Maithri Trust - Support EWS families during Covid pandemic - Appeal for Support

Maithri Trust continues to serve the society during this Covid pandemic, though the Trust is primarily focussed in funding Children’s education from Economically Weaker Section, during this crisis it has also taken up the responsibility of extending a helping hand to the families of these children. Most of the children’s parents are dependant on daily wages/household chores. Many of them have been deprived of their income for the last 3 months & this loss of income may continue till August 20, if normal life starts in July 20.

During April and May 20, Maithri Trust has supported around 26 families with around 7000/- each, (average) for their monthly expenses other than providing them with kit containing essential’s, which includes rent on their homes. These are tough times and even donors who regularly fund the education budget find it difficult to provide additional funding during these crisis, though many have come forward to support the families, Maithri is short of funds to support another 12 families.

Maithri Educational & Charitable Trust was started in 1991 with the objective of providing financial assistance to needy children to pursue their education. We at Maithri firmly believe that education is fundamental to human liberation. Maithri Trust celebrates #Maithri25, our Silver Jubilee year. (1991-2016)

Maithri Trust started off funding for 7 students in 1991 & thanks to our donor's, currently extending educational benefits for 250+ students.

Maithri Trust, is continuing to strive to educate children from economically deprived families to provide them a purposeful future and bright career.

We have around 30 students who have passed Plus 2 this year and planning to pursue professional/higher studies.

Cost of professional/higher studies is between 30,000-50,000/-, against school fees which is around 10,000-15,000/-. In 2015 Maithri supported up to 12 students to Professional courses. This year the student numbers have doubled, and there is incremental cost due to escalation of fee structure in colleges.

Maithri Trust has had the support of regular donors, still there is substantial gap to be filled, due to escalation in number of students and cost escalation.

Hence we appeal to support the cause of Maithri Trust and help us fulfill the commitment of educate needy children.

Maithri Trust conducts Homam for 10th, +2 students

On Saturday 21^st Feb, 2015, Maithri educational & Charitable Trust, T-Nagar, Chennai conducted homam for 10^th /+2 students appearing for Board examinations, at Panigraha Kalyana Mandapam, West Mambalam. Dakshinamoorthy, Saraswathi & Haigriva homam was conducted, starting from 8AM to 11.30AM. Nearly 100 kids, few with their parents attended the program. Maithri Shri. Sridhar, founder Trustee, Sow.Sowmya , Trustee and family members were present during the homam.

Highlight of this homam was the kids offered prayers to the homam themselves, individually. Also Shri.Ranganaathan Sastry, wrote down the 3 Gayathri mantram, handed to each of the kids individually and everyone chanted it 108 times. They were also requested to chant the mantras regularly till the exam is over. Food was served to all the kids after the program.

Maithri Trust thanks Shri.Sridhar of Panigraha Kalayana Mandapam, who was kind enough to provide us the place, to Shri.Ranganathan Shastry & his team of vathiyar’s conducting the program. We, at Maithri Trust, Pray for all students appearing in 10^th /Plus 2 board exams to score excellent marks.

NaMo, Bollywood & reactions.

For a few days now, there is huge outcry in Tamilnadu. This started last 13^th April 2014 when Shri.Narendra Bhai Modi was expected to address a public meeting in AM Jain College, Meenambakkam. That evening after landing in Chennai Shri. Narendra Bhai Modi, visited the house of Shri.Rajinikanth, ‘SuperStar’ of Tamil cinema. The meeting was a mutual one of friendship, which was explained by Rajini. Something in Social Media shocked everyone, almost 3 Lakh ‘Like’ for the picture in FaceBook. And that too in a couple of hours.

Next 16^th April 2014, in Salem Shri.Narendra Bhai Modi shared dias with his NDA alliance partner Thiru.Vijaykanth. And later in the evening the social media was flooded with pictures of Actor Vijay( Known as Thalapati ) meeting Shri.Narendra Bhai Modi in Coimbatore.

There are mixed reactions, scores of educated blasted me saying that Shri Narendra Bhai need not have mixed with these Bollywood stars. Few even said its Shri. Narendra Bhai who instructed for all these meetings. Few even said that Shri. Narendra Bhai wanted to meet all Southern Cine Artists. Even Actor Vijay’s meeting news mention that he was asked by Shri. Narendra Bhai to meet him.

Well, if due to meeting all this actor’s there is traction in voting, then WHY NOT?, Who so ever has advised Shri. Narendra Bhai to meet these actors, publish pictures in Social Media, if there is positive result then ‘WHY NOT’?

The educated polity does not understand that there are huge perceptions. Rajini, Vijay have a following & it they can be converted to votes for NDA/BJP candidates, Shri. Narendra Bhai Modi will help.

Conclusion : All the Stars of Bollywood will only benefit from meeting Shri. Narendra Bhai Modi. Their Picture sessions will help them in their career. #NaMo is unbeatable.

My experience of living in Modi's Gujarat - Another E-Mail Blog.

I’m a 72 year old South Indian Brahmin lady – not belonging to Narendra Modi’s caste, I must mention in these days of caste-ridden mindsets – just survived the attack of the Emperor of Maladies, cancer that I have been suffering from for the past two years. I have no expectation from life for myself, even if Modi were to become the Prime Minister of the country. But I want the teeming millions of my compatriots, especially the younger generation, to learn that there is another side of the Modi story than the one they get bombarded with from anti-Modi industry.

The announcement of Mr. Narendra bhai Modi as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 elections in fact took me back to my Gujarat days 2004-2007. To begin with, I recall a conversation I had with the late Kiritbhai Rawal, the then Solicitor-General of India, whom I met in the company of my husband early in January 2004. Kiritbhai was instrumental in getting my husband to Gandhinagar, Gujarat, to set up GNLU. I asked him why Modi was not replying to the many public criticisms, Kiritbhai replied: Modi would not waste his time replying them, as they would continue to crop up ad infinitum. But he would rather focus his attention and energy in developing Gujarat as no other state would, and that would be his way of answering the critics. It’s a pity that Kiritbhai is not alive today to watch the way Gujarat has developed today.

Before my husband’s formal appointment to GNLU, he told me that he would decide on the offer only after meeting Modi (as he then had an opportunity to go abroad). Kiritbhai had said, the appointment would be formalized only after a meeting with Chief Minister Modi. He soon arranged a meeting between my husband and Modi at Ahmedabad. Besides, Kiritbhai, Modi was accompanied by two of his ministers. Towards the end of the meeting, my husband brought to the attention of Modi of his JNU background, and the fact that he had published a newspaper article on Gujarat (on the need for a law on genocide in India, published in The Hindu). Modi’s reply was that my husband could hold any opinion he wanted, but Modi would like him to build the best law University for Gujarat. He wanted a professional. My husband said, if he faced any problems on job, he would contact Modi’s office. Modi replied: “Not my office, but me directly.” So much for the so-called intolerance of Modi towards people who held views not agreeable to his.

My husband was impressed by the way he was treated and accepted the GNLU offer immediately. I was happy he did so, for this brought me closer to Gujarat. I really wanted to find out on the ground about the events leading to the 2002 riots, over which the media and political parties were going overboard. Also, I was earlier been snubbed badly by a senior teacher from Sambalpur, Odisha when I expressed my sincere condolences to him over the gruesome killings of Graham Steine and his children over religious intolerance. He shouted at me: Madam, you sit in an ivory tower in Delhi and pass judgments without knowing the ground realities. He said he felt sad human life was lost. But what about joint families being broken up by misguided conversions? His own family was one such victim eventually leading to coercive partition of family property for which he held the likes of Graham Steine responsible. How come, no media reported this side of the story?

