We Have Moved!

I can't believe how long it has been since we posted. Jaxson is almost 9 now. He is doing well. He does have corns on all his feet, so that is sad. I use the dremel on them to make them less painful. I really wish he didn't have them.

In December of 2024, we sold our tiny condo at the beach in Galveston and we moved to Florida. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies because we packed whatever would fit into our van and headed down the highway. Poor Jaxson had to ride on the floor. He was a trooper though. I am sure he misses the beach, but now he has a bigger place with a yard. He also has a golf cart that he rides in daily. He sees rocket launches from his yard. Wildlife is all around us. He seems to really love his life here.

Home Again - Part 3

Well, we just realized that we didn't finish telling you about the rest of our trip home. I don't know if we even remember the rest. 😂

After we left Bennett Springs in Missouri, we drove through Oklahoma. I don't think we stopped anywhere fun. I know that Mom wanted to stop at a few Route 66 attractions but Dad said we didn't have time. We spent two nights at Ray Roberts State Park. We had planned on just one night, but then the folks decided to add a second night. We had to move sites to do that. The first night, we were parked next to a nice paved trail. the trail goes around the entire park. The only problem was that our site was next to water and the mosquitoes were bad.

We enjoyed staying at this park. The trail is really nice. The sites were nice, but they were gravel and I don't like walking on gravel.

As much as I like traveling, it sure was nice to see my beach again. We are back home and back into our routine. We will be taking another trip in December.

The Greyhound Who Loves Island Life

Home Again! Part 2

I forgot to tell you something funny that happened when we were geocashing. The geocash was supposed to be by a business. Grandpa went down some steps and yelled "I found it!" Mom looked and he was holding up a rat bait station. Mom yelled that it was a rat bait station but he is hard of hearing, so he couldn't hear her. He started trying to open it up. Mom kept yelling "NO, NO!" She then started laughing really hard. When she got back in the car, Grandma asked if we found the geocash. She started laughing again as she told Grandma about Grandpa holding the rat bait station over his head thinking it was his prize. 😂

We drove to Louisiana, MO with Grandma and Grandpa the Thursday before we left. We put flowers on Dad's Grandparents graves. Grandma and Grandpa also showed the folks where they want their ashes spread when they die. They thought they had a spot picked out but they said there were too many trees and they wouldn't be able to see the river. They chose another spot that is really pretty and actually where Grandma's sister's ashes were spread. We ate lunch in that location. The weather was beautiful.

We left Grandma's on Monday and headed to Bennett Springs State Park. Grandpa came along because he likes to trout fish too. We had a great site our first night. It had a lot of grass around it. We had to move the second night because someone else had alread booked the site. The weather was great! The evenings and mornings were cool. Mom and I enjoyed walking around while Dad and Grandpa fished.

The Greyhound Who Is Happy To Be Back At The Beach

Home Again! Part One

We are home from our trip. We were gone 16 days!

Our first two nights, we stayed at Eisenhower State Park. The folks toured Eisenhower's birth home. He was actually born in the house because back then women had babies at home. His folks didn't own the house, but rented it. The furnishings in the house didn't belong to the family because many other families lived there after he left. He didn't remember living there because he left as a small child and moved to Abilene, KS.

Next, we drove into Oklahoma. We stayed at Twin Bridges @ Grand Lake State Park. We stayed in the part of the park that was near a boat launch. We thought it would be fun to watch the boats. There were a lot of snow geese in the water.

We bought new windshield covers for the van. We can see out but people can't see in.

That evening we drove into Miami, OK to eat at a restaurant that has been around since the 1960's. It is called Ku Ku Burger. The burgers were good and the fried mushrooms were even better according to Mom. I am not allowed to eat mushrooms, so I can't tell you if they are good.

The next day, we drove to Grandma's house where we stayed for 11 days. We did geocashing, attended a wedding and we ate way too much food. I enjoyed spreading out on Grandma's big rug.

Getting Ready For Another Road Trip!

We are getting ready to leave for another road trip soon. We are headed back to Missouri for a family wedding.

