I feel more than a little fed up with right wing leaning folk who harp on the existence of our central federal government. They bandy around words such as "bureaucracy", wastefulness" and "tyranny" without ever providing meaningful examples that would warrant such angst. It's so fucking disingenuous when they also enjoy all the things a strong federal government offers them. This is the way we as a people have organized ourselves and it works out very very well for the large part. Have they heard of the fire department? It's fucking amazing. If your house catches on fire, they'll come put it out. Is that tyranny or a fantastic socialist idea? Police are great. Interstates and roadways are fucking awesome. Government invented the internet and put a man on the goddamned moon. You can even send a letter or a package all the way across the country thanks to the government. Without a federal government there would be no American Dream.

Instead of pissing and moaning about talking points they hear from right wing media these lemmings should be grateful for all the things the government has done and does for them. We are the most free people in the history of people. So pay your fucking taxes and shut the fuck up.

Explain to me in detail the logic behind every second amendment rights spouting rube's declaration that they need to have a stockpile of guns to protect their home and family. I have been lower-middle class my entire life and have lived in lower-middle class/white trash neighborhoods all my life and have never felt in danger of someone coming into our home to harm my family. Additionally, my extended poor neighborhood dwelling family and friends have never had to defend themselves against home intruders. On top of that, we never heard stories of someone who knows someone who's related to someone else that were attacked in their home by wild blood-thirsty intruders trying to steal, rob or rape.
Never heard about it on the evening news.
Never caught wind of any urban legends about it.
So what the fuck are these idiots talking about? The chances of them having to pull out one of their guns to protect family and/or property against home invaders is astronomically remote and far outweighed by the highly increased odds of one of their family members dying by the same guns they bring into the home.
Being blinded by your own fervor is a sign of ignorance. O_o

One thing we can learn from the current events of the past few years is that the United States should declare war on every other single nation on earth. Potentially all those countries have citizens that hate us for our freedom and they can easily learn how to make bombs on the internet. Additionally, the government should arm every US citizen over the age of 6 with at least 3 guns/assault rifles/crossbows etc (whatever the citizen desires because we are a free country and goddamn if big government is going to tell us what kind of weapon we can have). We would then be free to open fire on (1) anyone who comes to our house that we don't recognize, (2) anyone who has a funny name and has a dark shade of skin, (3) anyone who looks suspicious or carries a suspicious package and (4) any person who is admittedly not christian and doesn't verbally express their undying love for our country.

This is the only way we can have a just and free society without sharia law. I'm going to pop "Sarah Palin's Alaska" in the DVD player now.

Where are these 2nd amendment rubes coming from? They shoot first and listen second, which is why the rest of civilization is wary of them having semi-automatic weapons in the first place. Stop and listen for a moment; no one is talking about banning guns, taking your guns or redacting the 2nd amendment. So just relax, put on your big boy pants and join the conversation.

The constructive thing to do is to talk about how we stop (read: curb) the madness that is springing up more and more across the land. Do we put more resources into caring for our mentally ill citizens? Create a more arduous and strict screening process to determine who can buy these weapons of death? Require liability insurance for weapons? Intelligently fund education so our children reap the benefits and not administrators, in hopes of preventing mass killings by disaffected youth?

These are the things that need to be talked about. Every time some hillbilly spouts off about Obama coming to take his gun (Ted Nugent) or the solution being to arm everyone and let the fastest on the draw survive (NRA) they are effectively pissing on the graves of those 20 dead kindergartners in Connecticut. And fucking shame on them for that.

I think libertarians got it wrong. You can't put up a fence, hold up a bill of sale and tell me that you own this meadow, this pasture, that pond or that forrest. These things need to belong to everyone. Property rights, but only to a reasonable extent my friend. A libertarian friend once tried to convince me that it's just if someone works harder (or whatever the happenstance because more frequently hard work has absolutely nothing to do with it) than others then they deserve to have more. I can't get my mind around that. Especially when there is finite "stuff" and human beings die of starvation everyday.
