Nail Art!

I am finding more and more uses for the Digital Downloads over at Stampin' Up! Here's today's My Digital Studio creation:

Yep! Nail art! I used the butterfly image from the Strength & Hope Digital set. Just import it to your word processing document, re-size it, print, cut, adhere. My inspiration comes from my Great Aunt Wilma. She always has a flower painted on her beautifully pedicured toes. I myself have never had a pedicure but I have always liked the flowers she had so I have tried to emulate her. Well, having zero nail art talent always left me with very crude flowers on my toes (more like blobs really) but now that has changed! I can still try to be as cute as she is but have a better looking outcome!

Step By Step:
1. Paint base coat on nail; let dry
2. Apply 2 coats of color on nail - let dry between each coat
3. Apply a layer of top coat to nail and before it dries apply image and (optional) rhinestone; let dry
4. Apply a second top coat over entire nail; let dry
5. Apply a third top coat over entire nail for extra rhinestone security

Woot! Woot! Finally fun nails that I can show off with pride!

Hey folks. No My Digital Studio project today - I have a million things to do today and no time to do them on top of having a bad headache. I did, however, want to share with you a project I worked on over the weekend. It's the first 3-D project I've made with Designer Series Paper (DSP). And it's the first time I've ever made a treat bag (at least I'm pretty sure it's my first time). Here it is:

Triple Layer Punch Workshop

MDS Monday - Business Cards

It's Monday again which means another edition of My Digital Studio. Today's creation was kinda fun - I got to stretch my imagination a bit. I made sample business cards for your viewing pleasure today. Have a look-see:

I made each of these six cards in my photo editing software then printed them out onto pre-scored business cards using a business card temple in my word processing program. Easy peasy!

There are just so many things you can do with My Digital Studio. I hope you'll share your creations, ideas and suggestions with me.

One thing I do want to recommend: if you have an ink jet printer as I do, you'll probably want to put a layer of protectant (such as Krylon's Preserve It!) over your creations. These protectants "double the life of digital prints, is moisture resistant, has UV protection against fading and is acid-free/archival-safe."

MDS Monday on Wednesday

Ok so life kicked my butt on Monday and Tuesday so I didn't get this posted but I'm sure you've survived. Here's the My Digital Studio creation for this week:

Under the Weather

Today's card features the Sunset Serenade Stamp Brush Set. Here's how I did it:

1. Start by arranging your images in your My Digital Studio software program (or comparable digital program). Print on a piece of card stock.

2. Cut card stock to make card base (here I just cut my paper in half from north to south according to my photo above).

3. Using a stylus and your paper piercing pad from the mat pack, gently roll over each rain drop to indent- this is just to mark the position on the front of the card.

3. Turn the card over and run your stylus over each rain drop again but with a bit more pressure- this gives you the 3-D appearance on the front of your card.

4. If you'd like, run your stylus around the outer edge of your umbrella shape the same way you did the raindrops. This will give your umbrella a 3-D outline. You could also run your stylus over the entire image to raise the entire umbrella image off the page. I chose just to do the outline here.

The Final Result:

I have to admit I love the three dimensional feeling of this card. I have it sitting on a table right now and every time I walk past it I *have* to touch it. Kinda fun :) So what will you be creating today?

Summer Splash Birthday

Don't you just love finding multiple uses for things? Well the Summer Splash Stamp Set really has been lending itself to several ideas. I already loved this set and now I'm finding new things to do with it. It's awesome. Here I used one of the surfboards as flower petals. Kinda cute, yeah? I've also featured two of Stampin' Up!'s current in colors - my favorite, Concord Crush, and the newbie this year Wisteria Wonder. I'm so glad they brought in a lighter shade of purple and I'm not even a purple girl! This was my sister-in-law's birthday card this year and her favorite color is purple (last time I checked anyway). And even though it's purple, I still like it.

Don't you just love when birthdays and other events come all at the same time? Yeah, me either. But it has been a good opportunity for me to spread my creative wings. Let me share with you one of the many projects I made over the last few weeks.

Can we say adorable? As soon as I saw the Fox & Friends Stamp Set I knew I wanted it simply for the cuteness factor. I'm so glad I have little ones in my life so that I can have cute things. Of course there are many, MANY other reasons I love the little people in my life but they are a good excuse to purchase cute things.

This card was rather labor intensive but that could just be because I didn't have a definite plan going in. I knew what I wanted to do but not sure how to go about it. This was the result of playing around a bit. What were some of your unplanned creations?

