No New Year's Resolutions!!!

Hello dolls,

I'm sure a lot of you will be wondering what the rationale behind the title of my post today is, I'm sorry to disappoint you but it's exactly as it sounds.

NO RESOLUTIONS!!!

And no I'm not crazy. I arrived at that decision based on my experience with new year resolutions over the past couple of years. In my experience, resolutions put you under some sort of pressure and you feel like you have to achieve so much in so little time and most times because its just you placing the pressure on yourself, without a concrete plan to achieve the "resolutions", you can't sustain it beyond the first couple of months and you end up not achieving anything all year long
.

And so i thought to myself does that mean I'm gonna go through the year without achieving anything? and then it occurred to me

YOU DON'T HAVE TO MAKE RESOLUTIONS BEFORE YOU ACHIEVE ANYTHING!

yes you read that right. You just have to have a plan

And for that plan to succeed you have to break it down into goals and also break each goal into steps. Breaking everything down like this makes achieving your "resolutions" relatively easier and you're better motivated to achieve them all

You could also invest in some planners and schedulers that would better help you to achieve all your goals, a very good one I know of and I also use is Power Planner by POPs concepts. Its available in lagos and also ships nation wide

There you have it dolls. I hope I've been able to convince you to spend more time writing your goals and breaking it down rather than writing some resolutions you'd abandon within the first month of the year.

Look Of The Day | Pretty in Pink

Hope you had an awesome weekend? I did and I am excited to start a new week

So I decided to do a look using only shades of pink. Initially I thought it was gonna be too matchy matchy, but it still came out beautifully. I totally love how it turned out. And I definitely love how the photos came out too.{though some are kindly blurry, oh well...}

Here are the products I used to achieve this look:

Product Review | Maybelline Fit Me Matte +Flawless foundation

Holla!!!

How are y'all doing? So I am back again today You're surprised right? you can say I'm on fire and i'ts probably cos at some corner in my brain I'm being prompted to make up for lost time. I'm shocked I got so caught up with life that I literally forgot about the blog, but that's all in the past now.

So today I have a product review.Its the Maybelline Fit Me Matte +Flawless foundation. It was the Rave product a while and I am just getting around to doing my own review for reasons you know already. It was created for oily skin types and its meant to keep your face matte +flawless. Hence the name, you get?

The matte+flawless foundation was developed after the original fit me foundation and according to reviews I read, It wasn't well received. I guess that prompted them to create the matte+flawless version which is meant to work for normal to oily skin. And since I have oily skin I'm going to be talking on how it works for oily skin. I got it in the shade coconut 355 which is the darkest shade.

So according to them

It mattifies and refines pores
Matches skin tone
Natural,seamless finish

I tried out the foundation and I've actually been using it. In fact its been my go to for a while now and these are my thoughts about it

PROS:

It has full and buildable coverage
Its super easy to blend. I apply it with my kabuki brush and blending this foundation is a dream
The texture is amazing
And yes it does Mattify. I always use it paired with my No 7 mattifying primer

CON:

It doesnt come with a pump and that leads to a messy application all the time

The shade selection is not favorable for WOC {women of color}. They only have about 3 or 4 shades that can work for dark skin. I must say Im so lucky I got a shade that works for me.

Other than that I think its a great product and Its quite affordable too

And like I said it blends beautifully and covers well too

So there you have it, My unbiased opinions about the foundation. I also need to let you guys know I'd be posting reviews of some products that were the rave in the past one year.Even though they're no longer the buzz,I'd still post the reviews. They're my opinions afterall,so please judge kindly. Thank you

Nail of The Day | Intense Fuschia

Hi dolls,

How are y'all doing today?

I realized I haven't done a nail post in eons {as with every other subject, but please pardon.} Anyway I decided to paint my nails with this pretty nail polish.

But the unfortunate thing is that Its brandless, maybe not brandless, maybe the name tag was removed. either ways, I got it in a goodie bag from Makeup Maven NG at a bloggers' event a couple of months ago. I decided to not allow its "brandlessness" stop me from enjoying a beautiful manicure,lol.

