Solid matter is energy moving at slower frequency rates. This paradigm permits us to view human beings as networks of complex, interrelated energy fields that interface with the physical body on every level. The human form consists of multi-layers of energy frequencies that travel around and through the denser form that we call the physical form. Each layer has a purpose in supporting and manifesting the physical human.

The supporting layers consist of energy fields moving both in and around the human body. There is the central channel which supports and contains the chakra system, there is the physical body which contains the meridian channels, the etheric body, the astral (emotional) body , the mental body, and causal body and the soul energy that are all embodied in and around the physical form. Any disruption in the energy flow that supports the physical form can manifest as physical, mental or emotional discomfort or disease processes. As we are beings of energy, it follows that we can therefore be affected by energy.

Many ancient healing philosophies have viewed the body as an energetic form and have focused their healing approach on restoring energy balance in the body. For thousands of years Oriental medical modalities have sought to heal through restoring balance to the body through effecting change in the meridian flows in the body through the use of acupuncture, acupressure, herbal remedies, etc. Other philosophies have focused on the chakra system which is comprised of a system of seven on body chakras or energy centers, each of which hold the energy for various aspects of human development, growth and balance. Restoring balance to the chakra system improves overall health and well-being.

From an indigenous view all things in nature possess energy qualities that can be utilized in bringing balance and healing whenever an imbalance is found that manifests as disease. An extension of this philosophy is the use of color therapy, stones (including crystals), flower essences, aroma therapy, geometric patterning, sound therapy, etc. to heal the body and surrounding energy fields.

Another approach to energy healing is through direct hands-on contact with the energy practitioner who draws healing energy to the client to restore energy flow, calm the nervous system and release constrictive, non-flowing energy patterns. Examples of this type of energy healing are Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, aura clearings and other laying-on-of hands forms of healing.

Consciousness itself, as a form of energy manifest in the human body, plays a role in health and balance in the physical form. It is this higher spiritual impetus which drives the biological evolutionary process itself. Soul consciousness is projected in the human form for the purpose of gaining experience, knowledge and spiritual maturity. Energy patterns form in each life incarnation and those patterns which may still need completing come with us into our current lifetime. So collectively there may be energy patterns we are conscious of and those that we are less aware of that affect our life today. Bringing balance to the body / mind / soul connection cannot be overlooked as a significant energy component to overall health and sense of well being.

The options in energy practice are many and varied, however all energy work therapies can be useful in improving physical, mental and emotional health by bringing balance to the energy systems that support the full human form. They can also assist in the body/mind/spiritual aspect by releasing long held patterns, integrating information and raising overall energy levels. Energy modalities can also be very useful when used in conjunction with other healing approaches.

From the quantum physics point of view, all things consist of energy vibrating at various frequencies. Pietro was in France on business when Francis was born, and Pica had him baptised as Giovanni di Bernardone in honor of Saint John the Baptist, in the hope he would grow to be a great religious leader. When his father returned to Assisi, he was furious about this, as he did not want his son to be a man of the Church and decided to call him Francesco, in honor of his commercial success and enthusiasm for all things French.

As a youth, Francesco—or Francis in English—became a troubadour and yearned to become a writer of French poetry. Although many biographers remark about his bright clothing, rich friends, street brawls, and love of pleasure, his displays of disillusionment toward the world that surrounded him came fairly early in his life, as is shown in the "story of the beggar." In this account, he was selling cloth and velvet in the marketplace on behalf of his father when a beggar came to him and asked for alms. At the conclusion of his business deal, Francis abandoned his wares and ran after the beggar. When he found him, Francis gave the man everything he had in his pockets. His friends quickly chided and mocked him for his act of charity. When he got home, his father scolded him in rage.

In 1201, he joined a military expedition against Perugia, he was taken as a prisoner at Collestrada, and spent a year as a captive. It is probable that his conversion to more serious thoughts was a gradual process relating to this experience. Upon his return to Assisi in 1203, Francis returned to his carefree life and in 1204, a serious illness led to a spiritual crisis. In 1205 Francis left for Puglia to enlist in the army of the Count of Brienne. In Spoleto, a strange vision made him return to Assisi, deepening his ecclesiastical awakening.

Francis of Assisi by Francisco de ZurbaránIt is said that thereafter he began to avoid the sports and the feasts of his former companions; in response, they asked him laughingly whether he was thinking of marrying, to which he answered "yes, a fairer bride than any of you have ever seen", meaning his "lady poverty". He spent much time in lonely places, asking God for enlightenment. By degrees he took to nursing lepers, the most repulsive victims in the lazar houses near Assisi. After a pilgrimage to Rome, where he begged at the church doors for the poor, he said he had had a mystical vision of Jesus Christ in the Church of San Damiano just outside of Assisi, in which the Icon of Christ Crucified came alive and said to him three times, "Francis, Francis, go and repair My house which, as you can see, is falling into ruins". He thought this to mean the ruined church in which he was presently praying, and so sold his horse and some cloth from his father's store, to assist the priest there for this purpose.

His father Pietro, highly indignant, attempted to change his mind, first with threats and then with beatings. After a final interview in the presence of the bishop, Francis renounced his father and his patrimony, laying aside even the garments he had received from him. For the next couple of months he lived as a beggar in the region of Assisi. Returning to the town for two years this time, he restored several ruined churches, among them the Porziuncola, little chapel of St Mary of the Angels, just outside the town, which later became his favorite abode.

At the end of this period (according to Jordanus, on 24 February 1209), Francis heard a sermon that changed his life. The sermon was about Matthew 10:9, in which Christ tells his followers that they should go forth and proclaim that the Kingdom of Heaven was upon them, that they should take no money with them, nor even a walking stick or shoes for the road.[2] Francis was inspired to devote himself to a life of poverty.

Clad in a rough garment, barefoot, and, after the Evangelical precept, without staff or scrip, he began to preach repentance.[2] He was soon joined by his first follower, a prominent fellow townsman, the jurist Bernardo di Quintavalle, who contributed all that he had to the work. Within a year Francis had eleven followers. Francis chose never to be ordained a priest and the community lived as "lesser brothers," fratres minores in Latin.

The brothers lived a simple life in the deserted lazar house of Rivo Torto near Assisi; but they spent much of their time wandering through the mountainous districts of Umbria, always cheerful and full of songs, yet making a deep impression on their hearers by their earnest exhortations.

In 1209, Francis led his first eleven followers to Rome to seek permission from Pope Innocent III to found a new religious order. Upon entry to Rome, the brothers encountered Bishop Guido of Assisi, who had in his company Giovanni di San Paolo, the cardinal bishop of Sabina. The Cardinal, who was the confessor of Pope Innocent III, was immediately sympathetic to Francis and agreed to represent Francis to the pope. Reluctantly, Pope Innocent agreed to meet with Francis and the brothers the next day. After several days, the pope agreed to admit the group informally, adding that when God increased the group in grace and number, they could return for an official admittance. The group was tonsured and Francis was ordained as a deacon, allowing him to read Gospels in the church.

From then on, his new order grew quickly with new vocations. When hearing Francis preaching in the church of San Rufino in Assisi in 1209, Clare of Assisi became deeply touched by his message and she realized her calling. Her brother Rufino also joined the new order.

On Palm Sunday, 28 March 1211 Francis received Clare at the Porziuncola and hereby established the Order of Poor Dames, later called Poor Clares. In the same year, Francis left for Jerusalem, but he was shipwrecked by a storm on the Dalmatian coast, forcing him to return to Italy.

On 8 May 1213 he received the mountain of La Verna (Alverna) as a gift from the count Orlando di Chiusi who described it as “eminently suitable for whoever wishes to do penance in a place remote from mankind.” The mountain would become one of his favorite retreats for prayer. In the same year, Francis sailed for Morocco, but this time an illness forced him to break off his journey in Spain. Back in Assisi, several noblemen (among them Tommaso da Celano, who would later write the biography of St. Francis) and some well-educated men joined his order.

In 1215 Francis went again to Rome for the Fourth Lateran Council. During this time, he probably met Dominic de Guzman.

In 1216 Francis received from the new pope Honorius III the confirmation of the indulgence of the Porziuncola, now better known as the Pardon of Assisi, which the Pope decreed to be a complete remission of their sins for all those who prayed in the Porziuncola.

In 1217 the growing congregation of friars was divided in provinces and groups were sent to France, Germany, Hungary, Spain and to the East.

St. Francis before the Sultan — the trial by fire (fresco attributed to Giotto)In 1219 Francis left, together with a few companions, on a pilgrimage to Egypt. Crossing the lines between the sultan and the Crusaders in Damietta, he was received by the sultan Melek-el-Kamel. Francis challenged the Muslim scholars to a test of true religion by fire; but they retreated. When Francis proposed to enter the fire first, under the condition that if he left the fire unharmed, the sultan would have to recognize Christ as the true God, the sultan was so impressed that he allowed Francis to preach to his subjects. Though Francis did not succeed in converting the sultan, the last words of the sultan to Francis of Assisi were, according to Jacques de Vitry, bishop of Acre, in his book "Historia occidentalis, De Ordine et praedicatione Fratrum Minorum (1221)" : “Pray for me that God may deign to reveal to me that law and faith which is most pleasing to him.”.

