Hello...I will not usually be making such long posts but this one was such a thorough and excellent summmary of the current astrology, put together by my friend and colleague, Tomar Levine, that I wanted to share this with you. And now, from Tomar: Greetings, fellow cosmic traveler ~ Is this month the beginning of a new reality? (Read on and find out.) We are certainly going through a portal. But portals are not just ‘one and done.’ Not just a simple doorway you pass through. They are more like corridors... with many doors. More like a birth canal. We are in that now. You can think of the whole coronavirus reality as the squeezing and tightening of muscles pushing us forward, out of one world into another. A difficult birth. You may have heard about the major astrological passages happening this month as portals to a new reality. I’m excited to share this story with you (please stay with me, this is amazing): On Monday, Dec. 14, we have a Total Solar Eclipse/ New Moon that is considered a major event of the year, perhaps the decade. Eclipses always are intense and can bring sudden unpredictable shifts, upheavals, and opportunities. It will birth something and preside over an ending too. Eclipses are wild cards. (Do we need more of those?) The window of change for this eclipse lasts till Dec. 21st. Then the BIG event starts to gather force. On Dec. 17th the planet Saturn enters the sign of Aquarius (and will stay there till March 2023 - Saturn is slow.). Saturn, god of form, structure, restriction, and impediments moves into the sign of freedom. And with it the opportunity to create new structures, and the rising of movements for change, even revolution (these have occurred in the past with Saturn in Aquarius). Two days later on the 19th, Jupiter, the behemoth of the solar system, also slips into Aquarius (until Dec. 31, 2021). Now we’re talking some fiery energy of change! Jupiter is all about expansion, generosity, possibilities and good fortune. Everything it touches expands. Jupiter and Saturn balance each other: the effusive grandness of inspirational vision with the grounded discipline of no-nonsense form - in other words, the ability to turn dreams into reality! (Yay - we can make use of this!) As these two gas giants approach each other they meet in a Great Conjunction on Dec. 21st - just a few hours past the Solstice! (VERY rare.) This is the great event that sets many things in motion. Visually, the two planets seem to merge in the night sky (although actually separated by millions of miles), forming a very bright light that you may be able to see - for the first time in 800 years. This is catnip to astronomers. Said Patrick Hartigan, Prof. of Astronomy at Rice Univ: "You'd have to go all the way back to just before dawn on March 4, 1226, to see a closer alignment between these objects visible in the night sky. ... On the evening of December 21, they will look like a double planet." Image Astrologically, the implications are even more powerful. Jupiter and Saturn are constant partners in the sky, meeting in conjunction every twenty years, and every 200 years the Zodiacal signs they meet in change from one element to another (earth, water, fire, air). When this happens it’s called a Great Conjunction. Their meeting at 0 degrees Aquarius on Dec. 21st intensifies the power of Aquarius and ends 200 years of dancing in Earth signs and the beginning of 200 years of Air energy. What does this mean for us? A change of world view! This partnership of Jupiter and Saturn sets the themes for human society, and for the past 200 years we’ve been dominated by dense, heavy, materialistic Earth energy. This has brought us the Industrial Revolution, capitalism, corporations, fossil fuel, money obsession and the idea of permanent ownership of tons of 'stuff.' The change to Air will lighten things up quite a bit: from “things” to thought, from possessiveness to sharing, from competition to cooperation, from top-down hierarchy to horizontal equality, inspiration and innovation. The last time Jupiter and Saturn met in Aquarius was in 1405, signaling the start of the Renaissance, the flowering of creative genius, and the invention of the printing press, the first step of global communication...