"Neutral Milk Hotel is an American indie rock band formed by singer, guitarist and songwriter Jeff Mangum in the late 1980s. The band is noted for its experimental sound, obscure lyrics and eclectic instrumentation.

The first release under the Neutral Milk Hotel moniker was the 1994 EP Everything Is, a short collection of tracks featuring Mangum. On the band's full-length debut album On Avery Island, which followed shortly thereafter, Mangum was joined by childhood friend and The Apples in Stereo frontman Robert Schneider, who contributed production and instrumentation. Upon the album's release, the full band was formed and extensive touring began.

Neutral Milk Hotel released In the Aeroplane Over the Sea in 1998, which became their best-known and most critically acclaimed album. Although the album did not meet commercial success at the time of release, it has gone on to sell over 300,000 copies and received critical acclaim from several publications, including Pitchfork Media, Magnet Magazine, Allmusic, and The Pazz & Jop poll. Despite growing popularity, the group disbanded in 1999 after Mangum became disenchanted with touring and the music press, later having a nervous breakdown

Neutral Milk Hotel is a part of The Elephant 6 Recording Company, based in Athens, Georgia. The band was one of Elephant 6's three first projects, alongside The Apples in Stereo and Olivia Tremor Control.

On April 29, 2013, the band announced a reunion tour for the fall of 2013 with their "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" lineup via their record label's website."

"Rachid Taha is an Algerian singer based in France. His music is influenced by many different styles such as rock, electronic, punk and raï.

Born in 1958 in Algeria, he moved with his parents to France when he was ten years old. In 1981, while living in Lyon, Taha met Mohammed and Mokhtar Amini and the three of them, along with Djamel Dif and Eric Vaquer, would soon form a band. In 1982, Taha was the lead vocalist for the rock group Carte de Sejour. He sang in both English and Arabic, inspired by the group The Clash. In 1986, Taha took a standard patriotic French song entitled Douce France which had originally been recorded by Charles Trenet in the 1940s, kept the lyrics but sang it with « furious irony » which irritated many French listeners to the point where Taha’s version was banned from French radio.

In 1989, Taha moved to Paris to launch his solo career with the release of Barbès in 1991.

Taha’s breakthrough album as a solo artist was his bestseller Diwân, featuring remakes of songs from Algerian and Arab traditions and including the famous single Ya Rayah.

Taha’s album Tékitoi, released in 2004, is one of his most creative and complex albums. The record brought acclaim and recognition from other rock musicians, including Mick Jones from The Clash.

Taha released his 8th solo album, Bonjour, in 2009."

"The Bomfunk MC's were a Finnish breakbeat hip hop group that was active between 1998 and 2005. The group's front man was the Finnish rapper B.O. Dubb (born Raymond Ebanks, and formerly known as "B.O.W."), and the main producer was Jaakko "JS16" Salovaara.

The band's debut release was the 1999 album In Stereo (Sony Music), which contained the singles "Freestyler", "Uprocking Beats", and "B-Boys & Flygirls", all of which were popular in Finland. "Uprocking Beats" reached the #1 position on the Finnish Dance charts.[1] In Stereo sold over 600,000 units.[2]

The album's success led to the release of "Freestyler" in Scandinavia and Germany; by 2000, "Freestyler" was popular throughout Europe, becoming the region's highest-selling single for that year. The single also reached the #1 position in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany, and was #2 in the United Kingdom. Wolfmother were an Australian hard rock band. Formed in 2000 by vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist and keyboardist Chris Ross, and drummer Myles Heskett, the band later became a four-piece and most recently a five-piece composed of Stockdale, Ian Peres (bass, keyboards), Elliott Hammond (keyboards, percussion), Vin Steele (rhythm guitar) and Hamish Rosser (drums). Wolfmother released their self-titled debut album in October 2005, which reached number three on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. The album was also a critical success, winning the 2005 J Award and the 2006 ARIA Awards for Best Breakthrough Album and Best Rock Album. Fairport Convention are an English folk rock and electric folk band. Formed in 1967, they are widely regarded as the most important group in the English folk rock movement.[1]
Their seminal album Liege & Lief, is considered to have launched the electric folk or English folk rock movement, which provided a distinctively English identity to rock music and helped awaken much wider interest in traditional music in general. The large number of personnel who have been part of the band are among the most highly regarded and influential musicians of their era and have gone on to participate in a large number of significant bands, or enjoyed important solo careers.
Since 1979, they have hosted the Cropredy Festival, which is the largest such annual event in England. Individually and collectively the members of Fairport Convention have received numerous awards recognizing their contribution to music and culture. As of 2013, they continue to record and tour.

