These are some good tips, especially the one about cutting your losses and leaving a trade when it doesn't do what you expect.

One of my new rules, that I have been employing successfully, is to buy and sell in pieces. Meaning, do not buy your full position, or sell your whole position, in one trade. This is because no matter how much research and analysis you do, you will rarely pick the lowest price to buy and highest price to sell.

For example, with BLDP, I thought $4.60 looked like the perfect entry. I want to own 2-3,000 shares if possible. However, I only bought 1,000 shares at $4.60. Now, if it dips to $4.50 or lower, I will not be upset, I will just continue to build my position. This works out psychologically as well as financially. If somehow I am spot on with my initial $4.60 entry, I will still make money on my 1,000 shares. A true win-win.

Market Update - Course Change

After the Fed changed it's mind about stopping the bond buying program (good decision), my stance changed on the market. I waited for a dip (we got one with all of the Government shutdown stuff), and put the 401K money back in the market. Which has worked out nicely.

I am bullish on the market until the Fed changes it's stance again.

MARKET ALERT

Looking at the market recently, and the Federal Reserve's announcement last week that they will begin unwinding their bond buying initiative, I feel the market will be entering an extended bear period.

The saying goes, "don't fight the fed". Meaning that if the Federal Reserve is easing money supply, as it has been over the last few years, then you buy stocks. Conversely, if the Federal Reserve is tightening money supply, which it is going to start doing her soon, you sell stocks.

Last week I moved money from stocks and bonds to a money market in our 401K. That already saved us money based on today's market action.

401K's aside, you can still make good money in a bear market. There will be certain stocks in certain sectors that still do well, and you can always go short.

I think I should stay away from SURG at this point. I am 0 for 2 with it (even though I made $30 the first time, I don't consider that a very successful trade).
