In the first case, consult a veterinarian immediately. In the second alternative, hopefully will recover with a proper diet. Close doors and windows where the bird is. Put it in a box without cover no more than four times its size, the floor covered with newspaper for easy cleaning. Place it in a quiet and warm, without direct sun. Cover the box with a cloth so as not to stress occur. Touching as little as possible, so avoid making unintentional fractures.

Data to Monitor
Look closely if you are missing feathers on the wings or tail, or are cut off, if you have cuts or bruises, see if you swallow liquids (not to put his head back, you can choke. To know the nutritional status of the animal, palpate the chest (breastbone) and whether the bones are easily detected could indicate malnutrition. If you can drink, give him water with small amounts of glucose (glucolín water or honey.

Identify which species belongs to is very important. If it originates in the region and has no signs of having been in captivity, we assume that their release would cause no problems. However, if a species native to another region or another country, you should not leave it free. Incorporate non-native species or individuals can often cause severe disruption to the regional nature. For more details, we recommend consulting the bird guides or local members of Aves Argentinas / Plate Ornithological Association (AOP)

Quarantine
It is the period during which aims to restore the health of the bird and see if other pathologies. Their duration varies with the species and its origin. During quarantine avoid excessive contact with the bird, because it creates dependency and alter the rehabilitation process. At the end of this period the animal will be able to take their natural food and to fly in a coordinated way.

Review
A veterinary examination of the parasites detected in feces indicate whether the bird can be released (is healthy) or not (there are signs of disease. We must prevent the spread of parasitic diseases to other birds in the area. You should also consider the presence of any other infectious disease.

Additional Information:
Care of the Beak and Nails If a bird fails in a manner acceptable to wear your nails with daily exercise will have to cut them so that the animal is constantly hooking legs with any object you come across in the cage. The overgrowth of the claws occurs mainly in smaller birds, which must be paid special attention to no harm.

As in the case of nails, the peak undergoes a progressive growth slows down wear and tear during normal activity of the bird. If the activity is not sufficient peak size increased disproportionately to the point that the animal may be disqualified for food. This problem occurs mainly in psittacine, using its beak as a tool. As precautionary measures and extra wear to the peak must be placed in accommodation or cuttlefish bone mineral block, and branches are not poisonous and the animal can gnaw and wear down the beak naturally.

There are certain types of birds, which often are found in the homes and because of their sociability and intelligence need to be entertained and feel in the company. The failure, by these animals, distraction, and forgetfulness and neglect, by the owner, may cause natural or stereotypic behaviors that are associated with severe damage. That is why toys are so important for these birds, especially parrots and they have to spend lots of time alone.

The toys have to meet very specific characteristics that do not become a hazard. They will be non-toxic, non-nasty, resistant to the action of a non-shedding peak and the animal pieces to swallow causing intestinal obstruction
The parakeets are birds from Australia. Although it depends on many factors, the average age of life is ten or twelve years. They adapt quickly to life in a cage, and although birds are often robust to enjoy living in community, their immune system is often quite fragile. They suffer from various diseases, many of which are preventable if we watch closely their food and hygiene.

Crucially time determine any condition, because they instinctively tend to hide the symptoms to avoid being marginalized by their peers. It is best if you notice your budgie have any abnormal behavior, promptly consult with a professional as quickly progressing disease in these birds.

Here are some of the most common signs you should look, which could alert you to any condition: the parakeet eat or drink less or more than usual, showing weight loss or swell, their plumage becomes opaque, its waxy changes color; manifested little activity, not fly or pant after it, breathing with difficulty, your eyes are long time or keeps closed, avoid contact with peers or are they who reject, their droppings change color.

Some conditions of the birds are: abnormal molt feathers, mites, internal or external parasites, diarrhea, colds, thrush, irritation of the crop, lack or overdose of vitamins, among others.

If you notice one or more signs of our list above, please immediately consult a specialist in birds. Remember that appropriate treatment depends on the recovery of your parakeet. Construction of an aviary Most of exotic birds and require large open spaces to live. Therefore they need a special habitat, it can do to build an aviary. If you want to raise animals of a certain size need greater accommodation, even for relatively small species may be that the cage space is insufficient. Or you might want to have several species housed on premises and even raising opportunities. In all these cases we must resort to the aviaries. The functions of the virus may be: Host bird-cage whose maintenance is inadequate. -Provide an accommodation with the right conditions. -Provides a means of keeping several species together with purely aesthetic purposes.

