Students discover teacher’s naughty past

2011-03-27T03:27:00.000-07:00

Porn star turned school teacher Tera Myers aka Rikki Andersin has resigned from her position after students discovered videos from her past career in the porn industry.

A science teacher at Parkway North High School in St. Louis, Missouri, Myers had been initially put on suspension by the school board when the news came out. But, the pressure and public disapproval was too much and she opted to resign.

"We're surprised, very surprised. At the same time we feel for her and her family. We do believe she has tried to move on with her life… Unfortunately, even though it happened 15 years ago, [the video] is still there," Paul Tandy, a spokesman for the Parkway School District, told the New York Daily News.

During the 1990’s Myers or as she was known then, Rikki Andersin, made at least one known porno film. However, she had hoped to put all that behind her and pursue a career as a teacher, a job she loved.

In a brief press statement Myers said, “I'm a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who's made a lot of bad decisions in life. Anybody who's been in my classroom could tell you how much I love teaching and how much I love these students and that should be what matters more than anything in my past.”

This is not the first time her past has come to haunt her. In 2006 Myers was working as a science teacher at a school in Kentucky under the name Tericka Dye when her porn activities were brought to the school's attention.

Modern Living In Home Cave

2011-03-27T03:21:00.000-07:00

Modern living meets subterranean splendor in this gorgeous home nestled inside of a 15,000-square foot sandstone cave in Festus, Missouri. Built by Curt and Deborah Sleeper, the underground abode features modern interior spaces that blend with the beautiful unfinished sandstone walls to create an incredible example of energy-efficient architecture. Geothermal heating and smart passive design keeps the interior comfortable while completely eliminating the need for a furnace or air conditioning.

This unique house is located in Missouri, USA and is on sale on Ebay for $300,000. I can’t even imagine how much time and efforts it took to build all this. A three-bedroom home built in a 15,000 sqft cave in Festus, MO, formerly a roller-rink/concert venue that entertained the MC5, Ike and Tina Turner and Ted Nugent. Sounds like a hell of a place to live. It’s got three freshwater springs and there are fourteen waterfalls on the property. Yowza.

Property: 2.8 scenic, partially wooded acres provide excellent privacy and the feel of the country right in the middle of town, just several blocks from shopping, dining, and other conveniences. Geothermal and passive solar keep the home comfortable year-round without a furnace or air conditioning. In spite of the vast size of the home, our energy costs here run about the same as they did in our 800 square-foot starter home. The home naturally stays a little cooler than the average above-ground home, but we found that we acclimated quickly and easily.

Eating soap bars and washing powder

Tempestt Henderson, a 19-year-old girl from Florida, has a rather peculiar addiction – she can’t help eating soap bars and washing powder. There are worst things to be addicted to, but this has to be one of the strangest.

The young girl remembers she loved the smell of washing powder on her mother’s cardigan and on her bed sheets, and so do many other people, but that doesn’t make them want to stuff their face with the toxic substance. But that’s exactly what Tempestt felt when she first dipped her fingers in washing powder and licked it off. ‘I dabbed the powder onto my tongue and it tasted so sweet, and salty…it just felt so right. I was hooked straight away.’ says the young nursing student.

She new that stuff was hazardous to her health, but she loved it so much she couldn’t stay away from it. From the moment she woke up, she would give in to her washing powder craving, ignoring the warning labels. Before she knew it, Tempestt began licking off the soap bubbles of her skin in the shower, and popping tiny chunks of soap in her mouth and suck on them. Eating soap felt much cleaner than just washing with it, and the young girl claims that at one point she would go through five bars of soap in a week.

World’s Largest Solar-powered boat In World

2011-03-19T08:07:00.000-07:00

The world’s largest solar-powered boat – TÛRANOR PlanetSolar – departed from Monaco on September 27 in an attempt to become the first boat to circumnavigate the globe using only solar energy. Aside from getting another world record under the boat’s belt, the aim of the expedition is to demonstrate that, through the use of existing materials and technology, high-performance solar mobility can be realized today.

