You may think Las Vegas is no place to spend a family holiday, but what you might not know is it has many things for families to do and see. There are museums, roller coasters and theme parks as well as the famous laser sky show in the old city of Las Vegas. You will find activities for the kids, free attractions and rides for all ages. The best thing about cheap holidays in Las Vegas is the Las Vegas power pass that allows you access to twenty popular attractions in Vegas that includes a tour of Hoover Dam.

At the Flamingo, you can visit the wildlife habitat. If there are little cubs at the time, you can even have your picture taken with the little ones climbing on you. This is something so exciting for everyone. The Imperial Palace has a huge collection of cars from all years, makes and models. You might also enjoy the motion rides at the Excalibur. These rides are spectacular and you feel like everything is so real. If you think that sound fun, the aquarium and fountain shows at Caesars Palace and Silverton are something for everyone to see.

The conservatory and fountain show at the Bellagio are extraordinary while the Stratosphere has that well-known roller coaster. If you visit the MGM Grand, you will see the lions and their cubs if they are around. These are all on the strip, if you venture off the strip, you can see seven different museums, Botanical Park, ice arena, chocolate factory and the rock-climbing center. You will also want to see the Richard Petty driving experience. That is a thrilling ride. If you need more adventures to keep you busy, venture outside of Las Vegas.

Not only is there Hoover Dam, but you might find yourself headed towards Death valley National Park or Bonnie Springs by Old Nevada. Grapevine Canyon is extraordinary to see by Laughlin and if the time is right, you might take the family to Las Vegas Ski resort for some snowboarding and skiing. On particular place that is a site to see is Lake Mead. Many people forget about all the things outside Las Vegas that are close by. Not all of your cheap holidays have to center around Las Vegas when you know where the other hot spots are located.

One might think that cheap holidays, Las Vegas and family vacations do not come in the same package, but they do. You can find packages that have hotel accommodations, airfare and some passes to the attractions in the area. If you plan your trip accordingly, you might even see some holiday spectaculars. Whether you are on the strip or off the strip, you are going to have fun. Explore a city that has more to offer than just the casinos and gambling. You will have a great time with the family and no one will believe you did not spend the entire time in the casinos, so take plenty of pictures to show what you found in Las Vegas.

About the Author

Are you planning a cheap holiday vacation this winter then please visit our cheap holidays comparison site based in the UK. Here's something to look forward to: between Turkey day and the New Year the average person will gain between 7 and 10 pounds. The good news is that you can avoid these additional pounds with a little know how. For most of us the holiday pounds start with Thanksgiving dinner. Did you know that the average person consumes around 3,500 calories on this day alone? Yikes. That equals one pound in extra calories - not to mention the leftovers you will be eating days afterward. Take these tips and make Thanksgiving a guilt free day this year:

Tip 1:Take 2 steps to start your day right.

Step One: Eat breakfast. You see, most people skip breakfast on Turkey day in order to 'save room' for the feast - maybe you have done this yourself. When you eat a healthy breakfast that is high in both fiber and protein two great things happen.

- Your metabolism is started early in the day, thus catapulting you into full fledged calorie burning mode. This will come in handy later in the day.

- You won't be famished when you sit down for dinner, so you will have less room to binge. (This means fewer calories land on your waist.)

Step Two: Exercise for 30-60 minutes. I know exercise is the last thing on your mind on a busy holiday, however it is worth your effort. You will negate some of the extra holiday calories and your metabolism will climb even higher.

Tip 2: Lighten the menu.

If you are the lucky one in control of the menu, that makes it easier. As chef you can make a few modifications to the meal that will drastically reduce the fat and calorie intake of each guest. Do the following to lighten your feast:

Use nonfat yogurt or sour cream in place of heavy cream-based dips and dressings.

- Replace traditional stuffing with an assortment of chopped vegetables. Fill your turkey with mushrooms, eggplant, onions and celery. Or replace half of your traditional stuffing with chopped vegetables.

- Flavor your mashed potatoes with roasted garlic instead of butter. Or serve baked sweet potatoes instead of butter laden mashed potatoes.

- Roast vegetables without oil - use cooking spray instead and toss them with dill.

- Use unsweetened apple sauce or pureed plums instead of butter or oil in dessert recipes.

- Put out an assortment of fruit for dessert instead of pies.

- Make the recipe for Low Fat Thanksgiving Green Bean Casserole below.

Tip 3: Use strategy.

Traditional Thanksgiving food items weren't all created equal - nutritionally that is. Roasted white turkey meat (without skin) is a great source of lean protein. Vegetable dishes (without added fats) are also very healthy. On the other hand, buttery mashed potatoes, white bread rolls, cream based dishes, and heavy gravy are all packed with fat and calories. Fill your stomach with the healthy items first - white turkey meat and plenty of vegetables. Then simply 'sample' the less healthy items in small portions. This is so easy to do, save you lots of extra calories, and you don't have to feel like you are denying yourself, either.

Tip 4: Pace yourself.

Most people get into trouble at Thanksgiving dinner by eating full speed ahead until they finally realize that they are full (after their second and third helping). The trouble with this method is the lag time in communication between your stomach and brain. In reality, you probably satisfied your hunger with your first plate of food, but your stomach takes a while to get that message to your brain. And during that lag time you took the opportunity to go for your second and third plate of food. This year sit calmly in your chair after that first plate and wait at least 20 minutes before getting seconds. You will be surprised to find that the thought of more food doesn't sound good anymore - and you will have saved yourself unnecessary weight gain.

Tip 5: Get Support to Keep Off the Weight

Want to make this holiday season extra special? Why not start your very own phone coaching program with a weight loss coach right now! Together you will keep the holiday pounds away. Hiring a coach is different than recruiting a friend to diet with, or asking your spouse to help. Truth be told, it's doubtful either one of these "supports" are going to hold up when put to the test. If your spouse is anything like mine, he's no help at all. I'd get, "It's a party, enjoy yourself!" Or, "It's Christmas, have what you want." And a diet buddy is probably no better. When it comes down to it, they aren't going to jeopardize your friendship over a diet failure.

Having a happy holiday season does not have to mean putting on excess weight. Using these simple, easy strategies can help you avoid being one of those people who end up 10 pounds heavier by New Year's. I hope these five tips keep you fit and healthy this holiday season.

About the Author

If you enjoyed this article, you'll really like getting the Fat Fighter newsletter bi-monthly. Just Because You're Screwed Up, Don't Blame Christmas

As we start to move into the holiday season we will start hearing about how stressful the holidays are. This all comes from our distorted belief that “stress” is somehow “out there” in the world and not a result of our thinking processes. Stress is a word that supposedly reflects a physiological state whereby certain hormones are kicked into the system affecting certain organs. Nowadays stress is this nebulous force out there in the world. We are “under stress” and “coping with stress” and dealing with “stressful jobs” and “stressful holidays.”

Stress isn’t out there. All that is out there are situations. They might be situations we like or don’t like, but whether we have stress happening in us depends on how we think about those situations.