Francis' visit to Egypt and attempted rapprochement with the Muslim World had far-reaching consequences, long past his own death - since after the fall of the Crusader Kingdom it would be the Franciscans, of all Catholics, who would be allowed to stay on in the Holy Land and be recognised as "Custodians of the Holy Land" on behalf of Christianity.

Saint Francis of Assisi with the Sultan al-Kamil (15th century)At Acre, the capital of what remained of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, he rejoined the brothers Elia and Pietro Cattini. Francis then most probably visited the holy places in Palestine in 1220.

Although nativity drawings and paintings existed earlier, St Francis of Assisi celebrated Christmas by setting up the first known three-dimensional presepio or crèche (Nativity scene) in the town of Greccio near Assisi, around 1220. He used real animals to create a living scene so that the worshipers could contemplate the birth of the child Jesus in a direct way, making use of the senses, especially sight. Thomas of Celano, a biographer of Francis and Saint Bonaventure both tell how he only used a straw-filled manger (feeding trough) set between a real ox and donkey. According to Thomas, it was beautiful in its simplicity with the manger acting as the altar for the Christmas Mass.

When receiving a report of the martyrdom of five brothers in Morocco, Francis returned to Italy via Venice. Cardinal Ugolino di Conti was then nominated by the Pope as the protector of the order. When problems arose in the order, a detailed rule became necessary. On September 29, 1220 Francis handed over the governance of the order to brother Pietro Cattini at the Porziuncola. However, Brother Cattini died on March 10, 1221. He was buried in the Porziuncola. When numerous miracles were attributed to the late Pietro Cattini, people started to flock to the Porziuncola, disturbing the daily life of the Franciscans. Francis then prayed, asking Pietro to stop the miracles and obey in death as he had obeyed during his life. The report of miracles ceased. Brother Pietro was succeeded by brother Elia as vicar of Francis.

During 1221 and 1222 Francis crossed Italy, first as far south as Catania in Sicily and afterwards as far north as Bologna.

On November 29, 1223 the final rule of the order (in twelve chapters) was approved by Pope Honorius III.

St. Francis receives the Stigmata (fresco attributed to Giotto)While he was praying on the mountain of Verna, during a forty day fast in preparation for Michaelmas (September 29), Francis is said to have had a vision on or about September 14, 1224, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, as a result of which he received the stigmata. Brother Leo, who had been with Francis at the time, left a clear and simple account of the event, the first definite account of the phenomenon of stigmata. "Suddenly he saw a vision of a seraph, a six-winged angel on a cross. This angel gave him the gift of the five wounds of Christ."

Suffering from these Stigmata and from an eye disease, he received care in several cities (Siena, Cortona, Nocera) to no avail. In the end he was brought back to the Porziuncola. He was brought to the "transito," the hut for infirmed friars, next to the Porziuncola. Here, in the place where it all began, feeling the end approaching, he spent the last days of his life dictating his spiritual testament. He died on the evening of October 3, 1226 singing Psalm 141.

On July 16, 1228 he was pronounced a saint by the next pope Gregory IX, the former cardinal Ugolino di Conti, friend and protector of St Francis. The next day, the pope laid the foundation stone for the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi.

He was buried on May 25, 1230 under the Lower Basilica. His burial place remained inaccessible until it was rediscovered in 1818. Pasquale Belli then constructed for his remains a crypt in neo-classical style under the Lower Basilica. It was refashioned between 1927 and 1930 into its present form by Ugo Tarchi, stripping the wall of its marble decorations. In 1978 the remains of St. Francis were identified by a commission of scholars, appointed by Pope Paul VI and put in a glass urn in the ancient stone tomb.

Saint Francis is considered the first Italian poet by literary critics. He believed commoners should be able to pray to God in their own language, and he wrote always in the dialect of Umbria instead of Latin. His writings are considered to have great literary value, as well as religious.

Feast day
Saint Francis' feast day is observed on October 4. In addition to this feast, a secondary feast is still observed amongst Traditional Roman Catholics and Franciscans worldwide in honor of the stigmata received by St Francis celebrated on September 17 called "The Impression of the Stigmata of St Francis, Confessor" (see the General Roman Calendar as in 1954, the General Roman Calendar of Pope Pius XII, and the General Roman Calendar of 1962). On June 18th 1939 Pope Pius XII named him a joint Patron Saint of Italy along with Saint Catherine of Siena with the apostolic letter "Licet Commissa", AAS XXXI (1939), 256-257. Pius XII also remembered the two saints in the laudative discourse he pronounced on May 5th 1949 in the Santa Maria sopra Minerva Church.

Nature and the environment

A garden statue of Francis of Assisi with birdsMany of the stories that surround the life of St. Francis deal with his love for animals.[21] Perhaps the most famous incident that illustrates the Saint's humility towards nature is recounted in the "Fioretti" ("Little Flowers"), a collection of legends and folklore that sprang up after the Saint's death. It is said that, one day, while Francis was traveling with some companions, they happened upon a place in the road where birds filled the trees on either side. Francis told his companions to "wait for me while I go to preach to my sisters the birds".[21] The birds surrounded him, drawn by the power of his voice, and not one of them flew away. Francis spoke to them:

My sister birds, you owe much to God, and you must always and in everyplace give praise to Him; for He has given you freedom to wing through the sky and He has clothed you... you neither sow nor reap, and God feeds you and gives you rivers and fountains for your thirst, and mountains and valleys for shelter, and tall trees for your nests. And although you neither know how to spin or weave, God dresses you and your children, for the Creator loves you greatly and He blesses you abundantly. Therefore... always seek to praise God.

Another legend from the Fioretti tells that in the city of Gubbio, where Francis lived for some time, was a wolf "terrifying and ferocious, who devoured men as well as animals". Francis had compassion upon the townsfolk, and went up into the hills to find the wolf. Soon, fear of the animal had caused all his companions to flee, though the saint pressed on. When he found the wolf, he made the sign of the cross and commanded the wolf to come to him and hurt no one. Miraculously the wolf closed his jaws and lay down at the feet of St. Francis. "Brother Wolf, you do much harm in these parts and you have done great evil...", said Francis. "All these people accuse you and curse you... But brother wolf, I would like to make peace between you and the people". Then Francis led the wolf into the town, and surrounded by startled citizens made a pact between them and the wolf. Because the wolf had “done evil out of hunger”, the townsfolk were to feed the wolf regularly, and in return, the wolf would no longer prey upon them or their flocks. In this manner Gubbio was freed from the menace of the predator. Francis, ever the lover of animals, even made a pact on behalf of the town dogs, that they would not bother the wolf again. It is also said that Francis, to show the townspeople that they would not be harmed, baptised the wolf.

These legends exemplify the Franciscan mode of charity and poverty as well as the saint's love of the natural world.[22] Part of his appreciation of the environment is expressed in his Canticle of the Sun, a poem written in Umbrian Italian in perhaps 1224 which expresses a love and appreciation of Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Mother Earth, Brother Fire, etc. and all of God's creations personified in their fundamental forms. In "Canticle of the Creatures," he wrote: "All praise to you, Oh Lord, for all these brother and sister creatures."

Francis's attitude towards the natural world, while poetically expressed, was conventionally Christian.[4] He believed that the world was created good and beautiful by God but suffers a need for redemption because of the primordial sin of man. He preached to man and beast the universal ability and duty of all creatures to praise God (a common theme in the Psalms) and the duty of men to protect and enjoy nature as both the stewards of God's creation and as creatures ourselves.[21]

Legend has it that St. Francis on his deathbed thanked his donkey for carrying and helping him throughout his life, and his donkey wept.

prayer of francis of assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Modern cosmological conceptions follow the development of the scientific discipline of physical cosmology.

ca. 12th century BC - The Rigveda has some cosmological hymns, particularly in the late book 10, notably the Nasadiya Sukta which describes the origin of the universe, originating from the monistic Hiranyagarbha or "Golden Egg".

6th century BC the Babylonian world map shows Babylon on the Euphrates, surrounded by a circular landmass showing Assyria, Armenia and several cities, in turn surrounded by a "bitter river" (Oceanus), with seven islands arranged around it so as to form a seven-pointed star. Contemporary Biblical cosmology of the Tanakh reflects the same view of the earth as a plain or a hill figured like a hemisphere, swimming on water and overarched by the solid vault of the firmament. To this vault are fastened the stars.

4th century BC - Aristotle proposes an Earth-centred universe in which the Earth is stationary and the universe is finite in extent but infinite in time

3rd century BC - Aristarchus of Samos proposes a Sun-centered universe

2nd century BC - Seleucus of Seleucia elaborates on Aristarchus' heliocentric universe, using the phenomenon of tides to explain heliocentrism

2nd century AD - Ptolemy proposes an Earth-centred universe, with the Sun and planets revolving around the Earth

5th-11th centuries - Several astronomers propose a Sun-centered universe, including Aryabhata, Albumasar and Al-Sijzi

6th century - John Philoponus proposes a universe that is finite in time and argues against the ancient Greek notion of an infinite universe

ca. 8th century Puranic Hindu cosmology, in which the universe goes through repeated cycles of creation, destruction and rebirth, with each cycle lasting 4.32 billion years.

