Since lockdown I have been playing with The Sims 4 so much more and also taking on some home DIY projects.

An idea hit me to use The Sims as a tool to visualize potential colours for my real life kitchen - so I did it!

Lockdown 2020 - Surviving & keeping busy

Been a while since I posted :)

Since we all live on the same planet - we are all in the same boat. Lockdown - covid19 - coronavirus flow.
The lockdown is lifting now slowly however we have been in social distancing for 9 weeks (how insane)!

I have been busy, well trying to....

I also took on a 3 month Digital Marketing course with General Assembly Which I have as of this week completed!! YAY

A reflection on my 2019

Hi guys, this blog post may be a bit big...

I have a few things to say, goals to speak to existence, feelings to pour and I apologize in advance if it's a long one.

2020 is here and I can't believe it but we move.
It feels not that long ago since I did my previous 2018. Nevertheless here we are, one year on and it is time to reflect on 2019.

What a year!

In 2019 I learned life comes at you fast... People you didn't expect to be back in your life are, opportunities you never think you will get arrive and I learned to simply take lifes opportunities by the horns and go for it.

I learned to be more free and happy, learned I cannot control much except directly what I have in and around my life. I have learned to be less insecure, less jealous, more trusting in my business savvy and learned to trust my gut more when it comes to making big decisions. I have been so much more happy for it.

This past year I have also felt I had more peace... and for this to me has been the most wonderful gift. Peace of mind, peace of heart is golden and no one can tell me differently.

2020 has been a weird start already. For many reasons...

The world seems to be going to war, Australia is in flames and there are many questions that have risen personally.

2020 feels to be a year of decisions. The year of no messing around. The year of no more luke warm activity. No more grey areas. Yes means yes and no means no. This is the energy I am feeling.

Maybe it is the fact 2020 is a round number, maybe it's the fact it is a new decade but there feels to be a sort of pressure to succeed and do well. This pressure is healthy but also not.

I hope my peers and any readers do not feel pressured, or rushed or nervous. Your time is your time, let it be that.

Habakkuk Chapter 2; "The LORD answered me: Write down this vision; clearly inscribe it on tablets so one may easily read it.
For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it testifies about the end and will not lie. Though it delays, wait for it, since it will certainly come and not be late."

2019 Achievements
-Bought First Car & completed small road trips
-My brother got married
-Started on a very small business that has proven more successful than I imagined.
-Traveled to Venice & Cambridge for the first time
-Enrolled onto a £££ course funded by my employers
-Saved my intended financial goal amount
-Remained in employment

2020 Goals
-Continue to grow the mini business
-Learn and practice Sewing
-Begin and complete course successfully
-Drive to 5+ road trip locations
-Save a new specific amount of ££££
-Join a gym
-Fix Teeth / Get Braces
-

I thought, would writing my goals be a good or bad thing? But writing my goals into my safe space as well as the internet I hope can solidify my goals and push me to make them reality.
Also the bible scripture above confirms it.

Today as I type this I hope these first few days of the year are not a show of what's to come. There is so much hope for this year and decade and so much fun to be had and I aim to keep positive whilst moving forward.
...Okay guys, similar to last year I would like to close with a prayer with you <3

Heavenly father, Thank you! Thank you for everything. Thank you for bringing us into a new year, a new decade. With life and health I hope I can remain in your path and do well. Please continue to guide us in difficult times and watch over us in joyful moments.
I pray this year brings happiness, success and prosperity.

21 Day Fast - Oct 2019 (What I Fasted, Why I Fasted & A Reflection)

Hi guys, I have a quick humble post to make...

It's no secret I am a christian and although I grew up in a Christian household, as an adult I have found my relationship with God and learned to sustain a personal relationship by actively learning how to walk in faith.
With this post - I just wanted to highlight a recent challenge I took on toward the end of this year.
This challenge is called FASTING.

We all have many ideas and understanding of what fasting is, and many different cultures and religions fast for many different reasons.
I have never fast before and I have to admit it always intimidated me to take it on. Also I was curious on how others fasted etc

Thanks to my church group, we asked each other questions on each others experience with fasting, we also encouraged one another to take on a 21 day fast as a church.
As the year comes to an end, we had the opportunity to reflect on the past few months, to look forward to our future and to stand together in prayer for one another.
There are many different types of fasting you can take on - many people recognise the food fast however within our group we wanted to choose something personal to us.
One girl fast social media, another girl fast Netflix and one of the guys fast alcohol, there was many options each member chose for their own personal reasons.

The key was to fast something that takes a lot of your day to day time, in exchange for time of prayer and one on one time with God.
In my case I fast all Meat. This included Chicken, Red meats & fish.
I wanted something that I would be reminded daily of my decision to fast.
I also wanted a challenge and a challenge it was.

For the 21 days I became essentially a vegetarian.
Every lunch time, dinner time I would be reminded of my decision, encouraged to pray.
I would give thanks for my day, thanks for the opportunity to fast and I also had a prayer schedule which every day we prayed in unison for a specific reason.

Beginning on 14th Oct - 3rd November it did prove a challenge, however I realise with willpower and having a clear reason why I am fasting, everything became easy and not a burden or a reason for frustration.
Dinners out with friends were a breeze, selecting vegetarian options opened up my palette to other tastes and it was a great conversation starter in my non christian circles to speak about what I am doing and why.

