A military coup is underway in Egypt, according to President Mohamed Morsi’s national security adviser. Security forces have placed a travel ban on President Morsi and a number of top Muslim Brotherhood officials, according to AFP sources.

The adviser stated that he expects army and police violence to remove pro-Mursi demonstrators from the streets of Cairo.
A Morsi presidential aide stated that “no military coup can succeed against popular resistance without considerable bloodshed.”
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has offered a consensus government as a way out of the country’s crisis, but offered no new compromises. The leader has refused to step down, and instructed the military not to “take sides.”
The proposed coalition government would include a Prime Minister elected by political powers, according to a presidential statement. The statement added that “the scenario that some parties are trying to impose is rejected by the people.”
The military ultimatum given to President Mohamed Morsi has come and gone, as hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets. Morsi previously rejected the deadline, which gave him 48 hours to meet the demands of the people before facing army intervention.
Just before the afternoon deadline imposed by the military expired, Morsi again rejected army intervention. The leader said that abiding by his electoral legitimacy was the only way to prevent violence. He criticized the military for “taking only one side.”
“One mistake that cannot be accepted, and I say this as president of all Egyptians, is to take sides,” Morsi said in a statement issued by his office. “Justice dictates that the voice of the masses from all squares should be heard.”
The meeting between Commander-In-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Abdul Fatah Khalil Al-Sisi, and political forces is still ongoing, Al Arabiya reports. The most important issue being discussed is reportedly that of sending reassuring messages to the Brotherhood’s leaders.
The two sides seem unwilling to budge, with protesters stating that Morsi and his Brotherhood party are pushing an Islamist agenda on Egypt.
The Tamarod movement has called on Egyptians to take to the streets and squares immediately, and to listen to the army’s speech.
The Brotherhood says the army’s actions amount to a coup and says that its members are ready to become martyrs to defend the president.
Morsi believes it would be better to die “standing like a tree,” defending the electoral legitimacy of his office, than to go down in history as having destroyed Egyptians’ hopes for democracy, presidential spokesperson Ayman Ali said, as quoted by Reuters.
Army sources had previously said the army would issue a statement after the deadline expires at about 5 p.m. (1500 GMT) but no time has yet been set for official statements, according to the Facebook page of Egyptian military spokesman Col. Ahmad Muhammad Ali.
Anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices (ICP) and other related offences Commission will all merge under one umbrella, the Federal Government has announced.

The new convergence is part of the government’s decision to implement the recommendations of the Steve Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.
Details of the merger were found in the report from the review committee on the White Paper chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to reports, the National Youth Service Corps is also to be “restructured with a view to developing a framework to cover critical areas of national socio-economic development to which corps members would be deployed for their primary assignments.”

