Just open the SIM door at the side of the phone and swap your SIMs. It’s as easy as that! No more waiting for the phone to reboot. With the Nokia C2-00 you can also browse the internet, read emails and enjoy instant messaging with either SIM card. Not only is the internet browsing experience far superior than that available on competing Dual SIM products, but so too is the memory support. At a whopping 32 GB, the Nokia C2-00 lets you keep thousands of photos, videos and music files with you all the time.

Then again, it’s been a long time since there’s been any worthwhile Nokia news. And so, after a four-month hiatus, it’s time again to look at one of Nokia’s latest phones: the oft-rumored N9.

When we last left Nokia, the company had announced that it would be going the way of the Windows Phone, in what was probably one of the biggest deals between two of the largest tech companies out there. Nokia’s two last platforms – Symbian and MeeGo – were going to be jettisoned, in the hope that moving to Windows would give Nokia the flexibility to innovate both software and hardware. Symbian had, more or less, become a dying platform, and MeeGo wasn’t living up to its expectations as a savior for the company:

Gone are the Home buttons (hardware or software) of yesteryear. Nokia’s touting the simplicity of the N9 over everything, in that all it takes is just a simple swipe. Swipe to scroll, swipe to move through your home screens, and even swipe to minimize your applications. And speaking of the home screens, you’ve got three of them here: your application launcher, your multitask view (similar to the N900′s), and finally, your notification page which shows missed calls and social media updates.

Everything about the N9 looks impressive – too impressive, maybe. What’s Nokia’s doing here? They’ve cast aside MeeGo for Windows Phone, but put the spotlight back with a hell of a device. I don’t quite get it. But I have to hand it to Nokia: the first release candidate of MeeGo (1.1)I’m amazed that it got this far.

Unfortunately, there’s no talk about price or availability (yet), other than the generic “The Nokia N9 is scheduled to be in stores later this year, with availability and local pricing to be announced closer to the sales start.”

Nokia N900 Gets New

Nokia N900

It’s been a while since my last post. The available specification details for the Samsung G800 can be found on the right column with some great photos in the left hand side column.
The main feature of the G800 is that it has a 5 megapixel camera which Samsung has dubbed " the Photographer's choice".
The full specification of the 5 megapixel camera phone is :
5 MegapixelOptical Inner Zoom ( 3X Optical, 4X Digital )Xenon Flash, Auto FocusWide Dynamic Range ( WDR ), Face DetectionImage Stabilizer, Image Editor, Image StampPanorama / Mosaic / Macro Shot Landscape Camera UI, Camera Lens Cover
Of course, optical zoom is common in digital cameras, but this is the first time that optical zoom has been included in a 5 megapixel cameraphone. It also comes equipped with features such as face detection, and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), which are very up-to-date features even in today's digital cameras.
Boasting 3x optical zoom and a Xenon flash to enable close-ups and good photo quality, the G800 also comes with other features such as panorama shots, multi shots and macro shots. The 3x optical zoom is an inner zoom, where the lens does not extend outside the body of the phone, ensuring a slimmer design.
So what else is there besides the camera you ask? Well sharing images and videos is made simpler by a proprietary tool. You can also excel at video editing functions such as cutting, pasting, and editing films. There is also a mobile blogging feature which helps users to upload their favorite User Created Contents (UCC) site very easily. The G800 looks even more like a digital camera when you look at the Graphical User Interface (GUI ) and the On Screen Display (OSD) shows various camera indicators in a horizontal preview mode.
Basically, the G800 looks much like a digital camera on one side and mobile phone on the other side. Yes its a sophisticated design and includes a two handed grip facility for when taking pictures. The Samsung G800 is currently supported by a major advertising campaign across Europe and is expected to be available during November. 3G's next step will be to undertake a review of the Samsung G800

