It is said that Bharata is the land of karma, situated on this Earth. After obtaining a human body and possessing discernment and other qualities, one attains the status of a twice-born (Dvija). Even in Bharata Varsha, the land of karma is extremely rare to find. Brahma Purana, 27.2

In Bharata Varsha, there is no other land that serves as the field of action (karma-kshetra). Brahman itself attains the land of karma, not in any other world. Adhyatma Ramayana, 6.4.51

Bharata is the name of that land (Varsha) located in the southern region, which serves as the field of action. There is no attainment of results, whether virtuous or sinful, elsewhere. Know that this is the primary place where everything is established. Devi Bhagavata, 8.7.34

In Jambu Island, Bharata Varsha is renowned as a sacred pilgrimage site. It is known as the land of karma because of its purity. The devas (celestial beings) worship and venerate it since it is a land abundant in merit and demerit. Therefore, it is glorified by them. Markandeya Purana, 57.62

Bharatavarsha, as the land of karma (action), was developed through the rigorous penance and chanting (japa) of numerous sages over several centuries. These highly intelligent and visionary individuals worked out a well-balanced and intricate system of cause and effect, encompassing both visible and invisible causes. They also devised a scheme of karmic compensation, wherein the consequences of good and evil actions were determined. The knowledge of how this scheme operates and how it can be applied is encapsulated in the Vedanga known as Astrology.

In this lesson, we have observed the following points:

(a) The Vedas are our cultural heritage, and Astrology is one of the Vedangas.

(b) The Avataras, divine incarnations, have manifested themselves to shape and guide human evolution, and they are also connected to our celestial bodies (planets).

Namaste everyone, in this article, I am going to talk about special conditions related to the seventh Lord. When analyzing a marriage chart, the seventh Lord is to be considered. It can be a normal planet i.e., without any special position which implies a regular result and a standard life like everyone else. In such cases, both you and your spouse come from similar backgrounds, and your marital life is like that of any other human being. You love and care for each other, occasionally having disagreements - this is what we can call a standard or good-looking marriage.

But, on the other hand, there are some special cases. The seventh Lord situated in a friendly Rashi is a normal condition. Similarly, the seventh Lord situated in an inimical Rashi is also a normal condition. When it comes to marriage, there can be special conditions. To analyze this, I will start from the worst condition first - if the seventh Lord is debilitated. The debilitation, exaltation, and own Rashi are called Sthana Bala (Positional Strength) of a planet.

Debilitation of the 7th Lord and Marriage

Debilitation of the 7th lord means that particular position for the planet in Neecha (inferior). This indicated an inferior position in front of the spouse. As a good sign, we can say that the spouse comes from a good family background. The spouse is more intellectual, more understanding, more mature, has a better financial background, better professional life, and all of that.

Now, you see, there are always two types of people: one will be very happy that their spouse is having a good professional life and will support them, while the other will think the opposite, wondering why their spouse is having a better professional life, earning more, and why they are not earning more. This is a competitive mindset, which may depend on their ascendant.

If the ascendant is influenced by a good planet, it may seem surprising, but in my experience, and that of many experienced astrologers, it is true that the opposite can occur i.e., the Ascendant influenced by good Planets are competitive towards their spouse. The truth is that if the ascendant is dominated by malefic planets such as the Sun, Mars, or Rahu, or if it is in a malefic sign, the person is likely to be humble and not jealous of their spouse.

Even in Venusian ascendants, people generally do not hate their spouse. However, when good planets such as Venus, Mercury, and Moon influence the ascendant, the person may become jealous of their spouse if they perceive that their spouse has a better life or earns more money than they do. This approach is negative, and the debilitation of the seventh lord, whether good or bad, depends on how the ascendant is disposed of. If the ascendant is well-disposed, the result will be positive, while if it is poorly disposed of, the result may be negative, as I have just explained. This is an important point to consider.

Secondarily, the inferior position compared to your spouse in the case of debilitation may not be literal, if you believe your spouse is more beautiful or attractive than you, this can create a feeling of inferiority. A competitive aspect, such as complexion, can contribute to this feeling.

It is said that happiness is curtailed by worry, and tension, in the case of debilitation. When the seventh Lord is debilitated, one may feel very worried and tense about their spouse. This can mean a few different things. Firstly, the spouse may be very beautiful or attractive and attract a lot of attention, which could make the person feel insecure. Secondly, the spouse may have health issues, which would also cause worry. So, in this scenario, the person would have reason to be worried about their spouse.

When the seventh Lord, which is debilitated, and the seventh house, which indicates marriage, are influenced by good planets, in that scenario, insecurity is creating worry. If the seventh house and seventh Lord are influenced by malefic while being debilitated, in that particular scenario, it is tension and anxiety related to the health and well-being of the spouse. This is generally what debilitation does.

In matters of debilitation, I always say that debilitation is divided by three. So, generally, in such cases, what happens is that this is not multiplied by three; it is divided by three. So, generally, when there is a proper affliction to the seventh house and its ruling planet, which is debilitated, the chances of more than one marriage increase. Of course, debilitation in itself is an affliction in that scenario.

