I am one another die hard fan of Google ... To be simple whatever the Google launches, it is sure that I will give a try .So in the last one year even though Google launched many products, this GAE caught my attention more. I still remember those good days where I used to browse, all about GAE in the net and write few test apps . I wrote this simple error filled birthday app . I guess it will be the best place for the guys to start developing their web apps for free . Hoping google gonna release GO supported GAE soon :):)

I always feel great to see people who writes hundreds of lines of complex code and give it for free. To be frank I am still one among the guy who uses the open source code to earn money. So for a change I thought of using all free ware to build a NGO site for ma friend. This site (ilampirai.8m.com) not gonna work around any big technologies ilke Ajax,j2ee etc, its gonna have plain htmls and this yabb forum . Installing the YABB forum just took few mins, and as of now it runs really good. It got all the basic requirements of forum except that it needs different authentication . But its fine, little workaround in YABB code gives me hope to use the YABB authentication for my entire site. Thanks YABB developers keep rocking....

MY Laptop - Part II

Finally we placed an order for our laptop on April 07 2010 and got the mail saying the lap will be delivered within 7 ~ 10 working days. Thinking about 'we' ? yeah it is my friend who also wants to purchase same lapppyyy.On April 09 2010 we checked the online status of our order, it stated 'Manufactring Build Completed' and estimated delivery date was May 05 2010. First we were shocked why the hell dell needs this many days , whether they gonna import from some other galaxy ! .Then our week end came, . Suddenly on Sunday the thought crossed in my mind and tried checking the status again. Now its even worse the whole day what I saw was 'SERVICE UNAVAILABLE' page from DELL .Wow!! guess what ? all sites will leave their contact/customer support page down even when their back end server breaks ??

Its monday now , with great hope checked again ! To prove Luck favours the brave :) got our estimated delivery date to April 15 2010 .So we thought its just 3 more days to open the new lappy . Now its tuesday afternoon 02:15 PM, a call from reception saying 'you got your laptop'. Oh man thats really speeeedddy Dell rocksss !.Ok me and my friend planned to take the lap home now . So just went to PL for asking permission of 30 mins. I don't know why I told this ? just like normal lies said I am going out for bank will be back in 30 mins. To my surprise he asked me a favour to drop a cheque in his account :):(:( . Oh man what is this ???!!!! Fine lets do it no way of escaping , first went to bank and deposit the cheque then to be continued >>>>

My Laptop - Part I

When I am writing this post , I was parallely browsing on what laptop to buy . For the last two weeks I am just checking with my colleagues and friends on it. Most of them asked me to go for DELL, so finally I am planning to buy DELL Inspiron. The model S541217IN8 is the one which perfectly suits my requirement more importantly my budget. Even this was advertised saying 35,900 (Including Taxes) in Dell site what I finally get in check out page is nearly 3000 plus.

The fun here is I continued my checkout with shipping address , billing etc hoping they will ask my CC number so that I can stop . To my wonder I got my order placed with different billing type. Luckily till now I didn't get any call from them :) . DELL please ignore my order as of now .

I have been checking is there any way to buy this same piece from US, but as of now it nowhere seems close. I don't know whats am gonna do next ? so my post also stops here.

Oh man what a targeting advertisement is this. I see the same model DELL ad in my both google ads. Hurray Google rocks....

MY Linux World

For the last one year it was maximum of 20 commands I should have issued in linux boxes and most of the time might have ended with PERMISSION DENIED error. But its been last one month or so, I had some good time with linux. To be frank first I felt little tough, but when it started moving it was awesome. Even though I cannot tell myself as a perfect linux administrator, I am a good linux user. This all started on a day when I just got sudo permission in one of the dev box.There I started installing Perl, PHP ,APache etc. Eventhough most of the time it is just YUM , I got little in my pocket .