9th-12th centuries - Al-Kindi (Alkindus), Saadia Gaon (Saadia ben Joseph) and the Al-Ghazali (Algazel) support a universe that has a finite past and develop two logical arguments against the notion of an infinite past, one of which is later adopted by Immanuel Kant

964 - Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi (Azophi), a Persian astronomer, makes the first recorded observations of the Andromeda Galaxy and the Large Magellanic Cloud, the first galaxies other than the Milky Way to be observed from Earth, in his Book of Fixed Stars

13th century - Nasīr al-Dīn al-Tūsī provides the first empirical evidence for the Earth's rotation on its axis

15th century - Ali Kuşçu provides empirical evidence for the Earth's rotation on its axis and rejects the stationary Earth theories of Aristotle and Ptolemy

15th-16th centuries - Nilakantha Somayaji and Tycho Brahe propose a universe in which the planets orbit the Sun and the Sun orbits the Earth, known as the Tychonic system

1543 - Nicolaus Copernicus publishes his heliocentric universe in his De revolutionibus orbium coelestium

1576 - Thomas Digges modifies the Copernican system by removing its outer edge and replacing the edge with a star-filled unbounded space

1584 - Giordano Bruno proposes a non-hierarchical cosmology, wherein the Copernican solar system is not the centre of the universe, but rather, a relatively insignificant star system, amongst an infinite multitude of others

1610 - Johannes Kepler uses the dark night sky to argue for a finite universe

1687 - Sir Isaac Newton's laws describe large-scale motion throughout the universe

1720 - Edmund Halley puts forth an early form of Olbers' paradox

1744 - Jean-Philippe de Cheseaux puts forth an early form of Olbers' paradox

1791 - Erasmus Darwin pens the first description of a cyclical expanding and contracting universe in his poem The Economy of Vegetation

1826 - Heinrich Wilhelm Olbers puts forth Olbers' paradox

1848 - Edgar Allan Poe offers first correct solution to Olbers' paradox in Eureka: A Prose Poem, an essay that also suggests the expansion and collapse of the universe

1900-1949

1905 - Albert Einstein publishes the Special Theory of Relativity, positing that space and time are not separate continua

1915 - Albert Einstein publishes the General Theory of Relativity, showing that an energy density warps spacetime

1917 - Willem de Sitter derives an isotropic static cosmology with a cosmological constant, as well as an empty expanding cosmology with a cosmological constant, termed a de Sitter universe

1922 - Vesto Slipher summarizes his findings on the spiral nebulae's systematic redshifts

1922 - Alexander Friedmann finds a solution to the Einstein field equations which suggests a general expansion of space

1927 - Georges Lemaître discusses the creation event of an expanding universe governed by the Einstein field equations

1928 - Howard Percy Robertson briefly mentions that Vesto Slipher's redshift measurements combined with brightness measurements of the same galaxies indicate a redshift-distance relation

1929 - Edwin Hubble demonstrates the linear redshift-distance relation and thus shows the expansion of the universe

1933 - Edward Milne names and formalizes the cosmological principle

1934 - Georges Lemaître interprets the cosmological constant as due to a vacuum energy with an unusual perfect fluid equation of state

1938 - Paul Dirac suggests the large numbers hypothesis, that the gravitational constant may be small because it is decreasing slowly with time

1948 - Ralph Alpher, Hans Bethe ("in absentia"), and George Gamow examine element synthesis in a rapidly expanding and cooling universe, and suggest that the elements were produced by rapid neutron capture

1948 - Hermann Bondi, Thomas Gold, and Fred Hoyle propose steady state cosmologies based on the perfect cosmological principle

1948 - George Gamow predicts the existence of the cosmic microwave background radiation by considering the behavior of primordial radiation in an expanding universe

1950 to 1999

1950 - Fred Hoyle derisively coins the term "Big Bang".

1961 - Robert Dicke argues that carbon-based life can only arise when the gravitational force is small, because this is when burning stars exist; first use of the weak anthropic principle

1965 - Hannes Alfvén proposes the now-discounted concept of ambiplasma to explain baryon asymmetry.

1965 - Martin Rees and Dennis Sciama analyze quasar source count data and discover that the quasar density increases with redshift.

1965 - Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, astronomers at Bell Labs discover the 2.7 K microwave background radiation, which earns them the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physics. Robert Dicke, James Peebles, Peter Roll and David Todd Wilkinson interpret it as relic from the big bang.

1966 - Stephen Hawking and George Ellis show that any plausible general relativistic cosmology is singular

1966 - James Peebles shows that the hot Big Bang predicts the correct helium abundance

1967 - Andrei Sakharov presents the requirements for baryogenesis, a baryon-antibaryon asymmetry in the universe

1967 - John Bahcall, Wal Sargent, and Maarten Schmidt measure the fine-structure splitting of spectral lines in 3C191 and thereby show that the fine-structure constant does not vary significantly with time

1968 - Brandon Carter speculates that perhaps the fundamental constants of nature must lie within a restricted range to allow the emergence of life; first use of the strong anthropic principle

1969 - Charles Misner formally presents the Big Bang horizon problem

1969 - Robert Dicke formally presents the Big Bang flatness problem

1973 - Edward Tryon proposes that the universe may be a large scale quantum mechanical vacuum fluctuation where positive mass-energy is balanced by negative gravitational potential energy

1974 - Robert Wagoner, William Fowler, and Fred Hoyle show that the hot Big Bang predicts the correct deuterium and lithium abundances

1976 - Alex Shlyakhter uses samarium ratios from the Oklo prehistoric natural nuclear fission reactor in Gabon to show that some laws of physics have remained unchanged for over two billion years

1977 - Gary Steigman, David Schramm, and James Gunn examine the relation between the primordial helium abundance and number of neutrinos and claim that at most five lepton families can exist.

1981 - Viacheslav Mukhanov and G. Chibisov propose that quantum fluctuations could lead to large scale structure in an inflationary universe

1981 - Alan Guth proposes the inflationary Big Bang universe as a possible solution to the horizon and flatness problems

1990 - Preliminary results from NASA's COBE mission confirm the cosmic microwave background radiation is an isotropic blackbody to an astonishing one part in 105 precision, thus eliminating the possibility of an integrated starlight model proposed for the background by steady state enthusiasts.

1990s - Ground based cosmic microwave background experiments measure the first peak, determine that the universe is geometrically flat.

1998 - Controversial evidence for the fine structure constant varying over the lifetime of the universe is first published.

1998 - Adam Riess, Saul Perlmutter and others discover the cosmic acceleration in observations of Type Ia supernovae providing the first evidence for a non-zero cosmological constant.

1999 - Measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation (most notably by the BOOMERanG experiment see Mauskopf et al., 1999, Melchiorri et al., 1999, de Bernardis et al. 2000) provide evidence for oscillations (peaks) in the anisotropy angular spectrum as expected in the standard model of cosmological structure formation. These results indicates that the geometry of the universe is flat. Together with large scale structure data, this provides complementary evidence for a non-zero cosmological constant.

Since 2000

2002 - The Cosmic Background Imager (CBI) in Chile obtained images of the cosmic microwave background radiation with the highest angular resolution of 4 arcmin. It also obtained the anisotropy spectrum at high-resolution not covered before up to l ~ 3000. It found a slight excess in power at high-resolution (l > 2500) not yet completely explained, the so-called "CBI-excess".

2003 - NASA's WMAP obtained full-sky detailed pictures of the cosmic microwave background radiation. The image can be interpreted to indicate that the universe is 13.7 billion years old (within one percent error) and confirm that the Lambda-CDM model and the inflationary theory are correct.

2003 - The Sloan Great Wall is discovered.

2004 - The Degree Angular Scale Interferometer (DASI) first obtained the E-mode polarization spectrum of the cosmic microwave background radiation.

2006 - The long-awaited three-year WMAP results are released, confirming previous analysis, correcting several points, and including polarization data.

Grown in the lush wet rainforest regions of Mexico, salvia divinorum has been part of seasonal healing circles and spiritual meditation groups by shamans, mystics, and healers for centuries. This tiny plant produces white and purple blossoms along with dark green leaves, which are the only part of the plant used in ceremonies of any kind. Divine sage or truth seeker is the literal translation of salvia divinorum, which effects have been known to deepen or alter states of consciousness. With the gentle and experienced guidance of a spiritual leader, those who have used salvia divinorum in spiritual circles have claimed a life-changing experience. Some have reported out of body experiences that have taken them backwards in time or in some cases a quick jump forward. There have been reports after using salvia divinorum of clearer insight and a re-focus of sorts in one’s life. Also, reported and documented is a deeper sense of meaning and commitment to vision beyond our comprehension in terms of mystical or spiritual paths. Whether smoking, ingesting, or chewing salvia divinorum, one will experience the effects almost immediately in a positive and gentle fashion especially if your purpose is to deepen or awaken to a new consciousness. If you use meditation as part of your spiritual practice, you will notice an immediate openness to your practice especially when your spiritual leader guides you. Salvia divinorum is legal in most states, non-hallucinogenic, and non-addictive. Salvia divinorum can be purchased at many online sites and delivered to your doorstep within days.