The difference between exaltation and debilitation is that, in the case of exaltation, it is multiplied by three. You may enter into multiple relationships because you are unhappy with your spouse. In the case of debilitation, your spouse may be unhappy with you and may leave you, which could lead to an abrupt end of the marriage. Multiple relationships and more than one marriage are also indicated by the debilitated seventh Lord.

However, remember that these bad results will only occur when the previously mentioned results are not coming to pass. So, generally, if the seventh Lord is debilitated and the marital life is going well, then it is a sure-shot indication of more than one marriage happening.

However, in cases where the seventh Lord is debilitated, I have observed that the spouse and the native may lead entirely different lives. This also applies when a debilitated planet is conjoined with the seventh Lord or is situated in the seventh house. Therefore, a relationship that was supposed to be based on mutual sharing may become a situation where two people lead separate lives while living under the same roof. This is what I have observed. Some information about Rahu

There are two sorts of astrologers these days: those who feel that yogas such as Raja Yoga do not work and those who believe that they do but that their meanings have changed according to the Sthan, Kaal, and Patra rule of Vedic Astrology. Raja yoga does work and we simply need to assess them correctly.

Falit Vikas by Pandit Ramyatna Ojha

Many prominent Sanskrit scholars have provided numerous techniques for evaluating the results of any Raja Yoga based on the ideas of Parashara's astrological expositions. Scholars are presented with Pt. Ramyatna Ojha's "Phalit Vikas." Pt. Ojha Ji, a distinguished astrology scholar, was the first editor of the World Panchang to be published by Banaras Hindu University. The examination of his writings reveals that he had his own ability to think about astrology.

The writer of the book Falit Vikas says:

Pt. Jagannath Tripathi, a former Banaras Hindu University Ved professor, contacted me one day and said, "Today I received a bundle of Panchangs that were flowing while having a dip in the Ganges." Being the editor of Suryasiddhantiya Vishwapanchang, I had special faith in his experience. Although nowadays there are many differences in the Panchangs and differences of opinion are going on, but Ojhaji's tradition and his experience hold a special significance. Ojhaji had also lived in the company of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya Ji and his great grace were on him. Mahamana Ji was very pleased with the profound erudition of his astrology, such is the statement of the gurus.

In this book, he expresses his thoughts and ideas on all aspects of creating a horoscope. This book also includes instructions for creating traditional horoscopes for almost all of India's regions. As a result, if graduate astrologers travel from Kashi to any other state, the assertion should be valid. Aside from that, there is a collection of horoscopes of some famous persons. I believe that many events in their life must have occurred as predicted by Ojha ji's astrology. On this premise, the author, Shri Ojha Ji, has included the letters of those individuals in this book.

Aside from that, the author has presented the notion of Kundali making, prediction, Melapak, Ayurvichar, Dashvarga, Parijatadi Sangya, Rekhastak, Planetary force, Bhavabal, and Arishta based on his experience, which is extremely beneficial for today's students.

After extensively researching these factors, Shri Ojha Ji, an expert astrologer, has shared his knowledge in this book. He asserts firmly in this book that the planets formed by Surya Siddhanta have been discovered to be more suited in the fruit declaration. In relation to the fourth fifth house, if both the third house and the eleventh house or the sixth and the eleventh lord are related, then there is no luck.
With respect to the seventh house, if both the sixth house and the eleventh house are related, then there is no luck yoga.
In relation to the tenth lord and the fifth lord, if the third, sixth, and eleventh lord together make a relation, then there is no luck.
In relation to the ascendant and the ninth lord, if both the sixth and the eleventh lord are related, then there is no luck.
In relation to the fourth and ninth house, if the third house, sixth and eleventh house are related together, then there is no luck.
In relation to the seventh, ninth, third, sixth, and eleventh lord, Gunabhagya yoga remains.
In relation to the tenth and the ninth, even if there is a relation to Trishadayadheesh, two qualities remain auspicious.

There is a location relation if the two planets in which the connection is to be seen are in mutual signs, such as if the Sun and Mars are to witness the relationship, then the Sun in Aries and Mars in Leo, and if one is in the sign of one and aspects the other, it is known as "Sadharmya connection."

If there is a relation of Sun in the ascendant, then he should be doing royal work.
If the full moon is related to Venus, then he is an enjoyer and a scholar.
If there is a yoga of Mars, then he should know metallurgy and make a living by fire.
The yoga of Mercury should be of Sutras and business.
If there is a relation to Jupiter, then be a scholar and knowledgeable.
If there is a yoga of Venus, then you should be appointed in royal work and have a long life.
If there is Saturn, then make a living by famous deeds.
If there is Rahu then iron.
If Ketu is there, then be a good businessman.

These calculations are entirely consistent with fundamental Parashari principles as articulated by Sage Parashara in his BPHS (Brihat Parashara Hora Sastra) and as developed in Uddadayapradeep also known as Laghu Parashari.

As a result, it is apparent that the Lord of the Ascendant is usually auspicious and if the Ascendant Lord also becomes the owner of the 8th house it doesn't become inauspicious.