The aviaries can be located indoors or outdoors. The external aviaries are outdoor facilities. Must be located in a place where they are under more or less constant vigilance. These facilities need cleaning, changing water and food, at least every two days. Counseling is another important factor. The best thing is that the aviaries are facing south. If not possible, should be oriented to the southeast, if not to the southwest. These guidelines make the sun's rays affect longer in the aviaries, and also the facilities will be less subject to inclement weather, cold and frost. It is important to know also, if possible, the prevailing winds in the area. No we never target an aviary facing the prevailing winds in the region. The land on which we place our aviary should be as smooth as possible. In general you should always avoid putting aviaries in shady areas, high risk or low trees. In the shade or in areas exposed during the winter the temperature can be appreciably lower than in a sheltered location and the sun.

You must design the aviary with easy access, height must be greater than 2 or 2.5 m. lower installation height to the building will look bad, plus any bird should always be high enough so that we can enter and move through it without having to stay crouched. Inside you can place a trunk tilted so that the birds rest on, and you must also add the containers in which you will be food and water.

People have to take them home because of its beautiful plumage and exotic rarity. Birds are especially high demand for single people or does not have a large space at home to get a dog or cat.

These are very fragile and require constant care, but not as deep as a large pet. Because it is so sensitive is that they need to know that diseases can suffer in a given time and which can be prevented by the rules of cleanliness and hygiene.

The most important thing in breeding parakeets , if you see something unusual in the parakeet not to wait long to take him to the veterinarian.

Some of the diseases that can give the parakeets:

Asthma It is a condition characterized by difficulty breathing moment. It's usually a bit tricky to heal, but it leads to death.

Bronchitis It is produced lime dust, toxic gas and germs. The birds remain motionless with eyes closed, and have difficulty breathing. They also lose your appetite.

Catarrh of Chest It manifests itself in the bird, when it has a purple color, loss of appetite and ruffled feathers keep them. The illness lasts 3 to 5 days and unfortunately it is incurable and the bird dies.

Gastro-intestinal Catarrh The main cause of this evil is the poor quality of the grain consumed by parakeets. Completely loses the desire to eat, the stool is soft and her face looks sad.

Cholera Are rolled and shrink without moving, have diarrhea and do not eat.

Sleeping Sickness The eyes are watery and stay with her eyes closed, very sleepy. Unfortunately no cure.

Epilepsy It is restless and fluttering in the cage in the form of an attack. It is incurable.

Constipation The parakeets suffer from not being able to defecate properly and make efforts to do so. The lettuce helps the problems of constipation.

Fractures Bones are broken. They are usually in the legs or wings, it is necessary that you see a veterinarian.
Piojillo The diseases are tiny parasites that land from under the feathers of birds. Is given because of poor hygiene.

These small animals can also suffer from melancholy. Is because they feel lonely. If you put a male and companion, the blues away. If a female should be exclusively a male or female can attack and cause death.
To not have one of these diseases and take care of your parakeet must constantly observe any changes.
If no necessary precautions could have problems.

While parakeets tend to be gregarious and sociable birds, never put the new parakeets in the flock of old parakeets. What happens if the new one joins the old one, may be they attack the new one. So do not expect a friendship set overnight, need time to adjust to the new situation, especially if you have long solos.

If you want to give your parakeet a couple or integrate a new group, follow these tips:
* Purchase or provides a second cage for the bird again. A small and economical is the best, and then you can use as a transport cage or quarantine.
* It is advisable to have the parakeet again for at least a week in isolation from others, so you'll never have any contagious disease and have time to familiarize yourself and your hand.
* The next step is to put both cages in the same room. This may provide visual and acoustic contact, but none considered the other as an intruder in their territory.
* If you usually drop your parakeet to fly across the room, still not open the cage of the "new". More likely is that the approaching old parakeet's cage again, and so may provide a first physical contact through the bars.
* After several days, open both cages. This will allow day release known in the room and none will see the other as an intruder in his cage, which is its more intimate territory. In addition there will be enough space for both parakeets can get away from the other in case of trouble

What reactions can you expect?

Have been observed three possible reactions to a new parakeet, by others:
1. The old parakeets accept at once, make contact with him and joined the band. 2. Old ignore it, do not approach him or attack him. After a few days or weeks, they accept and establish contact with him. 3. The old parakeets attack or frighten the new, to being afraid.

Depending on the reaction you need more or less time until the new parakeet to be accepted by others. However, there is a way to facilitate this process.

