I made this book from photos of our adoption finalization on Wednesday, January 25th. It was a wonderful day - I am such a happy mommy that my family is complete. These four kids are the most awesome humans I could have asked for.

My oldest daughter has spent the last 5 days in San Diego with her Nana and I went and got her today. I missed her so much. She is a wonderful young lady (when her eyes aren't rolling and she's talking to me) but my world is complete with her in it. I bought a series of vampire books on my Nook today for her, she is 13 and her world is ALL about vampires and werewolves, to hopefully get her reading a little bit more. And ta-da! it worked! She started reading them as soon as they were done downloading.

Ok, I am a day behind in my post. Yesterday was a crazy day. My mom, 2 sons and their 2 best friends and I went to a fundraiser boutique for Yucaipa High School Girls Soccer. There was a car show, food vendors, vendors selling all kinds of stuff. My mom and I had "yard sale items". We didn't sell everything but we sold enough that the boys were happier loading the stuff than they were loading it in the cars and unloading it at 7am on the last Saturday of their Christmas break. So, I guess that it wasn't a terrible day. This is all but me, of course, waiting for customers:

Today was spent much like yesterday - cleaning out my mom's hoard. I found a box of old pictures of my Grandpa T's. There are pictures from when his mom and dad were married and of him as a child, he would've been 95 last October. So we can safely say these pictures are O-L-D. I was looking through them and when I turned away for a moment, this is what I found:

This is Twitten - she is 10 months old and as mean as she is cute. When I tried to reach for a photo she attacked me. This little kitten should be grateful she is cute.

I went to my parent's house today to help my mom clean out her storage shed and help her set up her sewing room. Let me just say when I say storage shed I mean think of the show Hoarders. She has stuff in there from 12 years ago that she hasn't even taken out of the boxes. She did really well today letting us throw stuff away, donate, and put items up for sale.

Well, anyway enough about my mom and on to the subject at had Day 5 picture.
This morning my sister-in-law left my 3 year old niece with my parents so she could run some errands. Well, when I got there this is what I found.

She loves to play dress up Barbie games on the computer. But what I really love is that she had pillows and blankets surrounding her - this is the only way I can see spending a day on the computer.... Cup of chocolate milk and cozy pillows - can't go wrong there!

52 Week Clean House Challenge

I made my husband a Chicago Bears blanket for Christmas. It is very warm an cozy. Early this morning (I'm talking 3am) it was chilly in the house and I woke up to find my kitten and dog cuddled in Daddy's blanket. Too cute these two animals are. They play and sleep together all the time. They have since the kitten was 4 weeks old. I will post a picture later of one of their first naps together.

These are my beautiful daughters Aspyn-Kaylah (red pants) and Margarita. They are wonderful girls and I can't wait to see the women they will become! And yes, that is a knife that Aspyn-Kaylah is holding to her sister's throat.... lol?

Twitten really wants to be an outside kitty and we won't let her. Too many coyotes and wild dogs around for her to be safe outside. So, she will have to settle with sunning herself in the the doorway and climbing the screens.

A year in Photos.

I have decided to take a photo a day for the year 2012. It will be fun to see how our lives change over the course of 365 days. There will be photos of my kids, animals, family, friends, anything that catches my eye. At the end of the year I will also be making a photo book - I haven't decided if it will be a scrapbook, photo album or a photo book from Snap Fish - but, I will have all 365 photos in a book next January.

So here is January 1, 2012 (I know, I'm a day behind with the post - the picture is REALLY from yesterday.)

Mommy Time

Over the past few weeks I have been feeling a little trapped in this world of mine as Mommy and Wife. I haven't worked in the better part of a year and my time has been filled with paying bills, chauffeuring kids, laundry, cleaning, cooking, laundry, worrying about money, sleep overs, laundry (we have 6 people in our home there is A LOT of laundry), mediating fights, fixing broken hearts, homework, the list goes on and on. The only thing missing from my duties as a Mommy is the all important "me time". So between yesterday and today I reached empty in my "gas tank".

Our social worker was here today for her monthly visit and Mr. K and I were talking with her about my issues. And she came up with new rules for our family. She literally took my calendar off my wall and started writing days and time when I am "off".

We brought out all of the kids, including the kid down the street who is here more than my kids are, and explained to them that Mommy has a "gas tank" and that it needs to be filled once a week. All of the kids agreed that I sacrifice a lot for them and agreed that 5 hours a week for myself is acceptable for them. They are not allowed to call, text, email, Facebook, or smoke signal me during that time. They are also not to have their dad call me to ask me a question. If they don't know the answer they can wait until I get home.

Now, I am sure that you are thinking, "5 hours to yourself - good for you - but, you still have to come home and prepare dinner". To this I say "No Ma'am!" My girls are to cook dinner for the family every Thursday that I am gone. We will prepare a menu for the night and ensure that they have everything they need to prepare the meal ( I will keep some money in the cookie jar for pizza just in case).

So, beginning July 8th I will have 5 hours of uninterrupted "me time" every Thursday - now the big question will be What will I do with free time?????