In the initial years Gujaratis working in our Government-allotted house and also at GNLU were reluctant to open up. Later on as mutual confidence grew, they found me friendly and helpful, and then they began to be more informal. What they narrated to me showed that the media, particularly, English language media were lapping up one-sided news portraying Modi as the Demon and all his opponents’ angels. They told us about the earlier riots in which the Hindus were mostly at the receiving end. There were several instances of stone-throwing on Hindus passing through Muslim dominated areas of Ahmedabad. The governments of the day kept a blind eye to all this. All the suppressed passions broke loose at the Godhra carnage, and no government, Modi or no Modi, could have stopped what followed – despicable and condemnable as both the Godhra and post-Godhra killings were.

The Teen Darwaza area is always abuzz with people jostling with one another, with mostly Hindus customers of all classes visiting shops offering all kinds of wares, mostly owned by Gujarati Muslims. I was a regular visitor and took my friends and relatives for shopping for saris and gorgeous children’s dresses. A Muslim shop keeper told me once that Gujarati Muslims were all peace-loving, but the Muslim immigrants from other parts of the country often created trouble here. This was also confirmed to my husband by a sociology professor of JNU origin, from Gujarat University.

Since 2002, there has been peace and progress in the State. This is probably due to Modi’s policy of “justice for all and appeasement of none.” Pampering one community at the cost of another only leads to public resentment, perpetuation of communal divide. On the ground, practices of religions are not mutually exclusive. I was pleasantly surprised an array of Muslim traders and hawkers selling flowers and other puja samagris near Hindu temples in Ahmedabad – again the Bhadrakali temple near Teen Darwaza stood out. The hundreds of boatmen ferrying Hindu pilgrims from Dwarka to Bed Dwarka and back are Muslims who earn their living by facilitating Hindu pilgrimage.

The common people were happy with Modi as he was accessible to them for a hearing. Modern technology made it possible for Modi to personally reach out distant villages – he even spoke to them, identified them by video-conferencing on a regular basis. People could attend government functions without any security hassles. My housemaid told me that in not so distant past, womenfolk had to walk long distances to fetch water and return the same distances with pitchers on the head one over the other, but after Modi came the Narmada water reached their villages to their doorstep. In terms of the luxury of getting uninterrupted electricity (I have a house in Gurgaon), Gujarat was unrivalled.

After we arrived in Gandhinagar, we were allotted a government house in Sector 22, Gandhinagar. Being an old construction, it needed some repairs and electrical rewiring. The local works department office sent some electricians for the job. When they finished the work fast and to my satisfaction, I was pleased and gave them some money by way of tips. They were most unwilling to accept it, yet I persuaded them. It was just a token of my appreciation of their hard work. Finally they accepted it reluctantly. In the afternoon, to my utter surprise, two senior officers visited my house and asked me whether I paid any money to the workers and why. I said, yes, as I was pleased with their work. It was not a bribe and I really wanted to show my appreciation. The officers said, Madam, you are getting us into trouble: “if Modi Saab came to know of this, we would be taken to task.” They wanted to return the money, but I refused to take back the money. They said, don’t do this again and put them into trouble. This was clean, bribery-free administration for a housewife to experience.

As for the much criticised “Hindutwa” of Modi, here is food for thought. After the Bhoomipoojan of the GNLU campus in mid-2005 and installation of an Ashok Pillar at the entrance of the future campus, my husband happened to be a party to a discussion at the CM’s Chambers, Gandhinagar Secretariat. The then Law Minister suggested that in the future GNLU campus there should be a Saraswati temple, just across the Ashok Pillar. Modi killed the proposal in the bud by instantly asserting that the university was a public body to be constructed on government money. You can’t have a temple there, as the State must be non-religious.

Further, if Modi were a ‘kattar Hindu vadi,” why did he allow demolition of many Hindu temples that stood in the way of expansion and modernization of roads by the Gujarat Roads and Buildings Department? Some of these temples stood in the middle of some main roads in Ahmedabad. I particularly remember a very popular Shani Dev Mandir standing in the middle of a main road, and this had to be removed.

It was my feeling that L.K.Advani was not exactly popular in his constituency in Gandhinagar. My husband narrated to me a conversation that took place in a barber shop at the Sector 19 market on one fine morning. The shopkeeper was sharing with someone his disenchantment with Advani. He recalled his enthusiasm to lend support for an Advani election meeting in the small open space in front of his shop. Advani promised the audience to return to the constituency after elections and inquire about their welfare. This never happened until the next election. Two elections on, the people in the constituency had no glimpse of Advani. Someone asked the shopkeeper, why then did he continue to vote for Advani? The answer was “I was supporting Modi.” So, I don’t know who should be grateful to whom – Modi to Advani, or Advani to Modi.

Once we were returning from Junagarh after attending a function in a school. It was around midnight by the time we reached Gandhinagar. To my utter disbelief (I was so used to Delhi), I saw girls/women walking along the road in singles or in groups, perhaps after a mid-night shift in the nearby factories. I asked our driver about safety of girls and women in Gujarat. The driver announced proudly that they were safe and that they could move about in the night in any part of Gujarat.

Modi also ensured poor people’s access to justice, by streamlining the administration in the Secretariat. I was told, during Keshubhai’s time and before, the officers were not found on their seats even by 11 am, and they would nowhere be found in Gandhinagar by 3 pm. After Modi took over, the same officers were suddenly found on their seats 9 am to 5 pm, for fear of being reported to Modi, by the people with grievances to resolve.

Access to Modi was facile to common people. A student of GNLU told me once that she wanted to complain against a Minister and she could walk straight into Modi’s office and submit a petition. No wonder, an employee of GNLU – a staunch Congress supporter – said without hesitation, he would vote for Modi, if Modi were to contest from his constituency!

I have heard instances of Modi putting down some of his relatives who tried to exploit their relationship with Modi. Till this day, no allegation of corruption sticks on him.

The above reminiscences bring out the multifaceted personality of Modi. He was known to be blunt and straight mincing no words – quite ‘unIndian,’ would you say? While he gave patient hearing to the needy, he had no time for sychophants, or for frivolous talk.

The purpose of this write up, however, is to warn the younger generation against being swayed by the biased and motivated anti-Modi reports. To a non-partisan like me, Modi has all the qualities to make him the Prime Minister of India.

Riots were at a peak in Gujarat; police was not able to control (the situation) and there were reports in the media that "The CM was ineffective for the challenge, or he simply lacked the will to stop this violence, or to say worse, he is himself, along with other BJP and VHP leaders, organising all these riots."

Seeing the sensitive situation and the negative publicity it was generating for the BJP, L.K. Advani, the then Deputy Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, was busy finding ways to end that mayhem. The situation was confusing since it was not becoming clear what the root cause of the problem was. Was it Modi himself or the ineffective administration of Gujarat! Anyway, the first priority of Advani was to end this violence at any cost...

It struck Mr Advani that there was a man who was no more in active service but who was never away from the service of the nation who could be trusted to bring peace in Gujarat at that time. That was KPS Gill. So the only solution which seemed plausible to the Union Government was the appointment of former DGP Punjab KPS Gill as incharge of Police in Gujarat. But Gill was retired. Advani then came to the conclusion that Gill should be requested to become Security Advisor to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr Chandan Mitra met Mr Gill and broached the subject. On understanding the proposal, Mr Gill expressed his willingness to undertake the assignment but had one reservation. He said, "Chandan, you know I cannot be an armchair theorist, what will I do, if I am not given any freedom to control the affairs? What if my advice is not implemented? As a result Muslims will continue to get killed and then, I will also be held responsible for the killing of innocent people despite not having any power to stop it?" Mr Modi through Dr Mitra assured Mr Gill that he would not interfere in his work and would provide him all possible support to end the riots.

