Referrals

Due to a back log of referrals and the fact that WRS is closing down over Christmas, please note that any new clients referred to our service will not be contacted or assessed until the new year.

The dragon cometh!

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Well it’s been a long time coming but the Dragon finally made its debut… from the cosmos to Footscray Park, the dragon performed as part of the Big West Festival opening on Tuesday the 15^th of November.

I would like to acknowledge all the help and support out there over the duration of the project. Great work folks. It was fantastic!

Women's pamper holiday

While the Vietnamese dragon project is on the home straight, volunteer sewers are still needed to help dress him (or her) with scales. If you're interested in contributing to this "cosmic serpent collaboration", contact Dragon master Adam on 9391 0144.

Carer payment study

Carers Victoria are conducting a study exploring the difficulties experienced by carers in accessing carer payments/allowances. There are a number of ways to participate, including a 15 minute online survey; telephone interview or face to face interview. Those interested in participating should contact Penny Paul on 9396 9500.

Sewers wanted

Hi All,

Western Respite have been collaborating with Western RegionHealth and an associated Vietnamese community on making a Vietnamese Dragon.It’s a large scale project, we’ve had over 70 participants involved and we’regetting close to our deadline of November 15…we’vestill got plenty of work ahead of us! That’s the Big West Festival opening.

Arethere any keen sewers out there who might be interested in getting involvedwith sewing scales and facets of the head? Clients or staff are welcome, clientsand staff coming together are most welcome also. Ifyou’re not a sewer, don’t worry there’s some fun jobs printing too!

We have sewing machines at the Barkly Art Centre inFootscray or I can distribute some prepared scales (view photos attached) forthose of you who have sewing machines at home.

Please feel free to contact me if you’re interested. Would be great to get you involved!!

The WRS Women's pamper holiday is coming up in October. Apollo Bay will be the setting for this four day holiday (10 - 13) that gives our female clients the opportunity to be spoilt silly. If you're interested, give us a call and get your name down on the list.

Gardening group

The new gardening group will take place on Wednesday afternoons from 2 - 4PM. Feel free to drop in and get your hands dirty as often or as little as you like.
The next session will involve hitting the nurseries for specimens to fill our outdoor area with.

MAY Day trip to William Ricketts Sanctuary

Places are still available on the Ricketts Sanctuary day trip on the 5th May. Enjoy a walk through the bush and check out the amazing sculptures (Please note that the sanctuary is located in a national park, so be prepared to do some walking!).

New gardening group

WRS is now running a gardening group. While the majority of activities will revolve around maintaining our own garden, there will also be occasional day trips to relevant destinations.