Click here for more details : www.salviadragon.com
About the Author:

I am the owner of this site.

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Tell Me About Salvia Divinorum – What’s It Used For?

The bible also says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. This is because you were created in the image and likeness of God. God is not a sickly, oppressed and confused being. No. He is perfect in health - His state is not even about health but life and divine life for that matter.

God's will is that you may enjoy good health through out your life. This is His perfect plan for you. He says "I am the Lord that heals you". This is a sure commitment from your God and Creator that any time you fall sick, He is willing to heal you. You get healed by receiving His word as the bible says how He sends His word and that word heals all your diseases.

God is not just excited about you getting sick then healing you, but has a good plan to preserve you in good health. He can protect you against all manner of sicknesses and diseases that seem to be afflicting every one around you.

In the third letter of John and verse 2, the bible says "Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers". God's will for your health is not just limited to your physical body, but he wants you to experience emotional and spiritual healing also. Your mind needs to experience divine healing for you to make accurate and rational decisions.

As you pray, ask God for healing in all aspects of your life because it is His will to do so and it is also your right as His child. Do not stay oppressed by sicknesses, diseases, confusion and heartaches. You can pray like this "heal me oh Lord, and I will be healed".

This Tantra breathing technique is marginally similar to ujayyi pranayama, where the word 'ujayyi' means 'triumphant'. It produces intense body heat and makes one sweat profusely. It stimulates our organs and has a purifying, detoxifying effect on them.

Significantly, this breathing technique also encourages the release of endorphins (or 'happy chemicals') and nutrients, and brings about wellbeing and contentment. It also assist in effective blood circulation, resulting in sublimated blood, a strong body and a sound mind.

There is a specific chronological sequence to abide by when practicing this Tantra tattva breathing. Your tantra teacher will instruct you in gradually progressing from one sequence of these dynamic tantra positions to the next.

Tantric yamas and niyamas detoxify and align our body, purging us entirely of toxins. Tantra sadhana sublimates our nervous system by opening and clearing up the chakras, allowing energy to flow more easily. Tantra tattva mudras incorporate the grace and staying power of this breathing practice to promote flexibility.

Tattva breathing is an intense and demanding exercise, but it is worth the effort - this breathing technique assures us deep peace of mind and fulfillment.

As always, ensure that you engage in these tantra techniques only under the guidance of an authentic tantra teacher. Practicing tantra exercises without expert supervision is counter-productive and often harmful.
About the Author:

Acharya Subhojit Dasgupta is a Tantra Teacher with an in-depth knowledge of traditional Indian sciences and Sanskrit literature. Both analytic and holistic understanding are important for psychics.

(If it is unclear, let's try to explain this 'nestedness' through an example. It's a common analogy to liken the human mind to computer software and the human body to computer hardware, but lets take it a step further. Computer programs also have binary code, source code, computer language and standard algorithms - each of these serving as a 'body' for the one before it.)

Many have the misconception that in order to progress spiritually, you have to neglect the physical. This is not a good approach; your physical body is the greatest tool you will have and you should take care of it. The physical body has many finely tuned systems and levels of consciousness integrated into one. If some aspect is out of balance, then it affects other parts of the body and shakes the support which carries everyday human consciousness.

One simple tip for balancing the psychic realm with the bodily physical world is to pay attention to your eating habits. Don't eat anything and any amount; with each bite, ask yourself if this is good for your body, and if not, find out what is. Be aware of what kind of psychic energies enter and exit your body so directly.

Become psychic one step at a time! From HG Wells' Time Machine to Back to the Future, travelling forwards or backwards in time has captivated audiences for centuries. However, thanks to the work of modern thinkers like Einstein, it appears that time travel is much a possibility of science fact as it is fiction.

Time travel is not only possible but we do it all the time. Every second that passes is a second further into the future so we are all travelling forward in time. However we think if time travel we imagine a machine that transports individuals hundreds or thousands of years in to the future or past so is that possible.

Well, thanks to Einstein's theories of general and special relativity, time ravel is certainly possible. We know thanks to the development of atomic clocks that Einstein's theories about speed and gravity affecting the passage of time is correct. Einstein suggested that gravity would warp space-time (the term he gave to four dimensional space that includes directions plus time) and this has been tested. In fact modern atomic clocks can pick out the minute differences in the passage of time every subsequent inch above the earth's surface as time speeds up as the effect of the earth' s gravity weakens.

Einstein predicted speed too would affect time in what he described as time dilation. For any observer travelling close to the speed of light a journey that to an outsider may have taken thousands of years would have passed within seconds. Time dilation means that travelling hundreds of years into the future in a matter of seconds is certainly possible. However, would it be possible to get back again?

This is where many scientists are divided. Strictly speaking theoretical properties of space time do allow for this, although for any travelling back in time a worm hole would have to be created or found. A worm hole is a theoretical link between two parts of space where a traveller could enter one end and appear somewhere completely different at the other end this may be another part of the universe or indeed another point in time.

However, critics of the possibility of time travel point out that because travellers from the future have never visited us that probably means that time travel will never be possible. They also point out the any travelling backwards in time could create paradoxes (what would happen to you if you were mean enough to go back in time and kill your grandparents).

However, time paradoxes exist now. Many computer networks are not synchronised which can lead to errors, loss of data or paradoxes like emails being sent before they were received. To avoid any time crisis it is important for all computer networks to be perfectly synchronised. The best and most accurate method of doing this is to use a NTP time server that receives the time from an atomic clock.

Richard N Williams is a technical author and specialist in atomic clocks, telecommunications, NTP and network time synchronisation helping to develop dedicated NTP clocks. To be in love feels good. Having close relationships and intimate ties to other human beings is not only good for our mental and emotional health; it is also good for our physical health as well.

This is a fact which nobody can deny; there is too much evidence which proves the point. There have been many different types of studies conducted, in communities all over the world which indicate the healing powers of love and friendship.
One study which is often cited relates to the town of Roseto in Pennsylvania, which was up until relatively recently inhabited by immigrants from a small town in Southern Italy. This community of Italian-Americans in Roseto remained very close in terms of family ties and traditions, maintaining their cultural values and religious beliefs through several generations. The inhabitants of this small town experienced significantly less heart disease than in either of the two similar sized neighboring tons. They also lived significantly longer.
When scientists began researching the Roseto phenomenon they could not find anything significantly different in terms of diet, exercise or work which could account for this community's good health. The only thing which was different was their social cohesion and supportiveness. Researchers began to suspect that it was Roseto's stable structure which could have protected the inhabitants from heart disease and also led to longevity.
These suspicions turned out to be well-founded, as was evidenced by the dramatic increase in heart disease in the 1960's and 1970's as the previously close and cohesive community began to fragment and become more isolated. Many different studies have ensued and each supports the basic belief that when we feel isolated or unsupported, our health is endangered. By contrast, when we are involved either in an intimate and loving relationship, or in a supportive community our health tends to be a whole lot better.
The thing to bear in mind is that it does not matter what type of supportive relationship you are involved in, so long as it provides you with a feeling of being cared for. For some people their religion is what provides them with this feeling, this perception of being part of something bigger and being cared for as an integral part of that community. For some this may take the form of going to church and being an active part of a church group; for others it may be a perception of our spiritual nature which provides a feeling of cohesion and connectedness.
Everyone is different in how they perceive their world and a major key to good health is to feel cohesion and connectedness. Many people may on the face of things live a life with lots of support, family and friends around them, but they might still feel a sense of isolation, and this feeling is one of the strongest predictors of heart disease. It is a matter instinctive importance to the human soul to feel supported as opposed to isolated. Yet it is not what is happening around you that matters so much as how you feel about it. One person may be alone, bur feel spiritually connected, whilst another could be surrounded by many and still feel alone.
I am reminded of a quote by Viktor Frankl which loosely runs along the lines of "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; his ability to choose his thoughts in any set of circumstances". This quote is very empowering. This gentleman very elegantly describes how we do in fact choose our thoughts and it follows that we can change our thoughts should we wish to do so. If for any reason you are feeling isolated or alone, you can change this feeling. It may take a little effort on your part, but never the less, you can change how you feel, and you will find that hypnosis mp3 downloads are very helpful in your desire to feel a greater sense of well-being.
This is a huge topic and I am only scratching the surface here. The risk factors predicted by a sense of isolation do not just relate to heart disease and an earlier death. It's only natural to want to contact them and continue communication.

We believe loved ones who cross over do check in with those they left behind from time to time, and they are often there for you when you need them, even if you can't sense their presence.

The trouble is, however, that most of us are not conditioned at an early age to be open to communication from those who have crossed over, and to identify it. Even though many may be beamed messages from the other side frequently, most people don't acknowledge the signs.

In our experience, only those who are open-minded and, or spiritually sensitive can perceive this type of communication. Regular meditation can help those who are less sensitive, who are open to the possibility, to receive some insight.