When news spread that Gill would be joining as Advisor to CM Gujarat, his former boss and former Punjab Police chief, J.F. Ribeiro, in his praise, said, "Gill can solve the Gujarat problem in a week but he will have to arrest VHP members and Muslim criminals. If Modi allows that, he will be signing his own death warrant."

In the first one to one meeting between Mr Gill and Mr Modi, what Mr Modi told Mr Gill, expressed the sincerity which he had towards the whole episode which was going on in Gujarat at that time.

Mr Modi said, "Gill Sahib, we have been talking to each other through Mr Mitra or Mr Advani but I want to request you now in person that I am not finding any solution to this violence, I am not getting a fit police response which could end the riots, I sought more force from the neighbouring States,

which happen to be Congress-ruled States, but they refused. Media, opposition parties and activists have launched a false anti-Modi campaign that I am behind all these riots, which is not true. My first principle as a devout Hindu and as a politician is "Sarve Janah Sukhino Bhavanthu (May all the people in the world be happy and peaceful)."

I believe in this prayer and I start my day as a politician with it. I have lot of faith in you, the country is indebted to you for saving Punjab from going out of the Union. Without cops like you there can be no democracies, there can be no political leaders and there can be no kings. I will personally be thankful to you for my life if you can help ending this mayhem at the earliest. The onus now is on you to fail me or make me successful as a democratic leader."

Mr Gill says, "After meeting Mr Modi, I was moved by his sincerity. I found him to be fair and sincere in terms of his intention to end the riots. He seemed worried and sad because his police had failed him in ending this violence; he wanted me to take whatever steps I deemed fit to end this violence and assured me whole-hearted support."

To make a proper assessment of the situation, Mr Gill started touring all those places which had witnessed communal riots. He listened in detail to the victims of violence, the constables, the officers and the locals to assess where the problem or the weakness lay. After a detailed assessment of the challenge which lasted for one week, Gill says, "I found the police force unequal to the challenge; majority of the policemen themselves had become communal in their duty as they were enraged with the killings of so many kar sewaks (fellow Hindus) at the hands of Muslims in Godhra. Similar was the condition of the civil administration. Since Mr Modi had become the CM only a few months back, the administration and the police force were not in his proper grip and it takes time to develop such a grip when you are at such a top position. I found that in the previous two months Mr Modi had made all efforts to stop riots, he had called in the army with swiftness, he sought forces from the neighbouring States and the Centre.

"I realised that people of all political parties who were anti-Modi and anti-BJP were taking advantage of this mayhem and making all efforts to defame Modi one way or the other.

"The so called dharam-nirpeksh (secular) parties were taking advantage of the fact that Mr Modi follows the principles of Hindutva. They were portraying Hindutva as something anti non-Hindu religions. My understanding was that Mr Modi's practising of principles of Hindutva in no way meant that he would allow killing people of other religions.

"Today Gujarat is one of the best administered States not only for Hindus but for all religions and all castes. The credit for this goes to only and only Mr Modi."

Mr Gill's assessment was that the problem which needed an immediate solution was to cut this communal bug from the minds of the policemen and those who could not be freed of this bug should not be allowed to sit in sensitive posts...

The first step Gill took within three days of joining there was transferring all those officers who failed to prevent the riots in their areas. Mr Gill interacted with all those officers and based on his assessment of their competency and intentions he got them transferred from sensitive posts. Those officers expected to be fair in their working were given sensitive posts.

Mr Gill says, "Mr Modi provided me full freedom to transfer those officers whom I considered ineffective in terms of preventing violence as per their record of the past few days. The kind of free hand Mr Modi gave me to apply my strategies was given to me in Punjab by Sh. Beant Singh and through the pages of this book I want to make it clear to one and all that Modi was never communal in his conduct during this whole mayhem. He only conducted himself as an able administrator, whether it was during my tenure as Security Advisor or before it.

"My observation is that when things like riots, terrorism, natural calamities, etc. happen then sometimes the administration or the Government gets stupefied by it. In those circumstances the administration is not able to find an appropriate solution to the problem which leads to inordinate delays.

"This delay is sometimes used by the opposition parties to tarnish the image of the Government. Media also plays a negative role by being judgemental and describing those false statements by the opposition leaders or other people who are anti-Government, as facts. The allegations may be proved false later on but this false propaganda created through media initially, goes a long way in developing wrong perceptions about that Government or the leader and this happened with Mr Modi in 2002. Moreover, the stupefaction was compounded by the fact that Mr Modi was new to Chief Ministership.

"What I feel is, the media should not only behave as a critic of the Government all the times, they ought to sometimes understand the crisis situation for the Government and act as a supporting arm to it, which unfortunately media failed to do in 2002 vis-à-vis the Gujarat riots.From my first-hand experience of the Gujarat situation I can say with conviction that the Gujarat riots were not the failure of Mr Narendra Modi; instead it was the failure of the Gujarat Police as well as the intentions of the Chief Ministers of the neighbouring States which had then denied forces to Gujarat when the riots started."

For more than 50 years now Tamilnadu has been ruled by either one of the Dravidian parties, with the national parties partnering along with them for their fortunes in the State Assembly.

26^th September 2013, Trichy saw a crowd of around 4 lakh citizen’s from across Tamilandu attending the ‘Ilam Thamarai Manadu’ (Young Lotus Conference) – a meeting organised by Tamilandu Bharatiya Yuva Morcha(BJYM). Of course the Hero of the show was Thiru. Narendra Bhai Modi , whose presence made all the difference.

The people of Tamilandu have realised that Dravidian movement and its parties have only been sharing power among themselves for 50 yrs, but has not developed the state and its citizen.

The major change we felt sitting part of the dedicated crowds was electrifying. They listened to Rajnath Singh ji speaking in Hindi & though it was translated by H.Raja, there was not a murmur of protest.

The final speaker being Narendra Bhai Modi, there was pin drop silence when he spoke, First a few sentences in Tamil, when the crowd roared , then in English, but then when he started addressing in Hindi, there was pin drop silence, attentively listened, though they did not understand the language, seems the understood the content. Again the whole speech was translated by Shri.H.Raja, who did accomplishing the task.

When Narendra Bhai questioned them ‘Whether PM Should enter into dialogue with Pakistan, when our Jawans were being killed by Pakistani Soliders’, the crowd in unison chanted ‘NO’. And the climax was ‘Vande Mataram’ Chant, the reverberating sound should have reached all the divisive interests.

This is the first time if I remember right , the people of Tamilnadu were addressed by a National leader in Hindi, even Shri.Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had spoken in English.

Change is imminent in any society, Tamilnadu having been under the spell of Dravidian movement for over 50 years, whose citizen’s had been forced ‘oppose’ Hindi to isolate them from Nationalist thinking , have now decided to be part of their Proud Nation Bharat. Change is visible to all, the need to galvanize these voices into votes and elected members who will deliver for the citizen.

