One way to gauge the popularity of a site is to check its page rank. I normally use the alexa toolbar to find a page rank. Some page rank checker give the google page rank code to install on one's site. Many other page rank checker software monetise your site and one can gauge the popularity there.Just dont take the figures as gospel and one can do well to check page rank.

5 Simple Steps to Start Your Online Earnings

There are many roads that one can go through to start a great online career. Here's my experience of earning money online. This is just a starter guide for beginners on How to Earn Money Online or Earn Money from One's Blog.

Step # 1

Niche

Decide on a niche to write and concentrate on. Some examples are fashion, gadgets review, home decor, toys, etc etc. One can write on a broad range of topics but a niche will work better. I stress enough on its importance. It will make one an expert on various topics surrounding a smaller area. For example home decor can divert to interiors, examples of great interiors, indoor plants and their care, importance of colours, etc. All the while one will also be talking about a domain one loves.

Step # 2

Platform

Decide on a platform to write on. Platform means the place where one can start to provide content. there are many sites where one can create their own blog. I use Bloggers from Google and have not been able to get away from it. If one has serious content, it is better to get one's own domain or website and develop it. Wordpress too provides a great platform for blogging.

There are many google adsense sharing sites where one can provide content and the sites share their adsense revenue. For that one needs to create a google adsense account. Google adsense is the google ad network providing contextual ads (or ads related to the content, context) on the page.

The advantage of starting this way is that these sites already have a following and they take care of the basic maintenance and SEO. One just needs to write good content on a topic.

Step # 3

Publicise

There are simple tools one can use to publicise after one has put in content. Talk about your blog. Give the link at Facebook, use google plus, provide a link on our email id, etc etc These are just simple steps to start with for newbies. Facebook pages and FB ads are serious advertising tools now and will easily reach the targetted audience. But the problem with a serious audience is that they expect regular and unique content. Too much publicity at an early state of development can work negatively.

Step # 4

Monetise

The next step is to monetise one's blog/domain/content.

One can sign up for various ad networks which provide intext ads (like infolinks), contextual ads (like google adsense, chitika) or adcash, yahoo publisher networks.

Another way to earn serious money is to sign up as an affiliate. Amazon affiliate works well for starters.

If one decides to sell products as an affiliate sometime - a niche domain that already has a following will work sweetly. One can easily review products related to that domain for a great chance for sale and earn commission.

Step # 5

Doing too much

One would do better not to read too much material on how to make money online. They tend to confuse and pull one in different directions. It is always better to just start off with one system. After one is more familiar with the system and concept one can decide on the next step and do more literature search.

How to Find Your Keywords

The first thing to do before writing your blogs - ie, if you want to be read, if you are not using a marketing agency, if you are not getting professionally SEOed, if you are not syndicated, ie if you are just a simple blogger - is simple.

Find the terms people are searching for.

There are many freely available sites and pages dedicated for that. They will give you key words, search terms, phrases, most looked for, trends etc. So before writing that article or blog it makes sense to orient it towards what people are looking for. For example if your article is "how to diet" and you find that the most popular terms are " diet plans", "how to lose weight", "how to keep off weight" - you can use these terms in your Title or tweak the essay to address these issues.

Where to find the search terms?

Google Trends is the best place to get an updated list. Google adwords keywords tool is another useful resource. Go here http://soovle.com/top/ - for the top internet keywords for the day.

Blogging for Money - Various Ways

Blogging for money has come a long way since 2004 -05. While blogging for money paid rich dividends 7 - 8 years back - many layers has come into the simple process in the interim years.

Blogging for money is not just about finding a niche and putting useful posts at regular intervals - any longer. People made millions following that simple formula some years back. Now, the gaps are filled, more opportunities have arisen, more advertising money is being poured in, the audience is more targeted and the complications have risen manifold.

Content can be used to draw eyespace, bring readers and the same content can be used to market products, teach, engage - while the inline text can be used as spinoffs for further advertising. Job boards, forums, ebooks, courses, virtual products, videos, physical products can all be entwined with simple blogging to garner some dollars.