The multihull vessel is covered in 537 square meters (5,780 sq ft) of solar panels, which power the four electric motors (two in each hull) that have a maximum output of 120 kW and can propel the boat to a speed of 14 knots. Although the vessel is capable of hosting 40 passengers and is destined to be used as a luxury yacht after the circumnavigation attempt, the vessel is crewed by just six people and that is the number that will be making the round the world journey. The 31 m (102 ft) long, 15 m (49 ft) wide vessel was built by Kiel-based boatbuilding firm, Knierim Yachtbau, using light yet durable carbon-sandwich construction. In total, 20.6 tons of carbon fiber, 11.5 tons of foam core and 23 tons of resin and hardener were used to create the craft, whose 537 square meters of solar panels consists of a total of 825 modules, equipped with 38,000 individual photovoltaic cells made by SunPower Corp. The energy they capture is stored in six blocks, each containing 12 lithium-ion batteries. The vessel is driven by two contra-rotating carbon propellers that each have a diameter of almost two meters (6.6 ft), which is twice the usual size for a craft of the TÛRANOR PlanetSolar’s size. As only half the propeller is underwater, a “wheel effect” is created which makes it possible to steer the ship without a rudder. At the time of publication, the TÛRANOR PlanetSolar had crossed the Atlantic Ocean and was just north of Cuba, making its way towards its next planned stopover in Miami. Other planned stops for the PlanetSolar team include Cancun, San Francisco, Sydney, Singapore, Abu Dhabi before finishing in Monaco sometime in 2011.

No Need Of Tooth Paste On Tooth Brush Now

2011-03-19T07:55:00.000-07:00

Japanese scientists are collaborating with an oral health company on a revolutionary toothbrush that uses electricity to make teeth pearly white and does away with the need for toothpaste.

First dreamed up 15 years ago by Dr. Kunio Komiyama, who is now a professor of dentistry at Canada’s University of Saskatchewan, the Soladey-J3X has a solar panel at its base that requires minimal amounts of light to transmit electrons to the head of the toothbrush through a titanium dioxide semiconductor embedded in the body.

Once there, the electrons react with acid that occurs naturally in the mouth, creating a chemical reaction that breaks down plaque and kills bacteria, according to Dr. Komiyama and his colleague, Dr. Gerry Uswak, dean of the university’s College of Dentistry.

Prototypes of the cutting-edge device have been developed by Shiken Inc. — “shi ken” translates as “dental health” in Japanese — and research is underway.

To date, according to the Osaka-based company, tests in cultures of bacteria that cause periodontal disease have shown that the process brought about the “complete destruction of bacterial cells,” as well as breaking down the plaque.

A study on 120 teenagers is presently underway to determine how they rate it in comparison with a regular toothbrush.

The gadget has already received the recognition of the oral care industry, winning first prize at the recent annual FDI World Dental Conference in Dubai, fighting off 170 other entrants.

Patents on the toothbrush have already been taken out in nine countries, including Japan, although the company says the product will not be released onto the market until the early months of next year. Price should be around 40 euros (4300 Japanese yen).

Body Heat Powered Music Player - Skinny Player

2011-03-19T04:15:00.000-07:00

Chih-Wei Wang and Shou-His Fu have designed a unique MP3 player. Called the “Skinny Player”, the music player is attached to the user’s skin in a similar way to a plaster. It is a lot simpler and thinner than the ipod Shuffle incorporating storage, a battery, a play/stop button and speakers into a Band-Aid-like form factor.

Both designers claim that MP3 player will not lose its adhesive power even after being attached and removed hundreds of times and it is easily cleaned using a damp cloth.

Like its inspiration, the Skinny Player adheres to the user’s body. This is not just practical but essential to the device, because it will use the person’s body heat to recharge its batteries.

The Skinny Player MP3 player also does not require batteries but obtains power from body heat created during movement. The flexible player has an on/off button and a flexible speaker so it does not require headphones, and has enough memory to hold an album of music.

No technical information of this MP3 player and how body heat works as a power supply is available to the public yet. The Skinny Player is ideal for sports enthusiasts and is a step towards battery free music.