(leading to the Internet and beyond). The last time Jupiter and Saturn were conjunct almost this close to the Solstice was around the time of the birth of Yeshua/ Jesus (the Christmas star?) - and the start of the Piscean age! Wow! Image Which brings us to the REALLY BIG EVENT being talked about - the shift from the Piscean to the Aquarian era. Some are calling this the official start of the Age of Aquarius! Astrological ages are determined by the precession of the equinoxes and last around 2000 years - so they don’t change overnight. We’ve been witnessing the gradual shifting of collective consciousness since the 1960’s. But this Great Conjunction could well signify the final push of the baby out of the birth canal into full birth. It is an incredible honor to be able to be midwives of this birth, is it not?! But then, that’s why we chose to be born now! What qualities can we expect to see increase with the Age of Aquarius? First of all, the shifting of values from “me” to “we” - from individualism to collaboration and concern for humanity as a whole. Aquarius emphasizes individual genius and innovation, leaning toward technology, but to serve the common good more than personal gain. (Do you know anyone like that?) The younger generations on the planet now, starting with the Millennials, already show strong Aquarian features. The profound astrologer, Lorna Bevans (Hare in the Moon) puts it this way: “Over the coming years, the Aquarian shift will take us away from the materialistic society we live in now, and into a more networked, collaborative and mentally curious time. It will bring our attention to systems of life generally hidden, the resonance of frequencies, bio-networks, free energy and peer-to-peer networking.” (Look for FREE ENERGY in the next 20 years. Also, I expect, many technological and healing advances that have been suppressed will be revealed and embraced.) She goes on: “The shift into Air marks the beginning of the end of building empires and consolidating power based on a top-down, hierarchal model. We are transitioning into an Aquarian Age of Technology and Ecology after 200 years of Age of Economics. To make the breakthroughs we need in climate change, food supplies, medicine and science we need emergent thinking along with global power sharing and networking.” So the 200 year shift into AIR and the 2000 year shift into AQUARIUS are one and the same. Astro-Butterfly, another astrologer, adds: “New groups, communities, connections, and alliances will form. These new networks will have one thing in common: they will be decentralized, self-regulated, and will allow for individual freedom of expression.” Obviously for this to happen will require a profound shift in consciousness on the part of a significant percentage of humans. We call this Awakening. And many say we’ve finally reached a tipping-point. And it keeps increasing. The visionary astrologer Elizabeth Peru says about the next ten years that “the new energy decade of 2020 - 2030 will see more change in 10 years than we’ve known in the past 10,000 years!” Yikes! But here’s the thing: None of this is happening right away. First comes a continuing process of demolition and clean up. The full shift into Aquarius probably won’t be complete until 2024 (astrologically speaking). And even then it continues to be a process. The year 2021 may be filled with conflict as these two realities - the old and the new - collide even more. Aquarius is all about speed, so events may unfold more quickly than usual. The first few months in particular may feel chaotic as more elements of our system go through an unravelling process. Our job is to stay strongly centered, calmly anchored, and focused on the vision of what’s coming, no matter how things appear. By sensing and affirming the reality of the new world - which I call the Golden Future - the faster we will bring it in. This depend on us. There are multiple possible timelines before humanity and the future can unfold in different ways. Let’s make this transition that we came to support as beautiful and easy as possible. We have at this time a momentous opportunity for our own growth and to pour energy into the vision of the world we long for - the “more beautiful world our hearts know is possible” (to use Charles Eisenstein’s perfect words). According to astrologer Pam Gregory, “December offers us ... the greatest single opportunity in our lifetimes so far for a huge evolutionary upgrade for humanity.” Use the Solstice energy well - by being mindful, doing some kind of conscious process (joining a group event is optional and there will be many) - and most of all, keep your personal energy high and infused with positivity and the vision of the new world we are here to birth. Back to Blogging - with a whole new groove!

