Various versions of SharePoint provides different capabilities to create solutions on SharePoint and these technologies are continuously evolving. I really liked one cool feature in SharePoint 2013. Now we can see the document previews in Document Library and the search results. Though the Search Results one was earlier available in FAST Search but now this has been integrated nicely within SharePoint itself.

With SP2013 in the document library you don't need to open the entire document. While working for a SharePoint application, there was a requirement to create a custom help for the application. After some digging, I realised that SharePoint has excellent in built capabilities where we can create specific help for any application and host it in SharePoint. This does not need any coding and just require to enable a feature and then few other steps to configure the same.

Service Application can either be deployed using the Configuration Wizard or through using Power Shell. RBS allows to store unstructured data (Documents, PPT etc) in File System while the structured data (metadata, list data) is stored in SQL Content DB thus allowing to effectively manage the large system. I was working on requirements to create a Dashboard kind of functionality for the Application Admins where data from several Lists and Document Libraries needs to come. Since this application involves high transactions so all these lists keep updated frequently. On this dashboard we are showing the data from these various lists using the list view web parts.
