I tried not repeating items from previous monthly favorites but honestly I didn't check older posts so there might be so repeats! It's hard not to include HG products every month!

Clinique Brow Shaper
Probably the one makeup item I inherited from my mom. Not literally, as I got my own product in my own shade, but she's had her for almost 20 years now and there's still product remaining on her compact. This brow shaper is the best thing that has ever happened to my brows. It fills them in and it looks incredibly natural. It lasts all day and the compact itself I know will last me for years to come!

MAC studio fix fluid
Best liquid foundation I've ever tried, and best color match I've ever gotten. It's probably the yellowest foundation I've tried and I love it because I'm as yellow as they come. (I use this foundation in NC25 btw). Every other foundation I've tried, even those I've loved because of their texture/finish, I've never been able to match my undertone so perfectly. It doesn't break me out that I've noticed, but I might still have to test it more.

Maybelline Age Rewind Dlouble Face Perfector
This is one of those two-in-one products, it has a concealer in one side and and highlighter in the other. I've used this product every day for the past months to conceal my undereye area and I love it! It has replaced my MAC select moisturecover concealer that I used under my eyes. This Maybelline concealer is very pink based so it's PERFECT for the under eye area but too pink for the rest of my face. This cover the darkest under eye circles, stays on ALL DAY and it doesn't crease at all. Even my MAC concealer creased everyday! This dries very fast and absolutely does not crease. The highlighter end I don't use often but it reminds me a lot of Benefit's High Beam, except a little more liquidly, a little less pink and little less shimmery.

MAC Hipness Blush
I have it in the Fafi compact instead of the more recent To the Beach green compact, but yeah, this is my absolute favorite blush from MAC! Most blushes from MAC I have a hard time getting them to show up on my skin but this one is pure pigmentation. It looks almost like a shocking coral pink in the pan but on the cheeks it gives the most amazing subtle flush. You CAN overdo this blush if you are not careful. It is really pigmented!

NARS Deep Throat blush
I got this in April for my bday from my mom and I was kinda disappointed with the pigmentation because people rave about NARS blushes being the big shit in terms of pigmentation. After having a hard time getting orgasm to show up, I wanted Deep Throat to prove my suspicions wrong. At first it didn't and the only NARS blush that showed up on my was Torrid. When I read that Deep Throat was close to the MAC Marine Life highlight powder (that I couldn't get!), I couldn't believe it because ML was crazy in-yo-face coral and DT was invisible on me. I gave it another try and it seems like I was being to light-handed the first time around. I made DT work. And I can't believe the gorgeous color I was missing out! I've used it a lot these past months and I love it!

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Hidden Treasure
I got this after seeing swatches online, and then searching every drugstore I could reach to buy it. This is one hard to find item in my area! The search was totally worth it because this nail polish / glitter top coat it amazing. It has irregularly shaped glitter chunks of different sizes submerged in a whitish / clear glaze. This doesn't show up so great on the nail by itself but over some other colors it is AMAZING. It looks especially breath-taking over dark colors like black, navy blue or deep purple.

Wet n' Wild Color Icon single eyeshadow in Nutty
These days everyone knows that the new WnW Color Icon eyeshadows are DA DOMB. I picked up this particular color because I don't have any taupe eyeshadow color, and this looked like a nice one. Plus, I already have one Color Icon Palette and absolutely love it, so I knew this shadow wouldn't be the exception. So. I picked this up and found it to be a great color either for an all-over lid color with a darked color in the crease, or my favorite combination, using a lighter color all over the lid (like MAC Shroom) and using the WnW Nutty in the crease. I use this last combination almost everyday I wear makeup :)

That's all for my monthly favorites! Hope it was interesting for you and not too long and boring :) Anything in my list you own and love? Or maybe it didn't work for you? Comment and let me know! What products did you absolutely love in June?

Blush swatches and comparisons! So today I was swatching all my blushes in order to find possible dupes, and after I was done decided to take a picture and share it with you guys so you could compare different blushes. I did forget to swatch my cream blushes and some of my bronzers, but I’ll see if I do a post about those later.

So here are the pictures, with natural light and then with flash. Do click them to enlarge them, that way you’ll be able to see the texture better. For reference, my skin color is a MAC NC/C30, but the area of my arm where I swatched the colors is a tad lighter than that, of course.