Results of Houses

The 2nd and 12th House: Laghu Parashari states that the 2nd and 12th houses are neither auspicious nor inauspicious. The location of their second Rashi will determine whether they are benefic or malefic, and their outcomes will be influenced by the planets with whom they are in conjunction; otherwise, they are neutral, and they both will be "Marak."

Trines: The lords of the trine are usually beneficial (5th and 9th lord). However, if the trine lords are also 8th lords, they will become defective and have certain faults (some maleficence will be inside the planet). However, if the trine lord is also the 8th lord and is located in the 5th house, he will not be malevolent. It will stay benefic if the trine lord is the 12th lord. If the trine lord is the second lord, he will become “Marak,” but the capacity to bestow luck will remain on the planet. If the trine lord also becomes the lord of a quadrant house, he will be known as the most beneficent "Raja Yoga Karaka."

Quadrant: If natural benefics are lords of quadrants, they will not remain benefic, and if natural malefics are lords of quadrants, they will not remain malefic (meaning they will become neutral), and their result must be decided based on the placement of their other sign, 7th lord will always be “Marak,” there is no doubt about it, and in order Jupiter, as 7th lord will be the most powerful “Marak,” followed by Venus.

Avasthas (States) of Planets

In Sanskrit, Avastha denotes situation, state, or attitude. In Vedic astrology, ways to determine the Avasthas (states) obtained by planets at any particular moment have emerged. Six types of Avasthas are mentioned by Parashara in his Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra.
Planets by virtue of their motion get into certain states called Avasthas which are ten in number. Each Avastha produces its own outcomes.

Some other Avasthas of Planets

The other types of (six) states caused by the planets are Lajjita, Garvita, Kshudita, Trushita, Mudita, and Kshobhita.
If a planet is linked with a node or with the Sun, Saturn, or Mars and is placed in the 5th house, it is in LajjitAvastha.
GarvitAvastha is the planet that is in exaltation or Moolatrikona.
If the planet is in an adversary's sign, conjunct an enemy, aspected by an enemy, or even in conjunction with Saturn, the Avastha is Kshudita.
The Avastha is termed Trushita when a planet is in a watery sign and is in aspect to a malefic but not a benefic.

Introduction to the life of Khana and Mihir

According to legend, the demon Maidanab was the monarch of the island of Lanka once upon a time, and Khana was his daughter. Over time, the enemy monsters of Maidanab utterly devastated Maidanab. Only their love for Khana keeps him alive. Noticing Khana's brilliant mind, they start teaching her astrology. Khana also grew in her knowledge of astrology over time.

Varah, an inhabitant of Chumbi village in Malabar and a skilled Astrologer of Maharaja Vikramaditya, had a son at this time, whom he called Mihir. Varah estimates Mihir's lifespan shortly after birth, but he makes a calculation error and discovers that Mihir's lifespan is just one year.

To avoid having to see Mihir's early demise, he places him in a copper pot and floats the vessel in the seawater. The copper vessel floated on the shores of Lanka Island by coincidence. While swimming in the sea with her demonic companions, Khana noticed the lovely infant in the copper pot and rescued him from the water. Khana instantly estimated the child's life span and discovered that it was one hundred years.

Khana returned home and handed over the infant to the demons. Mihir was also fostered and taught astrology by the demons. They married Khana to Mihir a few days later, believing Mihir to be a good match. Mihir was raised among the demons in this manner, and he, too, was blessed with amazing knowledge of astrology.

Mihir eventually discovered his birth history using astrological calculations. His yearning to see his country became stronger with time, and he informed Khana about it. As a result, after calculating the "Mahendrakshan"(The most auspicious time), Khana embarked on her journey with Mihir to her father-in law's residence.

It is not too late for this information to reach the chief monster. But he did not resist their voyage, calculating that since they had travelled during Mahendrakshan so they would be safe.

The chief of the monsters gave his slaves three books on Bhu-Tattva, Kha-Tattva, and Paataal-Tattva, instructing them to leave the books on the opposite side of the sea and ask Mihir a question. If he answers properly, give him all three books; if he does not answer right, do not give him the book of Paataal-tattva. When the servants arrived at the coast, they saw that a pregnant cow had arrived. The servant asked Mihir what will be colour of the calf.

Mihir counts as white, but the cow gives birth to a black calf. The servant then gave Mihir the two books and returned with the Paataal-Tattva. Mihir was very saddened by this incident and threw both the books into the sea. But Khana after counting said that Mihir's calculation is correct, the calf will be white.

After a while, the cow licked the body of the calf with its tongue and it was seen that the calf was really white. Khana then asked Mihir to fetch the two books from the water. Mihir picked up two books, but some of them were washed away and were not recovered.

Then they approached the Varaha and Mihir introduced himself, but the Varaha didn't believe them. He counted again and found Mihir's life to be one year.

Khana then said:

কিসের তিথি কিসের বার ।
জন্ম নক্ষত্র কর সার ।।
কি করাে, শ্বশুর মতিহীন ।
পলকে জীবন বারাে দিন ।।

Meaning: To calculate the lifespan of a child, the remaining amount of stars is calculated from the date and day and then the number of months or years obtained determines how many years the child will live. Varah recognised his error after seeing Khana's calculation and took Khana and Mihir home. Mihir quickly established a solid reputation as an astronomer in King Vikramaditya's state council. Meanwhile, King Vikramaditya once inquired of his sabha-pandit Varaha how many stars there are in the sky. Varaha turned to his daughter-in-law Khana for help because he couldn't answer the question. Khana accurately computed the number of stars in the sky.