Blogging for Pennies Post Google Panda

As I trudge out of the Google Panda trap - it is time for me to take a closer look at my resources and objectives. I have been proud to call myself a (sort of) professional blogger the last few years. However lately I find myself looking at job ads more closely. So the need for a closer look. At whether one can still blog to make money post Google Panda?

Where has my money come from the past couple of years?

99% from Google adsense

99% of that from Xomba.com

I am going to look at the 1% figure more closely.

I have earned some dollars from Amazon.com. That is the (less than) 1% I have not earned from Google adsense. I feel that has been more by fluke than effort. However from notes from the numerous making money online sites that I visit - I find that Amazon is a substantial source of income. How is it so? Well effort, I guess.

My interest here is - can I make money from Amazon? Can I increase the 1% to lets say 10%? Of course. But again a professional effort is needed for that. The upshot is it can be done with the help of lots of effort but not necessarily any monetary investment. Lots of articles and reviews targeted for Christmas posted about yesterday. Does Blogger look askance at Amazon targeted posts? Dont think so. They have after all included Amazon in the "Monetise" section.

Now about adsense but non-Xomba income. Xomba is coming out of its hubpages, bookmarking hangover. But there still seems to be some confusion about where it is positioning itself. It touts itself as a writing community for geeks and fanboys...what is that? I have a lot of effort and sweat poured into Xomba these last 4 years. Just hoping it doesnt go waste. In the real world- if you have some experience at a company - you can carry that to the next job. In cyber world - i think you have to leave behind your CV and start anew. So more the reason to start your own blog! But of course I am too emotionally involved with Xomba to really leave the site. Its got a great community, some cool stuff in features - and Nick is a dear;-)

I have a few blogs around - and it is actually making me a few pennies EVERYDAY. I think that's important. I used to get a few pennies a month - a few months back. My income from Best - Reviewer has also picked up. However I am not sure of the commitment of the James guy towards the site. I mean he has a lot of big plans - so why wont he ditch the site midway and go onto something bigger? A pity, for it is a fun site.

Other sites I look at sometime - yousaytoo.com and shetoldme.com. Any other suggestions? Of course I must be registered at a dozen sites like infobarrell, hubpages, squidoo, triond, etc etc. Just no point spreading out so thin!

So what's plan A, B, C...?

Write original - no more posting the same thing at Xomba and on my blogs - no point
Take it seriously - while surreptitiously looking at job ads;-)

Why it should work?

The no. of people searching for stuff wont dwindle.
Advertisers cant afford not to use online ads
And you should be ready with stuff to be at the right place at the right time.
Right place and right time - still undefined - so make sure the stuff's good!

Has Google Panda been Successful?

From personal experience - I would say - YES! The party is over. Adsense money wont come easy. But if you are new to the internet writing - make money by online writing - breed, the news is good. The implementation of Google Panda must have thrown up so many orphaned keywords. All the keywords and SEOed content by content farms - would be working minimally. So just identify a niche - do some quality writing - and grab that space! There is money to be made out there. The good thing is trash, duplicate content - is not going to make that money.

For me it has been a very disappointing month at Xomba. Xomba has done a 360 degree turn. No writing for money. However, is there still money to be made at Xomba? I think so. Lists are all the rage. Xomba still gets good eyeballs - so if you write for Xomba - make use of lists and reviews. And wait.

$50000 Online in 2012 - A Dream or Reality?

I just read from a blog that the blogger made $50000 from writing online in 2010. I know people make much more than that too...

So is $50000 a year a dream in blogging for me? My income for the past 2 years has been around $12000 py on an average. $50000 is more than 4 times that. Can an "unprofessional" and "uncommitted" blogger like me make that kind of bucks, online?

I feel it is too late (already) in 2011 to keep a target of $50000. Maybe a $20000 target for this year will do. After all I also have to clear my CFA Level 1 this year.

So how about $ 50000 by 2013 end as also clearing all levels of CFA by June 2013.

Have you backlinked your blogs?

Ok -you have written a great post and have published it at Xomba or hubpages or your blog or anywhere. What do you do to get it backlinked?

I just realised that only very few of my posts are backlinked. On top of that came the realisation from blogspot stats that the majority of my reads for mylittlelogbook.blogspot.com comes from yousaytoo.com. Yousaytoo.com is a site that provides a platform to provide backlinks to your blog.