Here’s a list of the colors swatched:

Top row

MAC MSF in Cheeky Bronze

MAC powder blush in Prim & Proper

MAC powder blush in Margin

ELF natural radiance blusher in Flushed

ELF natural radiance blusher in Bronzed

NARS blush in Orgasm

NARS blush in Torrid

ELF Studio blush in Candid Coral

ELF Studio blush in Tickled Pink

Bottom row

MAC MSF in Shimpagne

Laura Geller Blush-n-Brighten in Honey Dipped

MAC powder blush in Style

ELF Healthy Glow bronzer in Sunkissed

ELF Studio contouring blush and bronzing duo

NARS blush in Deep Throat

ELF Studio Blush in Mellow Mauve

ELF Studio blush in Peachy Keen

So there it is, I hope these swatches give you a chance to compare colors. Personally, I love when I find side-by-side swatches online so that I can compare products. So if you are looking for an inexpensive dupe of a more expensive color, this might serve as a small guide, or if you’re trying to avoid getting duplicate shades, I hope this was of some help too.

I’m not going to call out which shades are similar because I think you can judge that yourselves, plus I think none of the colors I own are the exact same, although there are definitely some that are very similar and might be alternatives to one another.

Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below Until next time!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lunnula.blogspot.com/2010/05/blush-swatches-and-comparisons-nars-elf.html' title='Blush swatches and comparisons! I have been missing in action for a while now, but I won’t make up excuses for myself or anything… I’ll just straight to the point of this post! I wanted to share my thoughts on the Milani 3D Glitzy Glamour glosses, which I bought at my local Walgreens for $6 (each).

The packaging of this stuff is gorgeous, though a tad on the bulky side. So that might me a turn off for those who want to carry their lipgloss in a purse with limited space or a small makeup bag. So the applicator is a little semi-stiff brush which is amazing and super easy to use, which is rare in drugstore lipglosses IMO. Love it!

These lipglosses are sooo smooth and absolutely NOT sticky. These are the least sticky lipgloss I’ve ever had. My lips feel so good when I’m wearing them. Plus, it smells soooo good. It smells and tastes sort of like vanilla maybe? Like candy and vanilla. I can’t get over how amazing these smell. These come in eight colors but I only got two, Starshine and Fashion Diva. I am so happy with both of these colors and I’ve been wearing them to school everyday.

Starshine is a beautiful purplish baby pink with pink sparkles. I love it because it’s subtle but super shiny but it’s noticeable at the same time, and it makes my lips look soo pretty.

Fashion Diva is a color I had to think twice before getting, and I don’t regret it one bit! It’s like magenta with bright purple and gold sparkles! It looks a but scary in the tube because the color is so intense and funky but it’s absolutely gorgeous when worn either alone or layered over a pink lipstick.

One thing I noticed about this glosses is that they make my lips look fuller. They aren’t really plumping, but all the pretty sparkles make your lips look super full. At one point, I looked myself at the mirror while wearing Fashion Diva and thought “WOW, I HAVE PORNSTAR LIPS”. Sexy! While they look really shiny and sparkly, have in mind these don’t make your lips look a disco ball, but will definitely give you noticeable lips.

Pictures (click to enlarge):

Amazing applicator! I mean, it claims to turn into your matching shade after you put it on. Could it be? You have to admit this sounds definitely cool. Truth is, I wasn’t impressed with this concealer at all. Why? Well, because it doesn’t conceal anything. Wherever on my face I would put it, it would go on gray, and then as I blend it in it changes, going through different shades of color, and ultimately, it goes on gray on my skin. My skin has yellow undertones, there is not gray in it and gray concealer looks plain ugly and out of place. Other than that, it basically just sits there being sheer and letting all your imperfections see through. I tried this concealer as an under eye concealer, as a scar/blemish concealer, as a redness concealer… nothing. It does nothing for my face. I tried applying it with my fingers and I tried applying it with a concealer brush and I get similar results.

It comes in a little squeezy tube with 0.37 fluid ounces. It has SPF 15 so that’s good, right? I was about $8 at Wal-Mart. It might not be a total lost case, and I’m sure it could work for someone who has very little to cover up, and happens to have a skin tone that the concealer can match.