If you change the arrangement of the hangers, you put new parakeet toys , etc.., Will realize that for both parakeets cage is unknown territory and in principle will avoid fights over territory.

Remember the golden rule, "Do not introduce a new parakeet parakeet in the cage of old," no matter if you have only one or two old parakeets, we recommend you follow these tips.
It is not necessarily any harder but it is different indeed. Because it is different owners tend to make some oversights and blunders which could be avoided easily if a potential ferret owner were to just read up a little bit on ferrets and maybe talk to a few other ferret owners about new ferret ownership.

Ferrets are very excitable animals to the point of being almost hyper. Once you get used to them you will likely find great joy in the way that they present themselves when you get home from work and allow them time to come out of their cage and play. At first their behavior might appear to be a bit extreme but it is only excitement and love for you that they act this way. Don't be alarmed if your ferret jumps wildly into the air and scurries about recklessly...this is normal behavior for an excited ferret. In addition to being extremely excited consider that the ferrets do not have very good eyesight and this can contribute to what many may mistake for clumsiness.

Ferrets are funny animals and there are a few instances when humor is needed because a new ferret owner did not research the behaviors of ferrets before buying one. The result can be that owners freak out when the ferret does something that is actually quite natural to them. For example, if a ferret starts to drag his behind around on the floor, many owners may rush him to the vet convinced that he is ill. Had they did their homework they would know that the ferret is merely washing his butt on your carpet. Not much can stop this from happening because ferrets like to be hygienic but what you can do is place their litter in an area that is easily washable.

Ferrets love to sleep and they do it very well. Again, a little research would inform a person that ferrets sleep so deeply that nothing can wake them. Many ferret owners have experienced a racing heart by watching their sleeping ferret and taking him for dead! Even when they are picked up, most of the time they will sleep right on through.

Another avoidable blunder is being convinced that your ferret is cold because he trembles a bit. Trembling is something common that all ferrets do and not because they are cold. They are either excited or looking forward to something and this is why they shake. Don't think that your ferret is cold or afraid. Once you pick him up and offer him a little love you will see the shaking cease and your ferret will return to normal.

Ferrets are great and they are especially great when you can understand them. Knowing what to expect from them and what normal behavior is and what is not is something that every ferret owner should know. It might end up saving you quite a bit of money in the long run.
The world has more than 350 of known parrot species. Here is a brief introduction to the 8 parrot species most suitable to be kept as pets:

The African Grey Parrot
It is one of the best choices of people to keep as pets, because of their ability of mimic speech. This gives a chance to the people to show off unique characteristics of their parrot. But, it has always seen as a risk too because it is not sure that all of African grey Parrots keep the ability of the mimic speech.

Budgies
Budgies are other species which are very beautiful and lovely birds and pet lovers love to keep them as pets. The unique feature of this species is that they can be taught to speak and they can play with people because of their social nature and intelligence. Even though, their life span is of five to eight years but if people take very good care of them, they can live the life up to fifteen years.

Cockatiels
They are very small parrot breed which are very cheap and maintained with requiring very less care because of their size and nature. They are less aggressive with the life span of fifteen to twenty years.

Conures Conure is another species of parrot that you need to know. It has a long tail and a light body which can live a life of thirty five years. They have the capability to learn quickly and this way it becomes very easy to teach new tricks to them. So, they are famous for being kept as pets.

Lovebirds
Lovebird is another parrot species which is kept as pet and they are of very small size with beautiful articles. It is advisable to keep them in the pair as they are lovebirds and they will be close to each other rather than having closer to you.

Macaws
Macaws are one another famous parrot species. Macaws are the longest parrot species with the life of almost fifty years. Because of this, you have to give a commitment to Macaw, if you are planning to purchase it. Because, they are big in the size, they require big cage and space. They make more mess of the food and needs frequent care too.

Parakeet
Parakeet is one another specie of the parrots which can be kept as pet. Because of the fact that they have a long tail, they are bit conspicuous. Many people like to keep it as a pet because of their friendly nature.

Parrotlets
Let us also look at the Parrotlets which is another parrot species to keep as pets. They are small aggressive nature parrots that should be watched closely that they don't come out of the cage. And, for the bird kingdom, the glory just may go to the parrots. Parrots are highly intelligent animals, with personalities and understanding of what seems to be the human race- they actually have the ability to think like a child and behave as one, they are strong-willed and capable providing years of enjoyment. The parrot is one of the most colorful in the animal kingdom, with many different parrot types, shapes, sizes and colors.

