Highlight & Countoring the face

Makeup can really highlight & enhance someones beauty.

With the right tools and placements, you can make your face look slimmer or wider... You can change the shape of your eyes or lips... You can make your forehead look shorter... You can make your cheek bones look more defined... You can make your nose look slimmer... It's all about what colors you use, products, and where you apply it.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I have learned a lot over the years from researching, talking with experts at beauty stores, watching tutorials, and my own experiences.

One thing that is really important is adding a "lighting" to your face.

If you ever look at head-on-shots of celebrities, you'll notice certain parts of their faces are dark and some are lite up. Like this picture of Mila Kunis:

Notice the angles of her face because of the highlighted and darkened areas? I'm sure the flash of the camera and the photo shopping helped a lot with this picture.. BUT so did the makeup and the way it was applied.

A lot of girls/women use one concealer or one powder to cover their entire face, and that's all they do. They don't highlight or contour their faces with other products. That's okay if you want to do that, but if you want to learn how to contour and highlight, this is how:

TO CONTOUR THE FACE:

Do your normal face routine.
Take a creamy concealer that is 4-6 shades darker than your skin tone.
Using your finger, apply the cream concealer just below your cheek bone. Starting back at your ear, to about half an inch away from the corner of your lips, making it parallel to the jaw line. Repeat on the other side. *This makes your cheek bones stand out. (As seen in "D")
Starting at the bridge of the nose and going straight down, draw a line with your finger using the same creamy concealer. Do this on each side. *This makes your nose look long, thinner, and more defined. (As seen in "E")
Add the concealer to the sides of your face, from your temple to your ear. *This slenderizes the face. (As seen in "B" and "C")
You can do right below your chin on the bone if you want to make that area look smaller.
If you have a large forehead, like me!, put the concealer at the very top of your forehead. It will create a shadow, making your head look like it's curving back, which makes it look shorter. (As seen in "A")
Make sure to BLEND. You don't want weird lines everywhere!! Set with face powder so your makeup stays in place.

Contouring

HIGHLIGHTING THE FACE:

You can't do contouring without highlighting.
Using either a creamy color with white pigments or a high-lighting pencil, apply the high light right on the bone below the outside corners of your eyes. Don't go all the way underneath your eye or you'll look like a raccoon and no one wants that. Blend out towards your cheek bone. *This make your cheekbones stand out. (As seen in "C")
Now apply the cream or pencil to the center of your nose. Start at the bridge and go all the way down to the tip of your nose. Make sure you do a very straight line. *This will make your nose look straight and slender along with the contouring. (As seen in "B")
Right above the eyebrows, apply the high lighting cream or pencil. Don't do the whole eyebrow, just the ends. *This will make your eyes stand out. (As seen in "A")
You can even high light the v-shape in your top lip but adding high light. You can define a more v-shape if you don't have one, by basically drawing a V with a high-lighting pencil. Don't do the whole top lip, just the v-shape. (As seen in "D")

Highlighting

Some products that can help you achive these steps better:

This is the concealer stick I use to contour my face. It's really great because since it's a stick, all you have to do is draw lines on your face in the areas to contour, then blend with your finger. I use five shades darker than my skin tone.

I use High Brow by benefit for my high-lighting pencil. Even though it's technically made for the eyebrow trick, you can use it for anywhere else on the face. Just draw a line, and blend with your finger.

This is by Benefit called "Cupid's Bow." If you want to look like you have larger, fuller lips, this will do the trick! I love this product a lot. All you have to do is use the light side of the pencil to do that V-shape trick I taught you, and then with the dark side of the pencil, you line the very center of your bottom lip. Using the blending brushes the product comes with, blend everything. And vuala! Big lips!! It's all about SHADOWS.

It's not hard to contour & highlighting.. With a little bit of practice, you can really step up your makeup routine! Once you get it down, it'll only take about 5 extra minutes to do.

You'll defintely see a difference; your face will have sharp beautiful angles and your face will glow!

