We offer timely and clean removal of your waste oil with our clean process. We provide a clean container with a sealed lid. When the container is full we provide an identical empty container and remove the waste oil. The Removal process takes about thirty seconds and we pick up around your busy operating hours so as to not disturb your patrons.

We also provide the peace of mind that your waste product is now weakening the demand on foreign oil and mother nature.

I have tried a multitude of pumps and cranes with barrel clamps. They all work to a certain degree and risk factor. I've decided to go the route of the Tommy Gate.

Immediately I consulted Craigslist, and the Tommy Gate website. Later Precision Lift Gate in Milwaukee Oregon proved to be very helpful as well.

Be aware of buying used gates. If it was pulled off a truck it may have some issues. I venture a couple hours North to Snoqualmie WA, and found 3 year old gate that was pulled from a Les Schwab tire truck that had rolled. The gate was rusty and a little beat up from the de-icer used on the pass. The gate was also a g2 which is the top of the line model with some extra features. I picked it up for a decent price, and now I am painting it so it's presentable on the truck.

Torn apart and being prepped for paint

Brackets specific to my truck ordered through Precision Lift Gate

They also hooked me up with 25' of gauge 2 wire and a resettable 150 amp circuit breaker.

More pictures to follow with progress.

I'm able to use the truck to make extra money while I still tweak and maintain several different systems.

Yesterday the opportunity to score a 1050 Gallon conical tank presented itself. The catch was I had to drive 6 hours to Klamath Falls during a nasty winter storm on a stretch of road that had claimed 9 lives in the previous 36 hours. I didn't find out about the fatalities until I was already down there.

Upon arrival Rick the property owner, but not the tank owner had forgotten our scheduled appointment. The old cuss said "it's to late in the day and I'm sick and don't want to get cold. If you're here tomorrow I will get the front end loader out and load it on your trailer." Then Rick took off.

Pressed with the threat of spending a night in K falls I got inventive.

Simple task: Get the tank on the trailer

Step one: Disconnect the trailer and get ratcheting tie down crazy

Trailer wheelie and chalk wheels

Loaded and the cows are happy to see it gone

Glad it worked out.

MOO ve that tank

Quick stop for treats before making the six hour jaunt back home.
Note to self time for fender flares and mudflaps

Trying to add to the stockpile of oil. The stock transmission finally provided the opportunity for an upgrade. I serviced the transmission with new fluid, filter, and a band adjustments. A couple of thousand miles later it started slipping badly.

Talked with two shops and they both said it wasn't due to my adjustment. The shop manual states to "adjust the bands every 2 years or 24,000 miles. Both shops state that they check but almost never adjust the bands.

Transmedic in Gresham Oregon was refered to me by many friends Kaar (Cory) the owner has built his reputation around automatic transmissions that will handle the torque from a modern turbo Diesel.

I will have Transmedic service the tranny after 15k miles and then every 24k after that. Truck just rolled over 180k on my biathlon trip to Soldier Hollow, IT.

So far so good I've been driving on it for three days.

Published with Blogger-droid v1.6.7

I also bought two standard tie rod ends and replaced all four tie rod ends on the truck. One of the bars was rebuilt with the Luke's Link kit, and the other bar was replaced with new tie rod ends.

The idea is to compare the quality and lifespan of both systems. With the Lukes link you will never need to get an alignment due to tie rod replacement as you can rebuild the end without adjustment.

The Luke's link kit cost a little less than new tie rod ends from the factory. Knecht's (local auto parts store) sells all four links for about $145.

If you need your truck to be running within a day of starting this project (which we all do), Then you should purchase the oem tie rod ends in case the old ball stud is badly worn. One of my ball studs was badly worn.

Luke's link installation is easier than installing OEM ends.

Installation notes:

1. Align the castle side of the castle nut flush with the end of the ball stud threads when you are using the hammer on the old end. Failure to do so could result in damaging the threads on the ball stud that you will need to reuse.

2. It's not necessary to place the old end in a vice when breaking the old ball stud out. You can place the flushed castle nut on a hard surface.

After the ends where all installed the vehicle went to the local Firestone where they have a lifetime alignment service. The vehicle travels and steers with marked improvement.

Luke's Link's are larger than OEM Tie rod ends because they are sleeved. One of the sleeves touches the frame barely when the steering wheel is cranked all the way to the passenger side. It doesn't seem to affect anything.

You can also use the luke's link to rebuild Dodge's troublesome "Track Bar".

