North Korea opens fire on South Korea

North Korea fired two rounds towards a frontline unit and South Korean soldiers returned fire three times.
The shooting occurred in Hwacheon, some 90km (56 miles) north-east of the South's capital, Seoul, according to reports from South Korea's YTN TV.
Officials say it was not clear if North Korea's initial shots were a deliberate provocation.

The border between the two Koreas is one of the most heavily fortified in the world, with many thousands of troops stationed on either side of a demilitarised zone.

There have been frequent incidents at sea, but this is believed to be the first cross-border shooting on land since 2006.
South Korea's military is currently on its highest state of alert, as the capital prepares to host a meeting of world leaders from the G20 group of nations on 11 and 12 November.
Tensions high A spokesperson for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul said that no South Koreans were hurt in the exchange of fire, AFP reports.
"There were no more shots afterwards. We are now closely watching their movements," the unnamed spokesperson said.
The BBC's John Sudworth, in Seoul, says that the exchange appears to have been a small incident which did not cause any damage.
South Korean officials are not ruling out the possibility that the initial shot from the northern side of the border was accidental rather than deliberate, our correspondent adds.
Tensions between the two rivals have been high since the South accused the North of torpedoing one of its warships in March, with the loss of 46 lives. Pyongyang denies the charge.
Earlier on Friday the North warned that relations with its neighbour would face a "catastrophic impact" if South Korea continued to reject talks aimed at easing tension.
The first round of discussions in two years ended without progress in September after Seoul demanded an apology from Pyongyang for the warship sinking.

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Paul the Octopus, the tentacled tipster who fascinated football fans by correctly predicting results at this year's World Cup, died Tuesday.

Paul the Octopus, who went a perfect 8 for 8 in World Cup picks before retiring, died on Tuesday at the aquarium in Germany where he lived.

Paul had reached the octopus old age of 2½ years and died in his tank on Tuesday morning in an aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, spokeswoman Ariane Vieregge said.

Paul seemed to be in good shape when he was checked late Monday, but he did not make it through the night. He died of natural causes, Vieregge added.

Stefan Porwoll, manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Center in Germany that housed Paul, said: "We are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here and that the care provided him by our dedicated displays team could not have been bettered.

"His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself. We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine.

"While this may seem a curious thing to do for a sea creature, Paul achieved such popularity during his short life that it may be deemed the most appropriate course of action."

Is the office done for?

Steve Carell is leaving 'The Office' next May, E! confirms.
Carell told BBC in April that his contract expires at the end of this season and he did not plan to renew it. Now he has made it clear he wasn't just holding out for a better salary.
"I just think it's time," Carell told E! "I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go."

Somehow he sees the show going on without Michael Scott.
"The show is great, and the ensemble is so strong, and the writers are great, so it's just one part of that ensemble drifting off," he said. "They've incorporated so many new characters and so many new, great storylines that I have no doubt it'll continue as strong if not stronger than ever."

Personally I find Carell to be the lifeblood of the show and I'm not too sure how smooth things will sail without him there. On another note I am curious who they will choose to replace him, I know it won't be easy. Who do you think would make a good choice to fill the position of manager?

Mexican army burns cannabis haul

Authorities in the Mexican border city of Tijuana have seized 105 tons of marijuana, the largest bust in years, the state news agency reported Monday.

Security forces encountered several vehicles suspected of carrying the drug early Monday morning, A clash ensued, the news agency reported, injuring two people -- a government agent and a suspected drug runner. Eleven people were detained, suspects then told agents where they could find more pot, the news agency said.

I Also stumbled upon a video of them burning the marijuana in bulk.. Possibly the largest smoke sessions of all time?