Now I know you’ve heard this before. There are a lot of writers and speakers who sort of talk this talk – that we must be responsible for our lives etc. But when push comes to shove they still talk the talk of victims. “How did that make you feel?” is a favorite question of parents and counselors. It sounds like you're really encouraging the person to talk about his or her feelings. The only problem is that it implies that an event totally controlled your reaction and you are in essence a victim. Wrong.

"He drives me nuts." Same idea. Victim thinking.

I have worked with people in all types of tragic circumstances including people having their children murdered. Some people stay angry and hateful and bitter and they obviously can make a good case for that. Others however choose not to go in that direction. One person told me and a group I was talking to that it finally dawned on him after waking up every day for ten years and hating the person who killed his daughter that she deserved better than that from him. He said that she hadn't lived all those years just for him to hate someone.

Personal Power is about choices. If you don’t see the choices you don’t see the power.

If you are going crazy around the holidays, the odds are you are trying to meet some type of expectations either from others or from yourself. Don’t get me wrong. If you start defying those expectations you will get some flack. Count on it. However if you don’t make changes you will be a reflection of B.B. King’s song, “The Thrill Is Gone.”

I guarantee you though, that if you keep blaming the holidays or seeing the holidays as stressful you will be stuck until you die. However if you start to accept some responsibility for your inner life, you will begin to see that the way you think is triggering most of your stress response.

This is hard to change. People like to say, “Easier said than done.” Well, duh! It is easier said than done. But difficult is not impossible. It’s just difficult.

If you are tired of your holidays being a mess, make different choices. Making your own baking mixes and soup mixes is a simple way to give your friends and family a few new flavors to add to their meals.??The most important part of making your own baking mix is choosing the right recipes. You want to choose a recipe whose ingredients are primarily either dry or wet. Recipes with things like canned fruit, jam, canned tomatoes, meats, and other ingredients that your friends and family might not keep at hand, and that are impossible to pack and ship, are recipes to be avoided.??Baking Mixes?Baking mixes are simple and fun to assemble, not to mention pretty!?

Choose a container that you know will fit all the ingredients you need to use. I love using beautiful, antique canning jars.??Once you've chosen your container, look at your recipe. Write down all the dry ingredients in one list, and all the wet ingredients in a separate list. Ideally you should have just a few wet ingredients; eggs, milk, butter, vanilla, etc.??Using your list of dry ingredients, carefully measure and pour those ingredients into your container in layers, patting each layer smooth with your fingers. Once you're finished, cap the container, and your mix is done!??Be sure to include instructions for use that tell the recipient what they need to add to the dry ingredients (all the wet ingredients), how to prepare the mix, what to bake it in, at what temperature and how long. Decorate your container with a lovely satin ribbon, or a square of cloth screwed into the lid, and give a gift that will warm someone's heart and kitchen!??Soup Mixes?Soup mixes are a wonderful seasonal gift, and especially good as we enter the colder months. To make a soup mix, first choose your recipe. You want to choose a recipe without a lot of prep work (for example, a meatball soup like Italian Wedding Soup would not work well), and with a lot of dried ingredients. Bean soups and stews and soups with pasta work great.??Choose a container or bag, and begin pouring in the dry ingredients in layers. Be sure to pour the fine ingredients, like herbs or cornmeal, first, and the big ingredients, like beans or pasta, last.?This way, the layers will stay crisp; if you reverse the order, the fine ingredients sift down through the spaces in between the larger ingredients, and your layers get jumbled.??Again, be sure to include all the instructions the chef would need to complete the recipe, and finish your packaging with a pretty detail.??Holidays aren’t the only time of year to give the gift of baking and soup mixes. Making mixes is also a perfect way to create economical, personal wedding favors! Make a mix that is relevant to the location of the marriage, or make a mix of the groom's favorite food! Wedding guests will be surprised and pleased to be given a favor full of the flavors of the area! You can include your gift in the “welcome package” many families provide to out-of-town guests who traveled a significant distance for the wedding.

Baking and soup mixes make perfect wedding gift extras, too. While it is becoming more and more customary to give the bride and groom a gift of money, including an antique jar filled with the makings of a favorite soup or baked good instantly personalizes an otherwise appreciated, yet somewhat impersonal, gesture.

Fall brides about to move into their new homes and kitchens will love being able to turn to a baking or soup mix for those cozy, newlywed dinners once the temperatures start to drop. The meal may last just one evening, but the recipe can carry on forever.

This holiday season, break out your recipe box and select a few you can turn into mixes. Then unleash your creativity and put your heart into creating some wonderful gifts for the people you value in your life – family, friends, co-workers, etc. Your mixes are sure to be well-received; after all, there is nothing better than warm soup on a chilly night and who doesn’t love brownies!? Happy mixing!

About The Author
Kate Walling is founder of Secret Ingredients (http://www.TheSecretIngredients.com). Villas allow you to enjoy the quiet of the countryside and offer a relaxed alternative to busier cities and tourist areas. You can find rentals and book them online or through a travel agent.

Benefits of Holiday Villas in Tuscany

There are several benefits to renting a holiday home in Tuscany when you travel. Staying longer in a Tuscany villa allows you to experience more that the area has to offer. It gives you the opportunity to experience more of authentic life than a hotel can offer. You can visit the shops and buy groceries, while interacting with the people living in the area.

Staying in a holiday home in Tuscany is a more relaxing experience than the busy city for many people. Staying in a hotel is nice, but you need to go out for every meal. In a rented home, you can prepare your meals and relax on the porch or by the pool and really feel refreshed at the end of your vacation. This gives you the opportunity to try out some of the local recipes on your own.

A variety of large and small luxury villas in Tuscany are available for rent. A farm holiday is another way to enjoy the pleasures of the country. The larger the home, the more expensive the rent. The largest villas can cost $5000 per week or more. If you will be travelling with other couples or families, consider renting a large home together to share the cost.

The kitchen will be stocked with supplies for cooking and eating. Most will have dishes, flatware, cooking utensils, pots and pans. All you will need is the food you will prepare. Linens for the beds and towels are included as well. All you will need to bring from home is your clothing. A dictionary of Italian phrases is another good thing to pack, if you don’t speak the language at all.

Renting Holiday Villas in Tuscany

Tuscany vacation rentals can be found through travel agents, vacation rental agencies, and travel magazines or on the Internet. The internet is the easiest and most accessible place to find resources. Large websites have descriptions with pictures of the interior and exterior of rentals. Most agencies have websites with pictures.

You can read reviews online and find advice from people who have taken a trip to the region in the past. This will give you a better idea of the accommodations than you would get by just reading the descriptions. Reviews written by fellow travellers are particularly valuable if this will be your first trip to the region.

Many sites allow you to book your rental online. Keep in mind that many areas fill up quickly, particularly in the busy season. You should plan on booking your trip at least six months in advance. A year ahead is even better in the busy times. You will be required to make a deposit when you book your rental. Fifty percent down is common. You will either pay the balance when you arrive, or up to a month before your travel date, depending on the agency.

