This tutorial will guide you how you can share a folder and your data between two systems.

First you need to have GuestAdditions installed on your guest machine.

1. Go to settings in VirtualBox.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 212px; height: 231px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7La4oAP5I/AAAAAAAAAJI/hN15KE4VZXw/s320/Setting.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561606252586352530" />

2. Now select Shared Folders and click on the Add Shared Folder (or press Ins)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 247px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7M964p3FI/AAAAAAAAAJQ/ji7PRDyAHW4/s320/Shared%2BFolders.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561607954000108626" />

3. New window will open.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 306px; height: 226px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7NrJVGO8I/AAAAAAAAAJY/LxCQJ-F2U5s/s320/Add%2Ba%2Bshare.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561608730971618242" />

Select other and select the path for the folder to be shared with the linux guest machine. (let us say we have shared a folder named sharedhost and check the box auto mount in present.

All this has to be done in the host side.

4. Now start the Linux machine.

5. Open terminal, get root access and type:

#mkdir /mnt/sharedguest

sharedguest will be present in the mnt folder.

6. Now type:

#mount -t vboxsf sharedhost /mnt/sharedguest

This line you have to enter every time you login into the system. Else we can add this line to rc.local file so that it initializes on every restart.
For that type:

#gedit /etc/rc.local

now add

#mount -t vboxsf sharedhost /mnt/sharedguest

before

touch /var/lock/subsys/local

it should look like this

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 245px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7RMQ_M1BI/AAAAAAAAAJg/ziJ4_GO3tIQ/s320/rclocal.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561612598497825810" />

now restart the machine and check the mnt > sharedguest.

Installing VBoxGuestAddition in Linux

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7HlsHD0qI/AAAAAAAAAI4/1Cc0V9hpWSE/s200/virtualbox.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561602040158999202" />These days i have been working on Linux and found some difficulties in installing VBoxGuestAdditions on the Linux guest machine. So this tutorial will help out the starters who has installed the linux on their virtual machines.

Few features i have noticed after installing the GuestAdditions are:

- It enables the mouse pointer integeration in the virtual machine, ie, you do not have to click on the screen of the virtual machine to capture the mouse.

- It enables the full-screen mode.

Using the following steps one can easily setup the GuestAdditions

1.open the Linux VirtualMachine (Redhat Linux in my case)

2.Go to devices and select Install Guest Additions.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 113px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7B2hktPNI/AAAAAAAAAIg/tMHe53mjZiM/s200/install%2Bguest%2Bedition.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561595732318567634" />

3. Now you will see a CD like folder on the desktop.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 189px; height: 158px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7CVyAFotI/AAAAAAAAAIo/_XwhgFf9JXA/s200/Image.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561596269304324818" />

4. Now open terminal from Applications > Accessories > Terminal ( Applications > System Tools > Terminal (in some linux ))

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nLuff-WVdl0/TS7DSk94zpI/AAAAAAAAAIw/gdibBmlAuyA/s200/Terminal.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561597313777454738" />

5. Now type

for Ubuntu type : sudo su - or sudo -i
for Fedora and redhat type : su -

6. Enter the root password.

7. Type

cd /media/VBOXADDITIONS_4.0.0_69151/

VBOXADDITIONS_4.0.0_69151 is the name of folder in step 3

8. Type for redhat : sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

it will look like this :

[root@localhost VBOXADDITIONS_4.0.0_69151]# sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

Type for fedora : ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

9. It will now install the GuestAdditions

Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 4.0.0 Guest Additions for Linux.........
VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Your guest system does not seem to have sufficient OpenGL support to enable
accelerated 3D effects (this requires Linux 2.6.27 or later in the guest
system). This Guest Additions feature will be disabled.

Building the main Guest Additions module [ OK ]
Building the shared folder support module [ OK ]
Doing non-kernel setup of the Guest Additions [ OK ]
You should restart your guest to make sure the new modules are actually used

Installing the Window System drivers
Installing X.Org 7.1 modules [ OK ]
Setting up the Window System to use the Guest Additions [ OK ]
You may need to restart the hal service and the Window System (or just restart
the guest system) to enable the Guest Additions.

Installing graphics libraries and desktop services componen[ OK ]
[root@localhost VBOXADDITIONS_4.0.0_69151]#

Exit the terminal and restart the system to see the changes.

