So I wanted to give everyone an explanation of why I've been so off and on these last few weeks...

I'm having a baby!!!

Not that gives me a reason not to blog,

but all I was thinking about was the baby ever since I found out!

I was very leery about posting until we had the two ultrasounds.

I have a history of early miscarriage and didn't want to announce and then have to UNannounce!

We are so happy and feel so blessed that this little baby has decided to stick around!

Say hello to Baby T #3!

I am feeling good, not nauseated like I was with the boys, so lets hope it stays that way!

Hopefully I will be back with all kinds of creative ideas.

Right now, I'm just trying to manage the boys and school, and trying to stay awake past 9pm

I'm just going to take a moment and let you all know that I am JEALOUS

of each and every one of you who are posting about fall weather.

It is still in the 90's here in NOLA.

I am researching Halloween costumes for the boys

that will not make them sweat and lose pounds as they trick or treat!

So glad its Thursday....that means tomorrow is FRIDAY and the weekend is here. I SO NEED A WEEKEND!! It's Ok...... that I havent posted on this blog lately because I am SUPER BUSY, with my boys, school & life in general. It's Ok.....that I have eaten fast food 2 of the 4 days this week. (I'll be better next week) It's Ok....that all I want to do when I get home from school is go to bed. It's Ok.....to really want to just sleep for a few days.... It's OK....to so excited about something and then the next minutes feel totally guilty about it. It's Ok....when I say I am going to write all of my post for next week this weekend when I know in reality if I get 1 or 2 done it will be a miracle. It's Ok.....that the main reason I wrote this post is so I could say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my husband!!

This week is Brian's birthday. I try not to put up any Fall/Halloween decor until after his birthday. Once I take down birthday stuff that officially mean its Fall/Halloween time!!

Back to School ~ Pencil Door Hanger

I made this for my classroom back in August. I am just now realizing that I never did the tutorial. Its pretty self explanatory but I thought I would write it all out just in case anyone wants to try it out for themselves.

Here's what I started with.

About a 1/2 yard of burlap, 4 colors of paint, a pair of scissors, oh and I used my glue gun too!

I free handed a pencil shape with my permanent marker.

Then cut out around the shape, leaving a little on the edges.

I hot glued the two pieces together, leaving the end- where the eraser is - open so I could stuff it

I spread out my paint colors and got to work.

I used a garbage bag underneath so that the paint wouldn't bleed through.

I used the bottom of a water bottle to make the circles.

I had to let the yellow paint dry before I could paint the circles,

but I am very pleased with how it turned out.

I used my silhouette to cut out my name in vinyl in a font I liked.

Using the edge of my credit card, I placed my vinyl where I wanted it.

Once all the paint was dry, I started stuffing the inside of the pencil.

I used plastic grocery bags. You could use whatever, stuffing, filling you have on hand.

I hot glued the ends together once it was filled to my liking.

I used some extra black ribbon to add some tabs on the back

so that I could tie a ribbon at the top for my hanger.

And here you have MY version.

It proudly hangs on my classroom door.

I have gotten many compliments on it.

Hurricane Issac Hurrication

Just an FYI all of these pictures were taken on my iphone so they are of poor quality.

Probably taken in the dark by candlelight or flashlight...so some have my blog name others don't.

Picmonkey was acting crazy and I figured

if you wanna steal my crappy hurricane pictures, go ahead.

So Monday @ 1pm

We decided we were staying.

Brian's mom, brother, and grandmother left.

(hindsight = I should have left as well)

Storm was still a tropical storm and they kept assuring us that when it hit land it would be barely a Category 1 hurricane. We were sure we could ride it out and we would be fine.

It took ALL NIGHT Monday and ALL DAY Tuesday for the storm to arrive.

FINALLY around 10pm on Tuesday night the weather started to get bad.

About 11:30pm the electricity went out.

And look who woke up!

Ben Henry was up ALL night.

The weather was pretty scary that night.

The wind was blowing all over the place, it was loud and beating against the windows.

I did NOT enjoy being awake.

I wish I would have taken a sleeping pill of something truthfully.

Brian and I slept ( well tried) with our heads at the foot of our bed

b/c the wind & rain was beating against the windows so loudly.

This was the next day and a half!

Flashlights, candles and a radio!

He did not like being without power.

He kept asking? Can I just try to turn on the TV, and just see if it works?

Poor dude!

We did have the smarts to think to charge our laptops before hand.

we were able to watch a few movies each day.

Here we have the Lion King-

Finally on Wednesday afternoon, we had to get out.

My grandparents had a generator.

We were charging our iphones in our car, but nothing else could be charged in there.

So off we headed into the remnants of the storm, we were safe I promise.

We were there for a couple of hours, we were able to gain a little sanity back.

The kids were able to interact with other people besides us.

We came back and watched more movies.

Thank GOD for that laptop!

By Friday we HAD to get out of the house.

The weather was better it was just a light rain, so we decided, let'em play!

But THEN, we HAD to have a bath.

And they were asking us to conserve water b/c the sewers could possibly back up due to lack of electricity, but seriously, they had been playing in rain water!