Sweet Ride Take 2

So I was playing around again with my Pedaling Past digital download because I wasn't quite happy with yesterday's Sweet Ride tricycle card. I wish I would have had more time to play but duty called.

You can see how I changed the card slightly. Yesterday's card is in the center of this picture and the two outer cards are what I printed today. I enlarged the bike and the text as well as moving the text to under the image instead of at the bottom of the card. I am happier with today's creation. I still think they are cute & funny; I'm just a bit more satisfied with the outcome today.

I also thought I would color one in to see how well I liked it. I just used some old colored pencils that I had lying around. I'm sure the Watercolor Pencils that Stampin' Up! offers would work just as well if not better. From what I have seen the color appears to be more vibrant but I cannot attest to much more than that having not used them before.

And speaking of sweet rides...

How does this tickle your fancy? One day I will own one of your sisters. Oh yes! It will be done! And when that day has come it will be a sweet, sweet day.

Sweet Ride

It's My Digital Studio (MDS) Monday again and I have to admit that I woke up this morning not feeling very inspired at all. A quick look around the interweb changed that pretty quickly. I now have so many ideas that I don't have time to make all the things I want to make. Stupid having to go to work for a living. What's that about?!

Anyhoo, before I head out for the day I wanted to get this card out to you all. It was super quick and, I think, rather fun. Enjoy!

Emboss Resist Technique

Today's technique is called emboss resist and it's a super easy techniqe that gives you a fancy look.

For the Technique:

Stamp your image using Versamark Ink; set using heat tool.
Apply color over image and surrounding paper (using a brayer, sponging, etc).
Wipe off ink from embossed image (using a tissue, paper towel, old t-shirt, etc).

I'm currently working on a tutorial for this card so stay tuned if you'd like more information.

Color Blocking Technique

Today's card features the (super easy) color blocking technique. There are several ways to do it - by using markers, watercolor crayons, ink pads, re-inkers - but here I used ink pads.

What You'll Need:
clear-mount stamp block
ink pads (or your choice of coloring medium)
sentiment stamp or printed sentiment

What I Did:
1. I chose clear block D to use on this project and set it aside
2. I started by typing my sentiment in a word processing document on the computer. I played with the fonts and sizes until I was happy and liked the ratio of the sentiment size to the size of my clear block as well as placement on the page. Print out sentiment in black on white paper.
3. I took my Peach Parfait ink pad and inked up the clear block - yes, right on the block! - until I was happy with the coverage. You do not have to cover the entire block with ink, let your imagination dictate your project.
4. Immediately on top of the freshly applied Peach Parfait ink I used my Poppy Parade ink pad and inked several parts of the clear block. (If you ink over everything you just did, the colors are going to blend together and you won't see the variation of colors as clearly so I suggest not covering everything.)
5. Spritz the clear block with water once. If the colors don't run together as well as you'd like, spritz again. Don't spritz too much or you'll just have a watery mess.
6. Press your clear block firmly over your typed sentiment.
7. Trim your paper accordingly and adhere to card base.

So, basically: color, wet, stamp, done!

Hmmm....I think I see some tie-dye cards in my future.

GHD goes MDS every Monday!

There seems to be a lack of focus around me lately so I'm trying something new. Every Monday I'm going to make a new project using digital files and I'm calling it My Digital Studio (MDS) Monday. Naturally all the supplies I will be using can be found at Stampin' Up!'s website. For those of you new to digital design, Stampin' Up! offers a computer program called My Digital Studio that allows you to use their digital items to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind projects. MDS can be purchased either in hard copy (a disk will be sent to you) or you can also download it directly from their website. For those of you not so new to the digital game, the digital products offered are also compatible with most other digital editing software so you can start creating immediately.

Now, on to my latest creation!

Have I mentioned how much I love the Summer Mini Catalog? Stampin' Up! really has some super cute stuff in there! This card was made using the Cheerful Treat Digital Content CD which is actually a hostess benefit* (see below). I played around with the design for a while but like the final result. The only thing that was not in the Cheerful Treat bundle besides the text was the stitching. I actually used one of the items from the Play Date Embellishments bundle to give the look of stitching around the entire card as well as the individual squares. After finalizing my layout, I printed it on a piece of Whisper White Card Stock, trimmed it, then adhered it to a piece of Pear Pizzazz Card Stock. Easy Peasy!

I hope you will fall in love with digital designing, too. I think it's so fun and easy to do. Go ahead. Give it a try!