The EFCC was established in 2003 to investigate financial crimes such as Advance Fee Fraud (419) and money laundering. Its establishment by the ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration was seen to be an urgent response to pressure from the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering, which had named Nigeria as one of the 23 countries non-cooperative in the international community’s efforts to fight money laundering.
The ICPC was also inaugurated by the Obasanjo administration to, among other functions, receive and investigate reports of corruption and prosecute the offender[s]; and to examine, review and enforce the correction of corruption-prone systems and procedures of public bodies with a view to eliminating corruption in public life.
Both agencies were set up by enabling laws.
Also the Federal Executive Council has ordered the scrapping of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, the National Poverty Eradication Programme and 218 other agencies established by it.
The names and number of federal agencies ordered to be scrapped or merged are included in a list already approved by the FEC, a copy of which was obtained by one of our correspondents on Monday.
Reuben Abati, spokesman for President Goodluck Jonathan, had disclosed on June 12, 2013 that the FEC was considering the scrapping of 220 out of 541 federal parastatals, commissions and agencies.
But the Presidency said on Monday that no final decision had been reached on the implementation of the Oronsaye committee report.
“The report is still at the FEC level and a committee was set up to review the White Paper. There is no final decision yet on the recommendations, anything outside this is mere speculation. Nigerians should wait until government releases the White Paper. They should not rely on speculation,” Abati told journalists in Abuja.
Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, had at the end of the FEC meeting last Wednesday told journalists that the council had concluded its three-week discussions on the draft White Paper on the report of the committee.
The FEC list also shows that the Fiscal Responsibility Commission has been abolished with its functions transferred to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Responsibility, while BPE has been ordered “to conclude its assignment” and be wound up.
The Revenue Mobilisation and Allocation Commission will also assume the responsibilities of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, which has also been abolished by the Federal Government.
Also abolished is the Public Complaints Council, whose responsibilities are to be taken up by the National Human Rights Commission.
The development followed months of speculations about government’s plan to cut down cost of running the government and to re-invigorate federal ministries, departments and agencies for greater efficiency.
Among the recommendations of the Oronsaye-committee rejected by the FEC was the scrapping of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
“The government rejects the recommendation of the Presidential Committee that the NCPC and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria be abolished and their functions be transferred to a department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” President Jonathan’s review committee stated.
Affected by the mild shake-up recommended by the Oronsaye committee are two professional organisations, the Council for Registered Engineers and Surveyors Registration Council which the Federal Government had ordered would no longer receive budgetary allocation from the 2015 Fiscal Year.
Shake-ups which the Federal Government had also carried out on some of the parastatals, commissions and agencies include a recommendation that “the law establishing Police Service Commission be amended to make Hon. Minister of Police Affairs to head the commission”.
The Federal Government has also directed that “the withdrawal of the Military from the Contributory Pension Scheme be reversed,” while the enabling law of the Nigeria Football Association “will be amended to reflect the directive of International Federation of Association Football (otherwise known as FIFA) that the organisation should be renamed Federation”.
Among the agencies to be retained by the government are the Nigeria Police Council, Bureau of Public Procurement, Infrastructural Concessionary and Regulatory Commission, National Sports Commission, National Institute of Sports and Citizen Leadership Training Centre.
Also to be retained are the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, which is to incorporate the Federal Highways Department of the Federal Ministry of Works and transformed into an “extra-ministerial department”, National Boundary Commission, Border Communities Development Agency and National Merit Award.
Othes are the Debt Management Office, Niger Delta Power Holding Company, National Bureau of Statistics, Centre for Management Development and New Partnership for Africa’s Development and the National Agency for Control of HIV/AIDS.
Abati on Monday described as speculative reports that the government had resolved to scrap some of its agencies and merge others.
Maku had said that the FEC secretariat had been directed to tidy up the draft White Paper with a view to producing a clean copy that will be presented to Nigerians.
But the minister had given an insight into one of the areas where the changes expected might be more pronounced as the research institutes and centres under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Maku had said while some of the research institutes would be scrapped, some others would be placed under existing universities for improved efficiency.
He added that a committee chaired by the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, was set up to take another look at a section of the Oronsaye report that has to do with research agencies spread across the country.
The idea, according to him, is to bring a report that will rationalise the agencies and ensure that they become more effective and result-driven.
Maku had said, “From what we have done, it is very clear that major decisions will be taken in many of the key sectors to reduce the number of agencies, particularly those that are performing duplicating duties and whose functions overlap.

“For example, there are so many research agencies under the Ministry of Science and Technology and when you look at some of the agencies, some of the functions they perform could indeed be coordinated by universities.”

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Rahamon A. Bello, FAEng on Monday, January 28, 2013 addressed newsmen ahead of the Golden Jubilee Convocation Ceremonies of the University.

The Press Conference was attended by Principal Officers, staff and
students of the University along with representatives of various media
organisations.

Below is the full text of the Vice-Chancellor’s address at the World Press Conference:

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the most preferred
University - the University of First Choice and the Nation’s Pride,
University of Lagos.

This is my first official interaction with you gentlemen of the fourth
estate of the realm since my appointment as the 11th Vice-Chancellor of
the University on the 12th November, 2012.
I will, therefore, seize this opportunity to thank you immensely for
assisting to project the image of the University of Lagos to the outside
world. I look forward to a stronger partnership between the media and
the University of Lagos in the days ahead.

