Wow!! It's Anita here, and can I say that all of us at Team Cowgirl Up! were blown away by the response last week? First off, week #1 kicked off with over 180 links, and the quality of projects was stellar. Let me just say, YOU ROCK!! I know there are lots of parties out there, and we are so excited you have taken the time to join us.

It was very difficult to select just a few projects to feature, but here's some that I really loved.

Head over Heels shared lots of wonderful ideas for her Texas country wedding. (I do love a wedding!)

Coastal Colors showed off her side table redo with this great French graphic.

Coastal Charm saved mega-bucks with her thrifty new DIY $240 floor!

Craft Berry Bush shares how she made this wonderful winter wreath in a white frame.

French Country Cottage repurposed a garden table, making a new table top. (I love a woman who can use power tools.)

A Few Pennies used odds and ends to create some new va-voom.

Savvy Southern Style showed gave us a tour of her dreamy, serene bedroom.

Our first party was such a success, I am excited to see the ideas shared this week.

Before & After: Playroom to Family Room

Last week I wrote about the 'evolution of a home'- as the people inside your home change and grow, your home must adapt. Your home is for you. So find a way to make it work for your family!
With that being said, we just finished making our upstairs more 'useful' for our family. Last year I spruced it up and made it into a sweet a playroom for the girls. I organized the toys, stenciled the wall, and added some of my favorite colors: tan, black and white.

But over the year, our family changed and we found ourselves needing another living space. Another 'family room' to watch tv, play games, read, and relax. So we started moving furniture around, donating some toys to Goodwill, painting, building, and doing a little 'upcyclying'.

We started with a photo I found on pinterest from allthingsthrify.com- it was a turquoise frame around a mounted flat screen tv. And then it took off from there! I am fortunate that it's winter- my husband is always looking for a good project during the 'off season' of lawn mowing :)

Jeff used L-brackets to build a mounting kit. You can buy one at the store pre-made for around $100, but following a tutorial he found on you tube, he built our tv mount for $16. The wall that the tv hangs on backs up to attic space. So he was able to easily run the wiring behind the wall.

We found a great frame at Hobby Lobby- half off!- and painted it turquoise. Then Jeff added some wood to the back so it would hang flush with the wall.

Once the tv was in place we still needed some kind of furniture to hold some toys, the dvd player, and the fios box. I looked for a dresser for weeks and just couldn't find anything. Then one day, as I was standing in front of Maisy's changing table-- it hit me. She is 2 and half, and will hopefully be potty-trained soon. Why not move her changing table out of her room and into our new family room?

Jeff added a decorative scroll that we found at Lowes to the front and then nailed bead board to the back. Then we spray painted it silver. Changing table to media console! Pretty good 'upcycle' don't ya think?!

Next we worked on the bookshelves. I have long admired bookcases painted with a pop of bright color. Originally I wasn't sure what color to do. I love turquoise, but I thought it might be too much since the frame around the tv already boasted that bright blue. But when I found this rug at World Market, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Add a little orange! Wouldn't the people at Pantone be proud of me? :)

Jeff decided that painted bead board would be easier to install than acutally paint the inside of our book case. Plus if we ever change our minds, it is easy to pop it out. I like the texture that the bead board adds too.

The accessories for the book case were all found by "shopping our home". I have decided I really can't give anything to Goodwill (except for outgrown clothes or toys) because I just might use it again. This project was the perfect example of that.

But I am glad that other people are donating their furniture to Goodwill-- because that is where I found this adorable solid wood coffee table for $10 and this great cane side table-- also $10. All they needed was a coat of new paint.

I added two new pillows from World Market and then used pillows that were in various places in the house. I moved around our pre-existing art and add a new piece (the tree and bird) from Hobby Lobby.

Overall I was pretty surprised at how many things I already owned to put the room together. And what we didn't have, we found via thrifting. Beside the World Market and rug and pillows- the room was pretty inexpensive!

And in case you are wondering- since the changing table moved out of Maisy's room, we were able to rotate some of the bigger the toys out of the new family room and into the girls' rooms. Win-win!