Dad has been the president of our HOA board here at the condo for the past year. His term is up on Sept 17th and he is not running for re-election. It has been a very frustrating year and we better leave it at that. He has been counting down the days since January, so that should tell you something. 😁

Mom's car is in the shop. Two weeks ago, we went to McDonald's. We haven't been to McDonalds in maybe a year. On the way home from picking up a Big Mac, a Quarter Pounder with cheese and a basket of fries, the car acted like it couldn't get out of first gear. Mom thought for sure that she would get points taken off of her Liberty Mutual RightTrack savings because of our hard shifting. We made it home and then Dad decided to take the car out and it acted fine for him even though the engine light remained on. He drove it for a while and then it shifted hard for him. The folks took it into the shop and it took ten days for them to look at it and as feared, they had to order a part. We had this same part replaced just two years ago. The part is on back order and some people have had to wait five months for it. We don't know when we will have our car back. Mom has considered just selling it, but that is probably not the best option. She has been driving the van to do her Walmart pick-ups. She doesn't mind drivng it but she doesn't like backing up because there are no windows. She has to use the mirrors and the cameras. She avoid backing up when possible but you have to back-up at a Walmart pick-up. The van is very tall, so there are limits of where it can go, like no drive-thrus. At least we don't have to have a car since Mom doesn't work. Can you imagine if you had to have a car and the parts take five months or more to get?

I still enjoy delivering packages and magazines to Mom.

The Greyhound Who Is Ready To Leave The Texas Heat Behind

All Is Good!

Well, we are terrible bloggers! The last you heard from us, we were on the road. Gosh, that could have people wondering if we made it home. Yes, we did. We have been home for probably a month.

One of the things that we did on the way home was visit Laura Ingalls Wilder's home in Mansfield, MO. Mom had never read the Little House books but she watched the TV show. She started reading the books before we arrived at her home and finished all of them shortly after we returned home. She found the books interesting because it gave her a really good insight on how people really lived during that time. There are two homes to tour as well as a museum. The house tours did not go as planned as the tour guide refused to give the tour as scheduled because she needed a break after having school kids come through. The ticket agent had told her and another couple that the tour would take place after the school kids, but the guide rudely said no. It really threw off our schedule and Mom had to rush through the museum. She was not happy. We had a long drive ahead of us and she was stressed. Tickets are $18 a person. She debated going because it seemed pricey and then having a rude tour guide did not help. She would love to go back and tour the musuem again especially after she read the books and many of the items mentioned in the books are there, but she doubts she will.

Laura's daughter, Rose, had this house built for their parents. They lived in it several years, but moved back to the farm house for their remaining years.

On our way home, we stopped at Bennett Springs so that Dad and Grandpa could go trout fishing. Grandpa didn't travel with us, but he came with us to Bennett Springs.

I celebrated my fifth birthday on May 12th!

My folks are celebrating their 36th wedding anniversary today. Mom made a banana split cake for dessert. They ate at Soul 2 Soul yesterday. They had fried ribs. Mom says it was delicious. I wouldn't know.

Tomorrow is my 3rd Gotcha Day! Mom said she is going to take me to Petsmart. I haven't been there in two years!

That is a quick update to let everyone we are still alive and doing well.

The Greyhound Who Is Now Five

Still On The Road

This trip isn't really exciting, so we haven't posted any updates.

We spent the first night at a Camping World in Tulsa. We didn't get there until after 7 p.m. We didn't have electric hook ups, but we were able to watch TV because we have a battery that can run our lights and TV. The next day we headed towards Grandma's house. We stopped in Lebanon, MO at the Russell Stover Outlet and guess what? It is closed for good. Mom was really sad. The folks decided to stop at a Stuckey's to pick up a pecan roll to take to Grandma's. It wasn't as good as they remembered.

We arrived at Grandma's on Friday afternoon. The next day we drove to my Dad's sister's house. We had a small family reunion. Dad's nephew is in the Navy and he and his new wife were in town. Also, another nephew was in town from Florida. They hadn't seen the Navy guy since he entered the military four years ago.

On Sunday, we headed to Hawn State Park which is in Ste. Genevieve, MO. Mom's great grandparents settled in that area when they came to America from Germany. She had been wanting to find her great grandparents graves and she succeeded. They were really hard to read but Mom had been given directions from a cousin on where they should be and he was correct.

Hawn State Park is nice but there is no cell service or TV reception. It was a very quiet time.

We spent two days at Hawn and then we went back to Grandma's house. We have been here since. We have done a lot of eating. We have seen almost all of Dad's family. We leave tomorrow and we are headed to Bennett Springs to do some trout fishing.

Roadtrip Time!

