Marikar Films banner, Shahul Marikar producing and V K Prakash directing new Malayalam movie "Thank You" is on the verge of the completion. The film will again bring on the team of VKP and Jayasurya with their own touch of visual brilliance. Arun Lal is the man behind the script of this Malayalam film "Thank You".

Director V K Prakash is known for his variety of themes, which includes the films like
"Karmayogi", "Beautiful", "Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla" is the name to few. "Thank You" will be the seventh film together for Jayasurya and V K Prakash, while the film has the star cast of Honey Rose, Aishwarya Devan, Kailash, Tini Tom, Balachandran, Sethu, Mukundan and others. Music department has handled by Bijibal with the lyrics of Rafeeq Ahamed.

Arvind Krishna is the director of photography, while editing has been settled by Babu Rathnam. Art director is Saloo K George and costumes have been designed by Liji Preman. Production controller is Vinod Paravoor, Chief associate director is Sajimon V P, Associate director is Mridul Nair. Make Up has done by Rasheed Ahammed, Stills have taken by Saji Obscura.

Kerala Software Engineer develops the anti piracy software for films

A Kerala-based software engineer has come up with an anti-piracy device to check recording of movies in theatres using sophisticated mobile phones or handycams.

Varghese Babu told IANS here that the product, which has gone for patent processing, was developed after three years of research.

"It has been named
as 'Demolish Duplica' and has a hardware unit which is placed in movie theatres. The moment anyone tries to record a film, the hardware unit recognises it and stops the recording. An alert is sent to a server and the anti-piracy cell of police," Babu said.

The product has been priced at Rs.1.5 million, the 30-year-old software engineer said.

"The serial number of the mobile phone or the handycam gets recorded on the hardware device, and details of the location from where the recording is being done can be accessed by the authorities," Babu added.

He added that the product can also track tampering of the film during the editing process.

Responding to whether it is the only such product available in the market, Babu said: "Had there been any other application available, there would have been no pirated versions available of new releases."

"I have been receiving inquiries from the film industry and at the moment I am completing the formalities for getting this patented," Babu said.

Boat capsized, Chackochan falls....

As we have reported earlier about Kunchako Boban's new movie "Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum", which is being directed by Lal Jose and the latest news from the sets is Kunchako Boban experienced a unexpected dip into the Karuvayilthodu lake, where the shoot of the movie was on schedule. However there are no reports of injury to Chackochan.

The incident took place during the shooting of a fight sequence of the movie, in which
Hero's boat was supposed to chased by the villains. On the shoot one of the boats were collided with the Kunchako Boban's boat, which resulted into the capsizing of the boat and Chackochan fell into the lake. As it wasn't the big trouble, so Chackochan swam back to the shores.

The shoot of the movie gets a halt for few hours due to this incident, but later it was restarted with everything back to the normal. Namitha Pramod is the heroine of the movie "Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum", while the film is being produced by Balcony 6 Entertainments banner.

"Thrissur Pooram" to feature in a film on amazing fireworks.....

The festivities and fireworks at the Thrissur Pooram festival have stunned two US-based filmmakers who are making a movie on pyrotechnics across the globe. They have termed it as one of the most amazing display they have ever witnessed.

The Veverka brothers - Jesse and Jeremy - both educated at the prestigious Cornell University, are making a full-length feature-documentary titled "Passfire" under their own production banner. The film features the
world's most amazing fireworks, the passionate people who make them and the cultures behind them.

The duo was here last month to witness the Thrissur Pooram festivities, where the fireworks display is a much-talked about event by tourists who come from across the globe.

"The objective of our film is to show people the various ways that people use fireworks around the world and the joy fireworks bring," Jesse Veverka told IANS in an email interview.

Kerala by far has the biggest maroons, a type of round firecracker, that they have ever seen anywhere.
In other countries, a maroon might be six or eight inches at the most, but in Kerala, they saw ones as big as 30 inches in diameter, and weighing over 100 kg. The only other country that makes such large shells is Japan, but those are built for colour, not sound.

