After some brief three years and a half, the Jerusalem Post has finally caught up with us. They print an interview with a member of the Iranian Basiji militia and thus confirm what we reported (did I say three and a half years ago?) earlier:

In a shocking and unprecedented interview, directly exposing the inhumanity of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's religious regime in Iran, a serving member of the paramilitary Basiji militia has told this reporter of his role in suppressing opposition street protests in recent weeks.

He has also detailed aspects of his earlier service in the force, including his enforced participation in the rape of young Iranian girls prior to their execution.

And here was I, thinking that men can't be forced against their will to have intercourse. But whatever. Maybe finally, at last, somebody maybe, perhaps will take notice.

Elsewhere, the publication of a guidebook for politicians, police and public servants on how to talk about Muslims and terrorism without implicating the religion of Islam was announced for the end of the year.

Some Questions about Germany

Co-blogger Beakerkin has asked me a couple of questions about my country. I intended to reply in a comment to his post, but my reply exceeded the limit set by Blogger for comments. So here you are, Beak!

1) Is there a regional accents that are noticeable to a native German speaker. Would a person from Berlin sound different from someone in Munich?
Oh my God, yes. And not JUST the accent. It's an entirely different culture. People don't even LOOK the same and don't have the same temperament. They have a different history and different traditions in every respect, too.

2) Americans are familiar with the larger parties in Germany? Are there smaller local parties as well?
Yes there are, although they are pretty small. Some are traditionally established, like the party of the Danish minority in Schleswig-Holstein, some are new, like the "Pro"-movement, established as an answer to Muslim immigration and the Islamisation of Europe. If you look at Roncesvalles' right sidebar, you'll see the header "The Pro-Köln-Dustup". Maybe it's interesting.

3) What American TV shows are available in Germany?
Beak, I stopped watching television about 15 years ago and I don't have a marked interest in popular culture. I guess a lot are. I grew up with Bonanza, Bezaubernde Jeannie (the lovely genie in a bottle), Hiram Holliday, Tammy or Mr. Ed. (I don't even know the original titles.) I liked the Walton's and simply adored ALF, that hairy alien. That was shortly before I gave up watching television for good. Quite a few American TV series got improved by the excellent German dubbing. ALF is one of them.

4) Are uncommon books like the Great Divide by Schmidt and the works of Thomas Sowell available in German?
Wie das Christentum die Welt veränderte: von Alvin J. Schmidt is available (sez Amazon). I guess that is Under The Influence. And Wissen und Vernunft. Die Logik gesellschaftlicher Prozesse von Thomas Sowell used to be available, but is out of print.

5) Who are the Greens?
Nazis painted red, then painted green as a top layer.

6) Is there any talk of Immigration reform in Germany?
A basic reform would be unthinkable. Even the naturalization test they have partly introduced is meeting a lot of resistance. Muslims "import" more than one wife and the state pays for all of them, Muslims are importing brides from home who don't know a word of German and can't read and write in their own language either. A young man on the dole or on social welfare in Germany is considered a mighty catch for a Turkish girl, so they marry, come over, never learn a word of German, have children and they all become part of a parallel society hostile to Germans and Germany. We are shovelling our own grave.

7) Is there a home schooling movement in Germany?
No, and thank God for that. I can see its merits and advantages for Americans, but it wouldn't work in Germany. I've ranted about it here.

8) Are there Real Estate Taxes in Germany?
Yes. Everything is taxed in Germany. Next they'll tax our eyesight.

9) If you went to the local gourmet shop could one find oddities such as Vermont Maple Syrup and Louisiana Crayfish at the market?
There is Canadian maple syrup at any decent supermarket, but not something like Louisiana Crayfish.

10) What is Ramstein about? Is this a crass fad equivalent to Punk Rock in the states?
As I said, I am not "into" pop culture, so I'll skip this question.

11) How is India portrayed in the German press?
As I know next to nothing about India myself I can only say that I guess it's portrayed largely in a matter of fact way. At least I have never sensed anything else. (I may be wrong.) Or do you mean (American) "Indians"? That would be an entirely different matter.

12) Has Obama won over some of America's critics in Germany?
Oh my God, they ADORE him. Everybody who is anti-American is adored in Germany. He is even more popular than Michael Moore.

13) What are your thoughts about women who wear Burkha's is it a public safety issue. Should the government have the right or duty to identify citizens?
But of course. If they want to wear a Burqa they can always do it in their own countries. To allow Burqas in a Western country (or the headscarf, for that) is the height of dhimmitude.

14) Are there speed limits on German roadways other than autobahns?
There is no (general) speed limit on the Autobahn, there is a general speed limit of 100 km/h on all other roads outside built-up areas and a general speed limit of 50 km/h within those areas.

15) Do immigrants have any obligations to their host country?
What about: The obligation not to give it a bad name? If they want any other obligations, they ought to stay there.

16) How is World War One treated in the history books in Germany?
Pretty matter-of-fact, I'd say. With WWII and the Holocaust under their belt and all particitrongts dead by now, that war is as remote from German public consciousness as the 30-year-war. At least that is how I perceive it.

17) Does the failure of responsible mainstream parties to address topics like immigration reform give fringe malicious parties opportunities to stoke populist support.
No. The "danger from the right" is one big sham and a smokescreen to distract from the danger from the left. Most Germans just love to be dominated by Islam because they love to be dominated. Full stop. In fact, it seems as if they can't even wait until Islam has taken over entirely.

18) Is crime rising in Germany?
Not really, although I only believe in those statistics I've faked myself. ;-)

19) If an American were to come to Germany for one week what sites would you recommend?
Oh my God, Beak, that is SO difficult! This little country is so diverse and so interesting, but the diversity makes it difficult to pinpoint THE most interesting sites. Münster in Westphalia with its great Christian heritage and lovely rural backwaters for history and culture, Hamburg with its harbour for industry, technology and the working people, Munich with its beergardens for gastronomy and fun. Oh yes, and for some culture as well. The surroundings are not bad there either. That should be more than enough for one week. Believe it or not, I've never been to Berlin myself. I am such a country bumpkin.

20) Is there media diversity in Germany? Americans have Fox News as an alternative to the mainstream press? Is there a German equivalent to Fox News?
No. The entire media is the same liberal-leftist quagmire.

21) What American films stand out as classics in your tastes. Name your five all time favorites?
* The Cavalry Trilogy with John Wayne
* El Dorado
* The Fabulous Baker Boys (for some diversity).

22) Other than McDonald's or Fast food are there restaurants in Germany that mimic American cooking styles such as Cajun, New York Deli or California Fusion?
If there are any, it has escaped my attention. Is "Pizza Hut" American? There are a couple of those. By the way, I love MacDonald's.

23) Are American Cartoons such as Sponge Bob and Bugs Bunny shown on German TV?
Bugs Bunny used to be very popular, as were (and I guess still are) the Disney cartoons. As for the more recent development: See my answers regarding pop culture. I sadly don't know Sponge Bob.

24) What are your thoughts on Children's films over the years does Shrek or Monsters Inc compare with Bambi or Pinnochio from an earlier era?
Again, I haven't watched Shrek or Monsters Inc. I loved Bambi and Pinocchio as a child. What I see is a marked decline in taste, what I sense, too, is some ideological egalitarianism between man and beast with all those "cute" little animals in the latest children's books, an egalitarianism that has nothing to do with the care and attention we owe our animals. Bambi didn't have those brainwashing overtones, at least I didn't sense them.

25) Should love be left for theologians, poets or musicians to describe?
Interesting question! There is so much banalizing talk about "love" by everybody and his (mostly her) pet ferret that we seem to have forgotten what it is altogether. Maybe we ought to stop for a while talking about it at all.

Bonus question:

26) Is Vanilla Ice just as dreadful in Germany as it is in the States. I am amazed when I meet Polish immigrants who can't speak a word of English but proclaim "Vanilla Ice stinks". These are people who were maybe five when he performed. Is his legacy as the worst American cultural export safe?
I think vanilla icecream is awful anywhere. I never eat it. I guess the real ingredient is too expensive to make large quantities with it. I like American STYLE icecream. The worst industrial icecream I have ever tasted was Häagen-Dazs, I have forgotten what flavour it was, though, but I even remember that it was in London.

A Tale of Two 31-Year Old Mothers

The repercussions for all of Germany following the murder of a 31-year old Muslim woman from Egypt by a passport-German from Russia in a German courtroom are remarkable and dramatic and remarkably dramatic. All honour killings and other crimes within the Muslim counter-culture, all killings, mutilations and beatings-up of Germans by our Muslim "culture enrichers" are, as far as they got any attention at all, forgotten. They were "isolated cases" anway, whereas for this, really isolated, case all Germans are held responsible, a crime committed by a man who wasn't even socialised within the evil "islamophobic" German culture.

Indeed, the media echo is stunning. A quick Google-search just for the name of the victim reveals amazing results. "Martyr", "headscarf" and "pregnant" are the feeds that mainly catch the eye. Of course, the German results are almost identical, with the German equivalents of "hate crime" and "racism" thrown in.

All of Germany is wallowing orgasmically, like swine wallow in dirt, in their own moral squalor. They love that.

And moral squalor it is indeed, just not in the way they see it.

The secretaries of both, the Central Council of Jews, convertite Stephan Kramer, and the Central Council Muslims in Germany, Aiman Mazyek, had the mutual enemy quickly identified and visited the widower together to express their sincere hypocrisy.

The French Figaro, so Gudrun Eussner informs me, quotes in today's print issue on page 7 the same Aiman Mazyek who states that "total (sic!) religious freedom" must be defended, part of which is the wearing of the headscarf:..."liberté réligieuse totale, dont fait partie le port du voile."

Has anybody still any doubt that we in the West are in a total (sic!) and global war with Islam?

Even such experts on human rights like Mahmud Ahmadinejad and the Iranian Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution (SCCR) chimed in, the latter issuing a statement saying the murder of Marwa al-Sherbini in Germany demonstrated the West’s disrespect to human rights.

And nobody laughed.