The real stuff started when I was asked to install Grsecurity and sbox in the machine . To do Grsecurity it asked me to compile a kernel with Grsecurity patch. First I felt like this things need to be done by great geeks , but finally after following the steps given in LINUX NUT SHELL I too did it. Then loaded grsecurity patched kernel, and tested few of our application. But finally my search came to end only after writing LKM (Loadable Kernel Modules) for over writing few system calls . This is the place where I felt the real flavor of linux .

My dream on this linux world still continues. Once I complete my project I guess I can say myself as linux administrator. Passionately waiting for that day .

Grsecurity - Enhances security in your linux

Grsecurity is a clever kernel patch which enhances the security of mainline kernel. I need to install grsecurity to take main advantages of fixing CHROOT vulnerability associated with my server, luckily this seems fixing my 70% of the requirements.
Since I am new to linux and kernel, compiling the kernel with grsecurity patch seems little tough in the beginning . But later with the help of grsecurity members I am able to compile it easily. Thanks to all the members of grsecurity team ...

Without Google I am damn sure this world should be atleast a decade under developed.In particular all the work I am doing in my office is 90 % because of google.By the way google helps smart workers to be more efficient and powerful than hard workers. Grid computing in few words

Grid computing is, linking of multiple computing resources (processors,RAM,HD, etc) – to provide a much larger and more powerful single virtual computer. Advantages of GRID computing are scalability, efficient use of computer resource and running the appication faster.

Grid computing uses parallel and distributed processing to dynamically share and aggregate multiple computer resources. When a programs is submitted to the grid, the "middleware" analyzes the program first. Based on the program requirements and availability of resources in the Grid, middleware should allocate the program. Parallel processing is the main source for faster execution, so it should identify the code which are independent and execute it parallely across different machine and aggregate the result.

With prioritization and artificial intelligence inclusion the GRID computing gonna be a big hit.

I have installed side wiki extension to my chrome browser.I wrote my first side wiki in my fav chrome browser and thought of publishing this in my blog . But it neither throwed error nor published. Is there any bug in addon or in my browser or within me(hoping Google don't come out with this sort of open bugs) ?

Finally the long awaited Google chrome addons got released . There are quite a good number of add ons available now .But be sure you don't overload your browser with many number of addons and don't lose the simplicity of Google chrome look. So I want to be more selective in my add ons list. As a normal web surfer I need addons for (gmail alert,ymail alert,twitter ,facebook,google wave, google reader,side wiki ,x mark, RSS subscription etc ).

But when I see myself as software engineer in my office PC I just can't go and install all those .So here is the list for few of those specially for web app based software engineer .

1) One Number - Check GMail, Google Reader, Google Voice, and Google Wave. Four sources, one number.
2) PosMeter - This extension check positions of current web page in Google, Bing and Seznam.cz.
3) RSS Subscription Extension - Adds one-click subscription to your toolbar
4) ShowIP - Shows your current IP address
5) Speed Tracer (by Google) - Get insight into the performance of your web applications.
6) Google Sidewiki - Contribute and read helpful information next to any webpage.

Even sometimes Google search goes into exception with unexpected results. If you feel so, then please run your query on the following table and get confirmed it as an optimized query.

The following table summarizes how Google interprets your query.

Search Behaviors	Descriptions
Implicit AND	Google returns pages that match all your search terms. Because you don't need to include the logical operator AND between your terms, this notation is called an implicit AND.
Explicit OR	OR(Caps) or \| operators can be used explicitly to intimate Google, to search for either of this alternative in web page.
Exact Matching	Google returns pages that match your search terms exactly. it cannot search for word inexpensive television when you search for cheap tv
Word Variation Automatic Stemming	Google returns pages that match variants of your search terms.
Common-Word Exclusion	Google ignores some common words called “stop words,” e.g., the, on, where, and how. Stop words tend to slow down searches without improving results.
32-Word Limit	Google limits queries to 32 words.
Term Proximity	Google gives more priority to pages that have search terms near each other.
Term Order	Google gives more priority to pages that have search termsin the same order as the query.

How does SSH works ?

To be frank even though my host is Windows , my work normally happens in solaris/Linux boxes. For this I use Exceed as my remote login tool.