My Kids

Last Friday my son (stepson if you want to get technical) Brett came home from his mom's house in Florida. He lived with her for the 1st 10years of his life, local to his dad and me. When he was 10 she moved to Florida with her new husband and he stayed her in California with us. Last summer he made the decision to move to Florida to be with her. He comes to visit us when he is out of school on vacations. So, he is here for his Spring Break and I couldn't be happier.

In August our family lost 1 kid (Brett) to Florida and gained 3 more (adoption). During these past 7 months our family is finding its way. Sometimes it is hard to stay on track with 3 teens/tweens that are new to the family. The kids Omar 14, Maragarita 12, and Kalla 10, keep me busy being a mom and referee most days. We feel like a family and all is well. That is until Brett arrives, then we feel complete. As soon as he sees the other kids it is as if he was only away at a friends house for over night. I wish that his mom lived closer to us so that we could see him more frequent. But for now we just have to enjoy the time that he have as a Complete Family while we can.

Tea Time

Yesterday I had a wonderful time at tea with my best friend, Laura, and one of her childhood friends, Cathy. It was a spure of the moment invite for me and let me tell you am I happy that I answered that phone call.

Laura and I have tea at The Eating Room, in Redlands CA, on a regular basis. Martha Green has the most wondrful bakery and little restuarant. And their tea- YUMMY! This was Cathy's first visit at The Eating Room it was fun to see her reaction to the wonderful food. Her 9 year old daughter is obssessed with tea parties. She was able to get some great ideas for her daughter's next party. Cathy lives 90 minutes away from Redlands and she wants to come down once a month to visit with Laura and me at The Eating Room. I can't wait.

Plus Size Clothing

I am a Plus Size Woman. I am not necessarily HAPPY about being a plus size woman but none the less I am.

Today, one of my favorite blogs was hosting a giveaway for a free shirt from a new clothing company. When I entered to win I looked at the company's website and saw that the largest size they have is a 10/12 XL - (yes, XL). And that got me to thinking!

I have always had a hard time finding clothing to fit, especially something more than a moo moo. I do shop at Lane Bryant and Torrid but sometimes you want to wear oh I don't know maybe a shirt from a new company that is fresh and fun. I see small cute women wearing outfits and t-shirts that I would LOVE to wear. But, NOOOOO the companies who make the clothing don't want to sell to the more average sized women in America.

I just don't understand, how much more could it really cost to make clothes to fit more sizes!!!!!

Broken Nose vs. Heaven

While talking to my 10year old daughter about why it would be better to get hit in the face with the piece of plastic dashboard covering her air bag vs. not having said air bag we had the following conversation:

"Mom, wouldn't it be safer to not have the air bag behind that plastic?"

"No, it will be better to get hit with the plastic than say, die."
"But, I might break my nose."

"Again, broken nose - better than death"

"But, I would be ugly with a broken nose"

"You would look worse dead and you can still play and have fun with a broken nose"

"I can still play an have fun in Heaven. When my spirit gets there, there are basketball courts, soccer, everything that we have that is fun here"

- How do you argue with that???????

Little League Basball

So, I learned my lesson. DO NOT BE LAZY WITH YOUR KIDS! Brett wanted to play baseball but I didn't want to have to drive to the Beaumont park darn near everyday so, I signed him up in Banning. (And his 2 good friends are playing in Banning so he really wanted to be on the same team as them.) Last night we got our schedule there are only 2 teams - yes you read correctly 2 teams in the Broncos Division in Banning. So, the White Sox will be playing the Dodgers EVERY and I mean EVERY game.

The good thing about this, I had to find the silver lining, is that the coach is awesome, the kids are pretty good players and are helping Brett learn to play better. (We had a bad experience on the last team we were on - most of the kids were mean to the guys who weren't so good - wasn't very fun for Brett to play on that team). The coach is patient and knowledgeable and really wants to see the boys do well.

Lesson Learned - Do a little more research on the league. Don't be cheap with the gas in your car - it's only money Right?

Name Change

I took today off from work specifically to go to the Social Security off and officially change my name - yes, I have been married for 17 months have haven't gotten around to changing my name.

Let me give you a little history. I have been married before and I hyphenated my name during that marriage. I only ever used my married name, at work, the doctor, insurance, etc. but legally I was Heather Hyphenated. When my current husband and I went to get our marriage license, I hadn’t dropped the hyphen from my name, just lazy. So anyhoo, we went to the license department and I had all the correct documents proving that I was no longer Mrs. Hyphen except for the paper that said I could have my maiden name back. So, on my marriage license to Mr. K. it has my hyphenated name listed. For the record - Mr. K. was not at all pleased to have my hyphenated name on his marriage license.

So, as of today I am no longer Mrs. Hyphenated - I am simply Mrs. K. It seems weird to me, 30 + years of having my Daddy’s last name and now - a little black ink and a sworn promise to the lady behind the bullet proof glass that everything on my application is true and correct I am simply Heather K.

So tell me - did you hyphenate? Would you hyphenate?

Here it is Saturday at noon and I am still in my pjs and my honey and son are still sleeping. It is going to be a lazy one I can tell.

So, in my last post I said I wanted to post daily and well, we see how that has turned out so far. I will do better - I promise. I have a couple of DIY projects that I need to get done around here - I am super excited to share with you.

Well, I should go and see if my family is ready to wake up and start our weekend.