So far, in my opinion, what's different about NC compared to DE:

people are more laidback and nice in NC
in NC the weather is so much nicer way earlier in the year
the beach is five minutes away in NC
they have pine needles everywhere down here.. it's like what mulch is up north haha
you get pine needles stuck to the bottom of your shoes
there's huge bugs in NC.. scary huge bugs
there is annoying tax down here
the main supermarket down here is "piggly wiggly"... up north it's "acme"... piggly wiggly sounds so hick.. i love it haha
there's amazing soda down here called "cheer wine".. it's ten times better than dr.pepper
every station here is pretty much country
sweet tea is a must in NC
so are honey buns

So far, that's all I can think of!

I'm loving North Carolina.. Now all I need is my friends & family to move down. :D

Alex's Doctor Appointment

About a month ago now, Alex hurt himself and has been in a lot of pain. (You can read my "We're Regulars at the E.R." blog about what happened.)

A week ago he had to meet with a urologist who found a half inch tear in his urethra. He was given strict orders to not do anything physical, not lift anything over 25 pounds, or walk for over 15 minutes. Anyone who knows Alex, knows he's not one to sit down for a long time; he always wants to get up and do something. So it took a lot for him to just follow those instructions.. but he did a pretty good job, except for here and there, he would stand for more than 15 minutes. His pain was decreasing and we both noticed that everyday it seemed like there was less and less pain. His pain was on and off, so we assumed everything was getting better and healing.

Today he saw the urologist again, who said his tear got bigger by a third of an inch. We both were surprised, and the doctor reemphasized that he needs to follow all the instructions, even if the pain doesn't feel as bad as it did in the beginning; he may just be getting used to the pain since it's been so long that he has had it. So this time around, we'll definitely be adamant with the doctor's orders.

The doctor will be looking at his progress again next week. But as of now, he is scheduled for surgery March. 25th. Hopefully by his next week's appointment, the tear begins to heal so that surgery doesn't need to happen.

Styles to L.o.v.E.

It's spring time ... colors are changing and the styles, too!

Lots of girly, bold, bright colors *a lot of mustard yellow*, 40's, 50's inspired, and edgey looks are in for the season!

This look is from Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B line; these kind of pants are really edgey and so cool; I'd wear this in a heart beat if I had the money.

Pretty sure this is also Gwen... I love the mohawk look & crazy knot in the back!

Once I learn how to do this, my hair will never be down :)

A few years ago I looked up "DIY" jewlery and found step by step how to make newspaper bracelets. I have like 10! Now they are selling them but JUST MAKE IT! I love them & they're so easy to make, and when you make something, you appreciate it so much more than buying it!

How to: Color your hair

No one likes going to a salon and having to pay more than 50$ for a hair color. But no one likes buying cheap hair color boxes from grocery stores because that hair color always fades.

Instead, you can go to a beauty supply store near you and spend at the most 25$ to do your own hair color. You can do your hair JUST like a professional would, and your hair color will last much longer without becoming dull.

About three weeks ago I wanted a huge change in my hair color. I wanted to go from a dark brown to bright red. I youtubed videos on how to color your hair and this video helped me the most:

Follow her instructions, and also ask the workers at the beauty supply store for some advice on if the products you are looking to use will work well with your hair color.

Boring brown - because I wasted time and money with "fructis" or "clairol" or "loreal". They fade and dry out your hair!!

i can't live by this. i try, but i fail terribly! if i feel a certain way about someone, there is no way i can act fake and pretend to be nice. wouldn't that be worse? good thing is, i don't dislike or have problems with many people. i much rather be a happy person that doesn't have any bitter feelings towards anyone, but that's not realistic. no matter how nice a person may seem, there is always that one person they have a problem with.. even if it's the slightest tiniest problem. we're human, that's how it is! i guess we can just keep trying to keep our mouths shut... i rather just move on from people i don't particularly like. it's just so much better than being fake. but which is the right thing to do?

when life throws you lemons... get PERFECT-O skin!

Ok so a lot easier than buying expensive proactive or any other kind of acne creams or washes is using house hold items that work just as good, if not better!!!