I think they enjoyed it!

By Friday the storm was officially over but the devastation around our area is very widespread. Just a few towns over where there is NO levee protection whole communities were DEVASTATED. My cousins house was completed flooded up to the top of her doorways. She has lost everything. She is grateful that she and her family had evacuated and that they were not there or trapped in their home. She has 3 boys under the age of 6 and they will have to rebuild everything. But as she says the most important thing is that they are safe and they are together. Everything is replaceable. They are not!

There are many people still here without power. We just got power back on Saturday night. That many days in a house with two children with no power is MISERY. It will never happen again. I will never stay again. No matter the storm. I will be evacuating! Just as my cousin says, things are replaceable people are not.

Please say a little prayer for all of those who are suffering still from the effects of this storm!

I got an Upgrade- during a Hurricane

Well hello there my friends! Yep, we made it. We weathered the storm. LITERALLY! My Hurricane Issac post will be live tomorrow but today is a little SHOUT OUT to my girl Tiffany Kuehl!

As you can see. My digs have changed. I am "fancy smachy" I have a new layout, new grab button, new tool bar, new social icons, the whole shebang!

I found out about Tiffany from one of my sponsors last month thechirpingmoms.com She had done their blog design and I was really liking it. I took a look at her design blog, seen here, and decided it was time for an UPGRADE. I needed a new look for fall. Everyone upgrades their wardrobe for fall, I upgraded my blog. I put myself on her list, filled out the questionnaire and it was easy as that.

Tiffany was a BREEZE to work with. Tifffany always sends an email when she has finished one blog and you have moved up "THE LIST" and if you start to follow her blog you can see designs she has already done you can pick aspects of each design that you might like in your own blog design. I LOVE LOVED LOVED seeing what she had done for others.

Now I said Tiffany was a BREEZE to work with right? Well that is the best term I can use when it comes to when I need to describe our time going back and forth through email and text. My email was almost non-existent during the "working" time on my blog because I had no electricity! I was in the middle of lock down during Hurricane Issac! I was getting text messages randomly every few hours, she worked non-stop for me and didn't think I was a crazy person! She was awesome for working with me through all for that!!

If you ever need an entire blog re-design or even some as simple as a grab button I highly recommend Tiffany at tkcdesigns! Because as I told her, She rocks my socks, even during a hurricane!!!

Happy Monday everyone!

So while everyone is heading back to work and getting back into routines...today I am sending Eli to his first full day of Kindergarten ( all along :TEARS:)

and preparing for a possible hurricane!

Yep you read that right.

The anniversary of Katrina (the worst hurricane on record for NOLA) is Wednesday

and we have a no so good looking storm churning in the Gulf!

Talk about sucky Monday!!

3.Another shirt made by another local store dirtycoast.com/ after Hurricane Katrina. With all the flooding that went on it was another reminder that with all the water you couldn't take our soul- that would always stay "waterproof."

4.Sesame Street! God ya gotta love them! They are always there when ya need them! Always there to explain the scary stuff for the little guys, when the big people cant find the words.

5. Curvy Girl has a great guide for what you need to be prepared! She also makes the joke that if Jim Cantore shows up in your neck of the woods you are in BIG HUGE trouble! You should have already left and if you haven't its too late, hunker down and GOOD LUCK because no matter where this man goes...the storm is SURE to follow!!

Hello lovely readers! My name is Bree and I blog at The Thing About Joy!

I am a young twenty something Graphic Design Student, a newlywed, Sunday school teacher, oldest of 4 kids, and... I guess a lot more "titles." :))

But if you really knew me... you'd know that I love COLOR. Lots of color. That is what inspires me. It inspires every design I make, everything I sketch, everything I create for my home... All because of how the color has inspired me.

You'd know that I have had a hard time deciding what to major in in college. I was first going for a degree in Marketing, but realized I would end up in a job that I didn't like. I needed something that allowed me to be more creative! Something where I could make something every day, and work with people constantly. That is why I finally figured out I should go for Graphic Design. Now, school starts on Monday and I am so excited to learn more!! Where as before, I would not be excited for school, but instead would dread the long drive, huge classes, and boring subjects. I can't wait for Monday! Although, I will admit, the first day in class I always get nervous! I guess because of meeting new people, finding out if the teacher is nice or not... yeah, I'm a little nervous. :) But very excited too!

If you really knew me you'd know that I love being married. We've had our ups and downs, and school causes trouble sometimes... but I could not be more happy. I can't imagine not having married this man. November 21st will be our 2nd anniversary, and that country song is true... "And I thought I loved you then..."

If you really knew me, you'd know that I doubt myself, but I push myself too. You'd know that I really hate running, but I love spinning. You'd know that I am a HUGE football fan, but I despise baseball. You'd know that I hate action movies, scary movies, or sci-fi... and that when it comes to movies I like feel good, happy, romantic comedies. Nothing sad. :)) I like to keep positive and happy, so why get sad?

One of my favorite quotes that I like to remind myself of often, "Every Artist Was Wonce an Amateur."

