When I first seen this story on my screen this morning it infuriated me. As a Breast cancer survivor I can only imagine the humiliation this women felt. It is so sad to think that the horrors possible by human nature can get in the way of human kindness.

Great winter activity.

When you live in a very rural area, travelling between sporting venues can be time consuming, not to mention expensive. So when my daughter come home from school last week wanting to go to the skating rink, I knew I was facing an evening of pouting and complaining. Cavendish Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire world. I recently visited Cavendish beach in the evening and the sunset was phenomenal. The whole sky was painted with a dozen brush strokes of brilliant color. Although my camera got lots of use that evening, the pictures do not do the experience justice.

Breast Cancer in men

Most of society in general views breast cancer as a disease suffered only by women. Although women are 100 times more likely then men to develop breast cancer, breast cancer in men still takes the lives of over 400 men each year. The odds of men getting breast cancer in their life time is estimated at about 1 in every 1000.

The most common forms of breast cancer in men are:

Infiltrating Ductal carcinoma, a form of cancer that develops in the ducts, then spreads or infiltrates the surrounding tissue.

Ductal carcinoma in situ, cancer that begins and remains in the ducts. Ductal Carcinoma in situ (in place) is a non invasive cancer.

Cystosarcoma Phylloides, cancer affecting the connective tissue surrounding the ducts.

Paget's disease of the nipple, a rare form of breast cancer that starts on the surface of the nipple, it is often accompanied by an underlying cancer.

Male breast tissue is susceptible to any and all of these forms of breast cancer. All forms of breast cancer, in men or women, can travel (metastases) to the lymph nodes and other distant parts of the body. Therefore breast cancer in men is just as dangerous as it is for women.

Health info on Paget's Disease of the nipple

Paget's disease of the nipple, also know as Paget's of the breast, is a rare form of breast cancer. Traditionally the disease affects women over the age of 50, however Paget's of the nipple can sometimes occur in women as young as 20. Paget's disease of the nipple only accounts for less then 5% of all breast cancers.

The early symptoms of Paget's of the nipple can often be mistaken, by sufferers, as eczema. Sometimes the condition will appear to improve on it's own, or with some creams, but the improvement is short lived and should not be taken as a sign that the disease is getting better. With any noticeable change in the nipple, areola, or breast tissue consult your physician.

Symptoms of Paget's of the nipple include but are not limited to:

Persistent dry skin

Flaking and or scaling of the nipple skin

Itching and mild irritation

As the disease progresses, the symptoms worsen and may expand to include:

Increased itching

A burning sensation

Tingling

Pain

Weeping or discharge from the nipple

The nipple may become inverted or appear flattened

As the progression of the disease continues the affected area could spread to the areola, and beyond.

In most cases Paget's of the nipple is accompanied by an underlying cancer.