Love Letters

With Valentine’s right around the corner, love is on my mind. These days that four-letter word conjures up images of sloppy, sticky kisses from my two-year old and carefully written, but adorably misspelled, love letters from my Kindergartner. I think of my husband, our Rock, laughing with my girls as they put on silly shows in the living room after dinner. I feel like my heart is overflowing with joy. And as commercialized as Valentine’s can be, I also know that it is a day that can be meaningful too. February 14^th can be more than just candy and cards, it can be a day to remember and cherish all those who fill our hearts.

For me, the best way to show someone how much you love them is easy—just say it! But if the right words seem out of reach at the moment, the next best way is through old-fashioned love letters. Perhaps a letter can be even more powerful because it is pen to paper. A love letter is something you can hold onto even when the years tick by and that precious toddler turns into a precocious teenager. And at those times, if scowls seem to be given out more easily than hugs, we can turn to our love letters and remember.

My love letters for my little ones will be written on plain white paper with a simple red pen. I will describe what I love about them at this age, this time in their lives. I will record what they mean to me and why. I may even start with “I love you because….”. I want to write down what they love to do and who they are. Interests, friends, and favorite foods and games. I will write it all down. Then with a few red heart stickers and maybe even a kiss, I will seal it.

For my husband, I know he would prefer a text or a quick email. But not for Valentine’s Day! No, he is getting the real thing too. I will probably start it the same way, “I love you because….”. I will tell him why I love him at this time, at this season in our relationship. And when we are old and ‘gray’, I will have the words to remind me of how far we have traveled together.

I’m not sure how my love letters will be received. But I think teaching my girls the importance of telling people how you feel is part of my job as a mom. And in our age of quick, flashy, fast technology, I want them to know how special a real letter makes people feel. My husband isn’t one for ‘mushy love’- but with life’s hectic schedule, I know this letter is long over-due. Even husbands need to know they are loved!

My love letters will be passed along through a simple ‘mailbox’ I fashioned out of felt and hot glue last year. But anything can work, a basket tied with a red ribbon or even an old shoebox covered in paper.

And who knows, maybe, just maybe I will get lucky. Maybe my loved ones will write me back.

Okay, truth time, raise your hand if you know exactly what you are doing. Put that hand high in the air if you have it all figured out, if you are totally sure you are doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing. Point those fingers up to the sky, if at any give time, you can be totally sure in saying "Yes, I am the expert. I know it all!"

Not sure if your hand is in the air, but I can tell you that mine is not :)

I "dabble" in a variety of things- family, parenting, friendship, sewing, photography, running, writing, crafting, decorating, selling my creations... But I will be the first to tell you, half the time I feel like I have no idea what I am doing. Whether it is trying to teach my daughter to use the potty, figuring out how to resolve conflicts with friends, or even buying fabric-- I have those moments when I think, "Am I really qualified to be doing this??!!"

But I charge ahead. I try things that scare me, I push. Throughout life we will each try new things, head out on new adventures, and hopefully take a few risks. And it is impossible to set out on those journeys if we wait until we 'know exactly what to do'.

There is really no way to ever achieve that 'expert' status. Sure there are other people who we might feel are more qualified for the job because they have a fancy title or cute kids or really shiny shoes. But in the end, no one knows better than YOU. You know you best. You know what you really want. You know, deep inside, that YOU can do it. It's just that sometimes believing in ourselves is a little scary.

It makes me think of my daughter on her first Girl Scout troop outing. All the girls in the troop were proudly wearing their vests (which didn't have any patches on them yet) and their little blue beanies- some with the tags still on. To say this group was 'green' would be an understatement. But never the less, they were a proud bunch. The task at hand was to help select and wrap gifts for local children. And just like that, each one of those Kindergarten girls stepped up to the table and began working, no hesitation. When asked if they needed any help, my daughter confidently replied, "No, we're Girl Scouts, this is what we do!"

