Glossybox November 2012

2012-12-10T16:05:00.002-05:00

Not a bad box considering their recent price 'adjustment'. Pleased to receive the sugar scrub, blush and nail polish (such a pretty colour!). Enough with the shampoo/conditioner duos and handcream, glossybox! So boring! I hate the lipgloss though, what am I going to do with a yellow glittery lipgloss? I'm not 13 anymore.
Will have to see where this box goes...

Beauty Box 5 November 2012

2012-12-01T23:12:00.001-05:00

Hi guys! I received my BB5 box this week, this is what I got:

Swagger Eyeshadow
Envie De Nuef Eye Mask
Global Goddess Upgrade Complexion Face Primer
Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion
Model Co Lip Shine in "Tease"
$10 Gift Card to "My Name Necklace"

My thoughts

Wasn't that impressed with the box to be honest, but it is still a useful box. I like the eyeshadow, it's a gorgeous glittery brown colour but when I tried it on, there was quite a bit of fall out. Still, I was happy to receive brown, as some girls got purple/blue and that is way too bright for me!

I am yet to try the eye mask, not too sure what its purpose is but i'll give it a try soon. I tried the face primer and it is pretty awesome! Comparable to Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer! May repurchase in the future! The cetaphil lotion was good. Absorbed quickly but not a very exciting product to me. I didn't like the lipgloss though: it is too sticky. I received it in a previous Glossybox and although it smells fantastic (strawberry-esque), I don't like lipglosses at all. So, I hope to be able to sell/trade this with someone. Finally, I took a look at the website and as anticipated, the necklaces were quite pricey. However, I was able to buy my Secret Santa gift to my coworker, and ordered this necklace for her. Hopefully she will like it. Anyway, I cancelled BB5. Although this was my first box, I need to chill out and stop spending money on these boxes. I have 5 to come in December!

Were you pleased with this months BB5 box?

Julep Introductory Box - Bombshell

2012-11-24T23:16:00.003-05:00

This week I received my introductory box from Julep! Guess how much I paid? 1 penny plus $3.99 for shipping. After taking a quiz online, I chose the bombshell intro box as I was attracted to the colours. After approximately 12 days, I received the box all the way from Seattle!

I received Gloria, Viola, Julep Essential Cuticle Oil and two pots of glitter for the nails. I sampled both colours tonight and I liked Viola. It is a deep, dark purple which appears almost black. I didn't like Gloria that much though. It was just your average pink colour. I am excited to try the glitter though.

After this first box, I don't know if I would pay full price for Julep monthly. Usually, it is $20 for three polishes, plus a bonus item or two. If you want your introductory box for 1 penny, use the promo code COLOR2012. Don't forget to use 6257251 as the invitation code!

Topbox November 2012

2012-11-15T10:50:00.001-05:00

I've recently became a big fan of beauty boxes. I have signed up for 5 different boxes (having a credit card, the internet, and an addiction made my balance go way down) and intend on posting reviews for each for these boxes.

In case you are not familiar, Topbox is a subscription beauty box. Each month, we are sent 4 samples of deluxe products. The beauty of this service is that it allows you to try new things, without the hefty price tag involved. If you like a product, then you know you can buy the full size product on their online store or other places.

Topbox has just become $12 monthly, or $13.56 with tax and shipping included. They JUST increased their price, unfortunately, and for the past year they were $10 monthly, or $11.30 with tax and shipping. Fortunately, this $2 price increase is not substantial, and the variety of products they deliver has proven to be worth it the increase. This months box is the last box priced at $10.
Anyway, without further ado, here is this months box! I got box #2

Pandora's Nail Polish and Perfume Duo
Benefit's They're Real Mascara
Cuccio Naturale Butter Lotion

Overall, I was very pleased with this months box. I have been curious to try this mascara, and the nail polish and perfume duo is such an interesting idea! I don't have that colour of polish so I'm glad to receive it. The lotion also seems awesome. It has such cute packaging and the ingredients seem toxin-free.

Price: $11.30
Value: Nailpolish and perfume: $24.50 + Mascara (full size: $29 for 8.5 g. Sample size: 3 g) + $10.23 + Lotion (Full size = $18.95 for 240 g. sample size: 24 g) + 1.90 = $36

Great value, although this is additional information for you guys. I am more interested in the quality of the products as opposed to 'worth'.

If you're interested in joining Topbox, join NOW. Their waitlist is 4-6 months long. I had to wait approximately 6 months before they had room for me. By the way, if you want to join, comment your email address and I will send you an invitation! If you don't feel comfortable posting down below, email me at polinapel@hotmail.com your email address for confidentiality!

What did you get in your box?

50 shades of grey rant - spoilers

2012-06-14T13:29:00.001-04:00

Holy. Shit.
My initial reaction after completing the first book in this trilogy. The book was every bit as steamy as everyone has been saying. I wasn't planning on reading it, but my supervisor at work raved about this book which encouraged all my fellow co-workers and I to read it also.

So, while this book was well written and every girls fantasy (who doesn't fantasize about some good looking billionaire to pick us out and shower us with gifts?), it had its flaws. #1 IT REMINDED ME SO MUCH OF TWILIGHT IN SOME PARTS. *~spoiler alert*~ How?