Reflecting now, it feels like so long ago since I fast. And I miss that closeness with God.
Every day I was reminded to pray, where as in my normal day to day life it can be hard to remember to take time from our busy schedules. And that's the truth.

I did not plan to make this post, but I was encouraged to do so and I think that if I can shed some light on fasting and what it means and how we can remove such a negative religious views from it, I would be so happy.
I would also like to encourage you if you ever can take it on, we can do it together. Maybe next year?

1. Lee Krasner @ The Barbican
Personally I am not very familiar with Lee Krasners work however being at The Barbican by chance we thought we would give it a go.
Wife of Jackson Pollock, Lee is a respected artist in her own right and this show was larger than I imagined, demonstrating her strong body of work over the years. This also encouraged me to see a couple in the same field can both have success and be powerful.

2. A.I. Exhibition @ The Barbican Centre
Sadly we didn't manage to make it to the actual exhibit, however there was this amazing A.I feature outside. A robot bartender, you place your order, the robot arms make your drink and viola, we was drinking cocktails in no time.
Is this the future?
(Also the scenery around Barbican is wonderful. A few great shots snapped)

3. Van Gogh And Britain @ Tate Britain
Always a fan of Van Gogh, I knew I would want to pass by this exhibit. The greatness of this exhibit was the narrative on how Van Gogh lived and worked in and around Britain and it was so amazing to see him in places we are familiar with.

4. Frank Bowling & Various @ Tate Britain
Not a favourite in my Summer List but it was interesting to have a wonder around the exhibit & Tate Britain. Some interesting art spaces filled.

5. Cindy Sherman @ National Portrait Gallery
This exhibit was a lot of fun. No photographs allowed inside, however in short - Cindy Sherman is a one woman powerhouse. Using herself in all her works, I definitely relate.
She adopts different personas and scenes and runs with it. I couldn't help buy play with her green screen.

6. BP Portrait Award 2019 @ National Portrait Gallery
There is no better way to inspire me to go home and paint than the BP Portrait awards.
What a large amount of work, all painted. So inspiring.

7. Variety visit @ Tate Modern
Just a random fun day at the Tate Modern. It doesn't get any better than that.
Always recommend it to anyone with a free day.

8. Olafur Eliasson In Real Life @ Tate Modern
Now...THIS exhibition was something special. I mean look at the lighting Olafur created, I have so many photographs this does not do it justice.
Playing with location, light, space, shadow, interaction & environment it was a great exhibition but also super instagram friendly.
Also weird on the eyes...

9. Urban Impulses - Latin American Photography @ The Photographers Gallery
This exhibition was closely connected to my heart and soul.
Being from Latin American heritage it is so rare I see contemporary exhibitions in London.
Urban Impulses had a collection of Latin American photographers and their subjects.
Some works highlighting fun and joy and fiestas, others showing the politics, the riots and the violence.
Truly connecting and filling me with pride. I hope to see more

10. Manga Exhibit @ The British Museum
A wonderful exhibition filled with manga joy. I certainly learned something new and it inspired me to go home and watch some of Mizayakis works.
Also inpsired me to go home and put ink to paper but didn't get around to it just yet...

11. LDN Reimagined @ Zari Gallery
Finally, we have a dear friends exhibit and book launch.
Looking at London and how we can reimagine our surroundings.
Have you ever looked at something and thought it looked something else?
LDN Reimagined took it to the next level and it is so fun to see our familiar London with a different narrative.. (some of which is not far from the truth)

Hyper Japan 2019 - Kensington Olympia

(First time going, what we did and photos we took ^^)

Hi guys, so we went!
We managed to go to the wonderful show called "Hyper Japan" at the Kensington Olympia. I've been to Olympia many times, particularly for work. But this time we went for a good time.

Thanks to my amazing friend Mai, who was working with Kimono De Go, she arranged us free entry, free kimono styling, and free kimono rental which we wore for the whole visit. We only managed to go for the last 2 hours nefore Hyper Japan closed but we had a blast and enjoyed the experience.

We managed to do a walk through of the entire show, a few last minute spontaneous purchases and of course so many quality photographs.

Cambridge 2019 ; May Bank Holiday

My second trip of 2019 - Visiting Cambridge for the first time.

Sharing photographs and gems in the town <3

Hey guys, This post is long overdue. This year I have definitely learned I LOVE bank holidays!!

This was a wonderful May bank hol, we thought we would venture in England. Having heard so much about Cambridge and how lovely it is, it has always been on my list to visit. In my mind I want to travel more of the world, but in the mean time, with a day off here and there I would also love to see more of England.

I don't have as many anecdotes as the Venice trip, however here are some quick stats and tips off the top of my head.

Punting - (Boat rides) We did it and decided to join another group, making the fee for punting drop from £20 to £15 per person.

You can punt with a group or punt privately and navigate the boat yourself. Next time that's high on the agenda.

Tourism - We did our best to do as much as possible in the time we had, which was only one night and two days. We ran around and soaked in as much as possible. Definitely recommend the botanical gardens. - £6 entry.