Hello my friends and readers! I'm reviving my blog and happy to be back...after four more life-changing years. And what a long strange trip it's been! (Yes, you may see me quote the Grateful Dead from time to time here...as well as Rumi and whoever else speaks to me...). As before, you'll continue to hear my musings, raves and a few rants....poetry, astrological and metaphysical info too...updates on my ever-evolving work with animals and humans (mainly women, but a few men too). Served up with a dollop of whatever else I cook up with Spirit in my local Cosmic Kitchen. This feels like mysteriously perfect timing as we prepare for the ending of 2020 and the shift from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius picks up pace. 2020: The year transformation went global and universal, not just the preserve of those on the growing edge. Change is NOT optional for anyone, anymore. So might as well learn how to ride the waves with more resilience, humor and wisdom! Stay tuned for more, very very soon.. Dear Friends,

New Moon is Wednesday, June 1 at 3:03 PM Mountain Daylight Time. This signifies the beginning of a window of change and opportunity. This new moon is accompanied by a partial solar eclipse and is the first of 3 eclipses; full lunar on the 15th and another partial solar on July 1. There will be more information about the significance of this time period in the June forecast but it is important to be aware now of the power of this new moon as it launches a potent time of change and realignment.

Paying attention to and being present in all your relationships is perhaps the best way to use this new moon time. Take at least one thing you have in your life that you use on a regular basis and really pay attention to your relationship to it and with it. For example, if it is your car, do you say hello to it every morning? Do you clean it regularly? Do you feed it good food? Do you thank it for its service? Do you talk to it and share where you are going? Do you cherish it and take care of it? Are you in gratitude for it? Pay attention to these details.

The same suggestion can go for your home, appliances, electronics, electric toothbrush, furniture, tools, and almost anything that you have that is of a physical nature that you depend on for living your life. Instead of wondering and worrying about what may happen out there somewhere on the planet (earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes, tornadoes etc.) pay closer attention to what you have right in front of you. What kind of relationships do you have with your physical environment and the things you own? What kind of attitude do you have regarding your things? The change you are looking for is not out there. It is within yourself and how you interact with your environment. So start with something you have and spend a little time with it during this new moon. It will expand you into a place that will eventually allow for greater awareness.

Sun and Moon in Gemini 11º

The cosmos is about to present us with a 'perfect storm' to practice our crisis/opportunity kung fu. Three eclipses in a row create a notable opening for realignment. The slope gets slippery; we shift our weight, we lose our footing, our assets realign, resources appear, we perceive the dance in a new light.

Eclipses are cyclical. Six months and 19 years. We experience two eclipse cycles a year - one winter, one summer with two or three solar/lunar eclipses together. And each eclipse cycle is related to a prior eclipse 19 years previous. So, review what you were doing 19 years ago - that would be about June 1992 when we last saw this eclipse cycle at the same degree. Those same issues and themes frequently come spiraling up for review.

Here's the current line up:

June 1 - New Moon-Partial eclipse of the Sun Gemini 11º visible in eastern Asia, northern Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland, Iceland, and the northern tip of Scandinavia.

June 15 - Full Moon-Total eclipse of the Moon Sagittarius 24º visible in Australia, Asia, Japan, India, Africa, Europe, and South America except the northwestern part.

July 1 - New Moon-Partial eclipse of the Sun Cancer 9º visible from the southern tip of South Africa, Antarctica, Tasmania, and New Zealand.

Often the effects are strongest in the path of the eclipse, although they affect the entire planet.
Eclipses are precise alignments of the Sun, Moon and Earth. Electromagnetic energies are briefly interrupted, up graded and reset. Shift can come easily, suddenly, completely. Eclipses are thought of as marking beginnings and endings. As this cycle of three eclipses begins with a New Moon, we have the opportunity to set our intention about what we would like this entire period from June 1 through mid July to bring to us. In fact, it is practically mandatory. You don't want this much energy blasting through your reality without a point of focus - an intention. The times are like the exhilaration you feel when crossing a raging river over a big log. You don't want to look down, only where you want to end up! That raging river holds the chaos of the collective change we're passing through. Don't end up in it; know what you want to create and keep your sights focused and undistracted.

The first eclipse is the initiator and accelerator. There's much support available especially from Saturn, Vesta, and Pallas Athena. Saturn wants us to be disciplined, aware of time, not putting things off, showing up, moving things into balance one step at a time and in Libra relationships, business, social justice and valuing connectedness, aesthetics, art, and beauty are the most likely playing fields.

The second eclipse will hold more emotional impact, bring into play our subconscious lunar natures and stretch us out to a galactic level as it touches near the Galactic Center of our galaxy. Energies that awaken and transform us from deep within the consciousness of our cosmic structure are pulling us out of our hamster-wheel lives and linking us to forces much greater than we have ever experienced. Remember to link your heart to the heart of the Sun on a daily basis to keep energetically current.

