The asylum of Rovigo, over the years has gone into complete disuse, and in a total state of abandon. Visitors to this year, were the vandals, the sightseers, photographers, and nostalgic as the friend Roberto, who occasionally goes inside to check if everything "is OK", and there are no suspects or vandals (perhaps thieves) which they take away something. But inside there is nothing left except some pavilions where even the USL Rovigo keeps paper files.

Nothing has been done up to these days to get this beautiful space with adjoining park. Sorry to see the whole thing into disuse, thinking that many years ago was populated by hundreds of people from the community mental asylum.

This is my modest contribution to make known to those who have never personally seen a place like this, particularly, fascinating and disturbing.The "photographic research" lasted several months, sharing photos, depending on the structure of the pavilion and visited.

In this post, I will tell you of an abandoned asylum in northeastern of Italy, in the province of Rovigo.
On 29 November 1929, named after King Vittorio Emanuele III, was inaugurated the new psychiatric hospital in Rovigo.

On 20 March were received the first tranches of male patients from the asylum of St. Servolo in Venice, and two days later came the sick "banked" in Noventa Vicentina, while simultaneously beginning the service was first provincial agreement.The Institute could well activate fully, accepting and withdrawing patients also scattered in other places like hospitals and nursing until then unexpended for that purpose so that the June 1, 1930 are 350 units were received, of which 199 men and 131 women.

The Ducal Palace
A masterpiece of Gothic art, the Doge's Palace is an impressive structure of layers of building elements and ornamentation by the ancient foundations, the fourteenth-fifteenth of the whole, to the renaissance additions and opulent Mannerist details.Consists of three large buildings that have put together the old buildings:

The wing to the Basin of San Marco (which contains the Hall of Great Council) and is the oldest, rebuilt in 1340; The wing on the Square (formerly Palace of Justice) with the Hall of Scrutiny, whose construction began in its present form since 1424; The Renaissance wing, with the Doge's residence and many government offices, rebuilt between 1483 and 1565.

St Mark's Basilica

The Patriarchal Cathedral Basilica of Saint Mark (officially known in Italian as the Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco and commonly known as Saint Mark's Basilica) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice, northern Italy.

It is the most famous of the city's churches and one of the best known examples of Byzantine architecture. It lies at the eastern end of the Piazza San Marco, adjacent and connected to the Doge's Palace.

Originally it was the chapel of the Doge, and has only been the city's cathedral since 1807, when it became the seat of the Patriarch of Venice, archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice, formerly at San Pietro di Castello.

For its opulent design, gilded Byzantine mosaics, and its status as a symbol of Venetian wealth and power, from the 11th century on the building has been known by the nickname Chiesa d'Oro (Church of gold).

The building
The first St Mark's was a temporary building in the Doge's Palace, constructed in 828, when Venetian merchants stole the supposed relics of Mark the Evangelist from Alexandria. This was replaced by a new church on its present site in 832; from the same century dates the first St Mark's Campanile (bell tower).

The new church was burned in a rebellion in 976, rebuilt in 978 and again to form the basis of the present basilica since 1063. The basilica was consecrated in 1094, the same year in which the body of Saint Mark was supposedly rediscovered in a pillar by Vitale Faliero, doge at the time.

The building also incorporates a low tower (now housing St Mark’s Treasure),believed by some to have been part of the original Doge's Palace

Within the first half of the 13th century the narthex and the new façade were constructed, most of the mosaics were completed and the domes were covered with higher wooden, lead-covered domes in order to blend in with the Gothic architecture of the redesigned Doge's Palace.