Acer F900 Beautiful

Acer F900 Beautiful Multimedia Tool – Acer F900 Deals

It is easy to notice that you have taken your phone with you or not as it weighs 150 grams and measures 117.5 x 63.5 x 12.9 mm in size. With its 3 megapixel camera, document viewer, brilliant music player and scarily-fast web access, it's a jack (and master) of all trades!
When you take a look at the market, you'll often see that business phones have different features to consumer phones . A business phone may be heavy on the productivity software, while a consumer phone may well feature more fun features. Well, the Nokia E55 bridges the gap between the phone, being a phone that both works hard AND plays hard!
Hard Working
It's easy to spot how good the Nokia E55 will be for business use , with a half-QWERTY keyboard (similar to the one on certain Blackberry devices) emphasising that email plays an important part in the phone's life. Of course, that keyboard has other uses outside of email, as it comes complete with Office applications that make mobile working a pleasure, especially when you throw in the incredibly fast HSDPA, running at up to 10.2Mbps. It's so easy to do useful work on the Nokia E55, and it's made rewarding thanks to that beautiful keypad!
Play Hard
When work's over, though, the Nokia E55 becomes one incredible personal mobile phone, with a raft of fun features; take, for example, the 3 megapixel camera, that lets you grab those fleeting moments in high resolution. The integrated music player gives you all the top tunes while you're doing that, and, of course, the integrated GPS in the Nokia E55 encompasses both work uses and personal uses.
What's really cool about the Nokia E55, however, is how easy changing from work mode to play mode is; it's as easy as selecting ONE icon on screen. Select that, and the home screen switches from work to play, or back again, only showing you the icons you need in each mode. It enriches your personal life while it makes your working life more effective, so get the incredible Nokia E55

T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 phone with pictures

T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 phone with pictures

T-Mobile Sidekick is a very famous mobile phone series of T-Mobile and LX 2009 is the newest phone of this series. it's a very good internet phone because of the QWERTY keypad and the 3.2 inch display. This is not surprise because developers have been crying for SDK for iPhone. Many people have predicted that Apple will open their platform soon or later; otherwise they will have difficulty competing with “open” smart phones.
What made me surprise is the statement from Steve Jobs in the news. They will have an advanced system that allows developer to access iPhone’s software platform while at the same time protecting users from malicious programs. It sounds like Platform Security in Symbian OS, doesn’t it?
It will take until February to release an SDK because we?re trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once?provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc. Some companies are already taking action. Nokia, for example, is not allowing any applications to be loaded onto some of their newest phones unless they have a digital signature that can be traced back to a known developer

iPhone 3G Users Report

iPhone 3G Users Report Dropped Call Problems

According to various sources, many iPhone 3G customers in USA and Europe have been experiencing connection failures during calls. The problem commonly occurs when the iPhone attempts to move to another network from 3G. According to some experts, the 3G chipset provided by German chipmaker Infineon Technologies is to blame.Roger Entner of Nielsen IAG recently mentioned that the problem occurs in every market where the iPhone 3G is being sold and pointed out that it is probably a problem with the iPhone 3G device rather than any particular network. Apple has released a software fix which is available now. A recall of iPhone 3G devices might be necessary if the problem isn’t solved by a software fix. This could spell big trouble for Apple. However Roger noted that it would be an unlikely occurrence.

Spotify Allows Users to Stream Music to iPhone

A new app from Swedish music streaming service, Spotify, allows users who purchase a £10 subscription to listen to unlimited songs from the reportedly vast library of music the company offers. The app not only enables users to search out new music, it also allows them to store playlists on their phone for times when there are no connections available to them such as when they are on a plane or underground. The company has been seen as a rival to Apple’s iTunes because it offers an alternative model of music sales that many in the industry believe could be a viable and competitive way to sell songs online. The Spotify music library contains millions of tracks and the company has over two million subscribers in the UK alone, with over six million subscribers having been garnered across Europe since it began only a year ago.The Spotify app is available for free via download for Spotify Premium subscribers at the Apple App store. The company has plans in place to expand into the US by the end of 2009. It is expected that the US market will be readily open to the idea of subscribing to a music service due to the popularity of the now outlawed file sharing networks that experienced such heavy traffic due to music trading.

