The Glorious Wonder of Toilet Tissue

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 09 May 2016 20:00:00 +0000

In the 1950s, housewives suddenly become

enamored with the very sight of Toilet Tissue.

Let us examine the reasons why ....

"I can count on you to be here ... to gaze upon, to talk with, to hold and to caress"

"Your smooth texture is the only thing that has replaced my loneliness for my husbands touch ... "

"I bow to you every morning, and match my clothes to you thusly, for you give me the strength not to run into oncoming traffic ..."

"..... you absorb our tears of desperation and longing"

"You help us judge our peers by your softness and absorbency"

"... for you are the very inspiration that motivates me to get dressed everyday .... "

".... I have no friends"

Well, it all makes sense now ... doesn't it?

Regards, KB

WELCOME TO MY HOME .... AT KITSCHMAS!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 20 Dec 2010 17:22:00 +0000

Hello, my darlings! It’s that time when friends and family stop by to share in the holiday cheer and that means you and your home must look its best. Here is how I keep festive during the season!

AT THE BREAK OF DAY!
In the morning, I ready myself for the early birds that may stop by decorating the den with a simple yet modern ornament display and dress smart yet casual in pedal pushers, turtle neck and ballet slippers! Audrey Hepburn, eat your heart out!

RIBBON TREE!

Turn the ordinary into extraordinary … guests swoon over the coffee table / ribbon kitschmas tree! Perhaps not practical but Kitschmas is not for utilitarians!

KITSCHMAS GIFT QUICKIES!

Like the Boy Scouts, I'm always be prepared! For those long lost relatives and friends that may stop by unexpectedly, I try to make them feel special! I simply raid the junk drawer and find lovely little bobbles to wrap and have them ready on a lovely decorated gift table! DON'T OPEN TIL KITSCHMAS!

MID-DAY SWITCH-A-ROO!

I'm always ready for noon-time passers-by! I simply change out of those capris and into a more luncheon friendly skirt! Decorate the den by adding a chinese latern to my ornament display and roll in the larger television set so my guests and I can watch the mid-day soap operas and chat about the days goings-on.

DECORATIONS GALORE!

My decor is not limited to the interior or the front of my house! I dress the swimming pool in the season's best! My guests gasp with delight at the sight of a Cotton Candy Kitschmas with sleigh and reindeer floating and festooned in pink toule and pink cotton batting! Swimmingly Sweet!

COCKTAIL TIME!

The late-night gang will be stopping by at the cocktail hour! I change into a more festive skirt and shoes. I simply roll the smaller television set back in and festoon the larger televison cabinet with a tablecloth and sparkley garland! I ready the eggnog and jello molds, then hide the daytime decorations and lampshades! The night-time pals can cause quite a ruckus! But I do provide a lute to accompany the evening's caroling!

EVERYTHING MUST COME TO AN END!

I hope you all enjoyed the tips and enjoyed the cocktails but alas, the celebrating must come to an end ... until tomorrow! DON'T FORGET THESE HOLIDAY CAPS I MADE .... AND ....

.... AND YOUR NEW CADILLAC CAR!

and they think Oprah started that ... harumph!

WISHING YOU AND YOURS A VERY MERRY KITSCHMAS, my darlings!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 22 Nov 2010 16:08:00 +0000

It's that time again when the family gathers to give thanks for all that we have. But the pièce de résistance is the Thanksgiving meal , when we can show off our cooking skills and become the talk of the neighborhood. Let's take a look at how we can make this Thanksgiving more incredible than ever!

MAKE A TASTY AND MEMORABLE TURKEY!

Make your bird more flavorful and succulent! Place a skinless frankfurter under the skin of Tom Turkey ... the smoked flavors and nitrates will infuse the meat and keep it fresher, longer. And the children will be dazzled!

KEEP THAT FLAVOR PROFILE GOING ....

Here is a lovely stuffing to match the flavor profile of this FABULOUS turkey. Simply take the usual stuffing recipe, then add wieners, top with pickles and bake! OR stuff that mix in that dirty bird! *winks*

DON'T FORGET THE FIXIN's!

A lovely veggie loaf with keep the festivities awe inspiring! Cook any vegetable you have on hand shape into a loaf .... Festoon the loaf with a beautiful ring of mashed potatoes and broccoli. Add halved apples decorated with jelled canned cranberry cut in a turkey shape! MAGNIFICENT!

HAVE PLENTY OF FINGER FOOD!

While waiting for your FABULOUS spread, have plenty of Hors d'oeuvres! Here's a delightful way to serve dates. Simply stuff them with either cheese, coconut or peanut butter. The children will think they are eating candy and keeping them quiet in the process!