The coming months and the 2014 elections will be very interesting in Tamilnadu. There is huge undercurrent which is consolidating the Voter to the development plank of Shri.Narendra Bhai Modi

Now the biggest question arises, Is the TN BJP leadership ready to be part of the change? Have they understood the aspirations of the people of Tamilnadu? Do they have a strong second, third rung of leadership and highly committed cadre to address this change? Or Will the State leaders in the party be satisfied to play second fiddle to the Dravidian Parties?

Citizen’s are ready, its upto TNBJP to reciprocate or ignore the signals.

Government of Pondicherry , its Dept. of Revenue & Disaster Management through their Extraordinary Gazette No. 7052/DCE/T(P)/AUC/2013-14(1). dt. 3rd June 2013 promulgated to auction those licenses which were renewed for the period 1/7/2013 to 30/6/2014. Thanks to vigilant groups, it has been highlighted that 19 shops are in temple lands. The temple lands have been leased out by HR&CE Department for operating Arrack & Toddy Shops. Thanks to Ranjit'ji who quickly compiled the list List of Shops with Details .

Shri.T.R.Ramesh (@TRRamesh) has already put in process to fight this legally.

Bharatiya we need all your support to stop such sacrilege's against Temples, hurting billions of Hindu sentiments. These shops will be nuisance to the temple worshipers & this will be used by greedy ones to occupy the land.

Equality to all or Brahmin Bashing - Justice Party –Tamilnadu

Justice Party founded in 1916 in Madras presidency were the founding fathers of Dravidian Movement . The Justice Party was founded on the principles of fighting against Brahmin Community, as the Brahmins were employed in the Government & purported to be controlling the governance, subduing the other communities.

Why were Brahmins employed in the Government? After losing out on their traditional profession’s, in the aftermath of Mughal Invasion & devastation of Temples, was patronized by the Hindu Rulers till the Hindu Rulers were also dismembered by the English Imperialists. The Brahmins had no other profession & survival was through a job by undergoing English education, the affluent of the Brahmins entered professional courses, becoming Lawyers/Doctors. This was more of survival instinct prevalent in human.

Getting back to Justice Party, which was the start of Dravidian Movement in Tamilnadu, a few points which need to be stated, as they were stated to be the upholders of the right of suppressed communities of the society.

First & foremost any party the founders & its members will speak about the class constitution of the Political Party.

Founding Fathers of Justice Party :

“Sir” P. Thyagaraya Chettiar, “Rajah Sir” Annamalai Chettiar, “Rajah Sir” Muthiah Chettiar, “Sir” Pitie Rajan Pillai, and a host of others. Invariably all these were “knighted” by the British Crown even as the freedom fighters were fighting for freedom. ¹

King of Panagal, Popoli Raja, Chellapalli Kumara Raja, Tholprol Zamindar, Venkatagiri Raja, Elavarasanthal Zamindar, Uttukulli Zamindar, Singampatti Zamindar, Thothappa Naickunoor Zamindar, Kurvikullam Zamindar, Pudukottai Rajkumar were the frontline leaders.

In 1917, Chennai hosted the Justice Party meeting which was attended by the following Royals:

The above mentioned people belonged to strata of society which was not aware of the problems of the deprived class.

Is Vishwaroopam caught in political chessboard?

Chennai witnessed protests by TMMK-Muslim during the 2^nd Week of September 2012 . The protests were directed at the US Embassy and against the Movie produced in USA. The protests continued for few days, on 19^th September 2012 it turned violence, the protests were organized by TMMK & 20 other Muslim outfits including Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi whose leader is an MP & close to UPA Chairperson through DMK Supremo.

TN political situation is witnessing a change, recently PMK –An OBC party, started a movement to consolidate the OBC’s in the state.

The ‘Political Chanakya’ of DMK has chance of losing his traditional voters to ADMK, other parties due family feuds & corruption issue. VCK as a party is also fast losing its credibility due to violent protests, attacks & highly critical comments on other communities.

Enter Vishwaroopam, movie based on Af-Pak, obviously portraying Jihad. Kamalhassan has scripted, Directed & Acted in the movie. All seemed to be well till he planned to preview the movie through DTH in India, few hours before it hit the cinema. The Cinema owners in TN, who have always been organized very well opposed the DTH preview. There was also news that DTH providers could not effectively market the movie. At last Kamal Hassan decided to release the movie on 23^rd Jan 2013, in TN all through theatres & DTH simulataneously. At this juncture another Muslim outfit called Tamilnadu Thouheed Jamat (TNJT) & other groups protested against portraying of Muslims as terrorists in the Movie, submitted petition to ban the movie. The TN Govt. banned the movie for 15 days, after which most of us have been following the news about Vishwaroopam, huge amount of support from all sides for KamalHassan. As usual the TN Govt. led by Jayalalitha has been at the receiving end from the film industry, opposition parties & general public. The usual rhetoric of JJ being arrogant, rumors of her banning the movie due to Kamal’s statement on PC, that Kamal had promised TV rights to Jaya TV, later sealed the deal with Vijay TV & more.

Media, Celebrities & prominent citizens have come down heavily on JJ, with all sort of remarks which we always hear when she is the CM.

Now there are two possibilities, First –Lift the ban.

All the media, Film industry and Rights folks will be happy. Movie will be screened, Muslim outfits will protest & mostly turn violent. Police may have to use force to control the riots/mobs, which in turn to more virulent campaign & may become a Law & Order issue. Don’t be surprised if the same protests are synchronized across India. JJ losses vote bank, LS

Second possibility, continue with the ban, keep the protestors at bay, but the whole film industry, media & Rights folk will keep hollering of their ‘Artisitic’ Rights being suppressed.

Both the possibilities will not be favorable for Jayalalitha. Either way she gets the end of the stick.

Who can script such an episode? If anyone in India can, it can be one & Only ‘Political Chanakya’ .

VCK is part of DMK alliance with Cong in UPA. VCK instigates the Muslim Organizations, this is a double edged sword for JJ. Have to handle with care.

Ban the movie –All of our activists, Film industry, common man blame JJ of being arrogant, stifling democracy.

Screen the movie- JJ can be dismissed for Law & order, action against minority groups & loss of Vote bank during LS 2014.

Kamal Hassan is enacting the script very well, after he is ‘Ulaga Nayagan’.

This is my perception, love the brickbats.

Maithri Educational Centre

Maithri Educational Centre is a Maithri Educational and Charitable Trust’s students initiative, mentored by Shri. R.Shreedhar, founder Trustee of Maithri Trust. It has been a practice in Maithri Trust, to monitor the scores of the students sponsored by the Trust. Students would provide a photocopy of the marksheets whenever they used to visit Shri.Shreedhar, to collect their term fees. Couple of years back Shri.Shreedhar found that the scoring was low, even with bright students, this prompted him to think of coaching students. The 1^st Step towards it was to get the students who were to appear for Board Exams (Xth & XIIth), to appear, write model exams which could expose them to the actual pattern of Board Exams. The same was discussed with Maithri Trust senior student’s undergoing their College studies, who readily helped in preparing the Question papers, Answer sheets, which would resemble the examination pattern. They took interest in designing the Question papers with their recent experience of having undergone the Board Exams. The prospective students were made to appear for these model exams, and feedback was provided by the senior students on areas of improvement, presentation during the Board exams including all minor details.

Was this enough for the students to score well in their Board Exams? Obviously this helped them to ease their tension, made them knowledgeable of the practices & could prepare a few important Questions, based on these efforts.