Apple iPhone

Apple iPhone mobile phone

Review

July 2007 - After a 6 month wait, the iPhone has finally launched in the US but has it been worth the wait? Pocket-lint went State side to try it out. Having lived with the phone for the weekend there is no denying the fact that it's large and minimalist at the same time. The new mobile phone from Apple is, it has to be said, a thing of beauty. Apple has created a device that many will lust after. Like Motorola with the RAZR, there is no doubt that this phone will change the industry's approach to how users interact with their mobile for the better. So where is the catch? Has it been worth the wait for the Americans and what about us Brits with still another 4 months to go? Well yes and no. For every two good elements to the phone there are plenty of cons. Going for it is that large crisp bright touchscreen, the touch sensitive controls including zooming into pictures with just two fingers, the 4GB or 8GB hard drive for your MP3 tracks and movies, Coverflow application, the inclusion of a digital camera, the ability to access voice messages out of sequence, the Wi-Fi connectivity and of course the software interaction including YouTube, Google Maps and Apple's Safari internet browser. But then there is the bad; no 3G connectivity, no video mode for the digital camera, no zoom for the digital camera, no flash for the digital camera, Bluetooth only works with headsets rather than allowing file transfer, there is no removable memory, the headphone jack has been recessed into the device meaning your regular headphones are unlikely to fit, there is no video out even with a third party docking station, no voice recording, no instant message application, no support for custom ringtones, no flash or java support, no support for third party applications beyond the web browser, no hard QWERTY keyboard, it doesn't work with the 64-bit version of Windows, the price is very expensive and finally the fact that it's all been done before. So how does it compare to other handsets on the market? Against the BlackBerry Curve or 8800 you don't get same email satisfaction, nor the hard keyboard if you're looking to type anything of any worth (there's the satnav as well if you count the 8800). Keyboard versus keyboard, the BlackBerry does win out every time, that's not to say the iPhone keyboard is completely useless, it's certainly good for any on-screen keypad typing web URLs and text messages, even short emails, but a decent typer it isn't. No matter what Apple's says, on-screen is still on-screen, if you know what we mean. So what against the Nokia N95? Well the iPhone doesn't have GPS receiver built-in, or the 5 megapixel camera with video capabilities and Flickr and Vox plug-ins. The music offering and software interface is certainly better however. The iPhone connectivity with iTunes (version 7.3 of course) is a breeze and anyone who has used an iPod will be right at home with the music software. Additionally Google Maps although sucking power like a leech is also very good. You just don't get GPS. So what about against the newly announced HTC Touch? Well it's considerably bigger but that's about it with the Touch really only winning on greater connectivity for business users (think enterprise) and that size. Against the LG Prada? Well it's clear having now played with both that they are clearly marketed at different people. The Prada is for people who just want a phone.

Firmware: Nokia N97 12.2.024 Released

There’s a new firmware available for the Nokia N97, and it looks like it’s a global update. Good news, right? Unfortunately, for the most part no one seems to know what the firmware actually fixed – myself included. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, my phone crashed several times after successfully updating. Ugh!
And for those of you hoping for threaded SMS, or Go To boxes in the browser fullscreen mode, or kinetic scrolling everywhere – you’re going to be disappointed

Nokia 5800 vs.Nokia 5530

Nokia 5800 vs.Nokia 5530

Nokia launched its newest mass market touch screen music phone, the 5530 XpressMusic yesterday at the Nokia Connection 2009. Today, the company unveiled the Motorola Evoke a full touchscreen device that has integrated widgets that look much like the icons on the face of an iPhone. The Evoke includes a full HTML browser, and provides access to sites like Google’s Picasa, MySpace and YouTube. The phone also has a slide-out keypad when held vertically and when turned on its side, a virtual Qwerty keyboard appears. In addition, it has a 2 megapixel camera with video-recording capabilities. Regional wireless operator Cricket will be the first carrier to sell the Evoke in May for an undisclosed price.“We understand the importance of having a mobile phone that helps you stay connected simply and seamlessly with your friends and family, whether you prefer to talk, text or network,” said Mark Shockley, corporate vice president and general manager, Motorola Mobile Devices. “Motorola Evoke offers the cutting-edge convenience and instant gratification of a full touch-screen, intuitive online browsing and the ability to stay plugged in on your terms.”