KEEP LEFTOVERS REFRIGERATED!

What a novel idea! Did you notice your guests going A-wall for weeks after your last Thanksgiving leftover luncheon? Here is a new way to keep that tummy in check! REFRIGERATION! Compare to the usual leftover, left out in the open for 4 days !

MAKE YOUR LEFTOVERS SING!

... with jello! ...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, my kittens!

THE KITSCH BITSCH CHARM & BEAUTY SCHOOL ... VOL. 1

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 15 Nov 2010 17:08:00 +0000

Oh Ladies, you know how hard it is to stay in proper form and poise. I hope these little tricks will help you in your day to day regime to find perfection and beauty ....

1. ACHEIVE BEAUTY

... by "doing" things! Learn to be cheerful, have perfect posture and carriage, as well as, achieve perfect social poise! With these assets you can acheive greatness and be the envy of all your peers!

2. FALL ELEGANTLY

yes .... This does happen from time to time, but if you must fall, fall elegantly. Consider yourself a rag doll, fall to the knees first whilst delicately raising the arms with the hands beautifully poised ... next to to the hip ... then to the floor, always keeping hands in check. Pinkies up, darlings! Next, await the assistance of a nearby male ... shoo away any women that might want to render aide.

3. ACQUIRE A MINI-GYM

This complete all-around home exerciser will keep you in perfect form the year round! LADIES, please dress appropriately and wear high heels while conditioning your body. The more you wear your dress shoes the more elegant your gait will become.

4. FLEX THAT FACE

Yes, Ladies ... the face needs to be conditioned, as well as the body! Noone will want to give you a second glance if the face doesn't match what's below. Follow these facial expressions in th following order:

1. The "I've been constipated for weeks" look 2. The "I can't fit that in my mouth" look 3. The "O NO U DINT" look 4.The "Is that 5 carats?" look 5. The "I don't buy knock-offs" look 6. The "GobbleWobbler Call" 7. The "Those don't look real" look 8. The "I don't swallow" look

Remember, ladies, practice makes perfect!

5. LEARN TO SIT

Don't be a twisted-slumpy-slouch, like the gal on the left ... Remember the falling exercise earlier? The gal on the left is demonstrating how difficult sitting down can actually be ... this will NEVER do! The lady on the right is demonstatrating how to gently glide into a chair with elegance and ease! This may take several hours of practice, so be plan accordingly before an event. First, lower down, guiding yourself with the back leg, always keeping the right leg slightly crossed in front making sure not to expose the goodies. Next, slide effortlessly back into the seat in one continous motion, while keeping those legs closed! Lastly, cross the legs at the ankle while keeping toes pointed and gently lay the hands crossed in the lap, while keeping the back straight and shoulders down. It can be quite difficult but well worth the practice when you see the attention you will acquire!

6. HAVE LOVELY HANDS

Don't ruin a perfectly good cocktail and embarrass others with the an awkward gorilla claw clench!!! Gently cradle the glass as if you were cradling a baby bird ... after all, good alcohol is expensive!

KILLER CLOWNS FROM MADISON AVENUE

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 25 Mar 2010 19:05:00 +0000

Coulrophobia is abnormal or exaggerated fear of clowns ... where did it come from? Why do so many of us have such an intense aversion to these circus performers that were intended to bring joy? Was it the movie "Killer Clowns from Outer Space"? ... "Poltergeist"? ... or did it generate from the gin-soaked, smoke-filled board rooms on Madison Avenue? I believe it's the latter.

Let's take a look back at what ad executives dreamt up to cause lifelong nightmares for John Q. Public.

American Cynamid Co. (circa. 1940's)

His face could tell a fortune that lead based cosmetics will forever change our lives! FOREVER!

Camel Cigarettes (1964)

Have you noticed that clowns seem to be the ominous admen of future deadly diseases?

Kool-Aid (1956)

Red Dye #5, anyone?

Van de Camps Pork and Beans (1947)

Eat your Pork 'N' Beans or DIE!

Kellogg's Sugar Smacks (1955)

Sugar Toasted Puffs of Wheat that will give you tasty reoccuring nightmares!

Polaroid (1967)

Jimmy? There were NO clowns when I took the picture!!

Schlitz Beer (date unknown)

Tip of the Day: Never let your clown run out of beer ... the consequences could be deadly!

SWEET DREAMS!!!