At that moment it dawned on me, these girls had recieved no formal 'Girl Scout' training. No one had labled them as experts-- they hadn't even earned one patch yet! Instead they just decided that was who they were and what they wanted to do. Maybe the new uniform made them a little more brave, but what it came down to was that they declared themselves to be worthy and they did the job. They reached down inside themselves and listlend to that voice that said, "You can do it!". And they did.

-or to start a new business
-or to take that class
-or to try a hobby
-or to read that book
-or to talk to that friend
-or to have family over for dinner
-or to plan that date
-or to make that phone call
-or send that email
-or to take that first step

Do it now.
The timing will never be right.
You will never be sure you have it all figured out.
You will always be a bit scared.
But listen to that voice inside, because You are enough.
This is 'What You Do.'
You've got this.

The Evolution of a Home

No one ever moves into a 'perfect' home. Even if you custom built your dream home, it would take a few years to get it just right. Things like curtains, rugs, accessories, and of course the furniture, take years to get 'just right'.

And then, just when you think you've got it-- something will change. Children's age, your hobbies, your husband's job, or just your taste in decor will shift slightly. As the people in your home change, the house will need to evolve to meet the needs of the occupants. Maybe a guest room will have to be changed into a nursery. Maybe your husband will allowed to telecommute and thus need a home office. Maybe your mother will move in and now your kiddos will have to share a room. Or maybe you just get sick of something and want a change.

Remember when I was drooling over that giant red brick 'diamond in the rough' last month? Well it got us thinking we needed more space. Our home is an open floor plan- anyone else have one? I love it because it is perfect for entertaining. It flows, it allows conversation between the kitchen and the family room.

But since it is open, sometimes it feels like we are always in the same room. We eat, hang out, watch tv, play games all in the same room. Now it is a lovely room and I adore it, but it got us thinking... how could we better utilize the rooms in our home? Where else could we hang out when we needed a change of scenery? And what were we doing with all of that other space???!!!

Then we went upstairs and there it was-- our big playroom. Last year I had lovingly redecorated it. At that time I took it from the 'catch-all' room to a pretty space for the girls to gather.

But over the year, since it was just the playroom, no one over the age of 5 ever used it much. Sure we would sit on the floor and play dolls or kitchen with the girls. But it was never a spot I would go read a book or that my husband would use to watch movies. The room 'did was it designed to do'- it functioned as a space for the girls to play. Trouble was, the little table and chairs, the new puppet stage that Santa brought, the baby dolls... they weren't really creating a space that the entire family could all use.

That's when the lightbulb went off. It seems obvious now as sit down and I write this, but seriously why were we devoting an entire living area to Barbies when we could be using it as another family room?!

So that began our latest 'home evolution'. Use the space in our home for what we actually need!

Most of the work is done, but you know me, I like a big reveal. So you're going to have a wait a bit to see it. In the meantime, think about your home. Are you getting the most out of your 'square footage'? I have to say, with our 'new upstairs family room', I honestly feel like we are living in a bigger home.

A few small changes can really make you fall in love with your home all over again! What kind of evolution is needed in your house?

New Year, New You?

On December 4^th, I willing ran 13.1 miles through the city of Dallas in the pouring rain--- oh and it was about 40 degrees outside. Sound strange? I agree. A few years ago, I would have ventured to say it was crazy. But these days, that is my idea of fun. So much so, that I was willing to shell out $90 and wake-up at 4:30 am to participate!

Now that the New Year is here, we are all looking for ways to improve our lives. We want to look better, feel happier, and find something that will magically put everything into place. For me, that thing has been running. Want to know more? Then join me today at "Running to be Skinny" as I share how I started running and what led me to complete two half marathons in 2011.

The Ultimate Super Bowl Menu

I need to be banned from the computer in the evening. Or at least block all of you who keep pinning food! It seems like everyone that I follow on Pinterest is looking at food around 9pm. And of course it's not fruit and veggies. The photos that keep popping are gooey, carby, and oh so fatty. Yum.

Usually I have to suffer, knowing that there is really no good reason for me to make any of those recipes. But next week, that will all change. And even though I am not a huge football fanatic, I will happily invite over everyone I know-- just so I can make a few of these delectable treats.