I know, it has been a while. Mom seems to forget to post anything unless we are traveling. Well, we are on the road again. This time, we are headed to see family. We will be staying at Grandma's for about a week.. I love staying there! We just left this morning and it is a two day trip, so we will be there tomorrow evening.

We were supposed to go to Gulf Shores, AL in February for Mom's birthday, but I got hurt. It wasn't a serious injury but the folks thought it was best not to travel with me. It is rather embarrassing to talk about my injury. You see, I fell off my folks bed and when I tried to stop myself and climb back up, I scraped my leg on this board on the side of the bed. I ended up going to the vet. It was $155. 😒 He couldn't stitch it because greyhounds have very thin skin and he said it would just tear more. My wound was the size of a quarter but it bleed every time I walked. I wore a bandage that the vet put on me for 48 hours as required. Boy, did I scream when he put it on my leg. I don't like anything on my legs. It took three weeks for it to heal which is better than the last time when it took two months. The folks have baby proofed that board, so I shouldn't get hurt on it again.

I am still busy carrying packages for Mom. I think it is fun and people laugh when they see me.

Oh, the other big thing going on is my corns. I have corns on three feet. I have some feet with two corns and one has three. It is driving Mom crazy. She is trying all sorts of things to remove them. I don't like wearing boots, so don't even tell her to do that. Joey had one corn and she thought that was terrible, so imagine how she feels with a dog with six corns. Joey wore a boot. I think we are making some progress but it will be a life long problem for me.

The Greyhound Who Travels In A van

Just Call Me Mr. December 2022

That's right, I am Mr. December in the Celebrating Greyhounds 2022 Calendar. All of the folks' greyhounds have been in the calendar but I am the first to have a big picture. Scout and I were both in the desktop version which is a nice size photo but Jack and Joey only had small pictures in the wall calendar. This has been Mom's goal for something like 12 years. She was really surprised when she received the calendar because she thought once again that my picture would be small. So, Mom can cross this off her bucket list. 😀

We haven't been doing much because Omicron is really bad here. Our numbers are much worst than Delta ever was and we thought that was bad. We did go camping over New Year's. That is actually safer for us than staying home. We live in a high rise, so we run into a lot of people. We went camping to avoid the loud fireworks that occur on the beach. The temperatures were in the 80's, so it was nice but warm. We went on a few hikes and ate hamburgers and steak. It was fun.

The Greyhound Who Is A Big Deal To His Mom 😁

The New Recliners Have Arrived!

Mom has been stalking the delivery of our two recliners for the past week. They both shipped from North Carolina on the same day but when they made a stop over in Georgia, only one went on to Texas. A few days later the second chair left Georgia and made its way to Texas. Mom was a little nervous but she was happy when they both ended up at the Houston facility.

Mom had planned on donating our old chairs to a thrift store here that also does pick up of items. Unfortuntely, they were not able to pick up the old chairs this week. She checked around but all the places that pick up items for a fee were too expensive. She did not want to pay $375 for the pick up of the chairs, so she went to Plan C which was for her and Dad to take the chairs to Goodwill.

Yesterday, Dad decided that they should go ahead and try to get the chairs out of the unit since rain was predicted for today. He was concerned that they might have trouble getting the chairs out in one piece. Recliners easily come apart but ours had slip covers over them and Dad had them tied on good and he really didn't want to have to remove the covers and take the chairs apart. In the end, the folks were able to get the chairs out our door without too much trouble. They then put the first chair on the back of the van and took it to Goodwill. They made two trips to Goodwill and the twin chairs confused the workers but it all worked out and was much easier than Mom expected.

This morning, Mom washed our rugs. We have Ruggables which are nice because they can be washed in a regular washing machine. She then used a steam mop to clean our floors. She was really busy and sweaty.

Our chairs arrived around 10 a.m. Mom really likes the color of the chairs. They are a little stiff right now, but she said they will be better in a few days. She is working on breaking hers in right now. She is tired from moving chairs and cleaning.

Mom is very happy with how easy it was to get the new chairs from Amazon. She chose a delivery time when she placed her order and it never changed. It was a good experience.