For about 4 months now, I've been using this remedy and literally my skin is clearer than ever!!

All you need is:

Cotton Balls or better yet, Cotton Pads

Lemon Juice (you can squeeze lemons, or just buy lemon juice)

Granulated Sugar or Brown Sugar

First you need to get your pores to open - you can do this a few ways..

1. Boil some water on your stove. Shut stove off and put your face about 4 inches above your pot for four minutes so the steam opens up the pores on your face.

2. Warm up a wet wash cloth in the microwave for a minute and lay it on your face for about 2 minutes.

3. Just wet your face with warm water!

Next, take a few cotton balls (or a round cotton pad that-way easier!!) and soak it with lemon juice. Put about 2 teaspons of sugar on top. Rub the mixture all over your face. It might sting - so if you can't handle it, add some water to the cotton. Make sure you get EVERYWHERE.

The sugar will rub off any dead skin, and the lemon really gets into your pores, killing any bacteria.

I do this every morning, and not only does it help clear your skin AMAZINGLY but the lemons really wake you up! =)

This my friends is the Pomegranate Berry Frutista Freeze from Taco Bell. So sweet and so yummy. Your taste buds will thank you later haha =)

This is marinade sauce for making BULGOLGI. For those of you who aren't familiar with Korean food, this is delicious. Buy shredded beef, a green onion, and a small white onion... Go to a Korean store and buy THIS exact sauce (it tastes the best!!).. chop the onions and put them in a bowl with your beef and DRENCH it all in this sauce for a good half hour... then throw the beef in a skillet and ta-da.. you've got some yummy, easy food. And it's really good over rice!

This woman is definitely one of my role-models. Kandee Johnson has a youtube channel that I found last year... She has so many awesome makeup tips and tricks and creative ideas (like cheap ways to completely change a shirt look or make your own jewelry) ... But she also has amazing stories and a very positive attitude that just rubs off on you when you watch her videos. She also has a few blogs, twitter, and facebook. So look up Kandee Johnson and get some cool ideas and motivation :)

So this isn't that big of a deal, but I love these small notebooks from Barnes & Nobel. I carry it around with me in my purse and when I get an idea, inspiration, or a creative idea, I jot it down. Like today I saw a mosaic table for sale in a furniture store and got the idea that I can totally do that myself... Jotted it down and when I got home, I found a website that has step by step instructions of how to make one yourself!

Olive Oil. If your hair is dry and your sick of it, drench your hair in olive oil.. Leave it in for just 15 minutes, jump in the shower and shampoo & condition. After you get out and your hair dries, you'll be doing it once a month. It's an awesome hair repair home remedy.. and your hair will be so silky smooth after that you won't be able to stop touching it!

Just some things I wanted to share; even though there's about 50 more things I could post!! Haha

I Think We're Regulars at the ER

Alex had his wisdom tooth taken out the first week of December. We got married and then about a week later, we noticed his mouth was so swolen and he was in pain. The dentist told him he had about an inch break off of bone from his jaw coming out of his gums. After having surgery again to remove the bone, we thought everything was fine. Then a week after that, he was in so much pain one night and the dentist office wasn't open. Our only option was to go to the emergency room and see if they could do anything. They couldn't; so we had to wait until the next day to go to the dentist again. Finally the problem was solved.

That was a week and a half ago.

Just yesterday, Alex was moving our mattress into our bedroom. I offered to help, but Alex is a Marine - he thinks he has to be tough alllll the time.. So he didn't let me help. Next thing you know, the bed bends in half and pushes him into the door and he falls to the floor. I thought he hit his head so I ran over to him and all I hear is, "how did that just hurt my balls!?" Sorry to be graphic, but it was hilarious. He had this huge fall and all he hurt was his "man land"? I couldn't stop laughing! But then he started dry heaving... and he wouldn't get up for two hours. We knew something was wrong so we went to the ER... again. Alex was so embarrassed but they found a minor problem that could simply be fixed by antibiotics and rest. We were so thankful it wasn't anything serious; the doctors' at first thought he needed surgery. After being at the hospital for 6 hours, we got out at 12am.