Five Flowers That Won’t Cause Allergy Symptoms

2011-03-16T23:47:00.000-07:00

Just as the growing season comes into full bloom – so do those pollen allergies. And the sneezing, congestion and watery eyes can make it hard to enjoy the outdoors, let alone work in the garden. But even if you suffer from the seasonal sniffles, you can still grow plenty of beautiful flowers. These spring and summer beauties have very little pollen, they’re easy to cultivate and, best of all, they won’t send you running for the Kleenex.

Dahlias

Dahlias are perennial flowers that grow well in all garden zones. Most nurseries will feature several bedding varieties and a wide range of color choices. Dahlias are, generally, started from tubers and should be planted once the ground warms up in early spring. They thrive in soil rich with organic matter, especially phosphorus and potassium. Their blooming time extends from mid-summer through fall. To protect plants from winter frost, dahlia tubers must be dug up and stored until the following spring.

Geraniums

Geraniums are a wonderful choice for allergy sufferers. They require very little attention, thrive in light shade to full sun and grow well in moist, well-drained garden soil. Their popularity ensures a wide selection of upright and trailing varieties in shades of pink, red, salmon, orange and white. Depending on the species, most geraniums bloom from spring through late fall. To encourage continuous flower formation, spent blooms should be removed regularly. If planted in containers, geraniums do best with very little competition, since they will stop producing flowers if their space becomes too crowded.

Hibiscus

Hibiscus is actually a lovely, flowering shrub that can be cultivated as a container plant or maintained as a garden perennial. The plant has an excellent, long-lasting blooming period that extends from late June to frost. Hibiscus is tall and bushy, grows as high as 15 feet and produces very little allergy-inducing pollen. It thrives in full sun and prefers moist, well-drained soil, enhanced with plenty of organic matter. Colors include shades of purple, pink, lavender, blue, red and white. To control size and encourage flower production, prune hibiscus in winter or early spring, depending on the climate zone.

Iris

There are over 200 species of Iris plants, but the bearded varieties are the most common. They bloom in spring to early summer and require full sun to partial shade. The flowers consist of three ruffled petals standing upward and three that curve downward. Popular colors include blue, violet, purple, yellow and deep red. They prefer a rich, alkaline soil and can be planted from July through October. Rhizomes should be planted one foot apart and the tops should be visible just below the soil surface. Fertilize occasionally, but avoid large doses of nitrogen. Though the plants will not induce allergy symptoms, they do multiply over time and rhizome clumps must be divided to avoid over-crowding.

Snapdragon

This cool weather beauty is easy to grow and an excellent choice for spring allergy sufferers. The plants are considered a half-hardy annual in most climates and grow anywhere from 6 inches to 3 feet, depending on the variety. Colors include red, yellow, pink, purple, orange, white and bronze. Snapdragons flower from spring to early summer and, in warmer climates, they can be replanted in late August for a fall bloom. They prefer full sun and fertile, alkaline soil. Mature plants should be watered overhead to avoid rust and pinched, regularly, to encourage flowering.

In addition to choosing the right flower varieties, health experts advise that most plants release pollen between 5 and 10 am, so allergy sufferers should garden later in the day. They also note that pollen levels are highest on dry, windy days and remain lower when the weather is cloudy and cool.

With this information, any flower lover can go out and make the most of their garden, without a single sniffle!

Grim For Horror Film

2011-03-16T04:12:00.000-07:00

Horror films are unsettling movies that strive to elicit the emotions of fear, disgust, panic, alarm, shock and horror from viewers through the means of macabre and the supernatural, thus frequently overlapping with the fantasy and science fiction genres. Horrors also frequently overlap with the thriller genre. Horror films deal with the viewer’s nightmares, vulnerability, hidden worst fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Although a good deal of it is about the supernatural, any film containing a plot about morbidity, disease/virus, surrealism and involve gruesome images may be termed “horror”; However, if the film lacks numerous scares or horror content, but has any of those elements then it could be categorised as a thriller.
