Since summer is in full swing and we don't have to be in a hurry to go anywhere in the morning Allyson and I have been experimenting with lots of different hair styles. The funny little told me after I had trimmed her bangs that she wants to grow them out "so that way my hair can be all one length!"

And of course she wants hair bows to go along with the hair styles....so that has become my new hobby:

Summer has officially started....the last day of school was on June 14th we ended the school year on a roller coaster of emotions since they have built a new elementary school in our area we won't being seeing all of our friends next year along with quite a few teachers so next year will be a new journey....so the end of the year was quite sad....but we took pictures to remember this year by:

A New Season A New Layout

I was just noticing that I have been spending more time on Facebook than with the blogging world....so it is the start of summer so a new layout was an order....

Well we completed another year of school...I am now officially a mom of a third grader and a first grader...where oh where does the time go....I just got done posting photos of them starting the school year and now it is summer vacation once again....so here is a start of summer photo...

It has been so nice to get a break from the everyday routine...we get to sleep in!!! Which I love doing and is grateful that my monkeys like sleeping just as much as I do...although we do feel sorry for daddy who still has to get up in the morning...we've filled our days now that the sun has come out playing outside with friends and riding bikes....

Boy am I lame it has been so long since I've posted anything....ever since I joined facebook, that's where I've been posting everything....

So since my last post way back in June...after our camping trip to Idaho ...what has happened?

We got a dog...a three year lab/retriever mix...her name is Tinkerbell

We started school: Allyson is in 2nd grade this year

Thomas started kindergarten this year:

We said goodbye to some very special friends, just before school started they moved to Colorado:

Allyson & Thomas decided that it was time for me to have a new layout for my blog.
Thomas said "Mommy it's spring time now and you've had the same picture since after Christmas." So today I got a new layout and the little people are happy. Here is where I got my new layout:

1. The joy of spring break, according to Allyson...

a. I get to sleep in!!!
b. I can play whenever I want, inside or outside with my friends.
c. I get my mommy and daddy to myself all day, because my brother still had to go to school.
One thing I'm happy for is that on Monday they both have to go back to school. I can then catch up on my housework.

2. I missed last weeks post so here is my favorite picture from St. Patrick's Day:

3. Please continue to pray for peace and comfort for the King family, as Darian continues his battle with cancer. You can keep updated on his condition here.

1. Wow what a beautiful day it has been! The sun is shinning even though it is a bit breezy. We are able to see Mount Hood from our house. My kiddos were saying this morning, "look mommy it's mountain hood, we can see it again!" And I told them at least for the next few days we will be able to see it. It's suppose start raining again this weekend.

2. Here is an opportunity to help our community: Our local MOPS group is hosting an Italian Dinner this Saturday March 14, 2009

Court Street MOPS- Mothers of Preschooler- is hosting a dinner to help raise funds for the group.
Make a reservation, come with family and friends. Order from a yummy menu, and enjoy! You pay when you leave. It should be a lot of fun, and a great night out as a family or just the two of you!!!

10% of the proceeds will help with the new TEEN MOPS group that is starting this fall.

The reservation times are: 4:30, 5:15, 6:00, 6:45, & 7:30.
For adults it is $10 a plate and for kids eating from their own plate it is $5.
This meal includes salad, bread, a choice of two different pasta dishes, a drink and dessert.

You can buy the meals and take them to go. Great solution for those who are on the go, need a quick meal, want to bring a meal to someone, etc. Please take advantage of this.

If someone can't come but they still want to help our MOPS group they can make a donation to MOPS. They can make their check out to Court Street Christian Church and in the subject/memo spot put MOPS. (It is a tax right off.)

Today is great day for puddle splashing...that is what Allyson told me this morning when we woke up.

2. I finished all of Thomas' birthday presents. He was very happy.

3. And now we have our own little band, for Thomas' birthday he got a little drum set, his daddy plays the guitar, I play the keyboard, and Allyson is the singer.

My baby is now 5 years old...where has the time gone?

Now that you are 5 some of your favorite things are having stories read to you, you love going to the library to get new stories, some of your favorite books are the I Spy books, any books about transformers, spiderman, superman, teenage mutant ninja turtles. You are starting to recognize words when daddy reads you stories. You love your cars and trucks. You love going to school and spending time with your friends.

You still love to cuddle with me and give the best hugs. And I know as you get older that will be something that I'll miss. But for now I'll take all the hugs and cuddles you want to give. You are such a big boy now, you have your opinions about what you want to eat and what you want to wear, you are becoming your own little person.

Happy birthday little man!! I'm looking forward to year 5 holds in store for us!!

On this snowy Thursday...

1. Here is what we woke up too this morning...the little rascals thought that maybe they would get to stay home and play in it but they had to go to school...so sad...:( for them...

Hopefully it won't melt too much before they come home, so they can play in it for a little bit...

