Many rappers or what mainly derails most great musicians especially in our local front here is the fact that most smoke and drink alot -the party people.Rabbit does none of that he says he doesn’t drink and neither does he smoke hence he spends that free time into quality time and that translates to money in the bank.I bet even most of his major hits have been recorded during such times.Give him a week or two and he always surprises us with something fresh and being a lyric master he must release a song every two weeks.

Loyal Ugandan Kids Bought Soccer Jerseys By Uchumi

Anyone on social media has most likely come across a picture of some Ugandan children playing soccer in ‘jerseys’ made from Uchumi paper bags. This photo impressed most of us and it led to some tweeps on Twitter pleading with the supermarket to purchase some proper games attire. These tweeps argued that the kids had showed ‘loyalty’ and thus deserved some appreciation from the supermarket. Uchumi heeded to their pleas and on 25^th October, 2015 the supermarket bought the kids some magnificent sports jersey.
This generous act by the supermarket came at a time when Uchumi had decided to close down its branches located in Uganda.

Man United's Luke Shaw denies he is one of two Premier League players planning to reveal they are gay

Luke Shaw has denied he is one of the Premier League players planning on announcing they are gay.
The Mirror revealed on Friday night that two players - one an England international - are set to come out. They would be the first openly gay players still playing in the English top flight to reveal their sexuality since Justin Fashanu in 1990.
We are not naming the players involved, but Luke Shaw has now moved to deny he is one of them.
The Manchester United left-back took to Twitter on Saturday night to reply to a message posted by United fan account @UnitedStandMUFC which read: "The idiocy of these Luke Shaw rumours & he's not even gay! And so what if he is? He's a United player and we support him #MUFC".
Shaw, 20, replied: "it's not me so everyone can shut up now."
Shaw is currently recovering from a broken leg and is expected to be out until March.

@UnitedStandMUFC later replied: "It's just keyboard warriors trying to stir up trouble. Bottom line. United fans have YOUR back Luke. Speedy Recover pal # MUFC."
Gay footballers have stayed silent about their sexuality for fear of the backlash including taunts from opposing fans.
But with attitudes finally changing the two Premier League stars believe the time is right to come out.

A source said: “The stigma has completely gone, and the public are far more accepting.
“At this level of football, being gay is almost the final frontier.
“It has always been such a macho game and, unfortunately, perhaps more than in any other sport, there can be an aggressive mob mentality in the stands.
“But finally the tide is turning and more and more sports people are openly gay.”
The two players – including an England international – have told family and friends, and are being supported by their clubs and the Football Association.

If you're visiting Kenya, there's a good chance you are flying into and out of it's bustling capital, Nairobi. Here is a suggestion of what to do to make your trip memorable

Nairobi National Park

You think just because you’re in the middle of a bustling city, you can only do city things? Think again. Nairobi National Park is a mere 7 km away from Nairobi’s centre. It boasts four of the Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo – along with over a hundred other African mammals.
Beside the animals, the scenery is pretty spectacular, with varying vegetation, from open grass plains to highland dry forest and riverine forest. Dams have been made in the park and have added further habitats for the animals and over 400 species of bird that call the park home.

David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, located in the Nairobi National Park is most famously known for its elephant and rhino orphanage. The trust has done incredible work in the conservation of Africa’s wildlife, since 1977. They have successfully hand-raised over 150 orphan elephants!
Once the baby elephants ‘graduate’ from the nursery, at about two to three years’ old, they are reintegrated into the wild in Tsavo East National Park.
A visit to the centre is well worth it, not only to support their great work, but the cuteness factor of these li’l ellies is off the scale! Contact the centre before you go, to find out feeding times etc.