The nail polish is an intense fuschia colour, and honestly just a coat is okay but i'm used to doing 2 coats, hence why i used 2 coats. It also has sparkles that even makes it all the more beautiful, I'm still gonna try to find out the name although that's almost impossible, wish me well :-}

I applied a base coat as usual and then 2 coats of the nail polish followed by my favorite top coat, Seche Vite and then I took the liberty of taking lots and lots of beautiful pictures

Oh and by the way, those are all mine

I hope you love the post, i enjoyed putting it together and I definitely enjoyed painting my nails. So cheers to the beginning to more awesome nail posts, yaay!!!

Event| Lagos makeup and Beauty connect

Hi dolls,

How's the new week treating you. Yesterday sunday 13th september was and I attended.Its an event for makeup artists and beauty lovers to connect and mingle. The turnout wasn't as I expected but it was still fun and informative.

We discussed how to maximize social media to grow your beauty business.This was like the major topic I must say I really learnt so much. Lollipops also shared some general tips on growing your business. I even got carried away at some point I forgot to take pictures lol

So here I’d let the few pictures I took do the rest of the talking

Altogether it was a great learning experience. I also got to meet a couple more makeup artists in the industry. I'd be sure to keep you informed on subsequent Industry events

Look Of The Day | Smoldering In Green

Hello divas,

I hope you had a great weekend and how are you enjoying the week? So Today I have a long story to tell you... maybe not so long. I have tried severally to take my own pictures with my DSLR camera using my 50mm lens but I just couldn't figure it out and that's one of the reasons i haven't been able to post makeup looks on the blog

I had a point and shoot camera before and it was much more easier to take pictures and all . Anyways over the last week I was determined to make it work so off i went to get my camera, tripod, ring light and my flash gun. After about 4 days and a minimum of three hours on those days, i was able to come up with these pictures, yaaaay!!! So I know the picture quality is not all that yet, I'd keep practising and come up with better pictures but for now enjoy these ones

Back to my post for the today, I realized I haven't really worn color on my face in like forever and that's why I was inspired to do this smashing look{if i do say so myself,lol}

PRODUCT REVIEW| THE MAKEUP BULLET

Hello beauties,

Its been ages yea I know. Don't even know how to make you all understand where I've been and all I've been through but then I'm in a really good place now and I promise I wont be gone this long ever again.

Anyways, today I have a new product to review for you guys. Its a revolutionary product designed by American makeup artist Eva Jane who is an award winning celebrity makeup artist .It is a blending sponge shaped in form of a bullet. You can wear it on a finger thereby freeing your hand to hold makeup brushes and other tools without having to drop your sponge

So according to them, The makeup bullet:

Fits snugly on a finger for absolute control
Flawlessly blends on every part of the face
Frees hands to hold other stuff as well
soft and gentle on skin

They also say its hypo-allergenic, latex-free, washable and reusable

A little story about how the makeup bullet came to be

So I tried it out and these are my honest thoughts about it

PROS:

looks like a rocket ready to take off, lol

I really dont have much to say here other than to agree with all that they claim. the makeup bullet is a lifesaver.... you can take that info to the bank. It does all they clam and more. The makeup bullet blends like a dream. what more can I say

CONS:

Its extra soft.Thats good cos it allows for a flawless application but also makes it liable to tearing easily. you have to take extra care if you have long nails or you wear really lenghty nail extensions

And that's about all the cons i can think of because this product is just perfect

users manual, lol

To care for the makeup bullet is pretty much like you care for your regular beauty blender sponge. the only thing you have to be extra careful about is the quality of the cleanser you choose to use. and with proper care a sponge should last you up to 3 months

Seasons greetings to you and yours . Here is wishing you a very prosperous 2015.