"In Kerala fireworks are about flash and sound, not colour. We have never seen so many big and bright loud fireworks anywhere else. It was explained to us that in Hindu mythology, the sound honours gods such as Shiva and Rama.

"That is also unique - using fireworks to honour the gods," said Jesse Veverka, who is an aerospace engineer by training but is passionate about fireworks.

The duo plans to release the nearly two-hour long film in 2015. The project is 100 percent privately funded by sponsorship from the firework industry and through crowd funding, which entails raising money from private individuals.

So far, they have raised about 40 percent of the $250,000 expected cost of the film.

Apart from India, they have visited the US, China, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand for the project and will soon travel to Malaysia, Mexico, Britain, Spain, Italy, Malta, Greece, Portugal, Brazil, South Africa and Australia - and possibly more countries - to get a complete picture on fireworks.

After traversing several places, Jesse Veverka said there is something different about fireworks in Kerala because people here send them aloft from holes dug in the ground rather than using launch tubes like in other countries.

"Also, in Kerala they don't use electronic firing systems. Shows are hand-fired and lines of black powder (gun powder) are run between the holes in the ground to connect the different shells. We have only seen this in Kerala," added Jesse Veverka.

"The theme of how fireworks are used in various cultures will tie the film together and Thrissur Pooram will be very important - it will have a major place in the film," he added.

Malayalam actor Vinu Mohan has entered the special relation in his life by placing the wedding ring in the fingers of Vidyalakshmi. The wedding took place at Contour Back Waters Auditorium, Changanassery on May 19. Few film fraternity friends and both families relatives made it to the occasion. Last year we have given the news of Vinu Mohan's wedding with Vidyalakshmi.

Vinu Mohan is the son of late Mohan Kumar and actress Shobha Mohan. He made his impressive debut to the Malayalam cinema with A K Lohithadas directed "Nivedyam", then goes on to work
on many Malayalam films like "Cycle", "Koottukar", "Bombay Mithai", "Ezhamathe Varavu" and so on. Meanwhile his bride Vidyalakshmi is also an actress and worked in the movies like "Maharaja Talkies", "MLA Mani", "Neelambari" and others.

There has been a grand reception at Gokulam Convention Center, Kochi on May 24, which will be attended by glamour world's who & who. Vinu Mohan's brother Anu Mohan has also made his entry to the Malayalam films with "Orkut Oru Ormakuttu" movie.

Review : "Orissa"

1980's true story is the claim by the director M Padmakumar in his directorial Malayalam movie "Orissa", but sad to say this real story gives a bit of anguish and the film totally fails to connect conventional story telling. G S Anil's script is too lethargic or may be the narration adopted by the director M Padmakumar affects the film's good prospect. "Orissa" could have been a brilliant watch, if it had treated well.....

It all began with the two Old age couples journey to their old memories, which they left back in the state of Orissa in their younger
days. With that memories, we move through the life of Christhudas (Unni Mukundan) and Suneyi (Saanika Nambiar) in 1980's at Orissa, where the Devadasi system made many of the women's to live the life like a slave. Suneyi's mother oppose this system imposed forcefully by the leader of the clan Karmadeva Pradhan (Nigel Akkara), which was to make her daughter Suneyi a Devadasi. To protect her daughter Suneyi's mother cost her life with the bullet from the gun of Karmadeva Pradhan.

Suneyi saw her mother's death and to protect herself from the clan leader, she needs protection and that came in the face of young police constable Chrithudas from Kerala, who gets the posting in Orissa. In the meantime, we go through some protest from social activist Meera Bai (Tanushree Ghosh) and we see that collector has ordered imprisonment of Karmadeva Pradhan for a year. In between, love blooms around Christhudas and Suneyi, where everything was fine, but the return of devil force them to the difficult situation, which forms the rest of this story.

M Padmakumar and scenarist G S Anil haven't applied the proper dialogues as well, above that voiceover in Malayalam language, impair the quality scenes. biggest let down is the script, which looks voluminous, however things could have been different, if the makers kept the narration in a nice pace. On the visual composition, full marks to the cinematographer Vinod Illampilly, who adapted the sensual beauty of the new location.