King Vikramaditya was overjoyed to learn of Khana's calculation and sent Varaha to fetch Khana to the royal court. However, Varaha and Khana both objected to going to the Raj Sabha. Khana sliced her own tongue and committed suicide to get rid of it.

Note: This biography of Khana and Mihir seems inconsistent and unrealistic in many places. But since there is no biography in the right corner, there is no way but to believe this story.

মানসের কষ্ট সে দ্বিতীয়ে ।

বহু দোষ সপ্তে কহে অষ্টমেতে পীড়া দেহে

নবমতে করে অর্থ ক্ষয় ॥

সুখ্যাতি দশমে শনি প্রমাণেতে অনুমানি

নিগূঢ়ার্থ জ্যোতিষ বচন ।

একাদশে বহু ধন লাভ হয় শাস্ত্রে কন

দ্বাদশেতে অনর্থ ঘটন ॥ ৫৩

Meaning:

If Saturn is in the Birth Rashi, the wealth is destroyed,
if Saturn is in the second house, it gives sufferings.
if Saturn is in the third house, it will destroy the enemy and gives a gain of wealth,
in the fourth gives, the increase of the enemy,
in the fifth gives property and son,
in the sixth, gives accomplishment in every work,
in seventh, many faults,
in the eighth gives disease,
if in the ninth then gives the loss of money,
in tenth gives fame,
a lot of money in the eleventh,
if it is in the twelfth, misfortune happens.

Rahu Ketu in twelve houses

রাহু কেতু জনমস্থ হইলে ধন ক্ষয় ।

দ্বিতীয়ে প্রবাস বৃদ্ধি প্রমাণেতে কয় ॥

রাহু কেতু তৃতীয়ে থাকিলে নানা লাভ ।

চতুর্থেতে পীড়া যেন প্রমাণের ভাব ॥

মনঃপীড়া দাতা হন থাকিলে পঞ্চমে ।

যষ্ঠে মহাসুখ অগ্নি ভয় যে সপ্তমে ॥

অষ্টমে মরণ ভয় লজ্জা যে নবমে ।

সুখ্যাতির বৃদ্ধি হয় থাকিলে দশমে ॥

একাদশে থাকিলে হয় অশেষ সুখােদয় ।

দ্বাদশেতে অতিকষ্ট জ্যোতিষেতে কয় ॥ ৫৪

Meaning:

If Rahu Ketu is Birth Rashi, then there is a loss of wealth,
if in the second then there is emigration,
the third, many benefits,
the fourth is suffering,
the fifth is heartbreaking,
in the sixth great bliss,
in the seventh, fear of fire,
in the eighth, there is the fear of death,
there is Shame in the ninth,
the fame grows in the tenth,
there is enough happiness in the eleventh
if in the twelfth, you have to suffer a lot.

Determining the auspicious time for the journey

মঙ্গলের উষা বুধে পা ।

যথা ইচ্ছা তথা যা ॥৬

Meaning: The journey will be auspicious when Tuesday night is over and the journey starts from dawn on Wednesday.

দ্বাদশ অঙ্গুলী করিয়া কাঠি ।

সূর্যমণ্ডলে দিয়া দিঠি ৷৷

রবি কুড়ি সােমে মােল।

পঞ্চদশ মঙ্গলে ভাল ৷৷

বুধ এগার বৃহস্পতি বারাে।

শুক্র চৌদ্দ শনি তের ৷৷

হাঁটি জ্যেঠি পড়ে যবে।

অষ্টগুণ লভ্য হবে ৷৷ ৭

Meaning:

Take a stick equal to twelve fingers and place it in a place exposed to the sun's rays. After that, if you have to travel somewhere on Sunday, see if the shadow of that stick is equal to twenty fingers in length, if so, the journey will be admirable.
If you want to travel on Monday, check that the shadow length of the stick is equal to sixteen fingers.
Likewise, if the length of the shadow of the stick is equal, fifteen fingers on Tuesday, eleven fingers on Wednesday, twelve fingers on Thursday, and fourteen fingers on Friday and Saturday, the journey will be auspicious. If the journey is not interrupted by any sneeze or lizard sound, the journey will be successful and undoubtedly eightfold.

রবি গুরু মঙ্গলের উষা ।

আর সব ফাসফুসা ৷৷৮

Meaning: If you can travel on Sunday, Thursday and Tuesday morning, there is no need to look at the day.

ডাকয়ে পক্ষী না ছাড়ে বাসা।

উড়িয়ে বসে খাবে করি আশা ॥

ফিরে যায় নিজালয়ে না পায় দিশা।

খনা ডেকে বলে সেই সে উষা ॥

উঠে পড়ে খায় না।

তখনি কেন যায় না ॥ ৯

Meaning: At the end of the night, the time when the birds are chirping in their nests, and when the birds fly out of the nests in the hope of getting food and fall on the ground without being able to determine whether it is day or night, that time is known as the actual dawn. The journey is commendable at this time.

