The BFI To Release Paul Wright's Arcadia On DVD

After opening theatrically in June to 4-star reviews and a Film of the Week accolade in The Guardian, Arcadia, which premiered at the BFI London Film Festival last year, will be released by the BFI on DVD on 20 August 2018.

BAFTA Award-winning director Paul Wright (For Those in Peril) explores our complex connection to the land we live in with an archival remix drawn from more than 100 years of Britain on film, incorporating around 100 films/TV programmes, set to a new score by Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Will Gregory (Goldfrapp).

Special features include nine complementary short films from the BFI National Archive, a filmed Q&A with the director and musicians and more.

Arcadia embarks on a visceral sensory journey through the seasons, exploring the beauty, brutality, magic, and madness of our changing relationship with both the land and each other. This fresh new work crafted from the past is a folk horror wrapped in an archive film; get ready for a very strange trip indeed…

Using footage from the BFI National Archive (particularly BFI Player’s Britain on Film collection) and regional archives, Paul Wright creates a mosaic of contrasting images, sounds and moods, taking in folk carnivals and masked parades, hunting and harvesting, communes and raves, mechanisation, environmental issues, fires, floods, storms and much more. Arcadia reminds us what happens when our connection to nature, and indeed each other, frays and unravels.

Musicians Adrian Utley and Will Gregory, who collaborate outside of their respective bands, created the original score, influenced by a mixture of genres – electronic, classical, folk and punk. The score also features the voice of legendary folk singer Anne Briggs.

Chinese action fans will be used to seeing Martial Arts star Wu Jing (Wolf Warrior) kick ass, now they'll see their hero in space! As we wait patiently for Wolf Warrior 3 Wu Jing will be starring in The Wandering Earth (流浪地球) which is directed by Frant Gwo. It tells the story of a group of scientists who attempt to find a new Earth-like planet. With the Sun dying time is running out for the astronauts.

Based on a short story by Liu Cixin, the film takes place in the near future when “the sun is about to be destroyed and the solar system is no longer suitable for human survival. In the face of desperation, humanity started the “Wandering Earth” program and dumped resources to build a huge thruster on the surface of the Earth. He hoped that the Earth would be launched into the solar system to find new galaxy homes”.

The Wandering Earth will be released in China later in 2018. The film also stars Li Guangjie and Qu Jingjing.

Everyone loves a good old slumber party? Dustin Wayde Mills does and he's sent us the first Trailer for his upcoming Slaughterhouse Slumber Party. It's a passion project for Mills and his crew and he hopes to take the viewers back to the 1980's with a film with an homage to supernatural comedies and horrors such as Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice and Slumber Party Massacre.

This is indie horror on a zero budget, that doesn't mean to say you should ignore it. If anything especially those who call themselves horror fans should support it. They have started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to finish production and created this concept trailer to give you an idea what the film may look like. It's not a trailer you would play in front of your granny or at work, it's strictly NSFW!

It runs at 6 minutes long and does also have an intro from Mills himself and how you can support the film.

A group of gorgeous gal pals are horrified when one of their friends dies in a tragic naked pillow fight accident during their annual Slumber Party. Fearing legal repercussions, the ladies dump her body in a swamp and forge a runaway letter. Years later, the girls reunite to boob it up one more time with a saucy Slumber Party for the ages, only to have their party pooped by the vengeful spirit of their dear departed friend. Trapped by magic, surrounded by evil, and very underdressed, will they survive the night? Or will this Slumber Party become a Slaughterhouse?

Eureka Entertainment has announced the theatrical release of the charming and moving comedic drama Lucky, John Carroll Lynch’s directorial debut featuring Harry Dean Stanton (Cool Hand Luke; Alien; Paris, Texas; Repo Man) in one of his last starring roles.

Lucky follows the spiritual journey of Harry Dean Stanton’s character ‘Lucky’, a cantankerous, self-reliant 90 year old atheist, and the quirky characters that inhabit the Arizona town where he lives. Having out-lived and out-smoked all of his contemporaries, the fiercely independent Lucky finds himself at the precipice of life, thrust into a journey of self-exploration, leading towards that which is so often unattainable: enlightenment.

On the big screen, director John Carroll Lynch has worked with such legendary filmmakers as the Coen Brothers (Fargo), David Fincher (Zodiac), Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino) and Martin Scorsese (Shutter Island). Now, with Lucky, Lynch has moved behind the camera to make his directorial debut. Watch The Trailer For British Gangster indie Nightshooters Starring Jean-Paul Ly

MCM London Comic Con recently welcomed the stars of new British gangster action/comedy Nightshooters, executive produced and distributed by Ascendant Releasing. During the fan-packed weekend, they exclusively unveiled the trailer and hosted a panel discussing the film.

