Fantastic TV for loft5
The quality of this TV has exceeded our expectations. Picture and sound are fantastic! We originally purchased this TV exclusively for gaming in our loft. We are so pleased with it that we are now actually finding ourselves in there for movies and football. There are so many hookups in the back that we are able to leave the game box, DVD player and satellite box all hooked up at the same time - so no annoying changing out boxes depending on the activity. The 37" is a perfect size for a smaller room like a loft, we find it is substantial enough without completely overwhelming the space.

wall using Peerless PA740 articulating wall mount. The picture quality, after some fine tuning is very good. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rank it at a "7" when compared to my 50" Panny plasma that would rate at a "9".

The TV was delivered on time but the outer box had a 4" hole with the popcorn packing visible. Luckily the TV was double boxed & the original inner box was not damaged. I made sure of this before signing off on the delivery confirmation.

EXCELLENT VALUE...5
So I helped my friend shop for a 37 inch tv for her living room and steered her toward the Toshiba, since I have the 32 inch version. It's got good blacks, better than everage. Excellent whites, as most LCD'S have. Handles motion very well despite not having 120 refresh rate. Does a good job with 3:2 pulldown and 24fps, although you have to turn that feature on, which is the cinema mode turned to film. Viewing angle isn't too great, but then again no lcd is. Once you get 14 degrees off-axis you lose 50% of the picture's contrast. Reflections aren't too bad with this Toshiba. Color accuracy isn't too bad but there is a green push which picture menu allows you to correct. The audio is also very very good, except you get a little vibration with certain dialog with the bass turned all the way up. The remote is excellent and is very user friendly. The menu system is very simple and easy to navigate. Overall, this is a great value. Sure you will get a better tv with either the Samsung or the Sony, but you will pay more. It does outperform the LG,Sharp, and the Panny in most areas. At the price you can grab this for it's hard to turn down. Here are calibrated settings for this tv.

Coming from a troubled Nvidia 8600M GT MacBook Pro - let me say that I was very skeptical buying another Apple Laptop with nVidia chip in it.

However, one weekend I decided to visit the nearest Apple Retail Store and check out the newly released models. My decision was mostly influenced by the reduced prices and increased battery life.

After some debating over buying the older model for same price or getting the latest one we settled on the newest mid end $1999 model with 2 GPUs. As is common I got a very nice resale price for my older MacBook Pro as it had AppleCare.

This generation is an all around improvement over the past generation unless you happen to be using ExpressCard on 15" model that is. In our case we never used the ExpressCard after attempting to use a eSATA card that did not work really well. And we have a few SD Cards that we figure we can easily use.

So on to the specific improvements over its predecessor -
1) Battery Life - I was very doubtful that the battery would last any longer than 4 hours at the maximum but was pleasantly surprised to find that for surfing/email type and the occasional CNN/Youtube flash videos getting 6+ hours was quite easy.

2) Prices - No doubt prices are the most reasonable Apple laptops have ever had. If you have no need for the dual GPU you can get the $1699 model which comes with a respectable 2.53Ghz Processor, 4GB RAM and a very capable 9400M GPU.

3) Operating Temperature - I have owned my share of laptops (Apple and non-Apple) and I have to say this one is the coolest - it never gets too warm and I can use it on my lap all the times - even encoding videos using the HandBrake application did not make it uncomfortably hot. However if I switch it to use the 9600M GPU it gets warmer even on regular use. It also runs very quiet - the fans may be coming on but I never notice.

Initially there was a lot of furor over Apple's downgrade of the Serial-ATA interface speed (used to transfer data to and from the hard disk) to 1.5Gbps but Apple quickly restored the speeds to 3Gbps - I do not however notice any difference with the 5400RPM hard disk.

Nokia Gives Navigation App for Free

Nokia has just announced that they will be providing its very own navigation app for free, making the likes of Garmin and TomTom run for their money.

But unlike the GPS navigation on the iPhone, which leaves you at the mercy of your cell signal, the Ovi Maps function just like a standalone GPS. Maps are preloaded on the phone and are saved there forever. So in case you get lost and so is the signal, you can retrieve the map right from the phone.

The Ovi Maps can also support AGPS, so you get driving and walking directions, as well as guides from Michelin and Lonely Planet. With this app, your phone can also receive weather updates and desktop software that would manage and search routes. All of these can also be accessed even while offline.

Owners of Nokia smartphones can download the app today the Ovi store, we repeat, for free. Do note, however, that not all models are supported.

Nokia’s own headline sums this story up pretty well: “Navigation on your Nokia. For free. Forever.”

That’s right. If anyone thought that Garmin, TomTom and any other standalone GPS makers were already in trouble after Apple allowed turn-by-turn navigation on the iPhone, now the world’s No. 1 phone maker is giving away a full suite for any compatible Nokia handset, anywhere in the world. Vizio Enters Mobile TV Market, Introduces Three Products

Mobile TV is finally coming to the United States and Vizio is determined to dominate this new market by introducing not one, but three new handheld LED devices. These three new Razor LED models are measured less than one inch of thickness and can operate on both NTSC and ATSC mobile/ handheld platforms.
The Vizio VMB070 (pictured) has a seven-inch LED backlit screen with 800 x 480 resolution and 250 nits of brightness power. Its sleek design contains no obvious buttons, but the touch-sensitive controls light up when it senses the user's hand approaching. It also has a flush antenna that can be propped up for better reception, an auxiliary audio and video inputs for use with a DVD player, and a headphone jack for a more private listening. Battery life can last for up to three hours.
Meanwhile, the nine-inch Vizio VMB090 and 10.2-inch VMB100 can also receive broadcast signals through a newly-developed ATSC-MH format. Both of its LED LCD panels have a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and a brightness level of 350 nits. Like the VMB070, they have touch-sensitive controls that go well with the sleek design. They also have an extendable internal antenna, HDMI 1.4 jack apart from the video and stereo audio inputs, a USB 2.0 port, and a headphone jack.
The Vizio mobile TV devices will be available within this year, with the 7-inch version costing US$149, the 9-inch version at $199, and the 10-inch version will go for $229.

LG Unveils World's First Full HD 3D Projector

LG has recently unveiled the world's first full HD 3D projector. LG has presented the CF3D which is the world's first single lens type 3D projector at the CES 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada. This projector may be able to provide a more life-like viewing experience to the user and the first projector to render a 3D image from just a single lens unit.
The LG CF3D projector features a brightness rating of 2,500 ANSI-lumens and a high contrast ratio of 7,000:1. It is also equipped with TruMotion 120Hz, a technology that is previously seen only in flat panel HDTV's. The LG CF3D also features both Dual Engine and 3D Calibration technology at Full HD 1080p outputs. This helps ensure that images are displayed as naturally as possible. The new LG CF3D Full HD 3D projector is set to be on sale sometime in May 2010 and is expected to cost around US$10,000.