Overall, I’m disappointed with it and I don’t have any use for it so I will throw it away.

Maybelline New York Define-A-Line Eyeliner Review and Swatches

Hi lovelies! I figured it’s time to review Maybelline’s Define-a-line eyeliner because I’ve been using it for a while and I have lots to say about it!

I have to admit that I am not very skilled with pencil eyeliner. Maybe I haven’t come across the perfect pencil eyeliner yet, but yeah, that’s another story. The main reason I bought this Define-a-line eyeliner because it’s tiny and retractable, compared to long pencil eyeliners. Its small size made it perfect for carrying around, and trust me I love carrying makeup around with me. I can’t deal with makeup that is too bulky because more often than not I’ll want to take it to-go and if it’s too big I won’t be able to.

Like I said, the packaging is small and the eyeliner itself is retractable, so it greatly reduces the chance that you’ll break it. When you want to use it you uncap it and twist it up, and when you’re done you twist it down and cap it again. Nice, right? On the other end there is another little cap that protects a smudger. This smudger was another one of the reasons I got this eyeliner in the first place. I thought it was a nice idea to have the built-in smudger to quickly aid the creation of a smokey-eye look.

This products is advertised as having a built-in sharpener, that for a long time, I thought referred to the fact that you could twist it up and get more product. Dumb me. The sharpener, is a actually, a real actual tiny sharpener that sits right under the smudger. So if you pull out the smudger, there’s the sharpener!

When you first open the product it is already sharpened, and the application is fairly easy. The product is really creamy and glides smoothly over your lash line. When the point isn’t sharp anymore, it creates a wider line unless you sharpen it. So I sharpened mine and guess what happened? It broke. Yes, really, it broke. Like, the point got stuck inside the sharpener. This eyeliner is so soft that you can’t really sharpen it without breaking it. It was a pain to clean up the mess inside the sharpener, but I did and tried sharpening it again. Guess what? It broke again. And again. And again. And I was left with NO eyeliner. That’s how many times it broke. So I trashed it.

Then I bought a new one, and thought to myself “I won’t sharpen it ever again!”. I hadn’t had the product for a long time before it broke, and so far I had liked what I saw, and that’s why I repurchased. I learned to use it without sharpening it by applying it sideways (like with the borders of an eyeliner cylinder). After using it for a while I noticed something. This product is way too creamy. I mean, I loved that it was creamy as opposed to being like the harsh eyeliner pencil I had tried before, but this eyeliner is creamy to the point that it never dries or sets or anything. It smudges, it transfers to any surface it touches (even lightly), it just doesn’t stay put. This eyeliner is so creamy that the smudger is actually more of an ERASER than a smudger. Seriously, when I used the smudger what it did was remove all the eyeliner I had just applied.

Overall, I stopped using the sharpener, stopped using the smudger, the color never sets on your skin. It’s smudgy, and if you’re having a particularly oily-face day, you’re getting raccoon eyes. One way I found to mildly stop it from giving me raccoon eyes was to prime my eye, even if I wasn’t going to wear eyeshadow. I wouldn’t recommend this product just because it’s way too creamy. And after having two of them, I won’t repurchase this!

M.A.C. Who was I to say no? So he removed my makeup and did it all over. I was actually very pleased with the results and fell in-love with every single one of the products he used on my face. But the one thing that he used that I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it, the one thing that did BOOM to my look was…. the mascara!

I couldn’t believe how huge and black this mascara made my lashes look! I’ve only heard bad things about M.A.C. mascara. All those negative reviews I’ve read about it were the first thing that came to my mind. But it was hard to resist when it’s right there making your eyelashes look fabulous! So I told him I was definitely taking that mascara. And I did. It was reasonably priced at $13, which is even comparable to the price of some drugstore mascara.

The applicator looks… ordinary. Usually when I review mascara I take a good look at and comment about the applicator. But this one doesn’t have anything particularly special. I like that it is small enough to be able to get the lashes over the inner corner of my eyes, plus it allows for a clean application on my lower lashes. The tube is sleek and beautiful, typical of M.A.C.; it is also small enough to fit comfortably in my stuffed makeup bag.