Crafty How To: Upcycled Heart Wreath

We have been saving toliet paper and paper towel rolls for a few weeks. My kindergartener has an eye for treasure. And when you have a crafty kid- paper, crayons, and markers don't last long. She is not exactly 'green' when it comes to her paper use :) So, I like the idea of re-using or upcycling items for crafting. One afternoon while little sister was sleeping and I was knee deep in fabric for headbands, Afton decided we needed to put those cardboard rolls to good use.

We put our heads together and came up with a this-- an "Upcycled Valentine Wreath".

Afton cut the tubes in 1.5-2 inch pieces. Then we set them into the shape of a heart. Finally I helped her hot glue them together. We used about 30 pieces to create the heart. You can pinch the piece at the bottom to make the 'point' of the heart.

If you decide to make one, I would keep it about the same size. Any larger and it would be too heavy to hold it's shape.

The project was quick and easy- the perfect kind to make with your little Valentine. The hardest part was deciding where to hang it.

Let the Good Times Roll: Mardi Gras

We lived in New Orleans for almost 4 years. In fact, that is where my Afton was born. New Orleans is really like no place else. The food, the land, the parties, the people- all extraordinary. My husband, who is a Virginian by birth, fell in love with the culture. He can now be seen wearing his Saints and LSU gear so often, people often think he is a native Louisianan :)

Last year we drove to Shreveport to celebrate the season with a few of Jeff's co-workers. This year we will undoubedly do the same- especially because my sister now lives there. If you are from south Louisiana, then you know that the Shreveport version is a bit tamer than the New Orleans scene. But it is family friendly and a lot of fun. If you live within driving distance, check out the parade schedule here. Everyone needs to experience Mardi Gras at least one time!

I simply chose one, printed it, and then put it in a cute red frame from Hobby Lobby. I am going to pair it with a gift card to Sonic. Afton's kindergarten teacher has been amazing, going above and beyond in every situation. I hope this little treat will let her know how much she is appreciated-- and that it puts a smile on her face too!

Dream House

I love my house, I mean I really love my home. But do you ever pass by a house and wonder what it would be like to live there? Like most of you, I pretty much drive the same path everyday. And driving along the same roads day in and day out, I noticed this home.

A large, traditional brick home. Something about the structure or the way that it sits on the property, something about it caught my eye. I liked the large windows and the sturdy lines.

And so as I would pass by it, often 4 times a day, I found myself daydreaming about the rooms inside. Was there thick crown molding or rich wood floors? Did the foyer open up into a large staircase with a glittering chandelier. Crazy I know, but sometimes driving back and forth to church, dance, gymnastics, and the store... my mind tends to wander.

Then one day I passed by and saw a 'for sale sign'. Automatically I screeched to a halt and scribbled down the address, anxious to look up the property online at home.

Well one thing led to another and before I knew it, I was walking through the front door of my 'dream house' with the realtor.

Turns out the house had a quite story. From my understanding, the 6,000 plus square foot home was under foreclosure. And before the owner lost his home to the bank, he decided to take it apart, piece by piece. So although the beautiful framework of the home still stood, the details had been removed. And when I say "details" I mean- every cabinet, appliance, shred of carpet, and light fixture. He had also let a leak turn into horrible wood rot. This home was a diamond in the rough.

But I saw beyond that. I saw the grand stair case, the still-in-tact marble floors, and the large rooms. It was 3 stories, 6 bathrooms, fireplaces, and a giant backyard. The first floor was all about the family. Al sprawling den, an open kitchen, two staircases, a huge butler's pantry, an office, plus formal and dining and living rooms. The second floor housed the bedrooms. The master bedroom included a sitting area, wet bar, fireplace, and its own walk-out patio. The third floor had space for a playroom, sewing room, family study, media room and more.

I loved the details and unique features of the home. It was built in the late 80's but had the styling of a period home. The main office had beautiful wood built-ins, the family room was floor to ceiling windows and the picture frame molding and high ceilings were amazing. To me it was a blank canvas- the ultimate 'crafty how to' for a girl that likes projects. It was something that couldn't be found in just any neighborhood on just any street. It was a one-of-a-kind and it was waaaay under-priced.

