Cyber Terror Is the New Language of War

Last year, cyber terrorists used a deadly virus to attack the information network of Aramco, the Saudi oil company, and annihilated all of the data on 35,000 desktop computers. The screens of the infected computers were left with the vision of a burning American flag. A group called the Cutting Sword of Justice claimed credit for the attack.

Two months ago, computer hackers hacked the Twitter account of The Associated Press and sent a tweet stating that there had been two explosions at the White House and that President Barack Obama was injured. Within two minutes, the stock market dropped by 143 points. The Syrian Electronic Army later claimed credit for the attack.

Hardly a day passes without reading or hearing about another cyber attack against some target in the United States.

Cyber terror is now the new language of war that we understand only vaguely. We know that more and more of our daily lives revolve around a digital world on the Internet, our computers and our cell phones. We expect that the providers who sell us those digital services are taking steps to protect it against cyber attacks and we expect the government is doing the same. But, experts warn us now that real danger is just around the corner if our government and businesses are not able to create a strong defense against cyber attacks.

How dangerous could these cyber attacks be? Consider what might happen if our water supply, our electric grid, or the Internet was successfully shut down by a cyber attack.

Former CIA director and U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta recently warned that the next Pearl Harbor might be from cyber-terrorists.

A new novel I've just co-authored with David Hagberg titled Gridlock is a story about a computer virus created in Russia, stolen by the Iranians and used to shut down the electric power grid in the U.S. It causes chaos, loss of life, and brings our economy to its knees... all done by an enemy we can't see using digital weapons rather than firearms.

Our book is fiction, but that scenario and many others now constitute real and serious threats to our country every day. Those threats are to our personal identity, our bank accounts and the information we store on our computers. Most importantly, the threats are to our country and the vital services and national security interests that are essential to the functioning of our economy.

While serving in the U.S. Senate, my colleagues and I began hearing from federal agencies and corporations who were being constantly attacked by viruses designed to do harm.

Across the country, in national security agencies, national laboratories and other areas, our government and private corporations are working to protect us against cyber attacks. The president has issued a strong warning against countries that are allowing, in some cases even sponsoring, cyber attacks in the U.S. and he recently signed an executive order to strengthen the nation's cyber security protections. Congress is also working on cyber security legislation.

It is certain that those who wish America ill will continue these attacks. Our new novel describes a scenario of what could happen if we don't take these new cyber-terror threats seriously. But if we understand the threat and work hard with the best and brightest in the public and private sectors, we can successfully defend America and its citizens against this new weapon used by terrorists.

The Moto G is a plastic phone, with a curved back

The back is smooth and comfy, and as the 4.5-

array of available body shells.

Micromax Plans to Launch Dual-Boot 'Laptab'

Indian smartphone maker Micromax's dual-operating system tablet Laptab will be priced under USD 500 (about Rs 30,000) and will be available in the domestic market next month.

Its latest offering, which runs on both Windows 8 and Android 4.2.2 JellyBean, was unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2014 here.

"The Laptab will be priced under USD 500 for the Indian market and we expect to sell about 100,000 units in the domestic market in the first half of 2014," Micromax Co-founder Rahul Sharma said.

The Intel-powered LapTab is the first dual-boot Windows and Android tablet and is designed for multitasking across operating platforms.

Users need to reboot the device to switch from Windows to Android and vice versa, he added.

On technical specifications of of the tablet, Micromax Chief Marketing Officer Shubhodip Pal said it is powered by 1.46GHz Intel Celeron processor and has a 10.1-inch IPS display.

Laptab comes with 2GB RAM, 7400 mAh battery, 2MP front camera with light sensor and wireless keyboard. With storage of 32 GB expandable up to 64 GB and supports Bluetooth v4.0 and Wi-Fi, he added.

"As Micromax looks to expand footprints across global markets, we would continue to fulfill our promise of democratising technology for people around the world by making it more affordable and accessible," Sharma said.

Micromax would be unveiling more products across international markets in next six months, he added.
According to analysts, the Laptab's specifications are not its highpoint, but the dual operating systems is.

However, Micromax is not the only company to launch a dual-OS tablet here.

Computer components maker Asus unveiled its Transformer Book Duet TD300, which also runs on Windows 8 and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

Create a New network by giving an unique name and password. Once connected, all computers can securely share any files they choose. You can download files directly from another PC, or edit them without downloading them at all.

3. Setup a Free VPN with Gbridge

Gbridge might not be as popular as LogMeIn Hamachi or Comodo Unite, but it is equally effective. It’s a free software that lets you remotely control PCs, sync folders, share files, and chat securely and easily. It is Windows only and uses your Google account for authentication.

Once you download and install the software, simply sign in with your Gmail account, then enter a hostname for your computer. It will then let you to remotely access your other computers via the built-in VNC client (DesktopShare) or through Windows Remote Desktop. It is important to note that Gbridge is Windows only and works only for 32-bit versions.

