Grads of 2010

2010-06-16T17:15:00.000-07:00

We've been neglecting the concert photos for a while - in fact, we've been neglecting this blog for a while... While there should never be excuses, we have good reason. We've been busy trying to enjoy, survive and get through our last weeks as high school students. While it has been exciting, overwhelming and a little confusing at times, we made it to our Graduation Ceremony. Here are a few photos from the night.

Clear skies and beautiful weather made photo-taking possible!

After five years of passing "Staff Only" signs, here, we finally get a "Grads Only" entrance :)

Mr. Gary Little, our Associate Superintendent, and Mr. A. Pirie, an awesome and hardworking teacher who is seen here organizing grad awards with a broken hand!

All eyes are on the grads...

Here we have, from left to right: Ms. L. Buteau, Ms. F. Ziakos, Ms. M. Densford, Mr. B. Stephenson, Mr. J. McGillivray, Mr. J. Nakamoto, Dr. G. Gabbott, Mr. C. Larouche and Mr. R. Manhas.

Here we have our Principal, Mr. A. Krawczyk, awaiting the grads.

As always, the calm precedes the storm that must surely follow, so here is the scramble as the grads, restless after 2 hours and 45 minutes of awards, get up to leave.

And just like that, it was over.

More Weather

2010-05-04T18:22:00.001-07:00

Just some photographs I took of the weather in Vancouver. This is just a random update while I try to get a video from the Gimme da Beat presentation up :O excited for that? You'd better be.

This ones not really about the weather. I just thought it looked kind of neat, its like a showdown between the Trees and the Houses. I wonder who will win?

This one is about the weather. What a contrast?

And one more, because the sky ~~was~~ is beautiful.

Blue Skies and a Left Lane Flyer

2010-04-30T23:01:00.001-07:00

Here is the plane I saw this morning. It was going around and around in circles above the Langara Golf Course. My theory is that the pilot-in-training has yet to learn how to turn right.

This is my contribution to the photographs of sunny skies and trees :)

And this is just to show you what happens when you walk and take pictures at the same time!

My, what a nice day it is!

2010-04-27T18:12:00.001-07:00

Here's a Black and White one... just for you, J!

It's purdy.

So greeen.

Oh, here comes the sun! Hoorah!

Yeah, not a very interesting post, but it will do for now.

Saturday partie deux!

2010-04-04T18:48:00.000-07:00

Naturally, after all that hard work colouring, we were hungry. So we made some lemon cake with lemon glaze to eat!

After running to the store for some sugar, we started beating the ingredients together.

This is what you get...

then you put it in the oven!

This is what it looks like when its ready...

then you drizzle some lemon glaze on top :)

Eat it whenever you want and however you like it :)

(It tastes good with vanilla ice cream!)

If you would like the recipe for this cake, leave a comment below and we'll work on it :)

After making the delicious lemon cake, we had to think about dinner.
( yes, you can have dessert before dinner, and again after if you wish!)

If you ever want an easy alternative to ordering a pizza, just take a frozen cheese pizza and add your own toppings!

Like so:Cookin in the oven!

C'est fini! Nom nom nom.

This, my friends, is what you do on a Saturday...

2010-04-04T16:18:00.000-07:00

First stop, to the animals shelter! Meet our furry little friends. Confined or free, they're all ready to love and be loved :)

Meet Donny, he's one of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet!

This is Tippy, he likes his own space and you can tell that he's been through a lot from his ears, but he's really nice if you get to know him.

This one likes to get up close to cuddle :)

If you find the right spot to scratch, Emma will love you for life!

Casey likes to spend his time up top, taking naps and chillin out in his basket, but he's never too sleepy to miss a treat!

These cats love watching the people outside their room just as much as we like to see them.

This kitty is waiting for his new owner to come...
Will it be you?

This famous cat at the animal shelter will only drink fresh water from the tap!

This is one of the adorable new kittens.

Of course the animal shelter doesn't just have cats. Here is one of the many bunnies they have.

And this is one of the tiny hamsters.

Check back next week for photos of the dogs!

All of these photographs were taken at the Richmond Animal Protection Society, a no-kill shelter that is run by volunteers every morning from 9-12am, and open to public after noon.

After a long morning of cleaning and cuddling, we headed home or to S's home anyway, and while we were walking, we encountered a box of free crayons! Our method of division was to throw three crayons of similar colours and take the one that landed closest to you.

These are all the new colours I got!

Wouldn't you agree...

comics are much better in colour?

Spontaneous bowling adventures

2010-04-04T14:59:00.000-07:00

We went bowling on Wednesday, after school.
After deciding against the sketchy billiards place, we lost a couple of people and made our way across town to a bowling joint.