About The Author
Jerry Blackburn repeatedly writes reports on news relating to holiday and travel. Writing for publications such as http://www.tuscany-italy-guide.com/holiday-villas-in-tuscany.html ,the writer confirmed his expertise on subjects related to holiday villas in Tuscany.

Have A Remarkable Holiday That You And Your Kids Will Remember For A Lifetime

The school holidays are finally here and that means: quality time to spend with your kids. Relaxing time hopefully, at the beach or in the park.

How about camping where the evergreens reach for the skies, and where occasionally you can see a wild deer nibbling away on the sparse grass that grows in the few places where the sun touches the ground.

Listen to squirrels darting along branches they use for roads, as they clamber over the trees collecting their pine nuts and acorns. See the birds darting between the leaves, picking up insects as they go.

Watch dead leaves drift lazily downwards, in the soft breeze that somehow managers to filter through the seemingly impressive wall of huge brown tree trunks that surround your little tent and campfire.

At night, sit around the camp fire with the smell of roasted marshmallows drifting on the breeze to mingle with the freshest of fresh air.

Sleep in the darkness with little chirping sounds and wild rustling sounds all around you. Wondering what they are or more likely where they are as you curl up tightly in your sleeping bag.

What about something more exciting like clinging onto a yellow inflatable raft as you are tossed and drenched while the wild foaming river speeds you uncontrollable down the canyon.

In an instant you are under water surrounded by dancing bubbles and churning water. What happened screams through your mind as you look up into the sunlight through streams of water cascading over your face and see the raft right beside you. A big hand in front of a laughing face reaches out and grabs you.

You lie on your back in the bottom of the raft, breathing heavily, with water swirling all around you thanking your life jacket for saving your life.

The guide’s voice thunders over the deafening boom bouncing between the canyon walls. “Hang on we’re going in.” You sit up and hold tight to a safety rope as the raft swirls over a waterfall and half disappears into the foaming river. You brace yourself as the water rushes around your waist, and then the raft pops up again and races on its way.

What about something more relaxing like, your fishing rod jerks you awake as something enormous races away with the bait.

You grab the reel trying to stop it but it just whacks your fingers away. You slowly apply the brake as the boat rocks gently in the never-ending ocean.

The choppy waves slapping lazily against the hull as your line whips and dances through the peaceful sea.

You knuckles turn white as you grip the fishing rod handle. It buckles and twists and turns while the monster tries to escape.

Your rod nearly forms a perfect ‘n’ as you pull your rod up to draw the beast in, then as fast as a seabird diving into a school of fish, you drop the rod and wind up the slack, before the beast pulls away again. Now you have got him under control, he is yours. These are just a few of the many things to try while you are young enough to enjoy time with your kids.

Before long they will have grown up and run off to university or some other place. Until then, all the best and keep on playing and having fun.

copyright © Peter Legrove 2006, at www.animalsdinosaursandbugs.com

**You have permission to reprint this article. The spirit starts to drill into everyone around Halloween, working steadily through Thanksgiving, and climaxes with Christmas. It's this time that we care more for those heart-felt gifts, since we've been pretty busy to ourselves the rest of the year.

However, you do not need to break the bank for a warm gift to give someone, as many of us already know. There are always things in the realm of "cute" and "darling", that can give a wonderful impression to our family and friends.

Halloween can be an easy time to grab a smile from someone with a "Ghost Pop". All you need is a small lollipop with a wrapper, a sheet of tissue paper, and a small rubberband. (see where this is going? :)

Place the tissue paper over and around the lollipop, wrap the rubberband around the base several times, and then draw your "ghostly" face on the pop with a permanent maker. (Careful though, the marker's ink will spread quickly, just a few dots is usually good enough.) This is an easy, fun, very cheap craft for the holiday, and best of all, the receiver of this gift has a nice snack also!

Thanksgiving is a tough time to give due attention to a nice craft, since Christmas season is starting to wind-up in everyone's mind. Give it a little effort though, and you can have something to decorate your home with for many years to come. I think a good one is to take a small scrap sheet of treated wood, (wood that has been treated to withstand the elements of the outdoors. A piece about 2 to 3 feet is nice), draw a cartoon-like turkey on it, and then cut or have it cut around the border of your turkey. Then, "color" your turkey by painting it. With a small stake nailed to the back of it, you have a wonderful yard decoration for all to see! (Putting the date, and artist's name on the back could make it a nice "heirloom" also, if you use a good piece of wood that will last.)

Christmas is the time when stores are packed with shoppers, Stay at home one day and make a few gifts of your own. You may be surprised at what you can come up with! Take an old seasonal dish towel, the kind that have a decoration for the holiday, and an embroidery hoop. (The hoop can be purchased fairly cheap at places like Wal-mart.) Stretch the towel over the hoop and clamp it. Cut the edge of the towel off, and wa-la!, a thought-ful kitchen decoration for someone! If you get somewhere close to your goal, then you will probably decide that this is good enough “for now” and go do something else or you take on too much and end up just as stressed out as before you started.

In the end, it won’t help you all that much and you will easily fall back into your old routines.

Ultimately, you probably will be stuck in your terrible job, your social life will consist of one fight after the other with your spouse and your energy hits rock bottom. This can be very discouraging and you will know that it is not the way you want to live. You will eventually ask yourself, “There has to be a better way.”

Fortunately, there is an answer in the incredible power of meditation. If you want to begin this experience for yourself right now, try the following:

1. Set aside 10 to 15 minutes sometime before you go to bed; And find a quiet place with absolutely no distractions;

2. Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes; And empty your mind of all your daily concerns by visualizing That you put them in a box next to you and concentrate on your breathing;

3. Count yourself down from 5 to 1 And with every breath take all the positive energy in and with every breath out let go of all the negative energy. Take slow deep breaths and systematically relax each part of your body, starting with your head and ending with your feet;

4. As your muscles relax you will feel all of the stress flow out and be left with a completely relaxed sensation throughout your body. See yourself in a peaceful place like a park, the beach, the forest or the mountains. Wherever you’d like to be in this moment.

5. Whenever you like, count yourself up from 1 to 5.

That’s it.

If you do this on a daily basis you will notice that you feel well rested the next day.(Instead of having yet another sleepless night) You also will find that your mind opens up to new ideas to tackle your issues. Maybe you’ll get an inspiration for a new idea.

This is just the beginning and it doesn’t even scratch the surface of what you can accomplish with meditation!

Learning advanced techniques of meditation is quite easy to do if you have a great teacher and it doesn’t take long to master. Best of all, you only need to go through a few simple lessons to begin seeing a difference!

It will definitely change the way you interact with the world and give you the means to more effectively reach any goal you set and reduce your stresses before the holidays and throughout the year.

In “The Ultimate Guide to Unleash Your Inner Psychic! 7 Powerful & Easy to Understand Techniques to Achieve Your Goal of Heath, Career, Relationships, Finance and Love!” you will learn how to use meditation, Intuition and your Innate Psychic Powers to reach the goals you set through “Guided Meditation.”