The most revealing aspect was, however, that even such an obscene extravaganza of German self-hatred and submission wasn't enough for the trailblazing whips (or rather: "whippettes") of dhimmitude. Andrea Dernbach, who has proven her ethical depth and moral prowess already by a justification of sex with children to clear Islam of the suspicion of homophobia, asked under the header "Germany's new hatred": "Why does the death of a woman wearing a headscarf – who wasn’t the victim of a so-called “honour killing” – spark so little interest in Germany?"

So far, so bad, but lately we seem even to export that specific brand of Islam-adoring journalettes, maybe because whatever Germans do, they do thoroughly. And indeed, under the even more incredible header "A murder that Germany ignored" a woman with a German-sounding name whines (in the Al Guardian, no less!) about what must be, I don't have any other explanation, the figment of an oestrogen-addled brain, and doesn't even shy away from repeating an outlandish, preposterous accusation from the Muslim media:

They [the German media] could have asked – as an Egyptian did – why Marwa's husband, while he was trying to help his wife, was shot and wounded by a policeman in the courtroom. Because he was not blond-haired?

I am not a prolific letter-to-the-editor-writer, but this time I couldn't help myself:

Your name suggests that you can read German. So you either have an agenda or you are out of your mind. The German media is, since that crime happened, in an orgiastic, self-hating frenzy. "Germans! She died for your sins!" And you are SERIOUSLY selling the above drivel to an unsuspecting Guardian readership? The day the countless ethnic Germans who are beaten to a pulp or killed by our Muslim culture enrichers get at least a fifth of the media attention this case got and it still getting, I will stop worrying what makes people like you tick.

Elsewhere, in Iran, the 31-year-old mother of two, Mohabat Mahmodi, will be executed within the next couple of days, because she killed her rapist in self-defense.*

And nobody cares. They are all too busy being outraged by German islamophobia.

About Brainwashing and Conveniently Sticking Libel

At a time where Christians are killed by Muslims, copiously in the Third World and, yet and just, separately elsewhere and both without much interest from public and media, where the world got its collective knickers in a knot that the pope is Catholic, the following from the information site "Katholisches – Magazin für Kirche und Kultur" is of particular importance. "Katholisches" (which means something like "Catholic matters") introduces a book "Toleranz und Gewalt ("Tolerance and Violence") and forwards some details about the dreaded Inquisition, evil incarnate and second only to the 20th century Holocaust of the Jews (if that), in a historical context: Informationen und Zahlen über die Heilige Inquisition aus dem Buch "Toleranz und Gewalt".

According to that book, the Spanish Inquisition has, within the 160 years between 1540 and 1700, passed 44,674 sentences. Of those sentenced, 826 were executed. The book compares this to the Spanish Civil war, where Communists murdered within a time span of six years more than 7,000 priests and monastics. The Roman Inquisition had, between 1542 and 1761, exactly 97 people executed. Another example: Secular jurisdiction executed within the same time span 939 people in the city of Nürnberg alone.

Burning of witches was almost unknown and strictly rejected by the popes. In the 17th century, when all over the Protestant regions north of the Alps the stakes were burning (there is an estimation of 25,000 victims), not a single witch trial was performed. In Spain, about 300 "witches" were burnt at the stakes, in strongly Catholic Ireland 2.

The frequently traded number of 9 million victims can, interestingly, be traced back to Heinrich Himmler, the second most powerful man in the "Third Reich", who intended to fuel thus anti-Catholic resentments. In fact, even his "research team" couldn't fabricate more than 30,000 victims.

Geneva, home of Calvin, was infamous for its witch trials as well.

The article ends with a quote by Martin Luther, including a litany of supernatural evil powers witches possess and the calling to kill them.

Now my intention is not to offend all those brave Protestant Christians, my intention is to deflate official, open or implicit, Protestant smugness. A smugness, that suggests that the followers of that denomination are somehow in possession of a more advanced truth and that Catholics have to bear the brunt (better: make that "all") of Christian misdoings, real or perceived, in the past. If anything, the above ought to make clear that Luther's motives for breaking away from the Catholic Church did certainly not include the defence of freedom of individual thought of which only too many Protestants are only too proud.

At a time where a pope who dares to do away with revisionist history by suggesting that it is perhaps not necessary to "apologise" for the crusades, is branded a reactionary instead of being hailed as a truth seeker, such information is important.

At a time where a pope, who lifts the excommunication of a priest who happens to be a Holocaust denier, is branded a Holocaust denier, such information is important.

At a time where a pope who represents all Catholics worldwide, including the many victims of Nazi barbarism, doesn't, really or perceived, grovel to an extent that is expected of him -- a German -- during a visit to Israel, such information is important.

In a century, where another pope was denounced as a supporter of the Holocaust, Nazi-accomplice and antisemite by a KGB-agent, a libel that was enthusiastically taken up by the masses and their media, in a century where evidence that reveals all that is doggedly ingnored by the same masses and the same media, such information is important.

And finally: Why, I am asking myself (somebody whose egalitarian instincts are not all that pronounced), is nobody, at a time where egalitarianism is the only accepted world view, praising the Catholic church as the only powerful institution in the world on the strength of its radical egalitarianism. Where else would the son of a piss-poor policeman from the deepest Bavarian backwaters called Ratzinger be allowed to walk in the shoes of Colonnas, Medicis, Borgheses, Orsinis, Odescalchis and Pignatellis? But it isn't really about what the Catholic church actually IS, or is it? Apart from matters of family -- and thus GOD -- the Catholic church is egalitarian and leftist, and as long as they won't give up those core matters, give up itself, it will be hated by the world and any (but ANY!) libel will stick.

No-go area for Americans:

Garmisch-Partenkirchen travel warning
July 3-6: U.S. personnel in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area on the Fourth of July weekend are advised to maintain an elevated situational awareness and increased vigilance in and around areas where U.S. and other military personnel are known to gather, such as restaurants, bars or other venues which coincide with ongoing celebrations.

Background: Authorities are worried that a "German group" might be going to "seek revenge" for an "incident" at a local nightclub. US-citizens are asked by the Munich Consulate General and the German police to, so to say, watch their backs this weekend. A speaker of the Polizeipräsidium Oberbayern-Süd at Rosenheim stated that the situation is "being taken seriously" and that the security measures will be stepped up accordingly.

What had happened? According to information from the magazine "Focus online" and the daily "Münchner Merkur", the "incident" late in June had in fact been an encounter between a civilian employee of the U.S. Army and a, as the politically correct jargon goes, "German of Turkish origin". One of the "Germano-Turks" involved was said to have threatened the American to come back within the next couple of days and to take revenge.

And that's why Americans better avoid now one of the most gorgeous holiday resorts in Europe.

I've Got A New Blog

I've headed it The Most Destructive Single Cause and it's about (now who would have thought so regarding the title?) feminism and a spawn of my two other blogs The Editrix' Roncesvalles and The Evil Style Queen. I am not a Renaissance polymath and I have found that if I try to cover too many topics at once it doesn't become a coherent overview of the woes of our times but an unstructured mess. I have weeded those posts that are germane to the topic of the new blog, even if only peripherally so, from my other blogs and put it there to give the new effort some substance to start with. Roncesvalles will now focus on the Islamisation of the West and its related phenomena,The Evil Style Queen's focus will return to, well, style. Feminism permeates every single aspect of our daily life and thus needs dedicated analysis and not just some blog entries, which are soon drowned by a flood of other information or laments.

Thanks to Blogger, one of the most unfairly badmouthed organisations on earth, for the excellent import- and export functionality without which I couldn't have done this.

SPON tells us about yesterday's Christopher Street Day in Berlin and can't, of course, RESIST to pepper the report with lots of juicy photos.

"Stück für Stück ins Homoglück - Alle Rechte für Alle" [something like "step by step towards homo-happyness -- all rights for eveybody, and no, that is NOT a joke] is the motto of this year's Christopher Street Day (CDS) parade in Berlin. Up to 250,000 people are partying in the capital, according to the organizers.

The parade, which is the 31st of its kind, took off at the Kurfürstendamm [Berlin's boulevard landmark]. Tenthousands of gays, lesbians and transsexuals started out at 12.30h with 55 floats or banded together on foot towards Siegessäule, where the final rally will take place.

Numerous participants were wearing colourful costumes and brandishing rainbow-banners. The organizers are demanding the inclusion of the protection of homosexuals in the constitution.

Oppressed gay men are having at last (for the 31st time) some innocent fun.

Here we have some from the renowned daily Süddeutsche Zeitung under the header "Bunt als Lebensgefühl" [something like: "Multicolour as a way of life"]:

This is a picture from the Hamburg 2005, not of the Berlin 2009 event because, so we can only presume, this year's pictures from Berlin weren't swinish enough for the quality journalism for which the Süddeutsche stands.

Homosexuals against "right wing extremism": "Bend over Skin[head]", the placard says.

One can now be, as I am, disgusted by those pictures and the depravity of the media, and I have yet to find a single critical account of this debased spectacle pretending that it's the outcry of an "oppressed minority". On second thought, however, it may be not all bad. It will cure the odd wellmeaning liberal from the false perception that homosexuals are doing, as one often hears, "no damage". Wellmeaning liberals, who have never seen homosexuals save the nice, middle class, quiet, sober, unobtrusive couple from next door, tend to think that. I was once one of them. After all, those inoffensive mild excentrics have a nice house with a garden and wouldn't a child better grow up there than in an orphanage, and why shouldn't they have a sort of civil union so that the surviving one will get his "widower's pension"? It would only be fair and do no harm, won't it?

And then one sees those pictures, hears those strident demands for equality and one starts to think. There hasn't been any discrimination against homosexuals for decades, neither legal nor factual. Yet now they are demanding the inclusion of the "protection of homosexuals" in the constitution. What does that imply? They are saying it quite openly: All rights for everybody. Now a man demands to be able to legally "marry" a man based on the principle of "legal equality". Next he wants to "marry" a minor. Why not? Doesn't the setting of an age of sexual consent limit the "legal equality" of minors and, not to forget, of those who would like to have sex with them? I am talking rubbish? The Green Party has never credibly renounced their goal to legalize sex with minors, a party that once took off as a pro-homosexual, pro-immigration, feminist, enviromentalist and pacifist organisation with a few old "blood and soil" Nazis thrown in who have long left or died out. Based on that logic from hell, they could as well demand that a blind man must be granted a driving license. All rights for everybody!