Maasai Market

The Masaai Market is held each day (except Mondays) in a different place in Nairobi. See here for where it is on the day you want to go, and check with your hotel reception. The market is a bustling, colourful, loud and busy experience and is the place to go for truly African pieces to take home for yourself, or as gifts. Buying gifts from locals supports loca economy directly, so its a win-win situation.
Remember some basic rules, though:

Do not express interest in an item, if you don’t really want it. Take time to walk through the market and see everything before deciding. You may find the same thing, but made better, two stalls down.
Do bargain. It is normal, and expected. Often prices are inflated by more than double, so hold your ground.
Avoid mass-produced goods. This is a market that has both commercial, factory-made stuff and handmade. Speak to the vendors, many of whom are the artists/crafters themselves. Who wants a mass-produced t-shirt when you can have a handmade beaded bracelet instead?
Do take local currency, in small denominations, to make bargaining easier. Also, take only what you need, and keep it in a body wallet.
Avoid the ‘guides’ who offer to show you around and take you to the ‘best stalls’. In general, the extort money from the vendors in return (and, despite what they say, you’re not getting a bargain!)
Do give yourself sufficient time to take in the sights and sounds of a truly African market.

Nairobi National Museum

Situated on Museum Hill, a ten-minute drive from Nairobi CBD, lies the Nairobi National Museum. It was opened on this site in 1930 and closed in 2005 to undergo major renovations, reopening in June 2008.
The museum and its surrounds link to the four pillars of Kenya’s national heritage – nature, culture, history and contemporary art. The museum precinct includes not only the actual museum, but an art gallery, botanical gardens, snake park and shopping/eating facilities.

Snake Park

Learn about the rich cultural heritage of Kenya and the archaeological origins of man, see the animals and birds of Africa in the galleries, appreciate contemporary Kenyan art, and then go for a stroll through the beautiful botanical gardens. If you’re brave, visit the snake park and get up close and personal with some of Africa’s favourite reptiles.
The museum is open 365 days a year, from 8:30 to 15:30.

Drink Kenyan Tea and Coffee

Kenya is known for both its coffee and tea plantations so where better could you be to sample them?
There are a number of branches of the Java House coffee shops across Nairobi. They specialise in coffee, tea and fresh, light meals. There’s nothing quite like reading the morning paper with a steaming hot cup of fresh coffee, grown locally.
If you’re looking for something to take home as a gift, Dormans offers a wide range of ethically-sourced Kenyan and Tanzanian coffees. Visit one of their coffee houses and try them out. You’ll probably find yourself popping in at regular intervals, it’s so delicious.
Karen Blixen Museum
‘I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills.’
Who doesn’t remember that line, spoken by Meryl Streep in the opening scene of the Oscar-winning film, Out of Africa? No longer is the house part of a farm, Nairobi having spread since Karen Blixen’s times, but it has been turned into a museum.
Karen Blixen, a Danish author, moved from Denmark to Kenya with her husband, and lived in the house from 1917 to 1931. Her husband insisted on trying to farm coffee. After they divorced, Karen continued fighting for the farm and the locals, and fell in love with an Englishman.
The museum allows you to relive the romanticism of those years, and hardships endured by Karen Blixen. Tea in the beautiful, serene gardens, and a view of her beloved Ngong Hills, will make you feel like you’ve been transported back to those colonial days.

Experience Local Transport: Matatus

Matatus, or taxis, are the privately-owned (or taxi company-owned) vehicles that predominate Nairobi’s public transport system.
It looks chaotic, it sounds chaotic, it is a little chaotic, really, but it’s a great way to experience Nairobi as the locals do. Brightly coloured and often with slogans that’ll keep you grinning throughout the trip, these taxis are like nothing you've seen before.
A couple of warnings, though:

Know where you’re going. Preferably take a local with you.
Find out what the trip should cost, before you go, so that you don’t get fleeced.
Leave your valuables behind. You’ll find yourself jostled and squashed. There are pickpockets. Keep your wits about you.
Enjoy the trip. It could get wild!

Langata Giraffe Centre

Opened in 1983, the Giraffe Centre has made a huge impact on protecting the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. The centre focussing on teaching the local community about conservation and they provide free conservation workshops to local school groups.
The centre allows you to see these gorgeous creatures close up, and learn a bit about their habits and habitat. Giraffe conservation is vital to protect these beautiful, gangly, creatures from extinction. After you’ve met the giraffes, relax at the tea room for a cup of tea and take in the beautiful surrounds.

Karura Forest

Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city? Head to the Karura Forest and be amazed by its cool serenity, right in the city. With a gorgeous waterfall and many walking and cycling trails through cool forest glades, it’s easy to forget you’re in the city at all.
Take a picnic basket and enjoy your lunch in the shade. Just beware of the naughty monkeys – they’ll steal your lunch if you turn your back for a second.
As in any 'isolated' place, it's preferable not to walk alone. Guided tours are offered.

