Rewind: Yo! MTv Raps

Let me school you on a piece of MTV history. The network used to be ninety percent music videos and ten percent miscellaneous. And there used to be a show called Yo! MTV raps which was solely hip hop music. Call me bias but it was an era when hip hop had a message and every song sounded different. It wasn't all about money and booty. Okay it still was about cash and girls but they rapped about other stuff too. It wasn't until 1995 that the show was revamped and called Yo! which wasn't as good as the original. But I have some good news! MTV is airing a special called Yo! MTV Raps Classic Cuts which is a retrospect of the show with new interviews. They are hoping to turn it into a regular series again but in the mean time check out the Ed Lover dance.

TV's Most Annoying Characters

It was very difficult to narrow down a select few but I think these are some of the most annoying characters on TV.

Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. He is the ultimate know it all. How can you argue with a genius? You can't! Trying will result in frustration.

Susan Mayer from Desperate Housewives. I have one question for you. Why is she so clumsy? I don't think it's physically possible to fall on a daily basis. She should really get that checked out. And her next girl persona has to go because she's more like the grandma next door.

Betty Suarez from Ugly Betty. I admit I used to watch this show however Betty makes it difficult to watch. Thanks goodness for Amanda and Wilhelmina. Any girl who works in the fashion industry with a poncho needs to be fired.

The Situation from Jersey Shore. Yeah I know he's a real person but he has to be acting.

Urkel from Family Matters. His trademark quote "did I do that" got very old by the second season. The show was centered around him but why? And better yet why was America watching?

Peggy Hill from King of the Hill. She was always self righteous and always over confident which makes her the perfect combination of aggravation.

Screech from Saved by The Bell. I still don't understand why all the cool kids from Bay Side High hung out with Screech. It's not like that had a save the nerd program.

Janice from Friends. Her nasal high pitch voice could rival the Nanny. There was nothing likeable or entertaining about her.

Who Created the First TV?

Do you sometimes wonder how TV was invented? Sometimes I wonder why clouds have different shapes and why little animals are so cute. That's beside the point. A fellow by the name of John Logie Baird created the first TV set. It's absolutely nothing like our modern day TV. It sort of resembles a really bad flip book.

The EMI electronic system was superior to Baird and the BBC decided to back the EMI. Baird continued to invent but none of his inventions ever took off. Next time you're watching TV maybe you should thank Baird for creating the first TV. Thanks for reading!

RIP Whitney Houston

There is no arguing that Whitney Houston was the greatest voice on the face of this Earth. She rose to stardom with her grandeur voice and talent. However after the 90s her stardom faded and she struggled with drugs and alcohol. She became the punch line of joke instead of moving us with her talent. I remember when I was a kid I used to sing along with her songs and successfully failing every time because who can sound better than Whitney. I hoped she would turn it around one day but it wasn't to happen. So now we're left with her music and movies. RIP Whitney Houston. God has welcomed you with open arms.

I Missed The Superbowl

Too bad so sad for me! I missed the entire superbowl but luckily for me I was able to watch Madonna perform. Yeah so I probably won't have bothered to watch the superbowl since I haven't kept up with the sport since Troy Aikman was a quarterback. But I have to do love those commercials. This is the only time you will ever read this from me. Sometimes commercials are more entertaining than football. Sorry football fans.

It was great to see Madonna strutting her fifty something body across the stage. Sadly her age is starting to show in her inability to properly vogue. Her dancers were outstanding and her lip-synching was on point. Her duet with Cee Lo was a pleasant surprise. I bet he used to sing in the church chore since he look very comfortable in front of a choir. For those of you who were watching M.I.A. did flip you off. I have one question. Why? Sure it was fun to do when you were a rebellious teenager but at the age of 36 it's time to put that finger away.

The Walking Dead Midseason Returns

Yes! Finally Sunday is the big night The Walking Dead returns. Have you been counting down to this day? Don't lie because I've been on countdown status since January. I'm so excited I could speak in tongues. Episode seven left us with so many unanswered questions.

1. How does Rick really feel about Laurie's infidelity? Rick didn’t look extremely shocked or upset with Laurie when she told him she shacked up with Shane. I wonder if karma will come back to get them by a zombie biting them in the a**.

2. Will Shane go crazy? He was starting to lose it before the show went on hiatus. That guy is a sheep in wolf's clothing. Well maybe at this point he's a wolf in wolf's clothing.

3. Who will lead the group Rick, Shane or Hershel? This is a tough question but my money is on Rick. Did you see the way he blasted Sophie in the head? Hey nobody stepped up to the plate.