Gentlemen of the Press, today’s
media briefing is principally designed to kick- start our Golden
Jubilee Convocation, which is the crescendo of our 50th Anniversary
Celebrations, that started earlier in 2012. The occasion of this Press
Conference will afford us the opportunity of a face- to- face
interaction, which we expect should assist in better understanding and
more objective reporting by the media on issues concerning the
University.
As you all know that the University of Lagos was established by the 1962 Act of Parliament with the mandate to:
• encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without
distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction.
• provide courses of instruction and other facilities for the
pursuit of learning in all its branches, and to make those facilities
available on proper terms to such persons as are equipped to benefit
from them.
• encourage, promote and conduct research in all fields of learning and human endeavour; and
• undertake any other activities appropriate for a University of the highest standard.

I am happy to inform you today
that by our reckoning the University of Lagos has lived up to the
aspiration of the founding fathers to a large extent. The University
began with a medical school and two other schools: Business & Social
Studies, and Law. The Faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering and
Science were added in 1964.

From this humble beginning and in spite of all challenges, the
University of Lagos has metamorphosed into a “Centre of Excellence”
having three campuses at Akoka, Idi-Araba and Yaba, with a College of
Medicine, a Distance Learning Institute, a School of Postgraduate
Studies and twelve (12) Faculties, namely: Arts, Business
Administration, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental
Sciences, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Law,
Pharmacy, Social Sciences and Science. Today, the University of Lagos has been ranked as the first and best University in Nigeria and the 16th best in Africa.

As at the last Convocation, the University has produced one hundred and
forty- seven thousand, eight hundred and thirty five (147, 835)
graduates, many of whom are captains of industry and a large compliment
of who can be found at the helm of affairs in both the public and
private sectors, locally and internationally. I want to assure you that
our University will continue to march along the path of excellence and
with the help of the Almighty; we are already on course to become the
number one and best University in Africa.

Golden Jubilee Convocation
Gentlemen of the fourth estate of the realm, I am happy to announce
Honorary Degree Award
Ladies and gentlemen, the University of Lagos Act 1962 permits the
University to identify and honour eminent Nigerians who have
contributed to the upliftment of humanity.
1. Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, KBE
Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, KBE, was the only Prime Minister of
an Independent Nigeria and he was one of the founding fathers of the

former Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure; and

Appointment of Distinguished Professor
The University will appoint Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, former
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (2000-2007) and current
Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Ndufe-Alike Igwo, Ebonyi
State, as Distinguished Professor of this University.

Commissioning of Projects
Gentlemen of the press, we will seize the opportunity of our 2012
Golden Jubilee Convocation to commission important projects crucial to
effective teaching and conduct of research in this University. The
projects include the Laboratory Centre and Maternity donated by Chief
Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, Human Resources Development Centre
(HRDC), Simulation Laboratory for the Faculty of Business
Administration, Unilag 50th Anniversary Park and Distance Learning
Institute (DLI) e-Resource Facilities.
As the concluding part of the 50th year anniversary celebrations, a
book on the 50- year history of the University of Lagos will be
presented to the public at a date to be announced later.

New Developments
Permit me to unveil some of the new developments in the pipeline.
Necessary machinery has been put in place to ensure that this
University becomes an e-University in terms of both teaching and
administration in the next few months.

As part of the upgrading of teaching and infrastructure, each classroom
will have an interactive ICT board and internet connectivity.

Also, the Nigerian Maritime Administrative and Safety Agency (NIMASA)
is building a Maritime Institute worth one billion naira in our Faculty
of Science. The University of Lagos was chosen for this project due to
its pool of intellectuals, its contributions to national development,
topography and location near the Lagoon.

Following on the heels of NIMASA is the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
It has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern “Centre of
Excellence” project in the University. When completed, the project will
have an academic facility and a five-star hostel.
Based on the foregoing, I want to assure you that in the next five
years, the University of Lagos will be the best and number one in
Africa.

