Indie Rock

You are the great big surprise

In my lonesome forest stroll

A silent party of unchecked emotions

In filters of Instagram

As strangers waft in and out

Across the shadows and light

My heart splutters along

To the strains of mandolins and

Broken string guitars

And I fumble over

Torn rugs and empty bottles of wine

As kindred spirits dance effervescently

All around us with ribbons dripping from trees

Reaching towards us in whispery tentacles

The wind hums its prayers

Over pastel speckled skin

Shivers down my spine as I spin

Slow motion towards you

Murmuring words I had once forgotten

As our hands meet in a dance

just before our eyes do

I lose all sense of being

And fall into the magic of your world

The razor wires you pull across my taught skin

are ripping it in places

allowing for jewels of my blood to bloom

and melt in the hazy atmosphere

dulled down by your smoke

I feel nothing as I watch you

Mark the paces in an abstract state of mind

The shattered glass that is strewn around

Play the part of little mirrors

on which I see you, naked

Walk up to the antique ebony table and

Ease out a handful of black rose petals

From a very tall vase

And throw them up in the air like confetti

A celebratory mood

I moan

I shift on the cold cold cement

You turn on the radio

To some Etta James

and light a row of expensive candles

I can taste the pool of blood I am lying in

Bleeding and staining the sheets

Staining the walls

Bursting forth like poder puffs

Of deep red

In the dry air

Sweet to the tongue

Warm in your hands

Dripping

You thought I kiled you

I killed your freedom

I was like a fiend that stole into your garden

Crept under your walls

Manpulating

Twisting

Pure evil

In your selfish justifications

and self induced paranoia

A demon in your eyes

A creation of your fickle yet fertile

if you’d instead seen me for what I am

the one you grew to love

you might have saved us both

I will write the verses

I will sing the songs

I will play the drumbeats

Every tear must be a tear closer to where the tears will end

I will wash the dishes

I will switch off the lights

I will say the prayers like I always do

Every night must be a night that’s marked off the list of unknown nights

I will watch the stars fall

I will watch the tail lights fade

I will watch the last neon sign go off

Every dawn is a dawn of expectancy of being the last dawn

I will pray as faithfully as I have done

I will worship with my hands held high

I will believe fervently as I possibly can

Everything I ever believed in was a lie, so Jesus you better be for real

I am a poem person

Little verses

Not always making sense

Not always flowing

Not always connected

No end no beginning

Just a being

Fleeting

Pick me up now

read a few lines

feel the pain

tumultuous

or the mirth that bubbles

beneath

and if you dare

bring it all out to the surface

Think of me too much

and you’d disintegrate

Love me just a bit

and leave me wanting

Besides, you can always fold me up

and carry me in your wallet

because I touched you

somewhere you don’t understand

Big fat books are always left behind,

anyway.

Up and down this small room

Hands in my hair

I can almost feel the sweat

I look around the space

Messed up with crumpled paper

And coffee stains

An unmade bed

I twist my shoulders

Open my eyes again to see

The sunlight streak in and

Light up the dust that is yet to settle

Nine months deep

Stress at breaking point

Taunt and tied up

Frozen in time

The world begins its cycle

I’m sorry I can’t love you

Though it is what you want

And maybe what you deserve

You won’t feel the emptiness
For I take it with me
To settle down in some fake paradise
I must create with my ingenuity

All you’ll think of is the very many
Ways in which to explore the space
The tanned bodies and the text book positions
When in my space all ill hear is the memory of you breathe

When I’m gone
The days will follow the nights
As torturously as they have done so far
To sting my eyes with light when all inside me is darkness
A twilight in an eternal what could have been

When I’m gone
I’ll be your mistake. That one big regret
When all I am is a freak who loved you
A freak that cared
But to me you’ll always be the angel

A bloody long time
It fell every morning
As everyone else woke up to
Sunny side up with a sense of belonging
It fell through summer
Two years long

Railed in my head

Eternal monsoon

Today as I woke up

Finally the curtains are here
Dark dusty coffee shade
To blot out the searing summer sun
To blend with the moss green
Abstract walls
In a room
Where our bed stands
A centre piece
A stage
For the battles we fight
You always win

And I the meek
Retreat into the dusk and the dawn
Where shadows hide the bruises
Till the silence heals the battle scars
And I come out with renewed vengeance
To fight again
Fr what I think is mine
A trophy I thought I deserved
in an epic I had pre written
to fight till death
for losing is beyond comprehension
but you always win
and stand proud
amidst the carnage
of a heart that only knew to love you
but now I grow tired
with every wave of fight
from one confusing day
to long drawn out sleepless night
and amidst the glint of swords
in a moment of surreal silence
I see that this might all be in vain
That you can’t fight a war for peace
I can’t claim a prize without my name
And maybe it’s time to let go
To realize
In a moment of desolation
That love
Is not for everyone

If tears were enough, this desert would be green

If love was what it took, these walls would be broken
If I were the one, things might have been, what they could’ve been
If forgiveness were enough, we’d be past this twilight
If caring were enough, these wounds would’ve all but healed
If songs were enough, youd be calm to sleep
If I were the one, you’d be sleeping, here with me
If dreams were enough, then reality wouldn’t make me bleed