Parrot Types:

Cockatiels:
The Cockatiel is a parrot that has long been recognized by its distinguished head feathers and tails. Often the center of storybooks, the Cockatiel male has a yellow head with black feathers on the underside of the underside of tale. The birds are gray in body, beak and feet. The mature adult female will have a more grayish head and barred yellow with black feather on the underside of their tail. Cockatiels will vary in a combination of colors however.

Paraketts:
The Parakeet is the "small parrot". Parakeets come in glorious pastels and bright colors and are small. Their colors include dark green, pastel blue, violet, yellow, solid white and a combination of said colors. The Parakett is native to Southeaster Asia.

Parrotlets:
Parrolet is also one of the many parrot types in the parrot family. This pleasant bird is the "little parrot" of the family. The Parrolet is higly energetic and pleasant in disposition.

Conures:
The Conures are mostly found in South and Central America. This wild bird is sleek, friendly and peaceful. Its personality is interactive among other Conures and when in captivity. They portray a sweet disposition and are playful in nature- which the can be very loud.

Lovebirds and Lorries
These colorful, diverse parrots from South Africa are true to their name. Kept in pairs the birds groom one another, sit closely together when resting and sleeping and are truly soul mates. The birds grow to be from five to six inches from head to tail.

Macaws:
From the tropics of America comes the Macaw. The Macaw can be anywhere from the size of a pigeon to three feet or more in length. Brightly colored with large beaks and long tails they are often referred to as winged rainbows.

Amazons:
The Amazon or "Green Parrot" as it is often referred to, originates from South America to Mexico and the Caribbean. Most of the Amazons are green- but all are very intelligent and capable of learning a very extensive vocabulary.

Cockatoos:
The Cocatoo is notorious for its crested head feathers. Native to Australia and Northwestern Asia the bird is distinguished by its powerful hooked bill, thick fleshy tongue and short, strong legs.

But why leave it there? If you were forced to eat the same meal day in day out you would slowly grow insane! Budgies enjoy a varied diet, fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables are all great examples of what can make up a great Parakeet Diet!

Your parakeet will love sharing all different types of fruits with you. Apples, mandarins and pears are often met with loving looks and affectionate nibbles! It's very easy to help your little feathered friend out too, simply place a slice of pear, or whatever fruit you like, into your parakeets cage and they will do the rest!

Why not spice up feeding time as well! Turn this time into a bonding session with your parakeet where you can gain more trust and have some fun at the same time! Hand feed seeds and share pieces of mandarin or apple. You can even combine some greens with bathing if you offer your parakeet a wet lettuce leaf he or she can nibble and have a splash at the same time!

Green vegetables are another fantastic way of adding variety to your parakeet's diet. Believe it or not, some parakeets will enjoy kelp, mustard leaves, cabbage leaves, dandelion leaves, broccoli leaves, cauliflower leaves and even Bok-Choi! There are some greens that can have a negative impact on your parakeets though! So if you are in doubt it is best to consult a vet as some greens can cause liver problems and calcium deficiencies.

If you are thinking about breeding parakeets diet is something to seriously consider! When hens are in breeding condition it is important to have a mineral block and also a piece of cuttlebone somewhere in the parakeet's cage. A proper diet can mean the difference between unhealthy and healthy chicks.

Lentils, almonds, tofu, sesame seeds, and beans! No I'm not talking about last nights special at the Thair restaurant! Parakeets also enjoy these different nuts and grains and they can offer some more variety and nutrients to your feathered friend's existence!

Parakeets are quite clever animals and that means they need more stimulation and excitement than they are probably given credit for! Seeds are a great staple for budgies and parakeets, but don't forget to add some millet, nuts, grains, fruits and vegetables now and then to give your feathered friends some variety and stimulation. Your parakeet will thank you for their new exciting diet!
Before selecting your new pet parakeet, it's important to take time and observe the actions of different birds in the store. Are some more active than others? Are others not as active or seemly sleepy? Any birds that fit this scenario could be signs of an illness and should be rejected. The normal routine activities of birds are eating, sleeping, defecating and playing. All these combined are indications of a health bird.

Eight signs of a healthy bird:
1. Good appetite.
2. Upright posture.
3. Active movement.
4. A clean cere (the area above the beak that covers the birds nostrils).
5. Bright eyes.
6. Clean legs and vent.
7. Smooth feathers.
8. A full chested appearance.