So I've been away for so long I've literally forgotten how to blog, lol. And i know nothing is big enough an explanation for my absence so I'd just skip to the apologies. I'm so sorry for not posting these past few months, I actually had a rough few months and that totally took my mind off blogging. That doesnt in anyway mean I dont love blogging, I just got carried away and I feel so bad about the long absence now. I started this blog years ago when there were practically no beauty bloggers in this part of the world and i am so sorry for allowing myself get overwhelmed and totally abandoning the blog as well as you my readers. I promise it wont happen again.

In the months I've been gone, a whole lot has happened-with me, my beauty business and my makeup artistry and I really can't wait to share all of them with you. I have also managed to accumulate Tons of reviews and posts I'd be sharing over the next few weeks. Also Id be hosting a looot and i mean a whole lot of Giveaways in the coming year starting from valentine's through to the year end and the basic requirement would be to follow this blog (of course, hehehe) and any one of my social media accounts.

Product Review| eos Lipbalm in summer fruit

Hello beautiful people, how are you today? I'm back again with another post call it "trying to redeem my image"...maybe. I've been away for far too long. so today i'm going to be reviewing a product , a lip balm actually

I first saw these in Miley Cyrus' video for We Can't Stop and I immediately wanted to have one, well maybe cos i'm a huge Miley fan,lol

I finally laid my hands on these a few weeks back and i've been loving it ever since

They Say: eos lip balm in Summer Fruit is 95% organic, 100% natural, and paraben and petrolatum free. Packed with antioxidant-rich vitamin E, soothing shea butter and jojoba oil, eos keeps your lips moist, soft and sensationally smooth.

Packaging
It comes in a sphere container and the lip balm itself is in the form of an hemisphere, very attractive packaging if you ask me

Pros:

The lip balm is a hundred percent organic, so you can be sure no chemicals,paraben or even petrolatum is present in it
It contains soothing ingredients like shea butter and jojoba oil, which are like the best way to moisturise anyway
Keeps the lips feeling soft and supple
It has a sugary taste to it and I give in to the urge to lick it from time to time since I know it contains no chemicals

Cons;

Tends to feel a little heavy on the lips
If you dont exfoliate your lips regularly, it just sits there alongside the shedding topmost layer of your lips

Price:

Retails for about 1500 NGN here in nigeria

Final Thoughts

I think this is an amazing invention and is a must have for in everybody's purse.the packaging is eye catching and there are different flavours to choose from but they are all organic and natural

These right here are my opinions of the lipbalm, and I think everybody deserves to have this in their life. Do not forget to exfoliate regularly to get the most out of this balm. Would put up a post about how I exfoliate and what i use. I hope you guys go out to purchase this,give your lips some TLC

Show and Tell | SLEEK STUDIO GOODIE BAG

Hello beauties, how is your week going? awesome i believe. Mine has been one hell of a roller coaster ride, but in all im still thankful to God. Last week sunday I received a package from Sleek Studio Nigeria as one of the beauty bloggers in the Nigerian beauty industry to review their newly released lip stains and previously launched skincare line.

I first fell in love with the skincare line at the LMUF2 where i was privileged to have the CEO of Sleek Nigeria who developed the skincare products herself introduce the line to me and show me how it works.I gladly went ahead to get a huge supply, which I still havent run out of lol. Now imagine my joy when i opened the package and found 3 of my fave products by them and 2 I haven"t tried before. I never got around to posting a review of my initial haul but I am definitely going to do that as soon as I try the 2 products and I can say for sure how I feel about them.

I must say at this point that this has to be the most innovative lip product i've ever come across, well i havent seen much lol. FOTD: Bantu knots with a hint of Gunmetal

So I have finally decided to go natural, yaaaay! even though I have refused to go for the big chop, I have deciced to chop off the ends of my hair gradually until I'm all natural..