As a policy, the University has adopted to change the skyline of the
University to make it the urban University that it is. Henceforth, all
new key buildings will have to be designed for minimally 12 floors,
even if we are commencing with just 4 or 5 floors. This will ease
expansion in the future.
A 25-year strategic plan had been approved for the University of Lagos.
This will soon be published. It is the document that is being worked
and will be worked to take the  University of Lagos to the global arena;
in line with the vision.

Gentlemen of the Press, let me thank you once again for being here today. On behalf of staff and students of this University, I wish you all a happy and blissful new year.

God bless the University of Lagos. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

One major factor that causes fights between couples, and which is hardly voiced out but often drives either of them away from home into the waiting hands of extra marital affairs, is sex. A lot of beautiful marriages have been ruined just because partners were not sexually satisfied and they found it difficult or unholy to speak out. Most of those who do not have extra marital affairs suffer in silence and die slowly of emotional trauma.

This is one reason that has driven me to go the extra mile to discover how such people can be helped. The most guilty are the religious ones who are highly inexperienced and ignorant of what sex is and does in marriage. This group of people are the most at risk when confronted with sexual harassment. Have you wondered why many religious leaders are involved in sexual scandals today? Don’t go too far seeking for an answer; I can bet it’s due to lack of sexual satisfaction.

Please read this piece I stumbled on as I searched for the way forward vis-a-vis sexual satisfaction:

“I’ve been married for 12 years, but my husband behaves like he’s 90 years old and we haven’t had sex in a long time. Now, I’ve found someone better than him in bed and I want more. Am I to blame?”

Now the question is not who to blame or who not to blame, but what went wrong. And the answer is sexual dissatisfaction.

This is why today, I am giving a piece on how to give your spouse sexual satisfaction through stimulating multiple pleasure points on his or her body, but especially her, because she is the one who needs that extra touch for sexual pleasure (this is not debatable; it’s a fact of life). What you are about to read was received from Jack Grave, a female pleasure guru. But, I have tried to edit it in order to make it acceptable as much as possible, to the conservative or the religious ones who may find the unedited version offensive. I hope it will be worth the effort and produce the desired result- sexual satisfaction per excellence.

Men and women have multiple pleasure points that produce great sexual pleasure in them. For men, it pretty much begins and ends with the penis. Sure, you could argue that there’s a male G-spot, buttocks, and other stimulating points in a man. But even so, these pale in significance to the many ways a woman can be pleasured.

One of the things that make women especially unique is that they have many different ways in which they can be sexually pleasured. Such pleasure points on a woman include the vagina, clitoris, G-spot, nipples and anus. Stimulating one or more of these points gives your spouse great pleasure in bed. But what makes you a god in the bedroom is when you learn to master stimulating more than one of these pleasure points at the same time.

Stimulating certain combinations can be more complex than others, but let me give you a few easy ones to try out:

Reverse cow-girl with manual clitoris stimulation
Cowgirl is a sex position where the man lies on his back and the woman straddles him. Reverse cowgirl is very similar except that the woman faces away from the man. Once in this position, the man can then sit up and with his hands can reach around the front of her and stimulate her clitoris manually, therefore stimulating both her vagina and clitoris at the same time.

Doggy style while she arches her back
Doggy style, as you probably know, is a sex position where the man enters the woman from behind, while she positions herself on her hands and the knees. Once in this position, you get your partner to arch her back. This forces her G-spot onto your penis, and therefore in this position, you are stimulating both her vagina and the G-spot. Extra tip: as the man, try leaning back while in this position for extra G-spot stimulation.

Missionary while orally stimulating her nipples
Some women love to have their nipples pleasured. If your partner is one of these women, this simple approach alone can give her intense orgasm. The missionary position is when the woman lies on her back with the man on top. Once in this position, lick her nipples while having sex and she will be in for a world of pleasure.