Homosexuals are a minority that should be accepted and respected by the majority were it not for the fact that they see themselves as a pressure group hell bent not just on equality but on replacing the majority. They are known to form "rope teams" and thus claim a societal and political importance based on nothing but their, to all "normal" intents and purposes, unimportant sexual orientation. They, as I wrote in an earlier entry, are claiming an importance they don't possess and an attention they don't deserve. In that, they are demonstrating a frightening affinity to Islam in our Western culture, an affinity that, not so amazingly, transcends matters of politics and mentality to fulfill itself somewhere very real in North Africa.

This is incredible! Must watch!

I cross-posted this at IBA. Somewhat naturally, Wafa Sultan was mentioned. For me, the old anti-feminist diehard, it's not amazing that Wafa Sultan made (justifiedly so) headlines and this man remained (unjustifiedly) largely unrecognized.

Another thing Pastorius brought up:

The distinct difference between this guy and Wafa is that Wafa defended the Jews. This guy buys into the Palestinians as oppressed narrative. That will probably spare him the death threats.

And...

...it would be unreasonable for him to buy into the Palestinian story given his otherwise reasonable take on the Arab world.

He recognizes the inherent problems, so why would he not recognize that in the Palestinian territories they don't even keep their streets nice, they don't plant trees, they don't keep businesses going, etc. (Particularly in Gaza, from what I understand.) So, why would he observe that and think, well, in that case it's not the Arab's fault but the Jews fault.

I wonder what will follow. There is remarkable little about Anwar Malek in the Internet and even less in the blogosphere.

A Plea for Mendacity

Sometimes, I dislike America intensely. Maybe it's partly a matter of linguistics, but still...

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's mother said yesterday that she was praying for her son as pressure mounted for a criminal probe into his secret trip to visit his lover in Argentina. "I love him and support him," Margaret Sanford, 83, said while sitting on a wooden picnic bench outside her home.

After going missing for days, the married father of four admitted Wednesday to a yearlong affair with a woman who lives in Argentina. In a tearful news conference, the two-term Republican asked for forgiveness and explained that a friendship with the woman had blossomed into romance a year ago, around the time of a state-funded trip to South America.

For Heaven's Sake, can't she pray in privacy? Certainly her brand of Christianity hasn't done much for the son she (presumably) brought up. Alright, we Europeans (at least we Germans and certainly the English) are a stuck-up bunch when it comes to religion, but this is obscene.

But what I find even worse is to describe the making of an adulterous relationship as "a friendship with (a) woman (that) had blossomed into romance." Romance? BLOSSOMED? Pukebags anybody?

Not that politicians at this end (or people generally) do not commit adultery. But at least it isn't hyped to the max (to use another disgusting Americanism) or maybe they are just not as often found out, be that because they are less dumb than their American counterparts or because there is just less interest in other peoples' sex lifes. Whatever, so far we have been spared that cheesy view of adultery, the snivelling of the perpetrators and, thank God for small mercies, Mum's sanctimonious drivel as the icing on a turd that tries to sell itself as a chocolate truffle.

One Gets What One Asks For

Today it made moderate headlines that Edward "Buzz" Aldrin of Second-Man-on-the-Moon fame had done what -- I believe -- passes for "Rap" among the young together with that unspeakable bit of human flotsam that goes by the moniker of "Snoop Dogg". I'm largely a stranger to this genre.

While this shows a deplorable drop in standards, it was, after all, just an old coot with (presumably) hair growing out of his nose and ears in a last grasp at some headlines, and now listen well to MY story: In Old Europe, two veritable foreign ministers, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bernard Kouchner, hit the bottom of the barrel of humanity when they, in November 2007, that was, "rapped" together for -- you've guessed it -- multiculiti as part of an "integration summit". As Snoop Dogg wasn't an option, an, as it is called, Germano-Turkish specimen of that genre did as well.

"Muhabbet" had summoned the two politicians to a studio in Kreuzberg, the quasi-Turkish suburb of Berlin, and they happily, numbly and dumbly obliged.

"We Germans need to open up a little bit more to the world", Steinmeier was quoted as saying while Kouchner wasn't ashamed of expressing great pleasure at adding some colour to the integration summit via such activity, and affirmed readiness for recording further songs.

"Everybody accepts that Germany is a country of migration. And we are the fruits of this migration", Muhabbet said.

Without doubt.

Then the stellar example for integration came tumbling down, as stellar examples for integration tend to, when the journalist and filmmaker Esther Schapira made it public that she had been attacked at a pre-viewing of her film about the murder of Theo van Gogh by our paragon of assimilation virtue, who had stated that he'd have done the same and would have tortured van Gogh to boot. Not to forget that Ayaan Hirsi Ali deserved the same fate.

Steinmeier remained astonishingly sanguine and declared par ordre de mufti that Muhabbet was a good guy and called for calm. And indeed, Muhabbet is not an extremist, he is the mainstream.

People then had a closer look at his "lyrics" and discovered -- who would have thought so -- an abyss of obscenity, hate, racism, misogyny and homophobia, all things Muhabbet's vast followership, at least the ethnic German faction, abhors, but only if it comes from one of them. I am not averse to the odd expletive when it serves a purpose, but I won't translate that, so you'll have to believe me.

What does that teach us?

It teaches us that one gets what one asks for. Had Steinmeier and Kouchner performed German Lieder together with Thomas Quasthoff this wouldn't have happened.

It teaches us too that, when it comes to Islam, you get what you are asking for as well, namely Islam.

And it asks for some leniency for Buzz Aldrin.

60 construction workers building the Communist showpiece Stalin-Allee, the "first socialist avenue in Germany" in East Berlin went on strike on 16 June 1953, to demand a reduction in recent work-quota increases. They called for a general strike the next day. By dawn of June 17, 100,000 protesters had gathered with more arriving throughout the morning. More protests were held all over the GDR.

The initial pleas of the protesters for the reinstatement of the previous lower work quotas turned into political demands. SED functionaries took to the streets and began arguing with small groups of protesters. Eventually, the workers demanded the resignation of the East German government. The government turned to their Soviet brethren for military support.

At noon, the Volkspolizei (East Germany's "people's police") had trapped many of the demonstrators in an open square. When dozens of T-34 Soviet tanks appeared, the uprising started to lose its clout and although there were no major assaults on the military, a massacre followed. It is still unclear how many people died during the uprising and by the death sentences which followed. The official number of victims is 55. After the evaluation of documents accessible since reunification, the number of victims appears to be at least 125, whereas higher estimates put the number of dead at 267.

20,000 people were imprisoned as felons, three were beheaded later. Summarily executed were: Kurt Arndt, Eisleben; Ernst Markgraf, Stralsund; Heinz Brandt, Rostock; Walter Schädlich, Leipzig; Eberhard von Canerin, Geithain; Axel Schäfer, Erfurt; Alfred Dartsch, Magdeburg; Günter Schwarzer, Gotha; Alfred Diener, Jena; Heinz Sonntag, Leipzig; Willy Göttling, Berlin; Hermann Stahl, Eisleben; Hartmann, Delitzsch; Herbert Strauch, Magdeburg; Peter Heider, Magdeburg; Hans Wojkowski, Stralsund; Vera Knoblauch, Rostock; Walter Krüger, Eisleben and three unknown Volkspolizisten.

Willy Göttling was from West Berlin. He was sentenced to death and shot because of the "brigand-like excesses against the ruling power and the people". His body was never released.

In memory of the 1953 East German rebellion, West Germany established June 17 as a national holiday.

Communist poet Bertolt Brecht in his inspired memorial "The Solution" stated in 1953:

Last Sunday, Die Linke, successor of the Communist party of the former GDR, came in fifth at the elections and will enter the European Parliament with 8 seats.

Ynet has learned that the beach directorate has decided to allow the men in only if they are with their families, citing repeated complaints of sexual harassment by female patrons.

Danny, a 35-year-old from Tel Aviv, visited the beach on Friday and said he was shocked by the policy being enacted at Kaliya. "I went with two friends and in line behind us were two Arabs. The girl at the register just wouldn't let them in," he recalls.

As the day progressed Danny said he realized the scene he had witnessed was not an isolated incident. "It kept repeating itself. At one point I asked the people at the register if they really weren't letting Arabs in and they answered straight out that they were not. One of the workers told me that the men just aren't let in alone, but families are. I asked why and she said that they bothered the female tourists… she said there's nothing that can be done, it's just the way it is. What, Israeli hooligans don't bother girls – just Arabs?*"

The Kaliya administration confirmed the policy, but stressed that entry is only denied to Palestinian Arabs who come to the beach in groups. Manager Itay Rahm told Ynet in response: "This is a very serious problem, not just here but for all the Dead Sea beaches. Based on our experience, we don't let young Palestinian men in because of numerous harassment complaints.

"They're not allowed to hit on girls in their villages so they come here to harass them. Just to make a point, the day that man talked about a couple of Palestinian youths managed to sneak in and then started masturbating in front of female tourists."

He added that Israeli Arabs are able to enter the beach without any problems. "It's important to stress that we're talking about Palestinians here, not Israeli Arabs. And this isn't about racism, we let entire families in because I know that when there are women around they won't do anything."

A Very Practical and Attractive Religion for Soldiers
The recent renaissance of the the proud German tradition of collaborating with murderous Palestinian Arab scum is deserving of further attention. The following is from a previous entry, namely Child Molesters Comparing Notes. It's too good (immodest I'm not!) to be doomed to future insignificance in the blog bilges, so I've taken and added a bit to it.

Hadj Amin el Husseini, with Brit assistance self-appointed Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, mass murderer of Jews, on Hitler's payroll since 1937, accomplice of Hitler in the Holocaust, honoured guest in Berlin during WWII (all expenses, hookers included, paid), founder of the SS Handzar division, and post-war co-founder and President of the Arab League.

It is a widely shared consensus, that the existence of the state of Israel with her ethnic European population is the cause for the strife in the Middle East. So it may be a surprise to some that as early as 1933 Nazi political groups started to rise their ugly heads throughout the Arab world, for example Young Egypt, led by Muslim Brotherhood member Gamal Abdel Nasser, later Egyptian President. Young Egypt’s political slogan "One Folk, One Party, One Leader" is a direct translation from the German.