This was my look to church on sunday and I have decided to share it with you guys. I put in the bantu knots on saturday evening and took it out on sunday morning and because my hair is not all that long anymore, it came out as baby curls

My makeup was a simple one: Dewy skin,smokey eyes and pink lips and it is very easy to recreate

Here are the products I used

Face
FM silicon base
ELF flawless finish foundation
Jordana forever flawless powder
Jordana blush in Redwood

Eyes
Elf mineral eyeshadow primer(I particularly love this because it works well in mattifying the lids if you have oily lids, good dupe for Urban Decay Primer Potion

Matte black from Zaron Showstopper palette
Zaron eyeliner in black velvet
Zaron lenghtening mascara

Lips

PRODUCT REVIEW | ELF HD BLUSH

Hi dolls,

The blush in its packaging

Have you ever tried blushes in another formulation asides the conventional powder? HD blushes are a must try as they give the most natural looking,long lasting rosy cheeks.
I got the Elf HD blushes a few months ago.I got mine in encore (a flirty shade of pink) and showstopper (a deep purple-like shade) but there are several other shades available to choose from

The blush in "showstopper"

The blush requires a lot of blending to achieve a good result. This can be done with a duo fibre stippling blush or a beautyblender sponge(to give that perfect airbrushed finish)

The blush in "encore"

PROS:
1). They are highly pigmented (really super-pigmented)
2). A little product goes a long way so i see this lasting for a longtime
3). The blush stays right where you place it and gives a natural glow
4). They also double as a lip color or lip stain(and they are longlasting this way too)
5). They are relatively cheap compared to high end HD blushes

A close comparison of both shades

CONS:
1). There is a need to work super fast with it as it tends to dry up as soon as it comes in contact with air
2). The pump give out a tad too much product which could lead to wastage but i always transfer mine to the lips(awesome lipcolor *winks)

Tiny bit of the blush (you need just a teensy-weensy bit to cover the cheeks)

OVERALL:
I love the HD blushes,I love the "soft-focus" effect and I am totally in love with the fact that they are highly pigmented. They retail for about 1,800 and i'd say that very reasonable for 10ml of the product(that could last you a lifetime,trust me)

The tiny bits blended out (I told ya)

Would i recommend this product? I would totally recommend it especially if you like to have a long lasting flush of color to the cheeks.

Saturday june 22 was an awesome one as it was the day the biggest gathering for makeup lovers was slated.the event took place at the Anchor Events Center ,the venue was quite bigger than the first one so it wasn't as overcrowded.

That's me all dressed up and ready to go to the LMUF2

I decided to stick with a simple makeup application

Nigerian musicians such as Ace, Skuki, Dj Zeez etc came to perform some of their tracks at the event and that got even more people excited. And in the midst of all that,As I was visiting a stand, some ladies walked up to the stand and we got talking.found out they read my blog and they insisted on a picture(that meant a whole lot to me)here's the picture i took with them

DIY | BRIGHTENING FACE MASK

This is a mask i recently discovered and it works wonders for the skin. I want to share with you all the recipe for this awesome mask because it is inexpensive and very effective. The major ingredient is unripe papaya(except for some water)

The mask is totally inexpensive since you can purchase papaya at any grocery or even get it for free if you own a small garden and you can put it on everyday mostly before bed

HOW TO MAKE THE MASK

Cut the green unripe papaya into two along the center
Scoop out all the seeds
Peel the green skin of the papaya(you dont need that in your mask)
Dice the peeled papaya into moderately sized chunks
Put the diced papaya with a little water into a blender
Blend and add water as needed to make a fine paste

HOW TO APPLY THE MASK

Start off with a fresh cleanly washed face
Apply the mask either all over the face to brighten your facial skin
or you apply it directly over dark spots or blackheads on the face to improve their appearance and to gradually fade it out
Rinse your face with warm water after leaving it on for about 30 mins
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for future use

PRODUCT REVIEW | ASTA GEL LINERS

Gel liners are my favourite simply because they're long lasting and smudge proof (when used on the lower lash line,and most definitely the upper) and they should be yours too if you love to have your eyes properly lined

Asta gel liners is a product of Nigerian origin(yaaay!!!!). Well,you can only imagine how excited I was when I first heard about them.My experience with gel liners haven't been all that palatable(as they often dry out quickly) so I was more than eager to try a new product,especially after I read all the claims about the product and did i forget to mention that the shades come in such lovely names? we have Emerald(green), Twilight (blue), Onyx (black),Currant (purple) and Nude brown(a light shade of brown)