I also read at a forum on Hubpages that a member who gets around 20000 pageviews a day systematically bookmarks all his posts at xomba, snipsly, etc!

That really made me pause. All these news and information on top of each other must be providential. I have more than 9000 posts at Xomba. and some 90 odd posts at hubpages. Enough you say to be having 100000 page views a day! But I dont have even a tenth of that. As of yesterday - I have started the effort to link and bookmark my posts, blogs as much as possible. The effort is official now!

If you think all "make money from home" schemes are scams - think again. There are plenty of genuine websites out there where you can make money by writing. And you don't have to pay a cent - it is all for free! HubPages is one such site. Here is what the website says

The site has an Alexa ranking of #268 as of now. That is pretty high by any standards. What does this ranking mean? Alexa ranking can be taken to a kind of popularity meter on the search engines for a website.

I have known people on hubpages making more than a thousand bucks (usd) a month, every month - with just a few hundred published articles! To make money at Hubpages you need to have affiliate accounts. Hubpages guides you how to get affiliate accounts from Amazon, Google Adsense, Kontera, eBay etc. All you need to do is start writing.

How to have a hundred plus articles at hubpages? It is easier than you think. Write one article of at least 200 words every 3.65 days, create your hub, - and you have a 100 in a year. The more you write - the merrier. So if you love writing, there is no better way to make money from home. HubPages has a Thirty Days Challenge in which one is challenged to write 30 hubs in Thirty Day! Focus on a topic - try that - and you will see how the writing bug bites!

Starting a Blog on Making Money Online

Let me tell you this blog will be full of my ramblings. Mostly ramblings on making money online. A small introduction. I am a homemaker who spends most of her spare time online. Providentially, I came across a website some two years back which changed my life. The site is called Xomba. I could only give a couple of hours a day to the site - but I discovered a writing platform and a ready made community at Xomba. The Xomba community and its feedback, making money, seeing results for even simple posts - all combined to wean me away from playing online games!

Now, after two satisfying and lucrative years at Xomba - I am out to explore other online making money opportunities. Maybe I have even got the term wrong! I will learn. Couple of things I have learned in the past couple of years is - that perseverance pays and how! and one should not be afraid to experiment or be afraid of failure! So my ramblings here will be all over the net - as i take note, learn, share and get inputs from anyone who reads this blog.

When did I last post here? Long long back! Even though nothing much has happened in my life - Xomba has moved - really gone far far ahead!

In July 2009, Xomba revealed a cool new sophisticated face. From the old simple Xomba - the new design could rival any one the big publishers in sophistication!

What happened to its users? Did it affect them? I think i speak for many when I say - everything improved! ctr, clicks, more targeted viewers, no. of users, etc etc.

I will reveal my earnings at the end of this month. My earnings absolutely leapfrogged after the new faster site was launched!

One Year At Xomba

It is a year for me here. A year of discovery so to say! A year of around 6000 blurbs and 200 bytes. A year of reading, learning, writing and in the process meeting some great people. People who are interesting, funs, sensitive as also people who are controversial, biased or just judgmental. Diversity as it should be. It has been a glorious joyride. Staying up at nights, searching for stories, reading great stuff, working hard...all at Xomba. Moreover, it has all been immensely enjoyable except for a few rare occasions.

Xomba is evolving, fast and furious. So where will it be one year down the line... ten years down the line...

What do we have now? A social network with say 15000 members (sorry Nick, if I have got it wrong), an adsense sharing site where some members have made really big money, a portal with the latest news and in-depth reviews, lately a Xomba shop with special edition (sounds good) items and all these combined with Abmox and contests to keep even the dead interested! That’s a big deal to have achieved in a little over two years. One year from now… maybe we will have a fantasy league to draw in a more loyal sports crowd, a more evolved shop, some more in looks and features to rival the Big Ones and much more.

But ten years from now? Well, I see Xomba in the league of Google, Microsoft, Yahoo (as they are now; I don’t think these three will still be ruling the roost in a decade.) And why not? Our CEO is only twenty plus and has already shown tremendous vision and looks set to rule in the long run. Google started as “The Perfect Search Engine”, so will it be Xomba- “The Perfect Website” in a few years?