Shri.Shreedar was also worried that there were many students sponsored by the trust who were not able to cope up with the studies, few had social problems, could not concentrate, few were slow learners, but the school teachers had no time for individual attention to these kids. The next step was tuitions on Sundays for selected lot of students, who were taught by the Senior kids. This model then took shape into regular daily classes for trust students who were located in nearby locality & the senior students would coach them after their College hours (in the evenings). There was no mandatory fees for coaching, but based of affordability of the parents, they could contribute. The senior students were compensated from the fees amount, which was seen as an earning potential by the Senior students, ensuring their regular interests & not deviating into other activities after college hours. This also brought the pressure to perform with the Senior students all doing excellently well in their academics.

Maithri Education Centre, started 2 years back with around 11 students, 3 senior students who came to teach. This year the strength has grown to almost 60 students, with 13 Senior Students (5 of them are able to spare time only on Sundays) to coach. Most of the students are from Socially weaker class, they are very comfortable interacting the young people who coach them. The seniors also monitor each & every student, discuss their strengths, areas of improvement & even provide them with valuable advice in their daily life. Even the Senior students are confident about their livelihood after studies, as they develop Entrepreneurship qualities.

Maithri Model Examination 2012-13

Maithri Model Examination , conceptualized by Maithri Trust students at Maithri Educational Centre, under the mentorship of Shri.R.Shreedhar, founder Trustee of Maithri Trust, enters the 4^th Year in 2012-13. These Model Examinations are mainly conducted for the students who are preparing to appear for the Board Examinations in Std 10^th & Std 12^th , also Std 11^th who will be facing their common exams. The model exams are designed in similar lines to the Board Exams, mock Question papers & Answer sheets resembling the ones made available to them during the exams. These model exams help the students to overcome the fear due to board exams, the methodology of the exams themselves. These exams are conducted on Sundays three months prior to the Board Exams. The students feedback about these exams is that it has reduced their exam fear and manage time more efficiently. These exams have been beneficial for the students to identify their areas of improvement. The exams for the academic year 2012-2013 is scheduled from 23^rd of December. We wish to succeed this year also. The Model Exams are for Maithri Trust & Maithri Educational Centre students till this point of time.

Beware of quoting PAN for Railway Tatkal Bookings

BE CAREFUL WHILE QUOTING PAN ON BOOKING TATKAL TICKETS!

Advice your tax payers not to quote PAN for railway tatkal bookings
Indian Railways(IR) Displaying confidential Tax Payers information

*PAN as identity proof for Tatkal bookings*
IR has started collecting PAN and other specified identity information insupport of tatkal bookings as per recent direction and displaying PAN alongwith name, sex and age of reserved passengers on the reservation
charts pasted on to the railway compartments.

*A boon for benami transactions*
Finance Act 2012 has made it mandatory for certain traders like jewellerydealers to collect tax (TCS) from customers on purchase of jewellery worth Rs.2 lakhs and above. While complying with TCS rules for collection,
payment and uploading of TCS information (Efiling of TDS returns) jewellery dealers have to furnish PAN of customers. For Certain customers it is not convenient to provide PAN as they may have constraints in explaining source (black money earned through corruption, undeclared incomes etc.,) and in such cases to accommodate high networth customers, the traders have a easy source of benami PAN particulars like name, sex and age from reserved railway compartments. Agents are paid Rs.10/- per for copying PAN particulars alongwith name, age and sex pasted on to the reserved compartments . These persons are copying selected PAN information of senior citizens, women etc., only from sleeper class with the intention that passengers in sleeper class are not serious tax payers and generally salaried class.

*Impact on traders:*
Traders providing wrong particulars of PAN are penalised with Rs.10000 for violation of furnishing wrong particulars. Traders can always say that the have accepted the PAN particulars on the face value as there is no
condition for the traders to collect xerox copy of PAN card at the time of sale of jewellery. In how may cases till now income tax department has penalised traders submitting wrong particulars of PAN. Afterall Income Tax
department wants taxes. This is known to the department only in case of long drawn dispute by the PAN holder. Generally these disputes are settled after 2 years.

*Impact on PAN holders who is a tax payer:*
This is known only to the regular tax payers, who regularly check their tax credit on form 26 AS provided by the Income Tax department on their website. This form 26 AS is updated only on filing of etds returns by
traders. There is almost 6 - 12 months time for the PAN holder to known that a transaction of above nature has taken place on his name and only if he goes through form 26 AS. On noticing the tax credit of above nature
while reconciling form 26 AS for tax credits for filing the return during subsequent financial year i.e July/September, the tax payer has an option to exclude the same and go ahead in filing the return. In that case the department will first initiate action from the tax payer side asking him to prove that he has not carried on the above transaction. The onus lies on the genuine tax payer for the fault committed by the traders. All this
dispute settlement takes a time more than 2 years. The department may also ask the genuine tax payer to explain the sources of above transaction.

*Impact on PAN holders who is a not tax payer:*
This is not known to the non tax payer/filler at all and he comes know only when the tax department issues a notice to explain the source of above transaction. This is a long drawn process by which only genuine public are
scapegoat again and again and intelligent business man and corrupt people are free from all hassles.

Wayout
The IR should stop publishing confidential tax particulars on the reservation charts that are displayed on the railway compartments. Further Tax department should put a rule that while quote the PAN the traders/dealers have to mandatory collect self attested pan xerox copy to avoid unnecessary litigation to the genuine public.
Public should quote their PAN only while dealing in mandatory financial transactions and avoid quoting the same for identity proof.
This is communicated to all in the larger interest of public, railways, and tax department.

Numerous Numbers, One Citizen

This post was initiated due to my fathers persistent phone calls to enroll the whole of the family in UID. He has been behind me for the last 3 weeks, even told my daughter that her father was not responsible & he should immediately apply for UID.

Well when he mentioned UID, the 1st thing i did was download the form. A single sheet with very simple inputs, Part C mentions that i could link my existing bank account 'and i have no objection to the issue' - Now this made me think, are these forms of developed by people who wants to create a Central Repository with biometric, et al. This looks like a local finance company trying to woo depositors with high interest rate & sure of closing down when the time comes.

UID, if I remember right, was started in the lines of Social Security No. in USA, our ' IT leaders' saw this as a great opportunity to ensure our citizens are all listed & Social cover provided with no leakages, directly linking bank accounts of beneficiary.

NREGA for the last few years have expended close to more than 1 lac Cr. but less than 2 lac Cr., Other welfare schemes of UPA would have been worth another 1 lac Cr., (conservative estimate).

As a citizen of this 'Growing' Bharat, I have 'PAN Card'-IT dept, A Bank Account No., Voters ID-'Election Commission No.', Driving Licence No. , Passport No., PDS card. Have tried & listed 6 of them, but we might have more depending on the geography.

Bharat GDP flourished on Services sector for the last decade- 2000-2010, which includes IT sector, our society has enjoyed the benefits of IT revolution, our Middle class has grown because of this class. We are most sought after IT professionals in the world as of date. Does that also mean that our IT companies use these resource to make huge profits? We have a huge resource available in IT industry, which could have been used by the Govt. of India.

Now wonder if 40k Cr. was available, could we have not computerized the census data?
Once the Census data, which is physically verified is computerized, could we not generate UID nos., to these people. Only wonder if we have sent govt. employees to verify data in each & every household, it could have been right if they also carried all the information which is required for the other departments.

UID is just another ploy by this Government to use Nitin N, as he was wasted by his own company, today they are commanding situations to fool people. UID is an exercise just to transfer the Treasury money from central to these cards/bank accounts, purely for VOTE BANK POLITICS.