If you want to receive communication from your loved ones who have crossed over, start by meditating daily. Getting into the practice of being centered and in touch with your higher-self will allow you to eventually be more aware of the spirit world. If you are disciplined enough to meditate regularly, you'll also find you'll be reaping the many benefits of this practice, such as being more relaxed and intuitive.

We believe that many of the rewards found through spiritual disciplines such as meditation demand at least some sacrifice, such as reducing your TV time. But the sacrifice seems like nothing once you begin to gain the benefits of your discipline.

Spend some quiet time alone with no distractions. Visualize yourself surrounded with a bright, white Light, or pretend the sun is shining brightly down upon you. Breath deeply, focus your attention on your heart or third eye area, and if you have trouble emptying your mind of thoughts, try imagining transferring all those preoccupations into an imaginary basket sitting next to you. Just say, "OK, I'll get back to all of this after I meditate." Then count from 1-100 until you begin to feel more relaxed. Perceive the numbers in your mind, or better yet, imagine them appearing on your chest plate or third eye area as you maintain your focus on that spot.

The more intently you focus, the easier you will get into a meditative state. You'll get better with practice and eventually be able to gain insight about your questions.

You also may be able to communicate in your dreams with loved ones who have crossed over. Before bed, relax and think about the good times you and your loved one shared. Be grateful. Talk with him or her and share your questions or anything else that's on your mind. Then ask for help in becoming aware of their presence in your dreams and recalling those dreams. Also ask for help from God or whomever you pray to and in time you may be able to be more perceptive of spirit communication. It's also a good idea to immerse yourself in protective white Light, a cocoon of soothing, healing energy, before falling asleep to help you sleep better.

Is there a ghost in my home, you ask?

It's much easier for us to offer a professional opinion on such matters by being physically in the location, but based on what someone tells us, sometimes it can be pretty obvious that a lost soul is hanging out in their home or workplace.

Sometimes it's the result of someone dying in the home or area years ago and never going to "the Light." Other times the resident unknowingly allows a lost soul into their home.

Fortunately, this problem is relatively easy to fix. One option is to send the spirit to the Light. Check out the book The Unquiet Dead by Edith Fiore. Aside from being an easy read that describes how and why lost souls can interfere with your life, there's also an effective script in the back of the book you can read aloud which will help send lost souls on their way.

What is my spirit guide's name and how can I communicate with them, you ask?

By design, you lack a continuous, direct line to your spirit guides, one that would always allow you to get the right answer instantaneously. Why, you ask? Because it would be too easy to skip the challenges in life, which amount to your earthly lessons.

But we believe many of you, especially if you have an active interest in metaphysics, are predetermined to be able to receive at least some other-dimensional guidance (such as through meditation), thereby gaining enough insight to help make wiser choices in life and shortening the learning curve a little bit.

Rather than attempting to link to a spirit guide, who might not be entirely helpful or even of the Light, go within to tap into your Higher-self, or God. We believe you can receive all the help you need (within reason) if you discipline yourself to tune into this stream of truth, the language of spirit. Don't expect reams of information, like you're listening to a speech, but do expect subtle hints, phrases, images, scents, symbols, and emotional impressions. If you pay attention and get into a meditative state of mind, with regular practice you'll perceive what you need, when you need it.

Copyright © 2009 Scott Petullo, Stephen Petullo

Scott Petullo and Stephen Petullo are identical twins and have been exploring metaphysics since the early 1980s. The Greek term is attested on magical papyri (PMag. Leid. W.6.17: ἡ ἄγαν θεοσοφία).

The term also appears in Neoplatonism. Porphyry De Abstinentia (4.9) mentions "Greek and Chaldean theosophy", Ἑλληνική, Χαλδαϊκὴ θεοσοφία. The adjective θεόσοφος "wise in divine things" is applied by Iamblichus (De mysteriis 7.1) to the Γυμνοσοφισταί, i.e. the Indian yogis or sadhus.

The 6th century neo-platonist influenced Pseudo-Dionysius uses the term in Theologia Mystica (1.1)

The word was revived early in the 17th century, as Latin theosophia, to denote the Renaissance occultism found in Cornelius Agrippa, Paracelsus, Robert Fludd and others.

The name theosophy was applied specifically to Jacob Böhme, who showed at least stylistic influence by the Renaissance "theosophists": Böhme's writing shows the influence of neoplatonist and alchemical writers such as Paracelsus, while remaining firmly within a Christian tradition. Behmenism was also an important source of German Romantic philosophy, influencing Schelling in particular, as well as Enlightenment theologian Emanuel Swedenborg.

In Richard Bucke's 1901 treatise Cosmic Consciousness, special attention was given to the profundity of Böhme's spiritual enlightenment, which seemed to reveal to Böhme an ultimate nondifference, or nonduality, between human beings and God.

Finally, the word was revived in the nineteenth century by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky to designate her religious philosophy which holds that all religions are attempts by humanity to approach the absolute, and that each religion therefore has a portion of the truth. Together with Henry Steel Olcott, William Quan Judge, and others, Blavatsky founded the Theosophical Society in 1875.

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theosophy_(history_of_philosophy)"

Most people who have used weight loss hypnosis will be aware that the most usual type of suggestion centers around the changing of habits - eating more slowly, only eating when seated at a meal table, etc - with additional suggestions aimed at altering taste preferences and motivation to exercise. This, broadly speaking, is what we are used to in terms of successful weight loss hypnosis.

This article referred to something quite different, although clearly equally effective. The subject was given suggestions not to feel less hungry or to change habits, but instead to believe that they had undergone surgery; to believe that their stomach size had been reduced with the insertion of what is called the "gastric band", so that effectively their stomach size had been reduced and that they could now only eat small meals. They could simply not eat too much - it is impossible after this type of intervention.

Although the type of suggestion is very different, the result is the same. The subject ate less at meal times and lost weight very effectively. I was not at all surprised at the effectiveness of this suggestion, and was pleased to see that the hypnotherapist in question had adapted the suggestion to suit the clients mind set and had not simply made a "standard" set of suggestions. It is important in everything in life to "think outside the box".

Everyone after all comes to therapy with their own unique beliefs and expectations. There is a definite trend towards abrogating responsibility for ones weight gain and desired weight loss. As a community there is a tendency to make justification for weight gain and then to look for an easy answer when one feels "fat". Far more people turn to surgery these days than ever before. And the medical profession answers this "need" by creating ever more diverse types of surgical interventions.

One who is overweight tends to first try dieting. These diets are too numerous to cite here, and most people try a good number of them, and sometimes make several attempts at each one. The next step tends to be pills. Again, there are dozens of different weight loss pills, and most people try one or two brands, possibly more, before giving up once again. Then there are the meal replacement systems. And then there are the companies which will provide individually calorie counted meals for you. And then there is surgery, including the gastric band.

It seems to me that the majority of people are disillusioned with "dieting" and just go looking for an easier option. Not only do we look for an easy option, we want to see results today, we want to be slim and healthy RIGHT NOW! We haven't got time to diet, and we've come to believe that diets don't work, or that they are too difficult. It's easier to go for surgery and have a gastric band operation and then we just cannot eat too much - it's impossible. And we don't have to do anything at all ourselves about our weight. The surgeon is going to do it for us. We have, as I said before, abrogated responsibility, for our dietary choices and resulting weight gain.

Reverting to the recent novel application of hypnotherapy for successful weight loss, the therapist managed to work within the mind set of their client. This client did not want to have to "work" at dieting; they just wanted to know that they could not eat very much at any meal. The therapist found a way to do this which the client could relate to, could visualize and imagine. This is the key not only to successful hypnotic suggestion, but also to success at anything in life. The ability to visualize and imagine the end result that you want to achieve is vital to achievement and accomplishment.

Hypnosis is what makes that visualization more effective and allows change to happen more quickly than it would without hypnosis. This is because hypnosis allows access to your subconscious mind, the part which controls instinctive behaviors, beliefs and expectations. When in hypnosis your creative mind is more readily available and your power to visualize is enhanced. The moon is the fastest moving celestial body, moving through the zodiac every 28 days and spending approximately 2 1/2 days in each sign.

As the sun rules your conscience day, the moon rules your night. It rules all that is hidden and shadowy within us. The moon represents our needs, emotions (moods) and habits. People with a strong moon characteristics often have planets in Cancer, show much sensitivity and are often naturally inclined to nurture and protect those around them.

The moon is a powerful symbol of feminine energy and represents the woman in a man's horoscope, the type of woman he would be attracted to and his partner. Universally it represents fertility, motherhood, womanhood and babies. The moon is most comfortable in its own sign of Cancer and the other water signs. The moons 28 day cycle also coincides with the woman's menstrual cycle. Its waxing and waning symbolizes conception, pregnancy, birth and corresponds to the growth cycle of every living thing.

The moons energy governs our emotions and how we feel about things. As the moon rules the tides, it is fitting that it rules all things that are fluid. The moon represents the things we want, how we feel about those things and in turn how they affect us emotionally. Whether our feelings are up or down, the moon shows us how we affect others emotionally as well. Our emotions set the tone for our daily lives and the moons influence tells us how we are affected by our past memories and how we process those memories.