It was during while setting up the boxes I went through the SSh stuffs. After then even though I type daily atleast 10 times ssh command, I forgot the steps what happens internally .Its reallly bad right.So just thought of going through the basics of it and got landed at right place.

The basic steps are as follows:

1: Public and Private keys exist on the SSH server.(let's say 10.10.0.1) They were generated by the server Admin at the time SSH was first set up.

2: A user (10.10.0.30) attempts to ssh into the server (10.10.0.1). The server sends its PUBLIC KEY to the user.

3: The user checks to see if the PUBLIC KEY exists already in its system. If not, the user is warned that this key is not in the system. Once the user accepts the key, it is added to the trusted list.

4: The user (10.10.0.30) uses the server's PUBLIC KEY to encrypt all communications to the server (10.10.0.1). At the initial stage, this would include user name, password.

5: The user (10.10.0.30) also sends it's PUBLIC KEY to the server. (This is NOT the same as the Server's PUBLIC KEY). This is generated newly per every new SSH session(??)

6: The server uses it's own PRIVATE KEY to decrypt all communications from the user. (Which the user encrypted using the server's PUBLIC KEY) The server then uses the user's PUBLIC KEY to encrypt all communications before sending them on to the user.

7: The user then uses it's PRIVATE KEY to decrypt all communications send by the server. (Which the server encrypted using the user's PUBLIC KEY)

8: No one other than the server can decrypt packets encrypted with the server's PUBLIC KEY (Because only the server knows its own PRIVATE KEY).

9: No one other than the client can decrypt packets encrypted with the client's PUBLIC KEY (Because only the client knows its own PRIVATE KEY)

10: Points 8 & 9 work because the PUBLIC and PRIVATE keys are both huge primary numbers that are mathematically related, but would require an unimaginable number of calculations/computing power to derive one from the other.

Difference between ARP(Address Resolution Protocol) and DNS(Domain Name service)

Just the basic difference .

DNS will work at global level i.e., when you type domain name google.com in browser, DNS lookup will take place and it will give the IP associated with the domain google.com .In general DNS translates a domain name ('gazolinia.blogspot.com') to an IP address (e.g. 209.85.231.191)

Whereas ARP will work at link layer and translates an IP adrress (e.g 192.168.0.1) to a MAC address (e.g. 00:11:12:13:14:15) .

Google PUBLIC DNS advantages and disadvantages.

This question can be well answered by only people of OpenDNS. According to them they say the only advantage is faster, but they list too many of disadavantages. Some of them are

1) No dashboard control in Google Public DNS:

When you use OpenDNS, you get the Dashboard controls to manage your experience the way you want for you, your family or your organization.

2) Ad-redirection may happen in future :

Currently many DNS server on failure redirect you to search page . But Google public DNS e claims that this service is better because it has no ads or redirection. But you have to remember they are also the largest advertising and redirection company on the Internet.

3) Google will rule the future world :

From Chrome OS at the bottom of the stack to Google Search at the top, it is becoming an end-to-end infrastructure all run by Google, the largest advertising company in the world. I prefer a heterogeneous Internet with lots of parties collaborating to make this thing work as opposed to an Internet run by one big company.

Google DNS is faster for International users especially . They ran a script to contact Google DNS and other open DNS and compared the results.

If you are the guy who wants to explore GIT, but basically hate reading whole lot of documentation(like me) here is the place to start. It all just started as an experiment to migrate from CVS to GIT . I was in a need to play around GIT for some time . But I don't know where exactly to start . I went through WIki page first then I reached here.

Created one free account here and installed GIT in my local box and continued, it was awesome to work here. This is really a cool place for the beginners like me to start exploring GIT, besides if you are the guy looking for safe secure fast online repository this must be your destination.

I always feel 'The guys in Google can make anything out of nothing' .To add more support here is their new simple change . This implementation may seems simple but its impact will be awesome. I am sure that this will be trending topic for few days in Twitter, status message for all IMs,facebook,Orkut and everywhere.Its the revolution created by Google in the last decade or so.