The Greyhound Who Is Tired After All The Activity With Chairs

The Challenges Of Buying Furniture During A Pandemic

We live in a very small place. We only have two recliners, a desk chair, a bed and two chairs that live on the balcony. When the pandemic started, Mom told Dad that their recliners were going to be worn out before it ended. It hasn't ended but the chairs are pretty worn out. Dad has a pillow that he puts under his butt for comfort. Last week, Mom was sitting in her recliner and we heard a loud noise that we thought was in the kitchen, but it was her chair! It sounded like something exploded! It turns out it was a spring that came off the chair. We only found part of it. It must have been connected to the foot rest because now it just pops open when she sits down. She says it is less work. 😂

Mom has been searching for new recliners on and off for about a year. She found some she liked at Sam's Club a few years ago and she hoped she could buy them, but the store doesn't have them and she was scared to buy a chair that she hadn't sat in. She thinks she found the chairs on their website but the reviews are terrible. She looked at the local furniture store several months ago, but she didn't like anything.

If you have shopped for furniture, you know that most places do not have anything in stock. We have been told the wait is about eight weeks. Grandma said she was told six months. 😦

Last week, Mom started looking again. She decided to look at Amazon. She really didn't think she would find anything she liked and she really didn't want to buy a chair that she hadn't tried out. She was surprised to find a chair that she liked and it was an Ashley Furniture chair. Mom checked the Ashley Furniture website and they showed the same chair. Mom called the store and asked if they had it on display and they said they did. The folks left the Island and drove the 1/2 hour to the store. There was a line of salesmen waiting at the door. Mom showed them the chair on her phone that she wanted to see. The salesman looked it up and then escorted the folks to the chair. The chair was not the same color and it included a massager and a heater but the man said it was the same chair. The folks both sat it in and they liked it. The salesman said they could order it in our color and it would take about eight weeks. It was $150 more than Amazon. The folks said they needed to think about it.

The folks decided to order the chairs from Amazon. Easy, right? WRONG! Mom put the two recliners in her cart and when she tired to check out, it said they couldn't deliver to us. Mom tried it several times. She put Grandma's address in and it said the same thing so it wasn't that they wouldn't deliver to the Island. Grandma lives a few states away from us. Mom then tried the same chair in a different color and there were no problems with that chair. Mom didn't want that color though. She decided to see if the problem would fix itself, but four days later, she still couldn't order it. She then decided to chat with Amazon. She thought that would be an ordeal but the representative said he showed they could deliver to us. He told her to clear her cache and cookies and try again. It still didn't work. He said it must be a glitch in their system. Mom figured at that point she could just call and place and order but decided to wait. She started having second thoughts. She was also aggravated that clearing all the cookies and caches also cleared her passwords and she had to figure those out again. Four days later and she is still finding issues.

Throughout the week, Mom kept watching the recliners on Amazon and the number of available kept going down so she knew that people were ordering them, but we still could not. Last night, it said they were down to six, so Mom decided to try it again and guess what? She was able to place the order! Our new recliners are scheduled to be here next Thursday. They have already shipped.

I sure hope they like the new recliners. They can be returned but we really don't want to go through all of that. We also have to get rid of our current chairs. We can't do that until the new ones arrive and then we have to do it immediately because we don't have room for four chairs. It will all work out.

The Greyhound Who Is Enjoying Cool Weather Today

Petroglyph National Monument

We decided to make one more stop at a national monument on our trip. This one is called Petroglyph National Monument. This was another one that I was allowed to walk with the folks. Mom really enjoyed it until Dad told her that we needed to get a move on because we had to be at our campground before sunset and it was further away than he thought. We didn't get to walk the entire trail. We walked about half and it was an easy walk.

The rest of the day was spent driving. We arrived at Leasburg Dam State Park about 5 p.m. I did not like this place at all. Gravel, gravel, gravel. I had to walk across gravel to get to a trail that was a cactus garden trail. Mom kept an eye out for cactus and rattlesnakes while we walked it. There was some dried out grass at the end of it but no matter how long Mom tried to get me to poo, I refused. She was really worried I would get her up in the middle of the night but I am no fool, I didn't want to walk out there again.

We left the next morning early because it was another long day of driving but Mom said we would be back in Texas. We crossed the state line early in the day, but I didn't see grass for quite a while. We found some fake grass at a gas station and I was happy with that. We arrived at South Llano State Park around 4 p.m. There really wasn't grass, but there was dirt and weeds and that was fine with me. We forgot to take pictures here. Out site was nice and it was close to the restrooms. Mom showered here but didn't like it because of the spiders. They were large.