At the event, actor and rising action star Jean-Paul Ly teased his next project with Ascendant, titled 14 Fists. Reportedly a “full-blown” martial arts action film written and directed by Ascendant’s Bart Ruspoli, it is scheduled to begin filming in Winter 2018.

Jean-Paul Ly is best known for his leading role in Cambodian martial arts hit Jailbreak, which won the coveted GURU prize for Best Action Feature Film at the Fantasia Film Festival 2017 and was recently released by Netflix worldwide. He is also known for his stunt work in Doctor Strange, Lucy and Now You See Me 2.

As a filmmaker, Bart Ruspoli’s credits include Devil’s Playground, Cryptic and new sci-fi thriller Genesis, starring Olivia Grant, John Hannah and Warren Brown, which was also showcased at MCM London Comic Con and will be released by Lionsgate UK in July.

Ascendant, setup by producers Ruspoli and Freddie Hutton-Mills, have released a varied film slate theatrically and across home entertainment formats in the UK including award-winning Australian comedy Pawno, New Zealand western The Stolen and the upcoming Nightshooters.

Bart Ruspoli said: “We’re extremely excited to continue our collaboration with Jean-Paul Ly, whose star is on a meteoric rise. We are planning on creating some truly epic action sequences in 14 Fists and have the likes of the John Wick franchise squarely in our sights.”

But as things break down at home and Del announces Pete will be sold to an uncertain fate, the burden becomes too great for Charley to bear and he heads out into the vast American wilderness with Pete in tow.

We do love firsts and Steven Kastrissios' Bloodlands is a first, it's the first horror feature film from Albania! Yes, Albania!

Steven's name may sound familiar to some of you, as he was the director of the 2009 Australian revenge movie The Horseman. A movie that gained some impressive reviews, now he's stepped into the Balkans and Albania. A tale of 'blood feuds' amongst feuding families, played by Albanian actors delivering something truly unsettling.

February 2017, Steven brought his latest movie to the Glasgow Film Festival and to Horror Channel Frightfest Glasgow where it made it's World Premiere. One year on the film has just been released in the UK & Ireland and Steven has sent us the official Trailer.

Julius Ramsay’s Midnighters Trailer Makes 'Killing Easy'

The movie stars Alex Essoe (Starry Eyes), one half of a strained marriage (Dylan McTee the other half) on their way home from New Year celebrations. As they drive through the backwoods they accidentally run down a stranger. With things already at boiling point, the accident puts the pair to test when they learn the person they knocked down had ulterior motives against them.

The marks the cinematic feature debut for The Walking Dead director Julius Ramsay with his brother Alton writing the script.The movie really focuses on the fragility of marriage and when cracks seem to appear. Throw some scary elements from Thrillers and Horror genres we have a uniquely interesting movie on the cards and the early reviews back that up!

A New Years night becomes a long day’s journey into dread for one seriously unlucky couple in this wild ride nerve-twister. IMDB states Midnighters was released in the UK and Ireland September 2017, but there's no sign of the movie or on the usual Streaming channels. As for the USA, 2nd March there will be a limited cinema release with a VOD and Digital HD Download available same day.

The movie also stars Perla Haney-Jardine, Ward Horton, Andrew Rothenberg and Joseph Anderson.

Eureka Entertainment to release Kills On Wheels, an original and nuanced dark comedy, as part of its new Montage Pictures range in a Dual Format (Blu-ray & DVD) edition on 15 January 2018.

The second feature film from director Attila Till, Kills on Wheels is an inventive, action-packed coming-of-age story of friendship, loyalty and revenge.

Zoli and Barba are inseparable friends and outcasts. Both physically disabled, they live in a rehabilitation facility where life seems rather aimless. Zoli needs life-saving surgery but doesn’t want his absent father to pay out of guilt and pity. Enter Rupasov, a mysterious wheelchair-using man newly released from prison. He quickly adopts the two friends and offers them a chance to make some extra money by helping him in his work. That work, however, is murder. Rupasov is a hitman.

Inspired by his own experiences working as a volunteer for disabled people, director Attila Till skilfully blends reality with fantasy as he offers a gentle probe into the lives of those who live on the edge of society.

There's no word on when Tragedy Girls will receive the UK and Irish release date, which will more likely to be a home/digital download release.However, this one has a few well-known names compared to MacIntyre's previous movies including our leading actress Alexandra Shipp (X-men: Apocalypse), Brianna Hildebrand(Deadpool), next to Josh Hutcherson, Craig Robinson, Kevin Durand.

Tragedy Girls also stars Jack Quaid, Timothy V. Murphy, Nicky Whelan, Austin Abrams, Kerry Rhodes, and Mary Carmen Lopez. U.S horrorphiles can catch this movie on a limited cinematic release from 20th October.