What a year! Google lawyers fought off Oracle, got a judge to agree that digitizing and making “out of print” books freely available was a public service, signed a sweetheart deal with the FTC, despite a monopoly position in search which they have frequently abused, and the late Steve Jobs’ thermonuclear war on Android has not slowed down the world’s most popular OS even in the slightest. I’m assuming there will be quite the cash bonus from Larry Page to his merry band of lawyers.

It can eradicate the worst parts of our past, re-invent our very notions of the future and captivate our present. Oftentimes, however, it flops worse than a petulant soccer player on a losing team. Facebook Home

Facebook Home was such an utter, abject, laughable failure that you probably already forgot that it ever existed. I suspect that the mysterious illness that prevented Google’s Larry Page from talking for so many months stemmed from his laughing hysterically when he first saw Facebook Home.

Steve Ballmer

I believe no non-founder ever gave more of himself, his talents, his passions, his sleepless nights, as Steve Ballmer gave to Microsoft. Ballmer helped Microsoft become so big that it — literally — scared governments and sent the mighty Steve Jobs, fortuitously, scurrying off as far away from “personal computers” as he possibly could.
Nonetheless…Microsoft’s stock has done better since Ballmer announced his “resignation” then it did during the decade he actually ran the company. Worse, much worse, and nearly inconceivable, is that there are over a billion smartphones in use plus hundreds of millions of tablets and nearly everyone has absolutely no Microsoft software inside.
For all I admire about Ballmer, and I admire much, the company’s failure in mobile computing is, in my opinion, a far more devastating capitulation than Time Warner buying AOL at the absolute top of the market.

Smartwatches

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear commercial is glorious. The watch itself is Kanye-cool. Only, no one bought one because there is no need for one. The year of the smartwatch was anything but. Galaxy Gear flopped. Apple’s iWatch never appeared. The Pebble watch was essentially a high-margin toy purchased by Silicon Valley insiders. Not wanted, not needed.

Every quarter, as Google reports anew the latest Motorola loss, we are presented with yet another reminder that Google’s purchase of Motorola was a profound strategic mistake.
I don’t think it’s their biggest. Rather, that would be Google’s decision to consign iOS users with an inferior version of Google Maps — for years. That led to Apple’s decision to offer its own mapping service. As Charles Arthur notes, Google Maps has already lost tens of millions of iPhone users — possibly Google Inc’s most lucrative customer base. Hubris.

Siri

Apple’s existence now spans across five decades. In all that time has the company ever promoted a device or a service as prominently, as consistently and as aggressively that has gone so utterly unused as Siri? Siri is now more than two years old and still doesn’t work as it should. Worse, even if it did we would still rarely use it.

We all learned what this word meant when Apple killed it off. It was time.

The Third Mobile Platform

As of this moment, smartphones now sell about a billion units a year. This massive, industry-shifting market belongs almost entirely to two platforms: Android and iOS. Symbian is dead. BlackBerry is at death’s door. There is effectively no Tizen, no Firefox OS in actual use, no Ubuntu and nearly no Windows Phone.
Has the industry consolidated this quickly, despite being this big, this global? As much as I believe there is room for a thriving Windows Phone ecosystem, the market itself, in every region and across every demographic, tells us that iOS and Android are enough for nearly everyone. How To Install Android Operating System Perfectly For PC

Android-x86 has released the first iso image file of Android Jelly Bean on Christmas Eve available for download. The jb-x86 is based on Android 4.2.1 and this is the first Jelly Bean test release version, so it is possible to see a few bugs here and there. I have tested it on Asus laptop and so far everything seems to work reasonably well, including the WIFI connection. As we expected, Android jb-x86 runs smoother and responsive compared to the AndroVM Jelly Bean.

3. Open LiLi USB Creator and follow the steps below:
STEP 1 : CHOOSE YOUR KEY - Select your flash drive.
STEP 2 : CHOOSE A SOURCE - Click on ISO / IMG / ZIP and pick android_OS_-x86-4.2-20121225_WOC.iso. LiLi will use Android x86 4.0 RC2 install parameters to create.
STEP 3 : PERSISTENCE - Just leave it default.
STEP 4 : OPTIONS - You may check or uncheck the boxes according to your preferences. These will not affect jb-x86 installation.
STEP 5 : CREATE - Click on the lightning icon to start the installation.

4. Once the installation is done, restart your computer.

5. Before loading BIOS, choose your flash drive to boot first. Usually by pressing ESC or F10 key, you may have to refer your computer's manual guide.

6. Try/Install Android Jelly Bean:
Select Live CD - Run Android-x86 without installation to try jb-x86 before your install it. (Strongly recommend you to try the OS first)