Should you get for 1 or 2 birds? One Parakeet usually makes a more loving pet, because the family becomes its substitute flock. However, two Parakeets are more entertaining as they play and chase each other around the cage. If you decide on getting a pair, it's best to raise them together rather than acquiring one, then later acquire another one. This may cause territorial behavior on the part of the original bird, bullying the new Parakeet, keeping it away from food and water. But, if you only have one bird and decide you want another one, they should be housed in separate cages and gradually move their cages closer together until they get used to being close to each other. Some birds may prefer to be left alone in a cage by themselves with other birds close by, while some will adjust to having other birds in the cage with them. Also, don't put Parakeets with other small birds such as Finches and Canaries because Parakeets may tend to bully the smaller birds keeping them away from food and water. On the other hand, larger birds such as Cockatiels and Lovebirds may show the same behavior toward Parakeets. To control mischief and keep peace between the birds, each one should have its own cage, food dish and water bowl. Some Parakeets will accept other Parakeets during supervised playtime on a play gym, while others will not.

When you bring your Parakeet home, if you have other birds in your home, you will want to quarantine your new Parakeet for at least 30 days to make sure it isn't carrying any diseases which could infect the other birds. This should be done by keeping your Parakeet as far away from your other birds as possible, preferably in another room. Feed your other birds first, then your new Parakeet, and remember to throughly wash your hands before and after handling your new bird. This is just a precautionary measure, but when it comes to your pets health you can't be too careful.

It's natural to want to start playing with your new Parakeet as soon as you get it home, but you need to resist the temptation. Be patient, because your new pet needs to get adjusted to its new environment. Spend this time quietly talking to your new pet, moving slowly around the bird for the first few days so as not to startle it.
You will soon be able to recognize your pets routine and character behavior. You may notice when uncovering its cage in the morning, it chirps a greeting and fluffs its feathers. If your Parakeet should learn to talk it may also greet you with a "hello" or "good morning".

When you purchase your Parakeet don't forget the necessary supplies and accessories you will need.
The following is a list of 10 items needed for your Parakeet.

1. A cage.
2. At least 2 food dishes and 2 water bowls for easier dish changing and cage cleaning.
3. Various perches of different diameters and materials.
4. A sturdy scrub brush to clean the cage and perches.
5. Good quality of fresh seed mixture such as pellets.
6. A millet spray...Parakeets love this treat!
7. Mineral supplements and powdered vitamins to sprinkle in with their food.
8. A variety of safe toys.
9. A towel or sheet to cover the cage with.
10. A play gym for letting the bird out of its cage to exercise.

Parakeets are easily maintained...relatively quiet...ideal pets for small living quarters...intelligent.

Graced in flight with a beautiful, colorful body and stance, and one of the most intelligent animals of the kingdom, it isn't hard to imagine sharing life with a part of this beauty.

Parrots vary in size, shape and color, as there are many different parrot types, but one thing that each carries is a strong personality, intelligence, beauty and a long lifespan.

Parrot Types:

Parakeets
Parakeets are the small little "cookie cutter" birds often seen in pet stores. These birds are characterized by their bright and pastel colors and small size, along with their chirpy voice. Their colors include dark green, yellow, pastel blue, violet, solid white, and a combination of all said colors. The parakeet originates from Southeastern Asia.

Cocatiels
The Cockatiel also is among one of the many parrot types in the parrot family. The beautiful bird is gray in body, beak and feet. The Cockatiel adult male has a yellow head with black feathers on the underside of his tail, while the Cockatiel adult female is more of a grayish head and barred yellow with black feathers on the underside of their tails. They will come in a variety of colors, however, with each being beautiful.

Parrotlets
The parrotlet is also a member of the parrot family. This bird, like most of the parrots of the different parrot types, has a pleasant personality. The high energy parrot with its pleasant disposition makes for a wonderful pet.

Conures
Conures is a specific type of parrot that is mostly found in South and Central America. The wild bird is friendly and peaceful, with interactive personalities. They too, have a sweet disposition and a loving, playful nature. These birds have a loud call in nature which is distinctive.

Lovebirds and Lorries
Lovebirds claim their beautiful name because they are kept in pairs. The loving birds sit closely together when sleeping and resting and are soul mates with one another. Native to South Africa, these parrot types, are truly inspirational as they are peaceful loving birds, beautiful in color. They grow to be about six inches in length from head to tail.

Macaws
This parrot is native to the tropic of America. The Macaw ranges in size from that of a pigeon to three feet or more in length. The Macaw is brightly colored with large beaks and long tails, and is often called winged rainbows, as their colors are that of the rainbow.

