JAN MILES BOOTH 2/8/1952 – 2/25/2023 “FOR ME, TO LIVE IS CHRIST AND TO DIE IS GAIN.” (PHILIPPIANS 1:21, NIV) Jan was born to people who could not care for her and was lovingly adopted by Donald and Violet Miles. She shared her childhood with two adopted brothers: David, the older, and Rick, the younger. Jan often shared fond memories of her childhood and she deeply loved her brothers. Jan was raised to know God in a Catholic home and as a child, she would say she was going to be a nun when she grew up. However, she loved to share the story of her college roommate, Colleen introducing her to Jesus. After Jan met Jesus, she realized she could devote her life to His service without entering a convent! She went to college and then graduate school, earning her master’s degree in speech pathology. After graduating, she moved to Miles City, Montana where she met her husband, our father, Patrick Leo Booth. The two married March 31, 1979. I remember hearing the reason they chose that date was because they didn’t want to be married on April 1 and have their marriage be a joke! Shortly after they married, Pat’s job moved them to south Texas where Matthew Leo and I, Annamaria were both born. Jan devoted the early years of our lives to caring for us. When I was old enough, Jan re-entered the workforce and successfully juggled the demands of motherhood and her job. Together, with Pat, she raised us in church and supported every opportunity for us to pursue our interests in and out of school. Through the next three decades, Jan continued her life’s work in speech pathology and raised Matthew and I through our school years. Jan was a member of Westover Baptist Church in Tennessee and Ozark Mountain Community Church in Missouri where she served in both the libraries and choirs. She established meaningful friendships that proved the test of time and distance in both locations. Additionally, after retirement, she served her community by volunteering at the Blue Eye Elementary School. Sometime in 2012, Jan’s mental capacity began to shift. In the late spring of 2014, Jan was officially diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s Disease at 62. This diagnosis led to her early retirement. Pat was supportive and cared for Jan faithfully as her disease progressed. Then, in late August 2021 Jan was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in her lung which had metastasized to other parts of her body including her hip and brain. After a little over a year of treatment, Jan began expressing the desire to be finished. She had fought the good fight and she was tired. On January 26, our family experienced the shocking tragedy of Pat’s unexpected death. Matthew and I assumed care for Jan as Pat was her primary caregiver. Though the Alzheimer’s made it difficult for her to comprehend what had happened, her soul was aware, and she longed even more to go to her eternal home. Toward that end we decided to end Jan’s cancer treatment and put her in hospice care. After being in hospice for 12 days, Jan’s nurses grew concerned with her quick deterioration. Five days later, God took her home. Ever the public servant, Jan decided long ago to donate her body to science. In honor of that request, we have arranged for her body to be sent to the Medical Education and Research Institute through the Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation Foundation. Anyone who has ever met Jan described her as “sweet”. In fact, Pat had all but written off the idea of marriage until he met my mother. He decided she was “the sweetest woman I had ever met” and knew she would be the match for him. Jan was the best mother I could have ever asked for. She raised me to know God and she taught me what it looked like to serve. Her life was the picture of gracious faithfulness. In her last days, she would spontaneously sing several hymns. The chaplain at her care facility said the last song she ever sang with him was “Trust and Obey”. He said she sang every word. She was also a fervent prayer warrior, literally taking everything to God in prayer. In fact, one of her last intelligible words was, “Pray!”. Toward her final days of speaking, she requested prayer for her caregivers and those she loved. Often, when I wanted motherly wisdom as a teen, I would grow frustrated that she wouldn’t provide me with any sage words. Instead, she would humbly admit she didn’t know the answer and offer to pray for me. I now know, that was the wisest response she could provide. To me, Jan represents the woman in Proverbs 31: 28-29, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’” (NIV). My mama, Jan Booth, was an incredible woman who loved and served with her whole heart. Her light shined bright to the very end. My heart will miss her forever, but my soul rejoices that she suffers no more. This has taken some time to get to but wanted to inform any followers of Dads of his passing. We lost Dad 1/26/23 and are still trying to cope with and recover from this unexpected loss. The Penn Biden Center, located in Washington, DC, but part of the University of Pennsylvania, is where the first classified documents were found and tells only one part of a larger story of years-long Chinese infiltration of American institutions. On that front, China has been busy. They’ve been involved in setting up secret police stations in New York and LA, engaging in massive land buys in rural states, purchasing defunct and failing American college campuses, rolling out Confucius Institutes in colleges and k-12 schools, collecting user data on pervasive social media apps, seeking telecom dominance, moving fentanyl across the Southern border, and “gifting” millions to universities and policy-oriented think tanks. These things are documented, and are only what we know now. There could be – and likely will be -- more to come. Less understood is the Biden family’s role in helping China succeed in some of their endeavors, although that part of the story promises to play out over the next couple of years as the Oversight Committee begins its investigation. Rep James Comer(R-KY), new head of the committee, had been busy on this front even before his party won the House. So while the jury is still out as to what the Biden family was actually up to as it relates to China, reports indicate Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, may have had access to some of these newly-discovered classified documents while working for a Chinese energy firm (and behaving like a deranged dilettante). And, most importantly, that his father was in on the game. As Jonathan Turley put it: “Emails on Hunter’s laptop make repeated reference to not only Joe’s knowledge but efforts to hide his involvement. … Emails used code names for Joe Biden such as ‘Celtic’ or ‘the big guy.’ In one, ‘the big guy’ is mentioned as possibly receiving a 10% cut on a deal with a Chinese energy firm. There are also references to Hunter paying off his father’s bills from shared accounts. The Biden family’s relationship to China’s influence operations is something Comer and House Oversight have firmly in their sights, but the information will no doubt be difficult to dislodge. Perhaps that's because, as Newt Gingrich laments, it all looks a lot like what many already assume happens all the time in DC: unfettered and shameless corruption: [T]here is virtually no public accountability or transparency about the money trail. It’s a given that Chinese sources aren’t going to share any information. And the University of Pennsylvania is simply refusing to obey the law and report the foreign donations. I worked with the Trump administration’s Department of Education on this for several years, and we simply could not get the University of Pennsylvania to open its books and explain where all the Chinese money was coming from. Consider that now-Secretary of State Antony Blinken was the manager of the Penn Biden Center. Several other Biden team members were paid by the University of Pennsylvania in the period between Joe Biden’s vice presidency and presidency. Meanwhile, in apparent appreciation for setting him up at the center, Joe Biden appointed former University President Amy Gutmann to be U.S. Ambassador to Germany. Similarly, David Cohen, the former chairman of the university’s board of trustees, is now the U.S. Ambassador to Canada. It's disappointing that the apathy about what the current President of the United States and his family have been doing to help China succeed to the potential national security detriment of the United States is this pronounced. As Jim Geraghty writes at National Review, it's remarkable on a national scale. “If I said to you that a company that was effectively controlled by the Chinese government paid Hunter Biden almost $5 million for vaguely defined ‘consulting’ and legal work, wouldn’t that bother you?,” he writes. “Even if you’re a loyal Democrat — even if you were so progressive you’re to the left of Bernie Sanders — do you want members of president’s family to get in bed with the Chinese government?” Another way to put that is to ask if it’s reasonable to take progressive’s silence and lack of outrage – from their legislators, media mouthpieces, and voters – as an answer to those questions.

President Biden called the election security law "Jim Crow 2.0" and urged Major League Baseball to yank the All-Star Game from Atlanta, which they did — all based on a lie. Woke corporations signed an open letter and used it to virtue signal their opposition to what they alleged would be racist disenfranchisement of voters in Georgia. Celebrities took to their Instagram and Twitter followers to smear the law, furthering false claims. Failed Democrat candidate for governor Stacey Abrams declared that the law proved definitively that Georgia Republicans were racist and wanted to return, as Biden had hinted, to some revamped iteration of disgraceful Jim Crow policies. But then the 2022 primary election happened, and voter turnout records were broken. That is, Georgia's election security law actually saw *more* people vote, refuting the claims made by Biden, Abrams, celebrities, and woke companies that the law would suppress voters, especially black voters. The midterm general election saw more of the same boosted turnout numbers — a real-world demonstration of how laws like Georgia's that secure elections give more people faith in the integrity of their vote and confidence that it will be counted fairly. 'But...but...,' stammered Democrats in Georgia and elsewhere, 'higher voter turnout doesn't mean there wasn't suppression of black voters. Unlikely, but Democrats clung to that talking point like Jack Dawson gripped that floating Titanic door in the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. Well, now we know (again) that Democrats were lying about the impact of Georgia's election security law. The University of Georgia just finished up a polling project asking Peach State voters — not Joe Biden, not woke companies, and not out of touch celebrities — about their experience voting in the 2022 election, the first full cycle in which Republicans' new election security law was in effect. The survey included "1,253 Georgia registrants who self-reported as having voted in the 2022 general election," according to UGA's poll. And UGA's survey found that, contrary to Democrat race-baiting and fear-mongering, Republicans delivered on their promise to not just make cheating more difficult, but to make voting easier — for all voters regardless of their race. Under Georgia's new election security law, 98.9 percent of voters said they did not have any problem voting, including 99.5 percent of black voters and 98.7 percent of white voters. When it came to wait times — another area in which Democrats tried to claim the new election law was disenfranchising black voters — 94.7 percent of voters saw wait times less than 30 minutes, including 68.7 percent who waited less than 10 minutes and 31.9 percent who had no wait time. For those who did have to wait a few minutes, 99 percent of voters said they felt safe, and 72 percent rated their experience voting in the 2022 election as "excellent," including 72.7 percent of white voters and 72.6 percent of black voters. A whole 0 (zero) percent of black voters rated their experience voting in 2022 as "poor." When asked to compare their experience voting in 2022 with their experience in 2020, 14.8 percent of voters said it was "easier" in the most recent election, while 77.4 percent did not note a difference. Among black voters, 19.1 percent said it was easier to vote under the new law, 72.5 percent saw no difference, and just 6.9 percent reported it was more difficult to vote. Where's that racial disparity Democrats absolutely promised would occur as a result of more secure elections? UGA's poll also showed that an overwhelming majority — 89.7 percent — of Georgians were "very" or "somewhat" confident that their vote counted in 2022, including 94.3 percent of black voters and 88 percent of white voters. A significant majority of Georgia voters also said they believed that votes were counted in a timely manner, only properly cast ballots were recorded and counted, and it's easy to cast a ballot in Georgia. So, will this be the end of Democrats' race-baiting fear-mongering? Unlikely. The only real way for Abrams to admit the truth that elections are free and fair would be for Stacey Abrams to actually win a race for governor. On a more serious note, the UGA poll is proof positive that election integrity worked in Georgia, and a great case study for other states to learn from as they look to implement similar laws to make it harder to cheat and easier to vote for all lawful election participants.