Dr. Abdul Kalam's Letter to Every Indian

Dr. Abdul Kalam's Letter to Every Indian

Why is the media here so negative?

Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements?
We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?

We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.

Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.

I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.. Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T.Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India. You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours..

YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don't work, the railways are a joke. The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?

Take a person on his way to Singapore. Give him a name - 'YOURS'. Give him a face - 'YOURS'. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don't throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity. In Singapore you don't say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn't dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai. YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered in Jeddah.
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, 'see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else. 'YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, 'Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so's son. Take your two bucks and get lost.' YOU wouldn't chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand ..
Why don't YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don't YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ?

In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan ..
Will the Indian citizen do that here?' He's right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.
We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.

We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public.

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? 'It's the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons' rights to a dowry.' So who's going to change the system?

What does a system consist of? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.

Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England . When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one's conscience too.. I am echoing J. F. Kennedy's words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians...

'ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY'

Lets do what India needs from us.

Forward this mail to each Indian for a change instead of sending Jokes or junk mails.

Thank you,

Dr.. Abdul Kalam

This message is very old (around 1 yr back). But i can see the media pressure building upon common wealth games. This might make them remember something.

Block Websites without any software

This method uses window's hosts file. HOSTS file to maintain a personal list of web addresses. Any time a request is made for a URL, the HOSTS file will be checked first. If a corresponding address is found you will be directed to that IP without first consulting a DNS Server. The original intent of this file was to define where sites exist; we will use it in this context to define where they don’t exist.

Lets first look at a HOSTS file entry

127.0.0.1 localhost

This is the loopback address for your machine for those cases where an application needs to reference the local machine by IP address- the loopback address will always be valid. This entry should never be changed.

Now lets add an entry to block

127.0.0.1 www.yahoo.com

We are telling our local machine that Yahoo actually exists on the local machine. Any request for www.yahoo.com will be directed to the local machine and therefore effectively blocked. You could also use the IP of another website if you wanted to be creative.

Let’s take a closer look at a URL http://www.yahoo.com

    * http:// defines the transfer protocol in this case Hyper Text Transport Protocol; this is the standard for viewing websites. Another common protocol is ftp:// for file transfer.
* www is the host
* yahoo.com is the domain
* .com is further classified as the TLD (Top Level Domain)

A HOSTS file entry will disregard the transfer protocol so it isn’t needed. However, the host does play an important role. A webmaster may choose to define a host for his/her website. “WWW” has become the universal standard for the default host. It is just as common to define a site with no host as well. This means that as far as DNS goes www.yahoo.com & yahoo.com are two totally different sites, even though they resolve to the same place. Because of this to effectively block the site, you must also block all hosts. This would usually mean:

127.0.0.1 yahoo.com

127.0.0.1 www.yahoo.com

Now if you want to redirect yahoo.com to any other website then in place of 127.0.0.1 you just have to put the ip address of the site to which you want to redirect. For example

209.85.231.104 yahoo.com

209.85.231.104 corresponds to google.com. Now whenever someone tries to go to yahoo.com he will be redirected to google.com.

Now question arises how to get the ip address of the website. Thats simple - Open Command prompt and type ping "your site (google.com for me)" and hit enter and you will get the ip address.

This method is simple and working for IE and Firefox. IE also has a feature called CONTENT ADVISOR.

Lock any folder without any software

Here is the trick from which you can lock any folder in your computer. And it works on all windows (even win7).

NoTe- Its different from invisble as well hidden folder. Because HLSW was made by gamers for gamers, main focus was to develop an ergonomic design.

With its modular structure and the design of sections it gives you all the necessary information on every part of your gameserver with a single click. Just toggle the rcon section and you are able to administrate your server in a comfortable way within seconds.

But HLSW supports even more: Let your friends know where are you playing and show serverdata in messenger programms like ICQ and IRC, so they know where you are playing.

HLSW supports about 40 games overall with all their mods, and every update covers the newest games and changes.

DOWNLOAD it here

Here is the video tutorial on how to operate HLSW

source

IE: Content advisor and password recovery

This step-by-step article describes how to use the Internet Explorer 6.0 Content Advisor to control access to Web sites. You can configure Internet Explorer to control the kinds of content users can view in the browser.

You can control content in two manners. You can use content rating systems, or you can specify Web sites. Administration of content-rating systems is done by independent organizations. Internet Explorer defaults to the ratings from the Internet Content Ratings association.