In the 1950's, 60's & 70's family vacations were all the rage. Taking two weeks off from work piled in the car to discover America's hidden gems with only the AAA destination guide to steer us! Sitting in the middle between my two older brothers in a hot sticky car didn't deter my wonder of the unknown ... just knowing we would stop at Stuckey's to get a pecan log kept me from whining! Here are just a few hidden gems I unearthed from our many vacation stops!

I don't know why the Holiday Inn Stationary was sanitized for our protection, but by god ... IT WAS ... and we liked it that way!

I never knew Michigan had so many family destinations ... but apparently we saw them ALL!

oooo ... KITCH-ITI-KI-PI ... my fave! (can't imagine why!)

Lovely diner placemats from Niagra Falls.... how utterly Kitsch!

The Soo Locks of Michigan ... thank heaven I don't remember THIS vacation!

We must have upgraded to Best Westerns!

What's For Dinner?

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 02 Nov 2009 19:41:00 +0000

The Kitsch Bitsch does Boston!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Mon, 31 Aug 2009 18:51:00 +0000

My visit to Boston was both personal & professional ... One, taking my only child & son to School at The Boston Conservatory & Two, finding kool & kitschy places for The Kitsch Bitsch to blog about and drool over! Both were acheived with flying colors, although I do wish I had more time in Boston. (There's always next time!)

First stop after a quick lunch on Newbury Street, I HAD to stop at Johnny Cupcakes!!! If any of you don't know "Johnny Cupcakes" you must go to his website and read his story at http://www.johnnycupcakes.com/. His story is an inspiration to ALL graphic designers everywhere! Cute stores that look like bakeries, glass refrigerators and bakery cases display the tee's ... incredibley creative and FUN!

Another FUN stop was "KINGS" ... In the Back Bay area of Boston and right next to the Back Bay Hilton, was this retro-riffic Bowling Alley / Diner / Pool Hall! Everywhere you turned was a great example of vintage typography, images and design. This Bitsch was in Kitsch Heaven! I think my fave was the floor design with bowling ball and pins. Every element was carefully thought out. AND the food was GREAT! Who would have thought one of our best meals in Boston would be at a bowling alley?

Although my search for a great vegetarian chowdahhhhh was in vain, we did find a great Italian restaurant in the North End called "Bricco". The foccacia was INCREDIBLE and the fried zucchini flowers were well ... "heaven". So "all in all" our four days in Boston where great ... moving my son in to his dorm and saying goodbye was tough but I know he will do great living in such a creative and fun town like Bahhhhston! My boy has been raised The Kitsch Bitsch so it will be no surprise when pics of retro signs and designs come pouring into my inbox! Hopefully our next trip will be less hectic and I can spend more time "Kitsching"!

Obsessive Compulsive Retro Vintage Disorder

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Thu, 13 Aug 2009 18:29:00 +0000

I have a problem ... well, I don't see it as a problem. The "problem" Obsessive Compulsive Retro Vintage Disorder or OCRVD. Everywhere I go I must pick up a pictures, chachskies, magazines, etc... any lil bit of mid 20th century kitsch I can find!

First Pic : My guest bathroom dedicated to pulp western comic book covers, western art and pics. A bit much? At least it gives one something to look at while doing one's business!

Second Pic: In my "kitschen". Dedicated to mid-century food advertising and items. 1950's glass juicers, modern spices with a retro design. It is rather bright and cheery!

Third Pic: More retro advertising. The GREAT Black & White Scotch Ad & Barts vintage wooden soda box! I could go on and on ... this is just a small example of my OCRVD ... I pray there is NEVER a cure.

Can this Bitsch get anymore Kitsch?

God I hope so!

From Where I Work ... EVERYDAY!

noreply@blogger.com (Anonymous) — Fri, 24 Jul 2009 20:44:00 +0000

YES, my friends ... this is the rat's nest from which I design, work and sometimes play. It is full of thngs meant to inspire and distract depending on my mood. The travelocity gnome to fullfill the Kitsch

and to rub his belly when I need a vacation. Dont forget the MOST important item on the table ... a giant 52oz. "Bubba Keg" of liquid heaven that is Tazo Black Iced Tea ...

Vintage Advertising....

And YES! A stack of wonderful smelling soaps from my friend Rick!!! He and his sister have a great company called Soap Sisters! http://www.soapsistersonline.com/ ... check'em out! I know he would rather me use the soap but they smell so good and pick me up when my creativity is waning! And look there is Paul Giamatti staring at me from the back of Nigel Parry's book "BLUNT". He seems to be sayin "Hey, Kitschy! Whatcha designin' today?" Well thats the tour ... I hope you all enjoyed and COME AGAIN!