আপনার জন্ম নক্ষত্র মাস যত দিন ।

তিথি বার ঐক্য করে সাতে কর হীন ॥

একে শুভ দুইয়ে সুখ তিনে শত্ৰু ক্ষয়।

চতুর্থেতে কার্যসিদ্ধি পঞ্চমে সংশয় ॥

যষ্ঠে মৃত্যু শূন্য হলে পায় বহু সুখ ।

খনা বলে এ যাত্রায় কভু নাহি দুখ ॥ ১০

Meaning: If you want to travel anywhere, you need to sum up the number of your birth stars, the month in which you started your journey, and the sum of the date, day and Tithi of that particular month. Whatever the result of all this will be, you have to divide it by seven, if one is the remainder, then the journey will be auspicious. If two is left as a remainder the journey will be good. If three is remaining, then the enemy is destroyed and if four is remaining, then the work is accomplished. If five is left as remainder then, the journey is doubtful to be happy, and if six is left as the remainder then, there is death on that journey and if there is zero left, there is happiness in the journey.

Auspicious signs during the journey

শূন্য কলসী শুকনো না।

শুকনা ডালে ডাকে কা ॥

যদি দেখ মাকুন্দ ধােপা ।

এক পা না যেও বাপা ॥

খনা বলে এও ঠেলি ।

যদি সামনে না দেখ তেলি ॥ ১১

Meaning: While travelling somewhere if you see, empty jugs, dry boats, a man who does not have a beard, a washerman, teli (a particular type of people) and hear a crow's 'caw' then all these signs will be known as ominous indicators.

ভরা হতে শূন্য ভাল যদি ভরতে যায় ।

আগে হতে পিছে ভাল যদি ডাকে মায় ॥

মরা হতে জ্যান্ত ভাল যদি মরতে যায় ।

বাঁয়ে হতে উইনে ভাল যদি ফিরে চায় ॥

বাঁধা হতে খােলা ভাল মাথা তুলে চায়।

হাসা হতে কাদা ভাল যদি কাঁদে বাঁয় ॥ ১২

Meaning: It has been said before that it is bad to see an empty jug during the journey, but if a woman is seen going to fetch water with an empty Aquarius, it will not be bad to see an empty Aquarius.

If someone calls from behind during the journey, it is bad, but if your mother calls you then it is good, not bad. It is inauspicious to see a corpse during a journey, but when one is on a pilgrimage to the Ganges, there is no harm in seeing him.

The outcome is favourable if a fox is observed on the left while travelling. If the fox is travelling south and looks back, it is safe to continue travelling south.

If a cow is seen not tied up during the journey, it is unfortunate, but there is no harm if the cow looks up while travelling. According to the scriptures, hearing someone weep on the right side is evil, but hearing someone weep on the left side is good.

Spirituality- The journey to an uncharted route of new horizons

Every spiritual seeker is much like a solitary passenger on an uncharted route of the inner trip. A voyage that forces him to let go of old connections opens up new horizons, enables him to cross each milestone in spiritual development, and ultimately leads him to the knowledge of Reality.

However, the procedure has a cost. During this trip, the associations, guidance, support, care, and protection that the aspirant had in the outward world are lost, and at times aspirants may feel hopeless amid the undiscovered ocean of spiritual immensity.

This necessitates a methodical approach on spiritual stages, with which any spiritual seeker may determine where he or she is on the path inside.

Sadly, there is no thorough work on this topic. Master's words are largely on sadhana, with little allusions to its stages. Furthermore, many faiths and spiritual pathways have diverse types of sadhana, making it impossible to establish a uniform standard for spiritual advancement.

Sri Ramakrishna's teachings and experiences, however, may be utilised to build a paradigm for spiritual landmarks because he practised numerous religions and religious pathways.

This effort seeks to identify the spiritual growth criteria. Although spiritual growth cannot be totally objective, this work has given a clear notion of one's status of spiritual advancement.

Key Stages of Spiritual Advancement

Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

In the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, page 610-611, Sri Ramakrishna says:

There are two signs that you have such expertise. First, there is desire or love for God. You may explain or argue all you want, but if you don't feel any desire or love, it's pointless.
Second, the Kundalini is awakened. You have not acquired knowledge of God as long as the Kundalini stays sleeping.

On page 344 Sri Ramakrishna says:

First stage: The novice stage is when a spiritual seeker listens and studies about God.
Second stage: The second stage is that of the aspirant who is striving. He worships God, prays to him, meditates on him, and sings his praises.
Third Stage: The stage of the flawless soul is the third. He has beheld God, realised him in his own awareness directly and instantaneously.
God's grace is required to awaken the inner consciousness. A person enters samadhi as a result of this enlightenment. He frequently forgets the fact that he possesses a physical body.

On page 734 Sri Ramakrishna says:

The person abandons his attraction to "women and wealth" and refuses to engage in conversation unless it is about God. He is afflicted by worldly conversation. One recognises the all-pervading consciousness when one's inner consciousness awakens.