By the way, everyone is born with psychic abilities, it just gets lost over the years…

You’ll also learn the 2 things you absolutely need to do for your meditation to work! The packed airplanes, the crowded airports, the high ticket prices: there’s nothing quite like traveling in December to make you long for January.. From waiting in a long security line, to having your luggage filled with the Christmas presents for your new in-laws delivered to Ohio as you land in Oklahoma, traveling over the holidays can be a real pain. Tis’ the season to go crazy.

However, holiday travel doesn’t have to be a nightmare. With a few tips and a little effort, things may go smoother than you thought possible. So, put your tray tables up and heed the following advice on traveling during December.

Be Nice to Airport Employees

As soon as you enter an airport, democratic values fly out the window; here, the airport employees have absolute power. It may be easy to get angry with them - you’re already running late and you don’t have time to wait - but keep in mind that they are doing the best they can: they want you up in the air and out of their hair as much as you do. Being nice and courteous to an airport employee or being rude and unfair could mean the difference between an upgrade or a cavity search.

Fly During Odd Hours

The holidays are the busiest time of the year for airports: everyone has somewhere to go. While there is no way around this fact, there is a way around the majority of the crowds: fly during non peak hours. Flying very early or very late may seen a bit inconvenient, as you could arrive at your destination in the middle of the night, but it will save you so much hustle and bustle that it might just be worth it. The tickets will probably be cheaper too.

Bring a Book or Ten

One of the things that is most stressed at the airport during the holidays is patience: there will definitely be waiting involved. While some people pass this time by tapping their fingers on escalator railings, glancing at their watches, and growing increasingly agitated, one of the best ways to practice patience is with a new book. You’ll still have to wait, but with something to engage you, you just might not mind as much.

Give Security a Break

Security lines at the airport can be frustrating. From taking off your shoes to bagging your liquids, it may seem as though the security lines are walking a fine line between safety and privacy. However, keep in mind that airport security was put in place for one reason alone: to save people’s lives. Saving lives trumps inconvenience, as it well should. So, give the security people a break and help them out by not wearing objects that will trigger the alarm, removing your coats and jackets, turning on your laptops, and wearing shoes that can be easily removed and placed back on.

Bribe Your Children

The only thing worse than traveling over the holidays is traveling with children over the holidays. When it comes to kids, patience is not a virtue. Because of this, children become easily agitated, upset over having to wait in lines or being stuck in an airport with nothing to do. In order to keep your kids happy - and keep them from driving you crazy - keep them entertained. For younger kids, something as simple as a coloring book may suffice, while the older kids may need a handheld video game or an IPOD to keep them appeased. When all else fails, remind your kids that Santa is particularly observant at the airport: it‘s in their best interest to behave.

Ship Your Presents

Many people have an aversion to shipping their holiday presents, afraid that the post office will send the wrong package to the wrong house. But, placing presents in luggage and checking your bags can also cause these gifts to travel to the wrong destination.. If the present is small enough that you can carry it on, then do so. But, for presents that are too big to be carried, ship them beforehand. Not only will you not have to make room in your suitcase for a present - asking the contents of your bag to “suck in“ as you attempt to zip it shut - but you also won’t have to deal with the gifts at the airport: you’ll have enough to deal with as it is.

Holiday travel is enough to make anyone think that they sky’s the limit when it comes to their temper. But, with a little planning and a little patience holiday travel doesn‘t have to be that stressful. Just relax, think ahead and remember that Santa knows when your sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, and he knows when you’re flipping off the man behind the registration desk at Delta.

About The Author
Jennifer Jordan is a senior editor for http://www.milleniumlimo.com. They believe there is no point in pursuing new opportunities during the holidays, and that nobody is making hiring decisions until January, so “why bother?” Many decide to do absolutely nothing from mid-November to the second or third week in January!

Making these kinds of assumptions about the holidays is, again, a huge mistake!

When it comes to the holidays, I suggest you become a "contrarian" – and do what all the other job seekers are not doing. Since most of them are taking an extended break, this opens up real opportunities for you!

The reality is that the holidays are an excellent time to develop and create new contacts for your job search or career transition. Many companies are completing their budget planning for the next fiscal year. This is often the best time to get in front of hiring managers to create a position for you next year. Many managers have to fill openings early in the year or they may lose the budget for that position. Also, once year-end bonuses are paid, a predictable percentage of employees will leave their jobs, creating new vacancies!

Here are 10 career-savvy tips for the holidays from Ford R. Myers, President of Career Potential, LLC, an executive career consulting firm based in Radnor, PA:

1. IT’S ALL ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS

Business is all about establishing relationships – and relationships are developed in social settings! During the holidays, most people are naturally more convivial and generous in spirit. There is simply no better time to solidify existing relationships and forge new ones!

2. TUNE IN TO THE NETWORK

There are many networking events in November and December – in your social life, in your community, and in your professional circles. Think of all the companies having holiday parties. Many charities have their last fundraisers of the tax year in November and December. Book sales, holiday fairs and other celebrations make this the best time of year for productive networking!

3. SMALL TALK REAPS BIG BENEFITS

Most professional associations have a holiday party for their December meeting, with a more informal atmosphere than the formal presentations held throughout the rest of the year. Do not bring a resume to these events. Create a simple, tasteful business card with your name, phone number and e-mail address. Be prepared to make interesting small talk to establish new contacts. Ask the people you meet about themselves, their work, and their interests. Remember, everyone’s favorite subject is “themselves!”

4. CONVERSATION STARTERS AND STOPPERS

Prior to a social or networking event, prepare at least three neutral questions you can ask, such as:

* How do you know the host, the company, etc.?
* What made you decide to come to this event?
* What other organizations in this industry do you belong to?

When you find it’s time to move on and talk with someone new, you’ll need some phrases to help you transition during the event. Here are some good “exit lines:”

* I’ll let you go now, so you can continue circulating around the room.
* I’ll stop monopolizing your time so you can meet some other folks.
* It was great speaking with you. I’ll follow up as we discussed.

5. VOLUNTEER

There are more volunteer opportunities around the holidays than at any other time of year. This is a good way to help other people, feel good when you need a boost, have a renewed sense of purpose during your search, and meet other professionals. Volunteering also gives you something interesting to discuss with the new people you meet!

6. CALL PEOPLE

Use the day after Thanksgiving to make both follow-up calls and cold calls. You’ll find that whoever is at work that day will not only be available for a conversation, but will be grateful to speak to someone! If there are people who you’ve been having a hard time reaching, be sure to take advantage of this unique opportunity.

7. SEND HOLIDAY CARDS

Pick a seasonal, nondenominational theme – usually a depiction of a winter scene is best. This is the time to send cards to everyone on your “career list,” including executive search firms, Human Resource professionals, and hiring managers with whom you have interacted over the past year. Don't write about your job search in the card. Send your cards early enough for people to remember to invite you to their holiday get-togethers, and to send you a card in return! Be sure to include your contact information with the card, so the recipient can also reach you.

8. ‘TIS BETTER TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE

Remember the old saying popular at this time of year, “Tis better to give than to receive.” This is certainly true when you’re attempting to connect with people during the holidays. The fastest and most effective strategy for getting help is “give to get.” Ask the people in your network if you can be of help to them in any way, or if there is anyone who they might like an introduction to. Become a real “connector,” and in turn, you will become “connected!”