Amazons
The "Green Parrot" or Amazon originates from South America to Mexico and the Caribbean. Most are predominantly green. The Amazon is very intelligent and is capable of learning an extensive vocabulary. Cockatoos: The Cockatoo is known for its crested head feather. Native to Australia and Northwestern Asia the Cockatoo has a powerful hooked bill, thick fleshy tongue and short, strong legs.

Caiuqes
Caluqes are festive, active and playful. These parrots make great pets as they are intelligent, beautiful, and playful.

Poicephalus Parrots
This small to medium parrot type originates from Africa. There are many members of this group in the parrot family including the Meyer's Red-bellied and the Yell-Faced.

Parrots are truly one of life's pleasures. The intelligent pets are intellectual and playful. They provide true companionship for their owners as they can interact, talk, perform, and be a friend. How much attention they receive greatly depends on the parrot. While some may love being pampered, others may only enjoy being petted for fifteen minutes of the day.
Although this makes every parakeet bird species very different, they are also similar in many ways. All parakeets are constantly on the go, curious about their surroundings and always playing with toys or exploring the world around them. Also, they all look very similar - small, colorful birds with long, tapered tails.

Parakeets are easy to take care of because they don't have many specialized requirements, unlike larger parrots that are available as pets. They are also easy to tame and tend to get along with other bird species, making them a good choice for a child's pet. They are also incredibly entertaining, having the ability to learn tricks as well as learn to talk. This can provide endless entertainment for you and guests to your home.

Ringneck parakeets or rose-ringed parakeets are easily tamed and trained choices for a household pet. They are naturally green in color with red beaks and the males have a black and rose colored ring around their necks (hence the name 'rose-ringed parakeets'). However, it is possible to obtain different colored ring neck parakeets that have been specially bred such as the blue and cinnamon ringneck.

The only downside of ringneck parakeets is that they need a lot of attention as they tend to get moody and nippy if you don't handle them daily. If your once gentle bird turns into a biting menace, resist your first instinct to be aggressive back as this will only encourage it to bite more. Instead, ignore it and be gentle so that it realizes that you aren't a threat to its existence.

Their intelligence causes them to become bored easily and when they are bored, ring neck parakeets chew things. Thus, it is important to provide them with toys and other suitable objects to chew on or else you run the risk of them destroying something that you value.

They need activity time to play out of the cages which makes them perfect pet birds for small kids. These colorful birds are small and they do not need a lot of care. They could be even trained to talk. They are wonderful companions and can make good relationships with your young kids. If you want a friend for your children, buy a Parakeet. Why do you think they are called Budgies- they are not expensive, that's why this is one more reason for you to choose them .They are not very loud, live about 15 years and they do not require special food, just fresh veggies which you can buy from any greengrocer's. FINCHES live about 7 or 8 years, they are not very messy birds and they do not require a lot of interaction .With their soft chirps and chatter they give you a lot of fun and enjoyable moments with their soothing "music". They are are beautiful and fascinating to watch. They prefer bird company so if you choose a finch, you'd better buy a pair of finches. Be aware that you should not take out finches from the cage . So you should buy a big cage for them because they like flying around. If your kid dream for physically interaction with a bird, choose another . CANARIES are also great pets for your children. They are from the finch family and have a wide array of colors. They do not need a bird companion because they are not as sociable as other members of the finch family. They live from 10 to 15 years. Males sing beautifully which is very relaxing for humans. Canaries do not require a lot of attention. They are perfect for a first time owner.

COCKATIELS as they are large birds are perfect for older kids who like interaction with pets. They are interesting because they can be taught to speak, do funny tricks or whistle. They need more time to interact with than other smaller birds and they relish time out of the bird cage. Also they require large room in the cage for exercises so there should be perches and toys in the cage to play with. Most of these birds live approximately 30 years. DIAMOND DOVES are small birds and they need the company of other doves and require a lot of room. They are easy going and pretty and you don't have to spend much time with them. There should be some perches in the cage as they prefer roosting or setting on high, flat surfaces. They live from 12 to 15 years. PEACH-FACED LOVEBIRDS are high only 6 ½ inches and live 20 years. They are able to learn a few tricks. They are very energetic and colorful. They are not that noisy as larger parrots. But also they may become territorial and protective. They require lots of toys, perches and a play gym. You should change water once a day and clean the cage. SPECTACLED PARROTLETS are small 5 inches birds , very energetic and suitable pets for teenagers. They need lots of space to play with their toys , changing water once a day and cage cleaning. Also they require time for personal interaction and activity. These curious and even feisty little creatures are not cheap and live 20 or more years and need more food that other birds.

