Swarovski Signing & Gala - Orlando, FL 3-16-13

Invited as SCS (Swarovski Crystal Society) Members, we arrived in Orlando the evening before the Gala Event to a gaggle of traffic! We really didn't think we would meet with this much traffic so early, but we learned that the Canadians were in town. So was a Comic Book Convention. The traffic situation remained miserable the entire weekend.

The Signing was really nice. The entire Swarovski staff could not have been more pleasant or more accommodating. It was a pleasure to be received so happily.
While there, we learned that the Event was supposed to have taken place the weekend before, but we never found out why it got rescheduled.

The Signing 'Gift' was the Event Butterfly Bracelet (shown in our CFC Photo Galleries).
I was thrilled to have all my retired items signed without question. Swarovski staff unpacked & repacked the boxes for the Designers to sign.
Elisabeth Adamer & Verena Castalein (on her First Swarovski Signing Tour & loving it) could not have been nicer.

On each table, an abundance of Swarovski Magazines were available (the one with the Cinta Elephant on it); each Designer signed the front of the magazine, and Verena also signed the page where the 'Happy Ducks' are located.

I had the following items signed by Verena: Duck J and the Medium Siam Heart
And by Elisabeth: AE Tiger, Loyalty Tiger Cub, the infamous Peacock (yes, I told her what I thought about the 'new' crystal), Gnu, Zebra & Sister Bear.

The Gala Dinner was lovely, planned by Robin McCall, Swarovski's Event Manager.
The Cocktail Reception (cocktails not included, you had to pay for them) had Table Place Tags with the participants Names on them.
Everyone received a real live orchard lei that was placed around our necks. Nice Touch!

Prior to entering the Dining Room, the Bar crashed, but they managed to move it to the Dining area.
There weren't as many people/tables as I expected. There were about 8 or 9 tables with 9 people seated at each table. We were seated at the table with Verena Castalein, & the Swarovski Rep for the Mid-West/Southeast & Puerto Rico. The tables each had a lovely orchard vase in the same color as the lei, encircled with Swarovski Crystals.

The Dinner Gift was the Fu Ornament (so much nicer than the line drawings, also posted in the Event CFC Photo Album) & the Chopsticks we received at the San Francisco Event last year, but packaged differently in a Chinese print fabric holder.

The Designers were introduced & each had a Greeting for the crowd. Elisabeth told us about the Elephant & that Cinta means 'love', and Verena discussed her Heart creations.

Dinner consisted of a Luau Buffet with a Roasted Whole Pig, complete with an apple stuffed in his mouth.
Entertainment included a live Hawaiian Band and Dancers, who danced several different dances from the islands, and then they started choosing people from the audience 'to learn how to dance', including the Designers.

All in all, Swarovski did a really good job and treated the Collectors as they should be treated. We enjoyed ourselves.

During one of our regularly scheduled Crystal Fanatics Club (CFC) weekly Chats, I discovered, much to my dismay, that some of our members had no idea what or how a Blog functioned. So, What is a Blog anyway ? Well, you're reading one now. blog/blôg/ Noun: A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis. Verb: Add new material to or regularly update a blog. ‘From “Web log.” A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web consisting of unique entries, or "posts". The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.”‘

A blog is a personal, political or business journal published on the Web. Blogs are usually the work of a single individual, but occasionally published by a small group. Often they are focused on a single subject, and updated regularly. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other web pages and media related to its topic. In addition to the main page of a blog, Archives of previously written articles are kept and usually displayed chronologically somewhere on the face of the main page, so that you can have access to them anytime. Many blogs provide commentary on a particular subject, like the Blog for Crystal Fanatics, explicitly written for Collectors of Swarovski Crystal. Others function as more personal online diaries or as a form of brand advertising for a particular individual or company. The emergence and growth of blogs in the late 1990's coincided with the development of web publishing tools, enabling the posting of content by non-technical users without having to use html.

Most good quality blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Swarovski Retirements in 2012, LOTS of 'em!

CFC has ALL the 2012 Swarovski Retirements, just recently posted to our Website.

Included also in our CFC Photo Gallery, some of them include, the Lovlots Circus figurines, only launched about 1 year ago. We're sure these are being retired to accommodate all the crazy NEW Lovlots issues. You can see them too on our Website and in our Photo Galleries.

Some of the longest running Swarovski figurines on the list that will no longer be produced:

Four Leaf Clover, 1997
Ladybird, issued in 1995
Rabbit Sitting, also issued in 1995

The 'Changing' Swarovski Warranty

The Swarovski Warranty

As we well know, Swarovski doesn't much like dealers and websites that are selling Swarovski figurines and jewelry at prices below their suggested manufactured retail price. Swarovski receives their profit when orders are placed by retailers, and they pretty much command they sell their products at retail price. They don't like it if those businesses are willing to operate on a lower profit margin, to keep the products moving through their inventory; and in the past, they have had no compunction to close dealers/retailers down, and/or remove their Swarovski product line from stores who violate this policy.

To further keep Collectors from purchasing their product from retailers and auction sites that are not authorized to sell Swarovski (like eBay and stores who cannot obtain licensing from Swarovski), they will no longer honor the Swarovski Warranty UNLESS the figurines were purchased directly from them, or an 'authorized' Dealer. If you cannot provide a warranty card, and sales slip from an authorized retailer, showing both purchase price and date of purchase, they will not offer after-sales-services any longer.
So what does that mean?
It means they won't repair your crystal if you cannot provide such proof, so you need to consciously decide how important that warranty is to you when you purchase their products.
Because CFC is a worldwide club site, we are aware that 'warranty' policies differ depending on the country.
For example, Australia has an open, 'we'll fix it' policy with no restrictions. You just bring the product back to an authorized store, and they send it back. Normally, they do this for no charge or very little expense. The UK has a similar policy, however, there may be restrictions on the period of time you have to return the product for repair.
Here in the U.S., we would call Swarovski North America, receive an authorization number, and pay a $5.00 fee + postage to return the product to them ourselves; supposedly we can now bring the product for repair to an authorized store. In the past, Swarovski would not repair retired items or NLE's more than 3 years from the date of issue. It's unclear whether or not this policy has changed.
End Result: Pay Full Price for purchases at an 'authorized' dealer to obtain the warranty, or go without the warranty to purchase elsewhere at a more affordable price point. This is especially a more difficult decision when purchasing the more expensive issues.

Giving gifts of Swarovski Crystal could pose a problem, but supposedly Swarovski will honor 'gift' purchases by obtaining a 'gift receipt' from a Swarovski store or an authorized retailer.

As far as I'm concerned, Swarovski is just putting up more roadblocks for Collectors to consider when purchasing their product.

In 2000, the site went live on the world wide web and has served Swarovski Collectors all over the world with Breaking Swarovski NEWS, Bulletin Boards, Weekly Chats and Photo Galleries like no other on the web, filled with all the pertinent information for every Swarovski issue a collector needs to follow and track their collection.

"The CFC experience has allowed me and many other collectors to make friends with people from all over the world; it is the one most important factor for me. The site is not a profit-making organization & is supported by a small yearly membership fee & donations by its members. CFC is a labor of love for many of us", says its owner.
