Clay Aiken Wins Democratic Primary

According to the final count, reported by WRAL, Clay finished with 11,678 votes. Keith Crisco finished second with 11,288. Toni Morris finished third with 5,616.

North Carolina's State Board of Elections will certify results on May 22.

Due to the untimely death of Clay's opponent, Keith Crisco, Clay has suspended his campaign activities in observance. He will now face Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers in November.

Crisco died from a fall in his home Monday. His funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Asheboro.

Clay Aiken - Giving Back and Using His Voice

I have not been able to keep up with my blog during Clay Aiken's new direction. He told his fans that he was not going anywhere. BUT he did not tell us this detour was going to be a road map to Washington.

In the back of my mind when I first started following Clay, I saw that he cared about people and saw that he was dedicated to helping children with disabilities. Reading the book he wrote - Learning to Sing, Hearing the Music in Your Life - I could see that this could be his future. That he wanted to make a difference, he wanted to give back.

In February of 2003, he and Diane Bubel started a foundation for children with disabilities to be included with their non-disabled peers. The National Inclusion Project has programs in 35 states. Using his voice. Giving back.

He was able to give back when he was appointed an ambassador for Unicef in November of 2004. They sent him to Banda Aceh, Uganda, Kabul and Bamyan in Afghanistan, Mexico, Somalia and Kenya over the course of 4 years. Using his voice. Giving back.

I just touched on a couple of ways that Clay Aiken has been using his voice and giving back.
I didn't mention him speaking in Washington in 2010 with regards to bullying.

In one blog I did a couple of years back was entirely quotes that he has made. Many profound, many funny - but the one that he has repeated and is constant in his life has been - Use Your Voice. He is now on this journey using his voice. He wants to be a voice for District 2 of North Carolina. He does not care what political affiliation a person has, he wants to be a voice for all in his little corner of North Carolina. His home and his heart.

According to Playbill.com, chatter around the message boards and other Social Networks, Clay is going to be performing on American Idol Thursday night April 18th. Joining him on stage will be Fantasia, Season 3 winner and the final 5 ladies from this season.

National Inclusion Project 2012 Gala - Making a Difference

I have not had the honor of being able to attend a NIP Gala. I am adding this to my bucket list.

From all reports from last night, this was another very successful event.

The Gala was held at the National Theatre in Washington DC.

Arsenio Hall was MC and did a wonderful job. Arsenio said that he and Ruben knew that Clay let them win. :)

There were three wonderful Gala Award recipients.

Ruben Studdard sang Super Star, Flying Without Wings and a duet with Clay of More Than Words.

Debbie Gibson sang Maybe This Way, Proud Mary and a duet with Clay of Lost In Your Eyes.

Scattered throughout the night, Clay sang Because You Love Me, Everything I Don't Need, To Love Somebody, The Real Me and Invisible.

Dee Snider had a scheduling conflict and could not attend. He did make a video introducing the Live Auction. The auction included two dinners with Clay. Arsenio surprised Clay with an auction of two front row tickets to the first week of his new show. Clay is to sing and do anything else he wants on the show.

National Inclusion Project Champions Gala of 2012

If you watched this past season of Celebrity Apprentice; you would be aware of the charity that Clay Aiken was playing for, The National Inclusion Project. This is a charity that Clay Aiken and Diane Bubel started in 2003.

On October 20, 2012 they will be having the 9th Annual Champions Gala to benefit The National Inclusion Project. This year it will be held at the National Theater in Washington, DC. Special guests will be Debbie Gibson, Arsenio Hall and Ruben Studdard.

From The National Inclusion Project -

The Gala will honor Bridget and Nancy Brown, Loretta Claiborne and Steven Eidelman for their considerable efforts to ensure no child sits on the sidelines. The funds raised will be used to open doors for all kids to be included together and experience all that life has to offer. By conducting programs with community partners, the Project teaches others how to be inclusive so that kids with and without disabilities can experience lifelong benefits.

Along with performances by Clay and our special guests, the audience members will have the opportunity to participate in live and Send-a-Kid-to-Camp auctions to benefit the National Inclusion Project and hear remarks from the Honorees and Project Co-founders.