Otherwise any gallery, any museum and general wondering I recommend. Cambridge is definitely a bubble lifestyle. Relaxed, architectural and a nice break from London.

Indoor Gardening Experience - My First Attempt [Flowers,Fruit & Veg]

Hi guys,

So by nature I have recently gone ahead and decided to try something new.

I woke up one morning and felt in a vibe, wanted more flowers, wanted more colour in the home. So I went and followed my feelings.

Based in South London, living on the first floor I don't have access to a Garden, but I should tell you (if you don't already know) that i looooove nature and parks and gardens and the outdoors.
In my agricultural mood, I head off to Clapham High Street and purchased some seeds, soil, pots, flowers and now hope for the best.
They have all now been planted and I hope to see and show progress pics as it happens

Italy 2019 : Venice

My first trip of 2019 - Visiting Italy for the first time and how we did it.

Travel Tips for Venice & More

Hey guys so here goes the latest post.

I am super excited that 2 years since returning from Volunteering in Nicaragua I finally jumped on a plane again and went to a new country. – Italy, Venice. 24^th – 27^th January 2019 – what a way to start the year.

It was a truly a wonderful experience as I have never been to Italy and it was a country in Europe I was eagerly wanting to tick off my list. That’s not to say I won’t be returning – I have many cities I really want to go to; Rome, Florence, Milan – a road/rail trip would be perfect but we move.

Nevertheless I write this post to of course publish my fun experiences & photographs but to hope it inspires and encourages others to go.

QUICK STATS:

Approximate money spent - £400 total inc flights & hotel

Time of trip: 4 days – 3 nights

Flights - £120 approx total for 2 people

Hotel - £240 approx 3 nights (Paid on arrival)

Travel System used: Booking.com

Travel Method - Flights using Booking.com. We also reserved our hotel via this system, however we was given the option to pay upon arrival for a very small larger fee which we decided to do this option instead of buying in advance. This gave us time to save the hotel money and yet have it reserved. Win win.

Local Travel – For local travel there is a massive variety available, from water taxis, water buses, real buses etc.
Main things to point out, we went to Venice without arranging airport to hotel travel, we sort of just arrived and arranged it on the day. The travel & information desks were open late in the evening and very helpful.
Depending on the area you are staying in Venice, they recommend the best travel method and will arrange it for you immediately.

The water shuttle from airport to hotel was - €15 ONE WAY - €27 RETURN – so we went ahead booked the return ticket which secured our return to the airport in 3 days time. (Make sure you look after your ticket) The ticket is valid for 30 days so can be used to return whenever needed to return to airport area.
Once the hotel was paid and the travel back to the airport was paid, everything else was spending money. Cha ching.

Things to do: In Venice there is a variety of restaurants, bars, shops, stalls/market places, cafes. The more you have the more you can spend J lol

First thing first we heard the Gondolas can be quite expensive so we knew we wanted to do that first

Gondola – €80 flat fee for half hour, which can be shared with a group or your friends. €80 to book the gondola, however as it was just us 2 (€40 each), we spoke with the lovely gentleman and asked if any cheaper possible. He agreed for €60 (€30 each), and guided us to a local ATM to pay then and there.

Happy Days

Restaurants are open up until 11:30pm, depending on customers and how busy it is.

We got the feeling that if the customers are in and happy they will remain open, if it is empty they will close early. In which some places did.

Bars we didn’t go into any, however we saw a few spotted vibing places with good music near our hotel. We are positive there are more in the central SAN MARCO area, however we didn't go so I don't know.

Shops are many. I didn’t think there would be a H&M or things like this lol and viola, there was H&M, Zara, Tiger. We had to do some shopping lol. If not shops, there are many market stall for souvenirs, festival masks and much more.

When the sun goes down, lighting in Venice is minimal and yet it feels so safe. I remember asking the bar tender, what is the crime rate in Venice, he said 0. We was very impressed.

Ultimately as you can see Venice is a wonderful destination for some culture and new experiences. A huge place on my busket list and if you're lucky go in February to catch the festival/carnival of masks.

A Reflection of my 2018

2018 / 2019

I will try and keep it short and sweet.

In 2018 I learned a lot. I learned how to love God more, to trust in him more. I learned how to love myself 10000% more. I learned my worth (I already knew this but it grew this year)

I learned how wonderful I am, how funny I can be lol

How beautiful I am (Inside and out)

I know these all sound like such selfish traits to learn, but I honestly feel God shines on me and tells me all the time he loves me and I am wonderfully made. And sometimes, just sometimes he sends a physical human to confirm this in verbal words. But my confidence has grown and I thank God for it.

I used to suffer a bit with a few insecurities and other things, but I am strengthened.

Furthermore to 2018 I have learned the real value of friendships, socialising, church attendance, christian friends, family & pets love lol, living and working for my dreams.

I have massively in this year taken leaps in my financial life, learned to save, created dreams, achieved results and because of 2018 I have a huge hope for my future. I believe growth is possible and my way of life will increase.

I have also tithed as closely as possible which has been more than I have ever done. Since tithing I have noticed a growing abundance in my finance. It's not a lot but I am no longer without nothing and unable, in fact I can now help my family and this is a blessing.