9. PLUG IN AND TURN ON

Technology has come a long way. Use the holidays to connect and reconnect with people on business networking web sites, such as http://www.linkedin.com, http://www.ryze.com and http://www.ecademy.com. Connect with local businesspeople in cyberspace and then take your connection “live” with a face-to-face meeting. You can also use these web sites as a great system to follow-up and keep in touch!

10. BECOME AN OPPORTUNITY MAGNET

At holiday time, some jobseekers tend to become overly negative or cynical during what they perceive as a “lull” in their career transition. Don’t fall into this trap. Get into positive action precisely when others are “giving up” until early next year. Think and speak positively, and you’ll become a magnet – ready to attract, interview, and “hire” your next employer.

If you’re currently in career transition or looking to move-up at your organization, these strategies should give you a new perspective on the holidays! Instead of “taking a vacation” from your career development activities, take full advantage of this overlooked opportunity to make real progress in your quest. Then, you’ll really have something to celebrate!

_____________________________________

About The Author
Ford R.

Permission to Reprint: This article may be reprinted, provided it appears in its entirety with the following attribution: Copyright © 2006, Ford R.

But while there are many courses suiting all abilities, the Algarve is also perfect for non golfers, especially the eastern region around Tavira, with its stunning nature walks. At the other end of the scale, resorts such as Vilamoura and Vale do Lobo are mega destinations with all the golfing and sporting options you could want. Then, in Western Algarve, around the bustling holiday destination of Albufeira, you can holiday 24/7, combining championship golf with a hectic nightlife.

Western Algarve golf breaks

Besides bustling Albufeira, there is the charming old town of Lagos, set on one of the largest bays in the Algarve. Its 17th-century fort stands at the harbour entrance and a new marina with rows of excellent restaurants and bars draws the crowds. Alvor, an old port at the mouth of the Rio Alvor, has many traditional restaurants by the quay and a maze of cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses, shops and a few bars.

Golf holidaymakers should check out the renowned Pinta, one of the best courses in the Algarve, designed to retain natural valleys and undulations. Neighbouring Gramacho is also excellent and both courses are free of green fees for those lucky enough to be staying at the Pestana Hotels.

Central Algarve offers golf and more

Quinta do Lago is a premier golfing destination. Two of its four excellent 18-hole courses are listed among the Europe’s top 25 golf courses, and half of the 2000-acre resort comprises a residential and recreational estate, surrounded by pine forests. This beautiful area is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria Formosa nature reserve. Nearby is a large shopping centre with a health club, nightclubs and restaurants, and scenic countryside runs along miles of secluded beaches.

Just 20 minutes’ drive from Faro International Airport, Vilamoura is one of Europe’s largest sport and leisure complexes. There are five golf courses, championship tennis courts, an acclaimed riding school, and fishing and shooting facilities. The resort’s large marina has many fine restaurants, cafes and shops.

Vale do Lobo, Portugal’s biggest luxury golf and beach resort, also 20 minutes from the airport at Faro, is one of Europe’s finest. Its two golf courses, the Royal and Ocean, provide stunning views of the coast, and its 5 km-long sandy beach, with dramatic red sandstone cliffs, provides non-golfers with seriously good beach and swimming options. The resort also offers tennis courts, a gymnasium and health and beauty centre, as well as restaurants and shops.

Eastern Algarve; golf tours without the crowds

For a less frenetic golfing experience and a chance to enjoy nature, head east from Faro towards the Spanish border. There are many hotels not far from the airport, close to some well-designed courses. Tavira, at the mouth of the River Gilao, is a fishing port dating from Moorish times. Nearby you’ll find Reserva do Sapal, one of Portugal’s most important nature reserves. And just across the border, on the Costa de la Luz, are many more great golf courses.

About The Author

Rod Ritchie, a travel writer and editor, writes for many publishers including AA Publishing and Fodors. The holidays are here and then the start of a new year will be upon us. Now is a perfect time to reflect on your business and see if it is all that it can be. Is it running at full speed and do you have all the clients that you need?

If not, it’s time to get those engines moving and start into action before the New Year begins. I know, it’s the holidays and there’s a lot’s going on. But also it’s the perfect opportunity to connect with your clients and get a head start on potential work for next year. You will find that communication is so much easier when you can utilize holiday greetings, holiday goodies, and holiday presents. Holiday gifts and candy will ease the way to a “Hi, how have you been? Send me more business!” Or for those new potential clients, “Hi, how are you—You need ME.”

First, reconnect with ALL your clients and let them know how you appreciate them and perhaps how you can help them with other needs they may not even know you offer. Send a personalized holiday card or greeting. For local clients stop by their office and drop off presents, popcorn tins for the staff and/or their favorite coffee for their afternoon pick-me-up. For potential new clients, drop off a Holiday cup full of wrapped candy with your business card or perhaps get your business name printed on the candy bar. Also, consider sending a specialty cake, such as a coffee lover’s cake from Make a Diaper Cake Biz, http://www.makeadiapercake.biz. You can make your own or have Barb Ireland create one for you.

For all you Virtual Assistants or word processors out there, don’t forget to stop by any small post offices or UPS shops and offer to put your business cards there. Many of these places will add your business card holders directly to the counter. Think how much traffic is going through these places shipping out those presents and what great exposure that can be. And the best news is that they usually do allow business cards with a business card holder. Just think about it, people waiting impatiently in line, pick up your card and BINGO—New Client.

Other tips include:

 Read and research new things. So many great promotions are going on now with the holidays and New Year coming. Look to them and see what’s out there and how you can apply it to your business. Take advantage of the teleclasses and seminars that are offered by the pros. Yes, they are going to try and sell you something, but by golly the information you receive will be worth it and you don’t have to buy.

 Join Associations: Join the association that you’ve heard about by so many but haven’t made the commitment yet. Start the New Year with a firm commitment to attend at least one engagement a month or more. See what a difference it can make in your business by talking with pros in your industry or networking with businesses, who might utilize your services or products.

 Get moving online. Go to the message boards and chats and network. Meet people and introduce you and your business. Offer tips and suggestions and actively be a part of the forum. I’ve been in business since 1985 so this year I will be celebrating 21 years in business. I owe a lot of my success to being active on the boards and letting people get to know me and trust me. My message board is up and running and eager for more virtual assistants to stop by and learn how to become a virtual assistant. It’s at http://www.Publicity-VA.com.

 Your Website. Now it can all go to waste if they these potential clients get to your website and see a unprofessional, poorly built, error-ridden, mess of a site. Take a look at your website and see if it is the best that it can be. I constantly update mine at http://www.virtualwordpublishing.com to try and provide tips and suggestions for those starting a virtual assisting and also tips on publishing and, of course, our new books in our online bookstore. I know the importance of changing it frequently, so people will come back to see what’s new.

Look to the overall appearance, the professionalism of your wording, the explanations explaining the benefits you provide, etc. In fact, everything in your site needs to convince a client to work with you. Now ask yourself, does it do that? Is this something I can be proud of? Too often we throw together a website, just to have it done. Remember this can often be a client’s first impression of you. Is it selling you well?