The next day we hit the road around 8 a.m. and we pulled into the parking lot of our condo at 3 p.m. It was so nice to be home. I was so excited when I walked into the condo that I jumped on the folks' bed and ran in circles.

It has been nice being home. Everyone knows my name here and they all asked how my trip was and they said they missed me.

We were gone for seven weeks! I missed my beach and my friends, but I am ready to go again. Mom said we are going away for a few days around New Year's, so I guess I have that to look forward to.

Petrified Forest National Park

Our next stop on our way home was Petrified Forest National Park. This turned out to be one of Mom's favorite National Parks. They actually allow dogs to walk on the trails, but it was so cold and windy that I only did one. We actually broke out the winter coats while we were there.

Mom has been getting her National Park Passport Book stamped since 2012. She has wanted to get the collector editions book but no one had it until this park. She was so excited and it was priced below what she saw it for online at the National Park's store before it sold out. The employee told her they were increasing the price at the end of the week. She plans on copying her old stamps and putting them in this one.

We planned to stay in a Walmart parking lot, but the temperature was supposed to be 21 degrees, so once again we had to scramble for a campground. Mom called several until we came up with one. It was actually called Route 66 Casino RV Park in Albuquerque, NM. This was a nice park and it had two dog parks. The dog parks had grass! We didn't know for sure if they would accept us because we are in a van and they are more upscale. They had one site left and they gave it to us.

The Greyhound Who Was Not Allowed To Pee on The Petrified Wood

I stood on a corner in Winslow, AZ!

After being on the road for 6.5 weeks, it was time to begin the long trip home. Mom said there was a corner in Winslow, AZ that she wanted to stand on. I didn't really understand until she sang me the song. I have to admit, it was fun to stand on that corner.

Our plan was to stay in the visitor center's parking lot, but the folks didn't know how safe it would be and high winds were predicted for the night. We decided to drive on and stay in a campground, but it was not easy to find a vacancy. We ended up staying in a place called OK Campground and that about describes it. I hated it because the dog park was gravel. Mom and I walked and walked until I finally found a spot to do my poo. There were big burrs we found while walking so that was not good. Mom refused to take a shower there because the shower house was old and dirty. It was a safe place to stay and we were parked between two big RVs and we didn't feel the wind that got up to 50 mph.

We explored a little bit of Route 66. Mom wants to do the whole thing but count me out until Arizona gets rid of their gravel.

The Greyhound Who Hates Gravel

Sighthound Shivoo 2021

We came to Kanab, UT for the greyhound gathering which is called the Sighthound Shivoo because it is not just for greyhounds anymore. There were other sighthounds there.

The event began on a Friday night. The first event was a talent show. I did not participate, but I definitely could have because I know how to sit, stay, lay down. Those were the basic things that the dogs did. I also am an excellent package carrier. Mom decided that I probably didn't want to get on stage and she was correct. I did learn how to bark at the event. Most of the greyhounds did a roo which is basically a howl. I just barked and at the end I did a roo. I tried to get the rooing going again but no one listened to me.

The second day of the event, we were supposed to go on a hike. It was canceled due to rain. It rained all day. The event was supposed to be held outside, but it had to be moved inside. I don't really like to be stuck inside with other hounds because I don't like hounds sneaking up on me and sniffing me while I am relaxing, so I stayed in the van. The folks went to the event in the afternoon to listen to a few speakers and to shop. There was all you can eat pizza from Pizza Hut for dinner. An auction was held and grab bags were given out.

Saturday was our parade. I dressed in my Mardi Gras outfit. There was supposed to be music, but there was a problem with it, so it didn't start working until we were done. I won a collar for my costume. Mom was happy about that. The afternoon was another day of auctions and grab bags. I won a coat and a purple leash that goes well with my Mardi Gras outfit. Lunch was chicken pitas but it wasn't really chicken. We spent the evening at Best Friends which is an animal sanctuary. We took a driving tour of Best Friends earlier in the week. It was a chilly night at Best Friends. It was held at Angels Landing. There was a happy hour with wine, beer, nuts and dog treats. There were also auctions and grab bags.