I have learned about dating and male companionship and what I like, what I look for and what I seek for the future. Saying this 2018 was very interesting and fun lol but it is interesting what is occurring at this moment in time. Who knows what the future holds but I pray to you Heavenly Father, let your will be done.

Finally with work I have managed to stay employed all 2018 and I thank God. I am finally losing the fear of being unemployed and can look forward to seeking a new position one day in future, and continue to build financially.

That's it, I am happy with this reflection.

I want to close this with a written prayer.

Dear Lord, Thank you for this day and the life we have been given. I pray thank you for 2018 and the lessons we have all learnt, we continue to grow and you continue to guide us now and forever.

I pray you continue you bless me and all whom read this in 2019 as the years are long but your love is merciful. Please give us strength in work, remove any debts from our lives, let us build financially, let our relationships blossom and I pray Lord for peace of heart and mind. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

DIY Christmas Cards - Why & How I Make My Own Christmas Cards Every Year

Hi Guys,

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year & all that jazz.

It's been a really interesting transition into 2019 with a lot of new things happening.

This post is actually just to show you some arts & crafts and the spirit I get into every year.

So I'm not sure where this started but every year now I have taken up creating my own Christmas Cards. In the age of everyone buying things already made, I think their is something wonderful about something special, unique or hand done. I hope the people I give it to also feel the same.

CARD STYLE #1 - 2017 & 2018 Christmas Cards

HOW TO CREATE CARDS STYLE #1 (above)
With my cards above, I can't remember how I was inspired but I had card, ribbon and scissors.
That was all I needed.
I lied, I just found how I was inspired and it's all down to pinterest. Check out my Christmas inspiration for cards here.
I even made my own pins of how to do this card. View here
With a simply ribbon and scissors to create holes this was so easy and also a big tricky.
The bow was certainly tough. If you have any tips or your own inspiration to share I would love to hear it.

HOW TO CREATE CARDS STYLE #2 (below)
With these cards they were even more simple. I think next year I will have to step up.
Using simple Christmas Tape and Card paper, I simply message around with the tape placement.
Oh and some Christmas Stickers for fun effect.

I have always felt interested in arts and crafts and as I get older I hope to continue having time and being inspired and hope to pass it down for future children and more.

A discussion on Council Estates - Nostalgia, Class & More

Hey guys, I was recently invited by an old university colleague to participate in an interview style discussion. The theme being Council Estates.

Council Estate Pt 2

Being born and raised in a council flat, in South West London you never really think about your surrounding and how others view them. It was just life to me, ordinary day to day life.

Until you bring someone new to the flat and it beckons the questions: What do you think of my home?

It's also not until you are put in front of a camera and questioned on how you think being from a council estate can affect your life, if it did. If class matters, that you actually stop to think about it all....

The great thing about this topic is that it is not one that has been discussed in depth, let alone recently.

Also the more we spoke the more I had to say and honestly I find myself thinking to myself 'Oh I wish I had mentioned this, or said that'.

I think back to this home and the fact the council offered it to my parents before I was even born, how can we be shamed for something we have known since forever, or for the place you called home for so long.

To be ashamed of that, would be similar to be ashamed of my mother.

Many good memories come to mind. Of course a few bad ones, but this is life, anytime anywhere.

I hope you enjoy the video - Council Estate Pt 2. No rehearsal. Nothing but honesty.

To the guys at the Panther Crew, thanks for trusting in me to be a part of this and in turn build my own confidence.

Final note - I love my heritage and where I come from. My identity is one of most importance and we are all a product of our upbringing. It is how we use our experiences to learn from that defines us and I am so proud to be from a council estate.

Making $$$ from things at home

Hey guys, So this blog post comes from a place of prosper. A desire to do better financially and make things happen for myself. I hope it inspires you to do the same and similarly pushes me to continue.

Cha' Ching

SO, I have been doing a whole lotta reading. This is not like me, however as we get older we get interested in specific things. I have taken a large interest in finance, business, credit and overall understanding of doing better financially and managing my money.

The goal is to have multiple incomes, invest, work and of course enjoy, because what is the point of working so hard if you can't enjoy it? (Can I get a AMEN)

Anyway...

I have always been good at venturing into business, I think I get it from my father. I get an idea, run with it and not long after can generate profit.

Mini businesses such as ...Facepainting at events, doing live illustrations at events... but these mini businesses never last too long - maximum under a year. Eventually I would become tired and stop even though the money was coming in.

Nevertheless here we go again using my current skills of E-Commerce to do my own work.
Selling new things, old things, used things, unused things.

Selling things lying around at home is easier than ever, I have used the open marketplaces such as Ebay, or other selling apps such as Vinted & Depop.
Ebay has worked so well for me. The others have been a bit slower but they are picking up now.

The rule is: Find the right market place for you and get that cash honey.

Here are a few tips on selling:
TIP 1: Look around your home, is there anything you don't use/need anymore? Here's your first sale.
TIP 2: Grab a plain white background, snap a picture upload it.
TIP 3: Simple titles with great keyword use is key, try and include as much as you can in the title.
Then go all out in the description.
TIP 4: Be as honest as you can on condition and everything else, you DO NOT want people online complaining.... the worst
TIP 5: Check out competition to get an idea on price, but overall this is trial and error. You will find the right sweet spot price for you & your sale.