The liners are absolutely waterproof(just as they claim).I wouldn't advise you to use in your waterline if your eyes get irritated easily from tugging at it because its gonna be a big battle getting it out.Notwithstanding,its a good choice if you want a smudge proof line that stays put all day
They are hypoallergenic.They wont give any irritations
The liner comes with a short applicator brush(which i havent used yet,and I doubt I will),An angled liner brush will do better justice for me
They can be used as an eyeshadow base or even worn alone as eyeshadow

Cons

Asta Gel Liner in Nude Brown

I think the packaging is a bit too bulky for the size of the product.A clear packaging that would allow you have a peek at whats inside without necessarily having to open the pack would have been more appropriate

Overall: I think the Asta Gel Eyeliners are totally true to their claims and are truly hypoallergenic. They retail for 1500 NGN(that's about $11) and I'd say that's fair enough for 5g of product.A thin foil (shown below) is also included to keep the product from drying out

Couldn't help laughing out loud at the title that I came up with,but then it perfectly suits the look so i had to overlook it

This was the look i rocked today and i received several compliments even though it was a really simple look and im sure anybody can recreate it. I'm sure going to re-rock *winks*

I used products that are easily within reach and affordable.but if it so happens that you can't lay your hands on any of the products i used,feel free to substitute

Elf mineral infused face primer
Marykay Medium coverage foundation in 607 and 507

Hello everyone, i'm sure a lot of people have been wondering where i have been and what exactly i've been up to.

Hello everyone,

Hope you're having a good year already.so I decided to do a motivayional post and if you're familiar with my style of writing,you'd know that this is not my usual thing but i hope it inspires you.I got the inspiration for this post in the bath tub while having one of my occassional long baths and it just occurred to me that we are two weeks down in the year already.Just like that? *surprised*

But the good thing is...there are 50 more weeks to make a mark this year.

I'm not one for new year resolutions but if you did set out resolutions,what are you doing to achieve them?

Don't just sit around expecting your dreams to come true,expecting your aspirations to work out themselves.NO they won't except you work at it,except you push hard.

At the rate this year is moving,you'd wake up some day and realize its 31st december again! Another year gone by without any remarkable achievements ???
I'm sure nobody wants that

Give 100% this year,pursue your passion,acquire a new skill,upgrade your skills and ultimately upgrade yourself in every possible way and whenever you're tempted to give up? Don't stop trying and in the end you'll be better for it

Bridal Makeover | Tomi !!!

Hi everyone.
just thought to post this bridal makeup look before it gets outdated.Tomi got hitched on the first of december and i had so much fun working with her and her entire bridal party.The bride and i had decided months earlier that i was gonna be her makeup artist and she didn't (for a minute)change her mind about that,for that i'm totally grateful.

Anyways,her colors for the day were in shades of blue and i had this beautiful look i had created in my head of how i wanted her to look on her wedding day before i realised that she wasnt really into makeup.

so i had to reduce my application on her face to its most natural look and she loved it because it was her kind of makeup.The finished look was unbelievable and everybody loved the simple,yet stunning transformation.

Hello beautiful people, happy holidays .

I really don't have any concrete excuse for being MIA all these while but i hope you bear with me.I have tons of pictures i've piled up over the past few months and i promise i'll post all of them no matter how long it takes.

Yinka is one of the lovely people i know and we decided on a makeover/photoshoot sometimes in july or august but we didn't get around to it till sometimes in october due to her busy schedule(and mine too).

I decided to go a little bold on the lips,and she liked it,but she's yet to muster the courage to rock it,lol. The green eyeliner was meant to complement the lips and stand the eyes out a little more.

How was your weekend? and how is your week going?mine is pretty much going as i planned and i'm happy.This is one of the post that have been lying around here since like forever and i really wanna share.Did this makeover a while ago but haven't been able to post.I tried enhancing her looks without making it look like she's wearing loads of makeup. She has a phobia for lining her eyes and i was able to help her overcome it.and she totally loved it