My First 2000 Dollars At Xomba - Where Else!

My earnings from Xomba reached 2000 dollars recently...and I think Xomba deserves a huge applause from me and an eulogy! How did it happen? I am as amazed as everyone else in my family...I mean getting cheques regularly from halfway around the World!

Xomba has truly made an immense difference in my life. I have discovered the art of writing. I wrote once before here that there's a writer in each one of us (though maybe not an editor!) Thanks to Xomba I am well upto date on whats happening in the World. I had forgotten to watch the News in the hectic business of looking after kids, making a career. But now I am upto date on the latest utterances by Obama Clinton McCain, Kenya, Iraq, Iran, Premier League, MLB. NFL, NBA, sub prime, consequences of smoking (;-)...so on and so forth...not to mention the latest releases in movies, albums! And I am earning money in the process.

* To be able to save unfinished posts so as to be able to edit at a later date!

Making Money On Xomba

I find that its been a tough last few days to make money on Xomba. So it has made me wonder if thats the case only with me or if its a general issue.

Could the reason be, there are more people posting blogs on Xomba? Of course it will be helpful for Xombaites in the long run. More postings->Quality Postings->More traffic to Xomba.
But if thats not the case? If its a case of more people writing for all sites...ie, internet users have become smarter and those who just surfed the net for fun, want a piece of action/money (like me)...and everyone's posting and there are fewer buyers...with economy as it is, that would make some sense, wouldn't it? If people can earn thousands of dollars online when jobs data looks scary, there will be more online bloggers just to make money..like in the real world when there are only sellers and few buyers...and like in the real world when that happens, there are hefty discounts!

So have I discovered why I am not making good money lately? Well I think its a combination of all the above factors (15%) but more to do with my laziness (85% reason), when I am only posting what everyone else is posting!!!

So you see its not easy making money...period. Online or offline.

How Much Adsense Earnings Can A Newbie Make on Xomba?

This is especially for all you newbies out there. I remember when I joined Xomba in September, I had absolutely no idea that there was money to be made online. I thought all these money making sites were just fairy tales.

First few days are bad... You are new and you still confuse between blurbs and bytes, your adsense earnings are miserly, you keep on posting what you think will get money, finally in desperation, sleazy stuff...you copy and paste a line or two for blurbs (because it does say that xomblurbs are for pointing out good stuff, and you think pasting a line or two is pointing - but plagiarization is plagiarization - 1 line or Ten lines!), Nick bans you, you curse...

Believe me, there is always a blending problem when you start any new job, Xomba is not any different!

If however, you survive all this you will find you have a crystallized view on how to make money on this site. See, through all these you have been writing, posting blurbs. You have posted, lets say, 20X10=200 interesting blurbs and maybe a few good bytes too in ten days. And suddenly your adsense account looks better. You are earning in dollars, not cents. A single good blurb/byte that catches fancy can make 2-3 dollars in a few hours! I had made 4 dollars on my fourth day at Xomba and I had never before written online. It takes 2 hours to post that 20 blurbs...and in 100 days you will have 2000 blurbs. That may easily give you an average earning of 10 dollars a day! Just dont lets bad spellings, insipid content spoil the party! So, its not bad you see - 3rd month and you are making $ 300 a month! Yes as a newbie you can easily get that...and it will be worth the effort...

Its only my 5th month online, I dont know where my online earnings are headed from here, but I am surely enjoying it! And am striving to reach that $1000 a month...maybe next month?

Xomba Experience

When my cousin inroduced me to Xomba, I admit I was skeptical. In fact I remember asking her to put money in stocks to get some extra income because "that was the only way one could make money" working for oneself! She had retorted "thats the only way maybe you know!"...I was well and truly skeptical like I said!...Anyways I spent 12 hours a day online, trading in the share market and chatting, so I decided to check Xomba out. The first few days were disappointing. It took ages to reach the first $50 when I could apply for the pin...then things happened very very fast and I had reached $300 plus dollars before the pin reached. I have not looked back since...

Some useful tips ...

- Read the rules / regulations...Its a MUST