I Passed My Driving Test - Croydon Test Centre 2018 - London

Hey guys, so it finally happened.... YAY

I am not sure what the best way to celebrate passing your driving test is - it seems most appropriate to pass and drive around but I went for dinner and drinks, I told absolutely everyone that would listen, posted it on all social media. I mean if you can't be happy for yourself, no one else will be.

Who do I have to thank first - Our God Almighty

I don't know if you as a reader have passed your test, or are currently taking lessons or are thinking about taking the driving leap. But let me give you a few stats on my experience to save time and just in case you are nosy.

STATS:

Hours Of Lessons: 40 hours Approx

Driving School: First Time Driving School

Money Spent Total: £1000 Approx

Test Centre: Croydon, London

Pass Date/Time: Wednesday 13th June 2018 @ 8:10am

Minors: 2

Attempts At Test: 2 (Passed second time)

Times Theory Test Taken: 3

If you are learning and keen on having my instructors details (Carmel) I can provide that - just let me know :) I tried this driving school as a neighbour passed with them, and I approached him just as he finished a lesson locally.

I covered approx 40 hours of lessons from Mid August to when I passed Mid June. 10 months lol wow

The money spent is of course a large amount but in clusters of £50 per 2 hour lesson you don't feel it so much.

My instructor chose Croydon Test Centre for me, originally he decided Mitcham but as there was road works we went with Croydon. It was later that I found out Croydon test centre is the most difficult test centre in London, no joke. Pass rates are minimal apparently and the business of the road and the roundabouts just makes it a really tough area. HOWEVER people do pass first time.

As you can see I did not. I have been thinking about making a VLOG about my experience on the test and why I did not pass first time and everything else.. hopefully I get around to it.

About the theory test, I took it 3 times because I have always been keen to do my driving but I never fully committed. The theory test certificate expires in 2 years. You have 2 years to complete your driving test otherwise you will have to redo your theory which I did have to.

Finally as I mentioned THANK GOD for giving me peace and no nerves when I went for my test, it felt like just another drive and I was chatting to the examiner and everything just felt right.

But yeah, a quick post to let ya'll know the details. If you have any questions you know where I am.

Coping with searching for a new job / Job Hunting & Keeping a job

Hey all, It's been a super long time and a lot has happened (which I will get to very soon) but I feel the need to make this blog post which is long overdue. Not many people know this side of me, and those that do know how hard I can be on myself and how torturous job hunting can be in general. This post is to highlight that you are not alone, job hunting is tough, it is normal to feel down and anxious when out of work and IT WILL WORK OUT IN THE END.

JOB HUNTING

Okay guys, SO, It's no secret that job hunting these days is a pain - for real. Job hunting in London is tough in general. But there isn't a lack of jobs which is of course great in this economy.

Nevertheless being a job hunter in this London market is tough cookie.

Being a young person job hunting makes it a little more tough.

Being a young person in the creative industry - ding ding - we are onto a winner. A winner of difficulty.

However I will never put anyone down. Whatever your industry, whatever you are qualified to do, and whatever you want to do - I understand the pain it is to find a job - we have ALL been there. Trust me.

If you have a job you enjoy you are the small percentage of people that do. Enjoy it. You deserve it.

If you have a job you studied for you are also the smaller percentage - Congratulations.

This wasn't the case for me. I went to school, went to 6th form, did a foundation course, then went to university, completed my degree. Am I currently using my degree? Urm... no? LOL I don't think so.

It's sad, but it's the reality, just yesterday I ran into an old friend on the bus, and they told me they completed their masters degree months ago and tried hard to find a job and nothing. Then landed a job that was completely nothing to do with the degree. Sigh

But as I said, no judgement this is a safe zone. I am also not using my degree, I went on from this and have done simple events work, basic customer service jobs, it's only in my own personal devices that I have managed to get myself creative work such as creating my own face & body painting business and accepting freelance work.

The reason why I write this post is to explain that during my months and years of finding the ideal job position for me, eventually I thought there wasn't such a thing. I started to give up using my degree, using my creativity and just applying for anything.

MY EXPERIENCE

There was a particular time, it was after my 3 month trip to Nicaragua, I came back to my job and the company had gone redundant. But that wasn't even the big deal, I thought that was fine I will take a few days/weeks to get back into London life.

One week passed, two weeks passed, friends would ask how I am, how was the trip and I used to tell them everything, and "yeah, yeah, just taking time off now to get back in the flow".

One month passed, two months passed... "yeah, yeah, just taking time off now to get back in the flow".

Three months passed, Four months.. How long did I actually need?

I was in denial. I couldn't face the idea of telling my friends that I was jobless, on JSA, and looking for work but unable to KEEP a job. Yes that's right. It's not that I wasn't getting offers. I have always been very blessed and always received offers.

It was that every job that I got, I did not like. For multiple reasons, and my expectations were not met.

I have always been a bit awkward with certain crowds. I tried the City Office life and at first it was great, but soon enough I didn't have the right city clothes, 9 - 5 was exhausting, I didn't have enough money to even see me through the month, so I didn't go back into work. Awkward

I tried the office for a quirky company life - also awkward, I just can't imagine connecting with these members. So long story short, half way through the first day I left.