So this year as others are shopping and preparing for the holidays, you can instead be preparing your business for the New Year. What a gift that would be for YOU—to start your business off with a bang and lots of new clients you secured in your holiday marketing efforts.

November is a great time to reflect back on the year and plan for the next. Why not plan to make next year, your best one ever! Good Luck and Happy Marketing.

About The Author

Diana Ennen, Author of numerous books including Virtual Assistant - The Series: Become a Highly Successful, Sought After VA and New Accompanying Workbook; WordPerfect® OfficeReady® Virtual Assistant Solution Pack, (www.corel.com) and Words From Home: Start, Run and Profit from a Home-Based Word Processing Business. Then why commit to a diet plan without testing it first?

Think about it.

You test-drive a car to make sure you'll enjoy a smooth, comfortable ride. And most importantly, you want to know the car will take you to your destination.

If it doesn't, you won't buy that car. Or if you've been duped and got stuck with a "lemon," you'll trade the car for one that works.

Then why don't we hold our diet plans to the same standards?

We've been so conditioned to suffer when we lose weight that we've come to expect - and accept - a bumpy ride in the form of hunger, deprivation and unappetizing food.

And how many times has your diet plan or weight loss program failed to get you to your destination, otherwise known as your target weight?

You deserve to know if your weight loss program will work in any situation at any time of the year.

So take your diet plan for a test drive. And if it doesn't work, don't make excuses for it… don't beat yourself up like it's your fault… just dump it.

The hardest tests for any diet plan happen during the holidays because they're a source of endless temptation.

Many of these holiday tests occur in social situations. Which makes sense because other people often put intense pressure on us to cheat on our diets.

So unless you intend to become a hermit or a martyr, make sure your diet plan gives you a smooth, comfortable ride past these 7 holiday tests:

1. Holiday Dinners.

The biggest one in the U.S. is Thanksgiving. But each holiday presents its own eating challenges.

Are you going to miss all the pleasures of holiday dinners - including the social aspects of sharing traditional foods - just because you need to lose weight?

There will always be special occasions like holiday dinners, birthdays and weddings that won't fit into a stringent diet.

So choose a weight loss program that can handle these special occasions realistically and let you enjoy life.

2. The Big Game.

In the U.S., it's the Super Bowl.

But there are many sporting events throughout the year where food plays a big role. Are you really going to nibble celery and carrot sticks when everyone else is enjoying pizza and beer?

Or will you simply skip any event that threatens your weight loss success?

That's no way to live.

You don't have to eat everything in sight. But you should find a diet plan that will let you socialize at sporting events without feeling like an outcast.

3. Holiday Parties.

One of the biggest social tests for any diet plan is a holiday party. But parties can occur throughout the year.

Whether it's with a group of friends or professional colleagues, there's a lot of pressure to join in the fun - and that includes eating and drinking.

Make sure your diet plan provides effective strategies for dealing with drinks and party snacks.

4. Restaurants and Dining Out.

This test can happen throughout the year, but never more intensely than during the holiday season.

Can your weight loss program handle it or will it be a diet killer?

5. The Office.

Your office can cause any number of diet disasters.

Candy jars, morning doughnut surprises, birthday parties, retirement parties, client lunches, client dinners, and of course, holiday office parties.

With candy jars, you can graciously decline to snack. It's just a matter of willpower.

But with client dinners and holiday office parties, you'd better show up or it could cost you your job. So if you want to lose weight, you have to be able to work these situations into your diet plan.

More eating temptations occur at the office during the holidays than at any other time. So if your diet plan works then, you should be safe throughout the year.

6. Holiday Desserts.

Sweet temptations abound over the holidays - whether you're at social gatherings or home alone trying to resist leftover desserts. Can you work these sweets into your diet from time to time?

If you can, you should be able to successfully handle any cravings for sweets during the rest of the year.

7. No Time To Exercise.

Even though exercise is good for your health, exercise programs often become the first casualty of the busy holiday season.

But problems with exercise can occur at any time during the year. Suppose you're injured in an accident. Or work or family problems take up so much time, you can't exercise.

It's best to choose a diet plan that will work with or without regular exercise. The weight loss benefits of exercise should be a bonus, not a necessity.

*****

These are the 7 hardest holiday tests. But there's another reason to make sure your diet plan will survive the holidays: they come around every year.

You don't want to reach your target weight during the off-season only to regain your extra pounds over the holidays.

So test-drive your diet plan this holiday season.

If you can enjoy a smooth, comfortable ride and reach your destination (or at least come closer to it), then you can be reasonably confident that your weight loss program will work throughout the year.

Important Disclaimer: This information is presented for educational purposes only.

It's easy to get overwhelmed by trying to find that perfect gift for everyone. Yet the truest message at this time of year is to thank, thank, thank. Isn't this at the heart of Christmas? Chanukah? And all the other holidays? So in that fashion, I would like to propose various ways of giving thanks to your loved ones, yourself and your life.

I just read about a man who has been playing Santa for years by anonymously giving gifts of cash to strangers who can use a lift in spirit. We don’t have to be so generous to strangers with our spare cash, but there are plenty of great and low- or no-cost ideas to give thanks.

Yes, I have a web site dedicated to helping people make great birthday celebrations, but it’s also devoted to ways of better celebrating life. Here are a few ways of giving thanks to those that celebrate a birthday this month, or to just anyone whose presence has made a difference in your life:

1. Send a card sharing all the qualities you appreciate in that person. Challenge yourself to come up with one trait for every year he or she has lived. This is one card that will not be relegated to the garbage can.

2. Write down a memory of this person that is meaningful to you - a way, perhaps, of how this person has influenced your life for the better, or of how she helped you when you most needed it. Add a favorite picture of both of you to the card.

3. Send an anonymous love letter to this person.

4. Copy the list of natural highs listed below, adding or highlighting one item that your friend has graced you with. Add a short explanation and forward it by snail or e-mail.

5. Choose at least one person from your holiday card mailing list to call up. Ideally, it should be someone who you haven’t talked to in a long, long time. Thank this person for being in your life by sharing something you treasure about him or her. You’ll give the gift of letting someone know she still matters in your life and you get the present of reconnecting with a long lost friend or family member.

6. Give the gift of quality time. Though I give thanks daily for my loved ones, that doesn’t necessarily translate on the day- to -day level to them feeling like a priority. Doesn’t it often seem that e-mail, shopping, work, cooking and a long list of other to do’s often take precedence over wonderful undisturbed time with those we most treasure? When my teenage son recently asked me what I wanted for a birthday gift, I answered “time to go out together, just the two of us.” He took me out to a local ice cream place and the sweetest taste of all was having the opportunity to hang out together and catch up on the little things in each other’s lives.

7. Do a favor. We all have certain errands or chores that we prefer not to do. We all have moments when we want to be forgiven for something. We all have times when we need some comfort. Have you considered making up a little booklet with coupons that state this can be redeemed for: not having to do a chore, being unconditionally forgiven, receiving a 5 minute foot massage, being listened to with no interruptions, one good cry on the shoulder, etc.? You’ll thank yourself for having been able to make a big or small difference to someone in that moment.