2016 Turkish horror filmmaker Can Evrenol gave us a nightmarish arthouse fantasy horror Baskin at Horror Channel Frightfest Glasgow. The movie divided audiences many enjoying the Bava/Argento tone many wasn't sure what to say. With Toronto Film Festival only a few weeks away Everenol will be returning to the Canadian festival with his follow up movie Housewife.

If you enjoy David Cronenberg, Clive Barker, Dario Argento, you'll enjoy the movies of Evrenol. You'll also need a strong stomach as he's not scared to test you'll metal too or as Billy Conolly used to say 'Talking to Hughie and Ralph talking to God on the big white telephone'.Extreme is the word and if your watching this trailer, watch it in private as this is not suitable for work (NSFW).

Blood Disgusting brought the first trailer and here's their description of Housewife: “Holly’s childhood was a nightmare—at age 7, she watched her mother kill her sister and father. Those lovely folks at Screenanarchy have gotten their hands on the Danish movie trailer with English language subs. A movie that looks like will take a Looper style route as the world is in peril especially when there's no drinking water. It's time to time travel, watch the trailer...

In Qeda, 2095 the world is ravaged by ecological disasters.Fang Rung (Carsten Bjørnlund, ID: A) undergoes "molecular fission" process that will allow him to send his other half Gordon Thomas (Bjørnlund) back 2017. He must find scientist Mona Lindkvist (Sofia Helin, The Bridge and upcoming The Snowman) whose groundbreaking research was lost before the world could be saved. When Fang loses his contact with Gordon he is forced to travel back to 2017 and find his other half before the damage is irreversible.

This looks a bit of a mind bender that may puzzle a few but it has the old basic rules of time traveling, so meeting your younger self could damage not just you but the timeline you've just lived. As a sci-fi fan, those rules are created to be broken in the name of entertainment. You may have noticed part of the movie is in English and Set in London starring Game Of Thrones/The Hallow Star Joseph Mawle. Great chance this one will get some form of release (trailer is entitled 'UK Subs'), when and who we don't know at this stage. Cinematographer Rasmus Videbæk who worked on The Dark Tower worked on this one giving everything a dark, atmospheric feel.

Qeda will be released in Denmark 16th November.

Looking for something dark, twisted and melodramatic you can't go wrong with South Korean thrillers. Won Shin-yun's Memoir Of A Murderer (살인자의 기억법) turns the tables a little forcing a serial killer to protect his daughter, he must also fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

In his past, Byeong-Soo (Sol Kyung-Gu) was a serial killer. He now suffers from Alzheimer’s. Byeong-Soo has a daughter, Eun-Hee (Seol Hyun), but he actually took her from one of his victims. One day, he remembers Eun-hee's boyfriend (Kim Nam-Gil) approached Eun-Hee to kill her. To protect Eun-Hee, he fights to keep his memory and he plans to kill Tae-Joo.

Anyone knows Alzheimer's is a horrible disease to get at any age. Having our lead protagonist suffering from the disease gives the movie an uncertain unstable edge which could add twists due to what the disease does to its sufferer.

I do hope one of the UK distributors picks this one up if they do don't expect this one until 2018 at the earliest. Memoir Of A Murderer is expected to be released in South Korea cinematically September time.

We do love anime and Studio Ghibli but if the movie is not from the iconic Japanese studio, Disney-Pixar sadly sometimes has a hard time convincing those regular filmgoers to try something a little different like this one, The Breadwinner. Thankfully more filmgoers are opening themselves up to smaller more independent movies like Ireland's Cartoon Saloon latest movie, the studio that brought us Oscar-nominated The Secret Of Kellis and Song Of The Sea. Those movies picked up lots of nominations so could The Breadwinner follow suit? With Angelina Jolie producing and Secret Of Kellis co-director Nora Twomey making her directorial feature, I think we can say it's got a great chance to be in the running for next year's Oscars. Today we get a chance to check out the first trailer and it's gorgeous movie of a young girl who has to grow up ahead of her time in the Taliban-run Afghanistan...

The movie is adapted from Deborah Harris Young Adult novel by Anita Doron, The Breadwinner we meet Parvana is a 12-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is arrested, Parvana dresses as a boy in order to work and provide for her family. Together with her best friend Shauzia, she risks discovery to try to find out if her father is still alive.

Jolie herself made a statement about the movie and her involvement "I am proud to be a part of this beautiful film with this timely and very important subject matter.Millions of girls around the world have to grow up before their time, working to provide for their families at a very young age and in difficult circumstances. They have the strength to do what no one should ask little girls to do. I hope this film is able to bring this discussion to a broader audience. As much as it is an important and very meaningful film, it also stands on its own as a great piece of art. Director Nora Twomey and her team have done something very special. They have breathed life into the characters and paid respect to the subject matter and to a country where women often struggle."

We don't have an official UK release date just yet, but in the USA, The Breadwinner is been advertised for an Autumn release.