Christian Grey is drop-dead gorgeous, impeccably rich, dark and mysterious. Remind you of anyone?
Christian buys Ana so many gifts, including a cell phone, a lap top, a fancy car, expensive first edition of books... etc. the list goes on
She is some bumbling awkward woman who TRIPS over herself and shows a remarkable amount of clumsiness
She drives a really old car, one Christian claims to be 'dangerous' which is why he sees fit to buy her a new car, against her complaints

The similarities were cringe-worthy. No-one wants to be reminded of Twilight while reading the feminine substitution for porn. That is what annoyed me about this book.
Otherwise, it was a good book. I need to get my hands on the second one which is being passed around at work as well. We'll see how that goes.

BTW, HI GUYS! Long time no see! Maybe some photos will come soon but I don't try with clothes much these days.. or my hair. I recently cut it shoulder length to rid myself of those nasty split ends.. and looks-wise, I only really try to dress nicely for parties. I am suddenly lazy.
So back to the main topic - What did you think of this book?
P.S. They are making a movie and trying to decide who Christian and Anastasia should be. My opinion? Ian Somerhalder and Amanda Seyfried. Duh! They would just be so hot together.

oh hai guys

2010-12-04T15:19:00.001-05:00

Just dropping in to let you know I'm still alive. I have Florida pictures to upload but that would mean sorting through them, and as I have 5 chapters of Wuthering Heights to read, and a monologue to memorise, that's probably not the best idea.
Here's a picture of me being all cute and stuff. We have to submit photos for the grade 12 baby photos page of the yearbook.

I enjoy the vintage feel of the photo. Wasn't I cute? Somewhere along the way, something happened and I turned into this fine beast in the front.

Hot damn.

k I'm rly should go. peace world <3

my brother and I

2010-11-16T11:13:00.000-05:00

These pictures are from the day before I went to Florida (10th nov) of my littlest half brother Edward and I. He's 4. and obviously adorable.

Friday night lights

2010-11-14T10:47:00.001-05:00

These pictures are from 'Friday Night Lights' (29th October) which is this yearly football event at my school. Even though I hear in America football games occur every week..

My friends and I in our shirts/jerseys.

Cheerleaders!

It was super cold. We had to cuddle to keep the feeling in our limbs. Brr.

Our team symbol right there ^
Unfortunately, the senior team lost. However, the junior team did win (when they played, in the daylight).
But, a decent, americany night. Just one of those things you have to do while you're in high school in North America.

Florida's been decent enough I guess. Spending all this time with my mother is annoying me though, I had forgotten how slow she is. I know I shouldn't be saying this but it really peeves me to be on a vacation somewhere, waking up early, and then leaving the house/hotel at like midday. What a waste of several hours. I shouldn't be bored. I'M IN FLORIDA. Raaaaaage. At least the weather is nice. Back home right now in Ontario it's 10 degrees. Here, it's 21. Win. K, more tomorrow, probably.. which is lame. I'm in Florida and updating my blog? ......

carnevil dance

2010-11-13T11:30:00.002-05:00

So, on the 28th of October my school had a "Carnevil" halloween dance. My friend Sophie and I dressed up as Amazon/jungle girls. Another girl dressed up as a school girl, and Sam and Melissa were 80's girls. Here are a few pictures from the night.

Also, I should note that I'm in Florida right now, visiting my mother, who is visiting a friend of hers (normally my mum lives in Australia). Yesterday we went to Universal's Islands of Adventures. We were in Hogsmeade, ate at The Three Broomsticks where I drank delicious mugs of butterbeer. The best! Less than one week until Part 1 of The Deathly Hallows is released. Stoked! I'm in Orlando until Tuesday afternoon.
Peace.

Niagara on the lake Fall edition

2010-10-08T17:47:00.003-04:00

Remember way back in June when my parents and I went to Niagara on the Lake to see The Cherry Orchard for the Shaw Festival? Last weekend we went back to see An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde. The play was very funny, with lovely costumes and British accents galore! This time, the weather was quite different, it being super cold! Of course, I snapped some photos, sans digital camera and instead with my D90!

We parked right by a cemetery.. speaking of parking, I still need to get my G1. Lazy Polina is lazy.

Remember this dress? Well, here's how I spruced it up to make way for the chilly Autumn temps..

No, I did not place my camera on a tombstone and proceed to turn on the timer to take this shot..................

How cute are the dangling lights?!

Inside the gift shop, loving the lighting..

Cutest necklaces ever. Musical notes, monkeys and check out that dog! aww!

Inside a wine tasting store.

Oh how punny!

<3 Canada, eh? :)

Me, dad, stepmum..

Cutest umbrellas of life. Wanted to get one badly!

The sunset on the way home was so beautiful, but impossible to get a good photo of in a moving car. But, I tried..

I like these!

Back to catching up on tv shows I missed this week due to procrastination of my study and homework which meant late nights. Gah, so tired.