I prefer the Orange Grease. I've pressure washed it many times, but there is a persistent layer of filth under there. Here are the steps to properly clean the truck:

First don the appropriate attire. Apparel that will keep you dry and resist the toxic filth. You can pick this up for $7.00 at Harbor Freight. The gloves are another $7.00. The Chemistry goggles where laying around.

Apply copious amounts of degreaser via a spray bottle.
Make sure you protect your face and watch for drips. The degreaser will pull the sludge and drip on your face chemically burning it.

Then apply Boraxo the all around cheap hand cleaner that is also great for cleaning greasy parts. This is the hand cleaner that was prevalent in schools and public bathrooms until the early 90's. I can't say enough about this wonderful cleaner.
Apply the boraxo with a nylon scrub brush or brillo pad bring the hose along to rinse your applicators as you go.

The pressure washing wand is long so it helps if the truck is elevated for better angles. An actual vehicle lift would be key. Drive the truck onto ramps and raise the back end and support it with jack-stands. Hook your pressure washer into your hot water for better cleaning.

Then monitor and identify where any leaks are coming from while enjoying a cleaner work enviornmnet.

The afe stage 1 cold air intake with torque tube is the best performance for the money and my needs. The performance gain was not as significant as the exhaust. There is a little more power but the larger difference is the distinct sounds. The deep whistle while the turbo is spooling is pretty cool. After it's pulling the full 19lbs of boost and you abruptly let off the accelerator you can here all of your boost being dumped, and that's enough to make you think something broke on your truck and grin when you realize it's just another cool sound.

You will have to glove the turbo when you power wash.

This is a skill that I do not possess. When putting the system together this author resorted to duck tape. It looked less than professional. 6" sewer pipe PVC worked perfectly with a Cimtek filter wrapped with 5/8" black heater hose.

Make the sewer pipe 7" tall and about an inch above the fender well. Secure it with two self tapping screws. Put your wrapped hose assembly through the top of the sewer pipe housing and attach it to your hose in hose.

.

Finished picture coming soon. This means that my vacuum pump is only running the CAD (Central Axle Disconnect)and the heater controls. When you shift into 4wd the CAD sucks a pin from one side to the other locking your front axle and illuminating your 4wd dash indicator. Vacuum systems are plagued with vacuum leaks. My 4wd is not operating correctly for the second time in as many years all of my vacuum lines are oily gross and loose.

Posi-lok provides a mechanical cable driven system that allows you to operate in 2wd low range should you choose to. This upgrade can be had from there sister company . The link shows the cast iron fork with new pads that I also picked up. Shipping from Michigan to Oregon was $15 bucks and It will be here in a week just before the snow hits. I shopped around for the best price at local shops and distributors. The price varies by $100 depending on where you go. The best price I found was at Truck Accessory Liquidators which is a owned by the guys that make Posi-Lok and the item has already shipped. I will update when it arrives and when I install.

Until then bless your hearts one and all.

Installed and working properly. It seems they could have used the stock electrical connectors or supplied the same quality unit. what you get is two screws and a but connectors. OEM sports a waterproof connection. When you drill the hole through your firewall Go a 3/8" to the left of their template.

I went skiing for the first time this season and the truck performed well in the snow. 4wd with the Posi-Lok engagement system worked well. Before it took the vacuum system a while to engage the Center Axle Disconnect. Now It's a seemless transition to 4wd. getting it out of 4wd is a little trickier but not much. I have to push the button and mess with the accelerator to get it back in, or back up slightly.

After a week of using the Posi-Lok it's working flawlessly. If you do this upgrade go a little left of center when drilling the hole through your firewall for the cable. I would go a 1/2" Left of Center as there is a body seem to the right. I went about a quarter of an inch and still grazed the support.

At first I blamed the battery as the guy testing it told me it was bad. Maybe the guy thought I was buying a new battery from him, but in the same breath he told me to take it back to where it came from because it's still under warranty. The local auto shop tested and called the battery good. My connections where clean but crumbling. I re-cleaned them and replaced some hardware. Tested the connections with an ammeter per the shop manual, and narrowed it down to the starter. Now it starts like a dream. The small elbow hose from the pre-heater/strainer to the lift pump was missing a hose clamp. There was a small fuel leak on top of the solenoid that disintegrated the insulation to the starter.

Now it's ready to get the remote start. The unit can be had on ebay for $150ish. It can be installed with warranty in about 4hrs for $405.