Who was the driving force behind this movement?

It can be safely assumed that the history of the Middle East and to a considerable extent that of the European Jewry would have taken a different course without Amin el Husseini, who later added "Hadj" to his name, and whose creepy shadow of death is still looming today.

He was born 1893 in Jerusalem under Ottoman rule. 1914-1917 he got his first taste of "jihad" and must have found it addictive. As an officer of the Ottoman Empire in Smyrna during the Armenian genocide, he actively participated in the slaughtering of one and a half million Christians by the Ottoman Army and it ought to be remembered that allegiance to the idea of the Ottoman Empire and a vision of Islamic world take-over was spine-chillingly echoed by Osama Bin Laden in his post-September 11th declaration.

But back to British Mandate Palestine, where Husseini is able to apply the lessons he had learned, lessons of genocide and the establishment of a Pan-Islamic empire, from which Jews and Christians are excluded. He stirs up riots in Palestine through the Twenties and Thirties, mainly, but not exclusively, targeted at Jews, including the massacre of the Hebron Jews on 23 and 24 August 1929.

The survivors are forced to flee Hebron, their property is seized by Arab residents and occupied until after the Six Day War 1967. The Hebron Jewish community was over 2,000 years old. This and other massacres may serve as both, proof for the fact that the Jewish-Arab relationships were, different from what some are fond of maintaining, less than well already before the foundation of the State of Israel and that, different from what others say, the Arabs did not learn genocidal antisemitism from the Nazis. But I digress.

Muslims who dare to protest against Hadj Amin's reign of terror are murdered as well, who, in 1931, becomes founder of the World Islamic Congress and starts to build his own strong political base.

1937 Hadj Amin el Husseini visits the German Consul in Jerusalem. He meets among others Adolf Eichmann (whose sense for "Aryan" company must have been a wee bit selective) to discuss "the Jewish question". From then on, Husseini will receive financial and military aid from Nazi Germany. He spends the war safe and sound in Germany, all expenses paid by the Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt).

Active collaboration with top-ranking Nazis starts in 1941. Reportedly, Hitler would have been content with deporting the Jews to Palestine, which Husseini perceives as a threat to his powerbase and so he pushes successfully for the extermination of the European Jews. The same year, Husseini is made chief architect of the Nazi occupation in Bosnia. The Serbian-Cyrillic alphabet is banned, Orthodox Serbs forced to wear a blue, Jewish Serbs a yellow armband.

While in Bosnia, Amin Al-Husseini takes the title "Protector of Islam". 100,000 (One hundred thousand!) Bosnian Muslims join the Nazi ranks. They are seeking the approval of the Germans for establishing an autonomous protectorate for Bosnian Muslims.

Amin Al-Husseini approves the Pejani Plan calling for the extermination of the Serbian population, something that even Nazi Germany refuses to implement.

Bosnian ethnic cleansing under Amin al Husseini:
- Orthodox Christian Serbs: 200,000 killed
- Gypsies: more than 40,000 killed
- Jewish Bosnians: 22,000 killed.
Husseini’s legacy of hatred is a major factor in today’s Bosnia/Herzegovina campaign against the Serbs.

1942, Husseini intervenes personally with the Nazi High Command to refuse an offer by the Red Cross to exchange 10,000 Jewish children for German prisoners of war. The offer is refused and the children die in the gas chambers.

1943, he creates the Handzar Division of Muslim Soldiers in Bosnia, which is, with 26,000 soldiers, to become the largest division of the Third Reich military and participates actively in the genocide of the Serbians, Gipsies and Jews in Bosnia. The Muslim soldiers pledge allegiance to Nazi regime in an official statement drawn up by Heinrich Himmler. During the same year, Husseini is made "Prime Minister" of a Pan-Arab Government created by the Nazi regime. His "headquarters" are in Berlin. He plans to put up a concentration camp in Nablus to realise the "final solution" in Palestine as an extension of Hitler’s plan.

Husseini and Himmler grow on each other. At his insistence, the "Mufti" is even given a private tour of Auschwitz death camp by Himmler.

Heinrich Himmler, obviously another Nazi with rather selective "Aryan" tastes, informed Nazi chief propagandist Josef Goebbels: "[I] have nothing against Islam because it educates the men in this division for me and promises them heaven if they fight and are killed in action. A very practical and attractive religion for soldiers."

On August 6, 1943, Himmler writes the following letter to his man in the NDH, SS Gruppenführer und Generalleutnant der Polizei Konstantin Kammerhofer and to Artur Phleps, commander of the 5th SS Mountain Corps:

"All Moslem members of the Waffen SS and police are to be afforded the undeniable right of their religious demands never to touch pork, pork sausages nor to drink alcohol...I hold all commanders...and other SS officers, responsible for the most scrupulous and loyal respect for this privilege especially granted to the Muslims. They have answered the call of the Moslem chiefs and have come to us out of hatred for the common Jewish-Anglo-Bolshevik enemy and through respect and fidelity for he who they respect above all, the Fuehrer, Adolf Hitler... There will no longer be the least discussion about the special rights afforded to the Moslems in these circles.

Heil Hitler
(signed) H. Himmler"

It is Himmler, too, who establishes and funds the "Islamische Zentralinstitut" in Dresden, with Husseini as head. The purpose is to create a generation of Muslim leaders that would continue to use Islam as a carrier for Nazi ideology into the 21st century.

On March 1, 1944, Husseini addresses from Berlin the Muslim SS units: "Kill the Jews wherever you find them. This pleases God, history and religion. This saves your honour. God is with you."

1944, he becomes one of the founders of the Arab League. Its goal is to reinforce Pan-Islamic unity. Founding members are Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen. Husseini is appointed in absentia President of Fourth Higher Committee.

1946, the British grant Husseini amnesty to weaken the Jewish presence in Mandate Palestine. He returns to Palestine.

1946, Hadj Amin is appointed leader of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jerusalem. Wahhabist Islam becomes the perfect carrier for Husseini’s policy of ethnic cleansing. He uses recently acquired Nazi methods to realise his vision of an Arab World free of Jews ("judenfrei"). Yugoslavia's request of extradition of Husseini from Egypt for War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity is refused by the Egyptian government.

Egyptian(!)-born Yasser Arafat, later to become a "Palestinian" icon, meets Husseini at age 17 and starts then working for him. Hadj Amin el Husseini is allegedly a great-uncle of Arafat, whose real name is Mohammed Abder Rauf Arafat Al-Kudwa Al-Husseini. Arafat reportedly changed his name to disguise his nationality or his connection to Husseini or both, although why he should disguise family ties with a Pan-Arab icon like Hadj Amin I can't quite fathom. This, too, destroys the myth that the "Palestinian" fight against the "Israeli occupation is a political, secular struggle and not a part of global Islamic jihad.

Post-WWII, Husseini is directly involved in providing a safe haven to ex-Nazis in Arab countries and the main connection with Francois Genoud, Swiss banker of the Third Reich, who finances the ODESSA network with money stolen from European Jews. Genoud, visits Husseini several times in Beirut and sponsors Arab Nationalism with Nazi money. In Cairo and Tangiers, Genoud sets up an import-export company called Arabo-Afrika, as a cover for an anti-Jewish and later anti-Israeli propaganda organisation.

Genoud sets up, too, Swiss bank accounts for the North African liberation armies of Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. Together with Syria, he sets up the Arab Commercial Bank in Geneva. 1962, he becomes director of the Arab People’s Bank in Algeria.

Putting up a picture of the Arab issue of "Mein Kampf" cost a German blogger recently his contract with his (German) ISP. Showing something like that is considered "hatespeak" by German law, while conveniently serving the purpose of keeping up a smokescreen preventing knowledge of German-Arab collaboration spreading too far.

1962, Hadj Amin el Husseini becomes president of his brainchild, the World Islamic Congress.

Husseini dies in Syria in 1974 at the biblical age of 81. Life is rarely fair.

His legacy of a worldwide war of Islamic conquest, of terror and eliminatory hatred of Jews continues to this day. Yasser Arafat (on the right) pays hommage to his mentor at the latter's funeral.

I have the problem with Americans that they either use it too liberally (like Charles Johnson of LGF) or that they throw a hearty "He was a patriot" after every dead Nazi towards hell, as it happened, for example, with VDare and Jörg Haider. If you go to the middle sidebar of my blog, there are two items, "The Pro-Köln-Dustup" and "More Things Americans Don't Seem to Twig" where I have vented my frustration. Basically, who rubs shoulders with Islamic despots, like Haider with Saddam, has lost any claim to a "conservative" or "patriotic" world view. It is THE litmus-test.

I'm not at all surprised at the extent of the Nazi link to Islam, but I am aghast that the first time I heard of it was on this blog. I thought I'd read about every gonzo pseudo-science, occultist fantasy, and bizarre example of cross-Aryan" hook-up (Tibetan monks in Berlin? WTF?) connected with the Third Reich, and here is one of the most obvious, one tha should have been expected, and it's been swept under the rug for over 60 years.

And, let's be frank, naming things is the beginning of having intellectual understanding, which means, it is the beginning of fighting back.

There are rumors, though not absolutely documented to my knowledge, that Arafat was the Grand Mufti's nephew.

Another thing I think is very important to note is that the name Arafat is taken from the Moutain of Arafat which is visited on the last part of the Hajj (if one is using the traditional path to Mecca).

I believe Arafat named himself that name because he saw himself as a kind of Moses character leading his people to the promised land.

In case anyone does not remember the Biblical history, Moses looked down upon the Promised land from a mountain in the final days of his life, never to quite make it all the way there.

It seems the idiot Islamofascists see the destruction of the Judaic Israel as being equivalent of the reaching of the Promised Land.

Now, you can take this with a grain of salt, because as far as I know I am the only person to have come up with this theory.

Why? BECAUSE THEY LOGICALLY DEFINE THEMSELVES THAT WAY!

Why on why do they still NOT invite the German Bundespräsident to co-celebrate D-Day and to show HIS patriotism there? That are the same people who call ME a "self-hating German". Mind you, personal insults go "past my arse" (as we say in German). It is the gross misconception behind it that makes me mad as hell.