The third eclipse is the most powerful and rates a five on a four-star rating scale. Very likely a major turning point of the year. The last time we saw a similar configuration (last summer) we manifested the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. What we have here is a Grand Square/Cardinal Cross made up of Saturn, Uranus, Pluto and the Sun/Moon in the first 10º of the cardinal signs known for their ability to generate crisis/opportunity. Squares generate the kind of energy, pressure and conflict that cause events to manifest for all to experience. Situations come to a head. Pluto, Uranus, Saturn tend to manifest experiences that we as a collective need to experience to learn important lessons for our evolvement. It's a pressure cooker for growth! And we can't discount the increased ramp-up energetically called into play by the Mayan calendar. June straddles Day 3 (sprouting, 5/20-6/24) to Day 4 (leaf formation, 6/25-7/12). It's like my dentist says, "...you are going to feel a little pressure" as he puts a foot long needle into my jaw. We will, no doubt feel pressure from this configuration. We may feel intently the shifting of security out from under us and feel the uncomfortable wave of void that comes from cutting loose our enmeshment with our current constructs that make us feel safe. Moving towards the peak of sun spot cycles as we are now only increases the intensity.

Now, this is no situation to walk into with a loose container, no intentions and dragging a lot of emotional baggage. Take some time at this New Moon and clean out, get very clear about what you want in your life and of what you're letting go. Cement it with some ritual. Write it down. Walk in Nature. Ask for help. With a Gemini archetype active, it's always a good idea to discipline the mind, your thoughts, your communications. Be conscious and deliberate. Thoughts and words matter to the extreme. Perception can shift in an instant. Be as fluid, flexible and adaptable as fleet-footed Mercury, the ruler of a Gemini Moon.

In June, seven out of nine planets plus Chiron are either changing signs or directions (retrograde/direct) not including the Moon. The energies are conspiring to keep the rug pulled out from under us and provide us with practice in finding our center inside. Contact with this void, unknowing state could be almost constant. Out of the cracking open come new ideas, new resolve, quick thinking, cooperation, and wit. Of course we are used to the inner, personal planets, Venus and Mercury changing signs on a 3-4 week basis: Venus moves to Gemini June 10, Mercury moves to Cancer June 17 - no big deal. But with more significance, Neptune, only two months and 0º into Pisces turns and retraces steps on June 3rd retrograding towards Aquarius (August 3rd). Jupiter says bye-bye to Aries and enters earthy Taurus for a year (6/5/11-6/12/12) to expand our sensual relationship to being human, to interest us in expanding our resources, satisfy our appetites and explore where stubbornness gets us. Saturn finally moves direct on June 13 after five months of retrograde introspection and slowed progress and will take until mid-September to pass again the point where it left the road. Our agreements and commitments are up for reconsideration. Old forms of relating and doing business are being called out for their selfishness and greed. Saturn in Libra values fairness, equality, and social balance. The fresh energies are in people mixing it up in whole new ways. Chiron also retrogrades about June 8th until mid-November opening one more portal to release the past and reframe the energy into personal power borne of experience. Not to mention that pesky, Full Moon eclipse June 15th and Summer Solstice coming June 21st. (Picture Munch's painting of "The Scream" here) Well, that's probably more than you wanted to know, but you get the idea - Lots of shift and movement, a lesson unto itself regardless of what's slipping and sliding around.

Expect to notice the field of the eclipses several days before and several days after the exact day of the event. Step over doubt and anxiety and move up to gratitude as often as necessary. And celebrate your willingness to be a part in this shift from a 3rd chakra orientation of will to the creation of the web of the 4th chakra of love and connectedness that is growing from the heart of each one of us.

New Year's Inspiration: Declaration of Empowerment

Happy New Year to my friends and readers! I thought this would be an appropriate message for the New Year..with thanks to Denise Dolan, a teacher of the Four Agreements (Toltec teachings as expressed through Don Miguel Ruiz). I met Denise and sat in circle with her once while we were both living in New Jersey.

Declaration of Empowerment

Written through Denise Dolan - New Years Eve 2006

I am an amazing and Divine Being,
capable of allowing infinite power flow
through me, in me, as me, and all around me.