4. Will there be a romance between Carol and Daryl? They had a few moments where it looked like they might lock lips. And with the death of zombie Sophie will this bring them closer or further apart.

5. Will they answer any of my questions? I hope there is some sort of closure before the end of season two.

The Exes: Season Finale

I've been intensely watch The Exes all season long. You probably haven't heard of it since it's on TV Land. You still don't know what I'm talking about. It's the network that has classic TV shows like The Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, and modern classics like The Nanny and Married with Children.

You know what I like about The Exes is it has that old school sitcom style. I guess you could call it nostalgia. I feel like I could eat a bowl of popcorn and curl up with a blanket and enjoy this show.

The infamous saying "taped in front of a live studio audience" is uttered at the beginning of every show. How cool is that? In case you’re a robot the audience's reaction to the actors will signal you when to laugh or cry. They couldn’t have made it any easier.

And of course the obvious plot line of misunderstanding, then an argument, then everybody works it out and the world is once again perfect. Yes I know typical and predictable but that's what I love about it. It's not a reality show or a trashy program. It's good old fashion entertainment.

The best thing about this show is it has actors from past sitcoms. Donald Fiasco from Scrubs, Kristen Johnson and Wayne Knight from 3rd Rock are three of the four main actors in The Exes. I'm secretly waiting for John Lithgow to storm in through the door in an overly dramatic manner. Wouldn't that be peachy?

If you haven't watched well too bad it's over this season. On the bright side I'm sure they'll run reruns day and night. Thanks for reading and catch you on my next post.

Call of the Wild

I am easily persuaded by people when it comes to TV. If you ever told me that I would be at least mildly interested in a guy who catches critters who wreak havoc on peoples home and property I would call you crazy. I mean don't they have a show like this already called Billy the Exterminator. Somehow I gravitated to this show, thanks to the hubs, and I actually like it. Turtleman, Ernie Brown Jr., is very charming in a Kentucky swamp swimming kinda way. The only thing that worries me is his sense of safety is lacking. For example, he caught a possibly venomous snake with his bare hands or the other time he caught two possum in the rafters while hanging by toes. I guess he doesn't think about that since he's too busy having a good time. And who can forget his memorable yell when he catches critters. Priceless!

Can Key and Peele Make You Laugh?

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are starring in a new sketch comedy…yay for comedies. You may remember them from Mad TV. I don't really remember them because all I can remember is Ms. Swan. I wonder what happened to her?

In Living Colors' Kim Wayans

If you ever watched In Living Color in the 90s, which will be returning to TV with a new cast, then you'll remember Kim Wayans. She got laughs by imitating Oprah and Tracy Chapman. Turns out this lady is strutting her acting chops in the movie Pariah. Who knew she could make us cry and think. I'll be looking out for this movie which was out on December 28th.

An Idiot Abroad: Season Premiere In Review

I wouldn't say this show is in my top ten list of best shows but it does have its moments. Every episode Karl is exposed to experiences that average people only dream of. Yes Karl is an idiot but he has a certain likeability that appeals to the audience. So what did Karl learn this week?

If Ricky Gervais tells you to bungee jump then do it because he is a mean mother who will make you pay for it later. Karl thought it was too scary to bungee jump the traditional semi-safe way so Ricky decided he should land dive. Land diving is jumping off a flimsy tower with vines tied to you feet. Half of your body will hit the ground. I'm serious. If you're lucky you'll land on your chest instead of your neck or head.

Stop complaining about flying too much. The more you complain about flying the more Ricky will send your butt on a plane to somewhere you don't want to be. Might I suggest some reading material for your next trip Karl.

Be prepared to wear boxers when attempting to wear a grass skirt. You will look like a fool with your white boy moves while you're trying to hide your junk. It's hard to watch but entertaining at the same time.

Taboo: Millionaire to Hobo

Ever wonder if a hobo is really a millionaire. In one episode of Taboo a millionaire willingly decides to live the life of a hobo once a year. So let's get this straight he's got money, material wealth, and a loving family. Why would he do this? Simply put he was betrayed by his wife and needed to escape. He fell in love with being "free" and not having to worry about responsibilities or his cheating ex-wife. If I were a millionaire I would buy my own train and ride the rails then be fully decked out with camping equipment to enjoy nature. Well that's just me I guess. I assume this guy likes to live on the edge and socialize with other homeless people. Crazy right? Okay I shouldn't say crazy but strange. Hell On Wheels Season Finale

The season finale of Hell on Wheels was my favorite episode hands down. The last episode also brought in 3.8 million viewers which isn't bad for cable. Every week the show began to form into something special. I am truly excited to see what is in store for the characters of Hell on Wheels.