Stated above are just three ways in which you can use the technique of multiple stimulations to achieve a great effect. As you can imagine, there are a lot more, but giving just the three above will take you a long way.

On a final note, the key is to try out different approaches because every woman is different. As you go on, observe how she reacts carefully. If she starts to wriggle, squirm and moan (in a positive way), it probably means she’s liking what you’re doing to her, so keep doing it. Keep doing what is working until you bring her to orgasm.

American rapper Rick Ross smashed his Rolls-Royce into an apartment building in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida early this morning while attempting to flee from a drive-by shooting. TMZ is reporting he was the intended target.

According to reports, around 5am Rick Ross and a female companion were leaving a party on Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale when a car pulled up along side Rick's dark colored Rolls and opened fire.

Rick swerved to avoid being hit and crashed into an apartment building at SE 15 Avenue.

Neither Rick nor his passenger were hit. Security cameras at a building across the street from the crash were rolling during the incident and cops are hoping the footage will either reveal the identity of the shooter or at least show the vehicle.

From a AAB reader:

My marriage ended in 2008 after 9 years and four kids because my ex and I just couldn't make it work. The best part of it all was that we managed to remain friends after we parted ways. We see each other often because of our kids and over the years we've become quite close. If you see us together you would never guess we were divorced. I never thought exes could be friends but my relationship with mine has proven me wrong. But there's a problem now. My ex husband met a lady 8 months ago and his attitude totally changed after then. He doesn't come to the house as often as he used to, doesn't see his kids as often as he used to, doesn't call me anymore..and when he eventually shows up at my house all he talks about is her. He's moved her into his home, bought her a Mercedes and taken her on two romantic trips abroad, all in 8 months.

What am I complaining about, you may wonder? Well I was with him for 13 years and gave him four children and he never ever for once took me on a romantic trip abroad. Not once in 13 years.

Just two nights ago, he told me that he's never loved anyone as much as he loves this woman and is planning to pop the question this valentine.

I was with him for 13 years, 4 years dating and 9 years married and he's never loved anyone as much as he loves this woman he met 8 months ago? I know you read this blog occasionally J, thank you!

Oh dear!

An Abuja High Court today sentenced a former head of the Police Pension Board, Mr Yakubu Yusuf, to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to embezzling N2billion of police pension fund.

But guess what? Mr Yusuf was given an option of N250 thousand to avoid the jail sentence. He was also asked to forfeit property valued at N325 million.

The former assistant director in the federal civil service was one of the six people tried for stealing N32.8 billion of police pension fund. Naija, we hail thee!!!

The Federal Government, yesterday, reacted to comments by the former Minister of Education, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, alleging that the governments of presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, squandered $67 billion in foreign reserve, describing the allegation as “outlandish and clearly fictitious”.

Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku who addressed a press conference in response to some of the allegations raised by the former Vice President (African Region) of the World Bank said the damning verdict passed on the education sector by Mrs Ezekwesili was a self-indictment as she presided over the sector without making any positive impact on it.

I’ve been married 10 years but my husband behaves like he’s 90 years old and we haven’t had sex in a long time. Now I’ve found someone better than him and want more. Am I to be blame?

I’m 36 and a primary school teacher. My husband is 38 and works in IT. We’ve got two girls aged 11 and nine and have been married for nearly 12 years.

For the last year or two it’s been grim. My husband bores and irritates me half to death. I’m sick of the tedious grind of the classroom and the even worse grind back at home.

I was so uptight I almost exploded with rage when the head teacher said we had an extra staff meeting after school to talk about our OFSTED inspection. I moaned to a colleague at break time. He’s the only man on the staff and he teaches the children PE.

He’s gorgeous and sexy and we always got on well, but I thought out of bounds to a mother like me.

I phoned my husband to say I’d be late, he said ok. In the end the head teacher had to deal with an emergency with a student with family problems so the meeting was off after all. I looked at my colleague and to my surprise he just smiled and said, “Fancy a drink?”

I didn’t think twice. We went to a pub down the road and I felt almost sick with excitement. I think we both knew that we both wanted more than a drink.