No, it's the other way round and I said so: They say (more or less) that the innocent Muslims learned their antisemitism from the Nazis. They simply ignore that Muslim antisemitism is documented in the Koran already.

Germans are, obviously, tremendously industrious, creative, and meticulous. German artists and philosophers have added much. Yes, I think Germans have much to be proud of.

Here in America, we have people who run around with Southern Rebel flags. It seems to me these guys can't get over the Civil War. That is probably close to the same phenomenon you are irritated with in the current wave of German Patriotism.

Maybe part of the problem is that Germany, like Islam, defines itself too much by it's glory days on the battlefield.

American Patriotism does not generally revolve around military victories. We do have Patriotic Holidays like Memorial Day on which we honor those who have given their lives in military service to ensure Freedom for the rest of us. And, the Fourth of July is, obviously a Patriotic celebration of our Declaration of Independence, an Independence which was won through a bloody Revolution, but American Patriotism is just as likely to be of the "Mom and Apple Pie variety. We are just as likely to be proud of our rock n' roll, our ability and inclination to party, our big cars, our weekend trips to the river, our Country music, our Jazz music, our vast land ( and the men to equal our mountains), Disneyland, etc.

I would imagine Germans are proud of such things as well as Americans.

Yes, that is so. At least of Islamic antisemitism sui generis. I am, of course, on Bostom's side.

As for patriotism, I think patriotism doesn't allow for much relativation. Your Civil War can by no means be compared to the Holocaust or the war guilt. There ARE different ways to see it. Of course I am aware of the great cultural achievements, Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and God knows what and who else. They are the peerless achievenemnt of my people. I am, however, not "proud" of them. They, like my blue eyes or my shoe size, happened to me. They are nothing I achieved. But that is my personal idiosyncrasy and it has nothing to do with self-hatred. I never understood how one can be proud of things one hasn't achieved oneself. But let's say I love them, which is true and maybe enough for patriotism. But what will the children of the Jewish victims of my people say? What would the children of those American soldiers who were killed in the war Germany started say if we were running around, bandying about German flags and telling everybody how proud we are? IF there is any "patriotism" possible, it would have to be one of a very, very quiet kind.

Somehow, "quiet" and "patriotism" don't seem to go together. There is no logical reason for that. It just seems to be that way.

But, I think Patriotism is a respect for tradition, not pride so much. The pride comes from participating in the tradition, even if it is in small ways like baking an apple pie and sitting with your family and eating it. Or, like going to a Memorial Day celebration and listening to the Vets speak of their memories of those who gave their lives, and getting a feeling of being part of something larger than oneself.

to me that is Patriotism. Pride might be a misused word. Or perhaps I should say, it is an accurate word, but it is only a small part of the whole that is Patriotism.

Does American Patriotism bother you?

I think Germany has much to be proud of. I do understand your points about humility and quiet patriotism. It would seem that people ought to be humbled by their history, not merely exalted. Exaltation should only be felt to the point that one is actually participating in the tradition.

No. Germany is an "organic" mixture of Teutonic tribes who lived there since time immemorial and just got a nice shakeup during the migration period. People and political structures were, for better or worse, "organically" grown. America is a (as I understand it) young, self-made country where people from all over Europe came to escape oppression and formed something entirely new out of the wilderness. That is something entirely different.

There is no German tradition whatsoever to kill those who are not "of the tribe". Moreover, there IS NO "German" tribe. See the unique richness and multitude within such a small country.

Preussen, the entity the allies destroyed after WWII because they thought "Prussian militarism" was responsible for the Nazis when the Nazis had crawled out of the Bavarian beer cellars and not from the Prussian barrack squares (and believe me that I, as a Westphalian Catholic, do not easily admit it), was enlightened and progressive when the rest of Europe was still wallowing in an absolutist quagmire. Gneisenau, Scharnhorst and Clausewitz invented the modern army and are still taught at the military academies of the world, including, I am sure, West Point. Enlightened Prussia was the harbour for the prosecuted Huguenots of France. Frederick Wilhelm, The "Great Elector" welcomed the Jewish refugees from Vienna in the 17th century in Prussia.

Germany was never any more bigoted or racist than any other country, probably even less so. Not even the Nazis followed an eliminatory policy regarding the few black German citizens who owed their existence to the minor German efforts at colonialism. Even the "Rhineland bastards" were "just" sterilized. Jesse Owens was well received at the Olympic Games 1936 by the German hosts and the lie that Hitler refused to shake his hand was … well, a politically correct lie.

I have always said that. I have said, too, that antisemitism is a phenomenon totally different from racism. What caused (and still causes) that deeply-rooted eliminatory German antisemitism (Yes Epa, Goldhagen was right!) is a different question. But there IS NO German "instinct to hunt down and kill all those who are not of the tribe".

By the way, careful that you don't fall into the trap that non-Americans commonly fall into when speaking to Americans. And that is this;

We ought not understand those things anymore than a German would be expected to understand the difference between Oregon and Virginia.

However, I don't think that there have been any wars between the German tribes based on tribal identity. Much has been said about the personal dislike between the Prussian icon Friedrich II (The Great) and Maria Theresia of Austria. But did Friedrich fight the Austrians because he didn't like their accent? Their (compared to Prussian circumstances) sissyfied lifestyle? I don't even believe it was a fight for the relative Prussian liberty. It was a struggle for political, and thus economical, dominance.

I happened to find the following by mere chance, while searching for some information on Piper Bill Millin and Lord Lovat at Flickr and it had me floored. I think it fits brilliantly the ongoing discussion about what makes men and women tick so differently.

La Style Anglais

Bad behaviour is more interesting, more downright entertaining, than goodness and rectitude. This is a great gift to the Devil of course, but there's no getting away from it. Who ever heard of a soap opera about sober, sexually continent people who go to bed early and take their holidays in Redcar?

I think this explains why the generals of the Wehrmacht High Command, with their whiff of arrogance, cruelty and romantic evil, have always received more attention than their equivalents on the "good" Allied side. For every biography or television documentary about Viscount Slim, or Alexander of Tunis, there must be a dozen about Guderian or Von Rundstedt and a hundred about Rommel. Yet there were some eccentric and flamboyant characters among the commanders of the wartime British Army...

Guderian? Rundstedt? And -- of all unlikely people -- ROMMEL as examples for "romantic evil"? For heaven's sake, Rommel looked exactly like what he was, the son of a small-town schoolteacher, Rundstedt looked exactly like what he was as well, namely the scion of a family of generations of dour Prussian career officers and Guderian, the only one of the three who shows a smidgeon of dash, looks basically too like what he was, namely the son of another Prussian officer, albeit from a lesser family. All three of them, whatever they may have in fact been, look like the archetype of sober, sexually continent men who go to bed early and take their holidays maybe not in Redcar, but in Warnemünde.

The discussion following the "La Style Anglais" picture at Flickr may serve as a key to such an (I think) obvious misconception:

Well, thats a DSO and bar, OBE, MC, 4 ww2 stars (one with a bar, maybe 8th army?), ww1 pair with an MiD, and probably the silver jubilee medal. Don't think there are too many out there with that combination. He looks like a poof but the medal bar proves he's solid English oak.

Alas, with the red hackle on his bonnet and the sword guard of his claymore poking out of the bottom right this 'solid english oak' is most likely a scotsman :) the red hackle is the regimental distinction of the Blackwatch regiment.

The soldier in question is a Commanding Officer from the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment). I believe he is Lt Col Critchley a very distinguished soldier and a gentleman. his son carried on the tradition of serving in the Regiment. Neither of which were in the least bit a poof nor English.

Why couldn't he have been a hero and a poof?

Indeed, and that's what men find so hard to understand. I see neither arrogance, nor cruelty, let alone romantic evil, in the German archetypes, just austereness, sobriety and professionalism, and I'd like to know how other women react to the different archetypes. My money is on the Brits, and not on the Germans in their demonstratively sober uniforms, who shout "straight" in marked difference to the elegant, flamboyant, dashing, bordering on the sexually ambiguous, Brits, who show more than just a whiff of arrogance, as I understand it.

Interestingly, the author of the "La Style Anglais" entry contradicts himself by quoting from Evelyn Waugh's "Men At Arms":

He was the great Halberdier enfant terrible of the First World War; the youngest company commander in the history of the Corps; the slowest to be promoted; often wounded, often decorated, recommended for the Victoria Cross, twice court martialled for disobedience to orders in the field, twice acquitted in recognition of the brilliant success of his independent actions; a legendary wielder of the entrenching tool; where lesser men collected helmets Ritchie-Hook once came back from a raid across no-man's-land with the dripping head of a German sentry in either hand.

Frankly, that is not exactly a prime example of goodness and rectitude and a scenario in which the boringly sedate mugs of neither, Guderian, nor Rommel, nor Rundstedt seem quite to fit.

At my other blog there is an entry about Rex Whistler, another one of the Brit archetype, again one who carries that sexual ambiguity, and again one who was found irresistible by many women (and men), a feeling to which I can relate.

And of course, Lord Lovat, the man who triggered off this entry, makes an excellent romantic hero as well:

There is hardly anything more endearing about the male sex, and I am not cynical or jaundiced here, than the trait, which sees something romantic, even if it is romantic evil, in Guderian, or Rommel, or Rundstedt. The great tragedy is that their women are meanwhile eloping with Evelyn Waugh's Ritchie-Hook.

Bill Millin, commonly known as Piper Bill, was personal piper to Brigadier Lord Lovat, commander of 1 Special Service Brigade at D-Day.

Pipers had traditionally led Scottish troops into battle, but the death toll in World War I was so high that the practice was banned by the British high command. However, Lord Lovat (above in 1942) asked Bill Millin, then 21, to ignore instructions and to pipe the Commandos ashore at Sword Beach. Wearing his kilt and armed only with his bagpipes, Bill marched up and down the shore playing "Hielan' Laddie" and "The Road to the Isles" as his comrades fell around him. German snipers later attested, they did not target Millin because they believed him to be mad.

The action was portrayed in the 1962 film "The Longest Day". The actor playing Millin was Pipe Major Leslie de Laspee, the official piper to Her Majesty The Queen Mother in 1961.

Do you think Stockholm Syndrome really exists as most people know it?