I allow myself to be seen, with my light shining upon the soul of all those around me.

I acknowledge that I am Spirit in action,
and Spirit is far more powerful
than any limiting ideas, feelings, or past experiences.

I now allow myself to acknowledge, accept and embody the Infinite Power of the Universe as my own loving power.

I am saturated with Divine Desire as I honor my true authentic self in all circumstances with ease and grace.

Full-Fat Relationships (hold the olestra)

I had the most interesting conversation tonight with a fellow healer friend, interweaving ideas from nutrition, 5 element acupuncture and relationships.

We were talking about someone she was dating..and how the experience was giving her a rush, similar to a sugar buzz..but after he left, her whole body went into a very depleted state. Then we were talking about the whole concept of romance in our culture..it's all about the initial "high" or the sugar buzz..and in that way of thinking, when the buzz wears off you just go find someone new. No real relationship or foundation for a relationship ever happens, it's just one romance after another (and all the crash and burn in between).

It's very artificial and highly addicting, but leaves you empty. We compared that to the experience of olestra, the fat-like stuff with no calories, that tastes good (I hear) but messes your digestion up. There is so much in America like that, both in the world of food and in popular culture..all appearance and nothing of real substance or nutrition. In fact, the nutritional wisdom my friend is learning in acupuncture school is that it is best to eat the real thing: real sugar, real (healthy) fat, in moderation (and apparently eating fat with your sugar helps slow down the sugar metabolism..guess Hagen Dazs is back on the okay list!). Of course all in moderation...but I'd rather eat two or three spoonfuls of real ice cream than a gallon of the artificial stuff. My mother ruined me for artificial sweeteners (thanks, Mom, really!) because she lived on Sweet n'Low, artificially flavored Weight Watcher candies and sodas for years...it tasted so bad I decided water was much better tasting..maybe they've improved the taste since the 70's (I hope so) but they aren't really any better for you.

In short, where are the empty (and/or toxic) calories in YOUR life?

Bring on the fat...(no one ever convinced me margarine was better than butter)!

A great novel

I love the Southside library in Santa Fe. It's a little far out of town, but it's new and huge, and my random walks down the fiction aisles always yield some great reading. I was encouraged by the librarian at the busy circulation desk..she said people are reading more now, instead of just going to the movies and watching videos at home. A little silver lining to the current economic situation, I'm thinking.

I've been luxuriating in reading, both stuff related to my work and fiction, over the holidays. I just finished "Love in the Present Tense" by Catherine Ryan Hyde, author of "Pay it Forward."

I am so moved by the story...it is about real love and about what really matters. It also shows you life from the point of view of the amazing character of Leonard, whose mother disappears when he is 5, who never stops trusting or believing in forever love..which he knows
his mother had and still has for him.

here's a snippet..Leonard and Mitch go for a walk (Leonard is 18 at the time and Mitch has been like a father to him though not his adoptive father. They are sitting on a park bench at night). I hope this gives you a little taste and makes you want to read this beautiful book yourself.

"What's different about tonight?" I asked Mitch.
"What do you mean?"
"Just what I said. What's special tonight?"
"Nothing", he said. "It's just like every other night."
"No way. Wrong. No night is just like every other night.
You're not looking close enough".
"I'm looking as best I can" he said. "Nothing's different."
"If I could see," I said, "I'd find something. You know I
would."
"Yeah," Mitch said. "You probably would."
"So look the way I would. Come on, Mitch. It'll be good
for you."
He was quite for a full minute or two. Then he said,
"There's a ring around the moon tonight."
"Good," I said. "That's a good start."

It's late at night here in Santa Fe, our white Christmas has
begun early...I can see the snow covered road from my
window.

A baritone voice (yes, in my head, I admit it)
says "Welcome, Ellen to the blogosphere!"

Blogger made it easy..took less than five minutes to start
this blog. And who knows where it will take me?

Will anyone else be interested in reading my thoughts
(will I?)...

I've kept diaries since I was 16 and have a cabinet full..
but those were private, not on the internet.

okay, I've jumped in..more to come, but not for tonight.
