After the months of anxious waiting Microsoft has finally released the beta version of their latest internet browser. I personally never liked the browser but after reading few reviews of it and hearing from my friends I decided to have a look at it myself.
After using it for few days now I can say that they have actually made some significant improvements in the latest version. Being in the beta version its obvious that browser is not much stable as of now but it is faster as never before. Lots of improvements can be seen in the GUI. The look of IE 9 is more clean and clear and goes well with the Windows 7 look.

Microsoft on Thursday announced a Sept. 15 event in San Francisco to mark the launch of the beta of IE9.

Microsoft plans to launch the beta of the Internet Explorer browser on Sept. 15, according to a blog post on Thursday.

The software maker has scheduled an event in San Francisco to mark the arrival of the beta, billing the event (and the browser) as highlighting "the beauty of the Web." Microsoft also sent packages to reporters containing a variety of art supplies, such as crayons and fingerpaints, inside a box with an IE logo.
That Microsoft is holding a launch event reflects the resurgent importance of the browser and the degree to which Redmond is counting on IE9 to get it back in to serious technical competition with Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.

As noted in a story earlier Thursday, the beta needs either Windows Vista or Windows 7 (no XP) and will also require users to swap out their current installation of Internet Explorer. Among the key features of IE9 is its support for HTML5, an improved JavaScript engine, and the ability to tap a computer's graphics chip to accelerate text and image rendering.

Microsoft hasn't said much about the design of IE9, but the company's Ryan Gavin told CNET that the goal of the browser is not to block the view.

"The browser is the theater," Gavin said. "We're not the play."
Gavin said that Microsoft is hoping to see wide adoption of the beta. "The beta is not for everyone, clearly," he said, "but if you are comfortable downloading and installing software, I know I am going to want you to try IE9."

For those who don't want to, or can't, install the beta, Microsoft plans to continue to offer and update its technical preview of the browser engine, which runs side-by-side with earlier versions of IE. The fourth such preview was released last week.

Microsoft's chief operating officer, Kevin Turner, told financial analysts last month that the beta of IE 9 would come in September.

Finally, the Indian currency Rupee has got it's very own symbol, previously denoted as Rs. or INR (internationally) the currency now has it's own symbol like $ (US Dollar), £ (British Pound), ¥ (Japan Yen) or € (Euro). Since, the new symbol is not yet part of the UNICODE you will need to use special font to use it in your documents - the font can be downloaded from the link provided at the end of this blog post.

To start using the new Indian Rupee Symbol, follow the steps below :

Install the font, use instruction here - http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/fontinstall/instructions_english.html.
Launch Word or any other application and select 'Rupee Foradian' as the font, you can use the ~ character on your keyboard to insert the rupee symbol.

There click on the “Excel Options” .
Click on the Excel Add-Ins in the left sidebar.
In the manage list select COM Add-Ins and click on “Go”.

Read Deleted Messages(SMSs) in your Mobile

A SMS once deleted can’t be read again….but sometimes we accidentally delete some important messages. Here is the technique that must be followed to retrieve deleted SMS.

Required utility:

1) Any system explorer or file explorer program (eg. fileman or fexplorer.provided with the package)

Step 1) Open Fexplorer

Step 2) Select drive C: or D: depending on the memory in which the Sms messages have been saved.

Step 3) For example u selected c: , Then open “system” folder.

step 4) Then in “system” folder open “mail” folder.

step 5) Then in this folder u will see different folders (eg 0010001_s) and certain files (eg 00100000). These files are the actual messages. Browse through every folder and open all files till u get the sms u are looking for.

Step 6) For opening the files don’t choose options>file>open as it will show format not supported rather choose options>file>hex/text viewer. By selecting the “Hex/ text viewer” u ll be able to open and read the deleted SMS message

How to Change N70-72 fonts?

If you are one of those who do not like the plain default font or if you are a “dare to be different” kind of person then this one is for you! Change the fonts to what ever you have available or whatever suits your taste. Get ready for a little face lift for your phone.

Some background information: Nokia N70 doesnot use TTF font files, instead it uses GDR file which is acompilation of all the fonts that will be used by the phone. What we will do in the following steps is select the fonts that we want to use, use an application to compile the GDR file containing those fonts and finally uploading the font to the handset. Alright, time to begin.

1) Download and install GDR creator Download it here. Click Here to Download

2) Run the application. Dont worry about the funny language. I will explain how touse it to make working fonts.

3) You will see various tabs in the application. Each tab is there to set the font for a certain part of the phone. The phone preview on the left shows the part where the font belongs. Navigate till you get familiar with what is under each tab.

4) Under each tab, click browse to select the font, set the size (defaults should work fine unless your font is too small or too big) and select whether you want just the basic character set (ASCII/Unicode) or want all the characters + symbols from that font (Symbian/Unicode). From my experience Symbian/Unicode is only needed forText Messaging (2nd tab in theapplication).

5) After you’ve set the font,click the “Compile Font” button to add the font to the GDR and have a look at “Preview Font” window to get an idea of what the font will look like on the phone.

6) Finally, click the “Compile to GDR” button and save the file. Name it as you please.

7) Now transfer the GDR file to your N70. Create a folder named “Fonts” in C:\System and copy the file from inbox to the Fonts folder. In the end you should get this - C:\System\Fonts\.gdr

8) Delete the GDR file from Messaging -> Inbox and restart the phone.

9) Congratulations, you’ve just installed new fonts on your N70.

Ylmf OS – Ubuntu based XP look like OS

If you were avoiding Ubuntu just because you didn’t like its user interface then here is something for you. The Chinese pirates have found some new way to screw up the Redmond based company.

YLMF OS:- This is the operating system based on Ubuntu 9.10 and user interface almost identical to the one of Windows XP. The operating system comes preloaded with Wine, Compiz, SMplayer, Firefox and Pidgin.

You can see the original download site at ylmf.org. The site is in Chinese language but still you can translate it into English or any other language using Google translator.

To change the default language to English follow the steps given below.

Download and extract the iso file of ylmf OS and replace the isolinux file with the default isolinux file from Cosmic Koala(The OG Ubuntu 9.10).
Again make iso file out of it and install it on your computer. The installation process is same as you do for Ubuntu.After getting into the system run this command:
sudo locale-gen en_US