When the women of the Norrmalmstorg robbery behaved so insanely during and after the incident it was too big and too ridiculous an issue to just brush under the carpet. So someone had to come up with an explanation and it couldn't sound like some update of Victorian "hysteria" (i.e. merely point out that all sufferers were female!) or they would have been ignored.

But really, other than the time scale, how is it any different to women staying with abusive partners or even the slow surrender to the barbarians at the gates?

How many adult men have suffered from Stockholm syndrome vs adult women. On the other side how many captive women have pulled off an "Hawaiian good luck sign"?

I think that eventually Stockholm syndrome will be viewed as just another arm on the octopus of woman's insanity.

In other words, "Stockholm syndrome" isn't an excuse for women like this but just the politically correct way of saying everything you did about her. A way to state the truth without admitting the truth.

The links Carl provided (see here and here) explain the "Hawaiian good luck sign" and reveal how MEN react under the pressure of kidnapping as shown by the crew members of USS Pueblo:

USS Pueblo was a Navy intelligence ship which was captured by North Korea in January 1968. For the next 11 months, Commander Bucher and his crew were held as POWs by the North Koreans, and were starved and tortured during their captivity. The treatment became even harsher when the North Koreans finally understood that crewmen were giving them "the finger" in staged propaganda photos, which they had explained as a "Hawaiian good luck sign". The men mocked their captors, too, by the wording of extorted confessions. As none of the North Koreans spoke English well enough to write such a confession himself, they were reduced to just verifying the meaning of the words, but failed to catch the puns and popular cultural hints: "We paean [pee on] the North Korean state. We paean their great leader Kim Il Sung". And: "We, as conscientious human beings who were cast upon the rocks and shoals of immorality by the tidal waves of Washington’s naughty policies know that neither the frequency nor the distances of these transgressions into the territorial waters of this sovereign peace-loving nation matter because penetration however slight is sufficient to complete the act," "Rocks and Shoals" being Navy jargon for the Uniform Code of Military Justice and "penetration however slight" the legal definition of rape.)

What conclusion can we draw from this? I have discussed earlier at this blog women who damage or even kill their own children to get attention:

If those perpetrators hadn't been female they would have been labelled simply evil. As they are, there is a long name now for it: Münchhausen by proxy syndrome.

And the Stockholm syndrome sufferers, we can safely assume, hysterical.

Maybe the answer to the question why the same women who refuse to accept good, caring men, but rather choose to vilify and marginalize them, succumb so easily to evil and alien forces, is really, as Carl suggests, insanity.

I guess, should another USS Pueblo incident happen today, the brave men, once home again, would have to face a trial for mocking the great plight and heroic efforts of the feminist movement.

Our female German correspondent, The Editrix, has some intriguing insights about the female sex, and what causes women (as women) to do some of the things they do.

At VFR is posted an article concerning the actions of a Dutch female reporter putting herself in harm's way. Read the article -- titled: Wilders tells the Dutch elite what they are -- to understand what exactly I'm talking about.

Now, I'm not trying to make any sweeping generalizations, truly, but I've witnessed this kind of thing before in certain women who are (relatively) close to me. They engage themselves in certain self-flagellating, ceremonious, ritualistic behaviors, and in their particular cases I've generally identified it as a self-centered grasp for the sympathy due to victims as well as the applause and adulation due to someone so obviously self-less, warm, loving, non-judgmental, and so forth and so on. In other words, my sense in this particular case is that this woman seeks self-promotion and self-gratification, and she was willing to put everything (including her life) at risk to get it. What I find so irritating sometimes, is that people go along with it, legitimizing this kind of behavior, thus effectively creating a monster, er, a whole host of 'em.

But I want to hear (or read) Nora's point of view, as well as any other woman's perspective who would like to add her own thoughts or insights.

I very sure that the Taliban comforted themselves about their being seduced by this woman by pretending that she was somehow "captured" and thus technically a legitimate object of rapine rather than a Western harlot who set out to create this entire situation, but is there any basis for this delusion?

Wilders is wrong on this one. This woman didn't emotionally surrender to her 'captors' as a way of denying her fear and helplessness (though that problem does afflict a good part of Dutch society). The real point of the story isn't whether her 'captors' respected her, but that she had boundless contempt for them.

"The noble savage even “invited her to a threesome,” i.e. to have sex with him and one of his three wives. “Ghazi was a very religious man. It is all so hypocritical. He was a complete fool,” she writes." He actually thought we had something, it was sooo amusing to toy with him like that. As if I would really give his benighted wives any pointers on how a real woman does these things. Teehee!

Yes, I think Wilders overestimates the motives of a woman like that. Her dhimmitude is only a symptom for a larger problem. Women like that are suffering from the attention whore syndrome, which makes them going for a life and for experiences totally opposed to those of a woman in a traditional society. Something like that MAY end in dhimmitude (and it very often does), but, as the example of Oriana Fallaci, Patron Saint of the more hyperventilating faction of Islam-critique, shows, it does not necessarily end in dhimmitude. Basically, Wilders takes that woman too seriously or better: he takes her seriously where he shouldn't. Of course women like that are dangerous, but not so much because they tend to be dhimmis, but because they are undermining like no other group, the basis of our culture, the family.

I realize it is a nasty thing to say about a woman who has been, after all, raped, but maybe the experience to succumb to a man, even under unfortunate circumstances, was a new and, ultimately, positive one.

Feminism has given rape such an ambiguous meaning. If a woman regrets that she'd had sex with that guy the morning after she can go and get him for "date rape". So what do we expect will come out of that.

The comparison to Joan of Arc is relatively easy to understand, by comparison. Joan of Arc was a young virgin. Pretty much everything else about her fades to insignificance in the eyes of the kind of people disposed to view her as a kind of historical sex object. Thus these people are just making what they think is a tasteful allusion to the 'liberating' influence of these self-promoting whores by the comparison.

It's horribly insulting, of course, but the insult is just built into the way they view the world. It isn't something that simply defies all possible explanation, like the claim that this woman was somehow 'raped' under any possible construction of the term.

I am filled with the urge to shout obscenities at the entire world, just thinking about this. It isn't good for my personal well-being. There isn't a pit in hell deep enough...there just isn't. You'd think that God, with a little of His infinite power, could have made the pits of hell a bit deeper.

Oh, yes, infinite wisdom too. I get the point. My bad, deeper pits not the answer, yeah, yeah...sure, whatever. I do get it...sometimes. I don't necessarily comprehend any of it, but infinity is like that.

I think that quote really gets at the core of the matter. It isn't that there aren't courageous, sane, good women, it's that there is a cultural bias against admitting that women can be evil. This creates a demand for lengthy explications of the non-evilness of every woman involved in some outrageously heinous activity. Thus you have a media firestorm of apology for every wicked witch of the west, much of which goes so far as to set her up as a heroine, while the genuine heroism (usually of the quiet variety but not always) gets almost no coverage because it doesn't take any special 'insight' to see that these women are good. Besides which, it's rather an embarrassment to the apologist for evil to set it side by side with good.

That is, of course, the 'innocent' explanation, which assumes no extraordinary wrongdoing on the part of the apologists. It covers much historical apology for evil women and most of the acceptance of such apologies, but most modern apologists for evil are not so innocent.

The truth is that many 'immoral' women are really the victims of evil men, but not all are. Probably not even most. And even the real victims are not thereby heroines.

Of course there are. I think (I may be wrong, though) that Marianism has lumbered our culture with an unintended and unexpected burden. While Islam states that all women are temptresses and evil, our Christian culture presumes the opposite. That functioned as long as women were willing to perform their duties in a traditional society, i.e. as long as they were busy and satisfied with their role as wives and mothers and supervised and reined-in by society. In our permissive age, women's natural proneness for the shallow and footle coupled with an intense desire for attention wreaks havoc on society, the more as the latter won't understand what is happening. It can't be the saintly women's, images of the Madonna all of them, fault or can it?

And I seriously believe that men are more often than not the victims of women and not vice versa. If you look at a broken down marriage where the husband has really behaved like the proverbial swine, you'll in all probability find a woman behind the scenes.

Dhimmi Without A Cause

In the previous entry I stated that the main issue about the Joanie de Rijkes of this world is not that they are dhimmis who gladly surrender to the powers out to destroy the West. Most of them do, but that is not the core of the problem. The more intelligent of this type of abandoned woman may as well turn out as an avid Islam-critic, as Fallaci did, but then, intelligence is a rare commodity.

Early in 2006, the case of the archaeologist Susanne Osthoff, who was kidnapped in Iraq, made headlines in Germany. This, this and this entry may serve as a reminder. I suddenly recalled Osthoff, when a commenter at VFR drew a (fatuous) analogy between Joanie de Rijke and Joan of Arc and I remembered that Osthoff, another one of those abandoned woman in need of a thrill, was compared to the French virgin saint as well. I wrote in 2006:

Osthoff, who dumped her child at a boarding school when she ought to have looked after it herself, Osthoff who married an Arab (albeit not for long), Osthoff, who could have worked in a field of archaeology more appropriate for a woman, say, in Sweden, and if I were a cynic I'd say now that even there is a fair probability of being raped by a Muslim. Osthoff, who could have refrained from embarking on such a non-career at all, but searched for the stability of family life she so pooh-poohed.

But this woman is, of course, only interesting because she is such an obvious paragon of deliquency and because there are countless others like her, happily undermining the core values of our culture.

At the high end it's Princess Diana strutting around in dungarees against landmines because even being married to the heir to the throne of England couldn't satisfy her craving for attention, and at the low end it's those perverts who marry death row inmates, with the Fallacis, Osthoffs and de Rijkes somewhere in between. A "cause", however ill-fated, lost and destructive (or even good), has none of them. Unfair to dhimmis!

Or: Joanie Making Politics on Her Back

I admit I hate the Dutch. I hate the way one, being German, used to be treated in that pokey little country (it has become better over the years, though, but I still hate them), I hate that they nevertheless had no compunctions about taking our money, and I hate that sanctimonious post-war attitude specifically because the valiant polder-dwellers had been the only people in WWII that surrendered to Germany without having fired a single shot and who had delivered their Jews gratuitously and free platform edge. I hate their ugly, pink, fat and blonde royals whom even two generations of inordinately goodlooking German husbands weren't able to grade up and I hate, once again, their sanctimoniousness which showed, impressively although not exclusively, when they disinvited the future father-in-law of the future fat, pink and blonde king from the wedding because he had once hold a mediocre office in the Cabinet of a third-rate, long forgotten South American dictator, whereas same future king's German grandfather had only been in the SS.