I got it in “zoomblack” and I have to say it has very rich pigmentation so it really is the blackest black. The bristles don’t do a lot for separation but you can achieve good separation by going over the parts that you think need to be separated. I’ve read reviews from people saying it clumps, but this isn’t the case for me at all. It is very manageable and easy to apply and get it to look exactly as you want it to look. You can do a light application or you can build it up for a more dramatic look. This mascara does add lenght to my lashes, and I mean it, a lot of noticeable lenght.

My eye with no makeup at all:

And with Zoom Lash mascara:

I only have two minor complaints about this mascara. First, it doesn’t dry very fast. While it doesn’t take an eternity to dry, it does take a bit more time than other mascaras I’ve used. I kinda like that it gives me time to get it to look how I want before it dries, but the downside, at least in my case, is that it lengthens my lashes so much, that when it is still wet, my tip of my lashes stain the skin above my eye with mascara. You know, it leaves like little dots where each lash touched the skin. So I have to be cleaning that up. The other thing I don’t particularly love about this mascara is the smell. It doesn’t smell bad, it just smells weird. And this weird smell is a strong smell. Of course it goes away soon after you apply mascara and it dries.

This mascara lasts on my eyes all day without ever smudging. I am a compulsive eye-toucher and guess what? No raccoon eyes. It doesn’t make eyelashes brittle or flaky. It just gives your lashes that flawless black, long, sleek look. In general really love this mascara. I especially recommend this mascara if you are mainly looking for a way to add lenght to your lashes. And I think I will be repurchasing this after I run out!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lunnula.blogspot.com/2010/05/mac-zoom-lash-mascara-in-zoomblack.html' title='M.A.C. The Covergirl Lashblash volume blasting mascara, also known as the Lashblast in the fat orange tube, is pure awesomeness in a tube. Fat orange tube, that it.

I have this mascara in very black, non-waterproof formula.

The bristles of the applicator impressed me as soon as I opened the product. They are big fat rubbery spikes. I wasn’t sure how that was going to work separating my lashes, but it does give me incredible lash separation. I have other mascaras that are very clumpy, and when I use them I apply this Lashblast mascara over it to separate them and it adds instant boom to my lashes. I wouldn’t say it does a lot to lengthen my lashes, but it does add some length as opposed to no mascara at all.

The wand is big but it allows you to apply mascara comfortable to your inner lashes. One thing I don’t like much about the wand is that the tip is completely flat with no bristles, and right after you take the wand out of the tube there is almost always like a chunk of mascara just stuck there on the flat tip. I usually just clean it up against the border of the tube, because if I don’t it can result in that chunk of mascara sticking somewhere to your face. Not pretty at all!

This mascara doesn’t clump, and it doesn’t make my lash tips touch and mess up the skin above of my eye, like some other mascaras I’ve used have done. The consistency of this product is rather creamy so it doesn’t run; it goes on clean and easily, plus it dries in a reasonable amount of time. I love the staying power of this formula. I can wear it all day long with no smearing or smudging, so it doesn’t give me raccoon eyes at all! Even if I touch my eyes, I won’t get product all over my fingers or smudged around. At the end of the day my lashes still look great, not flaky or brittle at all.

To remove it I use makeup remover wipes from Walgreens (no fancy makeup remover here!) and it comes off just fine. Now, have in mind this is the regular formula, not the waterproof. I’ve only heard amazing raves about the waterproof version though! According to CoverGirl’s claims, the formula is hypoallergenic and suitable for contact lens wearers, which is always a plus since I don’t want my mascara to mess around with my contacts!

The famous orange tube is very cute but not very practical, since it’s a bit too big, so it’s hard to fit into my makeup bag which is not that big and is already stuffed with other makeup that I must carry around everyday.

Overall I think this is a wonderful mascara, possibly one of the best ones I’ve used. I totally recommend it if you want fuller-looking lashes in one easy step.

Have you tried this product? I was so impressed with it that I went the next day to the drugstore to see if I could find it. I was so excited I did!

So as the name implies, this concealer comes in a stick, kind of like a lipstick. I started using it as my everyday concealer about two months ago and I still have product left. The consistency is rather creamy, although not as creamy as it could be since it does tug on your skin a bit when you apply it right off the stick. There are other ways to apply it, of course, if you don’t want to tug and pull your skin.