The last day of the event was on a Sunday. I participated in the Blur of Fur. This is where the hounds show off their running skills. The folks didn't think I would run because I don't like to run. I rarely run when given the chance. I found the event very exciting. I loved watching the other dogs take their turn to run. Each dog runs by themselves with their Mom or Dad calling them. I was more than ready when it was my turn, however, just as I was ready to show my stuff, they stopped the action. The dog before me didn't want to stop running and they couldn't catch him. I had to wait. I lost a little bit of my excitement but I was still clocked at 15 mph by the radar gun. Mom said I would have been faster if they hadn't made me wait. The folks were really impressed with me. There is a video but Mom can't make it work here.

After the Blur of Fur, I decided I was done with the event and went to the van and watched TV. The folks had lunch which was an Indian Taco. There was another auction and the last of the grab bags were handed out. That was the end of the event.

We enjoyed the event. The people were nice and it was well organized. We were given nice program booklets that told us where everything was and it included maps. The event included three meals and there was more than enough food. That has not been the case at the other event we have attended.

We enjoyed our time in Kanab, but with the event over it was time to hit the road and held home.

Little Hollywood Museum and Pipe Spring National Monument

We did a little sightseeing around Kanab yesterday. Kanab has been the shooting location of over 100 movies and TV shows and it has the nickname of Little Hollywood. In the 50's and 60's, many westerns were shot here. We visited a museum called Little Hollywood Museum. It is free museum. They have several of the buildings from old movies set up outside. Dad is a big Clint Eastwood fan and there were two buildings from his movie Outlaw Josey Wales.

We then drove to Pipe Spring Naional Monument. Pipe Spring National Monument is rich with American Indian, early explorer and Mormon pioneer history. The folks spent a very short time here because I couldn't go on the hike with them. They were not able to tour the building because of Covid.

Mom said she has been having dreams about canyons and red dirt. She said she needs a change of scenery.

We Finally Made It To Kanab And A Day At The North Rim Of The Grand Canyon

We finally made it to Kanab, UT. This is where the greyhound event is being held this weekend. There are signs all over town promoting it.

Kanab is a nice town. There are two grocery stores and several restaurants. The grocery stores are still pricey, but not as bad as other places we have been on this trip. There is not a Walmart or a Target. We haven't seen a Walmart since we left Colorado. Mom has been frustrated with the high prices. Oh and don't get us started on the cost of gas on this trip. Our budget was blown halfway through the trip and we still have to drive home.

We arrived here on a Saturday. The campground has a dog park that I love. I am not thrilled with the gravel that I have to walk on to get to it but our site is about as close as it can be to it, so I am happy. There are several dogs here. Another greyhound arrived yesterday. I know that there will be a few more as the week goes on.

On Sunday, we drove to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The folks said it is totally different from the South Rim. When you drive to the North Rim, you go through quite a bit of woodsy area. The trees are beautiful right now. The pictures of the trees were taken inside the van and the windshield was dirty as you can see from the photos. Only 10% of the Grand Canyon visitors come to the North Rim. We had a 25 minute wait to get into the park because there was only one employee taking the payment. It is crazy that we had to wait that long.

There are two trails that dogs are allowed on but we didn't go on any of those. I was fine with that.

There is really a lot to do and see in and around the Kanab area. We have a busy week planned.

Zion National Park

We arrived at Zion Canyon Campground on a Tuesday. We drove through a good part of Zion on our way to the campground. There is a tunnel that you must drive through and if you are too big you must pay a fee and then they shutdown the two way traffic so that the oversized vehicles can fit through. We closed in our rearview mirrors to make us smaller but it wasn't necessary because there was a bigger vehicle in front of us. He had to pay the $15 permit fee and we and many others after him were able to travel through for free. We lucked out. We left on a Saturday and we again lucked out because the park was so crowded that they just took turns letting groups of cars go though the tunnel for free.

The campground was better than Mom and I expected. It had a paved road and the sites were a red sand. There were a few places with grass.

We have seen a lot of tents on top of trucks but never on top of a camper.

The first night we were there, we decided to walk into town for an ice cream. We were actually in town, but the ice cream place we wanted to go to was about a 1/2 mile away. It was a really fun walk.

The second day, the folks decided to just stay home with me because there was a threat of rain. I am not scared of rain, but the campground had two flash floods this year and Mom didn't want to leave me alone. The first flash flood was on July 2nd and it destroyed the hotel and office. Our site was just down from the office, so it was a little scary to think we could have been there. It ended up not raining after all. We did take a very long hike on a trail that dogs are allowed on. The folks thought it was 3.5 miles roundtrip, but now we think it was seven miles roundtrip. We turned around at about mile three, we think. We may have walked six miles. We don't know for sure. We were definitely tired.