"Tame Impala is the movement in Orion's nebula and the slime from a snail journeying across a footpath. To humans however, Tame Impala is more of a 'music ensemble', but its various other forms should not be disregarded (colour that humans can see is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum, the rest is just as important to other things!)

Tame Impala make psychedelic hypno-groove melodic rock music. It's intended for moving one's body to, and it's intended for keeping still and observing other forms of movement. It's bombastic but it's swirling, think of the shoulder bones of a giant striding feline creature through some kind of tunnel. If Tame Impala's music reminds you of what you'd want to put on when you next visit your mind's engine room then they're happy. If not, whatever, it's just music. Put it on when the sun next shines. Basically it's all about the feeling

Tame Impala are Kevin Parker, Dom Simper and Jay Watson. Kevin and Dom have been musical companions for a good 9 years, having met at music class in high school at age 13, sometime after Kevin had began honing his primitive self recording skills as a way of putting tune to his newly learned drum beats. They found Jay sometime last year in rural Western Australia and admired his groovebrain and corresponding wrist movement. By stroke of luck he was moving to Perth with another band and this allowed them to jam.

The Tame Impala sound is one equally informed by The Beatles as it is beat poetry, by Turkish prog as it is by Turkish delight, and by English folk as much as homeless folk, and it's a breathe of fresh air that reeks of all of these at times and none at others.

Anyway, the band still enjoy recording music at home and getting up on the roof when weather permits. With the songs-vat (the apparatus used for storing songs) showing weakness and beginning to split at the seams, it's lucky they have secured a recording deal. An EP of home recordings is due out sometime soon.

The EP is 5 tracks of untamed enthusiasm and unexpected delight. Beginning with Desire Be, Desire Go's endlessly looping, loose groove verses, to Slide Through My Fingers rollicking desert trip of a journey, Half Full Glass Of Wine's half-speed double-awesome riffing, 41 Mosquitoes Flying In Formation's unstoppable shake and Skeleton Tiger's marching band drums and haunting lead guitar, the Tame Impala EP is a beautiful snapshot into what lies within this beast."

"Before they perfected the electronica-meets-tango sound of the Gotan Project, Paris musicians Philippe Cohen Solal and Christoph H. Muellerworked together in the Boys from Brazil and Stereo Action Unlimited as early as 1996. Releasing their music on Solal's Ya Basta label, the two quickly caught the ears of Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, and other electronica tastemakers, while Coca-Cola picked a Boys from Brazil track for a European television commercial. Despite all the success, the duo wanted a project that had a more consistent mood. Feeling that both tango and dub had a subdued and melancholic sound, they decided to combine the genres. With the addition of Eduardo Makaroff in 1999, they formed the Gotan Project and released their first of four 10"s on Ya Basta in February 2000. The band had drummed up quite a buzz in the U.K. and European press, and soon XL Recordings snagged the group. Memory Tapes' first LP, Seek Magic was launched in September 2009, through labels Sincerely Yours, Acéphale and Some thing in Construction.
The CD release of "Seek Magic" came bundled having a 22-minute instrumental, "Treeship", which may be downloaded from his website without cost.
Hawk has also remixed many big name artists including a remix of a Michael Jackson song which was rejected by Jackson's label. Memory Tapes is often linked to the Chillwave music genre.
Hawk in addition has released tracks and EPs under the names Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes.
He is known of becoming a recluse and is hesitant of touring, due to an anxiety about airplanes.

What a strange cover you may ask.

That's the cover for Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over the Sea, an indie album released in

1998.

Since it's release it has been widely acclaimed as a love or hate album, mainly because of it's lyrical content and innovative use of unconventional instruments. The juxtaposition of these two factors creates a really unique album, and thus the love or hate relationship many people have with it.

Overall, it's still a pretty good listen and I higly recommend it.