Gudhartha Dipika by Madhusudana Sarasvati

Madhusudana Sarasvati was an Advaita Vedanta philosopher who lived in India. He was a student of Visvesvara Sarasvati and Madhava Sarasvati, and his name is one of the most well-known in the history of the Dvaita-Advaita controversy. The Nyayamruta of Vyasatirtha sparked a scholarly dispute that lasted generations in the Advaita society. Madhusudan wrote Advaitasiddhi, a wave of rebuttal of the Dvaita school's Nyayamruta.

Advaitasiddhi, Madhusudana Sarasvati's most renowned book, served to build Vedanta on a logical foundation by rejecting all other schools' critiques. However, in his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita, he presented a philosophy of life that included Yoga, devotion, and the logical insight of Samkhya as well as various forms of spiritual growth. The development of devotion was given the utmost priority by Madhusudana.

Madhusudana's work, the Gudhartha Dipika (an Annotation Revealing the True Importance of the Gita), is undoubtedly his most significant literary endeavour. Even though there are other traditional interpretations of the Gita, this work is second only to Sri Shankaracharya's commentary in terms of competence, profundity, and uniqueness.

In Gudhartha Dipika, on stages of spirituality Madhusudana Sarasvati says:

First, perseverance in altruistic works; next, cleansing of the intellect; then, abandonment of all activities, guided by control of sense organs and other means; last, perseverance in devotion to the Divine, along with contemplation on Upanisadic words.
This leads to perseverance in the Experience of Reality, and the outcome is jivanmukti, which is attained by the termination of ignorance, which includes the three Gunas, and lasts till the completion of the Prarabdha Karma experience. After it, there is videha-mukti.
And my dedication to the greatest human goal, one attains absolute disassociation, as well as the virtuous disposition known as divine prosperity, while in the condition of jivanmukti.

Varieties of Religious Experience by William James

In his book Varieties of Religious Experience (p. 247), William James sums up the end result of spirituality objectively as follows:

" The qualities of the emotive experience, which I believe should be named the state of certainty instead of the faith-state to avoid vagueness, are simply stated, but their intensity is perhaps harder to understand... The fundamental one is the elimination of all concern, the conviction that all is well with one, in the end, the calmness, harmony, and readiness to be, even if the exterior conditions stay the same..."
"The second characteristic is the perception of previously unknown truths. The secrets of life become clear..... but unspoken in words... The third feature of the assurance state is the objective change that the world appears to be undergoing."
"Everything is enhanced by the appearance of freshness..."

The perspective of the World around changes

Coming out of the puzzles of worldliness and onto the path to liberation is a metaphor for the first step in the spiritual journey.

A person's perspective of himself and the world around him is how he identifies with the world. His convictions shift as he embarks on his spiritual journey. As a result, his perspective and identity with the world change dramatically. The following are the stages of these changes:

The shackles of the world begin to loosen

The profound identification of a non-spiritual person with the world makes him feel one with it. A sense of belonging, obligation and accountability is created by parents, spouses, siblings, relatives, friends, and coworkers. As a result, all of these factors drive a person to move in the world's loop.

On the other hand, a sincere seeker notices that things are starting to happen for him only to set him free from the monotonous existence. Marriage, children, and other forms of family life become unattractive to him, and even if he marries due to an unexpected turn of circumstances, he remains estranged from the relationship, and his partner becomes a spiritual ally.

The financial troubles of true seekers are managed by well-wishers, their yearning for luxuries subsides, and the trivialities of life cease to worry them. So these people are free from material obligations.

The world seems to be an endless pit

What had previously appeared to be a paradise for a spiritual seeker now looks to be a black chasm, and people whom he had previously believed to be his life's biggest foundation suddenly seem to be lethal adversaries (Sri Ramakrishna says it to be like a "Poisonous snake").

The places of pleasure and satisfaction seem dangerous traps, and previous attachments seem poisonous.

This state of mind in a beginner's mind has been defined in many ways by various spiritual masters. It may feel as if the entire world is on fire, or as if one's own body and mind are on fire. Some people experience oppressive suffocation, asphyxia, or a sense of drowning in the world's ocean.

With the narrative of the young legendary bird Homa, Sri Ramakrishna portrays this condition of mind. The mother lays her egg in the sky, and the egg hatches while it is still falling. Fearing destruction, the thriving bird emerges and flies high to seek its mother for safety.

The Homa bird is claimed to never stop flying, spending its entire existence unseen far well above ground and never landing.

Swami Vivekananda's life provides an illustration of this feeling:

Narendra: I went to my grandmother's house to study. As I attempted to read, I was overtaken with terror, as if learning were a terrifying experience. My heart was tumultuous inside of me. I sobbed uncontrollably: I'd never cried so hard in my life. I rushed away from my books. I ran through the streets. My shoes had slid off my feet and I had no idea where they had gone. I sprinted by a haystack and was covered in hay. I continued to sprint along the road to Cossipore. (936–Gospel)

Most spiritual seekers have a tangible sense of horror and fear about the world. Once a seeker has had this experience, the alluring tune of worldliness is irrevocably muted for him.