Foreign funds to Evangelists-Analysis

Welcome to 2011 CE/AD, as this is my first post for the year. This particular analysis has been in my mind for some months now. There are detailed analysis can be found http://bit.ly/gHjhWt & good amount of posts in hosts of other sites. I just wanted to highlight few points from the MHA report

1. In 2007-08 the amount received through Foreign funds reported to MHA is 9663.64 Cr.

2. Of the Top 10 recipients except Shri Gajanam Maharaj Sansthan, Maharashtra & Mata Amritanandmayi Math, Kerala rest are all Christian Missionaries in different names.

3. Top 3 expenses reported by the recipients was 'Establishment Expenses'-35%, 'Rural Development'-18% & ' 'Relief/Rehabilitation of victims of natural calamities'-17% - So almost 1/3rd of the money is used to buy property, build buildings and other establishment expenses. Rural Development & Relief work is just conversion in the rural areas.

4.Rest of the works mentioned in the Top15 purposes are children Welfare, including Maintenance of priests/ preachers/other religious functionaries.- Hence only 35% of the money is spent on more than 12 purposes.

5. The MHA report mentios of Donor Country Purpose wise detailsfor 2007-08, Out of 63 Purposes mentioned the top purpose mentioned is quite surprisingly 'Activities other than those mentioned below'-15% of the funds & the bottom purpose is 'Welfare of SC/ST'-.25%

6.The MHA report mentions that total of 18,796 organisations have reported to them, out of which the following table will throw light on their Capitalization.

This table illustrates from 2001-2008, except for 2007-2008 there has been a steady increase in No. of Associations. The reduction during 2007-08, can be attributed to the recession in general.

7. The inflows pattern for 10 yr period is as per given table.

If one notes the pattern during the NDA period the fund flow increase was in the range of 1.17% - 15.56%, but from 2004 there seems a sudden increase of fund flow. Was there any specific reason for the sudden fund flow during the UPA period.

Though we are all aware of the onslaught of the Chritian Economic Aggression,there is a renewed agenda of Vatican to subdue our Native culture, which has always courageously withstood the onslaught. Their claims to help the Tribals is all farce.

A true story... A conversation between a passenger and Software Engineer in Shatabdi Train. Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man. Even the plush comfort of the Air-conditioned compartment of the Shatabdi express could not cool his frayed nerves. He was the Project Manager and was still not entitled to Air travel. It was not the prestige he sought, he had tried to reason with the admin person, it was the savings in time. As PM, he had so many things to do!!

He opened his case and took out the laptop, determined to put the time to some good use.

'Are you from the software industry sir,' the man beside him was staring appreciatively at the laptop.

Vivek glanced briefly and mumbled in affirmation, handling the laptop now with exaggerated care and importance as if it were an expensive car. '

You people have brought so much advancement to the country, Sir. Today everything is getting computerized. ' 'Thanks,' smiled Vivek, turning around to give the man a look. He always found it difficult to resist appreciation.

The man was young and stockily built like a sportsman. He looked simple and strangely out of place in that little lap of luxury like a small town boy in a prep school. He probably was a railway sportsman making the most of his free traveling pass. '

You people always amaze me,' the man continued, 'You sit in an office and write something on a computer and it does so many big things outside.' Vivek smiled deprecatingly. Naiveness demanded reasoning not anger. 'It is not as simple as that my friend. It is not just a question of writing a few lines. There is a lot of process that goes behind it.' For a moment, he was tempted to explain the entire Software Development Lifecycle but restrained himself to a single statement. 'It is complex, very complex.' 'It has to be. No wonder you people are so highly paid,' came the reply. This was not turning out as Vivek had thought. A hint of belligerence crept into his so far affable, persuasive tone. 'Everyone just sees the money. No one sees the amount of hard work we have to put in. Indians have such a narrow concept of hard work. Just because we sit in an air-conditioned office, does not mean our brows do not sweat. You exercise the muscle; we exercise the mind and believe me that is no less taxing.'

He could see, he had the man where he wanted, and it was time to drive home the point. 'Let me give you an example. Take this train. The entire railway reservation system is computerized. You can book a train ticket between any two stations from any of the hundreds of computerized booking centers across the country. Thousands of transactions accessing a single database, at a time concurrently; data integrity, locking, data security. Do you Understand the complexity in designing and coding such a system?' The man was awestruck; quite like a child at a planetarium. This was something big and beyond his imagination.

'You design and code such things.' 'I used to,' Vivek paused for effect, 'but now I am the Project Manager.' 'Oh!' sighed the man, as if the storm had passed over, 'so your life is easy now.' This was like the last straw for Vivek. He retorted, 'Oh come on, does life ever get easy as you go up the ladder.

Responsibility only brings more work. Design and coding! That is the easier part. Now I do not do it, but I am responsible for it and believe me, that is far more stressful. My job is to get the work done in time and with the highest quality'. He continued, 'To tell you about the pressures, there is the customer at one end, always changing his requirements, the user at the other wanting something else, and your boss, always expecting you to have finished it yesterday.' Vivek paused in his diatribe, his belligerence fading with self-realization. What he had said, was not merely the outburst of a wronged man, it was the truth. And one need not get angry while defending the truth.

My friend,' he concluded triumphantly, 'you don't know what it is to be in the Line of Fire'.

The man sat back in his chair, his eyes closed as if in realization. When he spoke after sometime, it was with a calm certainty that Surprised Vivek. 'I know sir,..... I know what it is to be in the Line of Fire......' He was staring blankly, as if no passenger, no train existed, just a vast expanse of time. 'There were 30 of us when we were ordered to capture Point 4875 in the cover of the night. The enemy was firing from the top. There was no knowing where the next bullet was going to come from and for whom. In the morning when we finally hoisted the tri-colour at the top only 4 of us were alive.'

'You are a...?'

'I am Subedar Sushant from the 13 J&K Rifles on duty at Peak 4875 in Kargil. They tell me I have completed my term and can opt for a soft assignment. But, tell me sir, can one give up duty just because it makes life easier. On the dawn of that capture, one of my colleagues lay injured in the snow, open to enemy fire while we were hiding behind a bunker.

It was my job to go and fetch that soldier to safety. But my captain sahib refused me permission and went ahead himself. He said that the first pledge he had taken as a Gentleman Cadet was to put the safety and welfare of the nation foremost followed by the safety and welfare of the men he commanded; his own personal safety came last, always and every time.' 'He was killed as he shielded and brought that injured soldier into the bunker.

Every morning thereafter, as we stood guard, I could see him taking all those bullets, which were actually meant for me. I know sir....I know, what it is to be in the Line of Fire.' Vivek looked at him in disbelief not sure of how to respond. Abruptly, he switched off the laptop. It seemed trivial, even insulting to edit a Word document in the presence of a man for whom valour and duty was a daily part of life; valour and sense of duty which he had so far attributed only to epical heroes. The train slowed down as it pulled into the station, and Subedar Sushant picked up his bags to alight. 'It was nice meeting you sir.' Vivek fumbled with the handshake. This hand... had climbed mountains, pressed the trigger, and hoisted the tri-colour.

Suddenly, as if by impulse, he stood up at attention and his right hand went up in an impromptu salute.... It was the least he felt he could do for the country.

PS : The incident he narrated during the capture of Peak 4875 is a true-life incident during the Kargil war. Capt. Batra sacrificed his life while trying to save one of the men he commanded, as victory was within sight. For this and various other acts of bravery, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the nation's highest military award. Live humbly, there are great people around us, let us learn!