Hopefully nothing else comes up.... There's never a dull moment with Alex :)

... deployment

i don't mean to make my blog into such a sob story ((i promise i'll start being more positive and not so pity-me haha)) but deployments really break people down to the core of who they really are.

i'm learning so much about myself that i've never realized before. i'm such a control freak. i feel like i have to know what's going on at all times, when in reality you CAN'T know. it's the military, that's how it is and it's for their safety. i'm also a big time worrier. i've never worried about anything. i used to be carefree, fun, crazy.. and now i worry constantly, i prefer to be alone more than to be with my friends. it's just weird. i was never like this. i was out everyday with friends.. every single day. now my friends ask me to do something and i just don't want to because i'm afraid if i do, i'll miss a chance to talk to alex. i guess you can say my whole life is pretty much revolving around him. i've got four months down in this deployment... and GOOD thing is, these ways i've been acting have only been starting this past month of april. maybe it's just a phase?
all i know is that when alex calls me and we only talk for a few short minutes, i am the happiest girl in the world. but once he says "but babe, i gotta go now.." my heart DROPS. then he always ends the phone call by saying "i love you" i don't know how many times.. but every time he says it, my heart breaks. it's like saying goodbye to him all over again.
one day you're in his arms, kissing him and laughing, not thinking about anything but being in that moment.... and next thing you know, he's shipped off to another country and all you have is short 5 minute phone calls here and there.. scarce emails.. and lonely nights.
deployments are HARD.
but, we have to give ourselves credit. not every woman can do this.

brianna's series of unfortunate events

so many things happened to me that just made my day so much more worse than it had to be.
first of all, i was already in a bad mood because of things that went on in my weekend - and i can't even explain all that because it would be a book long and none of you would read it haha.
but then you know, i started getting ready for my day, getting dressed for work that started at 9a.m. while trying to just suck up being sad and change my mood on my own by thinking about how alex will be coming home in just three months! so my day started getting better until i realized while i was brushing my teeth that my clock by my bed said a different time than my phone did. my clock was showing 8:20 while my phone was showing 9:20. so i was 20 minutes late to work and i wasn't even dressed yet. i rushed out the door and as i drove down the street, realized i left my purse. i needed it because it had my checks in it that i needed to cash. i turned around yelling at myself, grabbed my purse, and speed off. then as i got down the road, i looked down to see my gas was BELOW empty. i quickly got to the gas station, swiped my card, and started pumping my gas. i had no time to sit there and fill it up, so after i reached 10 dollars, i pulled out the pump. but stupid me, i was still holding onto the lever, so all the gas just kept going and it landed all over my legs!! so i spent an extra like dollar on gas that didn't even make it into my gas tank, but all over me. i was so mad. now i stunk like gasoline.
i finally got to work about an hour late. got yelled at. my job today was to cut tubing at 33 inches. well, i accidentally measured wrong. i cut them all at 32 inches. got yelled at again. finally work was over, and i couldn't wait to get out of there - i was so embarrassed for messing up so much.
after i left, i had to bring my checks to the bank and cash them for my bills. so i got into the drive thru lane and pulled up to the window. then i open up my purse and notice, i don't even have my wallet. then the lady in the window says "hi! how are you?".. so i didn't even say anything, i just drove off, and pretty fast because that too was sort of embarrassing.
so i go to school to look at signing up for classes in the summer. i get into an elevator full of probably ten people. then as soon as the doors start closing, i see this girl running to the elevator trying to get in... then i see everyone in the elevator around me not even move to hold the door open for her. so i think to myself : maybe if i do something good today than today will turn around for me. so i stick out my arm and save the door for her. she comes running in, huffing and puffing, doesn't even say thank you.. and then freaking presses number 1 floor button. i just pissed off every person in this elevator for a person who has to go to the first floor!? i swear, everyone starred at me. they all just wanted to punch me, i know it. and i wanted to punch that girl.
finally, i was done with my day. i was ready to go home, take a shower to get rid of the gas smell, put on pj's and relax. so i walk back to my car, and what do i see? my keys sitting on my front car seat. are you kidding me now?
i needless to say, it was just a messy day. after a messy weekend. when are things gonna start going MY way? i can't really complain though, because life could be so much worse.
it stinks that today had to go the way it did, and on top of that, dealing with this deployment that feels like it's taking forever.