The world appears to be an extraterrestrial land

In rare situations, an aspirant may be required to live in the world to fulfil some responsibility. Such aspirants carry out their responsibilities with love and connect with others, yet they are also aware that they are alone in the world. They get the impression that they are visitors in a distant nation who must return to their true home as soon as possible.

When a seeker is drunk with divine love, he loses his feeling of belonging to the world, and all of his relationships with people dissolve. The sensation of belonging has now been replaced with a sense of global compassion.

Renunciation of the material is a sign of spiritual growth

One of the formal indications of that vast inner renunciation that leads to God is external renunciation. The world had been rejected by the majority of religious leaders, including Buddha and Christ.

People get dragged into family life like a vortex. The soothing murmur of children's simpering and the beautiful words of a devoted spouse masks the danger of the vortex. It becomes hard for a person to cut through the bonds he has created over the years, much like a silkworm stuck in its cocoon.

"He who has rejected the world has already made considerable progress," Sri Ramakrishna states (Gospel, p.372).

Anyone who has left their home in the name of God is undoubtedly a spiritually mature individual, even if they do not engage in many spiritual activities. He is like a free person who can do anything, but a person who is bound to the world is shackled. The latter can walk, although he stumbles frequently.

The desire for seclusion begins to grow

External or mental renunciation of the world is always accompanied by a wish to remain in isolation and to pursue one's goal sincerely.

However, it has been seen that some seekers throw up their previous associations to progress spiritually, but wind up forming new ties with strangers.

This binds them inextricably. A person advancing in spiritual life, on the other hand, abandons previous relationships and interacts with strangers very infrequently, i.e., he prefers to remain alone both externally and internally.

Pleasures of the senses become dull

A person may appreciate spiritual emotions, spiritual conversations, abstinence, and other spiritual practises on occasion, but his natural propensity is to revert to worldly pleasures. They resemble the housefly, which flies on flowers as well as rubbish.

A real spiritual person, on the other hand, is like a honeybee that only drinks nectar from flowers. Spiritually enlightened people abhor worldly pleasures to the point that they don't even entertain tempting objects near them, keeping in mind the fact that these things may lead to their destruction. If an aspirant is forced to listen to the worldly speech as he grows, he would experience a piercing ache.

A person who has experienced divine bliss has no desire to live a worldly existence. All yearning for marriage and children fade away in such people. Even angelic fairies beauty appears unattractive and repulsive to those who contemplate God's splendour.

According to Swamiji, a common man's primary source of delight and nourishment is closeness with animate and inanimate objects. According to him, the most difficult challenge for a spiritual seeker is closeness. He says that once the first turbulence of the sensations has passed, it gets easier to deal with them.

Odyssey- A Poem by Homer

This truth is brilliantly depicted in Homer's famed Greek classic Odyssey, which includes the tale of the Sirens' Island. The Island's inhabitants were half woman and half bird, but their voices were extraordinarily seductive. The sailors aboard passing ships were captivated by their melodies. Sailors, enchanted by the singing, would divert their ships towards the Island, floundering and capsizing on the dangerous cliffs that surrounded it. If there were any survivors, they were taken, prisoner.

Odysseus, a legendary warrior whose feats included the destruction of Troy, was forced to sail by the Sirens' Island. He was cautioned about the risk and told to use beeswax to seal the ears of all his sailors so that no sound could get in. To hear the singing, he had to tie his wrists and feet to the mast and have his crew pledge not to release him under any circumstances. This was completed.

The men did not respond to the music as the ship approached the island, but Odysseus grew so fascinated with it that he cried to be released, fought against the shackles, and warned the sailors with dreadful consequences if they did not follow his orders.

The description of Jason and his ship, Argo, may be found in the same epic. Jason and his companions were on their way back with the Golden Fleece when they were confronted by the Sirens' soul-crushing melody. Jason matched the Sirens' delicate melodies with even more beautiful Orpheus' lyre notes.

In the early stages of sadhana, an aspirant's senses may cause him pain. He may become like the sailors who had their ears blocked with beeswax in the second stage. However, as spiritual growth becomes more solid, the need to abandon the world and its objects fade. The allure of God's own song now outweighs the noise caused by material items.

There are times when a person living a worldly life, surrounded by things of pleasure but gratified to a large extent, may begin to believe that he is firmly set in renunciation. This is not correct.

The story of Mudgala Rishi and Rishi Durvasa from Mahabharata

The Mahabharata has a narrative of the ascetic sage Mudgala and his household, which included his wife and kid. They used to take their meals only once a fortnight. Alms were collected in such a way that there were no remains after their twice-weekly meal.

To put this sage's authority to the test, another sage, Durvasa, known for his rage, decided to pay a visit to Mudgala on the day he ate and asked to be fed. Mudgala was thrilled to have such a renowned sage as a guest and served him the prepared meals. Durvasa ate everything and then left, only to return a fortnight later. This time, he performed the same thing and repeated his test four more times.

So the family went three months without eating, but the sage Mudgala remained unaffected. Finally, the sage Durvasa commended Mudgala, adding,

' It is hard for even sages to conduct spiritual pursuits without nourishment.' Hunger arouses the worst of emotions in everyone. You are extremely amazing to have stayed emotionally unaffected despite being deprived of nourishment for such an extended period of time.'