I sped home and tried to sell my husband on my new find. It would be a house we could gut and re-design, it was a foreclosure so the price was cheap!!, and it would give us a lifetime of fun DIY projects. It was the kind of home that we would always live in. The property was spacious, filled with trees. We could honestly take years adding our own touches and creating the place of our dreams.

So he did indulge me. He even made a few calls about rehab loans, contractor quotes, and such. But when we really looked at it-- my dream didn't match up to the reality. My gorgeous brick home (which I planned on painting white and adding black wood shutters) actually had a rotting pier and beam foundation, a basement full of water, a crumbling retaining wall, all over wood rot, destroyed windows, old A/C units.... and the list went on and on. The final nail in the coffin was that even though we could buy the house for a dirt cheap price, once improvements were made, the cost of the repairs and the taxes on the home would be astronomical.
Sigh. Reality bites.

:(

I know, I know. Cleaning, heating and cooling, even furnishing a 6,000 square foot house would be insane. But for me, there is just something about that house.

This week the 'for sale' sign came down and contractors have been there everyday. Even though my name isn't on the deed now, I intend to keep an eye on it. Maybe I can make friends with the new owners :)

Crafty How To: Lovely Fabric Flowers

I always tell my daughters, “It is such a fun time to be a girl!’ Just take a look at current fashion and home decor trends- all designers are showing feminine ruffles, over the top sequins, and fabulous flower embellishments on just about everything. These beautiful, romantic touches can be added to simple items to give even the least expensive items that ‘luxe’ feel.

My current favorite embellishment is the fabric flower- easy to make and even easier to personalize. And even if you aren’t the ‘flower wearing’ kind of girl, you will find a way to incorporate this pop of color somewhere in your life. Fabric flowers are just constructed from bits of fabric, but look at how these little details can make a huge impact with their texture and color.

Add a fabric flower to a pillow or lampshade. Store-bought home décor items can be transformed into custom pieces with a handmade flower. Or create an “Anthropologie-inspired” look with vintage flowers. Flowered bracelets, necklaces, hair clips, headbands and brooches are easy ways to dress up a t-shirt and jeans. Finally dress up a gift with a simple, but special fabric flower. Backpacks, bookmarks, hats, even tote bags- they are all made better with a handmade accessory.

To make your own fabric flowers, you will need just a few items. Gather together:

-about ¼ yard of your favorite fabric

-fabric scissors

-hot glue

-a circle to use as template (The lid of a jar, a spool of ribbon, a glass etc.)

-felt

-fun embellishments (buttons, rhinestones, jewelry)

-brooch pin or alligator clip

-hot glue

Before you begin, here are a few things to consider.

- When choosing your circle template, remember the bigger the circles, the bigger the flower. To add interest, create larger circles for the bottom layer and then smaller circles for the top layer.

-Bold colors and patterns make great accents.

- Alternately, neutrals can add be just as beautiful as they add texture.

-Knit and cotton fabrics make for romantic, soft flowers. While felt, upholstery fabric, and printed duck cloth create sturdy, firm flowers.

-For a 'messy/vintage' flower, try scrunching or pinching the fabric as opposed to carefully folding it.
-I think it's also cute to make several small flowers and cluster them together on a brooch.

Step 1: Cut a circle out of felt to serve as your base. (If your felt color does not coordinate with your fabric color, cover the felt with a circle of the fabric so it won’t show through!)

Step 2: Using your choice of circle template, cut out 6-12 circles of fabric. The more fabric circles you use, the fuller the flower.

Step 3: Fold the circles in half and then in half again. Then glue each one closed and into place on top of the felt base. For a ‘messy’ look, pinch the circles closed instead of folding them. For an even ‘shabbier’ look -rub the edge of the fabric with your hand to fray it a bit.

Step 4: Choose a coordinating fabric and cut out 6-12 more circles of fabric. Fold and glue them down in the same fashion.