As Maybelline promises, it does cover up blemishes incredibly. It is a solid, matte, opaque coverage that hides what you want to hide. I tried blending it with a concealer brush but that wasn’t a good idea because heavy-cream consistency makes it hard to blend with a brush without streaking. So my favorite method to apply this concealer is with my fingers. Once it’s blended out it makes your skin look smooth and natural; it doesn’t leave behind any weird texture that makes it look like there’s something there. We’re trying to conceal things, not bring attention to them, right?

I have acne scars on my cheeks and with this concealer I can cover them up nicely. In fact, my makeup routine for my face every morning for a while was: this concealer, pressed powder and blush. Nothing more. Oh, did I mention it’s waterproof? Well, it is. I don’t know how that affects the staying power of it. After a long day this concealer does wear off, go away, or somehow else leaves my face because I can start seeing hints of my scars again. If you use it as an under-eye concealer, it can crease, but it doesn’t do it all the time. At least not on me. I’ve seen creasing like two or three times.

As much as I generally loved using this product, I stopped using it recently because I’ve been breaking out more often since I use it. I can’t tell for sure, but maybe it’s the mineral oil it contains, because my skin is very acne prone and breaks out even more often when I use products with mineral oil.

In general, I really like this concealer and I would recommend it to people who don’t have acne-prone skin. I got two shades of this lip gloss, one is Strawberry Ice and the other is Magenta Flash.

The packaging is pretty basic, it comes in a tube with a soft wand applicator. For some reason, this is my favorite way to apply lip gloss, so I really like that about this lip gloss. When you take the wand out of the tube it comes out with a good enough amount of product. When you apply it, the wand tip feels really soft on my lips and it glides right on.

If you look at the product from the outside of the tube the colors look pretty neat. Strawberry Ice is a very light baby pink, and Magenta Flash is a more intense and strong shade of pink (magenta?). However, when you apply this lip gloss, there’s not much you can do to tell the difference between them. Especially after ten minutes… it makes no difference which you put on; the hint of color looks the same.

So, for a lipgloss, this isn’t a very glossy product. When you first apply it, it looks fairly glossy and cute. I actually like how it looks after you have just applied it, because it gives a very subtle gloss with a hint of color. But as the day proceeds, it wears away. About ten minutes after application there’s not much color left, and about after an hour, there’s basically no gloss left. So if you’re only wearing this product on your lips, you’ll need constant reapplication.

In an apparent attempt for a fruity scent / taste… this product smells and tastes bad. The smell is not that terrible, but after its on your lips, the smell combined with the taste is excessively chemical-like and just… well, not something I want to have on my lips.

The product description for this lip gloss mentiones it has “Vitamins A and E help protect your lips from the drying effects of sun and environment”. So even though I don’t really notice these things when I wear the product, I guess it’s always a plus.

As far as I know, this isn’t a lip-plumping gloss (you know, those that trigger a tiny allergic reaction a plump up your lips)… but! when I wear this MegaSlicks lip gloss I get this strange, tingly, itch on my lips that I’m pretty sure it’s not supposed to be there. This lip gloss, how ever, does not plump my lips or make them look fuller in any way, it just causes this really annoying, numbing tingle.

I still sometimes use this lipgloss regardless of the numbing / tingling / itch and the bad smell and taste. But after these tubes I have are over, I’m not purchasing this buying again.

Purchased at Walmart for around $3.00 each.

Review: Wet n Wild Ultimate Minerals Loose Blush and Bronzer

The Wet n wild name might remind you of preteen makeup, but that’s not necessarily true! I got these at Walmart on the same day because they were ridiculously cheap and I wanted to try them. I don’t remember the exact price, but it was sure under $5.00.

I think the packaging is lovely; they come in a 0.17oz jars with a double lid. When you unscrew the outer lid off, you find a second liftable lid that stays attached to one side of the jar. You might have seen this kind of packaging in other loose mineral makeup, but if not, I’ll describe it to you. The inner lid has inward projections that insert into the little holes through which the loose makeup comes out of. So when you open the first lid, you won’t have all a cloud of mineral makeup floating or spilling around because a second lid prevents it from coming out of the little holes. I love the security this kind of packaging provides, not just keeping the loose makeup under a shield with holes, but also capping the holes so you don’t waste product and/or make a mess.