sonyericsson

W595a

Cherish your friends

Share your favorite sounds through the built-in stereo speakers. It’s rapidly becoming the norm for our members to use a camera phone to share their immediate world with others, and a mobile browser to keep track of friends and family.
Today we’re releasing several upgrades to m.flickr.com. If you’ve got a smartphone with one of the fancier new mobile browsers, you’ll experience a completely new version of our mobile site, one that’s built around the things that are most important to you when you’re on the go.
First, the sexy part — you can now view Flickr videos on your mobile phone! Videos uploaded from today forward will be immediately viewable through our mobile site. As of today this particular feature is available on iPhone and Android phones, as well as iPod Touch. We expect to rapidly expand the number of devices that we support in the coming weeks.
The activity stream now has more information in it, all synched to the settings you specify on the main Flickr site. For the first time you can now comment on, and favorite, photos from your mobile phone. And it’s also wonderfully simple to add, find, and manage your contacts.
Emailing photos from your mobile phone to Flickr also gets a little easier. We’ve made your secret Flickr upload email address a cinch to find and use. Just enter it in your address book under the name “Flickr”, then email us whenever you shoot something interesting.
Finally, if nothing’s happening in your part of the Flickrverse, we’ve made it very easy to browse the most interesting photos of the day, or do a search of the 3 billion+ photos that

samsung tobi s3030

Samsung Tobi S3030 Bright Orange Review and Release

Featuring a 1.3MP camera, music player and Bluetooth v2.0 this brightly coloured handset is just the thing for pre-teens. So what qualifies a Samsung handset as a Samsung BizBee phone well if it’s a Messaging Smartphone that’s a good start. The theory behind this new range is much like RIM and Blackberry.
Targeted at Business users the new Samsung BizBee Series is about providing powerful yet simple solutions for busy business excutives on the go.
To celebrate its relaunch the Samsung i780 BizBee has also received a bit of a makeover and now runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional and features a larger 2.6″ touchscreen with a full Qwerty keyboard and optical trackpad.
3G enabled with HSDPA High Speed Data and WiFi capabilities, the Samsung BizBee i780 is awash with features. Sporting a 2.0 mega pixel camera and a secondary camera for video calling, the Samsung i780 proudly boasts a built-in GPS Satellite Navigation System with A-GPS function

With the larger touchscreen display and higher resolution increasing the productivity of web browsing and emailing, users can make the most of their time. Get chatting live with instant messaging, make video calls or stay in touch with simple text messaging. The Media Player provides superior entertainment whilst Pocket Office, voice memo, photo slides and SmartConverter only adds substance to its use as a business device.
The camera comes with full video recording capabilities and includes autofocus plus there’s the added advantage of having TV Output to hand. Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Technology and USB connectivity, along side microSD card expansion are amongst many of the standard features of this phone. Unlimited in its uses and practically unlimited in its capabilites, the Samsung i780 smartphone is a powerful business tool that offers great performance.

Mobile Web Design

A onesize-fits-all approach to solving problems rarely seems to work in the real world, and the mobile Web is no different.
Up to this point, most mobile sites have been developed by re-hashing traditional Web content and squeezing it onto the small screen—an unfortunate “Mini-Me” approach to mobile Web design. The result? While the traditional Web becomes more useful and creative every day, the significance of the mobile Web has largely stalled. The mobile Web has yet to realize its awesome potential, and the problem isn’t a technology issue like you may be already thinking. The problem is design, or rather, a lack thereof, within the mobile medium

The Mobile Web is Not the Little Sister of the Traditional Web

What makes a mobile site so different?
It’s not the screen size—it’s the intent of the user. Very often, traditional Web users browse the Web for entertainment or to kill time. Even when traditional users need to perform work-related tasks, they are easily sidetracked by Twitter, YouTube, or any of the thousands of social networking sites.
Mobile users, on the other hand, typically browse the mobile Web when they are in need of specific information. These experiences tend to be much shorter than they are on the traditional Web, and users rarely browse for entertainment purposes. Let’s just be honest with ourselves—if a user could be in front of a computer, that’s where he or she would be.
Suppose that you were offered a chance to view a new Red Hot Chili Peppers music video on your phone. Would you actually navigate to the video and watch it, when you could just as easily view it on a speedy home computer? Re-purposing traditional Web content and stuffing it into a mobile browser is a recipe for disaster. Instead, it’s time to look at the mobile Web as a uniquely distinctive medium