In case you missed it this is what happened. Mr. Bohannon's back-story is revealed. His wife, Mary, was strangled, raped, and left for dead. This is the beginning of his journey of revenge. It doesn’t get into how his son died but hopefully next season that story will be told.

The most shocking twist of the season is when Mr. Bohannon is asking the Reverend for spiritual guidance while holding a decapitated head. Mr. Bohannon doesn't know about the head instead he thinks he is praying. In the Reverend's demented state of mind he tells Mr. Bohannon shot his enemy in the head and God can't help us. Imagine the mind trip Mr. Bohannon was going through when he heard that. With his mind set on killing Mr. Bohannon kills the man he believes killed his wife but actually he kills the wrong man. Talk about a serious mistake.

So how do you get revenge on the Swede? Answer tar and feather him. No I'm serious that's what the town does to the Swede. Crazy right? But he had it coming. And the other side story is Elam backing out of a marriage proposal to a whore. She is tired of the pleasure business and wants to settle down. In her anger she gets friendly with the man who tried to hang Elam a few episodes back. That would piss any man off.

And are you on pins and needles trying to figure out which suitor Ms. Bell will end up hooking up with. Mr. Bohannon or Mr. Durant both have a chance but will Mr. Bohannon stay or flee. Am I the only one who thinks Ms. Bell looks like the older sister of Julia Stiles.

Blossom's Six, Jenna Von Oy

Last month I did a post about Blossom. You remember that little show right? Well I did a little digging and I found out what Jenna Von Oy has been up to all these years. On October 10, 2010 he married Brad Bratcher. They met at a bar and hit it off and were engaged on New Year Eve. In September 2007 she released her debut album Breathing Room and continues to sing, write, and record in Nashville. She kept her acting career going with UPN's The Parkers and a few movies including Dying To Belong and She Cried No. But the juiciest thing I found was a sexily clad photo of her. Rumor has it that she was a stripper however that's not a proven fact. So this is what she used to look like.

Is Technology Changing Your Eyes?

Does the new technology of TVs, Smartphone’s, iPads and tablets affect your eyes and your health?

If your day starts like mine, with checking the time on your Smartphone and scanning emails there before having that first cup of coffee while warming up the laptop, you may notice a change in vision. CVS (computer vision syndrome) includes dry eyes, headaches, burning eyes, sensitivity to light and even pains in the neck. I can vouch for the pain in the neck when I was working on our first website and spending 12-14 hour days on weekends and nights after being on a computer at my day job.

Some people struggle to read computer monitors because the characters and images are not clear or the screen is obscured by glare or reflections and may cause CVS. Anytime you spend 2 or more hours in front a TV or computer screen without a break it can cause CVS to begin. Many people will not blink as often in front of a computer screen, this will lead to the dry eye syndrome. So remember, blink once in a while in front of that computer!

Many eye care practitioners who specialize in children's vision believe prolonged computer use among children puts them at risk for progressive myopia. Myopia is nearsightedness - a vision condition, in which close objects are seen clearly, but objects farther away appear blurred. Heredity seems to play a significant role in the development of myopia in childhood, and some research suggests that eye strain and specifically computer eye strain, also may be involved.

To see clearly up close, the eye has to exert a focusing effort. Some researchers feel that fatigue caused by excessive focusing can lead to changes within the eye that cause myopia. And experts agree that focusing on images on a computer screen causes greater eye fatigue than reading normal print in a book or magazine.

To reduce the risk of focusing fatigue that can cause advancing nearsightedness among children who spend hours of time on a computer, many eye doctors recommend frequent breaks from computer work. Some call this the "20-20-10" rule: Every 20 minutes your child should take his eyes off the computer and look at an object at least 20 feet away for at least 10 seconds.

This simple exercise relaxes the focusing muscle inside the eye and may help reduce eye strain and eye fatigue that could cause progressive myopia. Some eye doctors also recommend special computer glasses to help relieve eye strain.

Sony and Nintendo both came out with warnings for parents of children who watch 3D especially on Play station and Nintendo - that parents of young children should consult their eye doctors before watching and using 3D gaming as their eyes are still developing probably the manufactures were afraid of being sued over it, but the American Optometric Association has stated that 3-D is safe and is an appropriate technology for all viewing audiences. Children who cannot watch 3D may be signaling an eye problem such as lazy eye and can be brought to the forefront sooner with parents noticing this with 3D viewing. Most eye care professionals agree that 3D viewing is safer for the eyes. 10% of TV’s are now being made with this new 3D technology.