I got the loose blush in #163 Pinched Pink, which is the lightest color they have (and the only color they had at my local Walmart) and I wasn’t sure it was going to look good on my skin because it looks rather bright if you look at the product from the outside of the packaging. So I was pleasantly surprised to find that the color is amazing and it looks good on my skin. It is not very pigmented, and I actually like that about this blush because it allows me to apply just a hint of pink, and then build over it as desired. It is buildable, so if you want a more noticeable color, a couple more brush strokes do just fine.

The bronzer only comes in one color, #167 Amber Glow. This is a lightly pigmented bronzer, and I find that it isn’t as buildable as the blush is. If you look at the color from the outside of the jar it looks like an orangey-tannish brown. When applied, it doesn’t really look orange like you just got a bad self tan, but I think it is a bit too light to be a bronzer, especially since it doesn’t really build up, like I said before.

I have two major complaints about these products. First, it’s shimmery. I don’t think it’s a terrible thing and I have nothing against shimmery makeup, but at least for a bronzer, I would prefer a matte variety. I would have also liked seeing a matte mineral blush, but I don’t mind shimmer in blushes as much as I mind it in bronzers. My second complaint is that it makes my face itch and burn. It’s not as bad as making me puff and turn red, but these products do make my face itch considerably. The itch starts about 30 minutes after I’ve put on all my makeup, lasts for about 30 more minutes, then either goes away or I stop noticing it’s there. I’ve searched people’s reviews on these products to see if they have had similar problems, but apparently it’s just me. Or no one else is writing about it on the Internet. I stopped using the bronzer because it’s not worth the itch. But the blush, I just love the color too much. I still use the blush daily and I love the subtle color it gives to my cheeks. So I apply less product in an effort to minimize the itch, and it’s actually better.

Do you own this product? Share your experience with it! You don’t own it? Well, would you consider it? I’m going to be reviewing NYC Cosmestics Kiss Gloss Lipgloss. I got my first tube of this lipgloss (yes I have more than one!) at a drugstore for around $3.00. It comes in a cute 0.32 fl. oz. typical lipgloss tube . Let me tell you, it smells amazing. Some people say it smells like chemicals, but yeah, I don’t think it does. It does, however, taste a little like chemicals as opposed to tasting like pink lemonade. Not that I expected it to taste like actual pink lemonade you know. It doesn’t taste bad either, you. Compared to other lipglosses I’ve tried, this one has a nice taste. But hey, we’re not supposed to be eating our lipgloss, right?

The applicator is a slant, flat surface with a little hole, which I’ve always found to be an uncomfortable way to apply lip product. When you press the tube to make the product come out, press gently! This is a very shiny lipgloss. Even if you are using a little bit, you’ll have super shiny lips for a long time. So don’t press the tube a lot or you’ll get a lot of product out and have a blinding, super shiny mess on your lips. It is that shiny. With the excessive shine of this product comes something else: stickiness. Unless you apply loads of lipgloss, it won’t make your lips stick together or anything that exaggerated, but… if the wind blows your hair to your face it will get stuck to your lips. And I mean, really stuck. Like, it won’t be enough to shake your head to get the hair off; you’ll need to take the hair strands with your hands and pull them away. That’s about how sticky it gets with a “normal” application. So it’s not really the kind of lipgloss I would want to be wearing if I were going to kiss someone. I do wear it for class because it is very long lasting and I don’t go around kissing people in my classes.

I got the color “pink lemonade” is a very light and very pretty shimmery pink. It smells very sweet and I love it! When I noticed I started running out of this lipgloss, I got a second tube in “cherry”. Cherry, unlike pink lemonade, is not shimmery at all. It’s a beautiful soft reddish color and it smells like pink bubblegum. I love them both and I guess the only thing I don’t like about the product in general is the stickiness that makes it a make-out unfriendly lip gloss, which is ironic considering it’s named Kiss Gloss!

Have you tried NYC cosmetics Kiss Gloss lipgloss? What do you think about it? If you haven’t tried it, would you consider trying it?