2. I'm plugging along on Thomas' birthday presents...I finished two hats for him

I'm still working on his hoodie sweater, I made the mistake of trying it on him with the knitting needles still attached and lost too many stitches to try and save it so I had to start all over again. But surprising it didn't take as long as I thought it would to redo. Pictures to come soon.

3. My next projects will be for St. Patrick's day...I'm going to make Allyson another twirly skirt with a variegated green yarn and we found her a really cute hair band with green braids to wear. For Thomas I'm going to make him a vest and another Skater baby hat out of a woodsy color yarn which has browns and greens running through it, so he can wear it again.

we are looking forward to spring...today is suppose to be in the high 50's with friday and saturday being in the 60's. the little rascals are so excited to go outside and ride their bikes and play with friends. but then come sunday it's suppose to start raining again... :(

1. i finished my february lady sweater yesterday...it was put on hold for a couple of weeks due to the little rascals being sick.

2. now that i'm finished with my sweater i need to jump on making thomas' birthday presents...he has asked if i could make him a hat, a sweater since i've made his sister 2 sweaters/cardigans, and a pillow to take to school for nap time. i have a little over a week to finish it all. his birthday is on february 28th.

3. and we need some prayers for a family in our church, the King family, you can find out more of their journey here.

Three things this Thursday

1. It's funny once I start looking for patterns to make something for one kid, the other one always asks "What about me?" The other day I was looking for somethings to make for Thomas for his birthday, and Allyson asked "What are you going to make for me?" So this is what I made for her...Twirly Remix

I also did end up finding a few things to make for Thomas
1) Kiddie Cadet: It's an army shaped hat with a brim, when I saw the picture I knew he would love it!
2) He requested a knitted pillow with army man yarn to take to school for nap time. So I'm going to make him a cabled pillow.
3) He also requested a sweater with a hood, which I'm still looking for a pattern that is seamless...

2) We got another taste of winter here in Oregon, although to the rascals disappointment not enough snow to call school off and stay home and play in it, but the weather people did say we might get some more snow later on tonight...

3) Thank goodness we are all on the mend from being sick...Thomas has a sinus infection, we took him to the doctor last Friday since he was still running a fever and being extremely grumpy. And the doctor put him on antibiotics which he still has another 4 more days to take, but he is back to his usual happy go lucky self. And I have bronchitis and I'm on antibiotics too...and Allyson is getting over her cold as well. So I'm hoping by next week everyone is healthy once again.

It has been great the last few days of the sunshine, too bad that we were too sick to go out and enjoy everyday of it. Here are a few pictures from Saturday afternoon before the kids got sick...

We've been at home since Sunday night during the Super Bowl running fevers and coughing up a storm, Allyson stayed home from school on Monday & Tuesday and now Thomas has the same thing, he's stayed home on Wednesday and today. Hopefully we will get over this cold very soon, I miss sleeping! :) Allyson is on the mend, she just has the cough and this afternoon Thomas has started to perk up some, he broke the fever which is great. Now we just have to deal with the coughing.

Another Project Finished...

I have found out that sweaters/cardigans are not as hard as I thought they would be. In just this month I've made 2 cardigans for Allyson.

I made some modifications to this one: I added 3/4 sleeves and changed the lace pattern to make it different from the first one. In the original pattern the lace pattern is called "Tulip Lace" for this one I picked the "zig zag lace" from the book I got for Christmas "A Treasury of Knitting Patterns".
I am still on the hunt for a sweater pattern for Thomas, but I did find a pattern that I like for me, it is called "Shalom Cardigan." So that is my next project.

Here is the first project of the year!! Yippee! And the little miss loves it!

Now all I need to do is find a pattern for Thomas, so he has something he can wear other than hats, scarves and carry around blankets. It is a lot harder to find things to make for boys. I can't find any patterns that I really like. But I will keep looking.

I have found so many cute things to make for Allyson. I was thinking that this
it is called the "Cowgirl butterfly astronaut vest" would be the next thing that I make for Allyson or I may make another Boheme.

Welcome to 2009! And we welcome the new year with this:
Mr. Rain, which I guess is better than this:

Mr. Snow which got us a 3 week Christmas break, but now the little monkeys are ready to go back to school. Allyson told me this morning, "now it's the new year I can go to school! I want to see my friends!"

What's in a name?

Earlier this week Thomas brought home an assignment to bring back to school, it was about their names...that got me thinking how did you come up with the names of your kids?

Allyson Paige: We choice the first letter of the alphabet, since Allyson was our first child, the first grandchild for both of our parents and the first great-grandchild. Paige became the middle name since that was one name we both agreed on right off the bat. So she became Allyson Paige.

Thomas Alan: Thomas was my maiden name, and I did not keep it, I kept my original middle name which is Maximo, after my father. When we found out that Thomas was a boy, Mark said that he did not want to have a junior, so we named him Thomas. Alan is Mark's middle name. So he became Thomas Alan.

So how did you come up with the names of your kids?