The misconceptions of Spiritual progress

In our thoughts, imposed starvation elicits the most negative feelings. Those who live in the world but do not appreciate its joys because they are satiation are not truly great. Only when one's body and mind are not disturbed, even when away from pleasures, can one be regarded great. Swami Vivekananda disregarded the 'modern Janakas' who, though residing in the material world, thought themselves to be enlightened.

We feel less upset when we are offended than when we recall it later and are more disappointed to recall our actions than when we did it. When we are away from the items we desire and think about them, we experience increased desires. When tangible items are there, they always have a softer grasp on us than when thoughts are presented before us. Even when they are well advanced, aspirants are prone to this mental propensity.

Apathy towards money, health, and fame

The need for earthly possessions and assistance fades as one grows spiritually. Wealth, health, comforts, money, reputation, and renown are unimportant to a real devotee. Even if they have to work for a living, they keep their wants to a bare minimum and never look beyond the basics. Their concern for the body is limited to satisfying their appetite through simple means.

Such people are satisfied on the inside, and they invest what they make without ever exceeding their budget. This representation illustrates the interaction between a spiritually developing individual and the world. The changes that occur in such people are not the result of thought or rationalisation, but rather of a natural process. For them, holding on to elevated values is not a problem; rather, compromising on the ideal is a hardship.

The impact of thoughts on Spiritual Progress

The character and personality of each human being like an open book that can be readily read if we know how to do it. Our face, body, and attitude are shaped by our mental condition. How we sit, talk, move, sleep, interact, and do other activities reveal how we think and who we are. Our vices, qualities, intellect, ignorance, hidden habits, dispositions, and, most importantly, spiritual make-up appear to be expressing itself via our limbs and features.

Structural changes in mind and body due to sacred thoughts

Thoughts have an impact on brain wiring, which in turn has an impact on the bodily structure. When one engages in a certain type of thought for an extended period of time, the body suffers lasting alterations. As a result of this transformation, it is now easier for the mind to fulfil desires that require the assistance of the body. As a result, the ideas of a sprinter hoping for Olympic gold will alter his brain, which will then remodel his body to make the goal a reality. Similarly, those who have aggressive ideas develop sharp lines on their faces, whereas a poet's face seems gentle.

When sacred thoughts enter the mind, structural changes occur in the mind and body. As a result, the face alters as well. The body alterations and markings are varied due to the spiritual patterns being diverse. An aspirant's whole look is plainly indicative of the mould into which he is attempting to cast himself.

A careful eye may see the philosophical knowledge of the mould, the beliefs, and the amount of progress gained. The great gurus are known to have the power to assess the true spiritual nature of a person and set them on the right path if they had chosen the wrong one.

Signs in the body of a spiritual person

The Brahmo movement, for example, was at its height during Sri Ramakrishna's time. People in Kolkata had drawn to the concept of the movement, which condemned idol worship and glorified the pursuit of knowledge, after being inspired by Keshub Chandra Sen. Declaring oneself a Jnani, or follower of the path of wisdom, had a certain allure. 'It will not do simply to repeat, "I am He, I am He", Sri Ramakrishna used to remark.

A Jnani can be identified by specific characteristics. Narendra has large, bulging eyes. He also has nice eyes and a nice forehead (P.249)... You see, I can identify a Paramhamsa by his neck and forehead (p. 881).'

When it came to non-spiritual people, on the other hand, he used to say, "Short stature and a physique with dents here and there are not desirable features." Spiritual understanding takes a long time for those with these characteristics (p.766)... Individuals having physical characteristics such as bony people, hollow-eyed, and cross-eyed people cannot readily gain belief (p.234).

The key changes that occur in a spiritual person

Changes in the body's structure:

The weight of the aspirant's body seems to be burnt by spiritual thought currents. A devotee has a soft physique, and the joints in his arms and legs are not stiff, allowing these parts to be readily rotated around.
The joints do not appear to be angular, even if the body is slim. The forearms of a person with a pristine mind are lighter than those of the average person. A saint's physique has a gentleness about it, even if he is heavy or strong. The sheer strength and cruelty of such people are drained from their limbs.
It is believed that when the yogis respond to nature's call, their urine stream deflects to the right and their faeces do not have a bad odour. Divine personalities do not have elevated nipples. It is hard to say whether or not similar qualities apply to aspirants of other pathways.
A person with eyes like lotus petals has good thoughts. The eyes of a yogi are pointed upward and red in colour, and the eyes of a pious person are long which reach very close to the ears.
Certain physical disorders such as blindness, do not improve with sadhana. The great sage Ashtavakra's limbs remained deformed. Surdasa, the famous Hindi spiritual poet, was blind throughout his life. Other characteristics, such as gentleness, are likely to exist even in disabled people.

Changes in voice, facial expression and health

One of the earliest outcomes of spiritual practice is a shift in facial expression. Spirituality brings a sense of calm, which is reflected in the face. Harsh lines fade away, making it universally pleasing.
Following that is a lovely voice. The flaws in the voice are smoothed out. Instead of a gruff, croaky, or strident voice, the person develops a pleasant, soothing, musical, and majestic voice that is appealing.