8. Surprise someone. Imagine giving to someone who would never expect a gift from you. Give thanks for all that you have in your life by spreading some of that abundance around. Bring a pot of soup over to someone you know who lives alone and would love some home made food and conversation. Write a letter thanking someone for special service or assistance they have given you. Give a really huge tip.

9. Give thanks for what has inspired you in your life by sharing the gift of inspiration with others. You can compile a collection of great articles that you’ve clipped from the paper, or unique quotes that you download from the internet, or share a piece of wisdom that’s worth knowing. (For a great book that compiles the wisdom of folks from ages 60s-90s, check out What’s Worth Knowing (http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FWhats-Worth-Knowing-Wendy-Lustbader%2Fdp%2F1585423726%2Fsr%3D1-2%2Fqid%3D1164624612%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks&tag=wbclub-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=wbclub-20&l=ur2&o=1).

10. Laugh and the world laughs with you. Humor is one of life’s greatest gifts, so share it with someone by sending a great joke, buying a funny book or seeing a comedy together.

Giving thanks and expressing gratitude are not just gifts you give to others. It’s also one of the best gifts you can give yourself. According to some of the most recent research, people who develop grateful mindsets, in addition to obviously feeling happier, also report fewer physical symptoms and more readily achieve goals set for themselves. So this holiday season, put “feeling thankful” at the very top of your list of resolutions.

About The Author

Tzippi Moss is an expert in the areas of imagery, expanding creativity, dream work, stress reduction, and goal setting. Unfortunately, many people gain weight during the Christmas and New Year holiday season. With all the festive feasts, decorative sweets, and parties, not to mention the regular heavier cooking that we do in cold weather, you may find that you are among those people who gain weight during this time of the year. You may even have the remnants of last year's festivities still hanging around your waist or tucked into your cheeks. If so, you are probably dreading this year's contributions even more.

Now, I know there are many articles out there that warn you about holiday weight gain and give crisp, clear instructions about avoiding even the most tempting treats. But, unless you have steel-plated willpower, I also know that, while you may cut back a little on your amounts, that you probably aren't willing to totally give up the party goodies and platefuls of your favorite holiday foods. Let's face it – you need another approach to holiday weight control that you are willing to live with.

Why not prepare for this year's holiday season by losing 10 or more pounds before the Christmas festivities begin? Now, before you panic - I'm not suggesting that you go on a starvation diet to accomplish that, but simply make some lifestyle and body chemistry changes that will rapidly result in weight loss, energy gain, and other physical improvements. Does that sound impossible? Let me assure you, based on results I have seen with my patients, not only is it totally possible, but it is relatively painless and amazingly simple.

I'm sure you realize that a healthy diet, proper exercise, and rest all contribute to your health and wellness, but if your body chemistry is out of balance, they may not contribute to your weight loss efforts. Thanks to a collaboration of anti-aging scientists and physicians, it is now possible for the masses to scientifically correct 5 major body chemistry issues in just 10 days, leading to the weight loss that I am recommending for your holiday relief. Here are your 5 body chemistry areas.

Blood sugar – Lower your blood sugar levels through careful attention to the glycemic index. Are you eating too many carbs? By watching your carbohydrate intake, you can lower your blood sugar levels, which will increase your energy, stabilize any mood swings, and trigger your body to release fat. As an added bonus, you will control or avoid type 2 diabetes with proper blood sugar control.

Body toxicity – Did you know that addressing colon and liver toxicity issues will make a huge difference in your health? Did you know that an average person carries around 7-25 pounds of fecal matter internally? If you lower your body toxicity levels, you can reduce gas, bloating, bad breath, and body odor. You will also non-surgically flatten your tummy, while correcting constipation and/or diarrhea issues.

Control of parasites, candida albicans, and intestinal funguses – Another vital issue you need to address in taking control of your health and weight is the control of parasites, candida albicans, and intestinal funguses. If you have any of these problems, you may suffer from water retention, sugar cravings, mood swings, poor sleep, and allergies. If you have ever taken antibiotics, then chances are you have an intestinal flora or candida albicans issue. Even if you don't take antibiotics, you can ingest antibiotics through meat and dairy products.

Chemistry issue of acid/alkalinity – You will want to check the acid/alkalinity of your body's pH. If you are too acidic, then you will be a "vapor weight gainer," putting on weight rapidly for no apparent reason. You will also be tired and allergy and illness prone, and it has been proven that people who are too acidic are the ones who get cancer. Being alkaline helps you have more natural vitality and will help you maintain good weight management effortlessly.

Turn up the burn on fat – You can do this while enhancing metabolism by natural means and controlling appetite. One way to enhance metabolism is to eat regularly scheduled meals every day. Skipping meals slows down metabolism as the body goes into storage mode, thinking it is not going to receive food so it begins to conserve.

Of course, you will want to remember to practice proper deep breathing so that your cells have enough oxygen to function efficiently and to the best of their abilities. I also want to remind you that all your body systems, from the smallest cell to the largest organ (the skin), cannot function properly without proper amounts of water. Your personal water formula is 2 quarts of water (plus another 8 oz for every 25 pounds you need to lose) per day.

If you will make the simple lifestyle changes that can affect these body chemistry balances in your body, I can assure you that you will not only reach your goal before the holidays begin, but you will find them amazingly helpful during and after the season has passed as well. Remember, these are lifestyle changes that I am suggesting. They are yours for keeps. May you enjoy a slimmer and happier holiday season and many more to come.

About The Author

Eileen Silva, Ph.D., N.D. is a metabolic health balancing expert, talk show guest, and lecturer. No matter what your life situation is, or how the past holiday seasons were, you can have a wonderful Christmas.

As a Marriage, Family and Child Therapist, I have helped many people transform their holiday blues to joy. The clients had many painful childhood memories of Christmas. It reminded them of adults fighting about the presents to give, the tree decorations, the meals to serve, and whom to invite for the holidays. The men and women recalled being given no gifts, or feeling disappointed of the presents they did receive. For some clients the holidays intensified their loneliness and loss of what they once did have, because they were divorced or some family members or friends were no longer close or were deceased.

There were also numerous cases of people suffering from post-holiday depression. Their unrealistic expectations set them up for devastating disappointments. They had hoped that they would finally feel loved, accepted and appreciated by their family members when they went home for the holidays. Instead, they experienced the familiar, painful feelings of separation and criticisms.

To assist the clients, I developed a process I call HART, which stands for Holistic And Rapid Transformation. This is one of the HART exercises I used to help these men and women welcome the holiday season and continue to feel good after all the celebrations.

Imagine that your loved ones are in front of you, whether or not they are presently alive, and say the following words:

"I forgive you for all the things you did and said that did not feel good to me. I now understand that you were in a lot of pain and you did the best that you could at the time. If you were capable of doing things differently, you would have. I accept that you are basically a loving, kind being, you never meant to hurt me, and you didn't always know how to express your caring. I realize that no matter what you said or did, I am okay."