And BOY! DO I hate that unspeakable slut that made headlines recently because Geert Wilders (whom the Dutch don't deserve and whose only shortcoming is that he is looking irritatingly Dutch) had cited her as a prime example of the moral decline of the elites in his country.

Joanie de Rijke is a Dutch journalist who was kidnapped in Afghanistan last November when all she wanted was to do some serious research on on the deaths of ten French soldiers hacked to pieces by the Taliban for the arse-and-tits magazine she is working for. Joanie looks painfully Dutch and exactly like the simpering silly bitch she is.

When she met the Taliban to 'hear their side of the story', the valiant freedom fighters, who would have thought so, kidnapped and the commander frequently raped her but not nearly enough because she wrote a book about it later and regurgitated it in chat shows (see picture) too. She still thinks (if one can call it that) that she was not taking unnecessary risks.

“This story” Wilders said, “is a perfect illustration of the moral decline of our elites. They are so blinded by their own ideology that they turn a blind eye to the truth. Rape? Well, I would put this into perspective, says the leftist journalist: the Taliban are not monsters. Our elites prefer to deny reality rather than face it. Our elites, whether they are politicians, journalists, judges, subsidy gobblers or civil servants, have dumped common sense in order to deny reality. It is not just this raped journalist who is suffering from Stockholm syndrome, but the entire Dutch elite. The only moral reference they have is: do not irritate the Muslims - that is the one thing they will condemn.”

So what did Joanie say:

"It's not black and white. It was the commander who raped me. I wanted to give vent to my hatred, to chop his head off and kick it off the cliff. He was schizophrenic: the following day, he said he was sorry. In that sort of situation - no matter how awful - you develop a bond with those people. You have to, if you want to survive. You could say the hatred and that bond go side by side."

"Just let me make one thing clear: I hate him for what he did to me. I hate him because he raped me. I was very, very mad and I wanted to kill him right away. But the day after it happened, he more or less asked me to forgive him. That was very confusing for me. It was a very schizophrenic situation because he had mood swings. I just had to cope with that. Normally you can show that you are angry but I couldn't of course. I had to get on with them. I just couldn't say to this commander what I was really thinking because then he would have killed me right away."

Very very mad Joanie said, too, that she was nevertheless shown respect.

Which eerily recalls the old joke, where the lady of the house is one female short for a proper dinner placement and, desperate, puts good clothes on a pretty maid and hopes for the best. When she asks her afterwards whether she's been respected, the girl replies: "Yes ma'am. Once on the balcony and twice in the garden."

And now Joanie is angry - not at her rapist but at Geert Wilders: "Geert Wilders bedrijft politiek over mijn rug." "He makes politics on my back." To make politics on her back is something to which Joanie can rightfully claim exclusive rights.

It may be a measure of the decline of our culture that even the attention whores have no class anymore. Many years ago Oriana Fallaci delivered a piece of memorable journalism and later recalled:

... that she found Khomeini intelligent, and “the most handsome old man I had ever met in my life. He resembled the ‘Moses’ sculpted by Michelangelo.” And, she said, Khomeini was “not a puppet like Arafat or Qaddafi or the many other dictators I met in the Islamic world. He was a sort of Pope, a sort of king—a real leader. And it did not take long to realize that in spite of his quiet appearance he represented the Robespierre or the Lenin of something which would go very far and would poison the world. People loved him too much. They saw in him another Prophet. Worse: a God.”

And nobody laughed or expressed embarrassment after it appeared in The New Yorker in 2006. It was, after all, by "La Fallaci".

It was a doubtful thing, anyway, to give Khomeini publicity to begin with, but Fallaci didn't really do research to inform but was collecting scalps and thus couldn't resist.

She, too, cashed in on matters which had better remained private. What does one call a woman who had an, as an uncritically adoring media called it, "tempestuous" affair with a much younger man who then kicked his unborn child out of her womb, a woman who didn't leave that man and rather wrote two books about it?

And exactly like that was her criticism of Islam, shrill and PMS-ing hysterical. She stomped her little foot and wrote not what Islam is, but how "La Fallaci" found it.

But to do her justice, at least Fallaci was seriously attractive, did not write for crappy men's mags AND ABOVE ALL SHE WAS NOT DUTCH.

But what makes a serious journalist and writer like Fallaci and a floozy like Joanie de Rijke tick when putting themselves in harm's way to then write books about it? What made the ageing Fallaci swoon and drool over an old billy goat like Khomeini? Shameless lucre? Yes, but not JUST that. Attention whoredom? Yes, and again not just that. I think it's boredom. Boredom with their lifes, with the "good" men they meet, boredom with the little things in life, with a normal, ordinary life, with ordinary, everyday human decency. An able, clever woman like Fallaci goes and interviews Khomeini and Kissinger and writes well-received books about an unsavoury relationship with an unsuitable man, a silly bitch like de Rijke goes to Afghanistan to be raped by a Taliban, then writes a book about it to be totally overwhelmed by the brouhaha she caused and which to understand she is too pathetic. And at the bottom of the barrel, yes at the absolute bottom of the very same barrel we find those females who go and marry death row inmates. Our only hope remains that they'll never find out how to write books.

Edited to add: To end this on a conciliatory note, I'd like to say finally something nice about the Dutch. There IS after all, something that is bigger than their dhimmitude and that's their tightfistedness. Which shows that they are not totally without principles. I overlooked that when I first read the article in the Brussels Journal from which I took the Wilders-quote.

As Joanie put it so endearingly:

“The Belgians have done nothing. They said it was a matter for the Dutch. And the Dutch authorities said they never pay ransom. In Afghanistan they know well enough that Western governments pay up after an abduction. Germany, Italy and France have all paid ransoms.”

Which may not be a terrific argument, but it at least reminds of another one of those vacuous, thrill-addicted women, the German archaeologist Susanne Osthoff, who was kidnapped in Iraq and whom I will now take up from the blog bilges in the next entry.

Or: The Voluntary Re-GDR-fication

I am currently tackling the problem of our garden, a biggish affair. While the entire property covers 1,500 m², the lawn covers "only" 1,000 m² because there is the house, a garden shed, several big trees, various flower beds and vegetable patches. We have decided to do most of the gardening ourselves (or rather: I will do it myself) instead of paying somebody to do it, and I had no idea how much there is to learn about lawn mowers and how expensive the powerful ones are. I had no idea either how quickly a garden turns into a weedy mess without care.

The garden, although it used to be well tended until we took over and, strictly speaking, not ugly, is uninspired. It's the garden of somebody who had little money to spend, didn't care and had no sense for beauty (but for order) and plenty of use for some additional self-grown grub. (It just occurs to me that this is a fair description for the former GDR.) Yes, I am slowly coming to the point now: I haven't the faintest about and I am not keen on gardening so I did an Internet search (in German), first for plants that are pretty to look at, uncomplicated to grow and in need of little care, and second how to turn a vegetable patch into a flower- (or other ornamental) bed. The result let me immediately rummage for my beta-blockers: While there are countless hits on how to turn a flower- (or other ornamental) bed into a vegetable patch, the reverse is almost non-existent. Why? I soon found out why. At the website of one of the public radio stations, under the header "Tips for Hobby Gardeners" we are informed that:

Michelle Obama, the wife of the American president, shows us how to do it: Instead of growing flowers she turns the flower beds around the White House into vegetable patches. Thus, the ornamental beds are put to their best use and the vitamin-supply is ensured.

This let me not just rummage for my beta-blockers but curse the fact that I had no emetic available or at least a stiff drink.

Frankly, that couple in the White House disgusts me so much that I always try to skip the ubiquitous information about it, so I had no idea whether that is true. Another Internet search later, I know it is only partly true. Not THE flower beds around the White House are turned into vegetable patches, but a sizeable bit of the South Lawn. (Which proves once again that if anything ought to convince even the last American that his current president is deeply and convincingly anti-American, it ought to be this totally extracerebral, bowel-located adulation by the Germans. How many times did I say already that the German main identification staple as a people is, sad as it may be, hatred of America?)

But let's forget blissfully about the charade in the White House and focus on all those many little Germans who do not grow vegetables in their garden as an opportunist PR-gag, but as a lifestyle choice. Why would people want to turn a perfectly nice patch of grass or flowers into an ugly pile of dirt and manure to harvest some deformed, bug-infested lumps of vegetable DNS? This is, mind you, one of the most densely populated countries in the world and gardening has not, like in England, any "snob value". I am not talking about people with REALLY big gardens, time and knowledge how to grow useful plants effectively, either. Also, this is a country, where staple foods and fruit/vegetables in season are cheap. So again: Why?

Although hardly anybody of those wannabe self-sufficients is a militant "Green" with a capital "G" they are following an ideology, just as the housewife, who stridently demands that her breadwinning husband is taking down the dustbin after a long day at the office does not see herself as a feminist. Still, behind their activities are the claims of a political movement that rejects modernity. The list of statement-making labels that further the view of a set of relative moral worths behind different sorts of food is ever-growing. Fair Trade, "Bio", organic, non-gm are only some of them and what they all share is the rejection and vilification of modern farming practices without which millions in the third world would starve to death. Idealism kills people.

An old joke exemplifies quite well the "green" image of men:

In the Sixties, people here in Germany started to turn their vegetable patches into gardens because they could now afford beauty and enjoyed it together with their freedom. That was when the old-fashioned farmers' cooperation trading posts, soon to be turned into "garden centers", ceased to sell horse feed to sell bulbs and lawn seed instead. Now we are going the opposite way. People are prepared to victimize pleasure and beauty for a totalitarian world view. In the former GDR because they hadn't much of a choice, now they do it voluntarily. Idealism kills pleasure too.

Tribute to A Different Denmark

Or: Cut off their legs and feed them heroin. They are embarrassing us!