Polina.

the sky

2010-10-07T19:19:00.001-04:00

Last week we had some really pretty sunsets, and I couldn't resist taking several (hundred) photos of it on each individual day. Turned out liking the pictures, so I figured the world of blogspot would (might!) be interested. It's a 4 day long weekend over here now due to Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. My family and I are going to Niagara Falls for a couple of days and doing family-type activities. Tonight my friends and I are seeing "Easy A" and then I'm staying over at my mates, so that should be nice. Have a good weekend everyone!

the stones

2010-10-01T21:04:00.003-04:00

denim shorts - costa blanca

black tights - winners

belt - thrifted

boots - nine west

so yesterday i bit the bullet and finally got a trim. i guess i should be embarrassed about this but i hadn't had my hair cut since the end of January - i'm trying to grow my hair out! anyway, a few weeks ago i finally had some sense knocked into me regarding the state of my hair. it was split ends galore! so i've had 2 inches chopped off and even though it feels amazing and so clean, these pictures are making me miss it already! ah well, another 4 months and it should be grown back, but in much better condition!

over summer my family was growing fruits and vegetables and mint - here are some raspberries i snapped even though most of them are almost gone as winter is making its way into Oakville :(

and normally i strongly dislike spiders, but this was in our backyard and it was pretty cool!
this weekend i am studying for a chemistry test that i have on monday and then on sunday my family and i are going to the theatre to see "An Ideal Husband" by Oscar Wilde. i think it might be in niagara falls or stratford... not sure which one right now. anyway, i'll be sure to take plenty of pretty fall pictures as we'll be spending the day there (not sure where but regardless, both places are nice..)
yay for 1st day of october, feels like a fresh start, especially with my new hair! :-)

what are you doing this weekend?

florals and rain

2010-09-29T20:58:00.005-04:00

these pictures are from Monday. in the greater Toronto area the weather was completely miserable that day, rain and such. i really didn't feel like taking photos outside so I borrowed my 8 year old brother's bedroom, so excuse the childish decor such as stars on the wall and planes hanging from the ceiling.. :) i also didn't take these using my d90 as the battery was flat, and the switch back to my digital camera brings tears to my eyes... damn that grain!

floral dress - forever 21
earrings, locket necklace - h&m boots - nine west
blue batwing top - thrifted by my sistertights - winners

and can I just say that i enjoy this combination of blue and orange... anyone else with me? love the colours together! in other news, i need to get a trim, really, really badly. ~~perhaps~~ definitely this weekend!

Goodbye summer

2010-09-27T17:18:00.000-04:00

These pictures are from last monday, when temperatures reached 27 degrees. In a span of a week, it's become super cold and I'm lying here wearing leggings, pants, a sweater, socks and a beanie, listening to the rain outside. I am vastly disappointed as I was really enjoying warm weather!

black tank, printed skirt - thrifted

giraffe necklace - forever 21

gladiators, pink nail polish - h&m

gold ring - family heirloom; passed down from my grandmother to me

Anyway, guess I better go and do some homework.

2010-09-22T19:21:00.003-04:00

In August, after visiting Philly for 4 days, my father and I headed on over to NYC for a couple of days! Here are some pictures from my first trip to the big apple!
these pictures were taken the 20th and 21st of August 2010.

leather jacket, nude tights, ring - h&m

floral dress (worn as skirt) - vintage, made by aunt, passed down to me

blue top, scarf - thrifted

boots - nine west

bracelet, earrings - american eagle outfitters

Not gonna lie, I really liked today's outfit, and now that I've finally gotten boots I can wear dresses as it gets cooler! Those boots were $200 and as a 17 year old student with no form of income other than from my father, I'm sure you can understand why you will be seeing these boots a lot soon.. Gotta make the wear worth it, and they're so versatile.

Side note: my hair is getting so long. I looove it. But this weekend I'll be getting a trim.. my split ends are insane :( In the end though, it'll look better.

Before Summer began, I imagined myself to make more effort in dressing with skirts and such, as I find skirts and dresses annoying to wear at school! Well, considering my lack of posts over the last three months, my original plan did not happen at all. Being back at school has kinda forced me to be a little more creative, as well has wanting to look nice for my fellow ahem, should I say.. goodlooking.. peers :-)

2 weeks into grade 12 and I'm excited! My first period is a spare, so instead of the usual 8:00 am start, I now begin at 9:30! This has made a REMARKABLE difference in my life! I am no longer yawning constantly and sleepy, nor am I freaking out about going to bed close to 12 anymore (6 and half hours sleep was never desired). The wierdest part of it all is that I don't actually fall asleep till 1am most nights, which would NORMALLY make me a zombie the next day, but has had no effect on me whatsoever! I love my new timetable!

This semester I am taking Chemistry, English and Drama, so it has a good combination between stressful and fun. I have friends in all of my classes, and managed to make a few more! I'm really loving my senior year so far..

In less than 4 months I will have to decide what I want to do with my life. Can't wait :l Next weekend is the Ontario University Fair which I'll be attending to see which universities to apply to!

This has been a lot. I feel as though I'm writing to myself though. Maybe that's a good way to go about it...

TGIF!

Have a great weekend everyone!