I ended up getting pretty sick the second night. I had the Big D and I was sick all night long. I had it the day before we arrived at Zion, but it was not that bad. This time no one got any sleep. Mom was preparing to take me to the vet when I finally calmed down and went to sleep. The folks stayed home with me all day again.

Finally, on the third day, the folks were able to go into Zion again. Mom had not been excited about Zion because you have to take a shuttle. She doesn't like to be on someone else's schedule and with Covid, she really didn't want to be on a shuttle bus with people. Masks are required at the national parks and also on the shuttles, so she felt a little better. The folks planned on taking the town shuttle into Zion and then taking the Zion shuttle. The town shuttle which had a pick up right outside our park was packed, so they ended up walking almost the entire way into Zion which really wasn't that far. However, the shuttle stopped at the last stop before the park and picked them up. They then got on the Zion shuttle. The folks ended up taking a two mile hike. They took the trail that leads to The Narrows. The Narrows is a hike that you do through the water. They only did the hike to the water.

We really don't know why people love Zion such much and why it is so popular. I guess it is because of the hikes such as The Narrows and Angels Landing but if you are not into hiking, then to us, it wasn't that great. Have you heard of Angeles Landing? If not, check it out on YouTube. It is a really scary hike where you use chains to climb up the mountain. There is no way my Mom would ever do it. She has found that she really does not like hiking that much especially where she can fall off a mountain or a cliff. She gets really scared.

I am feeling much better.

We left on a Saturday and made our way to Kanab, UT where the big greyhound event is happening and grocery prices are better.

Bryce Canyone and Kodachrome Basin State Park

On the last full day of our stay at Ruby's Campground, we headed back into Bryce Canyon. We took the paved trail that dogs are allowed on. It was a fun walk.

After we got back to the campground, the folks decided not to waste the day, so we drove to Kodachrome Basin State Park. It is a small park and the fee is $10 a car. We walked on a trail there. I was glad when it was over because I was tired.

Our next stop is Zion National Park.

Bryce Canyon

We arrived at our campground, Ruby's Inn Campground and RV Resort on Friday. Basically, Ruby owns a good section of this town. He has restaurants, motels, tours, stores and a very large campground. The general store is quite pricey. A can of Spam was over $8! Canned tuna and chicken were just as high. We did not buy anything there. There is a town nearby called Tropic. They have a very small grocery store and we were able to pick up some essentials there for not a lot more than at home.

The campground is somewhat nice. We ended up with a decent site. We pulled into our site instead of backing in because it was harder backing in with all the pine trees and when we backed in, it was so unlevel that we didn't think we could sleep with our heads going downhill. Our spot is right off the paved street, so it is perfect for me. There is a huge lawn in front of our site but it says "NO DOGS ON GRASS". So, we found another nice patch of grass around the pool that doesn't have signs. There are several nice areas around the park, so I am happy here. While were are quire happy with our spot, we can definitely see why other campers would not be happy at all with theirs. I think we have one of the best spots in the place.

Mom has been very excited to visit Bryce Canyon. She wanted to see the HooDoos and they did not disappoint. We all felt this national park is the best that we have seen. We really like all the paved overlooks and I am even allowed on those. They have a paved trail from Sunrise Point to Sunset Point that dogs are allowed on and I loved it. I wish more national parks allowed dogs to walk around like this one does.

The weather has been really nice. The highs are in the 70's and at nice, it is quite cool. It was 37 when we woke up this morning.

The Greyhound Who Is Losing Weight From All The Hiking

Capitol Reef National Park

Today, we visited Capitol Reef National Park. We arrived last night and we stayed at Wonderland RV Park. This is my favorite campground. It has grass! It also has a dog park. There are cows, horses and a buffalot in the pasture behind us. Mom said the showers are clean and they are heated. It was 40 degrees this morning and Mom appreciated having heat in the shower room. She said the restrooms are clean. We had TV channels which was really the first time in probably three weeks. The wifi is really good too! We wish we could stay longer than two nights.

Capitol Reef National Park is small and different. There are orchards where you can pick the fruit. We only saw apples and they were too high on the tree for us to reach. There is also a store that sells pies and other items. The folks bought a cinnamon roll and pecan syrup.

We took a drive down a gravel road that was beautiful but scary because the road was so narrow. It was two way traffic.