HOW TO: Use the Internet Explorer 6 Content Advisor to Control Access to Web Sites in Internet Explorer
Browse the Web with Internet Explorer 6 and Content Advisor

And incase you forgot the password you can remove it from the following method:

The following steps will remove any password set in the Internet Explorer Content Advisor and allow you to reset the program to its original state.

1) Click on Start and choose Run.
2) Type in RegEdit and select OK.
3) Now click on the little plus sign to the left of H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4) Continue to drill down, always clicking on the plus sign at the left of the named key, through Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version and Policies.
5) Now click on the Ratings folder.
6) In the right pane of the RegEdit window, you'll see an icon called Key. Please read the article for the details.

1:-Click Start --> Open Notepad -->

2:-Copy the code exactly in the notepad :

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

3:-Now Save it with the name fakevirus.exe in any of your folder/drives.

4:-If this file got deleted immediately...then it means that your antivirus is working properly and updated !!

5:-If this doesnt happens and you see the saved file in that folder do right click the file and select scan with your installed antivirus and if the scan shows the file then it means your antivirus is working properly but not updated with a new version, as best antivirus softwares detect any virus (at the same second when you save the same in your system)without your effort of going to specified folder and scanning the folder.

6:-If it doesnt shows any kind of threats then you need to change your antivirus software immediately with some good one with the new version.

All the windows Shortcuts

Getting used to using your keyboard exclusively and leaving your mouse behind will make you much more efficient at performing any task on any Windows system. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.

Source : news.cnet.com

Create a Nameless File/Folder In XP

This trick will allows you to create files and folders without any name In XP.

Just follow these steps:

Select any file or folder.

Right click on it, press rename or simply press F2.

Press and hold the alt key. In order to do this you will have to enter BIOS software and change the Boot order. Check the manual that came with the PC or motherboard for information about entering the BIOS. From previous experience it usually tells you as the computer is starting up and says something like press (Delete or F9, they are the favourite although it could be anything!!) to enter Set Up. There are many different types of BIOS this is Phoenix.

You want the order to be CD/DVD, Floppy, and Master HDD. Once in Set Up (BIOS) follow the onscreen instructions and change the Boot order.

Once the boot order has been changed don't forget to save and exit.

*You can test to see whether you need to do all that by simply inserting the Windows XP disc and rebooting. If set up begins or you see a message about hitting any key to Boot from CD you are ready to go...cancel the Boot i.e don't press any key..*

Install windows
1. Press any key to boot from CD
Insert the WIndows XP CD-ROM and reboot your computer. You will see a screen telling you to press any key to boot from CD...do.

You will see a message about inspecting your system.

2. Windows Setup
This is the MS-DOS part of Setup. In this first stage you will see a series of blue and grey MS-DOS based screens. In the grey bit at the bottom you will be asked if you need to install any third-party of RAID drivers..(Thats a totally different tutorial!!) So don't press F6!!
Still in the grey bar at the bottom you will be told you can start an Automated System Recovery by pressing F2...don't press that either...

3. Windows XP Professional Setup
Setup begins. In this step you can setup XP, launch the Recovery Console or quit.
Press ENTER to continue Setup and it will examine your hard drives and removable disks. NOTE: This could say Windows XP Home depending on your version!! Duh!!

4. Windows XP Licensing Agreement
You will have to agree to Microsoft's complex licensing agreements. Among other things it tells you that: You don't actually own Windows XP and you can only install it on one PC.
I know no one reads this but you should...it's interesting!!
Press F8 to continue.

5. Installation Partition
This is a clean install so we will install onto the C: Drive. (I don't want to go into dual booting at the moment..that once again is a different tutorial) I would suggest if there are any partitons here you delete them and just setup on the one. It keeps it neater.

6. File System
In your new partition you can change the file system. The one you want is the NTFS system. Its more secure and faster than the older FAT system.
There is debate about whether to choose the quick or normal format options, suffice to say they do the same thing and the normal is very slow where as the quick is very fast!! So for this installation we will choose quick.
So Format the partition using NTFS file system (quick)

7. Format the Partition
Setup will now format the drive. You will be asked if you want to change anything and to verify the partition.
Press F to continue.

A yellow progress bar will indicate the status of the format. When this is complete, Setup will examine your disk and create a list of files to copy.

