I've been to Cafe 1771 a number of times already, loved their blend of good food and whimsical decor. So when The Food Club got an invite to try out Wine Bar, which holds court at Cafe 1771's 2nd floor. I was quite intrigued before thinking about what the curved flight of stairs near Side Bar led to and I would be quite surprised.

The newly put up Greenhills Town Center yields many nice places among them is Ha Yuan Signatures, a restaurant harkening back to our childhood. I have fond memories of going to Masangkay Street in Binondo to eat their some of their signature dishes like maki mi and lumpia. I have not actually eaten there in quite a long time and I'm really glad this branch is quite near, not necessitating the long travel time to Manila.

Aria Cucina Italiana Arrives in Manila

I vaguely recall eating at Aria Cucina Italiana during a previous trip to Boracay, sitting on cushioned chairs on the beach, and listening to the waves has a certain charm to it. I was excited to see how their brand of dining translates to the crowded dining scene in Manila. Their first foray here is located at the new Bonifacio High Street Central, home also to Jamaba Juice.

A couple of weeks ago, we took a trip to Hacienda de San Benito located in Lipa, Batangas to dine at their resident restaurant, Terrazas de Barako. I've always passed by Thai at Silk in Serendra but never got a chance to eat there. Good thing I got a chance to try the place out when they relaunched the restaurant as "Silk: Thai Cuisine". I found out that this was also a sister restaurant of My Thai in Greenbelt 5 and Thai-pan. Silk is just focused on serving more traditional Thai cuisine.

I was invited to attend an event dubbed "dining in the dark". It was very interesting so I attended. I arrived at the destination and was given a black eye mask and was led to a holding room. As the room filled up, we were instructed to put on our masks and then led to another room, with assistants leading us to avoid injuring ourselves.

Last December, I got a surprise delivery from Geicks, it was a Rodillas Caramel cake. I love caramel cake but a lot of times they are too sweet for my taste.

The initial impression I got was this might be one of those overly sweet ones, being covered in caramel and then to top it off, had chocolate shavings, but I kept my taste buds open.

Koko Buri in Pampanga

The club was looking for a new restaurant to try during our trip to Fontana last year when Abet suggested Koko Buri. It was a place he found while exploring Clark but was not yet able to try. Despite our big group, we decided to just go to Koko Buri without a reservation hoping for the best. The restaurant is a bit off the beaten track, located in a mostly office area behind the Jollibee on the main road. When we got there we had to wait a bit to get a table. Since, we were quite hungry already, we acquiesced when informed that our table would be in the non air conditioned area.

I've been a Crumpler Bag addict ever since I first discovered the brand during a visit to Singapore in December of 2002. Irene and I were walking around one of the malls there and chanced upon a bag store. There were lots of different brands available but I was immediately drawn to what I would later find out were Crumpler bags. It must have been the pretty colors that drew me to them. It took a few trips back to the store to finally decide on the purchase of my very first one, a red messenger bag (I forgot the quirky name already since I sold it years ago).

Little did I know what I would be in store for when I attended the launch for Tasting Australia at The Peninsula Manila's Old Manila restaurant. Everything looked normal except that I still have fond memories of the old Old Manila decor from eons past. Flower arrangements and decor that was made to look like the Australian flag adorned the tables. Taking a seat and settling down was when I chanced upon the menu announcing the dishes we were having.... crocodile for appetizer, kangaroo for the main course and lemon myrtle for dessert.