SOME OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER At first you have to determine how mature is your child. In general children less than 7-8 years old are not prepared to look after a pet , of course there are some exceptions when some children behave more responsibly than their contemporaries. First see how your child and a bird will feel and interact together, so visit a breeder or a pet store. Notice how long your child's attention will be kept by the bird and whether he or she reacts badly if being bitten for example. Otherwise the pet bird care will be your responsibility. You have to bE sure that your child is consistent in caring for the birds as they need daily attention and social interaction. Remind your child what his responsibilities will be :cleaning the cage, daily changing water, feeding and so forth. Children usually promise to do it but often forget, so you have to remind them to keep their word unless you or your pet bird will suffer. What about the noise? Some of the birds like singing and chattering all day. Of course there are some kinds of birds which are quieter but even they tend to be more vocal if they live in homes with children, maybe because they respond to the childrens voices. If the volume is a problem then you have to choose those which are less noisy. Children often do not realize that birds are fragile and they could easily injure or even kill their pet when they hug it or move carelessly .The risk is bigger if the bird is small . With bigger birds there is another risk - the child could be bitten or frightened by them. Your children have to be aware of this risk and to be very careful not to be harmed to keep the birds far away from their faces.

We hope that all this has helped you to decide whether the pet bird is good for you and your child or to try another pet.
What to look for when purchasing.

A nice dwelling for your pet bird is the first step towards years of enjoyment for the two or you and the family.

Bird cages for parakeets must provide some essentials. The cage must make your little buddy feel safe. The cage should also be a place that provides all the nutrition the avian will need. To provide all of this and more, you must plan ahead.

The very first thing to consider is the size of the cage. You do not want your new pet to feel like it was sentenced to solitary confinement in a prison. You have to make sure there is enough room in bird cages for parakeets. How do you determine how much room is enough? Parakeets like to fly. The bird cage should provide enough room for the parakeet to fly around some. You should get a cage that is roomy enough for the parakeet and one you as the owner can handle. One thing to keep in mind is that bigger cages for parakeets are harder to clean and take a lot more time to take care of.

The next thing to consider that is essential for the parakeets health and well being are the bars of the cage. By ignoring this, you will probably end up with a dead or seriously injured bird.

The space between the bars is what is important. Larger cages will generally have the spacing between the bars farther apart. Although, today the companys that make bird cages for parakeets will make the same size cage with different bar spacing. You must make sure that the parakeet can not get its head between the bars anywhere on the cage.

Another thing to consider is the material that the bird cages for parakeets are made of. Do not ever get a cage that is made of wood. This type of cage will not last very long. The bird will have a jolly old time pecking and pulling apart the wood. They will eventually have an escape route. Wood is also very pourous and almost impossible to keep clean. Some types of wood can be poisonous to your parakeet to.

The recommended material for a bird cage for parakeets is metal. A stainless steel or powder coated rolled steel will work very well. The only thing you have to look out for is that the bird can not get to any of the welds. They will peck at the welds until they come apart.

Another thing to look at in bird cages for parakeets is the floor. You should make sure the floor of the bird cage will be easy to clean. The easier you find it to clean, the more often you will probably do it. A cage that is equipped with a pullout floor is a good choice. This not only makes it easier to clean but also faster. The floor bottom should have some kind of grate. This allows food and droppings to fall through it preventing the bird from walking in filth and old food. Layers of newspaper work really well in the bottom. When one layer gets dirty, pull it out to exopse the next layer.

Newspaper is really the only thing you should be using in the bottom of bird cages for parakeets. Cat litter and other stuff is poisonous to birds.

When you get all this stuff for the bird cages for parakeets you will need storage. A place to keep all the extra stuff. Keep it in your organized garage. Put it in your garage cabinets to keep the little critters out of the stuff.

While some parakeets learn to talk without coaching or training, some will require encouragement to get their beaks speaking. Some parakeets only start talking when their owners let them hear specific phrases, words and sounds. If you successfully train a parakeet to talk, you and your family will love your pet even more.

A nourished and well cared pet will more likely demonstrate an interest in repeating sounds as well as talking. A parakeet that is watered, well-fed, and has a mirror and other plaything in his cage is the best aspirant for speech training. This is for the reason that loved pets will want to gain knowledge on how they can communicate effectively with their master and provider.