8. Setup Folder copy and reboot
Setup will now copy system files to the system/boot partition you just created. This will allow the PC to boot from the C: drive and continue Setup in GUI mode!!!.
When the file copy is complete Windows will tell you it is restarting and a red bar will appear, just let it go through the motions.

On restart you will see the Press any key to boot from CD screen, do NOT press any key.

Setup will now boot from your C: drive.
If for any reason you can't stop it from booting from the CD, eject it and reboot your system. Windows will ask for the CD when it is required.

9. GUI Setup begins
You will now be presented with the GUI Setup phase, it's typical XP and a lot smarter than the DOS mode. As you progress through this phase you can read all the promotional material from Microsoft about XP to get into the XP zone while Setup detects your hardware devices!! This can take quite a while....

10. Regional and Language Options
You can now choose to customize the regional and language settings. He also added that they "haven't maxed out the PS3" and are "getting more power" out of Sony's console right now.

Soderlund was impressed with Microsoft's lineup at E3, especially Project Natal. He says he likes the Natal and calls it "cool" and "interesting". Project Natal, Microsoft's idea of "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience" may help spur newer ways of gaming, thus creating that little extra head room for game development on the 360. Soderlund feels that Microsoft's strong presence at E3 will keep competitors on their toes. Their showcase was strong enough to make the 360 Soderlund's "personal favourite console".

"I think Microsoft is on a roll right now. They're doing really well. If I was Sony, I would have a headache, to be honest."

But he hasn't completely written off Sony: "Sony has a lot of good games this year. If you go to their booth, there's a very consistent, high quality product line-up and that will help them."

Microsoft should take this matter seriously considering that they have pledged a ten year lifecycle for the XBOX 360, which is similar to Sony's plan for all of its consoles. Shane Kim, corporate vice-president for strategy and business development at Microsoft's game division, "firmly" believes that the 360 can last well into 2015.d

Source: 1

Intel launches ultra-thin chips

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Intel Corp has launched a lighter, power-saving microprocessor intended for use in ultra-thin laptops, a move by the top chip maker to shore up its lead in mobile computing.

The new processor, dubbed the Pentium SU2700, comes amid investors' fears that cheaper processors such as the Atom, designed for use in ultra-cheap netbooks, are cannibalizing the market share for higher-margin, more expensive chips.

Acer and Asustek have said they will build laptops with the chip, and Microsoft will ensure its software supports it.

Intel expects that by the fourth quarter of 2009, about a fifth of its consumer shipments will be for the new-generation laptops, slimmer and more energy-efficient.

Intel is upbeat on the ultra-thin market and expects "explosive growth in 2009, very similar to the netbook growth," Intel's director of mobile platforms product marketing Uday Marty said on a conference call.

Asutek, which in 2007 pioneered the successful low-cost, no-frills netbook PC in 2007, is expected to unveil five new laptop models based on the technology this year.

Analysts say Intel's CULV platform may offer a cheaper - but virtually as powerful - alternative to the traditional processors it makes for laptops, while enabling laptops to begin to approach the diminutive size of netbooks.

Intel on Monday also released three new Core 2 Duo processors and a new mobile chipset.

source: 1

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 Released

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; While this isn't a browser vulnerability, because the vulnerability is in DirectShow, a browser-based vector is potentially accessible through any browser using media plug-ins that use DirectShow.

Microsoft have provided workarounds for the exploit available under the 971778 security advisory.

source

Microsoft removes key limit for Windows 7 Starter

Microsoft confirmed on Friday that, with Windows 7, it will lift the limitation that the entry-level "Starter Edition" run no more than three applications at a time.

With Windows 7, Microsoft is for the first time allowing the product to be used globally, as opposed to just in emerging markets. In particular, Microsoft is positioning it as its lowest-cost Windows 7 option for Netbooks.

Initially, Microsoft said it would maintain that restriction that users run no more than three programs at a time, however speculation has been growing that it would lift that limitation.

"We believe these changes will make Windows 7 Starter an even more attractive option for customers who want a small notebook PC for very basic tasks, like browsing the Web, checking e-mail, and personal productivity," Microsoft said in a blog posting on Friday.

Although Microsoft is lifting the three-application limit, it notes that there are still a number of other differences between Starter and Home Premium, including the former's lack of support for Windows 7's cool graphics, multiple monitors, Windows Media Center or XP Mode, among other features.

Bypass Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Check

Firstly, you have to terminate the process form running on your computer secondly you have to change the name of the files that are running the process.