Unni Mukundan looks hesitant with his character and managed to the mediocre level. Saanika Nambiar did gave her best and looks to be a promising find in Malayalam cinema. Nigel Akkara, Tanushree Ghosh, Swasika, Ganja Karuppu, Kaniha, Sanjeev Chakraborty and others have given their decent shots to the characters. Music hasn't gave too much of strength with the hands of Ratheesh Vegha and lyrics by Aalankode Leelakrishnan. For the banner of Heera Films, Chattikkal Madhavan Edappal is the producer of this Malayalam movie "Orissa", which has distributed by Heera Films through Nalukettu Release.

Here comes the good news, who wants to hear straight from Vineeth Sreenivasan, who has announced his third directorial Malayalam movie "Thira". As of now he hasn't revealed the details of cast and crew due to some works have still pending in the bags. After the movie "Thattathin Marayathu", Vineeth Sreenivasan was going through the busy days to complete the script of his next movie "Thira".

Unlike his previous two films, Vineeth revealed that it would be a different and tough genre for him to deal with, which is thriller. He also
stated that the film would be a biggest challenge, he has taken so far. Earlier it was reported that Vineeth's brother Dhyan Sreenivasan would make his entry through his next film, however the cast and details are still in cover, so it will be interesting to see whether Dhyan would make it to the cast or not.

Reports that Reels Magic banner, Manoj Menon will produce this Malayalam film "Thira" and it will be distributed by director Lal Jose owned distribution wing L J Films. It also reported that Lumiere Films will produce this movie, but things would come crystal clear after getting more details.

Kalabhavan Mani in trouble for altercation with forest officials

A case has been registered against well known cine actor Kalabhavan Mani for allegedly intimidating forest officials during a vehicle search at Kannamkuzhi near Athirapply in the Thrissur district.

The FIR, lodged on the basis of a complaint by two forest officials, charged the actor under IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 322 (voluntarily
causing hurt to deter public servants from duty) and 249b (uttering obscene words), police said.

According to the complaint, Mani objected to his car being searched by the officials when they stopped his vehicle while it was passing through Kannamkuzhi.

Mani and his friends allegedly pushed aside the officials, a beat forest officer and a deputy range officer, and drove away from the spot. After some time, they returned to the forest office and allegedly roughed up and abused the officials.

Mani, his two friends and the wife of one of them were in the car at the time of the incident.

The woman, who was travelling with them, had lodged a counter complaint with the police alleging they had been intimidated by the forest officials.

Later, Mani got admitted to a hospital in his home town Chalakkudi complaining of uneasiness.

Review : "Aaru Sundarimarude Katha"

Rajesh K Abraham's thriller Malayalam movie "Aaru Sundarimarude Katha" pretends to be a brilliant thriller, but the use of irony to mock, led the situation to an ordinary level. However makers did put on their effort to engage the viewers, apart margin of error dilute the screenplay as a tacky one. After watching this film, one would feel that "Aaru Sundarimaarude Katha" is approachable and one time watch.....

The film begins with narration of Chachi Moothedan (Zareena Wahab), who is interesting and just enjoying the new world of Internet. Chachi's husband
laid on the footstep for a Television network, which is now owned by Chachi's daughter Rose Moothedan (Nadia Moithu) and Rose's husband Alex (Prathap Pothen). Their daughter is Anju (Umang Jain), who used to play tennis and hope to make it big one day. Here we have other characters as well with IT employee Sreekumar (Narain) and his wife Meena (Shamna Kasim). Meena suspects that her husband has some affairs and almost spend her most of the time on their baby's care.

On a certain point, Sreekumar find his school friend Rose on social networking site Facebook, there begins the revival of their old friendship with the chatting. Meanwhile Alex as his lifestyle, develop the special interests in women and get on to meet Cyns Ria (Lena), which turns out the bad phase of life for him. As we go through murder mystery prevail over the rest of the story, there you have to solve some confusions to get on the sixth beauty, which takes you to the climax.