The moon rules the stomach and our gut reactions. It also rules the breast, the left eye in a man and the right eye in a woman.

It has been instrumental in moving humanity from the dark ages of religion to a more enlightened awareness of mankind to its creator. But "New Age," as religion and dinosaurs must make way for the mammals and new growth. Change is timely and has manifested itself in a time of change and chaos. People by nature do not like change and it is upsetting for many. Chaos is the mark of change.

Today companies are struggling to survive and some are disappearing. Jobs are being lost as companies restructure and lay off their employees. Change is occurring everywhere and none are immune from it. But, change is an opportunity for growth. As the dinosaurs (old established corporations) are replaced by young, hungry companies and workers; the changes will be viewed as beneficial by future generations. The change that is occurring now is not about companies, countries or people. It is about relationships; relationships are changing.

All things in the physical world are about relationships between one thing or another-people, places and things. There is nothing that is impervious to change-it is the one and only constant in the universe. A major change will occur in this century and within the next few years. For those who are more sensitive to these changes; you are already feeling them at home, and in personal relationships outside the home and at work. I have been feeling restless for several years knowing that something is happening, but not being able to put my finger on it.

Everything is as an echo in a pail. You write, you talk, you teach and it keeps coming back to you. It's no longer going anywhere, and I have to look at it for what it is; it's a step that is completed and my right foot is already in motion, ready to move forward. The awareness that "New Age" has brought forward was that "we are all one", that we are the creator of all that we experience. There is no "God Like" creator sitting in a place called Heaven; Angry, Vengeful, Punishing or even Benevolent. There is no chosen few and all are equal and connected.

Although "New Age" may be the stepping stone that takes us to the next realm of existence, it is still extremely limited in its scope or understanding of where the next step will take us or what it actually is. Language is the greatest hindrance to understanding when we try to teach or pass on our awareness. "New Age" still uses religious terms to identify with the listener and move him to a new awareness.

However, the words that we use tell others where we are, and they limit us. In an effort not to alienate ourselves, we use language to bridge the gap. But the language can never fully explain what the change will actually be. The change can best be experienced as a feeling where no words are spoken. You cannot explain the taste of chocolate; it must be experienced. As "New Age' writers, we can only image what the next experience will be. In my experience, our current vision of an afterlife or passing, only goes as far as the next emanation. We are far greater than what "Religion" or "New Age" has taught us and we are not limited in any way.

The next great step in evolution will not be as humble as we have experienced over our sojourn on this planet. There are infinite realms of existence, but only one consciousness. Although we may choose to remain in the next realm just for the experience; we will consciously become aware of our choice and our alternatives to other existences. But the real purpose of what we will experience will not actually be appreciated until we discover our true nature; no matter how many realms we experience. No matter how many times we live and die. As long as we keep passing responsibility for our existence on to someone or something else, we will never know our true nature. We will never know ourselves as "life" as the only thing that really exists; but as an effect or consequence of it.

"New Age" may correctly assume the essence of our true nature, but in itself it does not own up and say exactly what it is. It has not yet reached a comfortable place in time where it can give its final declaration-that it is properly "this" or "that." Very much like religion, it does not take you to your final resting place-it is just another step on an endless path of awareness. However, the two are not mutually exclusive, and as beings of consciousness we can be aware of our true nature and choose not to experience it, as we have done for time immortal.

We can experience the one, experiencing all other things and nothing at the same time. Within that awareness is the experience of being eternal and perpetual. To experience the unlimited experience of being, we must include in our awareness the one that is really experiencing; the observer as well as the observed. Without the full knowledge or experience of both at the very least, it is an unfulfilled experience. To be aware of being asleep you must experience both being awake and asleep at the same time. At that time you will know the true experience of your conscious thought.

To be alive and to have the convenience of forgetting what we were before or what are true nature is, is not the full experience of self realization or recreation. The full nature is to know both simultaneously. Only at that time can we appreciate our true nature. The relational changes that we are currently feeling will eventually manifest into an awareness of true consciousness. It's not the end of anything, but the beginning of an awareness of consciousness, experiencing. Because time does not really exist: all things shall remain in the collective consciousness as experienced or being experienced. Our awareness of ourselves is a product of the process of the manifestation of consciousness that we incorrectly assume is outside ourselves. We are neither the beginning nor the end. We are the process itself-we are consciousness in motion. We are consciousness watching ourselves in a mirror watching ourselves in a mirror.

Every thought we have manifested into action is reflected back to us. We are the observer and the observed existing in the same time and space-there is nothing else. Our true nature does not evolve; it is static. It is within the awareness of knowing itself, that it experiences evolution. It is very much like a baby that discovers its fingers, toes and other body parts. It understands itself as complete in its own experience. It forgets its true identity as spirit or consciousness in body form, and assumes a temporary physical experience with purpose. But once again, this is not a complete experience. The complete experience would be within an awareness of all things imagined.

An economic downturn can be the psychological two-by-four that makes you pause and take stock. We need to find actions we can personally take to deal with this frightening economy. One of the best is using it to reflect on what you really need in your life and what you don't.

When times are good, the focus of any given moment is on what's happening or needs to be happening, on what we have planned. But when things start to slow down--or stop--because of economic concerns, the first thing to look at is whether you really needed to be doing it in the first place.

Some of us are learning what it's like to not be working because of this downturn. What do you miss? The paycheck? That seems like a no-brainer, but maybe not. There are two ways to deal with a sharp reduction in income. Find a way to replace it or find a way to live on significantly less. Each has its benefits. Only you know which is the more authentic strategy for you.

How about plans we made for fun, either as vacation or as a retirement lifestyle? How authentic were those plans in the first place? More critically, have you grown beyond them in what you've learned about yourself since you made them? Are you assuming you HAVE to follow through on them because you've told other people? How important is that in the grand scheme of your life?

The tool that's absolutely essential to doing a good job of this is understanding what you value. When a downturn--or something more life-threatening like a heart attack--gives you the chance to reconsider the direction of your life, your values are the bedrock on which you can confidently rebuild.

So what do you believe? WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU?

This isn't about owning a specific model of car or even about getting a certain candidate elected. Go beyond the immediate in how you look at this. Also go beyond what's fashionable. Right now, fashionable means "going green." A laudable value and worth including, but not the sum total of what makes you a unique human.

The consequences of living from your values are highly beneficial. Knowing what's important for you makes it easier to find work that suits you. (Work is not always for pay. We may be talking about a volunteer effort or creative endeavor with this.) Knowing your values helps you avoid being directed by the mass media. (Just because cute little dogs are currently the rage doesn't mean you need one.) Knowing your values is the first step to acting on them. And acting on them is what makes life meaningful.

In retirement, knowing your values is critical. Values provide direction you need to thrive. When you leave work, the only direction that's defined is "out." Once you're past the door, it's up to you to figure out what to do with your time, your energy, and your money.

Perhaps you'll want to sit around for a while or take some time to clean the garage and redecorate the living room. You can do that. In fact they have a name for it now--"transitional sabbatical." But eventually, you will need something to do that makes each day valuable. Something that makes you feel connected and relevant. Something that honors your values.

What IS important to you? How do you even start to figure that out? Ask yourself these questions and be patient with the silence that comes at first. Sit without an answer for a few minutes--or days or weeks. When the answers start to come, respect them rather than editing them so others might be more impressed. These are YOURS. Claim them.

- What would you attend to if you had just one week to live?

- Who would you talk to if you could make just one phone call before life ended?

- What are you doing now because someone else thought it was important? What would happen if you stopped doing it? Is having that not happen important to you?

- If you had to continue in the direction you take next for the rest of your life, what direction would you choose?

- What one word do you want to describe your life?

It's important to know what's important. It's also hard to do when life is moving forward at full speed. Use the slow down to be sure you have the right stuff at the middle of your life. It's the best benefit of all in living through a sluggish economy.