Enjoy Kenyan Cuisine

What’s a trip to a new country without sampling the local food? Different communities in Kenya have different ‘signature dishes’, and there a number of good restaurants that specialise in traditional Kenyan dishes. The focus is on locally-sourced, fresh ingredients. One tip: skip breakfast and go hungry!

Amaica

Amaika is the Luhya (the people from western Kenya) word for the traditional cooking area. Initially specialising only in Luhya cuisine, Amaica now offers dishes from all regions of Kenya, which allows you to sample a wide range of dishes.
The Westlands’ branch is situated overlooking the beautiful Karura Forest, providing a tranquil environment in which to enjoy your meal.

Carnivore

As its name suggests, Carnivore is known for its meat, which is cooked over coals in the pit at the entrance to the restaurant. Referred to as the ‘Ultimate Feast of Beast’, a wide array of meat is served, from beef to goat to crocodile.
The set price includes soup, the meat feast with a vast selection of salads and vegetables on the side, followed by coffee and dessert, which only comes once you admit defeat by lowering the white flag on your table. Until then, the servers keep coming with food.
It certainly is an experience, with a rustic atmosphere created with rough-hewn beams, local wood and tropical gardens (including streams!) A vegetarian menu is also offered.

Kibera Tour

Africa is a continent of extremes, and this applies to living conditions as much as anything else. In an area of approximately 2.5 km², over 1 million people live, which is approximately one third of Nairobi’s population. This is Kibera, about 3 km south east of Nairobi CBD.
With no permanent residential buildings, and minimal urban services – on average, one pit toilet per 50 to 200 residents – the area is a busy hive of shack dwellings and people. The people of Kibera come from all the ethnic backgrounds of Kenya, and the railway runs through the slum.
And while living conditions are atrocious, life goes on for these people and they’re friendly and welcoming and more-than-ready to chat to visitors. Get a glimpse of all sides of Africa and go on an organised tour of Kibera.
There are a number of companies offering tours, including Kibera Tours, Victoria Safaris and Explore Kibera Tours.

Kazuri Handmade Beads And Pottery

What started out in 1975 as a tiny workshop experimenting with making ceramic beads is now a ceramic bead and pottery factory employing over 300 women. Many of these women are single mothers and providing employment to disadvantaged communities was one of the driving forces behind Kazuri.
The beads are made from scratch and hand-painted, creating beautiful, colourful pieces. The factory is situated in what used to be part of Karen Blixen’s estate.

Student debt: What's been driving college costs so high, anyway?

Aaron Marks graduates this spring with a business degree from a good college, Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and, unlike many of his classmates, a good job.
He also has $191,000 in student loan debt.

Mr. Marks's debt is extraordinarily high, but stories like his abound. Two-thirds of students graduate with debt, to the tune of $25,000, on average.

Keeping interest rates low on federally subsidized student loans – a challenge that has lately occupied Washington – would make only a dent in what student borrowers owe. Hence, the conversation is beginning to shift to the other side of the equation: the rising cost of college.

Between 1999 and 2009, tuition at public four-year colleges rose 73 percent on average, and tuition at private nonprofit colleges jumped 34 percent. In the same period, median family income fell by about 7 percent.

"One of the reasons we have a hard time wrapping our arms around [the college affordability issue] is that there's not one villain or one hero," says Patrick Callan, president of the Higher Education Policy Institute, a nonpartisan organization focused on higher ed issues. "It's kind of the perfect storm."

Among the contributing factors: state budget cuts, which prompted many public colleges to raise tuition and fees; a gradual shift of responsibility for payment from government to students and their families; and a "seller's market" in which colleges can raise tuition without repercussions.

Until relatively recently, a college degree was fairly affordable, especially if a student was willing to work and to attend an in-state public school. That started to change in the 1980s. But in the past decade, the cost of a college education has skyrocketed, rising faster than inflation – faster even than health-care costs.

Take the University of Washington. Twenty-five years ago, a student who worked half time during the school year and full time in summer could pay for college, says Mr. Callan, whose institute recently studied tuition rates there. "That's not true anymore," he adds. "You couldn't even come close."
Student and family response: borrow more

As a result, more students everywhere are taking out loans. Last year, cumulative student loan debt surpassed $1 trillion for the first time – more than is owed on credit cards or car loans.