Nadia Moithu and Zareena Wahab pass on the aura that makes this narration a nice one. Prathap Pothen, Narain, Shamna Kasim, Lena, Umang Jain have justified their characters to an extent. Lakshmi Rai, not purposefully but looks wobbled in her character of ASP Fouzia Hassan. Songs are nice with the touch of Deepak Dev and lyrics from Kaithapram and Anu Elizabeth Jose. BGM score was quite good.

First half gave the feel of serendipity, but when it goes to the second half, things wasn't look convincing for this script by director Rajesh K Abraham and Sennie Varghese. On the direction side, Rajesh managed the things till the suspense, but one would imagine the result after knowing the rest of the plot. Frames from Sameer Haq doesn't give the real feel, while same for the editing by Praveen Prabhakar. For the banner of AVA Productions, A V Anoop is the producer of this Malayalam movie "Aaru Sundarimaarude Katha".

"Kaanchi" : Indrajith to pull the trigger.....!

Indrajith gets the new set of interest to his hobbies.., latest we heard that he will play with guns...., wait before you assume something.., we would like to reveal that we are talking about his new Malayalam movie "Kaanchi", which will have Indrajith in the central character. G N Krishna Kumar will direct this Malayalam film "Kaanchi".

After the award winning movie "Ozhimuri", scenarist Jeyamohan will once again do the writings for this Malayalam film, which

We don't depict communities in bad light : Malayalam Filmmakers

Malayalam filmmakers say stereotyping may be possible, but clarify that they do not depict any community in a bad light intentionally as alleged by T. Peter.

In a recent article in the fortnightly "Alakal", T. Peter, national secretary of the Kerala Swathanthra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF), expressed disappointment over Malayalam films and TV serials showing the fisherfolk in a bad light, especially their dressing style and depiction of Malayalam accent.

"This has been going on for long and this is unfair to a community, who
is the most hardworking besides being the most vulnerable in the Kerala society," wrote Peter.

Speaking to IANS, Suresh Kumar, one of the leading film producers in the Malayalam film industry, denied allegation.

"Filmmaking is about spending money and it has become very expensive. So, will anyone waste money just to depict a particular community in a bad light," asked Kumar, who has produced 31 films in his career spanning over three decades.
Incidentally, in the recent past his film "Mahasamuduram", which starred superstar Mohanlal, tells the tale of a coastal community.

Kumar said that he "disagrees with Peter", who said that in the film "Chemmeen" the usage of 'Kadaappuram' (sea) was the writer's imagination.

"Will a famed writer like the Jnanpith award winner Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, quite familiar with the coast, use the word that emanated from his imagination? I doubt that," said Kumar, whose wife Maneka was a hugely popular South Indian actress.

Popular writer and director B. Unnikrishnan said that to a certain extend he agrees with Peter, but at the same time he feels setting guidelines for writers is practically impossible.

"Look, the film industry tends to follow the stereotype pattern and it is only natural that writers often keep going back to successful themes and character depiction. And mind you, it's not just the fisherfolk community who has such feelings of being depicted in bad light. See, we just cannot set guidelines for writing and I doubt if we can make any intervention," said Unnikrishnan, who was recently re-elected as the secretary of Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA).

He also added that the Muslim community can also have a grouse for often showing Muslim names as smugglers in our movies.

Speaking to IANS, K. Babu, State Minister for Fisheries, said depiction of any community in poor light purposefully won't be accepted.

"What I feel is that films often show the real life situation and it's only but natural that those into filmmaking do a lot of research and study their characters in closely. Look, if there is one community, who has been depicted in a bad light is my own community - khadi clad politicians. But won't accept if any community is purposely defamed in the name of 'expression of freedom'," said Babu.

The stage is all set for the love story of an Odiya girl Suneyi and a Malayali boy Christhudas, which will happen on the silver screen on this Friday (May 17). M Padmakumar directed Malayalam film "Orissa" get the green signal to make its way to the theatres on tomorrow. Unni Mukundan and Saanika Nambiar will do the central characters in the film.