Back in December 2008, I published an entry Some highly non-PC musings on sport at my style blog, from which I take an excerpt that seems now to be eerily clairvoyant regarding the current political climate.

I stated back then that I am more than just a bit sceptical about exclusive competitions for the disabled. I thought and I think they are abortive attempts at egalitarianism and a politically correct impertinence imposed on the sport-watching public. I want to know how fast the fastest of able-bodied men can run and I think it's a thrill to watch. I don't want to know how fast a man with one leg can run and I don't want to watch him at such an excrutiating exploit either. Besides, it creates virtual ghettoes and denies that handicapped people can, in certain sports, compete successfully against able-bodied competitors.

On June 16, 1956 at Stockholm, Sweden, a woman from Denmark won the silver medal in Olympic dressage at the second Olympic Games where women were allowed to compete in this sport ever. Lis Hartel was paralysed by polio below the knees. Even though she could only walk with the aid of a stick and had to be helped on and off her horse, she won the silver medal and repeated her performance four years later at the Rome Olympics. Nowadays, she'd be confined to compete at freak shows for the sake of political correctness. Justice must prevail and we have gone a long way towards downlevelling.

My entry ended there. However, it is obvious, that there is still an even longer way to go ahead of us and we are all following it without demur.

Correction: Lis Hartel had won Silver 1952 in Helsinki already, so THIS was her repeat performance. My apologies for this mistake.

Heroin for Everybody!

The sickeningly PC rag Expatica is drooling enthusiastically over the latest madness:

School pupils in Copenhagen may soon be able to study Arabic as a second language under a new proposal that seeks to give a boost to children from immigrant families, city officials said Monday.

"It is very important that we give students a choice of languages that includes Arabic, as there is a need to give a helping hand to young people from the Arab-speaking countries to reinforce their education and integration into Danish society," Bo Asmus Kjeldgaard, the city's vice-mayor in charge of youth policy, told AFP.

It would be offered alongside other foreign languages already taught in Denmark such as English, French and German.

All four languages would be offered as options for the entrance exams that pupils have to sit at 15 to get into high school.

By offering Arabic on the curriculum, the idea is to give children from immigrant families a better chance at succeeding in those tests.

Copenhagen has asked Denmark's education ministry, which must agree to the proposals, to start teaching Arabic when students return to school in August from their summer holidays.

Some 10 percent of Copenhagen's 31,000 secondary school pupils speak the language as their mother tongue, city authorities said.

Despite counting just six percent non-citizens among its 5.5 million inhabitants, Denmark has long struggled to integrate its immigrant population amid widespread skepticism of foreigners, especially those who are Muslim.

Kjeldgaard said it would also be a huge advantage in the future for Danish companies doing business with Arab countries.

Yeah, right! All the so far un-integrable rabble will now magically turn into top-managers and further the the future of Danish companies doing business with Arab countries. Without speaking Danish, of course.

And now lets cut off the legs of all able-bodied Danish athletes so that they can compete with the physically handicapped on the same level at those freak shows called "paralympics" and distribute free heroin to everybody so that those poor addicts won't feel rejected, ostracized and marginalized anymore.

The Day That Changed Germany

The iconic photo by photographer Jürgen Henschel. Student Friederike Dollinger, a stranger to Ohnesorg, is holding him crying: "What did you do, you've killed him, he is dead and now look at that!"

On June 2, 1967, Benno Ohnesorg, a German student of Romance and German literature, was shot dead by a plain clothes police officer during a rally against the visit of the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. As a pacifist, Ohnesorg was a member of a Christian Protestant community. He was a poet and aspired to become a grammar school teacher, married, his wife being pregnant with their first child. This had been the first rally he had ever attended. He was 26.

Karl-Heinz Kurras, the fatal shooter, was found not guilty of negligent homicide on November 21, 1967.

Benno Ohnesorgs death led to the militant radicalisation of the extreme left and became the central argument for the self-justification of those who later killed almost hundred people. The Movement 2 June was named after the day of his death. The rest is history.

Now two historians, Cornelia Jabs und Helmut Müller-Enbergs, have made an interesting, potentially explosive, discovery. In an article in the respected historic specialist magazine, "Deutschlandarchiv", they published an article "Der 2. Juni 1967 und die Staatssicherheit". While doing research in the Stasi archives, they found documents such as the signed formal obligation of Karl-Heinz Kurras, his SED-membership book and several personnel reviews by his case officers. Kurras had belonged, so it seems, to "Linie IV" within the Stasi, known to have been responsible for "less than pretty dealings", so Müller-Enbergs und Jabs.

Kurras, so the historians, got a radio message from the DDR-Ministerium für Staatssicherheit following Ohnesorge's death, saying: "Destroy material at once. Stop work for now. Consider event as deplorable mishap...".

Anyway, Kurras was, following June 2, 1967, not expelled from the SED and as a member of a special task force of the West Berlin police, a unit that was set up to detect traitors within their own ranks, he was working at an extremely sensitive spot indeed.

So far, the historians can not tell for sure, whether Kurras had killed Ohnesorg at East Berlin's instigation or not. Facts are, that he was a crack shot who was unlikely to have hit Ohnesorg by chance, that he hadn't been "attacked" by anybody and certainly not by Ohnesorg, that he had hopelessly entangled himself in contradictions in the aftermath of the fatal event, and that investigation authorities had done everything to clear the name of "one of them".

Asked 40 years later whether he had, then, made a mistake, Kurras, then 79, replied: "Mistake? I ought to have blasted them to send the scraps flying and not just once; I ought to have shot five, six times. Everybody who attacks me will be destroyed and that's that", letting, incidentally, slip that his defence about the warning shot he had allegedly fired had been a lie.

Elsewhere, Gesine Schwan, professor of political sciences, Greens-backed nominee of the Social Democratic Party for the upcoming federal presidential elections and possessor of a face she duly deserves, informed us, that she refuses to use the epithet "Unrechtsstaat" (lawless state) for the former GDR because not everything had been bad there.

Admiration as A Compulsory Exercise

On Friday, Navid Kermani, a Muslim writer and orientalist, was expelled from the winners' list of the annual Hessian culture award because it had transpired that he had, as a good Muslim ought to, assigned from a great height a place in the back row to the Christian faith when he had written (among other things) about the painting "Crucifixion" by the Italian baroque painter Guido Reni that the crucifix is a blasphemous, pornographic and idolatrous image. In the Swiss newspaper NZZ, that was, in one of those shallow, vain, blabbering "reflections", which go down only too well with only too many.

The state of Hesse had intended to award their 45,000 Euro prize jointly to a Jew, a Muslim, a Catholic and a Lutheran to honour the cultural achievements of the monotheistic religions.

Notoriously liberal Cardinal Karl Lehmann of Mainz for once balked and refused to share the award with Navid Kermani, as did Peter Steinacker, former head of the Lutheran church of Hesse and Nassau.

The board then wrote to Kermani withdrawing the award. The fourth recipient is Jewish, Salomon Korn, vice president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and leader of the Frankfurt Jewish congregation.

Reactions were predictable. The speaker of Germany's parliament (according to the order of precedence Germany's second-highest ranking official after President Horst Köhler) Norbert Lammert, a member of the Christian democratic Union, Catholic, denounced the board's turnabout, saying "If this is true, they should abolish the prize altogether ... Culture is nice, tolerance too, but one can't have both without making a big effort." It ought not to be forgotten that we will have federal- and elections for the European parliament soon and that the Iranian contacts of business men close to the CDU are not to be neglected and need, indeed, big efforts.

Aiman A Mazyek, secretary of the Central Council of Muslims, who thinks that it's quite alright to make jokes about the Prophet Mohammed as long as one does not talk about his flaws, said to the Berlin newspaper Tagesspiegel: "How would they have felt if a Muslim had refused to meet a churchman because he did not revere the Prophet Mohammed?" The question is not how they would have FELT, but what they would have DONE, Aiman. respectively what they would have NOT done.

But that isn't the whole story. Largely ignored by the mainstream media remained the fact that Kermani hadn't been the first choice for the award. That had been the Muslim Fuat Sezgin. Sezgin had refused to accept the award together with the Jew Salomon Korn whose view of the situation in Gaza Sezgin found objectionable.

Notabene that it's quite alright for the German media that a Muslim rejects an award because of insurmountable cultural differences with a Jew, but not if a Catholic does exactly that to a Muslim.

Just who is this particular Muslim? Navid Kermani, born in Germany to Iranian parents, who gets much acclaim as both, an orientalist and as a protagonist of "moderate Islam", is married to Katajun Armipur, another orientalist and protagonist of "moderate Islam" as well as another "Germano-Iranian" (as the politically correct description goes). Armipur has gotten some fame (or is it notoriety?) when she had stated that "even thinking about replacing stoning with other punishments is a step in the right direction" when in August 2004, in the Iranian town of Neka, a 16-year-old girl was hanged because of "unchaste behaviour". Kermani and Armipur are considered models of well-assimilated, "moderate Muslims" from whom we can learn a lot and whose admiration is a compulsory exercise. Notabene, too, that media darling Kermani's Habilitationsschrift, an orgiastically acclaimed effort, was in great parts lifted fom the epochal work "Das Meer der Seele" by the peerless and long dead German orientalist Hellmut Ritter, as Gudrun Eussner substantiates in her article (sadly in German only) "Hellmut Ritter: Das Meer der Seele - und der Tümpel von Navid Kermani" (Helmut Ritter: The Sea of the Soul and Navid Kermani's Puddle).

Different from another case of multicultural enrichment I do not think that Kermani makes up his shit arbitrarily as he goes along, but that it is cooly calculated. However, what I then said about a society that showers those "culture-enrichers" with acclaim still stands: Only in a country like Germany, with that dangerous mixture of self-hatred and denial and without any moral and ethical compass, phonies like him can become the media darlings of the unenlightened masses. In any sane society he would have been laughed out of the door ages ago.

Yesterday night, when I finished this, it seemed so self-evident that I didn't say it. In broad daylight there seems something to be missing, so here it is: If anything shows that there is no "dialogue" with Muslims possible, it is this carefully calculated mixture of open insults, taqqiyya and half-truths, wrapped in the smugly chic and vain harangue of an educated -- WESTERN educated -- intellectual.