We chatted over a glass of wine and he told me his marriage was pretty much dead. He’s got two little boys and he loves them to bits, but he’s bored with his wife and is desperate for change.

We finished our drinks and had sex in his car before heading for home. No one suspected a thing. We’re in the same boat but we’ve found a way out of the boring routine.

We meet up for sex once a week but the problem now is I’ve fallen in love.

Please what do I do? Should I just call it quits with my husband and move in with my teacher boyfriend?

I CAUGHT my husband and his niece with their hands all over one another on the settee and it turned out they’d had sex. I can’t get over the sight of them together.

We’re both 55 and our two children are grown up. We worked hard at our own business and our life was very comfortable. We were very close and in love.

Then my husband’s niece suddenly became homeless with two children when her partner left. We invited her to stay with us while she sorted her life out.

It was a grim time but then she started to turn a corner. Around the time of her birthday I decided to cook a celebration dinner for us.

Read more immediately after the hack...

I was dog-tired afterwards and said I was going to bed. I could hear them chatting then suddenly it went very quiet. I thought they had fallen asleep and went to see.

I can’t tell you my utter shock and disgust when I saw them half undressed and all over each other. I screamed and they jumped apart. We all went to bed after a lot of tears and shouting.

I quizzed them next day and it turned out that they’d had sex the day before. She came to apologise the next day but finally admitted her real issue was she was terrified what would happen if I told anyone.

I kept quiet, she moved out and now has a new partner. We have a large, close family and she now floats around like a saint at family gatherings showing him off. Sometimes I feel like throwing a bombshell into her smugness and telling everyone, but that won’t change what happened.

My husband is sorry and ashamed but he won’t talk about it, which is difficult because we work together. We’re like robots. It’s six months on and I still can’t get over it.

It’s a problem that leaves many women, especially house wives, frustrated most nights. But scientists have given men an excuse for sleeping immediately after sex.

Men cannot help but fall asleep straight after indulging in sexual activity because their brains are ordering them to do so, a new study has revealed.

In the research, scientists have claimed the male brain is programmed to switch off after Orgasm. In contrast, women stay alert so are more likely to be left staring at the ceiling in frustration.

Men were scanned during and after climax and it was found that the entire cerebral cortex, the brain’s “thinking” part, shut down during orgasm.

Then two other areas, the cingulate cortex and amygdala, triggered the deactivation of all sexual desire.

“These experiments give us the first hints as to what happens in the brain during orgasm,” the Mirror quoted Serge Stoleru, a French government -scientist, as saying.

“For women it seems to be different,” he said. Stoleru said that women do not have such a strong refractory period – which is a recovery phase when the body calms down.

That leaves them wondering why their partners have lost all interest when they want more of it.

I have no words to describe this, but thankfully they say pictures tell a thousand words. This is the deplorable state of the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja, Lagos...the first police college in the country, built in 1940.

Channels TV exposed the deplorable conditions of the dormitories at the training college where recruits spend months to get training to become police officers. The condition of the hostels, the bathrooms, and even the way they feed is so shameful. N150 daily meal allowance. There has been no major development at the college since it was built in the 40's except for a few renovations. They even still use type-writer. The College was built for 700 students, but now has 2,554 trainees. See for yourself after the cut...

For her 28th birthday on Saturday January 12th, ex-miss Nigeria, Ene Lawani, got a brand new BMW 5 Series saloon car, 2013 model, from her boyfriend of over six years, Polo Boss, John Obayuwana. A close source to the couple told me that Mr Obayuwana called Ene at 12.03 early Saturday morning and told her to go outside her home to see her surprise birthday present. A driver was waiting outside Ene's home holding the key to a brand new BMW car.

Ene also drives a G-Wagon Benz 550, also a gift from her man.

She is scheduled to check into a hospital in Spain in a few days.

It was revealed that the First Lady has been struggling with a variety of ailments that have refused to go away, some of them being complications relating to the "treatment" she embarked upon during her medical trip abroad.