Even my family were concerned on why all these positions I would leave very quickly.

I look back now and it must be that I had some sort of social anxiety, because the work I can do easily, but when I am forced to be social in any setting it is never natural and I look for the escape route. OR maybe not, maybe I just genuinely did not like the job. I was just super low, in a terrible pit. I would wake up early, with nothing to wake up for. You lay in bed thinking what am I going to do. It is honestly one of the hardest times I have had to endure.

I prayed, I applied, I attended interviews. I kept as active as possible. I took on other part time work in between, freelancing which I have still not been paid for by the way....

This lasted from January 2017 - June 2017. 6 long tough months.

THE NEW JOB

In those 8 months since returning from Nicaragua I believe I accepted 8 - 10 jobs, all of which I did not keep. Then one day I got a random email - 'please come for a trial at 1pm'

I thought ugh, is this a scam. They didn't sign it with a name, it was just a one line email. I replied professionally requesting a telephone number to discuss as I could not find a contact number online (I also researched them)

I went to the trial (I was late) But I turned up and said I am here for the 3 oclock trial (lies). And I got taken in, and interviewed and trialed for 2 hours. At this stage of job hunting my morale was low, but I have always been great at pretending everything is good.

The role was for E-Commerce Assistant in Camden Market. I was particularly targeting these types of roles so it was right up my street and it actually got me excited. They liked me, I took on the role and 11 months later and I am still there. Proudly the E-Commerce Coordinator at Koo Style.

And I LOVE IT.

I have no one to thank other than God. He knew exactly what type of job I needed and gave it to me so easily. I took on months of finding any job, to have it simply land in my hand close to giving up job hunting altogether. He is my strength and my guide, to him I praise every achievement I complete. Whether you are a Christian or not, you can't enjoy the good without the bad.

Bad times are needed guys, so when we get it good, we appreciate just how good. Glass half full kinda vibe. lol

TOP TIPS

Ultimately though here are the top tips I have for if you are job searching and struggling with depressive spells and more:

It's okay to feel down - job hunting can make you feel this way. Try to get up and out, attend interviews across the week.
Remain positive where possible, remain positive in interviews, remain positive in your attitude. This will radiate to prospective employers and deem you as an asset to the team on attitude alone.
Quality, Not quantity - Apply for what you really want so you don't fall into the circle of any job will do. That way the jobs that do reply to you, you already want and you are all the more interested and that will also radiate to employers.
Stay Ontop. Keep applying, Keep attending interviews, Keep researching techniques.
Be active. Call the employer. Call the companies, ask if there are any roles available. Most jobs are unseen or only just being made available be a step ahead by actively reaching out - it will make you very memorable
CV - update and polish
Enjoy not having a job. I know this is wild, but you have free time. Go to the library, see your friends, go to the park. Do the free things that we never have free time to do.

MY LATEST PROJECT
ER Productions - Queen Of Carnage

For the last 2 months and a half I have worked as PR & Marketing with Eternus Rebellus Productions for the latest production 'Queen Of Carnage'. The show finally hit the stage 11th - 15th April 2017, in which I became stage manager/front of house/backstage runner whilst managing PR & Marketing. It was mayhem, and another fun exciting experience that I now have under my belt. I learned so much, I continue to build my skills, and abilities to multi task in a work/creative environment. Things to add to my CV & portfolio.

I had originally gained small PR & Marketing experience when running and promoting my own exhibitions, and for Queen Of Carnage, it was a leap of faith from Sobriety - The creative Director to trust in me for the role. In this time I have built my PR contact list, built further understanding of the stage/theatre industry and hope to return one day. For now the project is complete and I am so pleased.

The Queen Of Carnage, a dominatrix, surrounded yet alone, falls for a lowly male. In the making must there be a downfall? Not an opera but with some opera, this live art adaptation of Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas interweaves the original score, libretto & narrative through soundscape, visual art, performance, opera & digital imagery for both an immersive & seated audience.

I am so pleased to have gained this experience, I plan to either continue freelancing as such whilst also managing my day to day work/social/life. Maybe return to the theatrical realm, or continue onwards to another experience. All should be very exciting, but also very nervewracking. This month has definitely been the best of the year so far, however this year proves to be my most challenging year yet. I have so much growing to do in myself. But anyway do return in the future as during the production they filmed the full performance, so hopefully one day the performance will be available for all to see online. Till next time x

The travel diaries are back.

I have always been the nostalgic person, to hold onto receipts, cinema tickets, and there was no way I was going to change for my 3 months in Nicaragua.

In fact I decided to set the challenge to write every day, and essentially have something to recall my experience in many years times to come with specific feelings rather than just photographs. I am so happy to have upheld and completed this challenge of having a journal throughout this experience.

Different to my other travel diaries, it is less receipts and tourist tickets, more written word, feelings, daily tasks.

I wanted to show a few sketches I managed to do while away. Funnily enough I didn't manage much sketching at all, too much work and social moments, I would only pick up my diary right when I was in bed, before I fell asleep, no matter how tired I was, one push, a couple of words then zzzzz.