About the Author:

Mary Lloyd is the author of Supercharged Retirement: Ditch the Rocking Chair, Trash the Remote, and Do What You Love. You have to take note of the following: (1) the causes of hemorrhoids and (2) the symptoms that accompany it. This is to assure that you could deal with it properly. Once you get a deeper understanding of the condition, you would definitely learn to live without it.
Hemorrhoids are painfully felt in the rectum as these are tender swellings in the anal margin. These consist of distended veins that are usually accompanied by blood clotting known as thromboses. It is believed that hemorrhoids coincide with constant constipation. With this perception, pregnant women are prone to having the disease because during their first months of conception, one of the conditions they have is constipation.
Getting rid of hemorrhoids seems quite complicated. However, once you get to know its causes and symptoms at its earliest stage, it can be treated. There is a saying that “prevention is better than a pound of cure”, which means that if we are aware of what we do and what is happening within our system, we surely can treat ourselves and choose to stay healthy.
The causes of hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids prevalently occur in most if not every one of us. The differences lie in the approaches of getting rid of it. Some might feel too much pain but ignore it and say, "Well, it’s just a state of the mind". Others might put too much effort on their condition and pessimistically say "It’s too painful, I can’t bear it". To help you out with getting rid of it, let us take a look at its causes:
• Constipation. This is known as the straining of bowel movement. Once you stay long on the toilet seat, the tendency is your rectum may be forced to open and drag the hemorrhoidal cushions downward. • Inadequate intake of fiber. Fiber intake is important to get rid of hemorrhoids as it is one of the sources of good bowel movement. Drink plenty of fluids and eat fruits rich in fiber like pineapple to ensure that you would not have a problem with hard stool.
• Tumors in the pelvis. These cause enlargement of hemorrhoids by pressing on veins from the anal margin. The pressure on the anal sphincter - the muscle that allows us to control bowel movements – seriously increases the hemorrhoid size.
• Age or aggravating condition. Once we age, the supporting tissue of the anal canal deteriorates. This in return, makes the hemorrhoidal tissue loosen up and affect the rectum.
Knowing the symptoms
There are two types of hemorrhoids known as the internal and external hemorrhoids. The symptoms depend upon the type of hemorrhoid developed in the rectum:
• Internal hemorrhoids. The internal hemorrhoid is affected by the trauma of the hard passing stool in the anal canal. While frequently associated with alternative medicine, it is also increasingly used in mainstream medical practice as part of a broad view of patient care.

History
Holism as a health concept has long existed outside of academic circles, but only relatively recently has the modern medical establishment begun to integrate it into the mainstream health care system. In the United States, the first National Conference on Holistic Health was conducted by the Health Optimizing Institute and The Mandala Society with the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in June 1975. This continued there for ten years with about three thousand health professionals participating each year. After the second year it was not under the Medical School.

The recording of these Conferences that was the emerging of Holistic Health in American is in the nine volumes of The Journal Of Holistic Health provided by the Mandala Society. Over 150 authorities in aspects of Holistic Health participated and are recorded in the Journals.
The Mandala Society Conferences and work supported the creation of the Association For Holistic Health in 1976, the Holistic Medical Association in 1978 and The American Holistic Nurses Association,1979.

Many regional Holistic Health Associations followed with the American Holistic Health Association being established in 1989.
Historically, Holistic health has not been widely practiced in North America. According to Robbie Davis-Floyd in “Medical Anthropology- Modern Midwives, Issue 20”, she states that there are “links between tradition, ancestry, home remedies, the earth and the biomedical systems”.

Philosophy
Holistic health is not itself a method of treatment, but is an approach to how treatment should be applied. Holistic concepts of health and fitness view achieving and maintaining good health as requiring more than just taking care of the various singular components that make up the physical body, additionally incorporating aspects such as emotional and spiritual well-being. The goal is a wellness that encompasses the entire person, rather than just the lack of physical pain or disease. This means that not feeling sick, does not necessary mean you are well, just that you are between Well and Sick. When symptoms develop, it is often long after the cause of the symptoms occurred. It is often used in contrast to the medical model that focuses on treating symptoms and syndromes without attempting to address functioning beyond the absence of disease, the Holistic approach focuses on the cause.

The holistic process offers individuals the opportunity to be the creators of their own reality of health, through an understanding of all levels of health and a balanced lifestyle.

Treatment of patients
Holistic Health is now moving more into the medical mainstream as seen in the work of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Veterans Medical Centers provide a comprehensive patient manual Healthwise for life, VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network, Fourth Edition 2000
This comprehensive 450-page VA Medical Self Care manual has a section On Mind-Body Wellness and a section on Complementary Medicine, including sections on: Acupuncture, High-Dose Vitamin and Mineral Therapy, Homeopathy, Magnetic Field Therapy, Herbal Medicine, Naturopathy, Tai Chi, Qui Gong, Yoga and Chiropractic Treatment.
In the Complementary Medicine section under the heading Benefits the manual states: “Holistic Approach: When you see your conventional provider, your visit generally lasts 10 to 15 minutes. People who provide alternative treatments often take one hour or more to find out all about you. Many health problems, especially chronic diseases, are more likely to respond to treatment when the whole person is taken into consideration.”

This section also gives advice about how to avoid health fraud and quackery.
Under the heading “Healing”: The VA manual mentions Spiritual Healing and Therapeutic Touch stating: “Nurses may use therapeutic touch in conventional medical settings to help heal and comfort their patients.”

The American Holistic Nurses Association is playing a significant role in moving Holistic Health into the mainstream for responsible health care.
Holistic Health Care is simply about responsible health care. Responsible health care is working fully with the whole persons Spirit, Mind and Body.
“Dimensions of Holistic healing- New frontiers in the treatment of the whole person”, the authors define Holistic health as “treating the whole person, helping the person to bring the mental, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual dimensions of his or her being into greater harmony, using the basic principles and elements of holistic healing and, as much as possible, placing reliance on treatment modalities that foster the self regenerative and self reparatory processes of natural healing,” (Otto and Knight, 1979 p. 3).

External links
American Holistic Health Association
Journal Of Holistic Health
American Holistic Nurses Association
American Holistic Medical Association
Holistic Health Library

Due to the change from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, Bealltainn in Scotland was commonly celebrated on May 15 while in Ireland Sean Bhealtain / "Old May" began about the night of May 11. The lighting of bonfires on Oidhche Bhealtaine ('the eve of Bealtaine') on mountains and hills of ritual and political significance was one of the main activities of the festival.[1][2] In modern Scottish Gaelic, Latha Buidhe Bealtuinn ('the yellow day of Bealltain') is used to describe the first day of May. This term Lá Buidhe Bealtaine is also used in Irish and is translated as 'Bright May Day'. In Ireland it is referred to in a common folk tale as Luan Lae Bealtaine; the first day of the week (Monday/Luan) is added to emphasise the first day of summer.
In ancient Ireland the main Bealtaine fire was held on the central hill of Uisneach 'the navel of Ireland', one of the ritual centres of the country, which is located in what is now County Westmeath. In Ireland the lighting of bonfires on Oidhche Bhealtaine seems only to have survived to the present day in County Limerick, especially in Limerick itself, as their yearly bonfire night and in County Wicklow in Arklow, though some cultural groups have expressed an interest in reviving the custom at Uisneach and perhaps at the Hill of Tara.[3] The lighting of a community Bealtaine fire from which individual hearth fires are then relit is also observed in modern times in some parts of the Celtic diaspora and by some Neopagan groups, though in the majority of these cases this practice is a cultural revival rather than an unbroken survival of the ancient tradition.[4][5][1][6]
Another common aspect of the festival which survived up until the early 20th century in Ireland was the hanging of May Boughs on the doors and windows of houses and the erection of May Bushes in farmyards, which usually consisted either of a branch of rowan/caorthann (mountain ash) or more commonly whitethorn/sceach geal (hawthorn) which is in bloom at the time and is commonly called the 'May Bush' or just 'May' in Hiberno-English. Furze/aiteann was also used for the May Boughs, May Bushes and as fuel for the bonfire. The practice of decorating the May Bush or Dos Bhealtaine with flowers, ribbons, garlands and colored egg shells has survived to some extent among the diaspora as well, most notably in Newfoundland, and in some Easter traditions observed on the East Coast of the United States.[1]
Bealtaine is a cross-quarter day, marking the midpoint in the Sun's progress between the spring equinox and summer solstice. Since the Celtic year was based on both lunar and solar cycles, it is possible that the holiday was celebrated on the full moon nearest the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. The astronomical date for this midpoint is closer to May 5 or May 7, but this can vary from year to year.[7]
Placenames in Ireland which contain remnants of the word 'Bealtaine' include a number of places called 'Beltany' - indicating places where Bealtaine festivities were once held. There are two 'Beltany's in County Donegal, one near Raphoe and the other in the parish of Tulloghobegly. Two others are located in County Tyrone, one near Clogher and the other in the parish of Cappagh. In the parish of Kilmore, County Armagh, there is a place called Tamnaghvelton/Tamhnach Bhealtaine ('field of the Bealtaine festivities'). Lisbalting/Lios Bealtaine ('fort or enclosure of Bealtaine') is located in Kilcash Parish, County Tipperary. Glasheennabaultina ('the Bealtaine stream') is the name of a stream joining the River Galey near Athea, County Limerick.

Beltane (pronounced /ˈbɛltən/) is the anglicized spelling of Bealtaine (Irish pronunciation: [ˈbʲal̪ˠt̪ˠənʲə]) or Bealltainn ([ˈbʲal̪ˠt̪ˠən]), the Gaelic names for either the month of May or the festival that takes place on the first day of May.
In Irish Gaelic the month of May is known as Mí Bealtaine or Bealtaine and the festival as Lá Bealtaine ('day of Bealtaine' or, 'May Day'). In Scottish Gaelic the month is known as either (An) Cèitean or a' Mhàigh, and the festival is known as Latha Bealltainn or simply Bealltainn. The feast was also known as Céad Shamhain or Cétshamhainin from which the word Céitean derives.
As an ancient Gaelic festival, Bealtaine was celebrated in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man. There were similar festivals held at the same time in the other Celtic countries of Wales, Brittany and Cornwall. Bealtaine and Samhain were the leading terminal dates of the civil year in Ireland though the latter festival was the most important. The festival survives in folkloric practices in the Celtic Nations and the Irish diaspora, and has experienced a degree of revival in recent decades.