In Washington, Congress has been struggling with legislation to keep rates on some low-interest student loans from doubling as of July 1, though both parties say they want to do so. President Obama, meanwhile, has touted the need for college affordability, holding a summit with some university presidents in December and pointing to the problem during his State of the Union message. Vice President Joe Biden met with more top university officials this month. The White House has urged greater transparency about the cost of schools and how much their typical graduates go on to earn, and has proposed withholding some federal funds from colleges that raise tuition too much.

"Higher education shouldn't be a luxury," Mr. Obama said in his January address. "It is an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford."

But so far, students remain willing to pay, concluding that to forgo a college degree would be worse for them in the long term. And many colleges, especially the best ones, are still flooded with applications.

The Second JAB Revision of Courses for KCSE 2011 Candidates Commences

Upto 5000 KCSE 2011 candidates who qualified to join public universities have failed to meet the requirements of their selected courses. Their weighted cluster points did not meet the minimum cluster points of any of their four selected degree choices.

This was announced by JAB's Board Secretary Mr. Ben Waweru. The affected candidates have been given a week to select other alternatives i.e for which they are qualified to study. These are normaly courses that after the 1st revision have unfilled capacity.

The list comprising of indexes of candidates expected for revision can be downloaded here These candidates have been given
a 2nd and final chance by the Joint Admissions Board to revise their degree choices from Wednesday, July 18, 2012 12:00am to Tuesday July 24, 2012, 2012 11:23pm.

The list of available courses is also available online in JAB's website.

The 2nd revision of courses will be done online just like the 1st revision. The online revision has really eased the process which was previously a hectic manual process.

The allocation of courses is not finalized hence even candidates who qualified for at least one of their four choices may not know the exact course for which they are selected for.

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States. The SAT is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in the United States and is developed, published, and scored by the College Board. It is offered several times a year. The SAT tests scores are required by colleges/universities in the United States in consideration of admission.

The College Board has international representatives in most countries. The representatives help it to register and enable registrants of the respective countries to sit for the exam.

Frise Holdings in Nairobi is the International representative (agent) that provides a number of services for test registrants in Kenya. The environment we live in supplies us with almost all the resources we need for our survival. Different technologies are used to extract some of these important resources. It is necessary that these technologies do not harm other equally important areas of the ecosystem which include air, water, soil, and other living beings. Environmental and bio-systems engineering therefore helps create technologies for the well-being of humans as well us the preservation and enhancement of the environment.

Bio-systems engineering integrates biological science with technology hence the skills may be applied to a wide array of biological applications. Environmental engineering on the other hand is a field that helps design environmental protection strategies for natural resources. The combination of these two fields applies the science and art of engineering to the design and management in the open systems of natural resources of air, soil and water in order to minimize the adverse impact of human activities and other processes on the natural environment.

The Joint Admission Board (JAB) Announces Date for Revision of Courses for KCSE 2011 Candidates

The Country's body charged with administering the selection of KCSE students to public universities, has announced the date for the first revision of courses. All K.C.S.E examination candidates who scored a minimum aggregate of B Plain of 63 points and in addition, those female candidates who scored a minimum of B Plain of 61 points(JAB's affirmative action policy) in the 2011 K.C.S.E examination and may wish to revise their degree choices,are informed that the Joint Admissions Board Revision of degree choices will be carried out from Monday, May 14, to Thursday May 31, 2012.

This announcement was posted on JAB's revamped website(JAB). This year the revision of degree courses will be done online unlike the previous years when the tiresome exercise was carried out at provincial headquarters.

Of the 118,256 candidates who qualified to join public universities(C+ and above) only 41,879 will be selected to join and this is due to the limited spaces which are unfortunately determined by the facilities of individual universities. The cut-off point of B plain (63pts) is a derivative of the capacity of the individual universities and the general performance of the candidates.

KCSE 2011 candidates are advised to check the status of their application from former schools at K.C.S.E.2011 Admission Inquiry which has been updated with their preliminary University admissions. They are only required to enter their index No. to check these preliminary University admissions.
