You can use a smartphone for years and not learn all of its tricks. That's why the Brighthand staff has put together this list of the ten most useful features of Apple's smartphone that most people probably aren't aware of.

10. You can take a picture using the headphone cord. Ever want to get a bit father away from the camera when taking a self portrait? Everyone should know that you can snap a picture with your iPhone by pressing the Volume Up button, but few people realize this works with the volume buttons built into the headphones, too.

9. The Lock Screen isn't really locked. Even without unlocking your device you can do quite a bit. Tap and hold on the Home button and you'll bring up Siri. Double tap the Home button and audio controls will appear. And, of course, a camera button was added to the Lock Screen in iOS 5.1.

8. You can tap and hold in the Calendar to add events. The + button is always there, of course, but if you are in the Day view it's much quicker to press on the hour you want the event to appear, as that will cause an event to be created at that time.

7. Some people complain that Apple's smartphone doesn't have an LED to flash to silently notify you of an incoming call or an alarm going off, a standard feature on most off this device's competitors. Actually it does: the camera flash can be set to take care this task. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > LED Flash for Alerts.

6. You can immediately jump to the top of a long web page, email, document, etc. If you've scrolled down, down, down to the end of a page and want to go back to the top, tap on the clock at the top of the screen. You'll be taken right to the beginning.

The producers of Nigerian idol, have announced afrobeat maestro, Femi Kuti, as a judge for the third season of the high flying music reality show. It is not clear if the three-time Grammy Award nominee, has been brought on board to replace Charly Boy, whose presence on the show has not been confirmed.

“We keep bringing in new twists and turns to make the show more interesting, two brand new cities made the audition train and most exciting is our own living legend, three-time Grammy nominee and Afrobeat king Femi Kuti as one of our judges,” Tiwa Medubi said in a statement.

Femi Kuti, expressed his happiness, at being chosen. “An opportunity to be able to impart on the lives of the future of Nigerian music is one I will never say no to,” he said.

Samsung-Galaxy Nexus Ban Overturned In US

The US Court of Appeals has overturned a ban on sales of Samsung's Galaxy Nexus phone, in a blow to Apple in the ongoing battle between the two rivals.
It said the district court in California, which had issued the ban in June, had "abused its discretion in entering an injunction".
Earlier this month, a sales ban on Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer in the US was also lifted.
The two firms are involved in a legal tussle over patent infringement claims.
Samsung welcomed the latest decision saying it "confirms that the role of patent law is to protect innovation and not to unreasonably stifle competition and restrict consumer choice".
"We will continue to take all appropriate measures to ensure the availability of our innovative products," the South Korean manufacturer said.

Slowing the competition?
The smartphone segment is one of the fastest growing sectors for phone manufacturers and Apple and Samsung are among the biggest players in the arena.
Apple, which makes the iPhone, was one of the early pioneers in the segment, while Samsung, which manufactures the Galaxy range of smartphones, has made rapid strides in the sector gaining a strong share of key global markets in recent years.
However, its success has coincided with a growing legal battle with Apple, spread across various countries.
Earlier this year, a California court awarded Apple $1.05bn (£652m) in damages, after ruling several of its software and design technologies had been infringed by Samsung.
Samsung has since challenged that verdict and called for a retrial.
Analysts said that given the tremendous growth potential of the sector, the legal battle between the two firms was likely to continue.
"The intensity of the competition is so high, that it is less about billions of dollars in fines but more about slowing the competition," Manoj Menon, managing director of Frost & Sullivan, told the BBC.
He explained that Apple feels that Samsung has infringed its patents, which it believes has played a role in Samsung's success.
"Apple will try and slow the rapid growth trajectory of Samsung," he said.