To read more go here:

It has always existed and as far as we are aware it will always exist as long as the universe does! So how come it doesn't seem to exist for you?

Many people have watched the film 'The Secret' and after feeling motivated and positive have diligently followed the advice given by the teachers in the documentary. However, very few get the results they were aiming for. Why is this? Ok, so if the law of attraction really does exist and is working every minute of everyday why can't you get it to work for you? Are you in some way different? Do you think the rules of the universe do not apply to you? Of course not! It does, however, feel that way most of the time.

The problem with your inability to get any real tangible results from using techniques designed to utilize the law of attraction is not with the law itself but rather your understanding of it!

The problem really lies with documentaries like 'The Secret' because they do not give you the full story. In fact they withhold the greatest secret of all!

The reason why you do not get the results you want from the law of attraction is due almost entirely to your unconscious thoughts. The truth is there are a multitude, (thousands if not millions), of unconscious programs running around in your head like rogue computer programs in a computer system. Your subconscious programs are your beliefs. If these programs are in direct conflict with your conscious desires then these desires can never manifest in your life.

Even if you are lucky enough to use the law of attraction to bring a few of your desires to you, your subconscious programs will quickly ensure they are taken away again! Sound familiar?

We have all had the experience of getting unexpected money just to have it sucked up on bills or other expenses so that we never really get to enjoy it! This is a perfect example of subconscious programming sabotaging our lives.

These negative subconscious beliefs run in the background noise of our minds and are often so subtle that we are not even aware they exist. These subconscious programs are like viruses that infect a computer. Just like a computer your mind is being hindered by these viruses - your negative beliefs. Negative subconscious beliefs literally mess with the operating system of your mind!

It takes diligence to find these negative beliefs. However, once you identify them it is relatively easy to remove them. Once you are aware that you have a negative belief often this is enough to eliminate it as you see the futility and errorneous nature of it!

If you can find and remove your own unconscious beliefs i.e. those negative beliefs and feelings that are in conflict with your desires, then you would find the things that you want in life would just drop into your lap! The law of attraction would work effortlessly for you because all you have to do is think about what you want without any negative thoughts creeping in and you would immediately begin to attract it to you!

If you take the time to observe your everyday thinking, you will soon identify your negative subconscious programs and begin removing them. Then through the natural course of the law of attraction all those things you now desire will begin to come your way.

About the Author:

To learn more about the Law of Attration and the best law of attraction courses and techniques visit Law of Attraction and find out what really works! Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see. Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!" - Dr. Seuss

In these hectic, often stressful days, many people measure themselves on their ability, or inability, to solve problems or "put out fires" in their daily life. A successful day is a day when problems are solved. However, the same kinds of problems keep coming up. Perhaps not every day but often enough to notice a pattern if one only stops for a minute to examine the series of problems that they keep solving over and over and over again.

Is it better to solve a problem or resolve a problem? There is a distinction.

The dictionary defines the word solve as to find the solution to a problem or question or understand the meaning of a problem or question. The word resolve means decide, bring to an end; settle conclusively. It's an important distinction.

I was watching the television show Numb3ers one night and one character lamented to the other about how nice it would be if they could stop people from shooting each other. The other character responded that it would be even better if guns and bullets were no longer manufactured. Yes, there are a few holes in that argument but the point is well taken. Often we continue to put band-aids on symptoms, outcomes, rather than clear up the root cause of the problem.

Lousy job? Get a new job, problem solved. Or is it? Many people go from one lousy job to the next. The jobs may be truly lousy or the person isn't pursuing work that excites or inspires his natural calling. Either way, that person is just creating the same, or similar, problem over and over again and applying the same solution each time. To resolve the problem, to stop the pattern of lousy jobs, he would have to get a good job that he enjoys.

We see the same problem patterns in the various relationships some people have. Whether it be with their spouse, family member, friend or romantic relationships, the same problems occur over and over again. Each problem is eventually solved only to have another same or similar type of problem recur later on. The band-aid came off of the root issue and the sore is still festering.

Solving a problem works to a point. It works until the problem shows up again in some form or fashion.

To resolve problems it is essential to mindfully examine the problematic experience to dig down deep to discover the root cause. For personal problems, the best place to start is within. What within me is creating this problem? A bad decision that was based in fear? Making erroneous assumptions? Allowing yourself to be a victim to other people's "shoulds"? Taking the path of least resistance?

Remember, everyone is always doing the best they can. No one gets out of bed in the morning and wonders how they can create problems for themselves that day. As such, is it important to leave judgment out of the equation when examining what role you played in creating the problem. If it is a problem within a company, look within the company. What within the company is creating this problem? An outdated system? Inexperienced employees?

When you discover the root cause of the problem make the corrections. The root cause is then removed, the festering sore is healed, the pattern of similar problems is ended. For good.

Don't just solve your problems; resolve your problems.

"Convert difficulties into opportunities, for difficulties are divine surgeries to make you better." ~Author Unknown

About the Author:

Valery is an Artist Mentor who specializes in empowering people to create more passionately, profoundly, productively and profitably. Of course not! However, that is what many believe and some don't give his ideas credence because they think he is wrong about that. This article is my humble attempt to explain exactly what Dr. Glasser means when he says he believes in mental health, not mental illness. This article should be particularly helpful to those of you who work in the helping professions or those of you with family members who have been diagnosed with any type of mental disorder.

I'm asking you to take a journey with me into the realm of possibility. What if what we believe about mental illness is wrong in much the same way people in Columbus' day believed the world was flat? And if it's possible our conceptualization about mental illness is wrong, then it logically follows that perhaps we need to look at treatment differently.

My goal in this issue is not to change your mind about what you think and believe, but merely to present another possibility. Take a journey with me into an alternative explanation and see where it takes us . . .

Choice theory has two concepts that are central to this discussion. One is the concept of total behavior and the other is our creative system. I'll start with total behavior. Glasser says all behavior is total, meaning it consists of four inseparable components-your actions, your thinking, your feelings and your body's physiology. All of these components occur simultaneously, even when you are more aware of one of them.

You only have direct control over two of these components. No matter how hard you try, you will not be able to change your feelings or your body's physiology without first changing your actions or your thinking. You may not believe you have control over your thinking because sometimes certain thoughts enter our minds unbidden. However, once you learn how, you can direct your thoughts from unwanted topics to healthier ones.

When we want something we don't have, we are driven to create a behavior designed to get us what we want. Sometimes, we rely on behaviors we've used in the past that were effective. Other times we create a new behavior. Whatever our choice, we are choosing the best behavior available to us at the time to get what we want.

When it comes to mental health symptoms, many believe that an imbalance in our body's chemistry causes the unusual behavior or thinking. But what if the "crazy" behavior and thinking over an extended period of time actually causes the chemical imbalance instead? Isn't it at least possible? Isn't it exercising that releases endorphins into our blood? It's not the endorphins that make us exercise. Isn't it thoughts of bodily harm that releases the chemical adrenaline into our blood stream when we are scared? It's not the adrenaline that makes us scared, is it?

And what about those diagnoses that don't have a known chemical imbalance? What about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Dissociative Identity Disorder. These are groups of symptoms that develop during a serious crisis that serve us in that moment. In Choice Theory, Glasser would say they become organized behavior. In neurology, it might be said that neurons that fire together wire together. This means that once we produce a behavior and repeat it over time, it basically becomes the path of least resistance and when confronted with similar circumstances, we will default to our typical way of handling it.

So, if someone has developed a behavior that works for them to get something they want, then they are more likely to choose that behavior in the future. It is difficult to think of mental health symptoms as having any positive benefit to them. Why would someone choose such thoughts and behaviors?

Currently, there is a concept I hear more and more in psychology called secondary gain. Mental health professionals are recognizing that there often is some pay off for mental health clients in their symptomotology. It might get the client attention. It may abdicate them of daily responsibility. It might get them SSI benefits. They may be able to avoid unpleasant situations and keep undesirables at arm's length. The list goes on and on. Couldn't it at least be possible that these are not actually secondary gains, but rather the reason the symptoms developed in the first place?

Couldn't it be that a person learned that being sad got them attention so they developed the behavior of depression? Couldn't it be that a person learns anxiety gets them out of doing certain undesirable things? Once we experience a benefit, the behavior is more likely to become hard wired and therefore repeated, even long after it stops being effective.

Once of the criticisms of Glasser's theory is that no one would actively choose to be neurotic or psychotic or personality disordered. Glasser never said it was a conscious choice. Most people suffering with mental health disorders are truly suffering, unaware there is any choice in the matter. Our current approach to treatment basically reinforces this image of mental health clients as victims.

I don't know about you, but I want my clients to know there is a choice. They didn't know it before. But if they understand now how symptoms can develop out of satisfying some need the had, then treatment becomes a matter of teaching them more responsible ways of getting those needs met.
About the Author:
<a href=<a target="_blank" href="http://www.Kimolver.com>Kim">http://www.Kimolver.com>Kim Olver is a life and relationship coach.