Step 5: You can fill in the center with more fabric circles. Or add a little shine with a button, rhinestone or bit of jewelry. Feeling really crafty? Use a button kit- found with the notions in any sewing department- and make your own button!

Step 6: Finish the back with a hair clip or brooch clip. You can even attach both so it can work as hair accessory and brooch.

These fabric flowers are a great project for the kids to help with too. Hunt for circles around your home to use as templates. Let them help trace and cut. Older kids can use the hot glue gun and actually create their own fabric flowers to give as sweet gifts to friends, teachers and family. And with Valentine's coming up- wouldn't these be a great way to give flowers to loved ones?!

Get creative and remember-fashion and décor are all about being bold and taking risks. So don’t be afraid to accessorize!

Color Me Happy

Each year the creative folks at Pantone do some 'forecasting'. They pick colors. Not just any colors- they pick "the color". And their color choices ultimately influence the clothes we wear, the accessories we choose for our homes, and even what shade we paint our nails.

And recently Pantone made the announcement that "the color of 2012" is Tangerine Tango! Part of me is not surprised, this beautiful orange color seems to be popping up everywhere. Pantone describes its pick for 2012 as a "spirited reddish orange that will continue to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward."

Watch for this spunky color to show up in your closet- it has been featured in the Spring/Summer 2012 lines of designers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, and Elie Tahari. And it's likely to stay around through the fall season. Pantone predicts, "A fun, lively take on a traditional autumnal hue, Tangerine Tango will surely carry through to fall fashion as well."

A Family Tradition

Growing up, I have so many warm memories of the kitchen. When we went up to Idaho each summer for two weeks, my grandma would cook and bake. Buttery sugar cookies, roasts peppered with rosemary and thyme, decadent fudge, and fluffy bread would come rolling out of her kitchen. And like all ‘good grandmas’ she had a secret recipe. She made the best homemade chicken noodle soup. The process of making the chicken noodle soup was something that could take all day. It was the perfect Sunday meal to have simmering on the stove. My grandma taught the recipe to my mother, who then passed on the secret to me.

The recipe is hardly a ‘recipe’. Mostly it is made up of approximations, a pinch here and a dash there. Each person who cooks it finds a way to make it their own. My mom’s tastes different from my grandma’s soup and my version of the chicken noodle soup has a unique flavor too. But the process of cooking all day and enlisting the help of little hands still stays the same.

I am so grateful for those memories of my grandma cooking and the time I spent at the counter watching my mom cook as well. But to be honest, I never inherited all of their culinary skills. My husband usually does most of the real cooking. I am better suited for baking sweets and goodies. But somehow I did get the ‘chicken noodle gene’. And as the weather cools, I like to put that trait to good use. So in the spirit of women sharing the joy of cooking with other women, I am going to let you in on our family secret. Who knows, maybe it will inspire you to create a new tradition in your home.

“Recipe” for Grandma’s Chicken Noodle Soup

Ingredients Needed:

-chicken

-water

-chicken broth

-2 cans cream of chicken soup

-carrots

-celery

-onion

-salt, pepper, additional seasonings as desired

Noodles:

-flour

-eggs

-water

-salt

To start the soup, first begin by filling a big pot with water and boiling chicken breasts. Include an onion, celery and salt/pepper. No exact measurements, just do what ‘looks’ right. The water will later be used as part of the broth.

While the chicken is boiling, dice celery and carrots for the soup. I like to teach my daughter how to use kitchen tools safely. So depending on your comfort level and age of your child- hand over the knife and supervise!

Next, my Grandma always liked to make her own noodles. Yes, you can substitute for the store- bought kind. But at least once, show your child how to make homemade egg noodles! The recipe is always changing, but this time I mixed 4 cups of flour with 2 eggs. I added a pinch of salt and water as needed. The consistency of the dough needs to be slightly firm, so add water as needed. If you add too much water, just throw in more flour.

Then on a floured surface, roll out the dough. Once it is nice and thin, use a pizza cutter to slice the noodles. Hang them to dry- hangers help.

