No need to plead with the so-called guardians of our society and country. Are they any cleaner than the ones they accuse?

Babri Masjid, Tehalka and other incidents have proved it time and again that; they will do anything to fulfill their personal agendas even at the risk of compromising the peace and security of the country and its citizens. Then how can they be allowed to raise their voice against something like the “Salman Tapes”, the authenticity of which has not at all been established as yet.

The politicians talk about the safety and security of the country and her citizens, while they are instrumental themselves in creating an unsafe and insecure atmosphere for everyone at the drop of the hat.

The TV channel, which acted so irresponsibly by raking the issue in such a manner, also interviewed many common citizens for their reaction to the tapes. Each and every person interviewed expressed the feeling that the authenticity of the tapes should first be verified before we can put blames on the people named, and then too there are proper actions which could be taken.

But how could these politicians pass over such a golden opportunity to ensure the safety and security of the common citizens of the country, even if it meant loss of property, deserved profits, or life itself, for some of the very same citizens?

After all they are our guardians, moral and ethical.

It’s about time there was a concerted effort by one and all to help dissipate the anger, animosity and the mistaken ideologies, which result in these wanton activities causing so much destruction of not only valuable public properties but the more valuable human lives, not to mention the incalculable grief that the acts bestow upon the survivors, who are effected either directly or indirectly through the loss of near and dear ones.

The political leadership, when they are not embroiled in politicizing the event in order to get more mileage for themselves, might be making proactive efforts but it is more necessary, that we the people, try in our own ways and to our own best capabilities to create and promote a sense of ‘Universal Brotherhood’ sans religion, caste, creed et al.

Since we are filmmakers it is but natural that our efforts, if any, towards this objective, would be through films.

In my opinion, stories of normal people with simple aspirations whose lives are thrown asunder due to terrorism, stories which show the futility and viciousness of violence specifically terrorism, stories which not only touch but jolt the emotions of the viewers and fill their hearts with compassion for the sufferers, would be quite effective in creating a movement against terrorism, hopefully amongst even those misguided youths who are drawn into it by a handful of selfishly motivated individuals.

I intend to do my bit towards this endeavor and I know it cannot be done alone, so I am calling for all like-minded creators to step up and join me in either or all of the following…

1) Coming up with stories and scripts aimed at promoting ‘Universal Brotherhood’ specifically against violence and terrorism.

2) Zeroing in on distribution avenues and channels, where the deciding factor should be to reach these films to the maximum of viewers, preferably to each and every household and not profit.

3) Finding out ways and means of garnering the funds to achieve the goal.

4) Making of the films in the most effective manner and promoting them through all means available. (To begin with, short films would be more practical)

This will not take us away from our other commitments and assignments but will require only diverting some of our time towards it.