The folks took a hike to see the pioneer register which was where some of the pioneers in the area carved their names into the rocks.

As you can see the park is beautiful. We had a nice time here. The next stop is Bryce Canyon.

The Greyhound Who Is Recharged With Grass Under His Feet

Oops, We Thought We Were Leaving

We woke up on Tuesday and planned to head to our next campground. We were all ready to leave Canyonlands RV Park. We were slow getting up because our next place is just a few hours away. Mom checked to see the check-in time at the next place and then realized we were not checking in until Wednesday. She thought maybe they had booked something wrong but then realized we were here until Wednesday. We were kind of disappointed because we were ready to leave.

The folks really couldn't figure out how they wanted to spend the day. Dad asked Mom if she wanted to eat out or go to a museum. Mom preferred eating out because cooking in the van is not easy. She chose to a place called Milt's Stop N Eat. It has been around since 1954. Mom loves these type of places. It was a beautiful day, so the folks chose to walk the two mile round-trip.

Mom loved that the seating is all outside. They ordered burgers, onion rings and a coffee shake for Dad and a cherry shake for Mom. They said it was good. They did not bring me even a bite.

After they returned home from eating, we took the van to a carwash. It was an expensive carwash. It was a do it yourself and it still cost us $13. We are used to under $5.

The McDonald's is hiring here. $19 an hour. We do not know how expensive a Big Mac is because the dining room is closed and our van is too tall to fit through the drive-thru.

The Greyhound Who Thinks He Is Finally Leaving Moab, UT tomorrow

Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park

We went to Canyonlands National Park on Sunday. Once again we were up at 5 a.m. Mom as one picture to share today. You know the story, the rest are trapped on her camera until she has better wifi to get them off.

We do have pictures to share with you from Dead Horse Point State Park. I was even able to get out of the van and see the sights because it is a state park. I had a blast meeting people and walking around.

Mom and I both thought Dead Horse Point State Park was so much better than Canyonlands. It is $20 per carload to get in, but dogs are allowed to walk the trails.

The Greyhound Who Enjoyed Walking at Dead Horse Point

Arches National Park

We arrived in Moab on a Friday. We took a scenic drive into Moab. It had a lot of canyons. No pictures because they are on Mom's camera and she is having issues.

We stayed at a campground called Canyonlands Resort and RV Campground. Their map shows they have an off-leash dog area. We assumed they meant a dog park. It also shows the area in green which lead us to believe they have grass. They do not have a dog park and there is not any grass at all. 😡 We spent four nights there and never even found an area that was marked for dogs. We met several other dog owners who felt that they misrepresented the dog area. I hated it there because I do not like walking on gravel at all. I look like an old man taking each step slowly. The mornings that we headed to the National Parks, the folks drove me to McDonald's so that I could take care of business on grass. I had to face the gravel in the evenings, but that was just to get out of the campground. We would then walk on the sidewalk until we came to grass. We found some lucious grass not far from the campground.

I never knew that when you went to a National Park, you had to get up early. We were up at 5 a.m. just to beat the heat and the crowds. We weren't the only ones. There are a lot of people that got up early to see the sunrise. We went to Arches National Park twice. We went on a Saturday and a Monday. On Monday, the folks hiked for two miles to see the world's largest arch. We were out of the park by 9:25 a.m. and we were shocked to see the line of people waiting to get inside. The sign said the park was closed and to come back in 3-5 hours due to the crowd size.

The Greyhound Who Hates Gravel

Colorado National Monument

We spent a long day of mountain driving to reach Colorado National Monument. The folks both agreed that they do not like mountain driving. We didn't have any issues, but Dad said it was stressful. He used to drive our 45 feet motor home with a Jeep attached through the mountains, so the van should be easy. He said it left him exhausted though.

We stayed at Saddlehorn Campground in Colorado National Monument. There are no hook-ups there, but you are allowed to use a generator from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. We used ours in the afternoon because it was about 90 degrees. It cooled off at night though, so we were fine with our fan.

Unfortunately, Mom is having a really hard time getting photos uploaded from her camera. The above photos are from her camera. The wifi is not good and she is almost out of data. She is not happy. We have a lot more photos. We may try to do an update once we are back home.

Back to this place. We actually boondocked here. There was no electric or water. They did have flush toliets. We were allowed to use our generator from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the nights were cool enough that we were fine.