too much going on

my life has changed so much in just a few months.
first i met alex in november.
next we were engaged.
i had to pretty much fight with everyone in my family because all of them didn't agree with alex and i.
then he left for deployment.
me and my mom's issues raised the roof.
i stopped going to class.
i went through a really short time of being depressed ((thank God i got over that quickly)).
i moved out of my parents house.
me and alex made the wedding date for this upcoming december.

that just seems like a lot to me. I'm sure other people are having a lot more on their plate. but for me, this is a lot. my life really has changed so much.. in a way its all just flowing into where its supposed to go though. like my life is coming together so fast.
yet there is still stuff that needs to be worked on. for example, the reason why i moved out of my parents house in the first place. me and my mom. wooooow. that's a HARD subject. we don't get along. at all. shes very stubborn and shes so stuck on being right that its almost crazy. and thing is, i am not the only one that sees it. my friends and a lot of my family has noticed it over the years. i actually think she has paranoid personality disorder.. but that's a whole other story. she just has always had a thing against ME. my dad and i are so close. I'm a daddy's girl, what can i say? we get along very well, we always have something to talk about. and in a way, my mom is jealous of that - which is kind of VERY strange. my mom and i will get in a fight and next thing i know, my dad is in on it and he's agreeing with me. that leads to my mom telling me, "you're gonna be the reason for me and your father every not working out. you're ruining us.. you're the root of all our problems!" yeah.. not too nice. I've been hearing this for the longest time now. so finally, my dad suggested i move out - in no way was he kicking me out.. he just really felt that maybe if me and my mom had time apart and space apart that we would get better. after all, it'd be weird to have it visa versa and have my mom move out haha. so I've been out for about two weeks, going on three. and still, my parents are fighting. so my mom can bark up the tree all day long and try and blame me for her and my dad not getting along, but at the end of the day when her head hits the pillow, she HAS to know that she's the reason for it all. honestly though, i don't think she'll ever admit to it.. not even to herself.

Me and my fiance, Alex, have been engaged since December 26, 2009. So if you do the math, it wasn't that long ago. He left for a 7 month deployment on January 17th 2010.. Just a month later after popping the question. Alex comes back in August ((99 more days!!!!)) and we're getting married December 18th 2010. I know I just threw a lot of dates out there haha.. But truth is, we're moving pretty quick. And no, in no way am I doubting or nervous about it. This is exactly how I want it to be. I've never felt this sure about something. If I could, I'd marry him tonight. But that's obviously not possible! I have to wait a few more months! Anyway, the point I'm trying to get at is that on my end I can see - yes, this is fast.. but even though, I want it more than anything and I really wouldn't have it any other way. My only problem is, I WORRY. Alex will tell me til the sun comes up, that he wants this and that it's going to happen no matter what. And believe me, I know he does. He's paying thousands already for our reception. But for some reason, whenever I can't talk to him ((since he's deployed, we sometimes go weeks without being able to talk)) I start to think otherwise. I get so worried that he's going to change his mind. And it really kills him when I do that. About two weeks ago I was worried about this and he called me and talked to me for THREE hours while on a DEPLOYMENT, and he just kept reassuring me over and over again. I don't know why I let myself worry.. Especially when I honestly have no reason to. See? I am admitting RIGHT THERE that I have NO reason to worry.. Absolutely NONE. But sometimes I just do.. I hate it.
Fortunately, I am NOT worried right now haha.. So that's a very good thing. I just need to stay on top of myself and stay positive. For myself and for Alex. He gets so upset when I worry.

I always wanted to blog, but never got around to it. Now that school is over and my fiance is deployed, I have more than plenty of time to do it! Not really sure what I've got to say, but maybe I'll surprise myself. As of right now, welcome to my blog:)