Ok so, Monday was my baby's 1st day of preschool.

He was so happy with his "pack-pack."

He walked in, said Hello to his teachers and didn't look back.

I was more sad than he was.

He has been at an in-home sitter before so I guess he was "ready" for school.

Monday was also the day we went to meet Eli's Kindergarten teacher.

He starts Kindergarten this coming Monday.

I can't believe it.

Both of my boys will be in school 5 days a week come next week.

Oh and PS:

REALLY?!?

Our area is slowly creeping into the path of this storm.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL!

Eli's 1st week of school and we are supposed to go to Florida (Perdido Key) for Labor Day!

1) What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

I have always always always wanted to start my own preschool. If I knew I would not fail (and I had the $$$) I would start my own school, birth to five years old. It would totally be my dream. It would be THE school to attend, get into , and we would be the premiere! That's what I would do if I knew I wouldn't fail.

2) If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with the time?

Spend every single second with my boys. Brian's father was diagnosed with Brian cancer and within 6 months we lost him. It was devastating. I know that he spent all his time with us. I know that if I knew when I was going I would be with my children, going on trips, making memories for them to have in the future, and hopefully to share with their children in the future.

3) If a front page news article was written on you, what would the headline be?

4) What is your biggest pet peeve?

People who claim to stay out of drama but are really the ones who are always causing it.

I watch Friends re-runs every.single.night. on Nick at Night (does that make me old?)

I can probably recite the words exactly in time as the characters but that doesnt matter, I seriously, LOVE Friends!

I hope I am not alone when I say that I could watch SATC every single day and not get tired of it.

I have watched the 1st movie proabably a million times and no matter what I am doing, where ever it is in the movie, if it is on T.V. I am stopping to watch it. I love the movie!

My favorite episodes are the last season, I think its because they tied it up so neat.

Secrets on Saturday

1. I am COMPLETELY & TOTALLY overwhelmed with the start of school. I feel like I need to be in 3 places all at once. Things will work themselves out, but I don't know when or how!! I just wish that would happen quickly.

2. I am in COMPLETE & TOTAL denile about the fact that Eli is starting Kindergarten next week. I {know} he's going. We have bought supplies, uniforms, lunch box, all the good stuff. But I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that he is going to a REAL school where he knows no one and neither do I. (He's always been at a school where I work)

3. I keep finding myself stuggling to find time & things to blog about. Sure I could write about what I wore everyday but do y'all really want to read that? I also feel like I have no time to sit down and write anything of importance, I dont wanna write about insignificant things day after day.

4. I do have two awesome giveaways going on for the next two weeks so even if I have nothing of importance to tell you and I am only posting cute outfits and stuff about football...make sure you come back Monday for Pinning, I will always do that...

WHO DAT!?!

Saints are playing tonight!!

Kindergarten Testing....we made it through

So today was Eli's Kindergarten testing.

Did I "know" he was going to do great? Yes.

Did I still have anxiety? Yes.

Did I still have him naming every letter we saw? Yes.

Was I still asking him letter sounds? You betcha.

Was I asking him to sequence things? You betcha.

Was I asking him to rhyme words? Yep.

Why was I so freaked out about this? No clue.

Do I know that some children enter Kindergarten knowing little to nothing except what they learn from television? Sad, but yes.

Do I know this first hand? Again, sad but yes.

( remember I teach Pre-K & K)

My big boy was prepared for Kindergarten testing because

he went to a 3 and a 4 year old preschool program.

I made sure he knew letters, numbers, colors, the basics, as he entered Kindergarten.

All the other stuff was lagniappe which I totally credit his Pre-K 4 teacher KENDALL NICHOLS

(Yep, I just wrote out her name on my blog- oh the horror!! LOL )I'll tell her tomorrow :)

I was so nervous but he did it all, answered all their questions, stumbled here and there and if he didn't know something he just said,

I don't know.

And I am A-OK with that.

Now two Mondays from now when he begins his first day at a school where he knows no one and I cant get to him ask me again how I feel because right now I am so proud of my boy. On the 27th I will be a WRECK!!

Just thought I'd share a picture of me and my sweet handsome husband!

Today, I thought I'd share one of my most favorite recipes!

You see, I'm pregnant with a little baby boy who is expected to arrive at the end of September.

And I've had some crazy pregnancy cravings...

so a few weeks ago I made some soft serve ice cream from BANANAS.

Yes, if you have a Pinterest, you know what I'm talking 'bout. Delicious!

So you want the recipe? Here's the one I used:

: this makes enough for 2 to 3 people.

Ingredients:

[need food processor/blender]

4 Bananas (cut up and frozen)

3 heaping teaspoons of Cocoa

1/8 cup of milk

2 teaspoons of Peanut Butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 teaspoon of sugar/honey/any sweetner you choose

Directions:

1. Cut up your bananas and freeze them.

2. The next day put them in your food processor or blender & Blend well!

3. Then add the rest of the ingredients and continue to blend until SMOOTH.

4. Then pour in your favorite serving dish... and Enjoy!

Yummy.