Since her tumultuous return from her extended trip abroad in 2012, Mrs. Jonathan has remained largely marooned inside the Presidential villa only attending few public events and church services in Abuja.

Concerning Mrs. Jonathan’s trip to Spain, OMG reports that it is known she had previously attended “health farms” in the Malaga area of the European country.

Mrs. Jonathan, who returned to Nigeria last year after a prolonged stay at a German hospital, is officially headed for Spain but our source said she is scheduled for medical treatment in Germany in order to certify her fit so she could attend an African First ladies event scheduled for Addis Ababa later in the month.

Governor Sullivan Chime, who has been missing from Enugu State since September 2012 when he applied accumulated leave that ought to have lasted only one and a half months, is battling heart disease in London’s Cromwell Hospital, sources have told SaharaReporters.

Despite efforts to ferry him home to quell public restlessness in the State, the condition of the governor, whose medical sojourn started in India, has remained dire.

The prolonged absence of the Governor has left the state under the complete control of his Chief of Staff, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo. Deputy Governor Sunday Onyebuchi, who is a neophyte, is limited to monetary spending limit of not more than N500,000k at a time.

Before becoming governor, Mr. Chime was Enugu state's Attorney General in the government of now-indicted former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani. During Chimaroke's reign in the state and for eight years, several assassinations, including that of Victor Nwankwo, the business manager of the vocal activist Arthur Nwankwo, helped to chill public dissent.

Following the disappearance from public view of Governor Chime in 2012, several assassinations have also been experienced in the state. Emeka Agwu, a man described as vocal and fearless, was assassinated in December 2012. He hailed from Udi, the same local government area as the governor.

Other assassinations, including those of Ogbo Edoda and Ikeckucku Alagwu, a coordinator of MDG projects in two LGAs, have sent fear throughout the state and chilled notable voices. So far, there are no investigations into those murders.

Enugu indigenes are fearful about what lies ahead for the State, and many prominent church leaders who hail from the same area as the governor have gone silent. The state assembly is also in the pockets of the governor.

A few days ago, a pro-democracy association of Enugu State citizens which calls itself the Save Enugu Group, called on Acting Governor Onyebuchi to make a “categorical explanation” on the condition and whereabouts of Governor Chime.

The Acting Governor has yet to respond.

Convener, Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has accused some church leaders in the country of aiding and abetting corruption.

“The church has failed the nation. Worst oppression is going on in the churches today. Most churches encourage corrupt leaders by failing to tell them the truth and collecting their money.”

The Serving Overseer of The Latter Rain Assembly also said some churches not only encourage and harbour corrupt individuals, but also receive ill-gotten money from them.

Pastor Bakare said this while delivering a speech in preparation for the first anniversary of the Occupy Nigeria Protest in Lagos on Sunday.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Corruption and the Soul of the Nation’, the lawyer turned Pastor regretted that corruption had robbed the country of the chance to realise its potential.

He said, “It cripples a nation’s character and drains her of substance. We are confronted daily with news and reports of executive corruption in high places, assaulted with a legal system that has long lost respect for the sacredness of justice.

“We have resorted to worshipping and preserving certain sacred cows and even their sires. We have a social system that makes a mockery of a country and her feeble efforts at self-reclamation to the end that even her entire existence becomes a running joke.

“This is not mere alarmism. Our country has long been distorted by corruption and it has progressively eroded her strength and undermined her potential.”

Recalling the protest against the fuel subsidy removal in January last year, Pastor Bakare said it was a collective resolve by Nigerians to fight against injustice and oppression.

“The protest was unprecedented that Nigerians across the country, irrespective of religion and ethnic identification, resisted the subsidy removal on such a scale.

“From a little band of people who began to protest and clamour that Nigeria must be occupied, it steadily grew into a mammoth movement as each one told his neighbour that this was a chance to snatch our country back. While it lasted, people were energised. They wanted to question the answers they already had on the state of affairs in the country,” he said.