I let my chicken cook all day. This gives time for the noodles to dry and the broth to get some flavor. But once the chicken is fully cooked, you can remove everything from the broth and using a strainer. Make sure to save the water- that is your broth. Discard the onion and celery. Shred the chicken breasts with a fork.

Now it’s time to assemble the soup. Using your ‘chicken water’ as the base for the broth, add 2 cans cream of chicken, 2 cups of chicken broth, the shredded chicken, diced carrots and celery, and noodles. If needed, you can add a bit more water.

Bring everything to a boil. Now is a good time to add seasonings. Besides salt and pepper, I like to add allspice, Tony Chacere Original Seasoning, and Louisiana Hot Sauce. We like a little kick around here!

Usually it takes about 30 minutes to fully cook the noodles and bring the veggies to the perfect tenderness. By then the house is so full of the yummy aroma- we are ready to eat. I think Grandma’s soup goes best with soft, sliced French bread. And don’t worry- store bought tastes great. Unlike Grandma, I never make my own bread!

A Winter Wedding

Remember the fall bridal shower my mom, sister and I hosted this past fall?

Well, the wedding date was this past weekend. And my youngest sister Becka got married! The ceremony was beautiful. It was held in Colleyville at La Piazza. Lots of chandeliers!

Amanda and I served as the "Matron of Honor"-- am I really a 'matron'???!

She made a stunning bride with a very happy groom.

And between the two of them, they had a total of 7 flower girls! I think that might set a record for the most flower girls in a single wedding party.

I made headbands for all the sweet little attendants.

Love those dresses? They are from Oopsy Daisy Baby ;) Afton wore the same one in red for Christmas.

But don't be fooled by the innocent face below! My two year old decided to run to the front of the chapel and stand directly in front of the bride and groom during the ceremony. All the while 'shushing' everyone in the audience. Jeff finally had to scoop her up and run out the back door!

All in all, it was a fun wedding! And although we are heart-broken for our baby sister to grow-up and move away...

we are happy for the new couple!

What's Will 2012 Bring?

Are you a 'resolution' type person? I like to make a few goals when January rolls around. As soon I get the Christmas decorations taken down and the house cleaned up, it only seems fitting to take stock of things and refocus. Last year I set a few goals for myself, you can read the entire post here.

But basically this was the list for 2011:
1. Savor the little moments with my girls- our 'chicken days' won't last forever.
2. Spend as much time fussing over my husband as I do picking out my clothes :)
3. Enjoy more time with our family- we are so lucky to have so much so close by.
4. Run a bit more.
5. Make a warm and loving home for my husband and children.
6. And finally, I need to decorate our master bedroom!

Surprisingly, I think I did pretty well. (I must have set easy goals!) I think my first three goals will always be on the top of my list. You can't go wrong with family.

And as for the last three, well I actually feel good about those too.

With the exception of the running and our master bedroom, these aren't really the types of goals I can ever just put a check by and then cross it off my list. For example, look at #5, some days I know I do a better job than others at 'creating a happy home'. (I just never take photos of those days!) Aren't there times when it feels like keeping everyone happy is nearly impossible?! But maybe just having it on the list is good. Afterall it is a goal. I will never achieve perfection, but a girl's got to try her best right?!

So here is my list for 2012. I am stealing some from last year. But I threw in a few new ones too.

1. Have fun with my girls! Time continues to fly by- the older they get, the faster it goes.
2. Invest in my marriage. We're in this for the long haul:)
3. Make time for family.
4. Keep on running- challenge myself mentally and physically.
5. Eat healthier- I don't think 'baked chips' have much nutritional value...
6. Organize my pantry.
7. Keep blogging! I have tons of new projects in mind for Crafty Texas Girls.
8. Grow my hair accessory business-"Samantha Conner Designs"

Now that the year is coming to end, I thought it would be fun to look back at 2011. This year, with your support, my blog really took off. I made a lot of fun crafts, did a ton of DIY, and met so many new crafty friends. So based on 'Google Stats' here are my top posts from the year.