It's important to note that the male parakeets are distinguished as good talkers. So if you want to have an outspoken pet, it's best to adopt a male parakeet. This doesn't mean that female parakeets just make sounds and do not talk, but in general the female birds are slower in adapting new words and training a female bird might not give you the results you are looking for.

Remember, even if you choose to train a parakeet that is a male, it doesn't give you a guarantee that it will talk. Some parakeets only become skillful in whistling, but talking is not a talent every bird of this kind desires to learn. You should be patient enough to see results. Some breeds of parakeets that are more likely to utter words are the Alexandrine, Australian, English, Plum-head and Ring-necked parakeets. They are also known for having the ability to distinguish individual objects and even people.

Parakeets find it easier to repeat or reiterate words exhibiting hard syllables. You should examine what words are more difficult to speak than others. One of the common phrases parakeets speak is "pretty birdie". This specific phrase encloses hard syllables that make it effortless for talking birds like parakeets to repeat or mimic. You should think of words and phrases containing hard syllables and say them to your bird frequently.

Birds respond well with a dark surrounding. So when you start your training session, you should darken the room to get your parakeet's full attention. Begin saying a phrase or word and repeat it several times. Teach your bird three times a day for about fifteen minutes each. Don't get disappointed if your bird didn't talk immediately. Put in mind that most birds take several days or even weeks before it speak the phrase or word you're teaching.

If you go to work during weekdays, consider making speech training sessions on a recorded tape and leave it to someone who stays in your house. This will not only save you time and effort but the training will be more consistent with this strategy.

If you follow these steps to train a parakeet, your pet will start repeating sounds and words in no time. This will also make your pet the center of attention in your home, making you the proudest mentor ever.
This will help ensure that you and your pet bird enjoy a long, happy relationship.

Parakeet Cages

Parakeets, also called budgies, require the proper cage. Make sure it's a cage designed for small birds, with narrow gaps between the cage bars. Get the largest cage you can afford - it should have enough space for your parakeet to open his wings fully. The cage should have a swing, and at least two perches. Attach a cuttlebone to the side of the cage so your parakeet can keep his beak trim.

Make sure the cage has a pull out bottom drawer so you can easily keep the floor clean. Place newspapers or bird paper down on the bottom to absorb the droppings. You can sometimes find parakeet cages with a grated floor above the bottom of the cage - this will keep your parakeet off the dirty bottom.

Position the cage off the floor in a draft--free area. If you're concerned about drafts, cover the sides or parts of the cage with towels to be on the safe side.

Parakeet Feeding

Give your parakeet fresh food and water daily. Buy a good seed mixture designed for parakeets and supplement their diet with vitamin drops and bird gravel (available in most pet stores). Whenever opening their cage, use caution and make sure all the doors and windows are closed - because a parakeet can escape in a flash. Also make sure no household predators are around (dogs, cats, etc.).

Parakeet Handling

Parakeets frighten easily, so try to avoid any noisy or sudden movements towards them. Take your time and be gentle whenever you're around them, this will gradually gain their trust. You should immediately begin the process of getting them used to you and your hand. You can do this by placing your hand in their cage and leaving it there for 5 - 10 minutes, as often as you can. While your hand is in their cage, sing and talk soothingly to your parakeet and this will help establish a bond of trust. After a period of time, you'll be able to place your forefinger under your budgie's chest and he'll hop right on your finger and stay there for longer and longer periods of time.

Parakeet Exercise

To stay healthy, a parakeet needs exercise - and this means flight. You should let your parakeet out of his cage to fly every day. Start out slowly, because a bird that's been caged for a long time will be very weak in the beginning and have problems flying. Take his cage into a small room, such as a bathroom, and open the door to his cage. He'll eventually get out and try to fly. There will be some crashes and frustration, but in a small room such as a bathroom, you won't have to worry about him getting stuck behind a bookcase. After a week or so, he should be in flight--shape and then you can begin letting him out to fly in larger rooms.

Parakeet Health Care

Parakeets are susceptible to a variety of diseases, but the most common and potentially fatal is diarrhea. Keep an eye on her stools - they should be round and solid. If they are consistently runny, then she could have diarrhea. Think about any changes you might have made to your parakeet. Have you given her table food? Many table foods can be harmful to a parakeet and give them diarrhea, even seemingly harmless foods such as iceberg lettuce. Stick to seed and treats designed for parakeets and go to the pet store or call your veterinarian for an anti--diarrhea medicine designed for parakeets.

Good parakeet care doesn't have to be complicated. Just take the time to give him attention and care on a daily basis. And it's a good idea to invest in a good parakeet or budgie care handbook.