Some of what I have written in the journal has been pixelated because naturally this journal was my confidant for 3 months. it may be just a bit too personal and I did not want to mention any names (in case they read it).

During my placement we (my group) all agreed to write in our journal every night, but 2 weeks in, it became very clear that I was the only one to ACTUALLY maintain writing in mine every night. So I kept it going as much as possibly, and successfully done so, 12 weeks of daily memories. By the end my journal was bursting, it was the perfect metaphorical end.

P.S: The reason my first photograph of the Nicaragua map is so blurred is because one day it got wet in my bag and I left it out in the hot sun to dry. I actually forgot to collect it, and left it there and went home. THAT night it was the wettest storm we had in a long time, and when it came to writing in my journal that evening and I could not find it... I REMEMBERED!! I could not sleep. I was so upset. I was so sure my journal was destroyed, my poor written words. The next morning I ran to search for it... It wasn't there. One of the group found it and looked after it. I was so grateful. I could write so much... but Enjoy the sketches x

Nica journal 16th Sept - 08 Dec 2016 - (I cannot BELIEVE I had not realised I wrote it incorrectly.)

During my placement I realised I wanted to send a postcard, back home. However I didn't have any so I made my own. A DiY postcard. Glued paper back to back for thickness, approximately cut it down to size. Bought the beautiful stamps and got to writing.

I sent two postcards. One to my home. One to my darling. Naturally the postcard to my home made it, as I got the address correct. This is the scan above.

Sadly the one to my darling is lost somewhere in the world....

RALEIGH INTERNATIONAL - MY EXPERIENCE - Sustainable development project with Raleigh International (La Sandino, Nicaragua)

(Sept – Dec 2016) Working with organisations: CAPS, FECSA, AGUA PARA LA VIDA & RALEIGH INTERNATIONAL

Since returning back to the UK, and having to adapt back into London Lifestyle I honestly feel I will never get closure on my journey to Nicaragua, but the most I can do is to write until my heart is content, that way it has all been spilled. I have broken down the main points into cute categories should anyone want to know of my particular experience, what occurs on a Raleigh Project, or just a general interest in Volunteering and do not know how to begin the process.

The Group

7 Brits. 4 Nicaraguans = 2 Team Leaders. 9 Volunteers = 12 Counterparts Total

This formed our group - Charlie 3

Raleigh group you off into Charlie's and Echos depending on if you are enrolled into the WASH PROJECT or the LIVELIHOODS. The WASH project surrounds hygiene and sanitation while LIVELIHOODS focuses on business development and training in communities.

Once we met our Charlie, 2 days into arriving into Nicarague, we had to face the fact that this would be our group for the next 12 weeks.

Charlie 3

A group of us from so many different walks of life. None of us from the same town.

All from different parts of England, One from Northern Ireland, myself a Londoner, others from the Midlands and the rest from Nicaragua.

Such a random collection of young people, I have never been thrust into such an experience in my life. I discovered so much about myself, about others, about how the British culture compares to Nicaraguans. We were a great Charlie 3, but we did have our struggles. And towards the last 3 weeks, we started to get complacent and dare I say get ready to go home.

As great as I found the diversity in the group, It was one of my largest challenges to find my position in the group, (to find my place, how I fit in), as a Londoner I am used to diversity but have never been thrust into such a situation that I honestly struggled. Half way through the 3 months, I began to feel as though I would never find connections within my group, that I would feel a bit of an outsider, I decided to take days off and eventually felt more excluded and wanted to return back to the UK. This was officially my lowest point in the experience. With Gods strength and small support from people at home and the great Raleigh staff, I managed to overcome this difficulty and see myself through to the end. My biggest achievement yet.

The Community

The heart of the home town. "La Sandino". Our biggest memories of this journey.

Small and yet so large. Small in size, able to walk from one side to the other in 20 minutes. Large in love, care, work ethic and SPIRIT.

There was 1 school, 2 churches, a butchers, 3 shops (pulperias), a football court, 50-70 homes and more.

That football court is one of the most fun, social places I have ever been, we felt so comfortable, so welcome. I played the most sports I have ever. I played and watched many futbol matches. We played a ridiculed style of b-ball

And played the most immensely enjoyable game of futbol in the rain. Not to go home until we were completely drenched, great memories.

The family

Mama Ana, Papa Carlos, baby brother Ivansito and my big bro Carlitos. Not to mention my volunteer sister Hayley. In 3 months you really do build connections, I had never expected to feel so invested. We spent so many good times, whether it was game nights, talking until very late, saying goodnight, annoying one another. There was a real family acceptance. I understand being biased is a real issue. But honestly, I had thee best family I could have ever asked for.

The Photographs:

2 - 3 weeks into my 3 months at Nicaragua, I fell into the river, with my phone and all in my pocket.. Meaning I was cameraless for the rest of the journey.
I relied on my host/volunteer sister to take photographs of everything, and I have yet to create a dropbox and send it off to her to see the rest of the images.
The ones I have now are due to Facebook shares and the rest. They are gold in my eyes.

Coming to the end of 2016, I look to review,

The beauty that you are, and the love that you gave me.

Who even knew that this journey to you was on the cards for me,

Not even I knew until I was already too involved.