Give People What They Want, When They Want It

All mobile Web users across the globe want the same thing: the ability, at any time, to easily access any information.
What this means for mobile Web designers and developers, is that first and foremost, we need to approach mobile Web sites as an information-architecture problem, and NOT as a technology problem. Mobile Web sites should be formatted in a way that allows users to easily navigate and make decisions. Users don’t want to dig through the clutter of a traditional Web site to find the tiny link they were looking for.
Companies that merely ensure their existing Web site is viewable on mobile phones, have, for the most part, wasted their time and money. This is primarily because this type of mobile Web site will likely be hard to navigate through, or be terrible looking. All too often, users get frustrated when they can’t find the content they are looking for. This fact is exactly why wireless carrier “decks” exist

Build Unique Mobile Content, or Don’t Bother Building Anything at All

Mobile is a unique medium and it should be designed with this idea in mind. If you are not willing to rewrite, modify, or create custom mobile content, then don’t bother creating a mobile site in the first place.
This point is best illustrated by an example:
A university could easily mobilize its existing Web content to create a mobile Web site, but do freshman really need to be able to schedule classes from their phone when they are lost in the Quad? The answer should be, obviously, no.
Wouldn’t the university mobile site be more effective if it was limited to custom information that is relevant for on-the-go students—such as mobile maps, a one-click phone number directory and faculty office hours? The answer is yes

Make It Useable. Make It Useable. Make It Useable

Mobile Web sites MUST always work on every phone. Period.
What this means is that mobile Web designers need to consider multiple screen sizes, as well as multiple technologies. A mobile Web site should dynamically transcode content such as forms, images, videos, ringtones and layouts, so that any user, with any phone, can enjoy a seamless browsing experience. Users should never have to tell a mobile site what kind of phone they have—it should already know.
Consider that for the traditional Web, designers and developers need to account for differences between Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Opera, screen sizes, color depth, Flash versions, and more. Why would mobile be any different?

The Mobile Web

web Mobiles

A lot of people have asked us when we will add support for the iPhone, Blackberry and what about Android? Imagine the reaction we receive when we the answer is - we already do! Well, sort of. To explain, lets first discuss the target user of ArcGIS Mobile and then discuss how the Mobile Web fits into the picture

Enterprise Field Worker

ArcGIS Mobile is designed and engineered to fit the needs and workflows of the enterprise field worker. Viewing and navigating to locations, collecting new spatial and tabular data, and locating/updating existing assets in the field are all common tasks for the enterprise field worker. They demand highly focused, workflow driven applications that are fully functional whether you are connected in the field or not. Where do you find the enterprise field worker? He/she inspects their city infrastructure, performs state or county surveys, responds to incidents when something bad happens, and much more. They leverage the corporate investment in GIS to manage their infrastructure in the field.
The Mobile Consumer
Those local and state agencies that are moving to ArcGIS Server and deploying mobile GIS to their field operations using ArcGIS Mobile are not the only field workforce that consumes corporate spatial data - citizens within a local government, tax payers within a county are as well. The mobile consumer wants to discover corporate information that is managed by their state or local government. For example, why can't I see all of the recycling centers in my city using my iPhone or Blackberry? How about public transportation routes and schedules?
So how can a local government support so many different devices

9.3 Service Pack 1 Released

On Friday November 7th, we shipped the first service pack for the 9.3 release of ArcGIS Server. This is a significant release for ArcGIS Mobile and we recommend that if you are currently using 9.3 that you download and install the patch.
The patch includes the following key enhancements and stability improvements that will be interested in

ArcGIS Mobile Application supports Windows Mobile Smartphone devices

At SP1, the ArcGIS Mobile application now fully supports non-touch screen Windows Mobile devices (namely Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC and Windows Mobile 6 Standard) devices. All menu items are fully accessible using the numeric keypad of your smartphone device and the map navigation controls are optimized for use with the rocker

Mobile Server Performance

We identified and addressed a significant issue with the Mobile SOE of the Map Server during this service pack that will increase the performance of the Server and improve its stability. Some users were reporting that the Mobile Service would fail yet the Map Service remained accessible. Some users also found that they were running out of memory on their server as well. Both of these issues have been addressed in the SP1 release

PostGres SQL Support

At the 9.3 final release, mobile applications did not support the editing of GIS data stored inside of a PostGres SQL database. This has now been addressed and PostGres SQL is a fully supported database for your mobile applications.