T K Rajeev Kumar directed Malayalam movie "Up and Down Mukalil Oralundu" has began the proceedings to reach out the theatres on tomorrow (May 17). Finally the film has got the adjustment in the slot of the maximum release in a day. It seems to be around other three films has already booked their place on this Friday.

Blue Mermaid Picture Company's banner, Karunamoorthy, Balachandran and Latha Kurien Rajeev produced this Malayalam film has
Indrajith and Meghnaraj in the lead characters, while Prathap Pothen, Rejith Menon, Shruthi Menon, Remya Nambeesan, Kochupreman, Nandhu, Baiju, Ganesh Kumar and others include the list of actors. Sunny Joseph and Manuel George are the script writer and dialogues have been written by Indu Gopan.

Galaxy Films banner, Milan Jaleel produced and Razak Mohammed, Niyaz Bakar jointly directed Malayalam movie "Vallatha Pahayan" is all set for the release on this Friday (May 17). The film will roll out the comedy flavour in front of the audience. Galaxy Films Release will bring this Malayalam film to the theatres.

"Vallatha Pahayan" will discuss the life of a Village man's struggle to survive in the urban infrastructure and his fight against the administration. All these struggle will be caricatured in
the humour style. Manikandan Pattambi, Vinod Kovoor, Sneha Janardhanan, Mamukkoya, Sadikh, Rachna Narayanankutty, Niyas, Irshad, Kalabhavan Haneef, Kochupreman, Mala Aravindan, Indrans, Jaffar Idukki, Sunil Sukhadha, KPAC Lalitha, Kulappuli Leela, Subi Suresh, Narayanankutty and others include the long list of cast.

K V Vijayan prepared the story, while Utpal V Nayanar done the cinematography. P T Vinu's lyrics were composed by Bijibal. V T Sreejith is the editor and Sujith Raghav is the art director. Velayudhan Keezhillam designed the costumes, Shibu Gangadharan is the associate director and Make up has done by Pradeep Rangan.

Review : "Neram"

Director smartly stole the each moment (Neram) to weave the connected events that gives nice output to the movie "Neram", however on the stealing part, director Alphonse Putharen mentioned Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino's words 'I Steal from every movie ever made'. On the whole narration pattern here, somewhat develop the unusual liking, which makes this Malayalam movie "Neram" a watchable one.

Lets move on to the story, Mathew (Nivin Pauly) a techie lands up in the complicated situation with the loss of his Job in the US-based IT company. Moreover, he is in love with his school time girlfriend
Jeena (Nazriya Nazim), while to get his sister Ann (Anju Kurian) married and other expenses, Mathew had taken the loan from moneylender and a thug Vatti Raja (Simhaa). For the past few months, Mathew hasn't paid the interest as well. Vatti Raja has already gave the enough time for Mathew and now he gave the last time for the settlement.

On that particular day of settlement, mountain of problems are waiting for him. On this particular circumstances, his girlfriend Jeena ran out of her house because of her father Johnkutty (Lalu Alex) ask her to leave unemployed Mathew and marry someone else. Mathew somehow accumulate the money with the help of his friend John to give that to Vatti Raja and on the other hand Jeena is expecting her love Mathew would soon arrive at the bus stop. Some uninvited characters put Mathew in more trouble, which forms the rest of this film.

Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim have once again graced the screen with their charm that they leave on the album "Yuvvh". Apart from that nice bit of efforts from the senior actors like Manoj K Jayan as Rayban, Lalu Alex, Shammi Thilakan as SI Ukken Tintu. Simhaa gave his best to the character Vatti Raja, while Wilson Joseph, Deepak Nathan, S V Krishna Shankar and others have managed their characters in a good way. Music here played the important part, especially in the narration BGM and the songs are really good with the hands of Rajesh Murugesan.

Alphonse Putharen appropriately mixed the story, where one would feel that it could have been more vivacious in terms of humour. Although director was in full command of the situations and gave his best shot with the limited resources to manage this gripping tale. Visual composition by Anand C Chandran really fantastic that charged up the scenes that endorse the quality. Winner Bulls Films and Koral Vishwanathan are the producers of this Malayalam movie "Neram", which has been distributed by L J Films.