Our awesome choice of names ( which changed many times throughout the game)

If you ever have a craving for socks, have no fear. This vending machine is well-equipped.

Fun times.

Welcome!

2010-04-01T16:45:00.000-07:00

...or welcome back :)
Whichever it may be, thank you for visiting! I have nothing to say today but I hope you all had a fun April Fool's day pulling plenty of pranks.

More pictures are coming including one (hopefully) of the prank we pulled on S today :)

Be sure to check back later tonight or tomorrow for pictures from the MUSE concert in T-2 hours!

Movie: AVATAR!!!!!!!!!

2010-01-06T19:55:00.000-08:00

So good.
So mind blowing.
MUST-SEE
There may have been subliminal messages in it telling me to think this, seeing as it made
$ 800 000 in its first week....
but...
STILL
the visuals........
WAOW.
See it.
Now.
Go on,
RUN!

Word of the Week: akimbo

2009-12-16T17:59:00.000-08:00

akimbo: If you stand arms akimbo or with arms akimbo, you stand with your hands on your hips and your elbows pointing outwards

Movie: GODZILLA

2009-12-01T20:16:00.000-08:00

Rating: Hmm, I can't decide. It was the longest movie ever, which is bad when you're trying to do homework, but also good when you're trying to avoid homework. It was pretty predictable, but that might have had something to do with the fact that I already knew the story. Either way, it was a pretty good movie. I watched the one from 1998 by the way. It felt like an old movie to me, which is pretty sad since that wasn't all too long ago :S Some of the scenes reminded me of Jurassic Park... Anyway, I think it would be fun to watch the super old Godzilla from 1954? It might be even more fun to watch it in Japanese :) That shall be my goal... eventually

Book: Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Andersen

2009-11-01T17:10:00.001-08:00

Rating: 4/5 stars

Follows the story of a teenage girl who has recently lost her best friend.

I liked this book, but I don't know about the ending. It sounded too easy. Anyways, I think Andersen made some really good points in here during the main character's rants about her eating disorder, self-harm, etc. I also thought that Andersen really dug deep to create this character and readers will find it really easy to get caught up in her story. I would recommend it:)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

2009-10-12T12:59:00.000-07:00

I can smell the food. So hungry.
I made vegetarian stuffing this morning. That should be interesting.
I also helped make pumpkin pie.
NOM NOM NOM.

HAPPY EATING!

Movie: Gran Torino

2009-09-26T11:25:00.000-07:00

Rating: 5/5 stars

Clint Eastwood stars in this movie about changing neighbourhoods in which gangs are very present.

I know this movie got a lot of hype, and I think it deserved it. It had a pretty simple plot but it told a great, but sad, story. I cried during one scene (I know, I cry too much at movies) because it was so devastating to all the characters. I thought it was pretty intense, and it is definitely worth watching, but be forewarned, it is depressing.

Movie: Julie Johnson

2009-09-26T11:20:00.000-07:00

Rating: 2/5 stars

Set in New Jersey, a high school drop out with two children decides to go back to high school.

The movie was pretty good, except there is so much more to the plot. It was almost too much. Not only does she kick out her husband and therefore has no money to go back to school, she turns out to be a lesbian, and then she's a computer genius....It was certainly interesting, and the acting was believable, but the plot line was so random.

Movie: Sunshine Cleaning

2009-09-17T18:21:00.000-07:00

Rating: 2/5 stars

A woman trying to support her son learns that big money can be made by cleaning up after crime scenes.

I thought it was okay, but it was missing something. It touched upon some important messages about life and personality, but I felt that it didn't share anything profound. Maybe this is too much to ask from a movie today, because you don't often see it. There were some funny moments too, and the acting was great!

Movie: Chapter 27

2009-09-17T18:16:00.000-07:00

Rating: 4/5 stars

The true story of the assassination of John Lennon by Mark David Chapman.

Jared Leto is in this movie. Normally that would warrant it a 5/5 right there, but he doesn't really look like himself in this one. haha I thought Chapman's story is really interesting, even if it does seem a little twisted. I also like the allusions to "The Catcher in the Rye". It's worth watching. It was a lot better than I expected!

Movie: Lakeview Terrace

2009-09-17T18:10:00.000-07:00

Rating: 1.5/5 stars

A young couple move in next door to a strict police man. They soon run into some trouble.

I don't know how else to summarize it, but yes it was as lame as it sounds. I think they tried to give it some sort of message against racism, but it didn't really come off that way. I didn't really like it, but the actors were pretty talented. It wasn't suspenseful, but they did try.

PS. sorry for the lame reviews....but they're fun to write when I have nothing better to do...which is most of the time:) haha