Now I believe that this few lines of javascript gonna be the most rendered code by any browser in a day.

Like everybody, I also have great passion towards open source software. I always think why people write some complex code and put it on the net for free . In my list of open source application this swfupload.org always have some special place.

I still remember that one interesting and thrilling week when I worked on this swfupload app. The project is simple just upgrade the swfupload app from 0.83 to 2.5.0 (Its all bcoz of the release of flash 10 with some security advancement) . We all thought it would be as simple as copy paste. But it was not, it demanded few changes in perl, javascript and html on our existing code. My passion towards the open source just dragged me towards this project. I started and completed it successfully, only bcoz of help from the members of this community.

This swfupload is one of the great tool to be used when your requirements are any of these.

* Upload multiple files at once by ctrl/shift-selecting in dialog
* Javascript callbacks on all events
* Get file information before upload starts
* Style upload elements with XHTML and css
* Display information while files are uploading using HTML
* No page reloads necessary
* Works on all platforms/browsers that has Flash support.
* Degrades gracefully to normal HTML upload form if Flash or javascript is unavailable
* Control filesize before upload starts
* Only display chosen filetypes in dialog
* Queue uploads, remove/add files before starting upload

Steps to setup GIT as remote repository based upon my experience

Steps to setup remote repository in remote_repo_server.com

1) ssh to 'remote_repo_server.com'
2) cd /home/username/git_remote/
3) mkdir remote_repository1.git
4) cd remote_repository1.git
5) git --bare init

Steps to setup local repo and link to above remote repository

1) ssh to local_repo_server.com
2) cd /home/username/git_local
3) mkdir local_repository1
4) cd local_repository1
5) git init
6) touch README
7) git add README
8) git commit -m 'first commit'
9) git remote add my_remote_repo_server ssh://remote_repo_server.com/home/username/git_remote/remote_repository.git
10) git push my_remote_repo_server master

Installing the GIT remote server in Solaris/Unix/Linux

After I successfully Installed the GIT in my local user . I need to setup the remote repository in server end. When I am googling this I got this page which proves my work is done most. Setting up GIT remote server is as easy as creating the user in Unix.

They say its only 4 steps.

1) Install GIT what I did previously
2) Create one user git in your box.

sudo adduser git

3) Then Create the repository .

# login to remote server
ssh git@REMOTE_SERVER
# once logged in
mkdir example.git
cd example.git
git --bare init

4) Commit to this new repository .

mkdir example
cd example
git init
touch README
git add README
git commit -m 'first commit'
git remote add origin git@REMOTE_SERVER:example.git
git push origin master

With the above doc help I worked out in my local box and added few more steps .

An online fast repository better than CVS, SVN ?

The Internet says the answer is GIT, so for the past few days I have been trying to learn something about GIT( but still Iam a CVS user).

Git is a free distributed revision control, or software source code management project with an emphasis on being fast. Git was initially designed and developed by Linus Torvalds for Linux kernel development.

Why the name GIT ?
Linus Torvalds has quipped about the name "git", which is British English slang for a stupid or unpleasant person. "I'm an egotistical bastard, and I name all my projects after myself. First Linux, now git." This self-deprecating humor is tongue-in-cheek, as Torvalds was actually pressured into naming Linux after himself .

I guess its enough of wikipedia's history let me share my little knowledge on GIT to you people. Before installing the server as your own, try this GITHUB social coding site . First create a free repository here, then install the GIT client in your end (I installed this in solaris, not a big deal just gzip -d , untar and make install ) . Just for the try I commited few files and checked it. Its really coooolllll.

Now my next step is to install the GIT server in my local box . I am not sure whether it will be easy or not ? After then its migration from CVS to GIT if possible. Let see how this project goes for me................

Build an efficient doubly linked list - XOR linked list

Its been fact always that lots of memory gets wasted in doubly linked list to store the left pointer address and right pointer address. This XOR linked list seems more opposing against the above fact.