Pranaam, Bharathvaasi, for the last 3 days i have questioned all my friends, acquaintance, n tweeted on this subject, everyone seems to be silent, no answers available. Can we seriously understand that this is a very important phenomenon which has erupted, convert for status and money, reconvert for Quota, when someone exposes, everyone is lost for answers, even the best of legal luminaries.

Searching for answers i questioned a lot of elder Govt. Staff, they say this is the way of life in cornering Quotas.

My post below is about instances from the day of suspension to the day of reinstatement of service. The sequence is very clear, this IAS officer writes to All India Confederation of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Organisations and they have supported him. But this officer plainly says his faith is with Jesus, then he deserves to be punished for the bogus certificate,maybe. Request all legal luminaries to comment and take action on such people who are misusing the Quota regime. Quota is to help the deprived, socially and thereby economically, but such Umashankers seem to have planned their progress through system of deceit. Should We allow abdicate them of mis-using the system?

The State government on Thursday night revoked the suspension of senior IAS officer C Umashankar and posted him as managing director of Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation (TANSI). When contacted, Umashankar said, "The victory goes to Jesus Christ. I have put my full faith in Jesus Christ and the Lord has delivered me from the crisis. I thank all the newspapers, especially the New Indian Express, which stood by my side at the time of crisis. I thank all the Dalit organisations, Left parties, AIADMK and the PMK for supporting my cause."

Umashankar dares to prove charges against him 04 Sep 2010

Giving details about his community certificate, Umashankar said until he completed his SSLC, he was known as C Asoke and his caste was Pallan (Scheduled Caste). But in 1984, his father got him reconverted to Hinduism with the name Umashankar. “All legal processes have been done and my reconversion was notified in the Gazettee as well,” he said and pointed out that only the UPSC or the Government of India can refer my community certificate for clarification and not the State government because I am not an employee of the State government. The SC had laid down clear-cut rulings in this regard.” He also observed his community certificate was verified twice before and after he assumed charge as an IAS officer and the UPSC had found it valid.

Stating that even today, an inquiry was going on in his native (Tirunelveli), he said a senior leader in the State directed one of the committee members to give a report against him. However, he declined to reveal the name of the leader.

Umashankar said he was given very short notice - just three days - to physically present himself before the inquiry panel and warned that an ex-parte decision would be taken if he failed to do so. As long as the committee’s proceedings were against the law, he would not attend it,

Umashankar said. “By law, I am a Hindu till now. But by faith, I am Christian. The transformation took place two years ago when I faced a crisis,” he clarified. Asked whether it was right to approach political parties being a government servant, he stoutly denied it saying, “I did not approach any political party and their statements supporting me were spontaneous.”

This week was filled with mixed news on highly emotional issues like TOI news which really hurt lots of Hindus, Home minister blabbering about 'Saffron Terrorism' at the meetings of top Police officers in the country, then addressing the same audience our PM mentioned about 'Non State Actors' involved in India. Both the PM and HM seems to have some agenda when they uttered these words, its not a natural utterance, but planned words properly placed in front of an apt audience. Now in tandem the TN CM mentioned while meeting police officials, that they should ensure that no one should complain of police excess since elections were around the corner and opposition was playing mischief against his Govt. Well something extraordinary happened, the whole media beamed the crown prince Raul's visit to Odisha to address the tribals, denying Vedanta group mining at the same time projecting himself as the saviour of the tribals. Well the media discussed the whole issue in length for days. Even BDutt made her intentions very clear by supporting the separatist, stifling the voice of Nationalist Kashmiris. All these and few more things of course the Spice Bollywood covered by media.

But no media reported on the ongoing intrusion of china in Gilgit-Balitastan bordering LOC, of course invited by their partners in progress Pakistan and an vital area of concern for our Nation. Today Dada mentioned this on tweet and thanks to Sathyabhasham for the link, i will re produce a portion of the article in Forbes.

We as responsible citizens of our Nation, who uphold our Dharma, has to unify & act against these Pseudo Secular politics & media. With unrest, mob violence becoming the order of the day, these two articles become quite relevant...

There are over 30 mln Bangladeshi illegal infiltrators living in various parts of India especially in the capital city Delhi and other places. In Mumbai alone there are over 90,000 Pakistan is illegally living there. All these are hosted by their co-religionists and protected and courted by vote-hunting “secular” parties.Many of them have gained ration cards and entered into electoral rolls. As though to finally make them citizens of this country, as never before, the Census of India 2011 has planned to have a National Population Register (NPR). The instructions to the enumerator say that the place of birth as well as nationality as stated by the person should be accepted without any question. Also any person who has lived more than 6 months before the time of enumeration and who intends to live for more than 6 months after enumeration, is entitled to be enlisted in the NPR. This NPR will be the basis for giving the Unique Identification number as per the grand project of the GOI. Now what will happen is based upon this UID and NPR the illegal residents of India will be enabled to get citizenship of this country . This is going to be a disaster for the country. The UPA-2 government is conferring citizenship to all the illegal Bangladeshi & Pakistani Muslim infiltrators. Adding to the furious proliferation by having the large number of children, the legalized illegals will swell the ranks of Muslims and their population ratio may rise from the preindependence level of 10% to over 25%.Can there be any act which can be more detrimental and opposed to the interest of this country?

Dr. Ambedkers Warning

Reproduced below is a part of the speech that Dr Ambedkar delivered just before the Constitution of India was adopted. He feared that India would be losing freedom by the unpatriotic and treacherous actions of its own people in places of power. In a way Vande Mataram is very fortunate. In the sense that it has received the divine touch of numerous masters of the Indian Music, as singers and composers. Its first public performance was staged at the 12th Congress convention. Audience was simply delighted to hear the self-composed tune sung by Rabindranath Tagore. In 1904, the first gramophone record in Rabindranath's voice came in the market. Meanwhile the agitation against Bengal started. Anticipating trouble and the ban on the song, it was timely sent to Paris. A French record company 'Pathe' again published it. It was a pantograph type of record.

In 1901 during the Congress Vande Mataram was sung by Dakshinarajan Sen, with his own composition. Yet another name to get associated with the song was Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, he was catching the mood of the poem while singing. His composition of Vande Mataram was most adored by Mahatma Gandhi. Pandit Paluskar shined on the Indian political scenario, with a particular incident associated with Vande Mataram. The year was 1933. He was about to start the recital of Vande Mataram, as per the usual convention in the Kakinada Congress. Just when he was about to start the presiding authority of the Congress, Maulana Ahmed Ali tried to stop him, supported by his brother Shaukat Ali. 'Since the song praised Hinduism' according to them, it should not be sung on this dais was what they said. Reacting very strongly Pandit Paluskar made them hear that this is a public meeting and not the place of worship of the Muslim religion. Those who object may very well leave the convention and abort, Panditji said, and thereafter rehearsed the full song. It is rather unusual for an artist to involve himself in the chores of political battle, but this courage was shown by Pandit Paluskar. He had composed the song in Raga'Kafi'.

One more composition in the Raga Kafi, which rose to fame, was composed by another maestro- Pandit Omkarnath Thakur. He was firm in his opinion and advocated the full recital of Vande Mataram . He stopped appearing in the Congress convention when by bowing down to Muslim League demands, the song was split.

Later in 1947, it was Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel, India's iron man who invited him to sing it on Akashwani (All India Radio), on the dawn of Independence. And thereby, on the 15th of August 1947, at 6:30 a.m. the country could hear the deep voice of Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, reciting the unabridged, full version of India's march song -Vande Mataram in full form. In the studio Thakur sang it in the standing position.