Mobile 2.0,

refers to a perceived next generation of mobile internet services that leverage the social web, or what some call Web 2.0 The social web includes social networking sites and wikis that emphasise collaboration and sharing amongst users. You can still find all of the past stories via this link. To follow Mobile Web Server stories, I will be using tag ‘Mobile Web Server‘ for those so you can always find the stories. I am also working with Saara to have a new RSS feed, but I don’t know about this yet.
I have to admit I am not completely satisfied with the current status, and I do apologize for all my loyal Mobile Web Server Blog readers if this causes annoyance to you. But you know, all good things come to an end and most changes bring something good with them. For me this change means a better motivation to write also about other things in the context of S60. To follow my stories, use this link or RSS feed.
-Jukka

Fully MWS Compatible PAMP

A fully MWS compatible version of the Personal AMP - Apache, MySQL and PHP - stack for S60 has been released!
This version can be installed directly on top of MWS, after which you can develop mobile sites using PHP and MySQL. And be able to install pretty much any PHP/MySQL based CMS Wiki or other package alongside the default MWS site. But there are still rough edges, so it’s better if you are not afraid of the bleeding-edge:)
As usual, you can download PAMP from SourceForge and installation instructions are provided in our wiki.
In case of any problems or questions, please use the Forum Nokia discussion board.
Have fun!
Johan

More about the Location feature in Mobile Web Server

One of the coolest things in Mobile Web Server 1.3 beta has to be the Location feature. It’s a bit hidden down there in Presence application so chances are you haven’t even noticed it yet.
By default Presence page shows just the coordinates if the phone location is found. It’s fair to say that’s not very intuitive but here we are leaving the innovation possibilities for developers and hobbyists. It’s very easy to modify the default Presence page to have a link to any map or other service. Hint: the file is Web server\htdocs\Web_Applications\Presence\Viewer\index.psp. You can take a look at our demo device’s Presence page, it has some examples on what to do with the location

If you don’t feel like experimenting just start to use our Facebook application. It will translate your location into a map name and country, if you allow that. This way your friends can check out your live location roughly.
The location feature works in S60 devices that have the AGPS feature in software. This includes all the models that have internal GPS module. For some products such as N95 and E90 make sure you have the latest software for the device. Our current implementation only uses network-based location which can be hundreds of meters or even kilometers off depending on the cellular network structure. In our next release we will add an option to use also the GPS information if desired.
Bonus link: The Mobile Web Server brochure describes this and other possible future ideas. Click for the full size image.
The big question is - can the Blackberry Storm maintain this level of interest for the next 6 months or longer like the iPhone has?

Blackberry Storm 9500 in shops on Friday

As rumoured last week we now have confirmationthat the Blackberry Storm will be in the shops on Friday.
You can also pre-order from tomorrow on the Phones4u Blackberry Storm page or via Vodafone.

The Blackberry storm is already set to the the top selling handset of the month and will rival the iPhone as a business handset. With HSDPA and 8GB memory as well as Windows Mobile 6.1, GPS navigation and geo-tagging it’s no wonder this is a top selling device.

A few final bugs

Some things in life don't go according to plan -- at least not in software development. We knew when we announced a release date before we finished development that a showstopper bug might be found that could alter the actual date we release the beta. As you can imagine, we encountered a few bugs last week that we needed to fix before we launch. Our engineering team worked through the weekend to fix the bugs. Even though our release is a beta, we'd rather spend the extra time to fix them, thus giving you a better experience. The fixes are almost complete now, but we need two more days to run the build through our quality assurance testing. The new launch date is now set for the 17th.We're disappointed to delay, but fixing these bugs will improve the experience with our beta and let you fully test the browser.

Green SMS and USSD Centers

There is a lot of talk nowadays about being Green (because of the climate change) and now also about being cost efficient (because of the world financial crisis).
So the question is: how efficient is your SMS/USSD center/gateway