It wasn't until March/April/May/June and even July,

Where I realized there was no backing out.

I took it step by step assuring myself if anything was to go wrong,

I would not go.

But it didn't, so I did, and I cannot believe 3 months came and gone and my life is that much richer.

Richer in knowledge, in culture, in love, in development,

Richer in knowing my purpose and my actions as a young lady can be so effective.

So I've been meaning to write a blog post on what is happening, volunteering, is it for me? Is it for you? What happens when considering, joining, accepting and beyond? And any other details. So to returning visitors, thank you for following my blog, I probably follow yours also, if not do drop a comment with your link, I love to be involved with friends blogs & bloggers alike. To new visitors my name is Jennifer Ramirez. I have ran this blog for I believe 10 years+, and use it as a means to share art, events, jobs I attend, thoughts and even helpful (I hope) posts.

So in this post, I will be discussing my current journey to volunteering abroad with

RALEIGH INTERNATIONAL

How I applied:

Since leaving university, I have been dealt with the card of wanderlust.

Whilst everyone went ahead to fight and apply for the same jobs, I relaxed and enjoyed my freedom whilst also looking for a day to day job. I cannot remember the first day I considered this, but I was looking into teaching English in Italy, France, teaching anywhere away from London. Then the interest turned towards working during American Camps for kids, whilst I was doing research I came across many activites, events & projects abroad available for young adults.

EVENTUALLY I came across ICS: http://www.volunteerics.org/

I emailed them back and forth with queries, delaying my application due to work, and money and worries and nerves. I was completely on their radar but could not take the plunge.

I went to a travel show at Kensington Olympia, and I ran into ICS face to face.

I think this was the thing that pushed me.

I met the coordinators, I met returned volunteers. I asked all the questions I had to, and I got home, after a week or 2. I made the call. Took the plunge and put myself forward for assessment.

The charity I chose, of amongst approx 14 charities, volunteers can research and choose from, I chose Raleigh International. https://raleighinternational.org/

What happened during assessment:

Since accepting, ICS put me in contact with Raleigh and I had to choose from 3 options of assessment days.

My assessment day was I believe 21 June. (Day of Brexit sadly). It ran from 9am - 4pm.

During the day I met hopeful volunteers, Raleigh Team members which held activites, gave us informative talks, allowed us to ask questions, photocopied our documents and had a laugh.

We were informed on what happens whilst on placement, the activities, our duties, what would be expected of us, the lifestyle whilst in Nicaragua, everything.

They assessed us with the words that we say, and due to phone issues I had not heard from them for 2 weeks. At this point, I thought I was going to be rejected, turns out they had been trying to contact me and they gave me assessment day feedback and told me the good news.

What has happened since I accepted?

The emails started flying in. Welcome emails, congratulations email.

Start to think about how you are going to fundraise emails.

Start considering vaccinations emails.

When to fill in & return documents emails.

What training event I could attend email. And so I chose 27th - 30th July for training.

And up until then, I hadn't started fundraising or my vaccinations, but did begin with the documents etc.

What happened at Training?

Training was so much fun, it had been a long time since I felt a similar feeling.

At first completely scary, nerve wracking. Having to meet new people in a forced environment is always SO weird, but after the first half hour I was alright!

There were tents set up, A few individual tents, A few 2 ppl tents, And a few 6 ppl tents.

My first task was to find a free tent. I buddied up with Caroline from Scotland and it was almost too easy. Next was a welcome talk, to be put into our Project groups.

Mine being WASH Project travelling to Nicaragua.

The next 2 days I spent it with this group and I got to know a few people and it was great.

Highlight: The campfire on night 2.

Toasting marshmallows, singing, and laughing so hard.

Nothing like it. I also laughed endlessly talking about reality TV. Fave

Whats next?

Let me see....the date I am writing this post is 14/08/2016.

I have just sent an email update to the team leaders with what I have done and been up to.

I have yet to have x2 rabies injections, I have to pick up my malaria tablets, I have to complete my fundraising amount of £800.

I have still to receive flight information. AND finally I need to begin preparing/shopping for my kit.

Nearly every day I think about what I am going to embark on, I get nervous, I get excited, I think 3 months away is NOTHING compared to my lifetime. Then I think so much can happen in 3 months will I miss out on anything? Will things change at home? Can I handle 3 months.

Honestly I do not know, it is almost the unknown. Until I am there I will have to face myself and my development as a person, my strength, whilst also supporting a fellow host family and community in Nicaragua.

POST NOTE: Raleigh also mentioned Voluntourism as an issue raised with GAP YEAR STUDENTS running abroad to assist and have a holiday and create projects that are not sustainable.

Raleigh have mentioned this head on, and have highlighted how they are not this.

Raleigh only support communities that request help, so to not go to locations for uneeded, unwanted attention. We will be having placement in Nicaragua, and supporting by teaching, assisting, supporting as opposed to building, giving and fixing.

Raleigh believe in sustainable development, instead of building a huge tap and leaving, unsure on its effect and support to the community, we teach the community how to build, how to use, and how to maintain in order for the community to sustain itself for now and future years.

I truly believe I could not have chosen a more supportive, safe, charity to join.
