With Google’s long awaited file-synchronisation service Google Drive set to launch within the coming weeks, details are already starting to emerge over what it will provide for users.

Search giant Google has today announced that its planned acquisition of Motorola Mobility has been approved by the European Commission. The approval has been posted to the Commission’s site here and says that it approved the merger largely because it will not “significantly modify the market situation in respect of operating systems and patents for these devices.”

In January, Symantec admitted that back in 2006, its servers were the victim of a cyber attack. The people responsible for the attack took the source code for a number of Symantec's security software products. Hackers who said they were associated with Anonymous threatened in January to release the source code. However, Symantec said that since the source code was so old, most of the products that are currently being used by customers were not in danger. The one exception was the PCAnywhere product which Symantec later updated with a patch.

Yesterday, Google has finally released its Chrome browser for Android in a beta version.

It’s been four years since Google Chrome launched for the desktop and the mobile version will finally allow you to sync all of your information for a true seamless mobile experience. Unfortunately, it’s not available to everyone, as this version will only run on phones that have Ice Cream Sandwich.

We've been hearing about the HTC Ville, which should be set for an announcement at Mobile World Congress next month, since November of last year. The guys at HTC Hub recently spent some hands-on time with this upcoming mid-ranger and shot some video showing what it's all about. Prepare to be underwhelmed.

Google's social networking service Google+ is still gaining new users by leaps and bounds.

Did you know that your right to root your Android phone is actually protected by U.S. copyright law? It’s true. In a 2010 revision to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the US Copyright Office granted an exemption that made modifying copyrighted software legal for the purposes of unlocking phones. This was mostly aimed at the iPhone (as Apple was trying to establish a legal precedent for suing its own customers at the time) but the exemption applies to any cell phone, including all Android phones sold in the United States. There’s just one problem: the exemption wasn’t permanent, and it’s set to expire later this year.

A few days ago, it looked like the hacker group Anonymous was planning to launch a file sharing web site, Anonyupload, that would try to take the place of the recently shut down Megaupload. Now it looks like the site isn't being endorsed or run by the main Anonymous group after all. On Tuesday, the AnonOps Twitter site posted up a new message: "We have NO affiliation with this site, and by the looks of it, this is a SCAM."

Well that was fast.

Anonymous went on a big cyber attack spree last week, shutting down a number of major government and entertainment trade group web sites in retaliation over the US government's shut down of the Megaupload file sharing web site. Now it appears that Anonymous, or at least a sub-section of the hacker group, wants to launch a file sharing site of their own.

It really is becoming a horror story for file-sharing websites these past couple of days, as yet another website has begun partially shutting down its services.

Following the recent US government takedown of MegaUpload for allegedly facilitating copyright infringement, amongst other claims, popular file-sharing website Filesonic has now disabled its file-sharing functionality. The only thing that users of the site can do now is access the files that they personally have uploaded, leaving the site as less of a file-sharing service and more of a personal storage bank.

Days ago, we saw that CyanogenMod and ClockworkMod Recovery developer Koushik Dutta was talking up the possibility of a specially-built app store for CyanogenMod, which would happily welcome all the apps that for one reason or another have gotten the boot from the Android Market. Koush showed off just that on his Google+ page, where he posed the original question: you can see an extremely early screenshot of the submission page for the “CyanogenMod App Store” below. The screenshot is hosted on the web site for ClockworkMod Recovery and ClockworkMod Tether, both of which Koush maintains himself.