"I forgive myself for all the times I did not act in a loving way because of my pain. I am learning from my mistakes and letting go of the past. I am beginning to believe that I deserve to feel good and to be loved. I am beginning to accept that I am lovable, good enough, worthy, important, attractive, and intelligent. I now realize that I have the power to create my happiness by giving from my heart unconditionally to others and by allowing others to give to me. I understand that my positive thoughts, words and actions are magnetic and draw to me the same."

"I choose to make this holiday and post-holiday season the first of many wonderful, loving experiences and a model for my daily year round way of living from my heart. I now associate the true spirit of Christmas with love and peace, and I am grateful for the holidays that remind me of the most important things in life. My focus each day is not on what I have accomplished but how much I have expressed caring to others and myself. I am grateful for all the opportunities I have to give to others, and for all that I receive. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!"

Once you are in the spirit of Christmas, it helps to understand specifically what valuable gifts you can offer others. Even though each one of us is unique, our problems and needs are basically the same. We all want and need to feel okay, worthy, good enough, important, attractive, intelligent, and lovable no matter what our age, social status, color or religion. So give someone a precious present for the holidays (or any time) by telling them or showing them by your deeds or gift how wonderful they are and how much you appreciate them.

If your funds are low, you can still give the most valuable commodity, yourself. For example, make gift certificates offering to: give a back or foot rub, drive them someplace, do their food shopping, clean their windows, repair something, read them a book of their choice, help them problem solve, walk their dog, play a game they like, wash the dishes, cook dinner, paint a room, teach them something they want to learn, or listen to them for an hour. You can also give them something of yours that you think they will appreciate.

If you do not have a family to share with, give yourself a gift and send yourself a loving card expressing how much you appreciate you. You can also give gifts and/or volunteer your time to a service organization such as Big Sister/Big Brother, Salvation Army, or a Nursing Home, Hospital, or School. Open your heart to these people and feel the joy of giving to others. In the act of giving, you will receive a great deal. Focus on the spirit of the holidays, focus on love and you will feel great joy and inner peace which is your greatest contribution to world peace!

About The Author

©2006 Helene Rothschild, MS, MA, MFT, is a Marriage, Family Therapist, intuitive counselor, speaker, and author. And why should they? Traveling with children can be a joy and taking the family on holidays near and far can produce a lifetime of unforgettable memories.

It’s true, however, that enjoying a vacation with kids is a bit different than an all-adult excursion. That’s not necessarily a bad thing! Traveling with children requires a bit more thought and you may be slightly restricted as to your choice of destination. But all the other perks of introducing your children to different world cultures far outweigh the sacrifices you may need to make until they grow up and you can venture off on your own once again.

Finding the Best Fit for Your Family

Where you choose to take your family on holiday can depend on lots of factors including your preference of activities, like sightseeing, sporting/active pursuits, cultural opportunities, and so forth. Begin your search for a good holiday destination by considering the things you’d like to do while you’re away from home. These may be activities you enjoy on a regular basis or things you rarely get to do except when you’re on vacation. Are you:

• An adventurous family? If so, choose a destination where you can participate in fun and daring activities like trekking, climbing, diving, jet boating, and camping under the stars. (Provided the age of your children can support these activities.) You may be just the right family for an African safari or a trip to South America’s Andes Mountains. Closer to home, your family may be ideal for a camping trip through the National Parks or a whitewater rafting trip down the Colorado River.

• An artsy, cultural family? If so, select a vacation destination that can provide your fill of cultural activities. Big cities are always ideal, because you can usually find plenty of museums, theaters, concert venues, and such. Try one of the great cities of North America, like New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto, or Vancouver. Or, if you prefer, choose a wonderful, historic European city, like London, Rome, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Moscow, Barcelona, or Budapest. All have something a little different to offer.

• A fun-loving family? If so, you’ll want to travel to a destination where your family can play together from morning ‘til night. Maybe you enjoy amusement and water parks, taking in a local major league sporting event, playing volleyball on the beach, tobogganing through the snow, or taking part in fun and unique local festivals. There are a number of wonderful places for fun-seeking families to visit including resorts like Walt Disney World or the other Disney properties, the wacky beaches of Southern California, or even a quaint ski village in the Alps. The beauty of being a fun-loving family is that you can probably turn just about any vacation into a rollicking good time for all!

Age-Appropriate Holidays

The ages of your kids will help determine where you head for your next holiday. Teenagers can do just about anything….but will they? Be sure you allow your fickle teenager to be a part of the planning so that when you arrive at your destination, they’ll be looking forward to participating in the activities they’ve read about during the planning process. Be ready to compromise. Your teen’s first choice may not be yours, but perhaps you can find a destination that has a little something for both of you.

Traveling with elementary school-aged children can be a treat! Unlike their teen counterparts, they’re excited about everything, eager to learn, and willing to try new things. Kids from about age 7 to 12 are the easiest with whom to travel as they’ll make the most of their new adventures.

Trips with babies and toddlers can be challenging. There’s so much to plan before you depart and it often seems as if you need to carry the entire house with you on your trip. Remember, unless you’re going to a third-world country, you can buy diapers and other essentials when you reach your destination. Pack lightly and choose a simple destination, like a beach, where you can enjoy fun in the sun. All-inclusive resorts, found in places like the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico, often have special programs for toddlers and also offer certified in-room babysitting services so that parents can enjoy a dinner or evening alone.

Remember not to push your kids too far. Little ones have a limit. So do teenagers. When you’re tempted to do just one more museum or spend just a half-hour more in the sun, consult your kid. If they’ve already said they’re tired or hot or cold, call it a day. Your trip will run much more smoothly when your children are happy.

Food

While domestic travel rarely presents a problem when it comes to food – even for the pickiest of eaters – international destinations where the food is “foreign” can be a real challenge for parents traveling with children.

Even the well-traveled child has likes and dislikes and you can’t expect your child to go without a meal. That’s why it’s always best to bring along a few staples just in case. Peanut butter is always a good bet, as is cereal, especially the small boxes that fit easily in your suitcase. Crackers work well, too. Any of those foods can be eaten at any meal and their familiarity will provide comfort to a child who’s overwhelmed by the foreign-ness of the food on the table in front of them.

Also be sure that the food and water your child is consuming is safe. Kids are more prone than adults to intestinal disorders caused by impure water and other food-related concerns. There’s nothing worse than a sick kid in a foreign country!

Plan Well

Truly, good planning can be the difference between a good holiday and a disastrous one. When you’re traveling with adults, it’s okay to leave things to chance, like a hotel reservation or a train ticket. With a family, however, the more complete your plans, the better.

That doesn’t mean, of course, that you need to schedule every minute of every day. Kids are spontaneous and just when you think an activity or attraction might consume 15 minutes of your time, your children may love it and you may wind up spending an hour or two at that particular task. Go with the flow and let your children take the lead. Thanks to them, you may discover things you’d have never found on your own!

About The Author

David Beart is the owner of http://www.professorshouse.com .