During 1935 to 1952, many senior music composers composed the song. This included Keshavrav Bhole-the Marathi stage actor, Vishnupant Pagnis (sung in Raga Saranga) . But typically noteworthy amongst them are Master Krishnarao Fulambrikar and V.D. Ambhaikar and Dilipkumar Roy. Although each one had his own versions, their greatness lies further in the fact that these are the composers, who relentlessly tried for the song, to acquire the status of National Anthem.

V. D. Ambhaikar hailing from Nagpur, was also an active freedom fighter. In 1926, at the age of 14 he recited his version in front of Mahatma Gandhi at Nagpur. Subsequently his audience for the song included Pt. Rajendra Prasad, Vallabhabhai Patel, etc. after independence Kakasaheb Gadgil a veteran Congress leader, had arranged for a demonstrating recital of Vande Mataram, sung by Mr. Ambhaikar. The audience included the members of the committee on constitution, along with prominent leaders like Acharya Govind Vallabh Pant, Dr. Pattabhi Sitarammayya, Achraya Dada Dharmadhikari etc. it also included Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar who appreciated the composition and told Mr. Ambhaikar, "I would be the first person to buy your LP record whenever it comes up." Only Acharya Kriplani was reserved and opined that the final verdict will be given only by Pandit Nehru. Thereafter the same version was sung by Mogubai Kardikar- a senior singer of India. The composition starts from, 'Taar Shadja' and is composed in 'Mishra Khambavati' .

Another contributor composer, who tried to influence the leaders, was Timir Baran Bhattacharya. He composed Vande Mataram in Raga Durga, which was played later on the British bands. The composition resembles to that of a 'march song' and the same was broadcasted from Singapore radio by Netaji Bose, after he formed Azad Hind Sena. Another composition which has retained it's popularity is the one composed by the great music director, Hemantkumar. It was prepared for the movie 'Anandmath' released by Filmistan in 1952. It meticulously combines, Malakansa, Bhairavi etc. resembling rather an inspirational song for the warriors. Talking of music composers who relentlessly tried a status of National Anthem, another prominent personality should be remembered- Dilipkumar Roy. While strongly advocating such a status, he presented his composition on29th August 1927, in front ofMahatma Gandhi and earned his praise. He has two recordings to his credit. One which he himself has sung resembles the folk music of Bengal and Assam-folklore of the mountain ranges. Other record has a duet sung with a senior South Indian Singer, M.S.Subbalaxmi,combining notes from Raga Bilawal, Bageshwari and certain other Ragas in the Karnatak style.

Last in the line but never the least comes the contribution of Master Krishnarao Fulambrikar. History will remember him as the lone warrior, the solo performer in the battle of Vande Mataram to achieve status of National Anthem. It is an unique example how the Indian academic city of Pune can produce determined individuals who could pursue a single aim, single handedly.

As the vocalist actor during 1935 Master Krishnarao had earned best of the popularity. He was one of the trusted team members of Prabhat Studios. His composition in the Raga Zinzoti was suitable to be rehearsed even by a large gathering together. Attempts were on for it's broadcast from All India Radio. However, strangely enough, all singing of Vande Mataram was banned from AIR. After enough patient waiting during one of his recitals of Indian Classical Music, he adjoined certain notes in Mishra Zinzoti and suddenly reverted back to Vande Mataram's tune. Station director Mr. Z.A. Bukhari immediately cut off the power supply of Krishnarao's microphone. This event was criticized enough in the next day's paper and all over India. As a mark of protest Master Krishnarao banned all his recitals from Radio. Until it was in 1947, an auspicious day of Chaitra Padawa, he sang the full version of Vande Mataram in the presence of the same station director Bukhari, on a special request from VallabhbhaiPatel, again.

However he was so inspired to have Vande Mataram as the anthem, he left no stone unturned. Those days composers, musicians beyond a point never involved themselves in controversies or political shadow downs. It was only Krishnarao Fulambrikar'sunadulterated faith, which resulted in logical and persistent efforts. To prove that a large public gathering can sing it together he sang it by a large audience of 50,000 people in Pune. On the 25th August 1948, Pandit Nehru expressed his reservations about the song in parliament- about the song's worthiness as a march song and a difficulty, which could be faced by foreign band troops in playing it. Added to it were the praises for Jana Gana Mana.

This irked Mr. Fulambrikar. He telegraphed the Prime Minister about hearing him at least once. Till Nehru's answer came Master Krishnarao practiced the steps, of the marching at the police grounds along with the policemen, while the composition was being played. This ascertained the fact that it can be best of the 'march songs.' Also to counter the argument, that the foreign band troops should easily be able to play it, he consulted the chief of the British Police Band-Mr.C.R.Gardner. He in turn with the help of British Naval Band Chief, Stanely Bills, rehearsed it on the brass instruments on the British Naval Band. Both the foreigners immediately gave their positive opinions that it was suitable to be played on the 'foreign' instruments and certified this opinion in writing.

All these evidences eventually were presented by Master Krishnarao in front of the members of the constitutional committee, and of course Pandit Nehru. He had, infact, 3 different recordings for this as evidence. One version as a march song, other version as a general welcome for any leader and the third as his composition for it to be the National Anthem. So also, he handed over the letters by the chief of the British Police and Naval Band. Even Pandit Nehru could not help admiring this effort. He affectionately put his hand on Master Krishnarao's shoulder and declared that here is a composer who will be regarded as the 'march song' composer of Independent India. Even then, in his mind, he was fully convinced about Jana Gana Mana.

On 17th January 1950, in a press conference, Master Krishnarao demonstrated his versions. Many of the members of Parliament applauded it. However on 24th January 1950 the committee for constitution, in a totally one sided verdict declared (by Dr. Rajendra Prasad) Jana Gana Mana as the official National Anthem and Vande Mataram to enjoy the status of 'equal' to anthem but a 'National Song.'Well,for Master Krishnarao not the entire efforts were in vain. Had he not attempted till this level, even the status of National Song for Vande Mataram would be distinct, nearing to impossible. So his attempts are worthy of the highest praise.

Bandh in Bharath- Do we require them??

Tomorrow the BJP has announced Bharat Bandh-maybe a few states will call for total closure of its establishments. The bandh is attributed towards fuel price increase by the Government. But it is quite surprising that Bandh which was a mainstream affair by the Congress movement against erstwhile British empire has lost its effect on the common man. The common man 37% of them BPL & the rest of the working class depending on daily wages will be at loss. Who will compensate these families? Political parties are only announcing Bandh's to earn coverage in MSM media, mostly which is suppressed by the current English MSM's.

Our Nation is getting nowhere with Bandh & Hartals, our political party leaders who are all old enough to quit, should think better to create opinion against Government policies. Is there no other alternative, in Japan protest was overworking, hence additional production. Our political leaders have to understand that these Bandh's are only hardship's on millions of public who are out at work, travelling through the country on their official line of work. Millions of labourers would not earn their daily wages, leading to loss of their basic Roti. Indirectly the Government also looses revenue which in turn translates to higher prices. Even the BJP once in while wakes up to inflation, they need to evolve an study paper to reduce inflation, corner the Government with fool proof plans instead of enforcing hardships on common man. No political party has any roadmap for better governance which can bring down inflation, boost agriculture, instead everyone wishes to take on the other with Bandh's. Pity for Bharath Vaasi.... Wake up Bharath Vaasi and challenge this vacuum in Governance.
